  1. Honkai: Star Rail's Trailblazer isn't just a throwaway character. Like the Traveler in Genshin Impact, the Trailblazer can counter multiple weaknesses because of their ability to control more than one element. Each element also empowers them to play completely different roles depending on the team. Unfortunately, the Trailblazer also has a unique way of unlocking Eidolons compared to other characters. Eidolons are copies of characters that unlock additional abilities for each one you get. You get Eidolons for most Star Rail characters from pulling on banners. For example, if you already have Dan Heng but happen to pull him again from a banner, then that copy will give you an item that unlocks his first Eidolon (E1). You can unlock up to six Eidolons per character before Star Rail converts the additional characters into other currency to spend in its in-game shop. Now Playing: Honkai: Star Rail | Official Release Trailer - "Interstellar Journey" The Trailblazer is different. You can’t pull the Trailblazer from banners, so their Eidolons come from various sources like stores. It’s even more complicated because the Trailblazer has more than one Path (the game's equivalent of combat roles). The Trailblazer has twelve Eidolons right now (six for each available Path), but that number will grow in the coming updates. That being said, it’s more difficult to find these Eidolons that pulling on a banner. Here’s where to find all of the Trailblazer’s current Eidolons. Shadows of Destruction Shadows of Destruction unlock Eidolons for the Physical Trailblazer, a Destruction character that wields the Physical element. This is the first version of the Trailblazer that you encounter in the game's prologue. Destruction characters are known for all-rounder abilities that range from self-healing to flexibility between single and multi-target attacks. 2. In fantasy worlds, picking up a sword and slaying monsters and the occasional god sounds leagues more interesting than running that shop the heroes stopped by one time. However, Tiny Shop has done a good job showing that you can have just as much fun in this entrepreneurial role. Build your store from the ground up As you begin your journey, you will quickly notice your shop is more of a shed - quite small and not a lot to it. That’s because it is your job to make money, and immediately throw that cash back at your store. You can decorate it with items that provide you with passive boosts, expand your land for more space, and add more stands to showcase more items. By upgrading the stands you can specialise them in one of the three groups of items you can sell. So, if you chose to, you could make themed stores like a Blacksmith or an Apothecary. It’s definitely fun to be able to design your store to be exactly the kind you want to run. Pick up the hammer and start crafting Perhaps the biggest part of running your business is crafting - you need stock to sell after all. As you would expect, you will require materials to do this and there are few ways to go about getting these. You can grow crops in your garden for resources to mainly create potions, and you can send adventurers out on quests who will bring some back for you, but the main way to acquire them is by exchanging cold hard cash. You will need to plan what you want to craft against the price of materials to manage your potential income, and it is always a fun little mathematical challenge to try and maximize profit against expenses. By the end of it, you will come out feeling like a real business owner. Of course, if you want more money, you need to craft better stock, and that's where your city's other residents come into play. No one shop is an island As you go through the game, more and more facilities will join your city, and these are integral to growing your own shop. Most of these places will allow you to research new recipes for your store, and, by investing gold and items, you will level them up to unlock more potential items. You will also get upgrades such as faster crafting and more crafting slots so you can bring in more money. Unfortunately, the city system does have one criticism for me; the daily tasks. Each of these facilities will have three jobs you can complete daily for resources, gems, gold and so on, which give you a nice boost. The problem is, though, the goals are quite lofty. You will frequently see jobs like 'craft 50 armour items' or 'sell 100 potions', which if you don’t have much time to game you will never complete them. They are by no means game-breaking rewards, but definitely not accessible for people who have multiple jobs or kids. The best help a shop could ask for Much like actual retail, your shop’s success is carried by your workers, or in the case of Tiny Shop, your sentient Jellyfish friend. If you leave them to it, Jelly will single-handedly take charge of every piece of running your store, sans the crafting part. They will man the counter for sales and make countless runs