  3. Founded in 2015, the organization represents a joint effort by 10 automaker conglomerates representing nearly 30 makes altogether. It works with law enforcement and online marketplaces and has trained more than 1,000 officers with agencies like Customs and the FBI. According to the A2C2, the organization has been focusing on mass-market e-commerce marketplaces, not the B2B parts procurement systems used by automotive professionals. But it seems the automotive aftermarket should still be aware of the issue highlighted here. It suggests some due diligence might be in order when a mechanic or body shop encounters a customer who shows up with parts in hand and requests the repairer install them. “Consumers are most vulnerable to purchasing counterfeits through these e-commerce marketplaces, but there is also concern that some repair shops may be going that route for some of their purchases as well,” the A2C2 wrote in an email Nov. 18. “For them, A2C2 emphasizes the importance of knowing and trusting your source and utilizing reputable supply chains.” “Consumers are unaware that some products on online marketplaces are counterfeit,” the A2C2 wrote in the white paper. “Many consumers believe that the offerings online are more akin to brick-and-mortar retailers. Many do not realize the lack of regulation of the third-party sellers and thus are unknowingly putting themselves or their customers (in the case of automotive repair shops) at risk.” It’s important to note that the A2C2 isn’t challenging grey market parts, such as a component an automaker produces for one country that are purchased by a customer in another nation. (However, importers and suppliers should be sure they can trust their business partners. It’s possible counterfeits can work their way into such shipments. “As with all counterfeits, quantifying the problem is difficult, but counterfeit automotive parts have been commingled with legitimate OEM parts coming from foreign markets, such as those considered ‘gray market,'” the A2C2 wrote in an email. “A2C2 doesn’t deal at all with gray market parts, but law enforcement has discovered counterfeits hidden in such shipments from foreign markets.”) A2C2 also isn’t attacking aftermarket parts, which might match an automaker’s specifications but are clearly sold under their own third-party brand names — not an OEM’s. Rather, the A2C2 is calling out examples of out-and out fraud: Parts which aren’t commissioned or produced by the OEM for any market, but are misrepresented as official OEM products anyway. For example, the white paper describes an alleged counterfeiting operation which allegedly attached wheel center caps with unauthorized copies of automaker logos to aftermarket wheels. It then allegedly sold the finished products as genuine OEM originals. The A2C2 also mentioned a 2019 China raid which found 163,476 allegedly counterfeit airbags and cited a KTVT report of an allegedly counterfeit Kia airbag assembly Tracy Law Firm attorney Todd Tracy said lacked an airbag. “According to the FY 2017-2019 U.S. Joint Strategic Plan on Intellectual Property Enforcement, counterfeit automotive parts are wide-ranging,” the A2C2 wrote. (Emphasis A2C2’s.) “The list of seized parts includes airbags, brake pads, wheels, seat belts, oil and air filters, control arms, windshields, bearings, steering linkages, ignition coils, microchips, spark plugs, solenoids, clutch housings, crankshafts, diagnostic equipment, suspension parts, oil pumps and more.”
  4. In the luxury fashion business, make no bones about it: funding is the engine that keeps the vehicle of the business running. More to the point, without funding, it is nearly impossible to launch brand. Many times funding is required to ignite the engine to flourish in business. If you ask the folks who own the brands, they will surely agree that funding is one of the biggest challenges they face in today’s marketplace. And when it comes to creativity, it is much easier to execute ideas when you have funds readily available. Sadly, the reverse can cripple an entire business and into the grit of the infamous chapter eleven. In order to earn money a business is required to spend money. It is like the proverbial sowing and reaping; you cannot harvest where you have not sown. Unarguably, it took a lot of funding for luxury lifestyle and fashion brands such as Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein to rise to the levels they have attained. High returns in revenue are usually the result of an investment of time, energy, and most importantly, funding. Luxury brands were not ready for the onset of Covid-19 stop the manufacturing. No one was ready, But on the bright-side, the beautiful thing about e-commerce, lifestyle, and fashion brands is that they are largely the creative rave of the moment. Consumers for the most part, enjoy the convenience and ease shopping online and having their orders delivered to the doorstep. While fashion and lifestyle brands are listening to consumers—changing the norm with respect to style, the level of acceptance and growth in the sector is magical. MORE FOR YOU How To Enjoy The Dog Days Of Summer With Style How Millenials Are Changing Age-Long Traditions Of Luxury With Digital Technology The Best Grooming And Wellness For Men In 2020 Why bother? According to Statista, in 2019 alone, e-commerce sales accounted for 14.1 percent of all retail sales worldwide. This number is expected to increase to 22 percent by 2023. In terms of sales, global e-com sales reached a whopping 3.5 trillion U.S. dollars in 2019. In truth, online stores are taking over market share inciting brick-&-motar retail brands to invest more in the online market for their products and services. For guys like this, the online market provides them with the opportunity to reach many more people, expand into other territories without any restrictions, and ultimately achieve greater sales revenue. And that is something all brands wish to achieve after 2020. On the other hand, folks aiming begin a business as an entrepreneur, they are surely discovering that lifestyle and fashion are profitable e-commerce niches to operate in today’s volatile marketplace. Subsequently, this has led to the massive influx of countless e-commerce sites. In addition, there has been a rapid rise in the number of lifestyle brands for the fashion industry. I have been conducting research at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (where I teach from time to time) and have come to this simple conclusion after having run several statistical tests with the statistics department. The hard cold reality is that a brand needs to raise funds for the survival of the brand. Grassroots business can only last so