  1. Over 550 people in Eluru town of Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district have been suffering from convulsions, seizures, dizziness and nausea since last Saturday evening. The seizures last for 3 to 5 minutes followed usually by vomiting or loss of consciousness. Doctors at the Eluru Government Hospital, where most victims are being treated, say the patients are fine within one or two hours and are discharged. People of all age groups, men, women and even small children are among the victims. While on Saturday night at least 90 people were brought to hospitals, the figures drastically rose on Sunday and Monday. Only since Tuesday evening has the number of victims come down. On Wednesday, less than 20 persons were brought to hospitals but most of them did not suffer convulsions or seizures. The initial panic has subsided by Thursday and less than 20 persons are undergoing treatment or are under observation. Eluru illness: What has caused the sickness? The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi found traces of lead and nickel in blood samples of 25 victims out of the 45 samples sent by the state government. Public health experts and scientists from various agencies are awaiting detailed reports of analysis of blood and water samples but the primary suspicion is on water contamination by heavy metals. Scientists suspect that pesticide or insecticide has seeped into drinking water sources. The district administration and Eluru Municipal Corporation officials are also investigating if excessive use of bleaching powder and chlorine in sanitation programmes as part of Covid-19 prevention measures caused water contamination. Experts from National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Hyderabad who collected water, blood, and food samples from Eluru say there are indications of lead contamination but can confirm this only after detailed test reports. Eluru ‘mystery’ illness |Excessive bleach, chlorine used in Covid sanitisation drives may have contaminated water, experts say Eluru receives water through canals from both Godavari and Krishna rivers. The canals pass through agricultural fields where runoff laced with pesticides mixes with water in the canals. Many aspects of the mystery illness have baffled scientists. People who only use packaged drinking water have also fallen sick. There are many instances where only one or two persons in the family fell sick. Over 70 per cent of Eluru town is affected. Even areas outside of Eluru Municipal Corporation to which it does not supply drinking water are also affected.📣 Follow Express Explained on Telegram Who is involved in the investigation? While AIIMS, New Delhi is testing blood, water and milk samples for heavy metals, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Hyderabad, is testing for pathogens. National Institute for Nutrition, Hyderabad, is testing samples of urine, blood, water, vegetables, fruits and other consumables for traces of heavy metals and pesticides. The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology is testing water and blood samples for traces of pesticides. A two-member WHO team is in Eluru to monitor the situation. During the household survey, water samples taken locally were tested but no traces of lead or pesticides were found. While lead and pesticides continue to be concentrated upon, investigations pertaining to other pathogens, probable sources also being carried out. What action is the state government taking? The West Godavari district administration has deployed 62 medical teams to monitor residents in the town and nearby areas affected by the mystery illness. The medical and relief teams have conducted two rounds of household surveys to check the condition of people, and even on Thursday, the teams were conducting checks on residents to make sure they are safe.Teams of officials have spread out to check all sources of water to find out the source of suspected contamination. Officials were scouring garbage dumps where batteries may be leaking and contaminating groundwater. Teams are also tracing the two canals that bring water to Eluru to check for any source of contamination.

  2. Software maker C3.ai, which was founded by former Oracle Corp. executive Tom Siebel, is pricing its initial public offering (IPO) above the marketed range, aiming to make $651 million, Bloomberg reported, quoting unnamed sources familiar with the goings-on of the company. The company, based in Redwood City, California, sold 15.5 million shares on Tuesday (Dec. 8), pricing them at $42 a piece after initially putting them at $36 to $38, according to the unnamed sources. Based on the outstanding shares listed in C3.ai's filings, the company is likely to have a market value of $4 billion at $42 a share. The IPO is being backed by Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America, according to Bloomberg, and the company's shares were expected to begin trading Wednesday (Dec. 9) under the symbol AI. Some of the big name backers for C3.ai will acquire shares in a private placement as part of the listing, including Microsoft, which would buy $50 million at IPO price, and Spring Creek Capital, which plans to buy $100 million in common stock, Bloomberg writes. PYMNTS reports that the company's good fortunes have come from investors flocking to tech stocks, and Siebel, in a statement, said the company's focus is to leverage its tech leadership, first mover advantage and management leadership to access a new global position. If it succeeds, he said, C3.ai will be "one of the world's great software companies." Other big tech companies have also capitalized on the current hunger for tech stocks, including Palantir Technologies, Snowflake and Unity Software, which all went public this year. DoorDash launched a successful IPO soon after seeing its revenues soar because of the increased need for delivery during the pandemic. Earlier this year, the company entered into a partnership with Microsoft and Adobe on a new customer-relationship management software intended to compete with Salesforce.com's, according to Bloomberg.
