A new coronavirus vaccine has been shown to be 89% effective in large-scale UK trials. The Novavax jab is the first to show in trials that it is effective against the new virus variant found in the UK, the BBC's medical editor Fergus Walsh said. The UK has secured 60 million doses of the jab, which will be made in Stockton-on-Tees in north-east England. Meanwhile, a single-dose vaccine developed by Janssen is 66% effective, trial results have shown. Janssen, a company owned by Johnson & Johnson, is also investigating whether giving two doses will give either stronger or longer-lasting protection. The company said its initial findings showed one dose prevented 85% of severe cases. Both the Novavax and Janssen jabs will need to be reviewed by regulators before they can be used. EU chief wants AstraZeneca jab contract published When will I get a Covid vaccine? Coronavirus: A year of high-speed discovery The PM welcomed the "good news", with doses of the Novavax jab expected to be delivered in the second half of this year if approved for use by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the government said. The UK has so far approved three coronavirus vaccines for emergency use - one from Oxford University and AstraZeneca, another by Pfizer and BioNTech, and a third from drug firm Moderna. The Novavax jab, which is given in two doses, was shown to be 89.3% effective at preventing Covid-19 in participants in its Phase 3 clinical trial in the UK, and around 86% effective at protecting against the new UK variant. The jab's efficacy against the original Covid-19 strain was calculated to be 95.6%. The Phase 3 trials - the final stage before a vaccine is looked at by a regulator - enrolled more than 15,000 people aged between 18-84, of whom 27% were older than 65, US firm Novavax said. In the South African part of the trial, where most of the cases were the South African variant of the virus, the vaccine was 60% effective among those without HIV. Stan Erck, chief executive of Novavax, said the results from the UK trial were "spectacular" and "as good as we could have hoped", while the efficacy in South Africa was "above people's expectations". He told the BBC the manufacturing plant in Stockton-on-Tees should be up and running by March or April, with the company hoping to get approval for the vaccine from the MHRA around the same time. media captionNovavax chief executive: UK trial results are "spectacular" Minister Lucy Frazer told BBC Breakfast the government could not put an exact timeframe on when the Novavax jab might be approved as the regulation process is "out of our control". Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the new vaccine would be "another weapon in our arsenal to beat this awful virus", if approved. Prof Paul Heath, chief investigator of the UK Novavax trial, said the trial findings were "enormously exciting", particularly because of the jab's efficacy against the UK variant. 2px presentational grey line Analysis box by Michelle Roberts, health editor These extremely encouraging trial results suggest another powerful vaccine against coronavirus could soon be within reach. It works in a slightly different way to the ones that are already available - but does the same job of teaching the body's immune system to recognise and fight the pandemic virus. What is more, it appears to be effective against emerging and more infectious variants of coronavirus too - something scientists have feared might not be possible because the vaccines were all designed to match the original virus, not these new, mutated versions. Protection against illness from the new UK variant was high - around 86%. Even with the South Africa variant, which has undergone the most worrisome changes, it offered a level of protection similar to that given by flu shots against influenza.

If you're reading this and the Yakuza franchise has always piqued your interest but you've never given it a proper chance, you've got roughly 10 hours to take advantage of an outstanding set of deals. Through until midnight tonight, every single mainline entry in the series has been so heavily discounted that a single 30+ hour adventure with Kazuma Kiryu could replace the McDonalds meal you pick up after work tonight. That excludes latest entry Yakuza: Like a Dragon, but given how many hours of playtime you'd be buying here, that title will most certainly go on sale again before you're done with the previous seven games. So, what are we actually looking at here? You'll want to start with Yakuza 0, the perfect entry point to the franchise. That has just been cut in price to only £3.99/$4.99, which is the cheapest price the game has ever sold for on the PlayStation Store. Next up is Yakuza: Kiwami, a full remake of the PlayStation 2 original. That's just £4.79/$5.99, but then you may already own a digital copy via PS Plus. Then there's Yakuza: Kiwami 2 at £9.59/$12.99 — another great mainline entry. But here's where you get the real bang for your buck, the Yakuza Remastered Collection is now on sale for £24.99/$29.99. That contains Yakuza 3 Remastered, Yakuza 4 Remastered, and Yakuza 5 Remastered. You can then top your spending off with Yakuza 6: The Song of Life at £9.59/$7.99. That means you can get every numbered entry bar Like a Dragon for less than £55/$62 — the equivalent of a full-priced game! The caveat here is that you need to be quick on your toes to make use of some of these deals. The PS Store January sale ends at midnight tonight, and that's what houses the discounts for Yakuza: Kiwami, Kiwami 2, and 6: The Song of Life. We have roughly 10 more hours where the two lots of deals overlap so you can take full advantage. If you've ever wanted to check the series out, now is the time to do it.