long. Here are three (3) ways you can do that. 1. Take advantage of financing options The reason you need to raise money for your brand is to finance production/inventory acquisition, operations, marketing, and management. These key focus areas drive the rest of the business, including the miscellaneous slices. When faced with the challenge of limited funds, brand owners and executives are left with the tedious task of allocating available resources to focus areas. An alternative way of getting the funds you need to finance your lifestyle or fashion e-commerce brand would be to take advantage of financing options that cater to specific focus areas. Although startup funding is traditionally dominated by venture capital firms, the business world is seeing some kind of a paradigm shift in recent years. One example of this is the growth-focused investment firm DRVE, which is helping online businesses scale online with smart capital and expertise. In fact, a know of a few fashion entrepreneurs who have gone this route and are pleased with it. Instead of simply providing money in exchange for ownership, DRVE offers e-commerce businesses in industries like fashion, lifestyle, and beauty to foot their paid marketing budget and also let their online advertising specialists handle the entire paid marketing strategy. By doing this, DRVE enables business owners to eliminate the risk of losing precious funds in an unsuccessfully executed advertising strategy, while also allowing them to maintain their shares in their own company. DRVE’s three-step process, source: drve.com Through DRVE's growth-focused investment programs - Velocity and FastForward - the company offers two highly effective financing options. In FastForward, brands obtain access to funding and support from a team of specialists who advise and help optimize the online sales process, while Velocity participants receive advertising budgets of up to $50,000 per day in addition to full management of service for their paid advertising strategy Allies of Skin, a successful beauty company and participant of the Velocity program, reported to have scaled revenue by more than a hundred times since working with DRVE. “We were having a rapid growth in our channel business and all of a sudden, we are placing our largest orders, ever, for inventory. We had more customers than we had products!”, says Jim Perkins, Chief Operations & Financial Officer. Following this record production cycle, Allies of Skin is expanding their reach globally by building their brand presence across multiple markets, languages, and currencies. 2. Get started with pre-orders For e-commerce brands, users can easily become your brand financiers if you understand the dynamics of the industry and can infuse great customer service into your offering. Bearing in mind that people are not coming to your physical location to see the products before initiating a purchase, it then makes it possible to have them place the order before you get stock of the product. As an e-commerce brand, you can choose not to operate a physical store. Your model would then revolve around getting orders from your customers and servicing their orders through your suppliers. The products would be delivered directly to the customer, saving you the need for a physical store and additional expenses on packaging and branding. Big brands across different sectors take advantage of this option – pre-orders, to accurately predict demand, launch new products successfully, and drive sales comfortably. For example, Tesla built a waiting list of nearly 200,000 customers a day after announcing the Model 3. Each person on the waiting list made an upfront deposit of $1,000 in line with the purchase. "In order to convince customers to order an item before it is released, a brand usually has to establish a basis of trust first," says Johannes Kliesch, co-founder of the consulting firm Snocksulting. "That's why platforms like Amazon are attractive not only because of their incredibly large user base but also because consumers already consider Amazon trustworthy and are therefore more likely to place a pre-order." The firm advises dozens of e-commerce startups and SMEs and, among other things, has received Amazon’s Sales Partner of the Year award in 2019. Adding to the conversation, professional Amazon and e-commerce builder Chase Alley of PushAMZ says, “In addition to pre-order campaigns, setting up an Amazon store to complement your in-house store is another way to increase your company's cash flow. Especially in a world of lockdowns, where everyone orders what they need online, being on Amazon is a must." Alley and his partner Luis Millan, who professionally build and ramps up eCommerce stores to six-figure revenues per month in four to eight weeks, know the growth pattern well, and have developed over fifty turn-key stores for past clients. Millan explains, “it’s all about following a standardized process, and not skipping any vital stages.” 3. Consider funded global expansion No brand wants to stay small or local, your brand is certainly not an exception. Every brand wants to be seen, known, and liked. Sometimes, the visibility your business needs is going global. The publicity and other complexities that come with it can drive the growth of your brand. Such growth would easily catch the eyes of venture capitalists, who are particular about high growth potential. The problem with going global is that it comes at a high cost. In response to this problem, New Horizons Global Partners, a global PEO, offers specialist inbound investment services for companies seeking multi-country operational setup, particularly in Asia. According to Head of Growth at the company, Tom Kussmann, “New Horizons Global Partners works with brands who have expansion plans to actualize those plans” By going global, e-commerce brands in lifestyle and fashion position themselves for bigger financing opportunities. This is great for goodwill and for sales, which in turn makes more funds available to the brand. Beyond raising funds, it is important to ensure that your brand’s product quality is top-notch. If you pull in millions of dollars into the funding of a bad product, people might buy it at first because it is all in their face. But it is only a matter of time before they realize the defects in terms of quality. Even venture capitalists would prefer to invest in a brand with quality outputs. People know what they want and for a lifestyle and fashion brand, your products must make people feel good about themselves. Raising funds for your brand is not as tedious as it looks if you know what to do and where to look. Get started with the tips shared in this post. Cheers to your business success!
