Our independent research shows that QuickBooks is the best hospitality accounting software, offering an unbeatable range of features, good price, and a sturdy support team. Second place is snapped up by Xero as it's a few features shy of what's offered by QuickBooks, but it does come in at a slightly lower cost. Hospitality services sell a broad range of experiences, ranging from room reservations to tableside ordering, and the accounting software needed must have features and integrations that are flexible enough to log every transaction with ease. At the same time, the software must be priced fairly and may need to come without limitations so that it can scale up alongside with your business. These various requirements all add up to the need for a particularly powerful piece of accounting software, and our research team has tested the cream of the crop. Below is our guide to QuickBooks, Xero, and the other top accounting options for your hospitality needs. Read on to learn more, or use our free comparison tool to get the best deals immediately. https://tech.co/accounting-software/best-hospitality-accounting-software

Look, we get it. By this point in the holiday shopping season, you've seen so many gift guides that your nose is started to bleed just like this Eleven-themed candle holder that would also make a great gift for your weird Stranger Things-obsessed friend. And we'll get right back to our gadget gift guides in a second, too. But for now, take a break to feast your eyes on this quick look at the absolute worst gadgets that will wind up beneath Christmas trees across the nation this year. The List The data behind the worst gadgets of 2017 comes from Giftcards.com, which polled 1,000 shopping Americans to find out which ones want what. The results, ranked by generational differences, include the worst and the best. You can check them out in the infographic below, but the top result is clear: No one wants smart pens. While plenty of internet-connected devices are preferable — Smartphones, smart TVs and Alexa-style personal assistants all made the “best” list — apparently the smart pen is a bridge too far. It landed at the first result across Millennials, Gen Xers, and Baby Boomers alike, standing at 21 percent, 16 percent, and 18 percent, respectively. Interestingly, drones are on the list of the worst gadgets, a result that appears to go against earlier data TechCo reported on from CES, that drones are among the po[CENSORED]r tech gifts this season. If you're planning a drone present, perhaps consider whether your friend is a huge tech head who's likely to enjoy figuring out how to fly it. Also of interest: One entry, labeled “health monitor like FitBit,” was both ranked as a mid-tier worst gift and clocked in low on best gift list. It appears that the unassuming FitBit is almost as controversial among Americans as their politics. https://tech.co/news/top-10-worst-gadgets-give-gifts-holiday-season-2017-12

Leading Virtual Private Network (VPN) provider ExpressVPN has just launched its own router, Aircove, as the company enters the hardware market for the very first time. If you use your laptop to browse privately, VPN browser extensions are a safe bet. However, if you connect multiple devices to your Wi-Fi at one time, it generally makes more sense to invest in a VPN router. But is ExpressVPN's new Wi-Fi router a cut above its competition? Or are security-conscious browsers better off relying on tried and tested models to conceal their identities online? Read on to discover more about ExpressVPN's flagship hardware product, and to see how the provider weighs up against its competitors. ExpressVPN Releases Aircove, Its First Ever Wi-Fi Router With the average US home connecting an average of 25 devices to their Wi-Fi network, downloading VPN software separately can be a time and cost-intensive process. Alternatively, by using VPN routers to encrypt the connection of all household gadgets at once, users can spend less time installing fiddly add-ons, benefit from long-term protection, and usually, achieve greater security overall. With demands for VPN routers rising year on year, it was only a matter of time before ExpressVPN joined the ranks of other companies by releasing its own. Aircove uses ExpressVPNs patented technology to encrypt user data just like its browser add-on, but it's also the first ever router of its kind to be built on Wi-Fi 6 technology. This allows it to cover homes up to 1,600 square feet with internet speeds of up to 1,200 Mbps, which is generally regarded to be an excellent speed. https://tech.co/news/expressvpn-launches-hardware

