Apex Legends developers at Respawn have responded to a hacking incident over the weekend that forced its North American Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) esports finals to be put on hold. "On Sunday, a few professional Apex Legends players accounts were hacked during an ALGS event," Respawn wrote late Tuesday night. "Game and player security are our highest priorities, which is why we paused the competition to address the issue immediately. Our teams have deployed the first of a layered series of updates to protect the Apex Legends player community and create a secure experience for everyone." "We are working," writes Apex Legends Security Analyst Conor Ford. "The team on this are some of the most talented I've ever had the pleasure of working with. All I can say is, the care and love shown from parties involved makes me thankful for the coworkers and devs on this game." "Lots of folks across various teams have been working extremely hard in response to this the last few days," says Apex Legends Build Engineer Tyler Owens. "We care deeply about this game and know you do too." The Respawn-affiliated Apex Legends esports account also responded, saying the esports league is "still actively working" with Respawn and its parent company Electronic Arts to resolve the issue. "At this time, we do not anticipate any changes to the Split 1 Playoffs," Apex Esports wrote. "We will have more information to share on the Challenger Circuit and the NA Regional Finals soon." Respawn has not yet shared any further details on the hack, including how it happened or whether other players could be at risk. Two professional players known as Genburten and ImperialHal reported being hacked mid-game during the tournament over the weekend. In Genburten's case, two hackers known as Destroyer2009 and R4ndom took credit for the attack and installed cheats on the pro's account in the middle of a match. The hackers' reasons for attacking the tournament are unknown, though Destroyer2009 appears to be a known cheater in the game. One Twitter account focused on anti-cheats suspects the attack was an RCE exploit, or remote code execution attack, though Respawn has not confirmed this. Apex's anti-cheat software, Easy Anti-Cheat, said its kernel-level software was not the vector of an RCE attack (though it failed to detect the cheats installed). Unfortunately, cheating has been a problem in Apex Legends for years. Some bad actors are even able to get around hardware-level bans and are able to keep making new accounts with cheats installed to play the game. https://www.pcmag.com/news/respawn-rolls-out-security-update-response-to-apex-legends-hack

Can something that you've found truly be considered lost? I mean, a lost island is only lost in theory but once you're actually on it, it's no longer lost because you found it. Anyway, enough wasting time on the grammatical accuracy of the game title of Adventure To Fate Lost Island. Touch Mint has put out a pixel RPG that is made to have so much stuff in it that you can spend the whole game just trying to find all of it. But that'll have to wait because you've got a lost island to explore and maybe you'll end up finding yourself. WHAT IS ADVENTURE TO FATE LOST ISLAND? A solid place to start when setting up an adventure is a mysterious place that presumably no one has ever been. After you decide your species and preferred adventuring occupation, your boat sinks and you wash up on the lost island. It must be fate that you're here, but it's a pretty bad one at that because you can't leave the island. Even in death, the island will bring you back to life as its prisoner. Fortunately, there's a way out: Talk to the weird magic keepers, grab magic gems from the different parts of the island, and slot them into the magic slots - Yes, there's a fair bit of magic involved. It may not be the most convenient lead, but it's not like you've got anything else to do. ADVENTURE TO FATE LOST ISLAND IS FOUND To begin an adventure you have to start strong by introducing a character that we're excited to follow to the end. Adventure To Fate Lost Island goes the traditional route of letting you make your character and does it well. You have a lot of classes to choose from with a few mysterious classes waiting to be discovered by adventuring. You've then got several different races to provide different stat advantages and disadvantages to your hero. Lastly, you can choose a specialized skill to help them in the field for a little bit of flavour. The level of customisation and detail by this point is impressive. https://www.pocketgamer.com/adventure-to-fate-lost-island/review/