  5. Health care workers are expected to be first in line to be offered a COVID-19 vaccine when one is available. It makes sense: Getting a safe, effective vaccine would help keep them and their patients healthy. Seeing doctors, nurses and medical aides getting COVID-19 vaccines would also set an example for the community. But the speed of COVID-19 vaccine development, along with concerns about political interference with the process, has left some health care workers on the fence about COVID-19 vaccines. So many health care workers are expressing concerns and anxiety about getting COVID-19 vaccines that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says addressing hesitancy in this group is a top priority. A CDC survey, shared at a public meeting of its vaccine advisory committee on Nov. 23, found that 63% of health care workers polled in recent months said they would get a COVID-19 vaccine. "I'm really hesitant about it," says Kida Thompson, a family physician in El Paso, Texas. Her city is in the middle of a huge COVID-19 surge, and she believes that the broad adoption of a safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine will be key to ending the pandemic. But she's not 100% ready to get one herself. "For the ones of us who are asking questions, there's just a lot of questions," she says. Thompson is a big fan of vaccines in general. "The flu vaccine has been around for a while, its efficacy has been proven, the side effects have been proven, and they are usually minimal," she says. But the COVID-19 vaccine is entirely new. Previous vaccines have taken years to develop; this one came together in months. And the government's messaging around the vaccine — that it's the instant solution to the plague of 2020, and that it will be free for everyone — just sounds a little too good to be true, Thompson says. "Fast and free just doesn't equate," she says. "This whole thing has been politicized from Day 1, and there's a salesmanship going into it" that makes her skeptical. It's not a po[CENSORED]tion that public health experts initially thought would need much convincing, says Anuj Mehta, a pulmonologist at National Jewish Health in Denver and chair of Colorado's COVID-19 vaccine allocation committee. But reports of the Trump administration exerting political pressure on science agencies, along with claims that a COVID-19 vaccine could be available before the Nov. 3 election (it didn't happen), contributed to concerns that harmful shortcuts might have been taken with COVID-19 vaccines. Mehta says the fast vaccine development timeline is not, on its own, cause for concern. "The speed is not because people were cutting corners, but because of the urgency and the number of people working together on it," he says. Vaccine development processes such as running clinical trials, evaluating data and building manufacturing plants, which typically happen one after another, were instead overlapped. And now that the election has passed, concerns over political interference in the vaccine will likely subside, Mehta says. Giving COVID-19 vaccines to health care workers is intended to keep them healthy. "We want to be sure our health care workers are safe so they can protect their patients from disease, and that they can be protected and do their work," says Yvonne Maldonado, a pediatrician at Stanford's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and a vaccine hesitancy researcher. However, policies pushed earlier in the pandemic seeded doubts among health care workers about whether their health and safety were consistently prioritized. "This is the same po[CENSORED]tion that was told earlier this year that they should just go battle COVID-19 wearing a bandanna or a scarf," says Michelle Mahon, a registered nurse who represents National Nurses United, a union with more than 150,000 members across the country. Some health care workers have voiced concerns about safety and potential side effects from COVID-19 vaccines. They want to see clear data on safety and efficacy before they sign on to get a new vaccine, Mahon says. "It's a minority of people that are saying absolutely no way [to getting a COVID-19 vaccine]," says Dr. Marci Drees, hospital epidemiologist for ChristianaCare and a liaison to the CDC's federal vaccine advisory committee. "I think the majority of people really just want to know more." Thompson reads medical journals and follows vaccine news closely, and she says a lot of facts just aren't available yet. "I would legitimately still need convincing," she says. But she says she can be swayed. There have been calls by health care experts for the drug companies to release vaccine trial data publicly, and if they do, Thompson says then she'll be able to judge for herself whether a vaccine is safe. If her friends who are doctors choose to get the vaccine, that could convince her, too. And, even though Thompson has grown wary of government officials, she does believe in the integrity of at least one top infectious disease expert: Dr. Anthony Fauci, a career scientist who has become known for resisting President Trump's rosy takes on the pandemic response. "I trust what [Fauci] says," she says. "He's shown that he's able to actually stand on his own 2 feet during this whole thing without being swayed." That's what Thompson is trying to do, too. She's going to look at the facts and make up her own mind. Once she's convinced, she'll be able to make the case to her patients. She's already been telling them to wear masks nonstop.