  3. NVIDIA's upcoming RTX 3080 Ti flagship has been spotted in an HP driver courtesy of StefanG3D (via Videocardz). According to the source, RTX 3080 Ti is the final name for the GA102 based 20GB graphics card that NVIDIA is preparing to take out the big Navi lineup. NVIDIA's upcoming RTX 3080 Ti 20GB graphics card finally starts popping up in drivers User T4CFantasy also confirmed to Videocardz that the spotted GPU ID indeed belongs to the RTX 3080 Ti:According to T4CFantasy to whom we reached out, those names are 99% correct. He is sure that 2205 ID belongs to the RTX 3080 Ti because he had already seen traces of this new SKU through the software that he wouldn’t name. The NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti was originally supposed to be based on the PG132 SKU20 (although NVIDIA decided to rename it) and has been in the pipeline for quite some time. While the exact CUDA core count is not yet confirmed, it will have twice the amount of memory when compared to the vanilla RTX 3080. To be clear, even the nomenclature is not confirmed as the SUPER suffix could appear anywhere in the name should Jensen deem it so. We highly recommend users (that want to buy an NVIDIA card) to go for the RTX 3090 (if they can afford it) or wait for the RTX 3080 Ti/SUPER 20 GB. With this amount of shading power, you will want to have a complimentary memory buffer. According to Videocardz, the card will be landing in January 2021. Considering the fact that killer apps like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 already chomp away all the vRAM the 2080 Ti had to offer, 10 GB is going to feel tiny after a year or two. Next-gen consoles are already driving games with asset-streaming of large worlds, so vRAM is going to start becoming a lot more crucial than before. With AMD rocking a flagship card with 16GB of vRAM, NVIDIA had to reply with their own high vRAM card. According to Kopite, the RTX 3080 Ti will be based on the GA102 and will have specifications between an RTX 3080 and 3090. The exact chip nomenclature is GA102-250-A1 and will feature a 384 bits bus with GDDR6X memory. The bus-size means NVIDIA will either be using a 12 GB buffer or a 24 GB one. Considering Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is already bottlenecked by the 11 GB ram on the RTX 2080 Ti, it would be disappointing to see NVIDIA ship another powerful GPU with a small memory buffer. With RTX IO and asset streaming (Unreal Engine demo for next-generation consoles) becoming a thing in the next year or so, every bit of buffer will help in this paradigm shift. It is also unclear at this point how the revelation of this new GPU fits into the rumors about NVIDIA planning a move back to TSMC. It does however lend credence to the belief that the RTX 3000 series, at least for now, is staying on the Samsung 8nm process. The company initially faced less than ideal yields and supply constraints at launch but those are expected to significantly improve as we enter into the new year. This is going to be an insanely powerful card with 34 TFLOPs of power. That said, the current API, driver, and application infrastructure cannot fully take advantage of all this raw power. This is the actual reason why NVIDIA's insanely powerful cards don't scale linearly with TLFOPs. The company essentially made cards that are ahead of their time when compared to the surrounding software ecosystem. The hard evidence for this lies in the fact that the RTX 3000 series has been experiencing non-linear positive scaling when going down the stack. An RTX 3070 which has slightly more cores than the RTX 2080 Ti beats the former flagship - putting to rest any rumors or allegations about the CUDA cores in the Ampere series not being as strong as the Turing series or misleading blames at architecture design with lacking INT performance. AMD's big Navi series drops later today and it remains to be seen how the GPU market shapes up as we enter into the holiday season. NVIDIA's pricing is great but it needs to work with developers to fix the API and driver stacks to properly take advantage of the raw performance offered by the Ampere series (fine wine of the highest order) and in the meantime, AMD is going to churn out budget-friendly performance cards with what appears to be ample supply. They have also taken a lot of steps to make sure that the bot-scalping that happened with NVIDIA does not happen at their Radeon RX 6000 series launch.

  5. Policy push will help it leverage MNCs’ ‘China Plus 1’ supply chain model A new future beckons the Indian auto components industry. Potential exists for the sector to not only grab a larger share of the world trade but also, in the process, make some homegrown brands globally recognised and respected. Many favourable factors have set the stage for it. The global supply chain realignment, a drive to make India self-reliant, and the Centre’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme have all supported this progress. While the domestic auto parts industry has emerged as a strong export-led one with about a quarter of its production exported worldwide, its share in the $1.3-million global automotive trade is still a minuscule 1.3 per cent. Increased enquiries To start with, the realignment of the global supply chain is real and the Indian auto parts makers have started to feel its benefits. They are seeing several enquiries and, in some cases, orders from buyers who were till recently sourcing from China. A strong domestic market and a significant exposure to exports make the auto components sector ideally placed to grab a share of the China market. While China will remain the biggest and fast-growing market ($550 billion in size as against India’s $50-billion industry), the key message coming home to auto parts companies is the ‘China Plus 1’ model that global automotive players are embracing. Several leading auto parts companies such as Sundram Fasteners, Wheels India and the Rane Group have started getting orders due to ‘China Plus 1’. However, industry analysts reckon that India needs to get its act together to grab a greater share as countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia are viewed as being more attractive now. Policy instability An unstable policy regime in India is one of the major worries for investors. For instance, the axle load carrying capacity is suddenly hiked by 25 per cent. Result: it sets the CV market back by two years. Then there is the sudden leap to BS-VI norms. BS-VI migration Unlike other nations, the auto industry here managed to migrate to BS-VI in a very short time. But localisation suffered and, today, BS-VI components are among significant imports. “The policy and regulatory framework should be a well-agreed-upon road map and, once decided, it shouldn’t be tinkered with. Because, the cost of capital in India is one of the highest in the world and there should be visibility to make investments,” said an industry representative. The industry has been localising aggressively. “Localisation always works in the interests of the industry as we are in a very price-sensitive market,” said Vinnie Mehta, Director General, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). “Every 5-6 years, the amount of devaluation has been about 15 per cent on an average. So, imports are getting expensive, while localisation helps in keeping the prices steady for the customers; it also helps in continuous design improvements and innovation.” Incentive to localise The recently announced PLI scheme is expected to give a much-needed boost to the companies to localise faster. “What is heartening is the support we are getting from the government in all these developments,” said Mehta. The Centre has earmarked about 40 per cent of the overall allocation under the PLI scheme to the auto sector. The auto industry, a key contributor to the economy, has lauded the move and most players are awaiting the details. “We are waiting for full details to see whether to make any structural changes like hiving off some thing as a special unit to seize the emerging opportunity. We will decide based on the final details of the PLI scheme,” said L Ganesh, Chairman, Rane Group. Global aspirations Indian auto parts makers see themselves as back-end boys. Their quality is recognised globally. What they lack is the aspiration to become big. The conditions are ripe today for them to take the plunge. An Indian Bosch, Continental or ZF could be round the corner.