A wave of farmers’ protests has swept across Europe in recent months. Tractors blocked high streets and highways, united under the slogan of “No farmers, no food”. But it was another of their banners that caught my eye: “Flights over food”. That was the slogan held above a convoy of 60 tractors gathered outside Cork Airport last month. So what does air travel have to do with farmers? While the motivations of Europe’s protesting farmers are wide ranging, including tough economic conditions and issues with local taxes and regulations, a unifying complaint has been the EU’s Green Deal climate policies. A particular source of ire has been its measures to cut fertiliser and pesticide use, but other important climate measures have also been in the firing line, including tree-planting rules. In Wales, farmers have objected to a proposal which will replace EU policy, which will require them to increase the amount land they dedicate to trees and wildlife habitat from current levels up to 20%. Some farmers argue that these measures are damaging to their livelihoods – although in the Welsh case, the government has gone to great lengths to listen to farmers and address their needs. The protests are not without their contradictions: the protestors rail against climate-saving measures while the climate crisis itself squeezes the productivity of farming in the UK and across Europe. They’ve also drawn out political contradictions: Rishi Sunak attended a protest with a fringe group of Welsh farming protestors while simultaneously decrying other forms of peaceful protest as “mob rule”. Given Sunak himself holds the keys to ensuring farmers are properly compensated for their stewardship of the land (even in Wales), the protestors’ ire seemed somewhat misdirected. Yet, when a group of Irish farmers rolled their tractors up outside Cork Airport with their “Flights over food” banner, I found myself sympathising with the their frustration over a different contradiction. Cork’s farmers saw it as unfair that the EU’s Green Deal meant they were asked to “take a hit” for the climate, when the airport next door was slated for a free pass to expand its capacity from 3 million passengers to 5 million. Welsh farmers chose to direct their frustration at the Senedd, but might also have driven an hour east to the gates of Bristol Airport. The airport has been given permission for an expansion which will cause climate damage equivalent to putting over 100,000 new cars on the road. “Tractors blocked high streets and highways, united under the slogan of“No farmers, no food”. But it was another of their banners that caught my eye:“Flights over food”.” While elements of the “no farmers, no food” campaign have been captured by right-wing and reactionary groups peddling conspiracy theories, these groups are playing on genuine concerns. In the UK, farm income varies hugely across types and sizes of farm but, particularly among smaller operations, many farms are not particularly profitable. The extent to which climate policy represents a threat to the profitability of farms is a topic of heated debate, but there is a genuine risk posed to farmers from poorly thought-out climate interventions. Our collective mission to slash carbon emissions to net zero will only be successful if power holders ensure that people on lower incomes — a group which does include some farmers — are not financially punished. Risk and potential loss of income should only fall on those with the broadest shoulders. The shift to a clean, green economy requires that the public buy into the national mission. But this buy-in will not just come from the actual fairness of climate policies themselves – which should be non-negotiable – but also through people perceiving or feeling that those policies are fair. Across the UK, there are multiple proceedings ongoing to expand UK airports as much as possible, as fast as possible. These are, frankly, insulting to those most directly affected by the climate crisis – whether it’s those living in areas vulnerable to increased flooding, or farmers being asked to reduce emissions. The collective growth proposed at UK airports amounts to a mammoth increase in capacity, and therefore greenhouse gas emissions. Gatwick Airport’s proposed new runway would add 13 million passengers to its annual load, while recent applications from Luton and Stansted add 13 million and 8 million respectively. Perhaps the most insulting expansion of the lot has been proposed by London City Airport, for 2.5 million extra passengers. Not only do City Airport’s smaller, less efficient planes, create more emissions per passenger, but they serve the wealthiest customer base of any major UK airport. The airport’s predominantly well-off customers take off from Newham, one of the most deprived local authorities in the UK. The proposed expansion will subject several hundred thousand local residents to more noise pollution for ever more hours of their day. A decision on the expansion is currently pending, but its approval would send the clearest signal yet that we are not all in this climate crisis together. When the UK is ready for a serious national conversation about how it will cut its dangerous carbon emissions, many sectors and communities will be asked to embrace risk and change. Blowing our emissions budget on growing the UK’s many airports is a profligate waste – and one which risks fueling opposition to emissions reductions among communities that are key to the transition. https://neweconomics.org/2024/03/flights-farmers-and-food