  8. Russian tech outlet, Overclockers, claims that AMD has given a green light to its board partners to make custom Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics cards. The Radeon RX 6900 XT will be the fastest card within the Radeon RX 6000 lineup and will be featuring the full Big Navi GPU with a retail price of $999 US. AMD Reportedly Gives Greenlight To Custom Radeon RX 6900 XT Graphics Cards, Flagship Big Navi Might Just Break The 3.0 GHz Barrier According to the report (via Videocardz), AMD has enabled its board partners to design custom variants for the Radeon RX 6900 XT. This news comes a month after it was initially reported that AMD is in talks with its AIB partners to enable them to make custom RX 6900 XT graphics cards. The Radeon RX 6900 XT was the only card based on the Big Navi GPU to exclusively come in reference-cooled only flavors. The decision also seems to be made very recently since the launch of the Radeon RX 6900 XT is close by and it is reported that the custom models will definitely not be available at launch. The variants might actually take till 2021 to appear in the retail segment however there are chances that AIBs will show their custom designs first hand to potential buyers. It is likely that AMD tried holding off Navi 21 XTX GPU for reference flavors only since they are already low in stock as seen with the recent RX 6800 series launch. While the custom cooled models will feature better PCB designs and higher-end cooling, the stock cooler is no slouch either and performs exceptionally well on the RX 6800 series graphics cards. It looks like AIBs won't have to make any changes to design custom RX 6900 XT boards since the RX 6800 XT already shares a lot in common with the flagship variant. Aside from the specs changes, the Radeon RX 6900 XT has the same TDP but does come with a higher max clock limit of 3.0 GHz. It will be interesting to see if AIBs allow for a higher clock limit than the reference model as that would make the RX 6900 XT the first flagship card to breach the 3.0 GHz clock barrier.AMD's Quick Reference Guide For The Radeon RX 6000 Series Graphics Cards (Image Credits: Momomo_US)AMD RX 6900 XT "Big Navi 21 XT" GPU Powered 16 GB Graphics Card The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT will come packed with the Navi 21 XTX GPU which is the fully enabled die featuring 80 Compute Units or 5120 SPs. The card will also feature 16 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit bus interface, a 512 GB/s total bandwidth, and clock speeds of 2015 MHz base and 2250 MHz boost at reference specs. There are also 80 Ray accelerators for ray-tracing enablement on the graphics cards (one RA per Compute Unit). The graphics card will feature a TBP of 300W. In addition to the standard memory, the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card will also feature 128 MB of Infinity Cache on the GPU die. The cache will help boost bandwidth for higher performance at resolutions beyond 1080p HD. The 128 MB Infinity Cache boosts the standard 512 GB/s bandwidth by 3.25x, delivering an effective bandwidth of up to 1.664 TB/s across all Big Navi GPU based graphics cards. The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics cards will be available starting the 8th of December. The AMD RX 6900 XT is said to carry a price tag of $999 US and is positioned directly against NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3090.
  9. Update #2: Sony has now confirmed this month's PS Now additions via the PlayStation Blog. They are Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, Wreckfest, Darksiders III, The Surge 2, Stranded Deep, and Broforce. All of them are permanent additions except for Wreckfest, which will be available through until 31st May 2021. Update #1: Even more PS4 games are starting to pop up as part of the PS Now December 2020 update. It now looks like subscribers can also look forward to Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, The Surge 2, and Stranded Deep. That is in addition to the titles already listed below. Original story: As has become a tradition by now, the latest line-up for Sony's PlayStation Now service has gone live before the Japanese giant can even get around to confirming those select titles itself. For the month of December 2020, PS Now members will be treated to at least Darksiders III, Wreckfest, and Broforce. This information is sourced from the Japanese PSN service, where subscribers have also been handed Horizon Zero Dawn for the final month of 2020. Given the fact that this particular PlayStation 4 game has already been part of PlayStation Now in the EU and US, we expect it to be replaced with a different game. We will reissue this article once the update is confirmed by the hardware manufacturer. Unfortunately, we have had to wave goodbye to two time-limited PS4 games as part of the December update to the service. Metro: Exodus and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard are no longer playable through PS Now, but at the time of writing, we don't know if the new additions are also leaving the service after a certain period. For a full list of All PlayStation Now Games, head on through the link. Are you happy with December 2020's PS4 additions to PlayStation Now? Share your verdict in the comments below

  16. The stock prices of major U.S. listed EV players including Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) and Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) declined sharply on Wednesday. The sell-off was likely driven by China’s top economic planning body’s decision to investigate the investments and land use of Evergrande Auto which is seen as a key player in the Chinese EV market. [1] While the move doesn’t appear to impact Li Auto or XPeng directly, it’s likely an indicator that the government wants greater regulation of China’s electric-car players who have been growing quickly, driven partly by sizable government subsidies. Although the major Chinese EV players are expanding rapidly and innovating in areas such as battery technology and autonomous driving, the State’s moves and growing competition could limit the near-time upside for these companies which have seen stocks soar over the last few weeks. For perspective, Xpeng stock is up about 3x over the last month alone, while Li Auto stock is up over 2x. See our analysis