Have you ever wondered aloud, 'Why has no one thought to combine skateboarding and fishing'? Well, wonder no longer, because Skate Fish - out now for Android - has finally accomplished that herculean feat. In Skate Fish, you're tasked with pulling off sick skateboarding tricks to impress, and then catch, fish to po[CENSORED]te your local aquarium. Developed by Sudden Event Studios and White Thorn Games, Skate Fish lets you explore three unique locations at launch, with intuitive two-finger touch controls letting you angle for different species and accomplish some seriously radical stunts. You'll also be able to customize your deck - that's skateboard to you and me - trucks, tape and fishing gear to show off your skills. You can check out the exclusive launch trailer for Skate Fish below! As far as original concepts go, we're fairly sure combining fishing and skateboarding hasn't been done before. And given the po[CENSORED]rity of both it seems only inevitable that, in some surreal way, these two would inevitably co-mingle. We'll be covering Skate Fish in-depth soon, including a review to find out just whether this odd coupling manages to land the catch. But it's not just pulling off tricks and angling for fish that sets Skate Fish apart. White Thorn Games have gone out of their way to add a whole host of accessibility features into Skate Fish, allowing you to adjust your chosen input method, adjust dead zones, board sizes, timescale and more, with a view to making it as accessible as possible. Why not check out our list of the top mobile games of 2024 (so far) to see what else is out in this stacked year? Not since Elden Ring have players been posting as many Ls as they have with Dragon's Dogma 2. It's another open world RPG where everything can and will go wrong. If it's not pawns, the game's clumsy NPC party members, getting themselves killed, it's players minding their own business when a griffin swoops in for a surprise boss fight. Actually, most of the clips are about the griffins, Dragon's Dogma 2's biggest jerks. They do not care what quest you are on, what state your party is in, or how long you've spent with your current pawns. They always find you when it's the least convenient. I've fought a griffin. They're not particularly scary when everything is under control. They even fly off if their health gets low. I've not, however, been dive-bombed by one while peacefully riding in an oxcart like these players: https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/the-award-for-dragons-dogma-2s-biggest-jerks-goes-to-the-griffins/

Over 2 million people in the UK are living in homes with black mould which is a serious risk to their health and wellbeing. But it’s not tenants who have gotten us into this situation — it’s politicians. For too long politicians have prioritised landlords wealth over people’s health, now we’re saying enough. A new film produced by NEF as part of the Homes for Us alliance, Mould is political, shows the impact of black mould on one family and how ordinary people are coming together to demand change. https://neweconomics.org/2024/03/mould-is-political

The stars of the 2024 New York auto show were a series of mainstream money makers. Hyundai refreshed the po[CENSORED]r Tucson compact crossover—along with its pickup truck sibling, the Santa Cruz—while Kia revealed a new K4 sedan to replace the Forte and Nissan gave the subcompact Kicks a stylish overhaul. But wandering around the Jacob K. Javits Center, we discovered a plethora of other interesting vehicles, from iconic classics to modern exotics and some old-school Japanese legends. We've rounded up our favorites below. Genesis declared its intention to create a new performance-focused lineup with the near-production GV60 Magma concept on Monday. Alongside the sporty crossover, the Korean luxury brand brought its X Gran Berlinetta concept to New York. It was created for the Gran Turismo video games, but this was our first time seeing the supercar in the flesh, and it wowed with its vibrant orange paint and incredibly low-slung bodywork. Other cool details include the exposed front wheels poking through the hood and the fighter-jet-style cockpit. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g60323322/coolest-cars-new-york-auto-show-2024/

My boyfriend and I have been together for five years now, and for the most part, things have been really good. But lately, I’ve been noticing some stuff that’s got me really confused and frustrated. First of all, he’s been really distant, like he’s always got something on his mind but won’t tell me. And when I try to talk to him about it, he brushes it off like it’s nothing. Plus, he’s been cancelling plans at the last minute, which is not like him. It’s like he’s avoiding spending time with me. But here’s the real issue: I caught him red-handed flirting with some other girl on social media! I trust him, but this is making me second-guess everything. I don’t know whether to confront him about it or just keep quiet and hope it blows over. I just can’t decide between wanting to salvage what we have and not wanting to be played for a fool. And to top it all off, I’m scared that if I bring it up, it’ll just lead to a huge fight and make things worse. So please help, what should I do? https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/mar/29/my-boyfriends-behaviour-is-making-me-second-guess-everything-what-should-i-do