Electric cars are the future, and each year we've seen automakers add more EVs to their lineups. Everyone is working on electric vehicles, from well-established existing manufacturers to new names such as Lucid, Canoo, and Rivian. We've compiled a list of every electric vehicle, from concept to production, that isn't available yet but will be soon. Acura ZDX (Expected: Early 2024) You may recognize the ZDX name from Acura's old coupe-SUV model, but this time around the moniker adorns a midsize crossover that becomes Acura's first EV when it arrives early next year. The 2024 ZDX rides on General Motors' Ultium battery platform—sharing components with the Cadillac Lyriq—and the 102.0-kWh battery will provide up to 325 miles of range. The 340-hp, single-motor, rear-wheel-drive A-Spec model will be joined by a 500-hp, dual-motor, all-wheel-drive Type S, which also wears upgraded brakes, adaptive dampers, and air suspension. The A-Spec should start around $60,000. —Caleb Miller Alfa Romeo Giulia EV (Expected: 2025) Alfa Romeo has confirmed the gas-powered Giulia (seen above) will be revamped in the coming years, dropping its Ferrari-derived V-6 in favor of an electric powertrain for 2025. We expect the base version will make around 350 horsepower, while the Veloce will produce closer to 800 horsepower. The top-of-the-line Giulia will continue to carry the historic Quadrifoglio name and should make upwards of 1000 horsepower. The new Giulia will be produced on the Stellantis Group's STLA Large platform, with 800-volt, ultra-rapid charging and a range of up to 500 miles. —Jack Fitzgerald https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g29994375/future-electric-cars-trucks/

We have never lived together, which has worked well for us due to our shared love of us each having our own space. My girlfriend has recently become pregnant, and I am struggling with the decision of whether to continue our relationship living separately and supporting the child, or to end our relationship and provide financial support from a distance. The turnspit dog is an extinct short-legged, long-bodied dog bred to run on a wheel, called a turnspit or dog wheel, to turn meat. It is mentioned in Of English Dogs in 1576 under the name "Turnespete".[1] William Bingley's Memoirs of British Quadrupeds (1809) also talks of a dog employed to help chefs and cooks. It is also known as the Kitchen Dog, the Cooking Dog, the Wheeling Dog, the Underdog and the Vernepator.[citation needed] In Linnaeus's 18th-century classification of dogs it is listed as Canis vertigus (also used as Latin name for the Dachshund).[citation needed] The breed was lost, since it was considered to be such a lowly and common dog that no record was effectively kept of it. Some sources consider the turnspit dog a kind of Glen of Imaal Terrier,[2] while others make it a relative of the Welsh Corgi.[3] With advancements in kitchen technology, the need for turnspit dogs declined. Over time, they were no longer bred for their specific function, and their numbers dwindled, eventually leading to their extinction. A preserved example of a turnspit dog is displayed at Abergavenny Museum in Abergavenny, Wales.[4] The Vernepator Cur was bred to run on a wheel in order to turn meat so it would cook evenly. Due to the strenuous nature of the work, a pair of dogs would often be worked in shifts. According to John George Wood in The Illustrated Natural History (Mammalia) (1853):[5] Just as the invention of the spinning jenny abolished the use of distaff and wheel, which were formerly the occupants of every well-ordained English cottage, so the invention of automaton roasting-jacks has destroyed the occupation of the Turnspit Dog, and by degrees has almost annihilated its very existence. Here and there a solitary Turnspit may be seen, just as a spinning-wheel or a distaff may be seen in a few isolated cottages; but both the Dog and the implement are exceptions to the general rule, and are only worthy of notice as being curious relics of a bygone time. In former days, and even within the remembrance of the present generation, the task of roasting a joint of meat or a