(CNN) - Tesla reduced the price of its cheapest car, Model 3, by 1,100 dollars, bringing the new base price to 42,900 dollars.
It's still from the $ 35,000 announced by Tesla's chief executive, Elon Musk, when Model 3 was introduced in 2016. Anyway, Musk boasted on Twitter that the luxury sedan now really costs $ 35,000 if we take into account the money that drivers will save on fuel
Asked by a Twitter user about the promised purchase price, Musk replied: "We are doing everything we can to get there. It is a very difficult job."
This is the second time Tesla has lowered prices in recent weeks. Earlier this year, Tesla announced to $ 2,000 cut in all of its models to make up for the partial loss of federal income tax credits on Tesla's electric vehicles. The tax cut began to be phased out this year for the Teslas after the automaker reached the limit of 200,000 vehicles to have that incentive at the end of last year. The credit, which is phased out gradually, was cut in half, from $ 7,500 to $ 3,750, effective January 1. It will be halved again in July.
Tesla recently announced jobs to save money amid cuts in the prices of its products.
This last price drop occurs after Tesla completed its client recommendation program on February 2. Under that program, Tesla owners could win prizes by referring new customers to the brand. Depending on the number of people referred, the prizes included cash, Tesla Semi-races on a test track, handling of a tunnel excavator at the company or discounts on a new Tesla Roadster.
Musk has said recently that he has been able to produce Model 3 for 35,000 in the coming months. Meanwhile, the company is also close to presenting its new product, model And, which will be based on Model 3 engineering.
