Over the years, a diamond has remained one of the most spectacular gemstones of all time. But what exactly makes the diamond so fascinating? Not only does a diamond have the ability to captivate a person’s heart in just a few seconds, but the gemstone remains remarkable for the fact that they were formed before the age of dinosaurs. Today, a diamond is still known as the ultimate symbol of love making it the ideal gift for anniversaries, birthdays and special celebrations. Here are 10 fascinating facts in a nutshell that will make you fall in love with the magical gemstone even more: A CANDLE FLAME CONTAINS MILLIONS OF SMALL DIAMONDS throughout time many poets have compared the flickering flame of a candle to the gorgeous effect of a diamond. Of course, creative writers weren’t too far from the truth. According to Wuzong Zhou, a professor of chemistry at the University of St Andrews, around 1.5 million diamond nanoparticles can be found in a candle’s flame. Therefore, proposing during a candlelight dinner has even greater meaning. SCIENTISTS CAN TURN THE REMAINS OF A LOVED ONE INTO A DIAMOND If you’re looking to have an everlasting connection with a loved one who has passed away, there’s an option to compress their ashes and turn it into a man-made diamond. This way you will be able to cherish them forever. DIAMONDS WEREN’T ALWAYS MINED Today, the majority of diamonds on the market are mined underground or undersea using heavy machinery and high-tech equipment. However, before diamonds were mined below the earth’s surface they were found by miners alongside or at the bottom of rivers. This type of mining activity is known as alluvial mining. THE EUREKA DIAMOND WAS DISCOVERED BY A 15-YEAR-OLD BOY The beautiful Eureka diamond was first discovered in South Africa by a 15-year-old boy named Erasmus Stephanus in 1867. The 21.25 carat rough diamond was found near Hopetown on the Orange River. Today, the polished diamond weighs 10.73 carats. A DIAMOND IS ONE OF THE HARDEST NATURAL SUBSTANCES ON EARTH Diamonds are considered to be one of hardest natural materials known to man; according to researchers a diamond is up to 58x harder than anything you will find in nature. Therefore, the only object or piece of equipment that would be able to cut through a diamond would be another diamond LUCY DIAMOND IN THE SKY In 2007, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics announced the discovery of a 10 billion-trillion-trillion carat diamond in the sky called, Lucy. The star was named after the Beatles song, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and is located fifty light years from Earth. NOT ALL DIAMONDS ARE WHITE IN COLOUR Did you know not all diamonds are colourless? In nature you will find a variety of natural fancy colour diamonds; the extremely rare diamonds come in different shades of red, blue, pink, yellow, brown, black, orange and green. DIAMONDS WERE ONLY AVAILABLE TO THE ELITE Diamonds weren’t always available to the general public. During the twentieth-century France laid down a law, which indicated that only the King was allowed to wear diamonds. If a peasant or non-royalty member of the community was seen wearing the fascinating gemstone they would be dealing with serious consequences. Around this time, diamonds were exceptionally rare. It was the discovery of diamonds in South Africa that changed the world diamond industry forever. THERE ARE DIAMONDS IN SPACE Scientists revealed that there are white dwarf stars in space that each contain a diamond core. But what’s even more fascinating is that the largest diamond in the universe weighs a whopping 2.27 thousand trillion tons and holds up to 10 billion carats in weight. A DIAMOND LOSES UP TO 50% OF ITS WEIGHT DURING THE CUTTING AND POLISHING PROCESS n order for a rough diamond to reach its full potential it will undergo a cutting and polishing process; during which, the diamond will lose up to 50% of its original rough carat weight on average. The trade off? A diamond cut to perfect proportion and symmetry will display the ultimate combination of fire, brilliance and scintillation. There’s no end to the fascinating world of a diamond. For more interesting facts and history on the gemstones book a guided tour at the Cape Town Diamond Museum. It’s simply a Cape Town attraction not to be missed!

It’s scheduled to be released in Japan in 2021 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A western release has not been announced and the region-locked trailers could indicate that the license situation is still murky, which isn’t unusual for this kind of anime games. Incidentally, last week we also got the reveal of the second season of the anime, which will be aired this year. A mobile game titled Kimetsu no Yaiba: Keppu Kengeki Royale is also in the works. It was supposed to come last year, but it will instead be released this year in order to further improve its quality.

