  2. Microsoft has broken something else with an update – this appears to be becoming a bad habit of late – and this time it’s Windows Defender, although the problem has now been fixed according to the software giant. So what is this issue, exactly? Well, an update for Windows Defender which fixed a previous bug has (once again) triggered unforeseen repercussions, in this case, causing Microsoft’s built-in antivirus solution to fail when it comes to the most commonly used scans. You won’t find a cheaper Windows 10 PC than this anywhere Buy Windows 10: the cheapest prices in August 2019 The best antivirus software of 2019 Specifically, both Full and Quick virus scans don’t work properly, with Windows Defender only scanning around 40 files before stopping (so effectively not doing its job at all). This is a pitifully poor situation for a security app, of course, although the slight caveat is that custom scans with Windows Defender appear to be unaffected. Bleeping Computer reported on this issue, and a raft of different threads with users complaining about the problem on Reddit and the forum, with the tech site noting that Microsoft has now concocted a fix for the problem. Update (again) now The fix has been delivered as ‘Security Intelligence Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.301.1684.0)’, so you need to make sure you’ve patched that particular update for Microsoft’s antivirus solution to work properly. Windows may have grabbed that update for you automatically already, but if not, you can get it manually: in Windows 10, head to the ‘Windows Security’ screen (search for it in the hopefully-not-broken search box in the Taskbar), then select ‘Virus & threat protection’. You can ‘Check for updates’ for Windows Defender here, and grab that latest one. Microsoft made sure to clarify that the problem didn’t affect Windows Defender’s real-time protection, and only interfered with the aforementioned virus scanning functionality. Still, this is obviously a very embarrassing incident for the company, and something of a blight on Windows Defender’s growing reputation as a sterling security solution (with one independent testing lab recently rating the app as one of the best antivirus solutions around).
  3. Well, finally it’s the time for a new computer, you chose a good processor, a good GPU but you don’t know what motherboard to buy, then you’ve come to the right place. Motherboard is the most important computer component, without it you can’t build the computer of your dreams, every cable or fan you plug into the motherboard. You also need to watch out if the motherboard is compatible with your CPU or RAM. Watch out for the socket! The most important thing you need to check is that motherboard socket is right for your chosen CPU. You can check what socket the CPU requires on Intel’s or AMD’s web page. For example, Intel’s most po[CENSORED]r socket is LGA1151 and AMD, on their newest processors, uses AM4 socket. Compatible RAM with motherboard! Make sure that the RAM is compatible with the motherboard and how many RAM slots does the motherboard have. If you have DDR4 RAM, then you must buy a motherboard that supports DDR4 RAM or if you have DDR3 RAM you need to buy DDR3 motherboard. Smaller motherboards tend to have two slots for RAM, but bigger and more expensive motherboards have up to eight or more RAM slots. For video games 16GB is most ideal RAM amount, you don’t need more than that. Motherboard sizes Three most common motherboard sizes are ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX motherboards. ATX motherboard is the biggest of the three and offers most RAM and expansion slots. It is also the most expensive of the three but for modern gaming this is the motherboard you want. The other two motherboards are smaller and have less slots but are good motherboards if you want a cheap computer. With the smaller motherboards you can also buy smaller and cheaper cases. Motherboard ports This varies from person to person depending what ports they use at most. Someone wants more USB 3 ports others want more audio ports. Always check how many ports does a motherboard have. There are USB 3, USB 2, audio, USB type C, USB 3.1 Gen1 and Gen2, HDMI, Display port, PS/2 and Thunderbolt 3 ports. Ports you probably want the most are the USB 3 and USB 2 ports. USB 3.1 Gen2 and USB type C ports are good to have for the near future but for now not many peripherals support this standard yet. Motherboard chipsets For Intel motherboards you can choose from the cheaper motherboards that can’t be overclocked or the more expensive ones that can. The ones that can be overclocked are the ones that have the letter “Z” in the chipset name e.g. Z370, Z170-A, Z77, Z87… Motherboards with chipsets with letters “B”, “H”, “Q” … are not overclockable motherboards. Also, if you want to overclock your processor you must be sure that your processors name ends with the letter “K” because that is Intel’s unlocked version of processors or if you are a real enthusiast the “X” series processors and motherboards will also support overclocking (X stands for extreme edition). On the AMD’s side the B350 and B300 chipsets still support overclocking. But with that you will get less ports over the X370 motherboard. Price range With everything said how much to spend on a motherboard? It all depends on what you want. In the price range up to 100$ you can get AMD boards that supports overclocking. But on the Intel’s side you can’t buy a motherboard that supports overclocking in that price range. But you can find Z370 board for just over 100$ 100$-150$ price range. Here you can get higher-end AMD motherboards and lower-end Intel motherboards that can be used for overclocking. 150$-200$ price range. Here are the more premium motherboards with RGB lights and with a more premium look. Better heatsinks, VRMs (voltage regulation modules) – very important for serious overclocking. You will also find motherboards with more ports. 200$+ price range. This are the board for extreme overclocking and board for CPUs like Intel Core X and AMD Threadripper. These boards have a stylish premium look with giant heatsinks.

