This week has already produced a burst of small-but-significant developments for Rainbow Six Siege, and there's more. Today, we learned that deployable bulletproof cameras are coming to the game, along with a rework of the movement system and buffs to Echo—and they'll be available on the next test server, along with several other changes. We don’t yet know how the camera works, but it’ll probably behave along the lines of the already existing Valkyrie cameras, and be available exclusively to the defending side, although it is possible it could be available to attackers as well. How Ubisoft is planning to prevent these new secondary gadgets from completely supplanting Valkyrie’s usefulness to the team is also unknown, as it seems these bulletproof cameras will be a direct upgrade from her distinctly non-bulletproof ones. Perhaps these new cams will feature a limited field of view, or be heavily limited in where they can be deployed. Along with the new camera, Ubisoft is also reworking all 'Observation Tools' in the game, cleaning up the UI of all the cameras and drones to provide a better user experience. https://www.pcgamer.com/rainbow-six-siege-bulletproof-camera-dropshotting/

Every accessory company wants to be different—ironic, as these days many are producing largely similar products. You’ve got RGB keyboards, RGB gaming mice, and RGB headsets. So what’s the differentiator? Software. Every company these days has its own take on proprietary software that you use to download drivers and adjust settings. Arguably the first of the bunch was Razer, but every other manufacturer has followed suit. Some are made much better than others. There's a few things we looked for when evaluating these softwares: does it make you login to an account before you can tweak a setting, and does it require an internet connection? Is cloud storage an option, but not required? How annoying are the popups you get if you don't install right away? We’d like to point out that no USB-based accessory (like keyboard, mice, headset) should ever need a driver that requires a full system reboot. Requiring a system restart is now mostly a thing of historical requirements rather than modern Windows driver design stacks. Even GeForce driver updates don’t require a reboot. An RGB mousepad asking for a restart is next-level absurdity. https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-peripheral-software-ranked-by-annoyingness/

Lords Mobile, the award-winning MMO that's dominated the Android charts since it launched three years ago, has arrived on Steam. Its publisher IGG (I Got Games) is no stranger to success, being the force behind other mobile hits such as Castle Clash and Clash of Lords 2. But with Lords Mobile, IGG has created a game it believes is capable of not only conquering mobile, but also making the intrepid crossing over into the PC realm. So how does Lords Mobile intend to win over a PC audience traditionally wary of mobile encroachments? Set in a magical realm plunged into conflict by the Emperor’s death, the game casts you as a Lord looking to build your kingdom from the ground up. Bolster your defences, build your forces, research techs, and choose your allies and enemies wisely in your quest for expansion. Fans of mobile conquest games will quickly recognise this compelling pattern of build-and-invade, and there are few sights as exhilarating as seeing your forces storm an enemy keep to take it for your own. Your armies are led into battle by special hero units, which can not only swing the course of a battle, but have a whole section of the game dedicated entirely to them. The way this works is that each player gets to pick from a vast pool of Hero units, which you unlock via progression or real-world money. You can then send these units on quests to battle waves of monsters or other players in real-time. Come through these monster battles, and you unlock loot that you use to upgrade your heroes. These side-quests become tougher as your heroes level up, forcing you to adapt and utilise your expanding arsenals of skills and abilities to manage the enemy hordes. Real-time battles against other players, meanwhile, take place in the Colosseum, where you can win gems, experience, and (maybe most importantly) the glory of outwitting your opponents in fast-paced tactical combat. The Heroes are an eclectic and beautifully designed bunch too, ranging from the pink-armoured Rose Knight who can rouse her squadmates with moves like Army Attack and Justice Call, to more tricksy, off-the-wall characters like Bombin’ Goblin and Witch Doll. Headquartered in Singapore, IGG has offices worldwide - spanning from the US to China, Japan and the UAE - and ongoing partnerships with the likes of Apple, Google and Amazon. The Steam launch of Lords Mobile on commemorates the company's 13th birthday. As the game continues to grow on mobile, achieving a record revenue increase of 37% in 2018, IGG hopes to emulate that success on PC. With 250 million registered users and 13 million monthly active players making up the Lords Mobile community, it has a formidable foundation to achieve its regal ambitions. Lords Mobile isn’t your regular F2P clans-and-kingdoms online game. It's a bold RPG-focused twist on the genre that lets you explore a dangerous fantasy kingdom with a bespoke squad of vibrant heroes. Spurred by IGG’s motto of ‘Innovators at Work, Gamers at heart’, Lords Mobile has begun its siege of the PC platform with the same compelling mix of strategy and roleplaying that helped it become such a formidable force on Android. And the best news? You can get Lords Mobile free on Steam right now. https://www.pcgamer.com/mobile-gaming-sensation-lords-mobile-is-now-available-on-steam/