  6. Peter Alliss was nattering to a friend on a flight back from Ireland, discussing how he had missed a chance to win that week's golf tournament. It was a conversation that led to one of the greatest careers in sports commentary. Alliss' tale of golfing woe was clearly wonderfully told and it was overheard by someone working in television who could spot broadcasting potential. Ten days later a letter arrived from BBC producer Ray Lakeland. It said, so Alliss told me: "I was sitting behind you and you were telling the story of how you lost and it was very amusing. Would you like to come and work with us at The Open?" "I was only 30 years old, I was still trying to win The Open," Alliss continued. "But they said just come up after your round and tell us what it was like out there, and that's what I did - and I've been there ever since." Listen: A tribute to the 'voice of golf' Peter Alliss And so, at the 1961 Open at Royal Birkdale, Peter Alliss, who has died at the age of 89, embarked on a broadcasting career that made him the undisputed 'voice of golf'. His final broadcast came only last month, when he described Dustin Johnson's Masters victory at Augusta. Because of recent ill health and caution surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, he commentated from a screen at his home in Surrey. Back in 1961 Alliss combined his very first efforts behind the microphone with playing duties, and finished in a share of eighth place behind Arnold Palmer. The charismatic American champion was starting to po[CENSORED]rise golf across the globe, paving the way for figures such as Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson and Severiano Ballesteros to become international superstars. And thanks to the chance of an airline seating plan, television sport had discovered the perfect voice to accompany their exploits. The images were initially monochrome but Alliss had the words and delivery to turn them technicolor. He brought knowledge and authority, having come from a golf dynasty that made him one of Britain's best players of the 1950s and '60s. The son of leading professional Percy Alliss, he was born in Berlin on 28 February 1931. Weighing 14 pounds 11 ounces, he was believed to have been Europe's heaviest baby at the time. He left school aged 14 and devoted himself to the game of golf, playing for the England boys team in 1946. A year later his went to his first Open after travelling with his father to Royal Liverpool. "I was obviously excited," he told me earlier this year. "The journey up on the train, going to Bournemouth from Ferndown. "We went on the bus with golf clubs and suitcases and everyone looked at us as if were mad. 'What the hell have you got in that bag?' Then the train up to London and up to Chester and then we had a bus along to Hoylake." The youngster was somewhat overwhelmed and failed to qualify, but went on to post five top 10s in 24 appearances between 1951 and 1974. He won more than 30 tournaments at home and abroad, including the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese Opens. Alliss reflects on the tales behind Great Britain's Ryder Cup wins Alliss missed the cut in his two Masters appearances, in 1966 and 1967, but won Britain's PGA Championship three times - in 1957, 1962 and 1965. He made his Ryder Cup debut in 1953 at Wentworth. Alliss added: "The Ryder Cup is one of the world's best sporting events. It's such an honour to say I've played in golf's greatest team event eight times." And there was to be triumph to follow the initial disappointment. In 1957 he was on the GB team that claimed its first win against the Americans in 24 years. "There was great jubilation," he remembered. Alliss could boast an unbeaten record against Palmer in singles matches, taking one-and-a-half points from their two encounters, played when the American superstar was at the height of his powers. Yet for all this playing pedigree, it is for his broadcasting skills that he will be most remembered. Following the death of Henry Longhurst, Alliss took over as the BBC's lead golf commentator. Golf gravitas was supplemented by sharp wit and whimsy that made his a uniquely charming voice. It brought him millions of fans on both sides of the Atlantic. As golf grew ever more po[CENSORED]r, he became one of Britain's most famous figures, hosting the highly successful Pro-Celebrity Golf programme on BBC television and his own chat show 'Around with Alliss', which attracted many of the biggest entertainment stars of the 1970s and '80s. His influence on golf stretched far and wide. He had a course architecture business with Dave Thomas that included among its commissions The Belfry, which has hosted four Ryder Cups. Alliss also wrote several books on the game. He was a traditionalist who enjoyed the peculiarities of golf club life and he remained a brilliant and buoyant raconteur until the very end. When we met at his house in February this year he spent two hours energetically regaling me with tales of Opens past and his views on the modern game. He wondered where manners had gone and whether today's stars were as skilful as those who played in the early 20th Century. But above all, he was still interested and fascinated by the sport. He was determined to carry on commentating, looking forward to being there for the 150th Open at St Andrews in 2022. He had been to the last 69 of them and saw no reason to stop. The game was his life and within it he was an immense and irreplaceable presence. A colossus in his sport and in broadcasting, he will be greatly missed.
  7. Sore eyes are the most significant vision-based indicator of COVID-19, according to a study led by an Indian-origin scientist which provides more understanding of how the novel coronavirus travels through the body. Researchers at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in the UK asked people who had a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis to complete a questionnaire about their symptoms, and how those compared to before they tested positive. “This is the first study to investigate the various eye symptoms indicative of conjunctivitis in relation to COVID-19, their time frame in relation to other well-known COVID-19 symptoms and their duration,” said study lead author Professor Shahina Pardhan, Director of the Vision and Eye Research Institute at ARU. The study, published in the journal BMJ Open Ophthalmology, found that sore eyes was significantly more common when the participants had COVID-19, with 16 per cent reporting the issue as one of their symptoms. Just 5 per cent of the participants reported having had the condition beforehand, the researchers said. While 18 per cent of people reported suffering from photophobia or light sensitivity as one of their symptoms, this was only a 5 per cent increase from their pre-COVID-19 state, they said. The study found that of the 83 respondents, 81 per cent reported ocular issues within two weeks of other COVID-19 symptoms, and of those, 80 per cent reported their eye problems lasted less than two weeks. The most common reported symptoms overall were fatigue — suffered by 90 per cent of respondents — a fever seen 76 per cent and a dry cough which was reported by 66 per cent. “While it is important that ocular symptoms are included in the list of possible COVID-19 symptoms, we argue that sore eyes should replace ‘conjunctivitis’ as it is important to differentiate from symptoms of other types of infections, such as bacterial infections, which manifest as mucous discharge or gritty eyes,” Pardhan said. “This study is important because it helps us understand more about how COVID-19 can infect the conjunctiva and how this then allows the virus to spread through the body,” she added.