A BBC investigation into the increasingly po[CENSORED]r live video chat website Omegle has found what appear to be prepubescent boys explicitly touching themselves in front of strangers. Omegle links up random people for virtual video and text chats, and claims to be moderated - but has a reputation for unpredictable and shocking content. Global child protection groups are increasingly concerned about predators using the site to gather self-generated child sexual abuse material. The founder of the website, Leif K Brooks, told the BBC his site had increased moderation efforts in recent months. According to new research collected by data analyst Semrush, Omegle grew globally from about 34 million visits a month in January 2020 to 65 million in January 2021. Collage of explicit material on Omegle image captionIn a two-hour period the BBC was connected at random with 12 masturbating men, eight naked males and seven porn adverts Interest has spiked particularly in the US, UK, India and Mexico. In the UK alone, traffic increased by 61%, with 3.7 million visits in December from predominantly people under the age of 34 - many of them teenagers. Omegle has been the subject of recent viral videos from po[CENSORED]r social media influencers including KSI, Charli D'Amelio, James Charles and Emma Chamberlain. Omegle videos on tiktok IMAGE COPYRIGHTTIKTOK image captionThere are now more than 9.4bn views of Omegle videos on TikTok alone On TikTok alone, videos tagged with "Omegle" have been viewed more than 9.4 billion times. TikTok told the BBC that, as a result of our investigation, it had now banned sharing links to Omegle. The company says its safety teams have not found any harmful Omegle content on its platform but would continue to monitor the videos. 'Men being gross' "It's a trend now on TikTok that everyone's doing Omegle, so me and my friends thought we'd go back to it," says 15-year-old Keira from the US on video chat on the site. "Men being gross is something me and my friends see a lot. It should be better monitored. It's like the dark web but for everyone." In the last six months, many schools, police forces and government agencies have issued warnings about the site in the UK, US, Norway, France, Canada and Australia. omegle website image image captionThere is no age verification process or registration required to join video chats During the approximately 10 hours that we monitored Omegle, we were paired with dozens of under-18s, and some appeared to be as young as seven or eight. Omegle's disclaimer states that users should be 18 or over, but there is no age verification process in place. During just one two-hour period, we were connected at random with 12 masturbating men, eight naked males and seven porn adverts. There is also the option to find matches based on interests, for example "football" or "movies". When we inputted one generic keyword relating to adult material, we were paired even more frequently with people engaging in explicit activity. Children engaging in sex acts We were also paired at random twice with what appeared to be young prepubescent boys masturbating live on the video chat. One of them identified himself as being 14 years old. These instances were not recorded, and we ended both chats swiftly before reporting them to the authorities. omegle site image captionChild protection charities say Omegle is being used by groomers to gather child abuse material A spokeswoman from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the US said: "The speed in which you found possible child sexual abuse material should underscore the necessity of age verification on social media platforms." Mr Brooks, the website's owner, says he has now blocked the use of the keyword, but the BBC has not been able to verify this. 'Self-generated abuse material' The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), which is responsible for finding and removing images and videos of child sexual abuse online, said the results of our investigation were troubling but followed a recent trend. "We have found self-generated abuse material elsewhere on the internet which has been created by predators who have captured and distributed footage from Omegle," said Chris Hughes, hotline director at the foundation. "Some of the videos we've seen show individuals self-penetrating on webcam, and this type of activity is going on in a household setting often where we know parents are present. There are conversations that you can hear, even children being asked to come down for tea." In 2020, the IWF said analysts actioned 68,000 reports which were tagged as including "self-generated" child sexual abuse content - a 77% increase on the previous year.

Go big or go home. Size matters. The bigger, the better. Whatever your favorite cliché, games are more fun when you play on a big screen. That’s part of the reason the PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X and console gaming in general is so po[CENSORED]r. It’s not just cost; consoles also make it easier to play on the large TV in the living room, rather than the desk-sized screen sitting in the home office. But PCs have a huge performance advantage over consoles. You’re not going to hit 144 fps on a console, and you’re definitely not going to find a DisplayPort on a console or TV. For those committed to high-performance and speed in one of the best 4K gaming monitors, the question is how much are you willing to spend on a jumbo monitor? If around $1,500 is within your budget, the Philips Momentum 558M1RY may be for you. It’s a 55-inch VA monitor specced for up to 1,000 nits brightness, HDR, AMD FreeSync and a 120 Hz refresh rate. If that’s not enough, the 558M1RY includes a high-quality soundbar from Bowers & Wilkins. Yes, that B&W. That’s a premium package at a premium price. DisplayPort connection, which, of course, is only found on PCs. A VA panel promises high native contrast, there’s an extended color gamut and an LED edge-array backlight that Philips promises is good for 750 nits brightness with SDR content and a whopping 1,200 nits with HDR, which surpasses VESA’s highest HDR certification, DisplayHDR 1000, which requires 1,000 nits. The 558M1RY certainly has the tools to produce a stunning 4K image. Gamers will enjoy the 558M1RY's seamless AMD FreeSync Premium Pro implementation. Compared to standard FreeSync and FreeSync Premium, FreeSync Premium Pro adds HDR support and low latency in HDR mode. We also got Nvidia G-Sync to run on the scree,n even though it’s not G-Sync Compatible-certified. (To learn how, see our How to Run G-Sync on a FreeSync Monitor tutorial). We verified that both kinds