Nio, Xpeng & Li Auto: How Do Chinese EV Stocks Compare? which compares the financial performance and valuation of the major U.S. listed Chinese electric vehicle players. [11/24/2020] Xpeng’s Autonomous Driving Unveil Drives Stock Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) stock jumped 34% in Monday’s trading after it unveiled its next-generation autonomous driving architecture that will feature in its 2021 production models. [1] The system will add laser-based lidar technology along with other significant software and hardware enhancements. While Xpeng and other Chinese automotive companies already offer autonomous highway driving on their vehicles, the lidar-based solution is expected to improve accuracy, helping Xpeng cars to drive themselves in more densely po[CENSORED]ted urban areas as well. Notably, Xpeng will be the first company to use lidar sensors in mass-market vehicles. Google GOOG -1.9% uses the technology in its Waymo self-driving cars, although they remain in the test phase. While the 34% jump in the stock price appears overdone, given that we don’t yet know the effectiveness of the system or the incremental costs that the new sensors will add, investors have reason to be optimistic. Autonomous driving is seen as one of the hottest themes in the automotive space. Moreover, self-driving algorithms are based on machine learning, and the more miles people drive using autonomous cars the smarter the algorithms become. If Xpeng’s system works well, it could enable the company to build an early mover advantage in the space, enabling it to gather more data and improve its self-driving capabilities. [11/3/2020] Strong October Deliveries Drive Chinese EV Stocks The stock prices of major U.S. listed Chinese electric-vehicle (EV) manufacturers soared on Monday, as they reported strong deliveries for October. Nio (NYSE:NIO) – one of the largest EV startups in China – saw its stock soar by about 9%, as it reported that deliveries in October almost doubled year-over-year to 5,055 vehicles. Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), another premium EV player saw its stock rise by about 7%, as it delivered about 3,040 vehicles through the month, marking an increase of about 230% from a year ago, driven primarily by sales of its P7 sedan which was launched earlier this year. However, deliveries were slightly lower month-over-month. Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI), a company that sells EVs that also have a small gasoline engine – said that it delivered 3,692 of its Li ONE SUVs in October, marking a month-over-month increase of about 5%. The company began production only late last year. MORE FOR YOU Nio, Xpeng & Li Auto: Why Chinese EV Stocks Are Soaring Nio, Xpeng & Li Auto: Which Chinese EV Stock Should You Pick? Why Did Xpeng Stock Soar 34% On Monday? [10/30/2020] How Do Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto Compare The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) space is booming, with China-based manufacturers accounting for over 50% of global EV deliveries. Demand for EVs in China is likely to remain robust as the Chinese government wants about 25% of all new cars sold in the country to be electric by 2025, up from roughly 5% at present. [2] While Tesla TSLA -0.5% is a leader in the Chinese luxury EV market driven by production at its new Shanghai facility, Nio (NYSE:NIO), Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) – three relatively young U.S. listed Chinese electric vehicle players, have also been gaining traction. In our analysis Nio, Xpeng & Li Auto: How Do Chinese EV Stocks Compare? we compare the financial performance and valuation of the major U.S. listed Chinese electric vehicle players. Parts of the analysis are summarized below. Overview Of Nio, Li Auto & Xpeng’s Business Nio, which was founded in 2014, currently offers three premium electric SUVs, ES8, ES6, and EC6, which are priced starting at about $50k. The company is working on developing self-driving technology and also offers other unique innovations such as Battery as a Service (BaaS) – which allows customers to subscribe for car batteries, rather than paying for them upfront. While the company has scaled up production, it hasn’t come without challenges, as it recalled about 5,000 vehicles last year after reports of multiple fires. Li Auto sells Extended-Range Electric Vehicles, which are essentially EVs that also have a small gasoline engine that can generate additional electric power for the battery. This reduces the need for EV-charging infrastructure, which is currently limited in China. The company’s hybrid strategy appears to be paying off – with its Li ONE SUV, which is priced at about $46,000 – ranking as the top-selling SUV in the new energy vehicle segment in China in September 2020. The new energy segment includes fuel cell, electric, and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Xpeng produces and sells premium electric vehicles including the G3 SUV and the P7 four-door sedan, which are roughly positioned as rivals to Tesla’s Model Y SUV and Model 3 sedan, although they are more affordable, with the basic version of the G3 starting at about $22,000 post subsidies. The G3 SUV was among the top 3 Electric SUVs in terms of sales in China in 2019. While the company began production in late 2018, initially via a deal with an established automaker, it has started production at its own factory in the Guangdong province. How Have The Deliveries, Revenues & Margins Trended Nio delivered about 21k vehicles in 2019, up from about 11k vehicles in 2018. This compares to Xpeng which delivered about 13k vehicles in 2019 and Li Auto which delivered about 1k vehicles, considering that it began production only late last year. While Nio’s deliveries this year could approach about 40k units, Li Auto and Xpeng are likely to deliver around 25k vehicles with Li Auto seeing the highest growth. Over 2019, Nio’s Revenues stood at $1.1 billion, compared to about $40 million for Li Auto and $330 million for Xpeng. Nio’s Revenues are likely to grow 95% this year, while Xpeng’s Revenues are likely to grow by about 120%. All three companies remain deeply lossmaking as costs related to R&D and SG&A remain high relative to Revenues. Nio’s Net Margins stood at -195% in 2019, Li Auto’s margins stood at about -860% while Xpeng’s margins stood at -160%. However, margins are likely to improve sharply in 2020, as volumes pick up. Valuation Nio’s Market Cap stood at about $37 billion as of October 28, 2020, with its stock price rising by about 7x year-to-date due to surging investor interest in EV stocks. Li Auto and Xpeng, which were both listed in the U.S. around August as they looked to capitalize on surging valuations, have a market cap of about $15 billion and $14 billion, respectively. On a relative basis, Nio trades at about 15x projected 2020 Revenues, Li Auto trades at about 12x, while Xpeng trades at about 20x. While valuations are certainly high, investors are likely betting that these companies will continue to grow in the domestic market, while eventually playing a larger role in the global EV space leveraging China’s relatively low-cost manufacturing, and the country’s ecosystem of battery and auto parts suppliers. Of the three companies, Nio might be the safer bet, considering its slightly longer track record, higher Revenues, and investments in technology such as battery swaps and self-driving. Li Auto also looks attractive considering its rapid growth – driven by the uptake of its hybrid powertrains – and relatively attractive valuation of about 12x 2020 Revenues. What if you’re looking for a more balanced portfolio instead? Here’s a high-quality portfolio to beat the market, with over 100% return since 2016, versus 50% for the S&P 500. Comprised of companies with strong revenue growth, healthy profits, lots of cash, and low risk, it has outperformed the broader market year after year, consistently. 17. MILAN — Innovation requires time. Sometimes quite a lot. It actually took 10 years for the Farinettis, the Italian family behind the success of high-end food emporium Eataly, to realize a project that Oscar Farinetti envisioned a decade ago. “We were strolling around the West Village in New York and my father’s attention was caught by the window of a store where knitwear was presented next to the image of a sheep,” explained Farinetti’s son Francesco. “We realized that that fashion store was doing what we were doing with food at Eataly and he had the idea of bringing the same concept, which is offering something tasty, clean and fair, outside the food industry in the world of things: a sort of Eataly of things.” More from WWD Black Friday Shoppers in New York City 2020 That’s how the idea behind Green Pea was born. Described by Francesco Farinetti, Green Pea president and chef executive officer, as “the world’s first green retail park,” Green Pea combines education, fashion, interior design, beauty, automotive and entertainment into a 161,459-square-foot space entirely dedicated to sustainability. Opening on Dec. 8, Green Pea, which spans over five floors, is located in Turin in the Lingotto district, where Eataly opened its first location in 2007. Controlled by Farinetti family’s Eatinvest SpA, while another 10 percent is in the hands of the Orecchia family behind Turin’s Vestil fashion store, Green Pea required investments of over 50 million euros. Its state-of-the-art building, an example of the most advanced sustainable architecture, is owned by Eataly Real Estate S.r.l., which also owns the Eataly locations in Milan and in Rome’s Ostiense neighborhood. “I think that with this project we are inaugurating a new way to do commerce: we brought 100 partners working together under the same roof with one mission, selling sustainable products,” said Farinetti, who expects that about 3 million people will visit Green Pea every year. “We are opening in the middle of a pandemic and, despite the difficulties of the moment, let me say that this is probably the best moment to launch this project. In fact, this pandemic really pushed people to reconsider their relationship with nature and boosted a new desire for a healthier lifestyle.”
  18. The biotech company Moderna released new data Monday morning that strengthens the case for its COVID-19 vaccine. It concludes the vaccine is 94% effective — and strongly protects against serious illness. Based on these latest findings, the company plans to submit an application for emergency use authorization to the Food and Drug Administration today. They build on Moderna's previously reported findings, based on a smaller number of cases detected in its study of about 30,000 volunteers. Overall, the study identified 185 cases in the people who received a placebo shot, compared with 11 cases in people who got the active vaccine. These latest findings are similar to results from Pfizer, which has developed a similar vaccine. And, like the Pfizer vaccine, this one seems to prevent severe cases. "There were 30 cases on placebo and zero cases that were on the vaccine," says Dr. Stephen Hoge, the president of Moderna. "So, it looks like in the trial we've been 100% effective at preventing severe COVID-19, which is really what's driving the burden of disease in hospitals and ultimately straining our public health systems." Based on those findings — and an analysis of the vaccine's safety and side effects — Moderna has decided it has enough information to submit an application to the FDA. The agency will consider granting emergency use authorization for the product in the coming weeks. "They will receive a good stack of paper," Hoge says, "but they've been receiving paper almost continuously from when we started." Pfizer applied for emergency use authorization on Nov. 9 for its COVID-19 vaccine. The FDA will hold its advisory committee to discuss that application on Dec. 10. That meeting is open to the public. The FDA's charge is to assure that drugs are both safe and effective, and the agency says it is not cutting corners when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines, which will potentially be given to many millions of healthy people. "They still have an important and solemn responsibility to review that data and develop an independent perspective on it," Hoge says, "and that's not an easy thing to do on a short time horizon." Moderna expects that on Dec. 17, the FDA will be ready for a public meeting to discuss this data. A vaccine could get the thumbs-up shortly thereafter. Either or both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines may start to become available in mid to late December, though supplies will be limited. Both use the same novel technology. Instead of