  8. Advisory panels of infectious disease experts this week will assess a vaccine developed by pharmaceutical company Pfizer and German biotech firm BioNTech -- a vaccine that Britain began administering to its most vulnerable citizens on Tuesday. The committees will then turn their attention next week to a second vaccine developed by Moderna. Approval of either or both vaccines will begin the largest vaccination effort ever undertaken. The transition from hazy lab science to a very real vaccine-laden needle raises many questions for Americans. But experts have some answers: When will the first Americans get their vaccines? U.S. Food and Drug Administration and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory committees will review the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine this week, and if the nod is given then the vaccine rollout could commence at startling speed, said Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of infectious disease with the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. "It could well be that the first people to get the vaccine could be within the next week or week and a half," Schaffner said. Because Operation Warp Speed paid manufacturers to start producing doses even as their vaccine candidates underwent clinical trials, there will be stockpiles of both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines that are ready to ship the second the green light is given, Schaffner said. Warp Speed paid Pfizer nearly $2 billion to manufacture and deliver 100 million doses, and Moderna received about $1.5 billion for 100 million doses of its vaccine. "We've stored a lot of vaccine already. It's one of the reasons we were able to move so quickly. We didn't wait until the trials were completed to start making and storing the vaccine," Schaffner said. Who's in charge of distributing the vaccine? Operation Warp Speed and the CDC will oversee national distribution of the vaccine, working in conjunction with the pharmaceutical companies, Schaffner said. However, each state's health department will identify the specific locations that will receive the vaccine prior to individuals receiving their inoculation, Schaffner said. Because the first two vaccines are based on highly fragile messenger RNA (mRNA), they need to be kept frozen at extremely low temperatures. "The Pfizer vaccine has to be kept so cold, almost minus 100 degrees Fahrenheit, in really deep freeze, otherwise it begins to degrade," Schaffner said. "It will be going to a relatively small number of institutions, usually hospitals, where they have the facilities to deal with that and they have personnel who can be trained to administer the vaccine." Upcoming vaccine candidates produced using more traditional methods are expected to be more hardy, and those likely will be distributed directly to pharmacies and the offices of participating physicians, Schaffner said. How quickly can the vaccine be produced? One advantage of the mRNA vaccines produced by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna is that they are fully lab-manufactured, said Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "It's a synthetic molecule. You just make it in the lab. You don't have to worry about growing it up in cells, as is true for more classic vaccines," Offit said. Because of this, Offit is hopeful that large amounts of these vaccines can be quickly churned out. "The Pfizer vaccine is a 30-microgram dose. A microgram is a millionth of a gram. You can make kilograms of this stuff," Offit said. However, there are 7.8 billion people in the world. Even with manufacturers working at a fast clip, it will take months to produce two doses for every adult on the planet. And the United States will have to wait in line with other nations competing for the same resource. Pfizer has told the Trump administration that, because other countries have rushed to buy up most of its supply, substantial additional doses above the 100 million the U.S. government purchased earlier this year will not be available to the United States until late June or July, the Washington Post reported Tuesday. Other vaccine candidates receiving approval in subsequent months could speed up efforts to immunize everyone, but at this point it's not clear how soon those will receive their turn at bat. U.S. officials expect to have about 40 million doses of vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna distributed by the end of the year -- just enough to immunize 20 million people with the two-dose vaccine, the Post said. Who will get the vaccine first, and in what order? The CDC has decided that health care workers and people working or living in long-term care facilities will be the first folks to get the COVID-19 vaccine. There are about 21 million health care workers and about 3 million people at long-term care facilities, so their inoculations will account for the first 48 million doses of the two-dose vaccine. It's not clear who will be next in line. The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) will meet in the coming weeks to make recommendations for the groups to be included in subsequent waves. The next phase of priority vaccinations could focus on essential workers such as educators, food and agriculture workers, utility workers, police, firefighters, corrections officers and transportation employees, according to a slideshow presented at the Dec. 1 meeting of the ACIP. This represents about 87 million people, and also would promote vaccination among minority communities that have been hit hard by the pandemic, the Post reported.
  9. In the summer, Microsoft revealed it would kill off defunct web browser Internet Explorer (IE), with plans for a phased termination brought to a close by mid-2021. In light of the announcement, Google has now confirmed that its Workspace product suite - which includes the likes of Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive etc. - will also abandon the much denigrated browser. As set out in a Google blog post, Workspace users will be required to upgrade to a supported browser before March 15 2021, in order to “avoid any possible disruptions in service such as degraded performance or security vulnerabilities”. Check out our list of the best productivity software around Office 365 vs Workspace: Which is the best office software? Here's our list of the best spreadsheet software right now Over the next few weeks, Google will begin to display banners for Google Workspace customers still using IE 11, reminding them of the need to switch. And admins are advised to set the upgrade process in motion immediately. Internet Explorer end-of-life Internet Explorer, which first hit the scene in 1995, has suffered an almighty fall from grace over the past decade. Ridiculed for speed issues and its clunky user interface, the browser was dropped in favor of newer, more feature-rich offerings. In a bid to claw back lost users, Microsoft has put all its energy behind its new flagship service, Edge. The arrival of the new Chromium-based browser earlier this year was the final nail in the Internet Explorer coffin. “Customers have been using IE 11 since 2013 when the online environment was much less sophisticated than the landscape today,” explained the firm. “Since then, open web standards and newer browsers - like the new Microsoft Edge - have enabled better, more innovative online experiences.” As part of the sunsetting process, Microsoft 365 applications will withdraw support for Internet Explorer over the coming months - and the same is now true of Google’s product suite too. To avoid complications that might arise as a result of the end of IE support, Google has advised users to switch to one of a handful of supported web browsers. Unsurprisingly, the company’s own Chrome browser sits at the top of the recommended list. Rival offerings Firefox, Safari and Edge, meanwhile, are said to “work well with Workspace”, but do not support offline access to Google products. 11. GTA Online has showcased a little more of its biggest ever update, The Cayo Perico Heist, which is scheduled to release from 15th December on the PlayStation 4. As the trailer teases, you can expect several new characters – and a few old ones as well – as you attempt to infiltrate an island off the shore of Los Santos, and pillage it for the “score of a lifetime”. “Anything goes on Cayo Perico, a private paradise that's home to the infamous El Rubio, the world’s preeminent narcotrafficker and supplier to the Madrazo family,” the blurb explains. “Cayo Perico is not only the nerve centre of El Rubio’s drug empire, but the island also plays host to his other great love: marathon dance parties on golden beaches, where everyone from jetsetters and heiresses to legendary music producers gather to rave until the sun comes up.” Rockstar says this is the largest GTA Online update to date, and in a first for the multiplayer mode, you’ll be able to enjoy it solo if you prefer. Of course, you can also play with three other friends – it’s up to you how you want to enjoy it. And remember, there’s a new underground nightclub opening beneath The Diamond Casino & Resort that you’ll be able to hang out at as well.