A bad lot Through a post on the company's forums, Corsair announced a recall on its HX1200 and HX1200i series of power supplies. While the issue isn't life-threatening, i.e., the power supplies won't burst into flames, Corsair still recommends that consumers contact the manufacturer for a replacement unit. The company has also put out the word for retailers to return affected units so none of them can make it to the consumer. Corsair says that some HX1200 and HX1200i units may cause compatibility issues with certain motherboards, but the company didn't go into finer details. Essentially, the power supply will prevent the system from booting. The issue may arise immediately or after installation. Corsair has emphasized that the problem will not damage your hardware, but you should still call in for a replacement unit anyway. The impacted HX1200 and HX1200i power supplies come with lot codes from 2030XXXX to 2041XXXX, which were typically commercialized after July 20, 2020. Corsair has provided a short and simple guide to decipher the lot code for your unit. Since it's an isolated problem and one that only affects a small lot, Corsair didn't issue a full recall on the HX1200 or HX1200i units. Instead, affected owners of one of the aforementioned power supplies should contact Corsair's customer service team through this form to arrange for an advanced RMA.

Mac screenshots taken in macOS are one of the easiest yet most useful tools MacBook users can have in their arsenal. Whether you're saving something for later or sending a friend something you saw while browsing the web, Mac screenshots are a great way of quickly relaying information. We've already talked about how to take a screenshot in Windows 10. Now we'll show you step-by-step how to take a screenshot on Mac in macOS. How to take a screenshot on your entire macOS desktop The easiest way to capture a full screenshot of the entire macOS desktop is by using a nifty keyboard combination. Follow the steps below to take a full-screen screenshot on your MacBook: Press and hold these three keys together: Shift + Command + 3. This will bring up a thumbnail in the corner of your screen. Click it and edit the screenshot. Wait for the screenshot to save to your desktop. How to take a partial screenshot in macOS If you don't need to capture everything on your screen, you can take a partial screenshot of a picture, block of text, or whatever it is you want to grab. With this method, you can save time by cropping as you capture instead of editing afterward. Follow the steps below to take a cropped screenshot on your MacBook: Press and hold Shift + Command + 4. A crosshair will appear. Click and drag the crosshair to select the area you would like to capture. You can move the selection by holding the space bar as you drag. Release your mouse or trackpad button to take the screenshot. To cancel the screenshot, press Esc. How to screenshot object in macOS If you want to go even more granular, you can take a screenshot of a specific object, window or menu. This way, you can get an exact snippet of what you want to save on the screen without doing it manually and the risk of cutting pieces off. Below are the steps to capturing an object, window or menu with a screenshot: Open the window or menu you want to capture. Press and hold Shift + Command + 4 + space bar. When the pointer changes to a camera icon, click the window or menu you want to capture and save. Press and hold the Option key to exclude shadows. Click the thumbnail in the corner of the screen to edit the screenshot. Note: some apps, like Apple TV app, won't let you take screenshots. How to take a manual screenshot with the macOS Screenshot app The latest editions of macOS let you take a manual screenshot with the aptly-named application, Screenshot. Added to macOS Mojave, Screenshot gives you various capture options, including full screen, a portion of the screen, or a manual click-and-drag selection. You can even record your screen from this app and choose where files save so you don't lose them later. Here is how to use the Screenshot app to capture objects in macOS: Press Shift + Command + 5 to open Screenshot. A toolbar will appear at the bottom of your display. Click on the tool you want to use. You can capture the entire screen, capture a window, capture a portion of the screen, record the entire screen or record a portion of the screen.

Preloads for Cyberpunk 2077 are now live on GOG.com, with Steam and the Epic Games Store to follow at 8 am PT/11 am ET/5pm CET today. The release date is December 10 in CD Projekt's home of Poland but, because it's a simultaneous worldwide release on PC and Stadia, some will technically get it a little early. Also, the game is nine whole pence cheaper on GOG than Steam and Epic if you're in the UK. Depending on your timezone, Cyberpunk 2077 will unlock at: 4 pm PT on December 9 / 7 pm ET on December 9 / 12 am GMT on December 10 / 8 am CST on December 10. CD Projekt has pushed Cyberpunk 2077 hard on GOG, for the blindingly simple reason that it owns store and therefore keeps 100 percent of the sale price. Regardless of what platform players purchase the game on, even linking it to GOG nets some in-game rewards. The download comes with an executable file, which got people excited that perhaps CD Projekt Red had somehow screwed-up and released the most-hyped game of recent years early. Trying to play the game this way results in the following screen, as noticed by redditor JMendo02. OK, that's pretty funny. The sense of anticipation is real, and if you want an idea of what to expect here's what we thought after 15 hours in the game. With just a few days to go, time to start preparing.

