Windows 10’s freshly released cumulative update for November is being problematic in terms of failing to install for some users, and there are a couple of other bugs besides – although fortunately minor ones. Update KB4586781, for Windows 10 machines running the May 2020 Update or October 2020 Update, is failing to install for some people with a mysterious error message – something that we have seen with previous cumulative updates for Microsoft’s OS. As Windows Latest spotted, the installation failure is accompanied by an error message which reads something like: “Some update files are missing or have problems. We’ll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x8007000d).” That error code may vary – again as we’ve seen in the past – and some users are finding that the patch takes a long time, leaving them sitting there wondering what their PC is doing, before getting the failure message. Another user reported in Microsoft’s feedback hub: “The update downloads and installation goes to 100%. After reaching 100%, the update fails with [error] 0X80070308.” On Microsoft’s Answers.com help forum, other users are reporting issues. One post read: “‘KB4586781 Failed to install on 11/12/2020 - 0x8007000d.’ I have tried several times to load KB4586781 using the ‘check for updates’ and also the download of the msu file. I also tried the version of the Nov update that would take me to 20H2. Neither will load and install without giving me that error message.” Another disgruntled Windows 10 user chimed in: “This update has frozen my laptop for 2 days, and I’ve had to pause updates. It is just going through the same cycle as described downloads, installs to 100% freezes everything and after a hard boot is marked as failed. MS you need to get this fixed.” Pointer problem As well as the installation failure, there are a couple of slight bugs which have been reported, including the mouse pointer apparently blinking on and off after applying the KB4586781 update, and Microsoft Edge taking longer to fire up. Only a very small minority are affected by these minor issues, though, according to Windows Latest – but sadly the installation bug seems to be more prevalent. If you are one of those hit by the installation failure problem, there’s no known solution or workaround, and your best bet may simply be to pause the update for now, and hope a resolution is forthcoming. KB4586781 applies some important security fixes to Windows 10, and to Microsoft Office products.

XIII released on November 10 and received nearly unanimously poor reception, and the development team understands why. Publisher Microids and developer Playmagic released their remake of cult-hit shooter XIII last week, and the response has been largely negative. In the wake of this backlash, the two companies have released a statement pledging to improve the game--and admit that it isn't where they wanted it to be, either. In a post on the Microids website, the team said it heard criticism "loud and clear" and apologized for the game's technical issues. Now Playing: XIII - Remake Teaser Trailer "In its present state, XIII does not meet our quality standards and we fully understand players' frustrations. The pandemic has impacted the game's production on many levels," the post said. "Pivoting to home working for the teams has added unexpected delays in the development schedule and the QA process. We hoped we would be able to provide a day one patch fixing all the issues but the development of this update is taking more time than expected." Several patches are expected to arrive in the near future, and the first one is fixing issues such as frame rate problems, collisions, rendering, and sound, while there will be additional free content updates to add things like new weapons and levels later down the line. Aside from the technical issues, however, one of the main criticisms of XIII so far is its art style. Rather than the cel-shaded comic book style of the original game--which was itself based on a comic--the remake looks more detailed and realistic. It didn't completely drop the original's art, but it's arguably less memorable. Steam reviews of the game are almost universally negative thus far. XIII is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch version arriving in 2021.

China is Buick's largest market since 1998. Ever since Buick was introduced in China in 1998, the People's Republic has become the American marque's largest market. In fact, 10 million Buick vehicles have been sold since the mentioned year – a relative sales success for the SAIC-GM collaboration. To further strengthen its lineup in the country, the company is set to introduce a refreshed version of the Buick GL6 – a midsize minivan that's exclusively produced for the Chinese market and offered since 2018. Gallery: 2021 Buick GL6 Mild Hybrid For China Updated for the 2021 model year, the GL6 will get a mild-hybrid powertrain and a number of new appointments in the cabin. The mild-hybrid system consists of an independent 48V electric motor, a 48V battery, a battery management module, and a hybrid control unit. These will allow a number of electrified features such as energy regeneration, start-stop system, electric power assist, and intelligent charging. More importantly, the electric powertrain works in conjunction with a 1.3L dual-jet turbocharged engine for improved fuel consumption. Buick touts an improvement of 7.6 percent in fuel economy from the outgoing model. The 2021 Buick GL6 will also have a standard 10.25-inch LED instrument cluster display that's integrated with the center media touchscreen infotainment system with a flat UI design. The latter also comes with the latest Buick eConnect 3.0 connectivity system, which, for the first time, will feature mini-programs for added functionality. With the introduction of the 2021 GL6, Buick's presence in the Chinese luxury car market is projected to continuously grow. The American brand has a massive lineup in China – from sedans to crossovers, even offering hybrid and pure electric vehicles. This is quite in contrast with Buick's lineup in the U.S., which is limited to crossovers. The 2021 Buick GL6 will officially go on sale on November 19, 2020.