to the storage room to replenish your stand stock when it runs out and will continue to do so when you put your phone down so you still make a profit. They will act as your mouthpiece for the story events since you are an unseen entrepreneurial overlord, and you can even change their looks with different bodies, hats, and glasses. In short, take care of Jelly. A masterclass in monetization Something that Tiny Shop gets so right for me is its approach to monetization. A large majority of the tasks in this game can be sped up by paying gems, the game's premium currency. Now, you can spend money to buy these, or you can get 10 gems free every six hours which is generous. However, that's not a lot in the grand scheme of things right? Divinity Chronicles: Journey To The West Review That is why you can also just watch ads instead. They last forty seconds, but that's better than waiting an hour for your adventurer to come back with that all-important item, and it’s not like you're losing sales because Jelly is still running around like the commerce god they are. It would have been easy for developers Tiny Cloud to of gone “either pay money or wait” to try to make money off of impatient, but instead, you can watch an ad, and save up those free gems to buy Jelly a new hat. https://www.pocketgamer.com/tiny-shop/review/
  3. The big feature list for Minecraft 1.20 has been known for a while, and test builds have been available for a few months, with the only remaining mystery being its release date. The next Minecraft update is happening sooner than I'd expected: Trails & Tales is coming on June 7. The big ticket bits of Minecraft 1.20 are the archeology feature which is bringing suspicious sand and suspicious gravel which players can sweep away to uncover tools, bones, and the eggs to hatch the new giant Sniffer creatures which in turn will dig up ancient plants in the overworld. They're not the only new mobs either, being joined by the giant Minecraft camel mob, a new type of mount that can dash across large gaps and seat two players together on its back. There's also the new cherry grove biome, which players trying out the beta builds and snapshots have already been hunting down in some great new Minecraft seeds. If you want to start out a fresh save when 1.20 launches, be sure to check that list for a world that spawns you near that lovely new locale. 4. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif addresses a press conference in London, on March 31, 2023, in this still taken from a video. — Twitter Referring to the May 9 vandalism and May 28 nuclear tests, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif said that people of the country will always hate and love these two events, respectively. He was referring to the events when violent protests broke out following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9 and Pakistan became the nuclear-armed country on May 28 in 1998. “The people of Pakistan will continue to hate May 9 and love May 28 as there is a stark distinction between these two events,” the three-time prime minister said in an audio message played at the PML-N’s public gathering organised to celebrate the Youm-e-Takbeer, which marks the historic day when Pakistan conducted successful nuclear tests in the hills of Chaghai 25 years ago. PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz and other party leaders also addressed the gathering. Nawaz, who has been living in London since November 2019 on medical grounds, said despite the pressure of international powers he went ahead with his decision of conducting nuclear tests in 1998 as prime minister of the country. “We don’t have any aggressive intentions against anyone but we cannot allow anyone to have ill intentions against Pakistan,” he added He also slammed his ouster from power in 2017 saying that all those elements who conspired against him had been exposed. Addressing the gathering, Maryam took a jibe at Imran Khan, saying: “If a coward was leading Pakistan on May 28 1998, he would have hidden with a bucket over his head”. Calling the PTI chief “jackal”, she said he was begging the US for help during “tough times” after accusing it of toppling his government through conspiracy. “Brave nations are led by brave leaders,” she added. Maryam, the scion of the Sharif family's political dynasty, said the PTI chief while “sitting in a bunker in Zaman Park inciting his supporters to violence”. Khan has been using his Lahore's Zaman Park residence since he was injured in an assassination attempt in Wazirabad on November 3 2022. The PML-N stalwart also hailed her father Nawaz for rejecting a $5 billion offer to compromise on nuclear tests saying: “This is called absolutely not”. Earlier today, in a Youm-e-Takbeer message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is also PML-N president, reaffirmed that the national defence and sovereignty are impregnable. He said that Youm-e-Takbeer was a clear declaration of "no compromise over country’s sovereignty, and defence", and a reminder that the nation would not budge from any sacrifice to safeguard. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1074770-nawaz-draws-distinction-between-may-9-vandalism-may-28-unclear-tests
