  1. Panasonic Connect Europe has announced its new software-based Media Production Suite to consolidate PC software for Panasonic's professional camera systems into one convenient platform. It provides access to multiple functions on a single GUI screen for highly intuitive and efficient on-site video production. The Media Production Suite, available free of charge, also offers various paid plug-ins that will continue to be expanded in the future. With the use of video increasing in the academic and corporate world, the new Media Production Suite streamlines camera setup and provides a wide range of features to enable high-quality video production with small teams. An intuitive touch-based GUI screen makes operation easy, enabling high-quality video production by non-specialist personnel. The fundamental functions of Device View and PTZ Control are included in the Media Production Suite free of charge. Additional paid for plug-ins include Video Mixer, Visual Preset and Auto Tracking. The Device View feature centralises the management of multiple PTZ cameras from a single PC, including camera network settings, status checks and power. It automatically detects all connected cameras to simultaneously implement network settings and firmware upgrades from a PC for efficient network-wide video management. With PTZ Control users can adjust camera pan, tilt and zoom as well as focus, iris, gain, white balance, shutter and ND filter while viewing video output from a PC. It accepts up to 100 presets for smart operation. A wide range of paid plug-ins can also be added to the platform to meet specific needs, such as auto-tracking for accurate tracking using facial recognition and body detection to follow unexpected movements for fluid automated video capture. The soon to be added Video Mixer plug-in will leverage AI technology with the AI Keying function to eliminate the need for a green background when composing backgrounds, even when shooting outdoors. It supports P-in-P processing, automatic video switching linked to microphone, plus SDI, NDI®* and SRT input/output. Lastly, Visual Presets allows users to simply click an icon to point multiple PTZ cameras at a subject for multi-angle productions. It’s also possible to link a PTZ camera and a Panasonic wireless microphone to automate video capture of speakers, for example at hybrid conferences. The Media Production Suite is available immediately and is being demonstrated at the Panasonic stand in the Corporate Production Studio at ISE 2024 in Barcelona. https://www.4rfv.co.uk/industrynews/304535/new_software_based_media_production_suite_unveiled
  2. Far from it being the damp squib that some thought it was going to be, this year's NAMM show is shaping up to be one of the best ever. Well, for the hardware synth fan, anyway. As the show gets under way, we've already been blown away by the quality and quantity of new synth announcements, so here's why NAMM 2024 might well go down in hardware synth history. In all honesty, we weren't expecting great things from NAMM 2024. After a few years of, how shall we say, 'quieter' events, there was no reason to suspect that this year's show would be any different, especially with some major players like Fender and Roland not attending. However, NAMM 2024 is not only surprising us by being the busiest since 2020 in terms of releases, but also the show where the hardware synthesizer is ruling. From a deluge of Korg releases to incredible-sounding announcements from new or nearly new companies, we've had everything.Korg has announced a raft of synth releases for this year's NAMM, many of them updates of existing models, but all of them big news in the synth world, so let's dive into the complete range now. Perhaps the biggest news is MicroKorg 2, an update of one of, if not the biggest selling synths in history. There have been major tweaks to and limited edition releases of the original over the years, but MicroKorg 2 boasts some big additions including a large 2.8-inch colour screen and five assignable rotaries that work in tandem with it. Chief among MicroKorg 2's other features is a new vocal processor that adds a harmoniser and hard 'Autotune' style tuning to go alongside the more traditional vocoder effects. MicroKorg 2 also adds a new arpeggiator and loop recorder to make putting tunes together on the fly much easier. On top of three banks of new effects, a redesigned metal casing and new 'more playable' keyboard, this is a big update. The price is expected to be around $699 with the new synth shipping in June. And in fine MicroKorg tradition, on top of the standard grey model, there will be black and white limited editions, too. Next up is Korg's KingKorg Neo, a more compact version of Korg's KingKorg VA synth. It uses the same XMT (eXpanded Modeling Technology) sound synthesis engine to generate its analogue-style sounds, and has plenty of hands-on controls over them, albeit in a much smaller and cooler compact form. https://www.musicradar.com/news/is-this-years-NAMM-already-the-best-ever-show-for-new-synths
  3. On an average day about a dozen new games are released on Steam. And while we think that's a good thing, it can be understandably hard to keep up with. Potentially exciting gems are sure to be lost in the deluge of new things to play unless you sort through every single game that is released on Steam. So that’s exactly what we’ve done. If nothing catches your fancy this week, we've gathered the best PC games you can play right now and a running list of the 2024 games that are launching this year.Release:‌ January 24 Developer:‌ Hilltop Studios Lil' Guardsman is basically a whimsical take on Papers, Please: protagonist Lil is a kid covering for her dad as a guard of the Sprawl kingdom, and it's up to her to decide who is allowed to come in and who isn't. Leaving aside the madness of allowing a kid to make decisions of resounding diplomatic consequence, it's a pretty cool idea. Decisions make a big difference not only to the kingdom Lil is helping to guard but also to the characters seeking entry, with interrogation puzzles helping your verdicts. The art style is lovely too. This package collects three Ace Attorney games from the Nintendo DS era: Apollo Justice, Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice. For those unfamiliar with the series, these games are basically visual novel legal dramas, and can be at least partially credited for the recent rise in po[CENSORED]rity of the visual novel outside Japan. Apollo Justice collects a total of 16 episodes—basically different cases—and also a wealth of bonus material like an art library and an animation studio. It's nice to see this collected for PC, but Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy might be a better place to start. https://www.pcgamer.com/five-new-steam-games-you-probably-missed-january-29-2024/
