It will be a feature exclusive to 2022 Max-Q laptops and Enterprise GPUs for now As shared in a recent Nvidia document for Linux, Nvidia has quietly unlocked a new feature in its enterprise and consumer GPUs that's been in hiding since the Turing generation. Known as the GSP or GPU System Processor, this piece of silicon offloads driver duties from the CPU onto the GPU to improve performance and efficiency. It was officially unlocked for use in the latest Nvidia drivers. The feature is available now if you have a qualifying enterprise Nvidia GPU and Nvidia driver 510.39.01 or later. GPU support ranges from the Turing-based Tesla T4, all the way to the Nvidia A series, such as the A100, A2, and A40. GSP is an actual piece of silicon on the GPU (like the NVENC controller) that acts as a co-processor for the paired Nvidia GPU. Its function is to offload GPU initialization and management tasks from the CPU directly onto the GPU, in an effort to reduce overall system latency and improve system performance. Nvidia says that the functionality of GSP is limited at this point, but will continue to expand in future driver releases. So expect Nvidia to rely more and more on this co-processor to reduce CPU load. We could potentially see some decent performance gains in both gaming and heavy GPU-centric applications where the CPU plays a critical role in supplying the GPU with information. This is especially true now that modern games are taking more advantage of the CPU than ever before, thanks to the maturity of lower-level APIs. Despite Nvidia saying it has locked down the feature to Enterprise solutions (for now), Nvidia also announced the feature as a critical component for Max-Q laptops coming in 2022 and beyond. In a new YouTube video released today, Nvidia explains how its latest version of Max-Q will maximize efficiency between the CPU and GPU. One of those features includes GSP -- but in this instance, Nvidia calls it a "command processor" instead of a GPU System Processor. We believe the GSP and "command processor" are the same thing since they function in the same way by offloading low-level tasks from the CPU to the GPU in an effort to improve performance. In the case of Max-Q, Nvidia gives the example of command validation, which performs pointer verification and balance checking, and how this workload will be transitioned from the CPU to the GPU for better performance. We still don't know a lot about GSP, like its actual performance benefits or its full functionality. However, we expect we'll know more soon as Nvidia continues to develop this feature in 2022. A RX 6000 refresh might be in the cards An AMD Radeon RX 6000 series refresh may be on the way, a little over a year since the original RDNA 2 graphics cards came out in late 2020. A leak from user Wjm47196 on the Chiphell forums suggests that AMD is planning to release new graphics cards based on Navi 21 and Navi 22 GPUs – the same GPUs that power Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards like the RX 6800 XT – and will allegedly replace the current models. Most likely, this refresh is in response to Nvidia’s own RTX 3080 Ti or to the upcoming RTX 3090 Ti. The former has a higher memory bandwidth due to the faster 384-bit memory bus, netting you 912GB/s of memory bandwidth. The latter, if the rumors strike true, would be the first card for the consumer market with 21Gbps memory. The new cards might launch in the second quarter but nothing substantial has been confirmed at this time. But because AMD hasn’t announced anything, we’d take this refresh with a grain of salt. Analysis: AMD needs a refresh While the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is going to be overkill the second it hits the market, AMD already can’t really compete with the RTX 3090. Its most high-end card, the Radeon RX 6900 XT, falls short in most titles, especially when you add ray tracing to the equation. Because RDNA 3 graphics cards weren’t mentioned at AMD’s CES 2022 keynote, it’s likely that they’re quite a ways out, and with rumors about Nvidia Lovelace GPUs ramping up, AMD will probably need something to compete on the high-end. And an AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT or RX 6850 XT might be the stopgap Team Red needs. "TechRadar"