The Daily Telegraph says GPs want an 11% increase in funding for surgeries and that a leaked letter from the British Medical Association calls the uplift a "reasonable objective". A spokesperson for the union is quoted as saying there's still "a long way to go" in negotiations. The paper's editorial warns against giving into unions, saying such deals put "public sector workers ahead of tax payers" and have "disturbing shades of the 1970s". But the Daily Mirror's political columnist, Paul Routledge, praises ministers for trying to end industrial disputes, saying: "Sort-it government is what the public wants." The Daily Mail highlights figures published on Thursday which suggest the UK economy grew by 0.6% in the three months to June. It says Labour's "doom-laden claims about the Tories' economic legacy" have been left in "tatters". The Daily Express has a similar take. Its front page headline declares there's "surely no need for tax hikes with our growing economy". The shadow chief secretary to the treasury, Laura Trott, has written a comment piece for the paper arguing that the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has "no excuse" to announce any increases in taxation when she sets out her budget this autumn. The Financial Times has spoken to government insiders who insist ministers aren't "abandoning supercomputing" - despite scrapping £1.3bn in support for projects. The paper says Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is trying to contain the fallout from the decision - which included axing funding for a supercomputer at Edinburgh University. A government source is quoted as saying the "project made little strategic sense" because it "was not focused on AI" - although they insist ministers are expected to match previous spending commitments. The i has more details about how Britain is preparing for a potential outbreak of the new, more infectious, strain of mpox. The deputy director of the UK Health Security Agency, Dr Meera Chand, tells the paper the measures include rapid testing and protocols to stop the illness spreading. She says the risk to the po[CENSORED]tion is "currently considered low". The Guardian focuses on the regional divide in A-level results in England. The paper says there was a 6.5% gap in top grades between London and the South East, and the North. The article quotes an academic as saying the disparity shows there's a "two-tier system". The department for education says it aims to tackle the problem by hiring more teachers and reforming the curriculum. Pictures of a sequin-clad Taylor Swift appear on several of the front pages after she performed in London last night. The Daily Express says the US star enjoyed an "emotional return" to Britain following the alleged terror plot that saw her cancel three shows in Austria. "Defiant Taylor wows Wembley" is the Daily Mirror's assessment. The inside pages of the Sun have pictures of beaming fans and stern-faced armed police - alongside the headline: "Shaking off the danger." https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clyw1gyz2q8o

A hunting group was issued a Community Protection Warning by police after two animals were killed, it has been revealed. Albrighton and Woodland Hunt was issued the warning by Staffordshire Police in March, for conduct including the killing of a muntjac deer and a fox in September and December 2023. CCTV showed the hounds were unsupervised and out of control after entering private land several times, police said. The force said the incident caused property damage and "harassment, alarm, and distress" to residents and land owners in the area. In the results of a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the police force, published this week, police said this was the second Community Protection Warning issued to the hunt. The previous one was given in February 2019. Staffordshire Police said the warning was issued after "persistent reports of anti-social behaviour and damage to property". The hunt did not wish to provide a comment to the BBC. Its website describes it as a "friendly traditional mounted hunt located in the beautiful West Midlands countryside" which hunts in parts of Staffordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire. It continues: "At all times the Albrighton & Woodland Hunt intends to hunt within the law, performing legal activities permitted by the Hunting Act." https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjdkydgmn4go

BMW issued a recall on 12,535 Mini Cooper SE electric models due to an issue involving the battery system. According to recall documents, the affected cars may have been produced outside of standard production specifications. As a result, a short circuit may occur in the battery or high-voltage system, which increases the chance of starting a fire. BMW is recalling 12,535 Mini Cooper SE electric models whose batteries were produced in a manner that may be outside of standard production specifications. According to recall documents, a fault may occur in the battery or high-voltage system of affected cars, which could lead to a fire. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that faults in the battery system can lead to the battery overheating. The documents also show that thermal issues can occur even when the vehicle is stopped and parked. The recall po[CENSORED]tion includes 2020 to 2024 models, and owners will be asked to bring their cars to an authorized dealership that will install a software update. The update includes a diagnostic function that can detect a malfunction in the high-voltage system and then discharge the battery below the 30 percent state-of-charge battery-emergency mode. BMW notified dealers of the issue in mid-August, with owner notification planned to take place on October 7. Impacted owners will be instructed to schedule an appointment with their authorized dealer who will perform the fix for free—though if their battery short-circuits before the recall, it would be covered under the MINI New Vehicle Limited Warranty program. Owners can check the NHTSA recalls website to see if their vehicle is part of the recall. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a62018999/mini-cooper-se-faulty-battery-recall/