fowl was a comparatively serious one, and required the constant attendance of the cook, in order to prevent the meat from being spoiled by the unequal action of the fire. The smoke-jack, as it was rather improperly termed—inasmuch as it was turned, not by the smoke, but by the heated air that rushed up the chimney—was a great improvement, because the spit revolved at a rate that corresponded with the heat of the fire. So complicated an apparatus, however, could not be applied to all chimneys, or in all localities, and therefore the services of the Turnspit Dog were brought into requisition. At one extremity of the spit was fastened a large circular box, or hollow wheel, something like the wire wheels which are so often appended to squirrel-cages; and in this wheel the Dog was accustomed to perform its daily task, by keeping it continually working. As the labour would be too great for a single Dog, it was usual to keep at least two animals for the purpose, and to make them relieve each other at regular intervals. The dogs were quite able to appreciate the lapse of time, and, if not relieved from their toils at the proper hour, would leap out of the wheel without orders, and force their companions to take their place, and complete their portion of the daily toil. The dogs were also taken to church to serve as foot warmers. One story says that during service at a church in Bath, the Bishop of Gloucester gave a sermon and uttered the line "It was then that Ezekiel saw the wheel...". At the mention of the word "wheel" several turnspit dogs, who had been brought to church as foot warmers, ran for the door.[6] Queen Victoria kept retired turnspit dogs as pets.[7] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turnspit_dog

A 14-player England side recorded a bonus-point win over Italy after Sarah Beckett was sent off in their Women's Six Nations opener in Parma. The number eight became the first woman to have her yellow card upgraded to red by the TMO 'bunker' system for a dangerous first-half ruck clear-out. Despite being a player down, tries from Hannah Botterman and Abbie Ward gave England a 10-point lead at half-time. The Red Roses scored six second-half tries to run out comfortable winners. Those scores came through a double from Ellie Kildunne, Lark Atkin-Davies, Helena Rowland, Mackenzie Carson and Connie Powell to rectify a below-par opening half. England are seeking a third successive Grand Slam and a sixth successive Six Nations title. John Mitchell's side next face Wales at Ashton Gate on Saturday, while Italy, who finished fifth in last year's championship, travel to Ireland on Sunday with hopes of replicating their only victory last campaign. 'We'll come back stronger' - reaction after 14-player England thrash Italy How to follow on BBC TV, fixtures, results and standings Poor discipline slows England's start The trip to Italy was Mitchell's first Women's Six Nations game in charge of the Red Roses and he called for his side to play with a higher tempo in attack. In attempting to do so, England delivered an error-riddled first half lacking any accuracy with ball in hand. The loss of Beckett in the 11th minute added to the frustrations. The 25-year-old grabbed the waist of Michela Sillari before attempting to roll the Italy centre off the ball. The result was Sillari twisted her knee and was forced off injured. World Rugby has announced it is looking to clamp down on dangerous ruck clean-outs to prevent knee injuries. Mitchell's side were then forced to revert back to their direct forward-ordinated style and they finally got over the tryline after a rare 30 minutes without a score. Both Botterman and Ward, who was playing her first game for England since giving birth, powered their way over. In the second half, discipline remained a problem as Rowland was also sent to the sin-bin for a high clean-out, but it remained a yellow because of mitigating circumstances. Red Roses break down stubborn Italy Before the 2023 Six Nations, Italy announced 22 professional contracts had been given out to their players. That decision will take time to reap the benefits England have enjoyed since turning professional in 2019. Despite remaining well in the game because of England's mistakes, the Italians struggled for any territory. Once Mitchell's side cut out their first-half errors their professionalism shone through, especially with the impact of their replacements. The pick of the tries came from Kildunne, who sprinted up the wing before rounding the full-back to show exactly why Mitchell wants to speed up his side's play. Rowland also showed her class in attack with a weaving run to put the Red Roses beyond Italy's reach. But an area of improvement would be England's goal kicking. Only four tries were converted, with Zoe Harrison missing a straightforward attempt in the first half. Mitchell recalled Harrison for her first game since the 2022 World Cup final defeat after a nasty knee injury and the fly-half struggled from the tee. The Red Roses had put 50 points or more on Italy in their past five meetings, which offered some consolation to an improving Italian side. https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/68639619