SAP today reported preliminary results for 2020, showing the German enterprise software vendor serving up flat revenue and slightly improving profits, along with a worryingly notable drop in licence sales. For the full year ending December 31, total revenue was down 1 per cent year-on-year year to €27.34bn. Within that, cloud revenue grew 17 per cent to €8.08bn, but software licences revenue was down by a fifth to €3.64bn. Support revenue was more or less unchanged at €11.5bn. Operating profit climbed 48 per cent year-on-year to €6.62bn, largely down to lower restructuring charges as well as lower share-based compensation expenses compared to 2019. In preliminary results for the fourth quarter, total revenue was down 6 per cent to €7.54: cloud revenue increased 8 per cent to €2.04bn; software licences fell 15 per cent to €1.7bn; support fell 4 per cent to €2.38. Operating profit increased 26 per cent to €2.65bn. In October, SAP produced a forecast for the year so abysmal it caused the share price to crash, wiping 23 per cent off the company's value. After filing Q3 results, SAP "adjusted" its guidance and said it would focus on migrating customers to its cloud solutions. The new preliminary profits have hit the "high end of revised outlook range", the enterprise application specialist said. The company said "business performance [had] sequentially improved in the fourth quarter even as the COVID-19 crisis persisted and lockdowns were reintroduced in many regions". One does not simply move to the cloud But the results for software licences show signs of the 48-year-old SAP's ongoing challenge in shifting business applications to the cloud. In December, SAP made it clear that moving to the cloud was anything but a simple technical migration. Any on-prem software modifications should be abandoned, with user organisations having to adopt more standardised processes. "You cannot have these modifications that you had in the on-premises world, that's not how the cloud works," Oliver Betz, SVP head of product management for SAP S/4HANA, told an UK and Ireland SAP User Group meeting at the time. For the full year 2021, SAP said it expects operating profit in the range of €7.8bn to €8.2bn, down between 1 and 6 per cent at constant currencies. Combined cloud and software revenue would be between €23.3bn and €23.8bn, flat or up 2 per cent. This is what would happen in a scenario with successful vaccination campaigns in key territories, however. "This outlook assumes the COVID-19 crisis will begin to recede as vaccine programs roll out globally, leading to a gradually improving demand environment in the second half of 2021," the company said. In a statement, CEO Christian Klein said: "SAP's expedited shift to the cloud will drive long-term, sustainable growth while significantly increasing the resiliency and predictability of our business." ®

It was like travelling back in time for many visitors at the Chennai Heritage Auto Display 2021 on Sunday, as they enjoyed a short ride on a working replica of the 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, the first automobile of the world. With a broad smile on her face, K. Smitha, one of the visitors, said that it was a cocktail of emotions that she experienced when she drove the three-wheeled car inside the AVM Rajeshwari Kalyana Mandapam car park on R.K. Salai. “It was fear and childlike happiness that overtook me. I was enthralled also when I took a ride on the Ford Quadricycle, which is said to be the first experimental automobile of Henry Ford which he built in 1896,” she said. Both these models are manufactured by Coimbatore-based UMS Technologies. G D Rajkumar, managing director, UMS Technologies Pvt Ltd., said that the 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, was made by Karl Benz and his wife Bertha Benz drove on it first with her two children. “We have exported close to 100 such replicas to vintage and classic automobile lovers across the world. The uniqueness of this car is that it runs on Benzine,” he explains. A few years ago, staff of UMS Technologies drove this model from Coimbatore to Chennai in 36 hours. “It is a hand-crafted replica. One litre of Benzine, will help the vehicle run for 20 km. The car has a five-litre tank,” explained S. Gunasekaran, manager, operations, UMS Technologies. Apart from this replica, there were over 60 vintage cars and 20 motorcycles on display at the event. \ As one enters the exhibition, a bright yellow colour Mustang welcomes the visitor. Visitors were seen clicking pictures near cars such as the Rolls Royce 20/25, Benz 8/20, Ford Anglia, Dodge Brothers, 1931. Rajan Somasundaram, who owns the Rolls Royce, said that it was a barn find from the USA. “It took close to two years to restore it,” he said. Apart from this, motorcycles such as Lambretta Lamby, Triumph Twin, My Augusta, BSA Bantam and other vehicles drew the attention of the crowd. “The club focuses on preservation, restoration and display of vintage and classic vehicles,” says M.S. Guhan, secretary of the club whose vintage vehicles were also on display at the event. Balraj Vasudevan, president of the club, said that they usually organised the Chennai to Pondy Heritage Drive on January 18 and 19. “However this year we were not able to do it. So we decided to enthral the audience with this display,” he said.