  5. HELSINKI — A walrus that became a global celebrity last year after it was seen frolicking and basking in an Oslo fjord before it was euthanized by the authorities has been honored with a bronze sculpture in Norway. The life-size sculpture by Norwegian artist Astri Tonoian was unveiled Saturday at the Oslo marina not far from the place where the actual 600-kilogram (1,300-pound) mammal was seen resting and relaxing during the summer of 2022. The walrus, named Freya, quickly become a po[CENSORED]r attraction among Oslo residents but Norwegian authorities later made a decision to euthanize it — causing public outrage — because they said people hadn’t followed recommendations to keep a safe distance away from the massive animal. 8. At the age of 17, Tom Turcich had enjoyed a good life so far. He had wonderful parents, great friends, did well at school and was a gifted sportsman. But two things gnawed away at him: he thought he was too timid, and he was terrified of death. As a little boy, he would run down the stairs at night to check that his parents were still alive. At the age of 11, he’d lie in bed trying to simulate death so he could prepare for it. “I’d lose the sensation of my body,” he says, “and I would cover my ears and close my eyes so I couldn’t see and couldn’t hear, and I’d try to imagine what death was like. But then you can’t because you’re thinking. And there’s no thinking in death.” Then, in 2006, his life was turned on its head. Turcich remembers every detail. He was in a car with three friends – Nick, Kevin and Fitz. Kevin was driving his father’s convertible. Back then, the boys used to hang out with a group of girls who were in the year below at school in Haddon Township, New Jersey. There was Shannon who was going out with Kevin, Ann Marie, Amanda and Jess. They’d grown up together, been friends since they were seven or eight, and they were as close as close can be. The radio was blasting and the boys were having a good time when Kevin got a call from Shannon. He was distraught. “Kevin yelled for the music to be turned down and said, ‘Ann Marie has died.’” Sixteen-year-old Ann Marie had been killed in a jetski accident. They drove to Shannon’s house. “We sat in the front yard. There were maybe 10 of us, we were in a circle and everybody’s crying, unsure what to do. That night I lay in bed and I remember feeling this fog. It lasted about six months.” Not only was Turcich petrified of death, he now knew he could die at any moment. Hardest of all was reconciling that it had happened to somebody like Ann Marie. “She was super-clever and exceptionally kind,” says Turcich. “Ann Marie was nice to the point it drove me crazy when I was younger because you could never get her to say anything mean. When we were hanging out I would prod her, trying to get her to say anything not generous.” I thought: if Ann Marie can die, who is a better person than I am, then for sure I can go at the same time He never succeeded. Not only did Turcich lose an amazing friend, but the accident left him questioning the meaning of life, and reinforced his fear of death. In short, he had the ultimate teenage existential crisis. “I thought: if Ann Marie can die, who is definitely a better student and better person than I am, then for sure I can go at the same time. That’s why it really hit home.” Turcich went into a decline. “It brought all those unresolved questions flooding back. I thought: OK, you’ve got to solve this problem just to go about your life.” What was the problem? “That death can come at any time – arbitrarily and instantly. It was like, with this knowledge, how do you live? What do you do? How do you integrate that fact into your life?” He was stuck for an answer. Then one day at college, the students watched Dead Poets Society, the film about a teacher called John Keating, played by Robin Williams, who inspires his students through his love of literature. Just as the movie’s seminal speech about seizing the day – carpe diem – and living an extraordinary life had a huge impact on the students in the movie, so it also did on Turcich. He watched the film again and again, asking himself how best he could seize the day and make his life extraordinary. It struck him for the first time that he could shape his future rather than simply let it happen to him. From then on, he did just that. He won a place in the school swimming team, performed in a one-act play, returned to playing tennis and became school champion, all the time wearing the blue “AML” bracelet his school had designed as a tribute to Ann Marie Lynch. He finally conquered his passivity when he braved his first kiss, after three (nervous) dates with a girl called Britney. That kiss proved to be an