There’s a reason that Plants Vs Zombies 2 has the subtitle “It’s About Time.” It’s become a global phenomenon, encompassing multiple platforms, books, figurines, plushies and more. That all of this has comes from a single game is remarkable, especially since it’s not especially long, nor does it have some great RPG-like depth to it. It’s just simple good fun. And that’s the first thing you’ll say about its sequel, Plants Vs Zombies 2. It’s a lot of good fun. Plant Power Crazy Dave has had the best taco ever. He wants another, but not just any old taco – he wants exactly the same taco he just had. Naturally the best bet is for him to travel back in time so that he can eat it again. Except the calculations are slightly off and he and his time machine, as well as his neighbour (you), end up in ancient Egypt. This is just part one in your quest to get back to the future (sorry) and back to that fantastic taco. Dealing with quantum thingamies is never a simple affair, but things are made worse because there are zombies EVERYWHERE. That’s not something that ever makes it into the history books. Luckily, you have your trust seeds with you, and you’ll be able to fight your way through the zombies and make it back to 2009. Spring Again Plants Vs Zombies 2 isn’t really all that different from the original Plants Vs Zombies. Five lanes, a variety of different plants (including a couple of newbies), zombies attack, the plants break them apart as they lumber towards you. The absolute core gameplay hasn’t even really been built upon and those that love Plants Vs Zombies will be right at home. It’s not all the same stuff in a different garden though. New varieties of zombies force you to think in different ways, while plant food turns your plants into super powered versions of themselves for just a few seconds. Plant food can be picked up after defeating glowing enemies and is actually in pretty constant supply for a feature that can be bought with in-game currency. here are some touch-specific powers as well, allowing you to pinch, flick or electrocute enemy zombies (for when things get a little too tough). These are a little hit and miss, especially in the case of the pinch which doesn’t always connect the way it should. That’s pretty much the only touch control problem I’ve come across. There are times where it’s far too easy to plant something in the wrong place with an errant touch or tap, but that’s something that stops happening as much as you play more and get used to the sensitivity. The whole of Plants Vs Zombies 2 is something that feels very casual, very easy, but is actually very tight. From the simplest of things to the most complicated of levels, the developers have been very strict with the quality and it shows. Considering just how long you’ll be playing, this can only be a good thing. The Quest for the Really Nice Taco Your adventure will take you across multiple time periods, each with their own specific design and zombies. Although there are zombies that share traits – the bucket zombie or just the basic generic walker – they always look completely different. The art design is actually very good throughout, perhaps a little bit better than the original Plants Vs Zombies (especially in terms of animation) but with much, much more variety. This is most obvious as you more from time frame to time frame. To do that you’ll need to get through a lot of levels. You’ll unlock a map fairly early in the game, and from this map you select levels. There are a lot of them, including bonus levels, in which there’s some fun little twist on the basic mechanics. For a free-to-play mobile game, the amount of content on offer is ridiculous. And it truly is free-to-play. You’ll get coins as you kill zombies, and for completing levels without the zombies getting past your plant brigade, and these can be used to buy plant food and power ups. Plant food really is so common that you wouldn’t dream of buying it, and the power ups are definitely optional. By the time you get to a point where you need to use them, you’ll have enough coins saved up that they might as well be free. There are plants that you can buy or unlock early, but they’re optional to the experience and I see them more as DLC, as a thank you to the developers, than as key content behind a pay wall. It’s nice to play an iOS game where the IAPs really are a bonus, rather than a necessity. All of this is tied together with a pretty amazing score. A lot of what you’ll hear is either directly from the first game or a slightly remixed version of something from the first game, but the new stuff stands alongside it nicely and you won’t want to turn it off. Actually, that’s probably a fair statement for the game as a whole. "GamesReviews"