In 2021, Diwali will be celebrated on November 4, which is a Thursday Diwali 2021: A joyous festival which almost everyone in India looks forward to, Diwali usually falls on the 15th day of the Hindu luni-solar month of Kartik. This year, it was celebrated on November 14. The festival of lights is often associated with happiness, wealth, prosperity and warmth. It is said that on this day Lord Rama — a Lord Vishnu incarnate — had returned home to Ayodhya from his exile of 14 years after defeating King Ravana of Lanka. In his kingdom, people lit diyas to welcome him. Today, people traditionally light diyas to mark his homecoming. While some others celebrate it remembering the Pandavas who had returned home after 12 years of exile, following a humiliating loss to the Kauravas in the game of dice. It is also believed that Goddess Lakshmi was born on this day from the churning of the ocean, or the Samudra Manthan. Later, the Goddess had chosen Lord Vishnu as her husband and married him. In 2021, Diwali will be celebrated on November 4, which is a Thursday. According to Drik Panchang, the most auspicious time to conduct the Diwali puja is after sunset, because the time post-sunset is known as ‘pradosh’. “The day of Diwali puja is decided when Amavasya tithi prevails during pradosh. Hence, no other Diwali puja muhurat is as good as puja muhurat during pradosh, even if it is available for one ghati (approximately 24 minutes),” mentions the website.

The impact of a new Covid vaccine will kick in significantly over summer and life should be back to normal by next winter, one of its creators has said. Prof Ugur Sahin, co-founder of BioNTech, said this winter would still be hard as the vaccine would not have a big impact on infection numbers. Last week, BioNTech and co-developers Pfizer said preliminary analysis showed their vaccine could prevent more than 90% of people from getting Covid-19. About 43,000 people took part in tests. In an interview on BBC's Andrew Marr Show, Prof Sahin said he was confident the vaccine would reduce transmission between people as well as stop symptoms developing in someone who has had the vaccine. It was possible, he said, the vaccine could halve transmission which would have a big impact. "I'm very confident that transmission between people will be reduced by such a highly effective vaccine - maybe not 90% but maybe 50% - but we should not forget that even that could result in a dramatic reduction of the pandemic spread," he added. The UK is expected to get 10 million doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine by the end of the year, with a further 30 million doses already ordered. The jab, which was trialled in six countries, is given in two doses, three weeks apart. Older residents and staff in care homes are likely to be prioritised, followed by health workers and the over-80s. People would then be ranked by age. After the announcement of the world's first effective vaccine came on Monday, Sir John Bell, regius professor of medicine at Oxford University, suggested life could be back to normal by spring. "I am probably the first guy to say that, but I will say that with some confidence," he said. However, Prof Sahin said it would take longer. If everything continued to go well, he said, the vaccine would begin to be delivered at the "end of this year, beginning of next year". The goal was to deliver more than 300 million doses worldwide by next April, he said, which "could allow us to only start to make an impact". He said the bigger impact would happen later, adding: "Summer will help us because the infection rate will go down in the summer and what is absolutely essential is that we get a high vaccination rate until or before autumn/winter next year." Prof Sahin said it was essential that all immunisation programmes were completed before next autumn. Hope not hype The vaccine has given a boost of confidence that an end to the pandemic is close, with the leading scientist behind it hopeful life could return to normal by next winter. But there are some big uncertainties. The vaccine needs approval from regulators - and they will only grant that if they're happy the jab is safe and works well. Early results look very good, but we await the full ones in the coming weeks. There is also no data yet to show how well the jab works in those who need it the most - the elderly. Nor do we know if it stops people spreading the disease, as well as getting sick. And it's not clear how long immunity might last. People might need yearly boosters. If the vaccine is rolled out, it will take time to immunise and protect enough people. Other Covid-19 vaccines may come along that work just as well or even better than this new vaccine. But it is possible that by the summer, mass immunisation will be well under way and we could start to reap the benefits. Asked if the vaccine was as effective in older people as it is in younger people, he said he expected to have a better idea in the next three weeks. He said it was not yet known how long immunity would last after the second dose of the vaccine is given. However, he said, a booster immunisation "should not be too complicated" if it was found immunity was reduced significantly after one year. Prof Sahin also said the "key side effects" of the vaccine seen so far were a mild to moderate pain in the injection site for a few days, while some participants had a mild to moderate fever over a similar period. "We did not see any other serious side effects which would result in pausing or halting of the study," he added. His vaccine is one of 11 that are currently in the final stages of testing. It will not be released for use in the UK until it passes final safety tests and gets the go-ahead from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The agency's head has said it would not lower its safety standards despite the need to get a vaccine quickly. If it was approved, the NHS would be ready to roll out the vaccine from December, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, meanwhile, has urged people not to slacken their resolve in the meantime, saying the vaccine's development "cleared one significant hurdle but there are several more to go". Meanwhile, concerns have been raised that mutated forms of the virus might hamper the effectiveness of future vaccines. It comes after 12 people were found with a mink-related strain of the virus after an outbreak in Denmark. Virology professor Wendy Barclay, a scientific adviser for the government, said there was a "worry" that the vaccines currently under development "won't work quite so well as the virus continues to evolve". This did not mean vaccines would not work at all, she added, but adaptable and fast-responding jabs could be the best option. Earlier, Labour accused the government of not doing enough to "stamp out dangerous" anti-vaccine content online and wants emergency laws brought in. It is calling for financial and criminal penalties for social media firms that do not remove false scare stories about vaccines. Shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth said such content was "exploiting people's fears, their mistrust of institutions and governments and spreading poison and harm". His party wanted to work with the government on a cross-party basis to build trust and help promote take-up of the vaccine, he said. The government said it took the issue "extremely seriously" with "a major commitment" from Facebook, Twitter and Google to tackle anti-vaccine content. Many social media platforms label false content as misleading or disputed - and all remove posts that contravene terms of service.