injecting a weakened or dead virus, which is a common strategy for vaccines, these products are essentially small pieces of genetic material. When that's injected into a person's arm, it's picked up by cells in the immune system. The cells read the genetic code and use that to produce a protein that is actually a key fragment of the coronavirus. The body then builds antibodies that latch onto that fragment, so if and when someone encounters the actual coronavirus, the body is primed to fight it off with antibodies. Though the key action is happening at a cellular level, inoculation can trigger noticeable symptoms, ranging from a sore arm to achiness, or even fever and flu-like symptoms. Dr. Carlos del Rio, a vaccine scientist at Emory University in Atlanta, was involved in testing the Moderna vaccine. The symptoms he saw were quite similar to symptoms people get when they get the shingles vaccine. For many, the shingles vaccine creates a strong reaction. "You feel terrible for a day or two but then you're fine," del Rio says. That's the price of getting a vaccine that protects you, in the case of COVID-19, from a potentially deadly disease. But del Rio says it is a complication in administering the vaccine, because people who get these symptoms after a shot might think the vaccine actually gave them COVID-19. "We're going to have to do very good messaging to explain to people this is not COVID, it's a side effect of the vaccine and it's OK to have it," del Rio says. "It actually means the vaccine is working." The vaccine studies have been designed to show whether a shot prevents someone from falling ill. But scientists don't yet know whether people who are vaccinated can still get infected but remain without symptoms. That's important because if a vaccine can prevent even silent infections, it can further reduce the spread of the pandemic. Hoge said the company is collecting data to look for those silent infections among vaccinated volunteers, but that information won't be in hand until early next year. So, it's possible that some people who are vaccinated can still spread the virus. "That's why I tell people when you get vaccinated, continue wearing your mask," del Rio says. "We're going to know later if the vaccine actually prevents infection." He says it's remarkable how quickly all this has come together — less than a year from the time the novel coronavirus was first identified, to now, apparently on the verge of having tens of millions of doses of vaccine ready to go. "A vaccine that prevents people from getting, sick, especially from getting critically ill? It's a great vaccine right now," del Rio says. With nearly 2,000 deaths per day, "My God, we really need this vaccine." You can contact NPR Science Correspondent Richard Harris at rharris@npr.org.
  19. Technology should make life simpler, and in many ways, it does. We send texts and emails to friends and family, and they receive our words in the blink of an eye. That's progress! Password management has also leaped forward. Gone are the days of keeping track of miscellaneous passwords in a notebook that could be lost or in a hackable browser. Today, we have NordPass, a one-size-fits-all password manager that lives on your desktop, iPhone, or Android device. Most password managers complicate things Basic password security is drilled into our heads every day. We know it's a bad idea to use simple passwords or reuse the same password across multiple websites. We've also learned the hard way that website password storage isn't a reliable way to store sensitive information. Have you ever received an email saying that your favorite retailer's website was compromised and you need to change your password immediately? Right, not unusual. When online password managers came along, they seemed to solve the problem of remembering the long, complicated passwords we invented for all the websites and apps we used. But they got it wrong too. Some password managers work only on your Windows or Mac while others are meant only for your smartphone. And none of them worked as they should while you're offline. Who has time to add their data to multiple password managers? NordPass is different. NordPass believes that your passwords should be accessible no matter where you are, what device you're on, and even when you're offline. This hassle-free approach means that you can use your passwords on a Windows PC, a Mac, an iPhone, an Android device, and even on a Linux desktop. Best of all, you can sync your passwords on up to six devices and use those devices simultaneously. And if you're offline, no problem. NordPass works online or offline. They're your passwords; shouldn't you be able to access them With NordPass, you can import all your passwords from other managers in seconds. It's that easy. Passwords are saved with a click, allowing you to log in automatically to websites and apps. NordPass also stores secure notes, personal information, and credit card details. NordPass offers the security features to please your tech-savvy self and the simplicity that your grandmother needs. NordPass generates complex, hard-to-guess passwords, scans data breaches for password leaks, identifies weak links to secure your accounts, and offers Biometrics and two-factor authentification. And the whole thing is protected by XChaCha 20 encryption. NordPass also lets you share passwords securely across platforms and with trusted contacts. 