of Adaptive-Sync work over a 48-120 Hz range with or without HDR through DisplayPort 1.4. Assembly and Accessories on Philips Momentum 558M1RY You’ll need a friend to help you unbox the Philips Momentum 558M1RY because it arrives fully assembled with stand and soundbar already fixed in place. The package weighs around 65 pounds in total. As with a desktop monitor, you get an IEC power cord plus HDMI, DisplayPort and USB cables. A tiny remote is also included which makes menu navigation a lot easier. If you plan to wall mount, there’s a 200mm VESA pattern in back with four large bolts included in the box. Philips Momentum 558M1RY Product 360 It’s hard to appreciate the scale of the Philips Momentum 558M1RY from the photos, because it’s styled just like a standard PC monitor. The first clue that this is an extreme display is the soundbar firmly attached to the panel. These B&W speakers are covered with a burlap-like wool-blend fabric in dark gray. Meanwhile, the base and upright are very solid and stable and offer a tilt adjustment like a desktop display. The generally low-key design makes sense, considering that this will likely sit in a living or family room for all to see. There are no gaming cues in sight -- until you activate the 558M1RY’s colorful lighting effect. The 558M1RY features what Philips calls Ambiglow, a lighting feature across the sides and top of the panel’s backside. It can glow a single color with adjustable brightness or you can set it change according to what’s currently on the screen. That effect adds an interesting motion element you won’t find on any other gaming monitor. It works particularly well if you have a neutral-colored wall behind the screen. From a side view, the 558M1RY looks chunky with angles and straight lines making up the 558M1RY’s shape. In back, you can see a heat vent across the top and a tiny Philips logo. The small dots around the perimeter are the Ambiglow LEDs. On the soundbar, you can see a port on one side that extends the bass lower. Perfect for a living room, the 558M1RY even comes with a 6-inch-long wand-shaped remote that easily controls all monitor functions. You get a power toggle, plus mute, input and menu up top. After the four-way nav pad is picture mode and return. Two rockers at the bottom adjust brightness and volume. The input panel is up under the upright and fairly hard to reach. You get three HDMI 2.0 inputs and a single DisplayPort 1.4. USB is version 3.2 and includes one upstream and four downstream ports. Two of them can charge or power devices when the 558M1RY is off. OSD Features on Philips Momentum 558M1RY With 12 logically arranged submenus, the on-screen display (OSD) is exactly like the one found in all the Philips monitors we’ve reviewed. You can access it with a joystick on the back-right side of the panel or the handy remote control. First up is Ambiglow, the LED lighting effect. You can set any color to a steady state and adjust its brightness with a slider, or choose a random rotation of colors. The coolest feature is image match, where the colors change with the onscreen content. It sounds gimmicky, but in practice, it added an interesting dimension to both gameplay and video. A Game Setting menu offers aiming crosshairs, a low input lag mode, which can be left on all the time, and a three-level overdrive. The speediest overdrive settings, Fastest, works well at reducing motion blur without leaving ghosting artifacts. Most of the image controls are in the Picture menu, where you get brightness and contrast, along with sharpness and color saturation. At the top, SmartImage offers 7 different picture modes, which are task-specific. One of the modes focuses on improved screen uniformity. It delivered but reduced contrast in the process. Our sample didn’t need that feature though. The Color menu offers color temp adjustments by Kelvin value or with RGB sliders. The Philips Momentum 558M1RY measures well out of the box and doesn’t need calibration, but there are slight gains available with a few adjustments. Here also is the sRGB mode, which effectively renders that gamut with decent gamma and grayscale tracking. Color purists will be happy to have this feature available. Philips Momentum 558M1RY Calibration Settings The 558M1RY has a native DCI-P3 color gamut that it uses for all content unless you engage the sRGB mode in the Color menu. Since sRGB mode can’t be calibrated, we calibrated the 558M1RY via the User Define color temp and left SmartImage off. With slight changes to the RGB sliders and a switch in gamma from 2.2 to 2.4, we achieved excellent results. You’ll notice in the table below that we could only turn the backlight down to 105 nits minimum. That’s a bit bright for gaming in a completely dark room, but you can get some relief by turning on Ambiglow and setting it to a dim white. When an HDR signal is applied, you get five additional presets. For the brightest presentation, choose DisplayHDR 1000. For the best HDR image, choose Personal. Gaming and Hands-on with Philips Momentum 558M1RY Using a 55-inch monitor for workday tasks is a bit unusual, but if you sit around 6 feet away, it works. The Philips Momentum 558M1RY’s stand raises the screen a bit less than 5 inches from the desktop, so to put your viewpoint in the center, you’ll have to raise your chair or use a lower than typical piece of furniture. Unlike a TV, the Philips’ stand has a tilt function of 10 degrees, so there is some flexibility there. The soundbar moves with the panel so its sound is always focused on the user. With font scaling set to 300%, Windows apps were easy to use from up to 10 feet away. Small text was easily readable, so if you want to sit on the couch and browse the web, the 558M1RY can oblige. Contrast is superb with a nearly 5,000:1 contrast ratio available in SDR mode. We used the extended color gamut for most productivity apps, except Photoshop, where we switched to the sRGB mode. Movie watching is a pleasure with such a large screen. You can sit close and have a very immersive experience, both visually and sonically. The impact of good audio cannot be overstated either. In the AV world, the most commonly given -- and most commonly ignored -- advice is to spend twice as much on audio as video. This is hard to do because we all want the largest possible display. But when sound is as good as the B&W soundbar included with the 558M1RY, you’re getting a huge value-add. With two tweeters, two 10W midranges and a 20W woofer for bass, the Philips Momentum 558M1RY has some of the best built-in sound we’ve ever heard. The full frequency spectrum is represented and only the very deepest bass, below 