Police investigating the dumping of dead animals in front of a shop say they have found a vehicle believed to be linked to the crime. Volunteers for Broughton Community Shop in Hampshire found 50 dead hares, a barn owl and a kestrel scattered outside their building on Friday. The police said officers had located a burnt-out Suzuki Grand Vitara. Images of the animals' bodies circulated on social media, evoking a public outcry. Conservationist Chris Packham said on X it was "horrific on so many levels". Fellow wildlife TV presenter Megan McCubbin - Mr Packham's stepdaughter - called the act "heart-breaking" and "barbaric". Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, she said she knew how it felt "to be attacked in that manner", having had dead animals left outside her home. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-hampshire-68590753

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for alleged breaches of betting rules. The 23-year-old is currently serving a 10-month ban issued by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in October for breaking betting rules in Italy. Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in July for £55m. The FA alleges Tonali broke its rules by placing 50 bets on matches between 12 August and 12 October 2023. Tonali was banned by the FIGC for betting on matches involving his teams Brescia and Milan, and Fifa later granted the Italian federation's request to have the ban extended worldwide. The FA charges relate to separate allegations during Tonali's time as a Newcastle player. "Newcastle United acknowledges a misconduct charge received by Sandro Tonali in respect of alleged breaches of FA Betting Rules," the club said on Thursday. "Sandro continues to fully comply with relevant investigations and he retains the club's full support." His current ban means Tonali is not eligible to play again until August and will not feature at Euro 2024. The Italy international, who was fined 20,000 euros (£17,380), was initially given an 18-month ban which was reduced after he agreed to take part in an eight-month "therapeutic plan" to help "recovery from gambling addiction". That will include Tonali making at least 16 public appearances in Italy, where he will be expected to speak to young players about the dangers of gambling. Although he is unable to play in any matches, Tonali can train alongside his Newcastle team-mates during his ban. Tonali, who has until 5 April to respond to the FA's charges, had only made 12 appearances for Eddie Howe's side before his suspension was imposed. Last year Brentford striker Ivan Toney was given an eight-month for 232 breaches of the FA's betting rules. He returned in January. Former England and Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson, who says he was a "compulsive gambler" during his career, called Tonali and Toney's bans a "disgrace". "To give people 10-month bans for an addiction that is ravaging football, with sponsorships all over the shirts... They needed help and I don't think 'help' is giving them 10-month bans," he said. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/68686129

The International Court of Justice has ordered Israel to allow unimpeded access of food aid into Gaza, where significant sections of the po[CENSORED]tion are facing imminent starvation, in a significant legal rebuke to Israel’s claim it is not blocking aid deliveries. A panel of judges at the UN’s top court, which is already considering a complaint from South Africa that Israel is committing genocide in the Palestinian territory, issued the ruling after an earlier emergency measure in January obliging Israel to admit emergency aid. The judges, who were unanimous in their decision, said Palestinians in Gaza face worsening conditions of life, and famine and starvation are spreading. “The court observes that Palestinians in Gaza are no longer facing only a risk of famine ... but that famine is setting in,” the judges said in their order. In its legally binding order, the court told Israel to take “all necessary and effective measures to ensure, without delay, in full cooperation with the United Nations, the unhindered provision at scale by all concerned of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance” including food, water, fuel and medical supplies. The ICJ also ordered Israel to immediately ensure “that its military does not commit acts which constitute a violation of any of the rights of the Palestinians in Gaza as a protected group under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, including by preventing, through any action, the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance.” Israel denies it is committing genocide and says its military campaign is self-defence. The judges also called for the immediate release of all hostages being held by Hamas, echoing the demand of a UN security council resolution that was passed on Monday. While Israel has claimed that it is allowing aid into Gaza, senior UN, US and other international officials, as well as international NGOs, have accused the country of obstructing life saving aid to Gaza’s po[CENSORED]tion of 2.3 million. The ruling comes on top of warnings from the UN’s top rights official that Israel may be committing a war crime by obstructing aid, and despite Israel’s urging of the court in The Hague not to issue new measures. The new measures were requested by South Africa as part of its ongoing case that accuses Israel of state-led genocide in Gaza as well as incitement to genocide in statements by top Israeli officials. Under international law using starvation as a weapon of war is explicitly prohibited while occupying forces are also legally obliged to ensure that those in areas they control are supplied with the means of life. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/28/famine-is-setting-in-icj-orders-israel-to-unblock-gaza-food-aid