Top Democrats urge Netanyahu to abandon planned assault days after Israeli leader rejected similar request by Antony Blinken Senior US Democrats on Sunday increased pressure on Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to abandon a planned offensive into the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinians are sheltering. Two days after a similar call by US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, was rejected by the Israeli leader, vice-president Kamala Harris said that the Joe Biden White House was “ruling out nothing” in terms of consequences if Netanyahu moves ahead with the assault. Harris said that Washington had been “very clear in terms of our perspective on whether or not that should happen”. “Any major military operation in Rafah would be a huge mistake,” Harris said on ABC’s This Week. “I have studied the maps – there’s nowhere for those folks to go. And we’re looking at about a million and a half people in Rafah who are there because they were told to go there.” Harris declined to say if she, like Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer, the most senior politician of the Jewish faith in the US, believed that Netanyahu is an obstacle to peace. But she said: “We’ve been very clear that far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed. “We have been very clear that Israel and the Israeli people and Palestinians are entitled to an equal amount of security and dignity.” Her remarks came as political figure from progressive elements of the Democratic political established added their voices to the growing opposition to the humanitarian costs of Israel’s five-month military campaign on the Palestinian territory. That air and ground campaign began after Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October, killing more than 1,100 and taking hostage. The offensive has killed more than 30,000 people and pushed Gaza to the brink of famine. On Friday, New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused the Jewish state of committing “genocide” against the Palestinians and called on the US to suspend military aid to Israel. She went further Sunday, saying that Israel had “crossed the threshold of intent” in blocking humanitarian aid from reaching starving Gazans. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/24/kamala-harris-israel-gaza-war-rafah-netanyahu

Baldur's Gate 3 is done. Finished. Ended. Wound up and concluded save for future fixes and updates. Developer Larian Studios is onto new and strange things that only it knows the nature of. Frankly? I think that's all good. I'm very eager to see what the studio does next, and I'm happy to keep BG3 as the singular, special thing that it already is. But there is one question: What on Earth will become of those characters? None of us walked away from BG3 unchanged: We've all got some kind of doomed obsession with one of its beautiful cast of crackpots, mavericks and perverts. I like Lae'zel, personally, but it's my understanding that most of you can't stop making TikToks about the vampire boy. Anyway, from this point forward, your favs' futures are strictly in the hands of Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) and its parent company Hasbro. In a tweet earlier today, Larian CEO Swen Vincke said that "As for BG3 and its characters—they now belong to WOTC and I think they understand how important they are for the community. I trust that they'll be treated with respect." https://www.pcgamer.com/games/baldurs-gate/swen-vincke-says-your-baldurs-gate-3-crushes-now-belong-to-wizards-of-the-coast-as-the-studio-leaves-dandd-behind-prompting-a-collective-nervous-gulp/