  15. Finn.auto — which allows people to subscribe to their car instead of owning it, and offsetting their CO₂ emissions — has raised a $24.2 million / €20 million Series A funding round. White Star Capital (which has also invested in Tier Mobility), and the Zalando co-CEOs Rubin Ritter, David Schneider and Robert Gentz, are new investors in this round. All previous investors participated. The funding comes just under a year since the company launched, after selling just 1,000 car subscriptions. It’s also partnered with Deutsche Post AG and Deutsche Telekom AG. A number of car manufacturers have launched similar subscription services powered by various providers, such as Drover, LeasePlan and Wagonex. U.K.-based startup Drover has raised a total of $40 million in funding over five rounds. Their latest Series B funding round was with Shell Ventures and Cherry Ventures . Plus, there are branded services which include Audi on Demand, BMW, Citroën, DS, Jaguar Carpe, Land Rover Carpe, Mini, Volkswagen and Care by Volvo. Digitally led subscription services have the potential to disrupt the traditional car sales model, and new startups are entering the market all the time. The finn.auto model is proving to appeal to environment-conscious millennials. For each car subscription, the company is offsetting the CO₂ emissions of its vehicles, meaning subscribers can drive their cars in a climate-neutral manner. It’s now expanding its range of fully electric vehicles and, in cooperation with ClimatePartner, is supporting selected regional climate protection and development projects. Key to the Munich-based startups’ play is the automation of fleet management processes and customer interactions, meaning it’s much easier and cheaper to run this kind of subscription operation. Max-Josef Meier, CEO and founder of finn.auto, said: “We are delighted to have been able to bring such high-caliber investors on board and that our existing investors are cementing their confidence with the current round. Mobility with your own car becomes as easy as buying shoes on the internet. We already offer a large selection of different car brands, whose cars can be ordered online on our platform in just five minutes and at flexible runtimes. The delivery is then conveniently made to the front door.” Nicholas Stocks, general partner at White Star Capital added: “There is a huge opportunity globally to streamline outdated customer experiences in the automotive retail space and become the Amazon of the automotive industry. This is something finn.auto is excellently placed to capitalize on with its offering of conven
  16. Rugby World Cup winner Steve Thompson and seven other former players claim the sport has left them with permanent brain damage - and are in the process of starting a claim against the game's authorities for negligence. Every member of the group has recently been diagnosed with the early signs of dementia, and they say repeated blows to the head are to blame. Thompson, 42, played in every England match when they won the 2003 World Cup, but says: "I can't remember any of those games. It's frightening." It is understood a letter of claim, amounting to millions of pounds in damages, will be sent next week to the governing bodies for English and Welsh rugby and World Rugby - and a group class action could follow. It is the first legal move of its kind in world rugby and, if successful, could force change to the way the game is played. Lawyers for the group suggest another 80 former players between the ages of 25 and 55 are showing symptoms and have serious concerns. World Rugby told BBC Sport: "While not commenting on speculation, World Rugby takes player safety very seriously and implements injury-prevention strategies based on the latest available knowledge, research and evidence." In response to reports that legal action was planned, the Rugby Football Union said it was "declining to comment" because it has "not had any formal or informal approaches, with any legal documents being served". The Welsh Rugby Union has also been approached for a response. 'I don't want to be a burden' - how a 41-year-old ex-international is dealing with early onset dementia World Cup memories have just gone - Thompson Former hooker Thompson played 195 times for Northampton Saints before moving to France to play for Brive. He won 73 England caps, and three for the British and Irish Lions, in a nine-year international career. He first retired in 2007 because of a serious neck injury but was given the all-clear to return, before being forced to retire again in December 2011 with the same problem. Thompson, former England team-mate Michael Lipman, ex-Wales international Alix Popham and five other retired players are the first group to agree to - and have - testing. Thompson says his condition is so progressed he cannot remember anything that happened in those 2003 World Cup games. "It's like I'm watching the game with England playing and I can see me there - but I wasn't there, because it's not me," he said. "It's just bizarre. People talk about stories, and since the World Cup I've talked to the lads that were there, and you pick up stories, and then you can talk about it, but it's not me being there, it's not me doing it, because it's just gone." Thompson is convinced constant head knocks during matches and training are to blame. "When we first started going full-time in the mid-1990s, training sessions could quickly turn into full contact," he said. "There was one session when the scrummaging hadn't gone quite right and they made us do a hundred live scrums. When it comes to it, we were like a bit of meat, really. "The whole point of us doing this is to look after the young players coming through. I don't want rugby to stop. It's been able to give us so much, but we just want to make it safer. It can finish so quickly, and suddenly you've got your whole life in front of you." Thompson, who has four children, is frank about his fears for the future and open about some dark thoughts. "When you are there alone, the number of times you just think to yourself it's probably easier if you go, if I'm not here," he said. "You start to think, it's not right to put them through that. That's the difficult side to it." What is CTE & how can it be diagnosed? All eight players to have come forward so far have been diagnosed by neurologists at King's College, London, with early onset dementia and probable Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). CTE is the disease discovered by Dr Bennet Omalu in American football player Mike Webster, and the subject of the film Concussion starring Will Smith. In 2011, a group of former American football players started a class action against the NFL and won a settlement worth about $1bn (£700m). CTE can develop when the brain is subjected to numerous small blows or rapid movements - sometimes known as sub-concussions - and is associated with symptoms such as memory loss, depression and progressive dementia. The disease can only be diagnosed in a brain after death, but some experts believe if history of exposure is evaluated, it is reasonable