80 Hz, is a little weak. For gaming and movies, the soundbar is a huge asset. Not only is the audio crystal clear, but also the sound stage is much wider than the bar’s physical size. Higher partials, like female voices and finely detailed ambient effects, came through in perfect balance with no trace of sibilance or harshness. Of course, the Philips Momentum 558M1RY is at heart a gaming monitor, and for that, it excels. SDR games, like Tomb Raider, look fantastic when running at 120 frames per second (fps) at 4K resolution with max detail. We paired the monitor with a system running a GeForce RTX 3090. One of the best graphics cards, it has no trouble keeping frame rates high. We also tested the monitor with a Radeon RX 5700 XT-equipped machine. In either case, we got Adaptive-Sync to run perfectly. And in general, response and input lag were low enough not to call attention to themselves. Contrast was particularly impressive in the dark areas of the game environment where blacks were true and shadow detail was rich. The depth afforded by a quality VA panel like this makes the suspension of disbelief far more palpable. Color also stood out, thanks to an accurate gamut. We played Tomb Raider in sRGB mode, where it looked great, and with the full DCI-P3 gamut engaged, where it looked even better. Though purists like us prefer to use the mastered color spec whenever possible, there’s no denying the impact of a little more saturation. Switching to HDR in Windows worked seamlessly, and thanks to the availability of the contrast slider in the HDR Personal mode, we were able to dial down the extreme brightness to make the desktop less fatiguing to look at. With the HDR title Call of Duty: WWII, however, we enjoyed 750-nit highlights that made the picture really pop. It never looked too bright, even in daylight outdoor scenes. Video processing was also perfect with HDR engaged. 120 Hz and Adaptive-Sync worked flawlessly on both AMD and Nvidia platforms with HDR content

STATELINE, Nev. -- Imagine flying a foot off the surface of Lake Tahoe at 70 miles per hour, soaring through the trees and getting a bird's-eye view of two outdoor NHL games with almost no one else around. Now watch the NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe this weekend. NBC will use two drones to broadcast live footage for the first time -- plus a fixed-wing aircraft, robotic cameras, handheld cameras and usual game cameras -- when the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights play in the Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday (3 p.m. ET; NBC, SN, SN1, TVAS) and the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers play in the Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday (2 p.m. ET; NBC, SN, SN1, TVAS). "You're going to see some shots that you've never seen in a hockey game before," NBC director Charlie Dammeyer said. The NHL long dreamed of playing in the wilderness to celebrate the most romantic roots of hockey, but it never made sense to play games without fans in attendance instead of drawing tens of thousands to a stadium. Then came the coronavirus pandemic. If ever there were a time to do it, this is it. The NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe is a made-for-TV event, which provides a mix of opportunities, challenges and responsibilities. The NHL can play somewhere it never could with fans in the stands, NBC can try things it never could with fans in the stands, and the whole thing is tailored toward the fans who cannot be there. "It's as close to a blank canvas as we've ever had for one of these outdoor games, and to me, that's the exciting part," Dammeyer said. "We still have to cover a hockey game. We still have to serve the fan. We still have to serve the viewer. That's what makes it unique. The only way for people to watch this is [on television], so it's our job to capture the best action, capture the game and oh, by the way, capture this great beauty that's around us." Everything was planned with television in mind, starting with the location of the rink on the 18th fairway of the golf course at Edgewood Tahoe Resort, 50 paces from the water at its closest point. The game camera is at center ice facing the benches and the view of the pines, the lake and the Sierra Nevada. Along with two cameras that isolate on players and another that focuses tightly on the puck, the game camera sits atop a deck made of scaffolding but decorated to look like it's made of stone. The deck is an independent structure to prevent shaking and almost 30 feet tall to mimic the camera angle in an arena, even though the cameras are closer than they would be in an arena. "You don't want to mess up how people are viewing a game, right?" Dammeyer said. "Really, it's the game camera. That's how 90 percent of the game is ultimately viewed, is from the game camera, so we start with that position." At the north end of the rink, facing the vista of South Lake Tahoe, are two camera towers decorated to look like fire lookout towers. At ice level surrounding the rink, there will be robotic cameras and handheld cameras. Normally, NBC couldn't use a camera called a jib because it is a large piece of equipment that would block fans in the stands. Meanwhile, wireless cameras will roam the surrounding grounds, from the beach to the golf course. A third-party vendor that usually films movies and commercials will fly the two drones. One is about 7-feet wide and heavy, and it will carry a cinematic, gyro-stabilized camera. Think of the other as the Connor McDavid of drones. "It's fast," Dammeyer said. "I think it can go 70-some miles per hour. It can go a foot off the lake. It can fly through trees. It's going to give you the wow shot." What neither drone will do, however, is fly over the ice. The drones will avoid flying over people. Dammeyer will rely on their high-tech, high-powered lenses and won't ask them to follow the puck. He will use them between the whistles. "Normally, in an indoor game, I might go to a tight face on the bench or something like that," Dammeyer said, standing next to the rink. "Here, I may come right off this lake right over here and come right up to the face-off." The fixed-wing aircraft will complete the picture with all-encompassing panoramas. "I think it's our job to, A, cover the game and, B, really remind people of where we are," Dammeyer said. "It's unique, and I think if we don't embrace that and the uniqueness of us doing a hockey game on a golf course in the middle of winter on Lake Tahoe with no fans … "I think that would be a mistake if we didn't embrace that, and we absolutely will embrace that."