epiphany. “It was like the birth of the universe in my head,” he says. “All of a sudden I could see all the possibilities expanding out. It finally clicked: the actions you take really can affect your life.” Turcich decided he was going to seize the day by getting out of safe, friendly Haddon Township, with its po[CENSORED]tion of roughly 15,000, and seeing the world. He started to make plans. He didn’t want to just see a bit of the world: if possible, he was going to see all of it. “Because the world is complex and vast, and because my general temperament is pretty timid and more towards the shy side, I wanted to be forced into adventure. The point of adventure is it’s uncomfortable and you have to grow in it. “I had $1,000 in my bank account so I needed to find a cheap way to travel, and that led me to the guys who had walked around the world.” He read up about Steve Newman (an American who circumnavigated the globe on foot over four years in the late 1980s) and Karl Bushby (a British ex-paratrooper who set off in 1998 and is still walking today), and now he had his answer. “It seemed to solve everything I wanted out of life,” he says. As in Dead Poets Society, the students in his class shared a deep friendship and trust. When they had to give end-of-year talks to each other, Turcich announced his plan to walk the world. His friends were “genuinely supportive” – and then he told his parents. As a young man, his father, also called Tom, had seized the day: he headed off to Hawaii at the age of 20 and spent four years spear-fishing, working on a sugarcane plantation and living under a tarp in the woods on a tiny plot of land. He met Turcich’s mother, Catherine, at the tail-end of his trip. Tom Sr, who now runs a catering business, remembers how badly affected his son was by Ann Marie’s death. “That really threw him through a loop,” he tells me over the phone from Haddon Township. “It just turned a switch on. Ooof! Boy, if that can happen at 16 I better get living, you know. And all of a sudden, he became real.” Tom Sr thought the world walk was an inspired idea. “For me it was like, go – adventure!” But his wife, Catherine, an artist, was less enthusiastic. What did she think when her son first mentioned the walk? “Hahahaha!” She’s got a lovely bright laugh. “I thought how naive he was. Does he actually think he’s going to walk around the world? I just thought it was a crazy idea, a passing whim.” She pauses. “But Tommy was always somebody who’d get an idea and follow it through. He stuck to a challenge.” “She was like, ‘You’re 17 and this is just a 17-year-old’s idea,’” Turcich says. And she was right. But he wasn’t planning to act on his idea just yet. For the next few years he rarely mentioned it to anybody. He knew that many would dismiss him as fanciful at best. “I don’t like people who just talk about the things they’re going to do,” he says. For the next eight years, Turcich quietly worked away at making it a reality. He graduated with a degree in psychology and philosophy from Moravian University in Pennsylvania, and made a living installing solar panels until he turned 25, at which point he quit and worked as a waiter in a restaurant and at an insurance firm doing data entry. All the while, Turcich was busy making his final preparations. He would endlessly study maps, working out the best routes. Much of it depended on practicalities such as which countries insisted on a visa. He decided to walk to Argentina for the first leg of his trip. Shortly before he was due to leave he met yet another Tom, Tom Marchetty, who customised a baby buggy for his travels. The buggy would hold all his essentials – tent, sleeping bag, laptop, camera, batteries, plastic food crate (partly to hold his food, partly to insulate the smell from animals), water bottles, six pairs of socks, four pairs of underwear, a pair of trousers, a pair of shorts, long-sleeved shirt and short-sleeved shirt, wool shirt, hoodie, jacket and waterproof shoes. 9. PTI Chairman Imran Khan gestures as he speaks during an interview with AFP at his residence in Lahore on May 18, 2023. — AFP Hours after Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah addressed a press conference accusing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of hatching new conspiracies, party chief Imran Khan called out the coalition government for "covering up" the persecution against women in custody. "He [Sanauallah] is so obviously trying to cover up and preempt the horror stories about to break in the media," the former prime minister wrote taking to his Twitter. In a post-midnight presser, Sanaullah claimed intelligence agencies had intercepted a conversation indicating that the PTI was planning two separate actions, which he termed "dramas". Without offering further details, the minister said the intercept revealed the Khan-led party was planning some action at a specific residence, without offering any further details. He also claimed the intercepted