  10. Mozilla earlier this month quietly outlined paid support for enterprise users of Firefox, but last week scrubbed the reference from its website, saying that it is "still exploring that option." The offering - labeled "Mozilla Enterprise Client Support" - was to start at $10 per "supported installation," which likely referred to per-device, not per-user, pricing. It's unclear whether that was an annual or monthly fee, and Mozilla declined to say which it was when asked. In return for the fee, Mozilla said on the now-absent Firefox enterprise site - still visible through the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine - customers would be able to privately report bugs via a new web portal and receive fixes on a timeline dependent on the impact and urgency of the problem. Customers would also be able to file requests for help with Firefox's installation and deployment, management policies, functionality and customization. [ Related: Get serious about privacy with the Epic, Brave and Tor browsers ] Support customers were to have an inside track on feature requests - although Mozilla said it would not commit to delivering said features - and Mozilla would provide them with "proactive notification on critical Firefox events," although the company did not describe what that would entail. A detailed service level agreement (SLA) for Mozilla Enterprise Client Support published on the firm's website included everything from how support requests would be escalated and the targeted response times. Other information, including pricing, required customers to reach out to Mozilla's sales staff. Whoops! Really? But on Monday, Mozilla said it was all premature. [ Become a Microsoft Office 365 administrator in record time with this quick start course from PluralSight. ] "We work in the open, so often ideas under consideration are made public before we've committed fully to their pursuit," a Mozilla spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "The page outlining that these paid support services for enterprise clients will be available was posted incorrectly." But the spokesperson did not dispute that Mozilla might get around to selling support. Firefox's enterprise roadmap "could eventually include additional paid support down the line," Mozilla said, "but we're still exploring that option. "As we continue to improve our enterprise offerings, we will share more details about what those services will entail," the spokesperson said. It was hard to see the posting of the paid support information as an accident. According to the WayBack Machine's archives, the description of Mozilla Enterprise Client Support first appeared on the site on Sept. 4. It was still there on Sept. 11, a week later, a long time for a mistake to go unnoticed or uncorrected. Meanwhile, the program's SLA remained untouched. On Sept. 12, Martin Brinkman of Ghacks broke the news of Firefox paid support. By the next day, Sept. 13, the particulars had been expunged from Mozilla's site. Almost certainly, Mozilla scotched the text after Brinkman's story drew attention to the program. Elsewhere, Mozilla referred to the program as an "initial pilot," signaling that it has been, or would be, tested with some customers before being rolled out to all comers. Money maker? Or money pit? It would not be a surprise if - or when - Mozilla asks enterprises to pony up for better support. It's not as if other developers don't charge for support that goes above and beyond what's available for free to the general public. It might also be new revenue for Mozilla, which for years has cast about for ways to make money other than to sell the search engine default to companies like Google and Yahoo. (Although historically, software support often ends up as a cost center that doesn't generate much if any revenue.) Just as important, paid support could help Mozilla position Firefox as an alternative to Chrome - and to Microsoft's Chromium-built Edge as well - in the enterprise. Manageability is important to corporate IT, but so is access to immediate support when mission-critical tools go south. In many ways, enterprise support is a box that needs to be checked for a developer to be seen as serious about the market, whether a large number of customers pay for such support or not. Questions remain about Mozilla's plans, though. Will Mozilla Enterprise Client Support apply to the rapidly-updated Firefox - the one consumers use - as well as Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR), the build which upgrades about once a year? Or only the business-grade latter? How will paid support integrate with other for-a-fee services that Mozilla plans, or does it need to? And importantly, will enterprises even pay for browser support?