Porsche’s celebrated track-bred GT3 line has moved into a new generation with the long-awaited unveiling of the 992-series 911 GT3. The new model, on sale now priced from £123,100, is described as “a highly athletic road car fit for high-performance driving on track balanced with the demands of everyday use”. As with previous GT3 models, Porsche Motorsport has been heavily involved in the car’s development, this time in a bid to transfer “pure racing technology into a production model more consistently than ever before”. To that end, the 992-gen GT3 features the traditionally high-revving naturally aspirated flat six in 4.0-litre form, with more power than ever. It also gets key aerodynamic and technological upgrades, the sum total of which has enabled the new model to set an impressive sub-7min lap time on the 12.9- mile Nürburgring Nordschleife. It also retains the option of a manual gearbox. The 911 GT3 benefits from extensive exterior upgrades aimed mostly at enhancing aerodynamics and cooling. The most significant addition is a new ‘swan neck’ rear wing, adapted from that of the 911 RSR racing car. It’s manually adjustable and teamed with a prominent diffuser that can also be adjusted into a ‘Performance’ position to increase downforce. Porsche claims this mode is reserved “strictly for outings on the circuit”. Other visible changes over a standard 992-gen 911 include a deeper front bumper with cleaner sides for further improved aero and a large central intake, plus further airflow-enhancing ‘nostril’ vents on the front bonnet. One GT3-specific optional extra is a roof made of exposed carbonfibre. A number of customisation options via the Porsche Exclusive range are available, including carbon mirror tops, darkened headlights, a redesigned rear light cluster and Guards Red or Shark Blue paintwork for the edge of the wheel rims. Powertrain Like all 992s, the new GT3 is available solely in wide-bodied form. Dimensions have yet to be revealed, but despite the increased width and additional tech over its predecessor, the car has a claimed kerb weight of 1418kg with the six-speed manual gearbox and 1435kg with the seven-speed PDK automatic. The use of carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) to make the front bonnet, lightweight glass, “optimised” brake discs and forged alloy wheels are listed alongside a lighter rear seat compartment cover as reasons for the model being only around 5kg heavier than its smaller predecessor. Furthermore, a lightweight exhaust system, which saves 10kg, features “infinitely” adjustable flaps to ensure a “highly emotional sound experience” while still meeting the latest emissions and noise regulations. The 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat six is adapted from the track-only GT3’s and is “practically unchanged” from the unit to be used in the latest GT3 Cup racing car, according to Porsche.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Bosch will work with Microsoft on a software platform for vehicles, it said on Thursday, as it strives to get a foot in the door to the fast-growing market for electromobility and automated driving technologies. By using cloud technology, the software platform will ensure that vehicles’ control units and computers can get software throughout their life time, the German auto supplier said. The technology is based on Microsoft Azure and includes software modules from Bosch, it said, adding that they plan to use the software platform in vehicle prototypes by the end of 2021. “We are thus creating the conditions for wireless updates to work just as smoothly and conveniently on vehicles as they do on smartphones,” said Bosch Managing Director Markus Heyn. The companies will also cooperate to adapt existing software tools to let automakers and suppliers to simplify and accelerate their own software updates. Last week, German carmaker Volkswagen AG announced a similar cooperation with Microsoft to use its cloud computing services to help it streamline its software development efforts for self-driving cars.

Ever been using your laptop and had the thought: "Man, I could do with at least six more screens!" Well, fret no more, a startup company called Expanscape has the answer to all your troubles. Behold the Aurora A7 Prototype, the base configuration for which is just $20,700—not including import fees. The project is something akin to Razer's Project Valerie, a three screen laptop prototype based on the company's Blade Pro, that was unfortunately it was stolen from CES one year, and was never actually released. According to Tom's Hardware, the price of the Aurora line-up has been upped over the past months. This is due in part to component shortages, as well as new Brexit border policies across the UK, where the company is based. However, the laptops developers are convinced demand will still be high, expressing those who've bought the products said they needed them "yesterday." These apparently healthy numbers of prospective buyers are willing to pay the equivalent of a year's wages for some, just for the privilege of having seven screens on the go. Though, at 12 kilograms, it won't be the most portable thing in your arsenal. But it's not just the screens you're paying for. The current A7 features an AMD Ryzen 5950x processor, Nvidia RTX 3070, 128GB RAM, and 8TB NVMe storage, all for $20,700 (£15,000) The earliest Aurora 7 prototype included an Intel Core i9-9900K CPU, 64GB of DDR4-2666 memory, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, and a boatload of storage including a 2TB HDD, four PCIe 3.0 M.2 SSDs, and one 2.5-inch MLC SSD. For those without a fifth of 100k knocking around in your back pocket, there's a mini version with just four 4K, 15.6-inch panels, and a little palm rest touchscreen that's still bigger than most standard phone screens at 7-inches. This smaller Aurora A5 notebook comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800U CPU, along with 64GB of DDR4 memory, a 2TB PCIe/NVMe SSD, and a 2TB SATA SSD. That'll cost you a much more affordable $6,286 (£4,500), but again that's not including import fees for those not residing in the UK. Having only just hit us with pricing, it's unclear how much the prototypes will change before they reach a final design, but I must say I'm a fan of the combine interface from Half-Life 2 look, so I hope they don't change too much. Though it may be an idea to shave a few kilos off the weight, and maybe tidy up those cables a bit.