Stubbornly high inflation could push the Federal Reserve into a more cautious stance this year regarding interest rate cuts, the central bank’s former vice chair said Friday. Richard Clarida, who served as Fed governor until January 2022 and is now a global economic advisor at asset management giant Pimco, said his former colleagues need to be on guard against sticky prices that could thwart plans to ease monetary policy this year. At its meeting earlier this week, the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee indicated it would likely decrease rates three times this year, assuming quarter percentage point intervals. Chair Jerome Powell said receding inflation and a strong economy give policymakers room to cut. “This may be more of a hope than a forecast,” Clarida said during an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “I do hope that the Fed really moves into data-dependent mode, because there can be a very good case if inflation is sticky and stubborn that they shouldn’t deliver three cuts this year.” Markets also are expecting three cuts this year, though that pricing has been scaled back after data to start the year showed inflation higher than expected. Fed officials are banking that elevated shelter inflation is on its way down, paving the way to lower their key borrowing rate from its highest level in more than 23 years. Clarida, however, said the extent to which the Fed can cut is unclear. “Under a pretty broad range of scenarios, they’re going to get at least one cut in this year,” he said. However, the calculus gets different as inflation data provides mixed signals. The Fed prefers the Commerce Department’s measure of personal consumption expenditures prices, with a particular focus on the core reading that excludes food and energy. The headline 12-month PCE reading for January was 2.4% and core was at 2.8% — both above the Fed’s 2% goal but headed in the right direction. However, the more commonly followed consumer price index in February was at 3.2% for headline and 3.8% for core, both well above the central bank target. Moreover, the Atlanta Fed’s measure of “sticky” inflation was at 4.4% on a 12-month basis and even higher, at 5%, on a three-month annualized basis, which marked the highest since April 2023. “If the Fed were targeting CPI right now, we wouldn’t even be discussing rate cuts,” Clarida said. He also noted that even though Powell on Wednesday said financial conditions are tight, they in fact are “a lot easier than they were in November.” A Chicago Fed measure of financial conditions is at its loosest since January 2022. “What I think is going on here is a delicate balance that [Powell is] trying to navigate,” Clarida said. “Financial conditions will very naturally start to ease when they get the sense the Fed is done and [will start] cutting. Then of course that improves the economic outlook and potentially makes it harder to get inflation down to 2″ percent. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/22/former-fed-vice-chair-clarida-sees-possibility-of-fewer-rate-cuts-than-expected-this-year.html

Most White House limousines end up in museums, but this is a rare exception. This 1965 Lincoln Continental is one of 500 limousines converted by Lehmann-Peterson in Chicago between 1964 and 1970. The Federal government bought 15, and this one saw duty during the Johnson Administration. For the last half-century, ex-Presidential limos have been locked up, destroyed, or donated to a museum. But this 1965 Continental, all 21 feet of it, is up for auction right now on Bring a Trailer. Unlike the standard-grade Continental that LBJ drove at his Texas ranch, and which also sold on BaT not too long ago, this is one of 500 Executive Limousines that were stretched and strengthened by Lehmann-Peterson in Chicago between 1964 and 1970. The federal government bought 15, and of those, the Lincoln here is likely the only one that's in private hands. The seller, John "Bugsy" Lawlor, has stewarded this timepiece for 22 years and, with a Massachusetts "LBJ" plate, comfortably driven it several thousand miles. There's but 37,000 and change on the clock. "The car goes down the road like it's carved out of a block of stone," Lawlor says. "It's pretty peppy, too." A "red carpet car" that whisked foreign dignitaries and special guests around Washington, this Lincoln is unarmored, so its 7.0-liter V-8 doesn't shoulder thousands of extra pounds. It is, however, equipped with a booze cabinet with original crystal decanters and a White House phone with button presets above the rotary dial. A few modern conveniences, such as a Sony CD player and Panasonic speakers, added by a previous owner date from the Clinton administration and are tucked out of sight. When Lawlor bought the Lincoln in 2002, he thought he had purchased a normal Lehmann-Peterson limo. But the delivery driver showed up with a special box, including a gold keychain and pen from Johnson's 1965 inauguration. "He asked me, 'Where did you get Lyndon Johnson's limousine?' and I said, 'I didn't know I had Lyndon Johnson's limousine.'"Lawlor, who operates a media fleet for most major automakers, was the "Technical, Spiritual, and Menu Advisor" to Car Talk. Let's hope the next caretaker preserves this piece of history and keeps it in the public eye. Remember: All the way with LBJ! https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60277727/1965-lincoln-continental-limousine-bring-a-trailer-auction/

