    Hello All

Welcome to CSBD HF & GL
  10. Here's something I recently discovered: you can buy an off-road package for your Audi Q5. I'm serious. It gives you different wheels and tires from a standard Q5, along with what Audi calls an "Audi Exclusive Offroad Body Kit," which you see above. This has to be one of the most unusual options available on a vehicle today. We'll start with the obvious: Yes, this option is available in the United States. Ignore the German license plate on the car pictured above. In fact, I'm writing this solely because I saw one of these things on the road, and I realized I needed to share this wonderful information with the Oversteerage. The only reason I'm not showing a picture of one here in the U.S. is because this option is so undesirable that it's difficult to actually find any pictures. So let's discuss the option. It has the special wheels and tires, as I've mentioned, and the "exclusive offroad bodykit." The body kit includes what Audi calls "wheel arch protectors" -- four gray plastic circles that go over the wheels and, to me, make the car look like some sort of $19,000 Volkswagen Tiguan lease special. I generally like gray plastic on the bottom of cars, but this car was not designed for gray plastic. And it shows. Amazingly, Audi charges $950 for this option, which explains why most people haven't "opted" for it. The really amazing thing, though, is that Audi openly calls this option the "Offroad Style Package." Not the actual off-road package, but the off-road style package -- so at least they're truthful. This gives you something of an off-road look, like a jacked-up allroad, but it doesn't actually take you off-road. For that, you'll need to do something else. Of course, Audi knows you'll never do that, and they know the mere appearance of off-roadiness will suffice for every single person who wants their Q5 to look like a trail-tackling 4-wheeler. All ten of them.

  14. What Is It? The Honda Sports EV Concept is a battery-powered sports car with, apparently, artificial intelligence. In other words, it's one way of negotiating the tricky and unpredictable terrain known as the future of motoring. Electric cars are going to be more common -- that's just the way everything seems to be heading. They're going to have bigger and better computing power to keep up with safety considerations, car-sharing schemes and whatever else the destiny of personal transportation may demand. And somewhere among all that, the person behind the wheel might like to have a little fun from time to time. It looks like this Sports EV could succeed in various ways if it ever became a production car. Especially since Honda has paid attention to achieving a low center of gravity for optimum dynamics. Will They Ever Sell It? At the Frankfurt show earlier this fall, Honda displayed an Urban EV concept, a subcompact hatchback with clean, simple lines similar to the Sport EV. The company has said a small electric vehicle based on this idea is going to be made for the European market, with a launch date of some time in 2019. But there's no word yet if the Sport EV, which is based on the same platform, will follow suit. Why It's Important A car company has to have a vision of what's down the road and ideas to meet the challenges. The Honda Sports EV Concept is part of a larger plan to have around 60 percent of its output feature some degree of electrification by the time the year 2030 rolls around.
  15. Twitter is banning two of Russia's biggest media outlets from buying advertising amid fears they attempted to interfere with the 2016 US election. The ban on advertising from Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik, and all linked accounts, was "effective immediately". US authorities say both act as "a platform for Kremlin messaging". The social media giant will donate an estimated $1.9m (£1.4m) made from the outlets into research on Twitter's use in "civic engagement and elections". Twitter promises more ad transparency Twitter said the decision "was based on the retrospective work we've been doing around the 2016 US election and the US intelligence community's conclusion that both RT and Sputnik attempted to interfere with the election on behalf of the Russian government". The statement, published on the social media platform's blog, continued: "We did not come to this decision lightly, and are taking this step now as part of our ongoing commitment to help protect the integrity of the user experience on Twitter." The decision has provoked an angry response in Russia, with the country's foreign ministry accusing Twitter of bowing to pressure from the US intelligence services, saying the move was "another aggressive step" aimed at blocking Russian media in the US.