The current generation Porsche 911, the so-called 992, is punctually unveiling its different versions. We already knew the Carrera, the Turbo, the Targa body, the Cabrio… However, we all wanted to take a closer look at the long-awaited Porsche 911 GT3 992. And here it is. The brand from Stuttgart revealed a few hours ago all the details of the new edition of this sports car born practically on the circuits. In fact, it is developed in close collaboration with Porsche Motorsport, inheriting technology and components typical of professional racing. Light materials and details studied to the millimeter Aesthetically it is distinguished from some less performance versions of the range by its greater width, higher air intakes, larger wheels, a specific diffuser with double central exhaust outlet and, of course, the spoiler. It has also been created using lightweight materials in some components to contain the weight, throwing 1,418 kilos on the scale in the manual versions. The brand cites the bonnet with carbon fiber reinforced plastic, light glass windows, as well as the rear cover. Even the exhaust system saves 10 kilos. Meanwhile, inside it maintains the style seen in the other Porsche 911 992, with a technological and digitized cabin. Porsche highlights the use of a new track display system in the instrument cluster. In it you can clearly see the pressure of the wheels, the temperature and oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature and other key information for use on the track. It also includes a visual gear change assistant, with a color bar that lights up from left to right of the tachometer, a more derived element from the competition but which certainly comes in handy in extreme driving. This is truly the Porsche 911 GT3 But the most interesting thing about all Porsche 911 GT3 is its technique. Hanging from the rear end is the four-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine with atmospheric intake, which develops 510 hp at no less than 8,400 revolutions per minute; although the cut is at 9,000. Few models remain that reach such a rotational regime. Its torque is 470 Nm at 6,100 rpm. Of course, all this cavalry is sent to the rear, but Porsche offers us two alternatives: 6-speed manual transmission or the 7-speed dual-clutch PDK. If you allow me, this car must have the manual transmission yes or yes. According to the Stuttgart company, this model is capable of rolling at 320 km / h (318 km / h with PDK) and doing 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.4 seconds (3.9 with manual gearbox) Regarding the suspension, a double wishbone scheme with stabilizer is used at the front, using a multi-link axle in the rear axle. In any case, the GT3 incorporates variable damping Porsche Active Suspension Management with sport adjustment and a height lowered by 20 mm. As for the brakes, on the front axle it mounts fixed aluminum monoblock calipers with six pistons, which bite into perforated discs of 408 mm in diameter and 34 mm in thickness. Four-piston monoblock calipers are used at the rear to attack 380 mm diameter and 30 mm thick perforated discs. Fastest street atmospheric on the Nürburgring By the way, the front tires have measures 255/35 ZR 20 and the rear ones are 315/30 ZR 21, being able to be a Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R optionally. With these tires he was able to run at the Nürburgring in 6: 59.927 in the long 20.8 kilometer variant, stopping the clock at 6: 55.2 in the variant shortened to 20.6 kilometers. Finally, we must talk about the price of this new Porsche 911 GT3 992. Part of the 192,134 euros, to which we will surely have to add the odd option. That is, we get into 200,000 euros almost with total security. If that's not a problem, the first units will start arriving in May 2021. When will we see the Porsche 911 GT3 RS?