The Siamese cat (Thai: แมวไทย, Maeo Thai; แมวสยาม, Maeo Sayam) is one of the first distinctly recognised breeds of Asian cat. Derived from the Wichianmat landrace, one of several varieties of cats native to Thailand (formerly known as Siam), the original Siamese became one of the most po[CENSORED]r breeds in Europe and North America in the 19th century.[1] The carefully refined, more extreme-featured, modern-style Siamese is characterised by blue almond-shaped eyes; a triangular head shape; large ears; an elongated, slender, and muscular body; and various forms of point colouration. Other than colouration, the modern-style Siamese bears little resemblance to the original stock, and the more moderate, traditional, or "old-style" Siamese, with a much rounder head and body, has been re-established by multiple registries as the Thai cat. The Siamese (sometimes in the traditional form) is among the foundation stock of several other breeds developed by crossbreeding with other cats: some examples are the Oriental Shorthair and Colorpoint Shorthair, developed to expand the range of coat patterns; the long-haired variant most often dubbed the Himalayan; and hair-mutation breeds, including the Cornish Rex, Sphynx, Peterbald, and blue-point Siamese cat. The Siamese cat comes in two distinct variations: traditional, with a rounded head (though not as rounded as the later American Apple-head mix) and a slightly chubby body; or the modern Siamese, which is very skinny and has a wedge-shaped head. The long-haired Siamese is recognised internationally as a Balinese cat. Siamese cats are one of the more common breeds to have non-white irises. A description and depiction of the Wichienmaat (Siamese cat) first appears in a collection of ancient manuscripts called the Tamra Maew (The Cat-Book Poems), thought to originate from the Ayutthaya Kingdom (1351 to 1767 AD). Over a dozen are now kept in the National Library of Thailand, while others have resurfaced outside of Thailand and are now in the British Library and National Library of Australia. In addition to the old Siamese cat, the Tamra Maew also describes other heritage cats of Thailand including the Korat cat (Malet), which is still bred for preservation in Thailand today and has become po[CENSORED]r in other countries, and the Konja or Korn Ja (Black cat).[2] When the capital city Ayutthaya was sacked on 7 April 1767 at the end of the Burmese–Siamese war, the Burmese army burned everything in sight. It returned to Burma, taking Siamese noblemen and royal family members with them as captives. Buddha images were hacked apart for their gold, and all the royal treasures were stolen. A Thai legend has it that the King of Burma Hsinbyushin found and read the poem for the Thai cats in the Tamra Maew. The poem describes Thai cats as being as rare as gold, and anyone who owns this cat will become wealthy. He told his army to round up all the Suphalak cats and bring them back to Burma along with the other treasures. Today in Thailand, this legend is told as a humorous explanation of the rarity of Thai cats.[citation needed] Siamese[edit] The pointed cat known in the West as "Siamese", recognized for its distinctive markings, is one of several breeds of cats from Siam described and illustrated in manuscripts called "Tamra Maew" (Cat Poems), estimated to have been written from the 14th to the 18th century.[2] In 1878, U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes received the first documented Siamese to reach the United States, a cat named "Siam" sent by the American Consul in Bangkok.[3] In 1884, the British Consul-General in Bangkok, Edward Blencowe Gould (1847–1916),[4] brought a breeding pair of the cats, Pho and Mia, back to Britain as a gift for his sister, Lilian Jane Gould (who, married in 1895 as Lilian Jane Veley,[5] went on to co-found the Siamese Cat Club in 1901). In 1885, Gould's UK cats Pho and Mia produced three Siamese kittens—Duen Ngai, Kalohom, and Khromata—who were shown with their parents that same year at London's Crystal Palace Show. Their unique appearance and distinct behaviour attracted attention, but all three of the kittens died soon after the show, their cause of death not documented.[6] By 1886, another pair (with kittens) was imported to the UK by Eva Forestier Walker (surnamed Vyvyan after 1887 marriage)[7] and her sister, Ada. Compared to the British Shorthair and Persian cats that were familiar to most Britons, these Siamese imports were longer and less "cobby" in body types, had heads that were less rounded with wedge-shaped muzzles and had larger ears. These differences and the pointed coat pattern, which had not been seen before in cats by Westerners, produced a strong impression—one early viewer described them as "an unnatural nightmare of a cat." Over the next several years, fanciers imported a small number of cats, forming the base breeding pool for the entire breed in Britain. It is believed that most Siamese in Britain today are descended from about eleven of these original imports. In their early days in Britain, they were called the "Royal Cat of Siam", reflecting reports that they had previously been kept only by Siamese royalty.