to conclude that the risk increases. The embryonic nature of the science around the issue could play a key part in the success or failure of the overall case. It has been found in the brains of dozens of former NFL players, as well as a handful of deceased footballers, including former West Bromwich Albion and England player Jeff Astle. A re-examination of his brain in 2014 found he had died from CTE. Sub-concussions cannot be detected on the pitch or in any post-match examination. Dr Ann McKee, from Boston University, is the leading neurologist in CTE and was instrumental in bringing about change in the NFL. She and others have faced scepticism within sport, from those who believe more research is needed before further changes are introduced. "There's clearly a problem," she told the BBC. "We don't know the magnitude of the problem, but as long as we insist that there is no problem, we'll never get to the bottom of it. "We're just denying it and prolonging it and making sure that as many rugby players as possible get CTE." So how could the claim be proved? If the case progresses to court, the group must prove the governing bodies have been guilty of negligence. Richard Boardman, from law firm Rylands, is leading the action. "We are now in a position where we believe the governing bodies across the rugby world are liable for failing to adequately protect their players on this particular issue," he said. "Depending on how many people come forward, the case could be worth tens of millions, maybe even hundreds of millions. "Right now we're representing over 100 former players but we expect many more to get in contact." Dr Willie Stewart, who with his team at Glasgow University has been leading research around dementia in football, is confident there is an issue in rugby union. "There is no question if you look at the data across all the sports in all the regions whether they be football, rugby, American football, I've looked at brains from people from all these different sports. "The difficulty we have is gathering enough experience from former rugby players to be able to say with certainty, but I think you would be foolish to ignore it. " The issue of concussion in sport has been debated extensively over the past few years. The links between heading a football and degenerative brain disease have even forced rule changes at youth level. In England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, children aged 11 and under are no longer allowed to head the ball in training. There are also limits to heading frequency at higher age group levels. At senior level, former professionals have called for more research and better player welfare after the recent death of England World Cup winner Nobby Stiles, and following the news that Stiles' 1966 team-mate and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton is suffering from the disease. More information about dementia and details of organisations that can help can be found here.

  18. A former Israeli space security chief has sent eyebrows shooting heavenward by saying that earthlings have been in contact with extraterrestrials from a "galactic federation." "The Unidentified Flying Objects have asked not to publish that they are here, humanity is not ready yet," Haim Eshed, former head of Israel's Defense Ministry's space directorate, told Israel's Yediot Aharonot newspaper. The interview in Hebrew ran on Friday, and gained traction after parts were published in English by the Jerusalem Post on Tuesday. A respected professor and retired general, Eshed said the aliens were equally curious about humanity and were seeking to understand "the fabric of the universe." Eshed said cooperation agreements had been signed between species, including an "underground base in the depths of Mars" where there are American astronauts and alien representatives. "There is an agreement between the U.S. government and the aliens. They signed a contract with us to do experiments here," he said. Eshed added that President Donald Trump was aware of the extraterrestrials' existence and had been "on the verge of revealing" information but was asked not to in order to prevent "mass hysteria." "They have been waiting until today for humanity to develop and reach a stage where we will understand, in general, what space and spaceships are," Eshed said, referring to the galactic federation. The White House, Department of Defense and Israeli officials did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment. Eshed's ideas are spelled out in more detail in "The Universe Beyond the Horizon — conversations with Professor Haim Eshed" by Hagar Yanai published in November. Eshed, who oversaw the launch of numerous Israeli satellites into space, said he was only speaking out now because attitudes were changing and people seemed more receptive. "If I had come up with what I'm saying today five years ago, I would have been hospitalized," he told Yediot. "Today, they're already talking differently. I have nothing to lose. I've received my degrees and awards, I am respected in universities abroad." In May, Trump said, "Space is going to be the future, both in terms of defense and offense ... we're now the leader on space," as he was presented with the official flag of a newly created military branch, Space Force. Its focus, along with a Space Command, is on space as a military domain for the U.S., preserving satellites and communications and a focus on geo-politics in new terrain. The comment immediately spawned jokes and theories online. At least half-a-dozen accounts have been created on Twitter claiming to be representatives to earth from the "Galactic Federation." Others users have asked for preferential treatment and meetings with the group.
  19. Microsoft Teams has a host of new updates coming this month, many of which are focused on delivering improvements for smartphone users. Although the majority of Teams users will experience the platform on their PCs or laptops, the rise of remote working has also involved many employees working from their smartphones, meaning that Microsoft has had to improve the user experience for individuals that prefer the smaller screen. Perhaps the most noteworthy new feature is that Teams phones now support a new video layout, including a 3x3 gallery view. Using the 3x3 layout, users can see up to nine meeting participants at any one time. Larger meetings can employ a bigger gallery view that shows up to 49 participants, although that doesn’t sound particularly great unless your phone is incredibly large. Check out our list of the best video conferencing software Here's our list of the best collaboration tools around Here's our list of the best productivity tools out there Teams on the small screen Other new additions for phone users of Microsoft Teams include a new Together Mode where participants are transported to a virtual shared space. Background blurring is also provided to help participants remove distractions from their video calls. In addition, for more spontaneous moments of collaboration, phone users will now be able to select ‘Meet Now’ – a new instant meeting feature. And screen sharing will be made available for certain touch screen audio phones that meet the minimum hardware requirements. Other new features include spotlighting a particular video and a request to speak feature for when participants have been muted. With the video conferencing space becoming increasingly competitive as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Microsoft Teams is clearly working hard to outdo its competitors in the smartphone space. “The Teams devices portfolio strives to give users options based on the space they use for work, the kind of collaboration they engage in, and their personal preferences for when and how they choose to get things done,” the Microsoft “We are constantly working to provide an intuitive and familiar experience for Teams on every device type, and this means carrying over the great features we have for meetings and calling into the phone experience as well.” We've also built a list of the best business webcams right now