UL Benchmarks is getting us used to launching new small tests to check new functionalities that incorporate the new APIs and compatible graphics cards, so in recent times we have not seen a major change in the main performance test of the suite but we have specific tests such as DirectX Raytracing, Variable Rate Shading, PCI Express bus speed test or even a test for NVIDIA DLSS. Now we see a new free addition to owners of the 3DMark suite that covers another DirectX 12 Ultimate functionality: Mesh Shaders. It should be remembered that DX12 Ultimate has 4 great technologies compared to DX12 which are DX Raytracing, Sampler Feedback, Variable Rate Shading and Mesh Shaders, so the UL Benchmarks suite is already prepared to test almost all of them separately. They actually have tests for 3 of the 4 new technologies and UL Benchmarks promises that they will include the Sampler Feedback test in a few months. That 3DMark incorporates the new Mesh Shaders test is not a surprise either since at the beginning of the week Intel raised the hare showing that its future graphics were capable of executing this precise test and therefore it seems that they will reach the market supporting the latest version of the API from Microsoft for games. The new test is not visually attractive, but it can be very useful for the measurement of this new technology, they comment that it is very short and that two passes are made: one without activating the function and another with Mesh Shaders activated, thus showing the improvement of performance involving the use of this technology. The first summary of provisional performance by architecture is as follows: NVIDIA Ampere (RTX 30): 702% AMD RDNA2: 547% NVIDIA Turing (RTX 20): 409% NVIDIA Turing: 244% In VideoCardz they have compiled the results of several graphic cards that we can see in the following table although they recognize that they have chosen the best result of each one and it does not have to be 100% representative of the real performance, for example there could be overclock. As a curious note we see that the GeForce RTX 20 offer higher performance than the RTX 30 without activating Mesh Shaders, however after activating the technology the increase with the RTX 30 is the most notable of all. We are left wondering what consumers should look for in the test results, if the% improvement or overall performance, since in the results we do not see a big difference between an RTX 2080 Ti and an RTX 3080 or for example the GTX. 1650 Super achieves a% improvement similar to that of an RTX 2080. We also don't know if it would be wise to wait for new versions of the graphics drivers from AMD and NVIDIA to get more reliable results. After the update of this news below we see that it was wise to wait. Unfortunately, the UL Benchmarks YouTube channel seems to be quite abandoned and we could not find the official video that would show us how the test looks on our computer, so we have to resort to what they have published on the Hardwareluxx channel, which seems to be made with an RTX 3080: The official UL Benchmarks website gives us all the information about the new test as well as the requirements such as Windows 10 version 2004 and a graph with drivers that give support for DirectX 12 Ultimate. Updated February 12: After the arrival of the new AMD drivers, many users are reporting that the performance of this test has improved a lot with the Radeon RX 6000, we have examples in our forum and VideoCardz shows us an example of this:

Injecting brains into memory Today, Samsung announced that its new HBM2-based memory has an integrated AI processor that can push out (up to) 1.2 TFLOPS of embedded computing power, allowing the memory chip itself to perform operations that are usually reserved for CPUs, GPUs, ASICs, or FPGAs. The new HBM-PIM (processing-in-memory) chips inject an AI engine inside each memory bank, thus offloading processing operations to the HBM itself. The new class of memory is designed to alleviate the burden of moving data between memory and processors, which is often more expensive in terms of power consumption and time than the actual compute operations. Samsung says that, when applied to its existing HBM2 Aquabolt memory, the tech can deliver twice the system performance while reducing energy consumption by more than 70%. The company also claims that the new memory doesn't require any software or hardware changes (including to the memory controllers), thus enabling a faster time to market for early adopters. Samsung says the memory is already under trials in AI accelerators with leading AI solutions providers. The company expects all validations to be completed in the first half of this year, marking a speedy path to market. Inside Samsung's HBM-PIM Memory Samsung presented the finer details of its new memory architecture during the International Solid-State Circuits Virtual Conference (ISSCC) this week. As you can see in the slides above, each memory bank has an embedded Programmable Computing Unit (PCU) that runs at 300 MHz. This unit is controlled via conventional memory commands from the host to enable in-DRAM processing, and it can execute various FP16 computations. The memory can also operate in either standard mode, meaning it operates as normal HBM2, or in FIM mode for in-memory data processing. Naturally, making room for the PCU units reduces memory capacity — each PCU-equipped memory die has half the capacity (4Gb) per die compared to a standard 8Gb HBM2 die. To help defray that issue, Samsung employs 6GB stacks by combining four 4Gb die with PCUs with four 8Gb dies without PCUs (as opposed to an 8GB stack with normal HBM2). Notably, the paper and slides above refer to the tech as Function-In Memory DRAM (FIMDRAM), but that was an internal codename for the technology that now carries the HBM-PIM brand name. Samsung's examples are based on a 20nm prototype chip that achieves 2.4 Gbps of throughput per pin without increasing power consumption. The paper describes the underlying tech as "Function-In Memory DRAM (FIMDRAM) that integrates a 16-wide single-instruction multiple-data engine within the memory banks and that exploits bank-level parallelism to provide 4× higher processing bandwidth than an off-chip memory solution. Second, we show techniques that do not require any modification to conventional memory controllers and their command protocols, which make FIMDRAM more practical for quick industry adoption." Unfortunately, we won't see these capabilities in the latest gaming GPUs, at least for now. Samsung notes that the new memory is destined to satisfy large-scale processing requirements in data centers, HPC systems, and AI-enabled mobile applications. As with most in-memory processing techniques, we expect this tech will press the boundaries of the memory chips' cooling limitations, especially given that HBM chips are typically deployed in stacks that aren't exactly conducive to easy cooling. Samsung's presentation did not cover how HBM-PIM addresses those challenges. Kwangil Park, senior vice president of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics stated, "Our groundbreaking HBM-PIM is the industry's first programmable PIM solution tailored for diverse AI-driven workloads such as HPC, training and inference. We plan to build upon this breakthrough by further collaborating with AI solution providers for even more advanced PIM-powered applications."