  4. According to Egypt's 2014 constitution, parliament – the House of Representatives – must reconvene before the first Thursday of the month of October every year. This means that parliament will be out of session for nearly three months. In a statement on Tuesday, the parliament's Speaker, Hanafi Gebaly, praised the House's performance before it went into summer recess. Gebaly said the House played a key role in "formulating and crystallizing a comprehensive strategy for this stage of economic reform, reviewing pressing social issues and everyday concerns of ordinary citizens and reinforcing positive coordination with the government." Gebaly said the House had debated and passed as many as 188 laws in the outgoing 2022/23 session, the third in its five-year term. Most of these dealt with economic, financial and budgetary matters. "We passed laws establishing the Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property Rights, the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Commerce, the Supreme Council for Vehicle Manufacturing, setting up a Fund for Financing the Electric Vehicle (EV) Assembly Industry, and an Authority for Regulating Domestic, International Land Transport and Freight," said Gebaly. "The House has also passed laws introducing an initiative for Egyptian expats to import tax-free cars; legislative amendments to compensate contractors negatively affected by economic liberalization policies; laws that crack down on illegal construction on agricultural land, laws that legalize unlicensed industrial projects, and that give preferential tax treatment to contractors involved in building El-Dabaa nuclear power plant," added the Speaker. In budgetary terms, the House passed a package of wage and pension hikes for state employees in FY 2023/2024, and approved the FY 2023/2024 state budget and socioeconomic development plan. Before it adjourns for summer recess on Tuesday, the House also gave final approval to seven draft laws and four foreign agreements. Topping the list are laws that eliminated tax exemptions for state-owned entities in a bid to level the playing field with the private sector, and an amendment to 2017's Investment Law to support private-sector participation and promote fairness, competition and transparency in the economy. Also passed during the final session were laws setting up two new shipping terminals at the East Port Said port, worth $565 million. The laws allow the Suez Canal Economic Zone to offer 30-year contracts to foreign companies to design, construct, manage, and operate the two new multi-purpose terminals. Speaker Gebaly also believes that the House was successful in its role as an objective, unbiased watchdog over the government. According to Gebaly, MPs submitted as many as 204 questions, an unprecedented 1,317 briefing requests for information from government ministers, and 19 urgent statements. "The House's 25 committees were also involved in seriously discussing legislation, and prepared as many as 1250 reports covering all aspects of life in Egypt," said Gebaly. https://english.ahram.org.eg/News/504719.aspx

El-Sisi confirmed on Monday that he will seek a third term in office in elections due to be held in December, with his election team promising to outline a consensus vision involving all political parties “as a continuation of the democratic process.” “Just as I responded to the call of the Egyptians before, today I respond to their call again,” he said in the closing speech for a three-day event that promoted policies under his rule at a new capital being built outside Cairo. “We are on the cusp of our new republic, which seeks to complete the process of the state’s survival and rebuild it on the foundations of modernity and democracy.” El-Sisi’s campaign managers said that a consensus vision will be prepared for the next stage, entitled “We will complete the dream.” The vision will involve all supporting parties and experts in various fields, they said. El-Sisi hopes that Egyptians will set a good example and “show the world the size of their participation in the presidential elections,” a statement from his campaign office said. Details and procedures would be announced shortly, it added. Earlier, the Egyptian leader reiterated that he would continue to work “for the benefit of the nation.” He said: “I promise you that this term will be an extension of our joint efforts for the sake of Egypt and its people.” Mahmoud Fawzi, secretary-general of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, has been chosen by El-Sisi to lead his election campaign. As of Thursday, the National Elections Authority will begin receiving applications for the 2024 presidential elections for a period of 10 days at the authority’s headquarters in central Cairo. The Homat Watan, or Protectors of the Nation party, said that El-Sisi’s candidacy “is a message of reassurance to complete the development and construction process that began in the country since he assumed power.” The pro-government Mostaqbal Watan, or Nation’s Future party, renewed its pledge to support El-Sisi. In August, several other parties extended support to El-Sisi’s candidacy. https://www.arabnews.com/node/2385331/middle-east