  20. NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3060 & RTX 3050 graphics cards have been spotted at EEC which were submitted by MANLI and spotted by Komachi. The four graphics cards are expected to launch in January 2021 with the Ti variants offering improved specifications over the existing non-TI variants and the RTX 3060, 3050 bringing more mainstream budget options to consumers. NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3060 & GeForce RTX 3050 Submitted To The EEC By MANLI, Launch Expected Next Year All four graphics cards are nothing new and we have seen them in leaks before. Now the listing of these models doesn't necessarily mean that they are confirmed but it looks like MANLI is getting ready for the lineup which launches next year in 2021. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 'Rumored' Graphics Card Specifications Details from Kopite7kimi suggest that the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti FE (Founders Edition) graphics card will feature the PG133-SKU15 PCB design and the GA102-250-KD-A1 graphics core. The GA102-250 GPU has also changed since the last time we saw them and is now exactly the same as the GeForce RTX 3090 at 10496 FP32 CUDA coresAs for memory, the card will feature 20 GB of GDDR6X memory. Unlike the 19.5 Gbps speeds of the RTX 3090, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is said to retain the same memory speeds as the RTX 3080 at 19 Gbps. Since we are getting a 20 GB bus interface, NVIDIA will be using a 320-bit bus interface which equals a total bandwidth of 760 GB/s. TGP for the card is set to be the same as the RTX 3080 at 320 Watts. That's definitely needed to feed the extra cores so NVIDIA might have to optimize the clocks a bit here. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 'Rumored' Graphics Card Specifications The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti on the other hand is expected to feature the GA102-150-A1 GPU. The graphics card is also going to feature the GA102 GPU which will be a huge upgrade from GA104 that the standard offering would feature. The GA102 GPU should also result in higher power input which should directly affect its TGP. According to Kopite7kimi, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will utilize the PG132-SKU35 board which is different than the previous SKU that the graphics card was going to be based upon. The GPU will feature 7424 CUDA cores or 58 SMs. These are 26% more CUDA cores than the GeForce RTX 3070 and around 9% lower cores than the GeForce RTX 3080. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 'Rumored' Graphics Card Specifications The GeForce RTX 3060 is suggested to feature the GA106-400 GPU which is expected to feature 3840 FP32 cores in a total of 30 SM units. The graphics card will make use of the PG190 SKU by board partners which are both GA104 and GA106 pin-compatible. The graphics card has seen a range of memory specs update starting with 6 GB (14 Gbps) and now listed at 12 GB (16 Gbps). It is rumored that the card will feature a massive 12 GB memory buffer which is larger than that of the RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070, and even the RTX 3080. This is not confirmed yet but the reason could be that NVIDIA wants to really tackle AMD in the mainstream segment. Again, we saw rumors of 20 GB and 16 GB for the RTX 3080 & RTX 3070 too which didn't end up being true as they were early designs that were later on canceled. The card will feature a 192-bit bus interface and at 16 Gbps, delivering bandwidth of up to 384 GB/s. The GeForce RTX 3060 could end up being priced at $299 US which will make it a formidable graphics card that offers performance close to the RTX 2080 but with much higher memory capacity. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti 'Rumored' Graphics Card Specifications Just like the GeForce RTX 3060, the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti will also be featuring the GA106 GPU but a cut-down GA106-300 configuration. The card is expected to be based on the PG190 SKU 60 board which is different than the 40/50 variant that the RTX 3060 will utilize. The GPU is expected to come with 3584 FP32 cores in a total of 28 SM units. The GeForce RTX 3050 Ti is surprisingly going to feature a 6 GB GDDR6 memory interface too which is a big upgrade over its 4 GB predecessors. This suggests a 192-bit bus interface and we can also expect similar bandwidth numbers from the card if it ends up utilizing 16 Gbps memory dies. The green team could save some production costs and go for 14 Gbps memory dies here too. As for the pricing, the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti could launch around the $199-$249 US range. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 'Rumored' Graphics Card Specifications The GeForce RTX 3050 is suggested to feature the GA107-300 GPU which seems to be the most entry-level Ampere GPU at this point in desktop graphics cards. Only time will tell if we will see something even lower-end like the GA108 GPU but the RTX 3050 leaves little room for that. The card is expected to feature 2304 FP32 cores in a total of 18 SM units and is suggested to feature a 90W TGP.This would mean that the GeForce RTX 3050 will require an external 6-pin connector to boot unlike its predecessor, the GeForce GTX 1650, which conformed to a 75W TGP and didn't require any plug to boot in several custom variants. The GeForce RTX 3050 should feature a 128-bit bus interface & up to 4 GB of GDDR6 memory. We are likely to see speeds of 14 Gbps on the card but that remains to be confirmed. In terms of pricing, the GeForce RTX 3050 is expected to carry a sub-$200 US price of around $149 US.Once again, these are rumored specifications and these might change given how NVIDIA reacts to the upcoming AMD RDNA 2 'Radeon RX 6000' series announcements. The AMD Radeon RX 6700 series graphics cards are planned for a January 2021 launch too and we already know what they are going to look like and the specifications they will offer so it's going to be a heated winter this time in the mainstream graphics card segment.