[8] Later research has not shown evidence of any organised royal breeding programme in Siam.[2] The original Siamese imports were medium-sized, rather long-bodied, muscular, graceful cats with moderately wedge-shaped heads and ears that were comparatively large but in proportion to the size of the head. The cats ranged from substantial to slender but were not extreme either.[citation needed] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siamese_cat

England captain Harry Kane and midfielders Cole Palmer and Jordan Henderson will all miss Saturday's game with Brazil at Wembley. It is the first of two home friendlies for England, with a game against Belgium to follow on Tuesday. "I would say Cole and Hendo have a better chance for Belgium than Harry - he'd be extremely doubtful for that," said England boss Gareth Southgate. "It's a brilliant opportunity for other players." Three Lions on shirt most important - Southgate Brazil enter new era after 'great humiliation' The injury to England's all-time top scorer Kane could give either Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins or Brentford's Ivan Toney a rare opportunity to impress in the final England games before the Euro 2024 warm-up games in June. Watkins, with 16 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League this season, is the only player to reach double figures in both. Toney has scored four goals since returning from an eight-month ban over gambling offences in January. Asked whether they were competing for one spot in the squad, Southgate added: "That is a decision that we have to make. A nine is a specialist position but they have different attributes. "It would depend a little bit on the injury status in other positions in the squad and also having perhaps players that can play more than one role. "I think both of them are aware that the opportunity is a big one. But they're both in good form, they've both had time with us. "Ollie's been with us more recently, of course, and has done well in the games he's played. He's had a fabulous season for his club. "Ivan, since he's come back into Brentford's team, has had the impact we expected him to, so they are two very, very good players." England are on a 10-match unbeaten run, winning eight and drawing two, since losing to France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup. In contrast, Brazil are on a three-match losing run, having fallen to Uruguay, Colombia and Argentina in World Cup qualifiers. It is their worst run of form in 22 years. England have only won four of their previous 26 games against Brazil, most recently a 2013 friendly. Their last meeting was a goalless draw in November 2017. It will be Dorival Jr's first game as Brazil head coach, having been hired in January. https://www.bbc.com/sport/england/68583412

Israel says 170 Gaza gunmen killed in hospital raid Lorenzo Tondo Over 170 gunmen have been killed during a prolonged operation at the main hospital in Gaza, Israeli forces revealed on Saturday. However, according to Hamas representatives, the deceased individuals identified in Israeli reports were not combatants but rather patients and displaced individuals. Hamas denounced Israel for alleged war crimes. At the break of dawn on Monday, Israeli troops ventured into al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City and commenced a thorough search of the extensive facility, which the military claims is linked to a tunnel network serving as a base for Hamas and other Palestinian combatants. “Thus far, the forces have neutralised in excess of 170 terrorists within the hospital vicinity, interrogated more than 800 suspects, and uncovered numerous weapons and infrastructure associated with terror activities,” stated the Israeli military. The military disclosed on Thursday that over 350 militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad have been apprehended at the hospital, marking the largest number captured simultaneously since the onset of the war last October. Contrary to the military’s assertions, Hamas and medical personnel refute claims that the hospital is used for military purposes or to harbour fighters. Hamas representatives have recently contended that the deceased individuals previously identified in Israeli reports were not combatants but rather civilian patients. Both the claims from Hamas and Israeli forces could not be independently verified.