21. Game information Initial release date: 2020 Publisher: Ubisoft Type: Action-adventure game Author: Geoffrey Yohalem Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and more Software developers: Ubisoft, Ubisoft, Quebec Immortals Fenyx Rising is what happens when Assassin's Creed Odyssey meets The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There are some ideas the latest IP from Ubisoft can claim as its own, but it's impossible to deny the comparisons between it and the two open-world juggernauts. As such, it feels like the French publisher has bundled together a collection of ideas, themes, and features already done better by past games. Not everything has to be a ground-breaking innovation, though, and Immortals Fenyx Rising settles for its lot with a tongue in cheek adventure through Greek mythology. While it's hardly the most ambitious PlayStation 5 game playable right now, it could act as a great stopgap between the launch line-up and more important titles arriving next year. That's because it occupies a middle ground between the two aforementioned behemoths, not quite capitalising on what each did so well but providing more enough to keep you going. The game subscribes to the typical Ubisoft open world formula quite closely, but it's much smaller in scope with a campaign that can be beaten inside 20 hours and just a handful of regions to explore — welcome news for those exhausted by the length of an Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Combat is fairly enjoyable, if a little formulaic, while traversal can be considered the game's high point with a set of wings to propel yourself through the air. And yes, the mechanic plays a lot like the paraglider Link uses to explore The Great Plateau and beyond. An upgradable stamina meter governs how far Fenyx (the customisable main character) can fly as well as climb, because you'll need to reach those great heights to take advantage of your wings in the first place. It quickly helps to create a loop of gliding and mountain scaling that feels good to partake in, putting the task of reaching an objective in your hands. Risking a dash up a rocky crevice could prove fruitful if you have the stamina to match, or it could spell your demise. Again, hardly the most original feature in the world, but it works for Immortals Fenyx Rising despite the overwhelming sense of familiarity. The comparisons don't stop there, however. The title has its own version of Shrines, dubbed Vaults, that will test your puzzling and combat skills — they all even look rather similar, just like Breath of the Wild's trials. Then doubling back to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for a second, the game even lifts entire sound effects from the plight of either Kassandra or Alexios. You'd only ever pick up on this if a significant amount of your time had been invested into the title in question, but the audio cues of the map, arrow targeting, swimming, and horse riding are unmistakably the same. So, what does Ubisoft's latest do differently? Rather than taking itself seriously, a very light-hearted tone seeps its way into the story and every facet of dialogue. It draws on Greek mythology to tell a tale hardly worthy of awards. Fenyx must rescue four ancient gods and return them to their natural form before taking on the monster who put them in that state in the first place. You know, the usual video game stuff. What separates it from the rest are Zeus and Prometheus, who narrate over the entire thing in an attempt to crack as many jokes and puns as possible. Most lines are pretty cringey, warranting a shake of the head rather than a chuckle, but we did laugh at a couple of one-liners. It's the sort of comedy you know is deplorable yet you can't help but crack a smile. Dad jokes, if you will. The story would undoubtedly be worse without them though so their presence is welcomed. If they're not commenting on your aerial efforts, combat provides just enough talking points to make it interesting for most of the journey. Light attacks deplete the health bars of mythical beasts, as do heavy attacks for their stagger meters. You can focus on either one in order to send them to Elysium, although a handful of abilities acquired through skill points speed up the process. The game doesn't have a whole lot to offer in that respect, with a couple of unlockable attacks which can deal damage across a wide area or devastate a stagger bar. It's still simple but satisfying fun, however. While the game doesn't have deep skill trees or a long list of abilities to master, fights feel gratifying as speedy dodges and leaps into the air greatly expand your manoeuvrability. Timing your dash correctly slows down time, allowing you to get some free hits in and aerial combat comes with its own set of moves. Fights do start to get quite samey in the back half of the title, though, as the system runs out of ideas after revealing most of its mechanics in the first few hours. Still, there's enough here to consider it a highlight for the most part. The same can be said for puzzles, except the downright infuriating ones. Most brain teasers are somewhat basic — control the direction of wind using your bow and arrow, transport boulders to specific places, and direct arrows through specific circles in the environment. However, it's the pressure plate puzzles that really got on our nerves. You need to match up objects of various weights with the designated pad on the ground, but the problem lies in that you don't always have direct access to them — a set of metal bars may be blocking your path. Fenyx's powers come into play here as you fling the object to the correct position, but the mechanic is so finicky that it may not land correctly and activate the plate, despite that being the correct solution. It turns the whole act into a case of frustrating trial and error where you're fighting the game rather than making any progress. Speaking of which, the PS5 DualSense controller actually falls on the opposite end of the spectrum by providing less resistance than it probably should. The new adaptive triggers are utilised sparingly, with just the release of an arrow from a short bow activating any major implementation. Haptic feedback crops up here and there too, but it's nothing more than a pretty basic use case. PS5 also offers two different modes to choose from, with the performance-focused selection being the one to go with. 60 frames-per-second sees the title run smoothly with no noticeable dips. It comes with a slight hit to the visuals, but the world will continue to look colourfully beautiful. Bright shades and tones paint the mythical universe to create an inviting universe just begging to be explored from top to bottom. The same goes for the animals inhabited by it, some acting as mounts to ride and others creatures to slay. When it wants to, Immortals Fenyx Rising looks really good. There's nothing quite like the beams of the sun creeping over the hillside to reveal another new environment to explore — complete with its own colour palette, ancient architecture, and impressive statues. System Requirements Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 / AMD FX-6300. Video Card: GeForce GTX 660 / AMD R9 280X. VRAM: 2GB NVIDIA / 3GB AMD. RAM: 8GB (Dual-channel mode) Storage: 28GB HDD.