ATLANTA — When Senator-elect Reverend Raphael Warnock embarked on his Senate race, he did so as a continuation of Dr. Martin Luther King’s work. Warnock serves as senior pastor of the congregation of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where King co-pastored from 1960 until his assassination in 1968. On Friday, Warnock delivered a sermon at The Temple, Atlanta’s oldest synagogue, as it hosted the 36th annual MLK Jr. Shabbat Service commemorating the rich history of Jewish and Christian communities’ shared fight for civil rights. There, for the 12th consecutive year, Warnock took to the pulpit to deliver a sermon to both congregations. This year, he did so as the victor in a runoff election that will make Warnock the first Black senator to represent Georgia. Also victorious was Senator-elect Jon Ossoff, who grew up attending the Temple where Rev. Warnock was speaking. “The election is now over, and standing together you have the pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King stood,” said Warnock during the service, “standing alongside a young Jewish man, the son of immigrants on our way to represent this state in the Senate.” Warnock and Senator-elect Jon Ossoff’s political alliance in the runoff builds on the religious coalition of progress between the Jewish community and the Black Christian community that ran through Dr. King’s work in the Civil Rights Movement. “[King’s] work was addressing the triple evils of racism, poverty and militarism,” Rev. Warnock said. “But the full manifestation of his mission is left to us.” The mission has long brought Jewish and Black Christian communities together, and the mission has sometimes had grave consequences. In 1958, The Temple was bombed. While no arrests were ever made, it was understood as an anti-Semitic and racist attack. Rabbi Rothschild, The Temple’s leader at the time, was committed to addressing inequities and stood by Dr. King and other Black clergy members in their fight for civil rights. Now, in 2021, The Temple may have been the victim of another racist and anti-Semitic attack. During Friday’s broadcast, the synagogue’s livestream of the service was interrupted for over an hour, with viewers unable to access the service on any of the other synagogue client sites across the country. While the motives and culprits of the cyberattack are not clear, leaders at the synagogue speculate that it directly responds to the message of the service and Warnock’s presence. “One thing I know as a former U.S. attorney is not to rush to judgment but you do take the facts as you see them,” The Temple President Kent Alexander said. “And so, all I can do is speculate and it appears that somebody was trying to interfere with this service because of racism or anti-Semitism or both.” But just as Dr. King was undeterred by attacks, Warnock and the clergy of The Temple pushed through. At Sunday’s service at Ebenezer Baptist Church honoring Dr. King, Warnock shared a similar message, creating parallels between Dr. King’s work in the 1960s to the work communities continue today. Finding the commonality between King’s work in 1968 with Black sanitation workers in Memphis that led to the famous images of demonstrators holding the “I AM A MAN” signs and eventually, today’s Black Lives Matter movement. “Poor people, marginalized people, have to say the obvious and have to have movements to argue for themselves that which ought to be automatically given to them,” Warnock said. “There is equity in God’s vision,” Warnock declared, a sentiment that led his sermon through to its end. Warnock, a man intimately acquainted with the world’s inequities, aligned his Senate run with this very notion. As a Savannah native, he grew up in public housing with his 11 siblings. Both of his parents were pastors, though they struggled financially. He attended Morehouse College, one of the nation’s leading HBCUs and struggled to pay his tuition. Warnock credits these experiences for his understanding of what it truly means to be marginalized, he says. As Warnock closed Sunday’s service, he shared a striking allegory describing the power of geese flying in a V formation. In doing so, he pointed out that when the goose leading the V grows tired, it simply falls back further into the formation, giving way to a new leader who integrates itself seamlessly. “Geese understand that my individual location is not as important as our collective destination,” said Warnock, “and so that is why we have to stick together. We have to work together.” This story is part of a reporting effort by The GroundTruth Project on voting rights in America, with support from the Jesse and Betsy Fink Charitable Fund, Solutions Journalism Network and MacArthur Foundation.