Major quality of life improvements will be made with the Witch Queen, but orbs of light are going to be harder to generate. As an avid reader of the This Week at Bungie blog, I have long since made my peace with the way Destiny 2 balance changes tend to be a mixture of 'giveth' and 'confusingly taketh away'. Today's entry, which focuses on changes to how masterwork armor and weapons function, is a perfect example of the form. On the one hand we're getting some much-requested quality of life stuff. On the other it's going to become more fiddly to generate Orbs of Light. Below I'll break down each of the major changes, which go live with the arrival of The Witch Queen on 22 February (and start of Season 16). I'll also give some analysis on what I expect the impact to be. Let's begin with the good stuff: You'll be able to unlock all mods in the seasonal artifact The mods in the seasonal artifact play a massive part in determining the weapon meta and play style for several months, so being arbitrarily locked out of over half of them always felt like a strange throttle on creativity and build crafting. From Season 16 onwards, provided you grind out enough XP, you'll be able to try all 25 out. "For each unlock after the 12th, increased XP will be required for the next Artifact mod unlock, so the choice of which order to unlock mods still requires some decision-making," explained Bungie. "And if you change your mind? You can still reset your Artifact and make your picks again." This has felt needed for a while, and I even asked game director Joe Blackburn about exactly this change in our interview last September. Autos will no longer suck ass at stunning Overloads According to the post, next season's Champion-stunning mods will include anti-barrier scout and bow, Unstoppable glaive (the new weapon type being added with the Witch Queen), and Overload auto rifle and SMG. Thankfully, Bungie said it has done some work to make the latter two more reliable. Previously using automatic weapons on Overload champions involved shooting them until you reached the middle of the mag at which point they would theoretically stun. In practice, the result was notoriously reliable, especially when compared to bows or hand cannons with explosive perks. The return of anti-barrier scout means you really should make sure you get a Dead Man's Tale with Vorpal Weapon before the Presage mission gets sunset. It's going to be an absolute beast. Presumably it'll be the glaive's ranged attack that stuns Unstoppable champions, as I don't want to get in poking distance. The cost of switching elements on gear is being slashed Currently it costs an exorbitant amount of upgrade materials to swap the elemental affinity (ie Void, Arc, Solar or Stasis) on a piece of armor. As a result, players end up hoarding vast wardrobes or armor in their vaults to accommodate loadouts which require mods that can only be slotted into a corresponding elemental piece. To alleviate that pressure, Bungie is cutting the cost wildly: "A fully Masterworked piece of Legendary armor can be changed to another energy type for the cost of 10,000 Glimmer and one Upgrade Module, while a fully Masterworked piece of Exotic armor can be changed to another energy type for the cost of 20,000 Glimmer and one Upgrade Module." The only bummer is that it costs anything at all, as this prevents third-party tools such as Destiny Item Manager from using the API to handle the switch as part of its (excellent) loadout system. Hopefully we'll get there eventually, but in the meantime I'm not going to stop begging for vault space. Generating Orbs won't be tied to masterwork weapons The final change is the most surprising one, and I can only read it as a backdoor nerf to our overall power. Right now it's very easy to generate Orbs of Light by getting multikills with masterworked weapons. Orbs matter because they juice up your super meter and proc various effects via the Charged with Light mod system. Clearly Bungie feels it's a bit too easy, because that's no longer going to be a thing. Instead, in order for multi-kills to generate orbs, you'll need to slot a new helmet mod that will generate orbs on multikills—but only from weapons of a corresponding element. So in order to maximise the effect, you'd want to run, for example, a solar helmet mod with a matching solar energy and power weapon. These new mods will be free to all players, and it sounds like there will be a kinetic version also, as Bungie specifically mentions being able to generate orbs from Thorn. Indeed, one of the obvious benefits of this change is that exotic weapons like Thorn, which can't currently be masterworked with an exotic catalyst, will now be able to generate orbs. This is the one change that feels pretty fiddly to me. Our armor mod slots are already way overcrowded, and in PvE given that you tend to want to run an ammo finder at all times, it's going to make it very hard to justify using stuff like targeting mods over these new orb generation ones. Interestingly Bungie mentions that part of the motivation for this change is that the new weapon crafting system will require players to generate orbs as part of the process of building your god roll gun. I expect we'll hear more about that in the coming weeks. There is another potential silver lining: At present, the orb generation functionality takes up some of the 'perk budget' on weapons. Advertisement Perhaps the freed up space could be used for additional perks. Or, in other words: Outlaw, Headstone and Firefly on the same gun is definitely happening. "PC Gamer"