On paper, Anthem is a game with everything. It's developed by one of the gaming industry's most revered studios, BioWare, and published by one of its biggest companies, Electronic Arts. A co-operative sci-fi shooter, early footage showed off fluid gameplay and a world that is bold and bright, stuffed with exciting environments and plenty of enemy encounters. However - less than two years after its troubled debut - there are reports that the game's lacklustre reception and dwindling player count mean its days are numbered. 'The world was so empty' So how did a studio as beloved as BioWare, the same team behind fan-favourite franchises like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, go so wrong? "It's sad," says Inel Tomlinson, Twitch streamer and reviewer on BBC Sound's Press X to Continue podcast. "You can tell developers put a lot of hard work into it - whether or not the direction was correct or not, you can tell there was a lot of hard work. "Because the world is lush - and the graphics beautiful - it just wasn't cohesive enough for people to really enjoy it." I was surprised by how tactile it felt, but the world was so empty," adds reviewer Shay Thompson. "With all the promises they made about the stuff you could do... none of it was in there. It's a real shame. We know that BioWare is capable of so much more." Titles such as Destiny, Fortnite and World of Warcraft have grown huge communities of players that spend hours developing their characters and working to collect rare in-game items - it seems Anthem just hasn't delivered. "Considering it was meant to be a multiplayer, online role-playing game, it felt so lonely and isolated," adds streamer and reviewer Rage Darling. "I remember walking up to this exosuit thing, and there were so many mechanics, so many features you could add but there was no-one around." No-one to interact with or talk to, it was empty. "It just felt like they had the core features of a game - the foundation - but they missed the socialisation." 'Seen it all before' So can new games and their unfamiliar in-game worlds still attract - and perhaps more importantly, retain - an audience? "What makes people want to play new games is the world they create, and making new ones for people to care about is really hard," acknowledges Press X to Continue presenter Steffan Powell. Rising to that challenge is about trying original ideas according to Inel Tomlinson who says: "The issue with Anthem is that it felt like any other third-person shooter, except that you could fly. "Anthem is trying to be Call of Duty, it's trying to be all these other games in one, in a third-person world and some of it we've already seen before." Rage Darling says the game felt too much like a tick-box exercise full of tried and tested features seen in other games: "It's almost like they said, 'let's throw that at it!' It's a pick-and-mix." It's not impossible for the developers of Anthem to turn things around and make the game a success. Games like Final Fantasy XIV and No Man's Sky - both of which also failed to deliver their promises at launch and suffered heavy criticism from the games media and fans alike - have gone on to build passionate communities and win awards. "I have hope they might be able to turn it around," says Shay Thompson. "I think if they lean in to what makes BioWare games special, in that they tell these really cool stories, I think that will really help them. "They do have the potential to pull it out of the bag. "Destiny 2, Final Fantasy - these are games-as-a-service that did not have amazing launches, but they were able to turn it around because they leaned on what made the first games in their franchises really special."

Dismissing reports there were lapses in the arrest of climate activist Disha Ravi, Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava Tuesday said her arrest was made in accordance with law and that it doesn’t differentiate between a 22-year-old and a 50-year-old. “As far as Disha’s arrest is concerned, it was done as per the procedures. Law doesn’t differentiate between a 22-yr-old & a 50-yr-old. She was produced before a court which sent her to 5-day Police custody. It’s false when people say that there were lapses in the arrest,” he was quoted as saying by ANI. The Delhi Police has also written to video conferencing platform Zoom, seeking details of those who participated in the January 11 meeting organised allegedly by a pro-Khalistani group to prepare a protest “toolkit” backing the farmers’ agitation, officials said. Police alleged that Mumbai lawyer Nikita Jacob and Pune engineer Shantanu were among the around 70 people who had attended the meeting through Zoom app, days before the Republic Day violence in the national capital that left over 500 police personnel injured and one protester dead. “The Delhi Police has written to video conferencing app Zoom seeking details of participants who attended the meeting on January 11,” the official said. Joint Commissioner of Police (cyber) Prem Nath said, “Nikita and Shantanu had on January 11 attended a Zoom meeting organized by PFJ in which modalities were decided to create the ‘toolkit’ titled ‘Global Farmer Strike’ and ‘Global Day of Action, 26 January’.”

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Basketball legend Michael Jordan is donating $10 million to launch two medical clinics in underserved communities near his hometown in North Carolina, a regional health care system announced Monday. The Novant Health clinics are set to open in early 2022 in New Hanover County along North Carolina's southeastern coast, according to a statement from the system. The gift marks one of the largest ever from the Basketball Hall of Fame athlete, news outlets reported. Jordan previously gave $7 million to open Michael Jordan Family Clinics in Charlotte in 2019 and 2020. Those clinics have since seen more than 4,500 patients and have administered nearly 1,000 COVID-19 vaccines, Novant Health said. “I am very proud to once again partner with Novant Health to expand the Family Clinic model to bring better access to critical medical services in my hometown,” Jordan said in a statement. “Everyone should have access to quality health care, no matter where they live, or whether or not they have insurance." Novant said the new clinics would bring services to “more rural and rural-adjacent communities” and to those who are uninsured or underinsured. Jordan grew up in Wilmington before going on to play at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He later played 15 seasons in the NBA, winning six championships with the Chicago Bulls. “Wilmington holds a special place in my heart and it’s truly gratifying to be able to give back to the community that supported me throughout my life," he said.