conversations indicated that a “rape act” would be committed and blamed on law enforcers. “It was thought that perhaps this drama would be unfolded [tonight] so it was decided to inform the nation of these fiendish designs,” he claimed. Reacting to his presser, Khan said Sanaullah is "so obviously trying to cover up and preempt the horror stories about to break in the media." "If there were any doubts about women being mistreated in jails, this press conference from this certified criminal should remove all such doubts," he wrote on Twitter. The cricketer-turned-politician lamented that women have never been so mistreated and "harassed by the state as they have been by this fascist govt" when they were exercising their right to protest peacefully. Khan's brief arrest earlier this month sparked days of street protests after which the PTI leaders' exodus started, as security forces launched a crackdown against the party following the attacks on civil and military institutions, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s House (Jinnah House). Over 70 lawyers and leaders — including Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, Ali Zaidi, Imran Ismail, Aamir Mehmood Kiani, Malik Amin Aslam, Mahmood Moulvi, Maleeka Bokhari, Mussarrat and Jamshed Cheema among others — have parted ways with the PTI so far, following the May 9 mayhem. In a separate tweet, Khan lamented the raids at Omar Ayub and Shahzad Akbar's residence. “Today we are living in dark ages...Constitution violated, court decisions openly flouted, houses broken in without a warrant and smashed, media muzzled and no one to protect our fundamental rights,” he wrote. Since the crackdown began, Khan has been constantly calling out the government for human, particularly women right's violations. Earlier in a tweet, he acknowledged the way Pakistani women stood up for Haqeeqi Azadi and said it will be remembered. "Also what will never be forgotten is the brutality of our security forces and the shameless way they went out of their way to abuse, hurt and humiliate our women. "Hundreds are languishing in jail in terrible conditions. This too won’t be forgotten," he wrote. https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1074651-rana-sanaullah-trying-to-cover-up-imran-khan-on-minister-confessionary-presser

  11. (CNN) -- The James Webb Space Telescope has captured never-before-seen colorful detail in one of the best-observed remnants of an exploded star. The glowing gas and dust of Cassiopeia A is all that remains of a star that exploded in a supernova and whose light first reached Earth 340 years ago. It is the youngest known supernova remnant in our galaxy, which is why the celestial object has been studied by a multitude of terrestrial and space telescopes. Cassiopeia A lies 11,000 light-years away, in the constellation Cassiopeia, and the remnant extends for 10 light-years. A bright green loop along the right side of the bubble has also caught the interest of researchers. "We named it the Green Monster after Fenway Park in Boston. If you look closely, you can see that it's dotted with what look like mini bubbles," Milisavljevic explains. "Its shape and complexity are unexpected and difficult to understand." The team is still trying to understand the sources of the different colors in the image. Studying supernova remnants like Cas A can help scientists understand cosmic dust, a building block of stars and planets, and how exploding stars release crucial elements for life. https://cnnespanol.cnn.com/2023/04/11/telescopio-webb-monstruo-verde-cassiopeia-supernova-trax/

  19. EU antitrust regulators are asking Microsoft's rivals what kind of customer data they are required to provide to the US tech giant as part of their Azure cloud contracts, six months after a trade group complained about its cloud computing practices. Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers in Europe (CISPE), whose members include Amazon, alleged last November that Microsoft's new contractual terms imposed on October 1 together with other practices were harming the European cloud computing ecosystem. In a questionnaire sent to cloud providers seen by Reuters, the European Commission asked recipients for a list of contractual clauses requiring these companies to report information about their European customers to Microsoft. "The Commission has received several complaints regarding Microsoft, including in relation to its product Azure, which we are assessing based on our standard procedures," a spokesperson for the EU executive said. The EU competition enforcer wanted to know about the frequency of the reporting, the period for which the data is requested, the format of the reporting, and whether the information is sent directly to Microsoft or to an auditor. Recipients, who were given until this week to respond, were asked whether there were contractual, actual, or threatened consequences for not complying with these clauses. Microsoft, hit by more than 1.6 billion euros ($1.8 billion or roughly Rs. 147.17 crore) in EU fines in the previous decade for various antitrust violations, declined to comment. It has made an offer to CISPE in a bid to settle the issue and talks are ongoing, according to a person familiar with the matter. 