  21. Ubisoft has made the difficult decision to delay Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake past its original release date next month to 18th March 2021. Currently planned for release on PlayStation 4 (playable on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility), the push back allows the developer to "ensure we deliver a game you enjoy". The remake has been widely criticised for not exactly looking the part with a poor selection of screenshots released upon its reveal. The publisher's statement reads: "We are excited to be able to put this game in your hands again as we retell the story of Prince and Farah in the amazing 11th century Persia. However, 2020 was a year like no other. Today we would like to inform you that we need more time to complete the game. With that, the release date of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been moved to March 18, 2021. We believe this is the right decision to ensure we deliver a game you enjoy. Thank you for your patience and continued support of the Prince of Persia, and we hope you remain safe and healthy during this holiday season." Let's hope this delay allows the development team to get the project in a much better shape. Have you been looking forward to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake? 23. Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) is moving closer to getting linked with six other top bourses in Africa with purchase of key software that will facilitate the linkage. The African Exchanges Linkage Project (AELP), which is driving the agenda, mid-last month opened bid for an order routing platform that will be crucial for seamless cross-border trading. “The selected IT firms that are invited to bid had earlier prequalified through a widely advertised request for expression of interest process which attracted applications from top firms across 18 countries,” said the African Securities Exchanges Association (Asea). “The AELP link technology platform will channel client orders from a stockbroker on one participating Exchange to a stockbroker on another Exchange, where it will be executed.” AELP is a joint initiative of Asea and the African Development Bank (AfDB). Currently, one can trade across the border but the process is cumbersome since it involves appointing a broker in the other country and routing of orders must happen in that particular country. Order routing is the process by which an order goes from the end-user to an exchange. The order may go directly to the exchange from the customer or go first to a broker who then routes it to the exchange. The participating exchanges include NSE, Casablanca Stock Exchange, The Egyptian Exchange, Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), The Nigerian Stock Exchange, the Stock Exchange of Mauritius and BRVM, which is a regional bourse for eight West African countries. The seven stock exchanges have a market capitalisation of about Sh132.5 trillion ($1.21 trillion), which JSE being the largest. AELP says it is keen on procuring an order-routing solution that is already working and then customise it for the participating exchanges and stockbrokers. NSE chief executive Geoffrey Odundo said they hope to realise the project next year and stimulate cross-border trading of securities across the participating Exchanges. “All the discussions around how the market players will connect is almost complete. The next step will be to connect the pilot Exchanges,” said Mr Odundo. The development comes at a time Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania have linked their Exchanges.
  24. Every gift guide you'll find this year will have a huge number of headsets, keyboards, mice, and other accessories for a gamer of every age and platform preference. We wanted to take a moment to look at some gifts that will truly be something that a gamer never knew they wanted! There's a lot of RGB-enabled stuff on this year's gift guide but with so many gamers shifting into online streaming, they certainly could use some decorations to spice up their streaming backdrops! Chances are, the gamer you're shopping for already has a headset in mind for their console of choice (and if not, definitely check out our gift guide for 5 perfect headsets!). One gift they certainly won't be expecting is a pair of shoes that can link together with their music and gaming for a whole body sensory experience. The Droplabs EP01 are a fantastic pair of shoes with embedded speakers that react in sync with whatever you're listening to, whether you're listening to music, watching a Michael Bay film or playing a game on the go. These sync together with any Bluetooth 4.2 capable device, or with an optional $24 Low-Latency Sync Cable, can be hooked up in line with anything that offers a 3.5mm cable. With compatibility with most VR headsets, both next-gen consoles, and so much more, the possibilities are endless.Move over 5G, 6G is the new must-have tech addition for gamers. Depending on where you live in the world, winter will soon be approaching and that means you're going to need some way to stay warm when your hot streak starts coming to an end. As the winter months are starting to roll in here in Ohio, I've been using the Selk'bag Lite 6G for a few weeks and despite looking like the strange crossbreed between a sauna suit and a Snuggie, it's been insanely comfortable to just lounge around and get some late night Black Ops matches in. If the world was in the right state for midnight launches for the new consoles, this is the kind of outfit I'd wear to make it through the cold hours. It even comes with removeable booties if you want to wear the Selk'bag Lite 6G around the house and not get cold feet! Razer Kraken BT Kitty Edition Razer's mantra of installing RGB on every device they make certainly hasn't missed their line of headsets. Their Kraken headsets for PC were a huge hit when they launched with online influencers and they even released a set of clip-on cat ears to accessorize the po[CENSORED]r gaming headset. Now, Razer has combined their love for pink cats and RGB together in a unique headset that puts those cheap Brookstone models to shame. The Razer Kraken BT edition headset is a comfortable Bluetooth gaming headset that features two internal beamforming mics for clear voice chat on streams as well as up to 50 hours of battery life (20+ if you opt to leave the RGB lighting on for the cat ears and earcups). The headset also features a low latency gaming mode if mobile gaming is your passion and you don't want to miss an enemy sneaking up on you. Twinkly Smart Decorations Continuing the trend of RGB lighting for gamers, Twinkly has recently launched a set of sound-reactive curtain lights that can make for a great backdrop for Twitch streams or even around the house for those small group get-togethers this Holiday season. The new Twinkly Music USB dongle can even take any music source and provide a reactive backdrop to your holiday parties or Twitch streams. With Razer Chroma RGB integration, the Twinkly suite of smart lighting can loop in together with your Chroma-enabled keyboards, mice, and even those RGB Kraken BT Kitty headphones above. Corsair iCue LT100 If the gamer in your life can spare some extra desk space and wants to turn their whole gaming setup into an audio-visual centerpiece, Logitech has some mood lighting that's perfect for the occasion. The iCue LT100 smart lighting towers can be placed anywhere and link up to four towers together for some awesome ambient lighting. Each tower comes with 46 addressable RGB LEDs that can synchronize with the whole computer system via the iCue software, react to audio, and even extend beyond what's happening onscreen either beside the display or behind it for bias lighting. The $129.99 starter kit comes with everything you need to set up two LT100 towers while additional expansion towers can be purchased for $59.99 each. Garmin Instinct Esports Watch Normally I wouldn't consider a watch to be gaming gear unless it can do something unique when it comes to gaming. Many modern smartwatches offer biometric readouts to analyze your heart rate and stress but they typically don't give you an easy way to access that information especially if you're in the middle of a high stakes Warzone match. Garmin's Esports edition of the Instinct line of smartwatches remedies that with the inclusion of their STR3EAMUP! software. Through integration with OBS and other streaming software, gamers can add in their stress level, heart rate, and other biometric data into their online streams and even trigger events and overlays if their stress reaches a certain point. The Esports features aren't limited to just streaming either; gamers can use the various biometric trackers to analyze their training routines (including real workout routines and not just some CoD bot matches) to train smarter, not harder. When all else fails, a gift card for Steam, PlayStation Network, Nintendo eShop or the Microsoft Store all make excellent stocking stuffers when you know what console the gamer in your life plays on but don't want to accidentally purchase them the wrong version of Call of Duty.