  11. The term bottleneck is everywhere when we’re talking about PC gaming performance, a bottleneck occurs when there is a restrictive element holding back the performance that could otherwise be achieved. If you’re just getting started with planning your first PC build this might be a hard concept to grasp and that’s why this bottlenecking explanation is very important. When you are dealing with bottlenecks it is important to know why one would happen, how to find them and most importantly how to avoid them. The name “bottleneck” comes from the way that fluid flows much slower through the neck of a bottle than it would if that neck didn’t exist, hence another word for a bottleneck is a choke point. For example let’s turn a bottle full of water upside down and open the lid, the water is flowing out of the bottle but only at a rate at which the bottle opening will allow, the wider the opening is the faster the water will flow out of the bottle and the smaller the opening is the water will flow a lot slower. Imagine that instead of water we have frames and these frames are being displayed onto your monitor, displaying the frames is of course your PC but let’s stick with the concept of a bottle for now. The opening of the bottle can represent any component in your system that may restrict the number of frames that could potentially be displayed. The easiest way to explain this is as if you take a very old computer and assuming it’s even compatible you put the very latest thousand dollar graphics card in it the PC. The PC is not going to slow down and the gaming performance will most probably be improved but that card won’t reach it’s highest potential even though the new card might be ten times faster than the old one. Depending on the bottleneck you may only get a small performance increase because the CPU, memory and potentially other components are so slow that they can’t feed the graphics card data at a fast enough rate to keep it busy. CPU BOTTLENECK The most common bottleneck that you’ll see in PC gaming is a CPU bottleneck, meaning that your CPU will be restricting the potential number of frames being drawn from your GPU. The simplest explanation for how this happens is that your CPU is just not powerful enough to keep up with your GPU but let’s dive a little deeper and take a look at what’s really going on. Let’s say that we have a game being rendered at 60 frames per second which is equal to one frame every 16.67 milliseconds. The CPU in addition to many other tasks has to prepare sending a draw call to the GPU which means it is sending some data such as texture and shaders whilst also rendering objects and buffers on the next frame which is to be rendered. The GPU renders this frame and it’s then displayed on to your monitor when it receives the next frame which is to be rendered and while that’s rendering the CPU is already on the next frame for the GPU so here we have no bottleneck and that’s because the CPU is preparing the frames faster than the GPU can render them. As mentioned earlier, in case the CPU is on the weaker side then the GPU will be rendering frames faster than the CPU can prepare them and this right here is the bottleneck. Your GPU could be utilized 100% if your CPU was more powerful but in this case it spends some time idling and not rendering frames because of this bottleneck situation. Let’s say a GPU can render frames every 16.67 milliseconds, but the CPU needs 25 milliseconds to prepare them, now in this 25 millisecond duration the CPU is doing a lot of work in addition to preparing the frame data for the GPU it also needs to process other things such as any AI game logic physics and of course any other background tasks that may be occurring in other programs. All these tasks increase load on the CPU and can therefore increase the amount of time that it takes to send a draw call to the GPU. Essentially, this is why some games are more CPU intensive than others, such as Battlefield 1 which is quite CPU intensive seeing as there is a lot of network data, game logic and physics to handle whereas riding your horse through a forest in Witcher 3 is a lot less CPU intensive. GPU BOTTLENECK Despite CPU bottlenecks being a bad thing when it comes to gaming, a GPU bottleneck is actually desirable. Essentially what this means is that your CPU is processing all of the game and frame data faster than your GPU can render it which results in 100% utilization of your GPU. At first this sounds bad, but because the GPU is what renders and displays the frames to your monitor in the first place and the fact that it’s rendering 100% of the frames that it possibly can is a good thing and it’s exactly what you want when you’re gaming. BOTTLENECK REDUCTION TIPS There are of course a few things that can reduce CPU bottlenecking in your system and improve GPU utilization in gaming if it isn’t at 100% and the first and most obvious one is to close any unnecessary background programs that you have open. By doing this you’ll be able to reduce the load on your CPU and hence process game data a lot faster, this also means that those draw calls that we were talking about earlier will now be sent faster by the CPU as it’s now under less total load and this means that your GPU won’t be waiting around as long for draw calls. Another quick tip is to overclock your CPU if possible because it’ll be able to process the game data a lot quicker which in turn means higher GPU utilization. To test for bottlenecks you should refer to our PC bottleneck calculator, in case you find out that your rig is being bottlenecked it may be time to upgrade the outdated parts.

  13. Paris St-Germain forward Neymar's three-game European ban for insulting match officials has been cut to two by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The 27-year-old was charged by Uefa after PSG's Champions League exit at home to Manchester United on 6 March. Neymar called the award of a decisive 94th-minute United penalty in the last-16 second leg-tie "a disgrace". He will miss the games against Real Madrid and Galatasaray but can return to face Club Bruges on 22 October. Can Neymar regain PSG fans' support? Neymar booed by own fans on PSG return in win over Strasbourg Key questions as 2019-20 Champions League campaign gets under way PSG took the case to Cas after Uefa rejected their appeal against the ban. Cas says it will publish the reasons behind their ruling in a few weeks. Neymar was injured with a broken metatarsal and missed both legs of the tie against United. Referee Damir Skomina reviewed footage of a Diogo Dalot shot striking the hand of PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe before awarding the visitors the injury-time spot kick having initially given a corner. Marcus Rashford's penalty ensured a 3-1 win in Paris for United, who went through to the Champions League quarter-finals on away goals after the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate. Neymar wrote on social media: "It's a disgrace. Four guys who know nothing about football watch a slow-motion replay in front of the television.