20. The Apple VR headset is getting close to its rumored arrival at WWDC 2023 on June 5 – and the mixed-reality wearable is expected be launched alongside an exciting new operating system, likely called xrOS. What is xrOS? We may now be approaching iOS 17, iPadOS 16 and macOS 13 Ventura on Apple's other tech, but the Apple VR headset – rumored to be called the Apple Reality One – is expected to debut the first version of a new operating system that'll likely get regular updates just like its equivalents on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The latest leaks suggest that Apple has settled on the xrOS name for its AR/VR headset, but a lot of questions remain. For example, what new things might xrOS allow developers (and us) to do in mixed reality compared to the likes of iOS? And will xrOS run ports of existing Apple apps like Freeform? Here's everything we know so far about xrOS and the kinds of things it could allow Apple's mixed-reality headset to do in both augmented and virtual reality. It looks likely that Apple will launch its new xrOS operating system, alongside its new AR/VR headset, at WWDC 2023 on June 5. If you're looking to tune in, the event's keynote is scheduled to kick off at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST (or 3am ACT on June 6). This doesn't necessarily mean that a final version of xrOS will be released on that day. A likely scenario is that Apple will launch an xrOS developer kit to allow software makers to develop apps and experiences for the new headset. While not a typical Apple approach, this is something it has done previously for the Apple TV and other products. A full version of xrOS 1.0 could then follow when the headset hits shelves in late 2023. The software's name now at least looks set in stone. As spotted by Parker Ortolani on Twitter on May 16, Apple trademarked the 'xrOS' name in its traditional 'SF Pro' typeface in New Zealand, via a shell company. We'd previously seen reports from Bloomberg that 'xrOS' would be the name for Apple's mixed-reality operating system, but the timing of this discovery (and the font used) bolster the rumors that it'll be revealed at WWDC 2023. A report from Apple leaker Mark Gurman on December 1, 2022, suggested that Apple had "recently changed the name of the operating system to “xrOS” from “realityOS," and that the name stands for "extended reality". This term covers both augmented reality (which overlays information on the real world) and virtual reality, a more sealed experience that we're familiar with on the likes of the Meta Quest 2. While xrOS is expected to have an iOS-like familiarity – with apps, widgets and a homescreen – the fact that the Apple AR/VR headset will apparently run both AR and VR experiences, and also use gesture inputs, explains why a new operating system has been created and will likely be previewed for developers at WWDC. WHAT IS XROS? Apple's xrOS platform could take advantage of the AR/VR headset's unique hardware, which includes an array of chips, cameras and sensors. It's different from ARKit, the software that lets your iPhone or iPad run AR apps. Apple's xrOS is also expected to lean heavily on the design language seen on the iPhone, in order to help fans feel at home. According to Bloomberg's Gurman, xrOS "will have many of the same features as an iPhone and iPad but in a 3D environment". This means we can expect an iOS-like interface, complete with re-arrangeable apps, customizable widgets and a homescreen. Apple is apparently also creating an App Store for the headset. See more Stock apps on the AR/VR headset will apparently include Apple's Safari, Photos, Mail, Messages and Calendar apps, plus Apple TV Plus, Apple Music and Podcasts. App developers will also be able to take advantage of its health-tracking potential. Gurman says that the headset experience will feel familiar to Apple fans – when you put it on, he claims that "the main interface will be nearly identical to that of the iPhone and iPad, featuring a home screen with a grid of icons that can be reorganized". But how will you type when wearing the Apple Reality Pro (as it's rumored to be called)? After all, there probably won't be any controllers. Spacetop computer used in public The Sightful Spacetop (above) gives us a glimpse of how the Apple AR/VR headset could work us a virtual Mac display. (Image credit: Sightful) Instead, you'll apparently be able to type using a keyboard on an iPhone, Mac or iPad. There's also the slightly less appealing prospect of using the Siri voice assistant. Apple is rumored to be creating a system that lets you type in mid-air, but Gurman claims that this feature "is unlikely to be ready for the