Sterling's fall from grace at Chelsea was brutal. After being described by Maresca in pre-season as "one of our important players", he was dropped for the opening game of the campaign against Manchester City - prompting a statement from his camp demanding "clarity" on his position. He suffered the added indignity of being stripped of his number seven shirt, which was handed to Pedro Neto when he arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Maresca insists he likes wingers - as the deadline-day loan signing of Manchester United's Jadon Sancho to add to Neto's arrival proves - but he said Sterling was "not the type of winger I like", adding: "That says nothing about Raheem." Chelsea's transfer strategy has prompted much debate and criticism, with the notion of Sterling sitting idle - or training with the club's youngsters - while on the five-year deal worth a reported £300,000-a-week he signed when arriving from Manchester City in a £50m deal in July 2022 a prime example of its dysfunction. Even in a world in which players increasingly resemble commodities, and in which Sterling himself was not slow to push for a move from Liverpool when Manchester City came calling in 2015, there was sympathy in some quarters at his treatment. But after Arsenal's late intervention, Sterling has been presented with the ideal outcome and opportunity. He is able to stay in his native London and joins a club hoping to bridge the gap to Manchester City and become Premier League champions this season, with the added attraction of Champions League football. Arteta has never hidden his admiration for Sterling, saying recently: "We built a really strong relationship together at Manchester City. He was unbelievable at that time. He is someone I have really strong feelings about." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cq5d7nxv61po

One of the real-life inspirations behind Russell T Davies' hit TV series It's A Sin has died, prompting an emotional tribute from its writer. 'Much loved' drag queen Phil Lewis, who Davies first met at West Glamorgan Youth Theatre Company, is cited as having been integral in the creation of the 1980s-based HIV/Aids drama. Affectionately known as Pinky, Lewis is said to have been a founding member of the actual London flat-share which went on to be dubbed 'The Pink Palace' on the 2021 show. "What a beautiful man," said Davies in a Instagram post. How a gay TV drama changed people's lives Russell T Davies: I want to do darker LGBTQ+ drama "The wonderful Pinky has died, what a loss," posted the current Doctor Who showrunner on Instagram. "I joined my Youth Theatre in the '70s, Pinky and his gang were camp, hilarious, wise and brilliant. "Camp became a way for us to express who we really are - Welsh camp too, the best!" Having moved to London in the 1980s Lewis then founded The Pink Palace with a group of friends before becoming "a much-loved drag queen in Brighton". https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cg58gege81no

Majdi was in his house at the entrance of Nur Shams refugee camp when the Israeli armoured bulldozers came. He told his three children not to be scared as the bulldozer pushed up against their front wall, smashing through the staircase and balcony. "The bulldozer kept coming closer to the house," he said. "It lifted the rubble near those two windows above. It was trying to hit them." Residents living near the entrances to Nur Shams often leave when they hear the Israeli army is coming. I asked Majdi why he stayed. "Why would I leave?" he said. "We won't leave. We are staying here. We either go back to our lands [in what is now Israel] or stay here and die. There are no other options." At least four men were killed in the Tulkarm area, which includes Nur Shams, during Israel’s two-day military operation here, including at least two who were fighting Israeli forces. "Every time one of us is killed, 10 more are born. We are crushing them, and hopefully, our children will also crush them," Majdi said. Israel's army pulled out of Nur Shams camp on Friday morning, but its wider operation across the north of the occupied West Bank continues - with the aim, Israel says, of dismantling the armed groups there. One of the men killed during the operation was 69-year-old Ayed Abu Hajja, who was disabled and a long-term resident of Nur Shams. He was shot by a sniper, neighbours said, when he opened a window in his house. On Friday, his body was carried through the narrow streets to his mother's home, before burial. A large crowd of young men gathered to escort his body to the cemetery - but others were there to honour someone else. Groups of young men filed silently past the crowd with their weapons - to a separate, symbolic burial for their leader, Mohammed Jaber - also killed during the Israeli operation in this city The fighter and the civilian, living for years side by side in Nur Shams, remembered side by side in death. One with prayers; the other with bursts of automatic gunfire - a show of force from Tulkarm’s armed fighters, less than a day after Israel’s army withdrew. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckgj36n8e6ro