initial launch". It's possible that you'll be able to connect the headset to a Mac, with the headset serving as the Mac's display. We've recently seen a glimpse of how this might work with the Spacetop (above), a laptop that connects to some NReal AR glasses to give you a massive 100-inch virtual display. WHAT APPS WILL RUN ON XROS? We've already mentioned that Apple's AR/VR headset will likely run some optimized versions of existing stock apps, including Safari, Photos, Mail, Messages, Contacts, Reminders, Maps and Calendar. But given that those apps aren't exactly crying out for a reinvention in AR or VR, they're likely to be sideshows to some of the more exciting offerings from both Apple and third-party developers. So what might those be? Here are some of the most interesting possibilities, based on the latest rumors and what we've seen on the likes of the Meta Quest Pro. 1. Apple Fitness Plus An AR fitness experience on the Litesport app Apps like Litesport (above) give us a glimpse of AR fitness experiences that could arrive of Apple's headset. (Image credit: Litesport) Assuming the Apple AR/VR headset is light and practical enough for workouts – which is something we can't say for the Apple AirPods Max headphones – then it definitely has some AR fitness potential. According to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman on April 18, Apple is planning to tap that potential with "a version of its Fitness+ service for the headset, which will let users exercise while watching an instructor in VR". Of course, VR fitness experiences are nothing new, and we've certainly enjoyed some of the best Oculus Quest fitness games. An added AR component could make them even more powerful and motivating, with targets added to your real-world view. 2. Apple Freeform The Freeform app on an iPad on an orange background (Image credit: Apple) We called Apple's Freeform, which gives you a blank canvas to brainstorm ideas with others, "one of its best software releases in years". And it could be taken to the next level with a version of AR or VR. Sure enough, Bloomberg's aforementioned report claims that "Apple is developing a version of its Freeform collaboration app for the headset", which it apparently "sees as a major selling point for the product". Okay, work-themed AR/VR work experiences might not sound thrilling and we certainly had misgivings after working for a whole week in VR with the Meta Quest Pro. But mixed-reality whiteboards also sound potentially fun, particularly if we get to play around with them in work time. 3. Apple TV Plus A basketball team scoring in a NextVR stream (Image credit: NextVR) Because Apple's headset will have a VR flipside to its AR mode, it has huge potential for letting us watch TV and video on giant virtual screens, or in entirely new ways. This means that Apple TV Plus will also likely be pre-installed in xrOS. Another claim from that Bloomberg report on April 18 was that "one selling point for the headset will be viewing sports in an immersive way". This makes sense, given Apple already has deals for Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer on Apple TV Plus. And while they're only rumors, Apple has also considered bidding for Premier League soccer rights in the UK. Well, it'd be cheaper than a season ticket for Manchester United. 4. FaceTime Joining a call through FaceTime links in macOS 12 Monterey (Image credit: Apple) While we haven't been blown away by our experiences with VR meetings in Horizon Workrooms on the Meta Quest, the Apple mixed-reality headset will apparently deliver a next-gen version of FaceTime – and the Reality Pro's hardware could take the whole experience up a notch, With an earlier report from The Information suggesting that Apple's headset will have at least 12 cameras (possibly 14) to track your eyes, face, hands and body, it should do a decent job of creating a 3D version of you in virtual meeting rooms. We still haven't really seen a major real-world benefit to VR video meets, even if you can do them from a virtual beach. But we're looking forward to trying it out, while crossing our virtual fingers that it works more consistently than today's non-VR FaceTime. 5. Adobe Substance 3D Modeler Adobe has already released some compelling demos, plus some beta software called Substance 3D Modeler (above), showing the potential of its creative apps in VR headsets. Will that software's list of compatible headsets soon include the Apple Reality Pro? It certainly seems possible. The software effectively lets you design 3D objects using virtual clay in a VR playground. Quite how this would work with Apple's headset on xrOS isn't clear, given it's rumored to lack any kind of physical controllers. These kinds of design tools feel like a shoo-in for Apple's headset, given many of its users are already happy to shell out thousands on high-end Macs and MacBooks to use that kind of software in a 2D environment. https://www.techradar.com/news/apple-xros
