Link : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/marksparrow/2022/03/14/these-handy-satechi-gadgets-are-ideal-for-imacs-and-spreadsheeters/amp/ Anything that makes my life easier when I am working is fine by me. Computers have changed the way we do stuff like drafting reports, analyzing data and a hundred and one other tasks, but often the things that make work easier are the simple gadgets that can speed up workflow.Today, I’m looking at two new gadgets from Satechi. The brand has been busy lately releasing a slew of new USB-C hubs and docking stations, but the company also makes a range of stands for iPhones, iPads and even iMacs. The Satechi Type-C Aluminum Monitor Stand Hub for iMac is one of those bits of kits you wish you had discovered years ago. This sturdy aluminum stand is available in both Silver and Space Gray finishes and can accommodate any size of iMac with a weight of up to 14kg or 31lbs. It takes up hardly any extra space on the desktop than the pedestal of an iMac and it comes with a USB-C cable that plugs into one of the spare USB ports on the back of an iMac. It can be plugged into the USB-C/Thunderbolt ports or one of the iMac’s regular USB-A ports using the supplied adaptor. The cable connects the iMac to the stand which has three USB-A ports, a USB-C port, two slots for SD and MicroSD memory cards., plus a combined 3.5mm analog headset jack with its own DAC. This handy port can be used for plugging in a pair of headphones for listening to music or else it can accommodate a headset for making Zoom, Teams or Skype calls. The stand is perfect for plugging in memory cards, USB thumb drives, various dongles, a keyboard or almost anything that can be supported by the output voltage of an iMac’s USB ports. The maximum data throughput of the ports is up to 5Gbps and the speed of the memory card slots is 104Mbps. Because the ports are all arranged across the front of the stand, it means there’s no more fumbling around the back of the iMac trying to locate a spare USB slot or headphone jack. It’s not an especially hi-tech piece of kit but what it does, it does well and simply makes working on an iMac so much easier. The second gadget I’m featuring today is also from Satechi. It’s the brand’s Extended Wireless Keypad. Usually, I use a compact Mac keyboard like the excellent Logitech MX Mini that doesn’t take up very much space on my desk. However, each day I update the viewing figures on a spreadsheet to keep track of the visitors to my Forbes page. That’s when I miss the numeric keypad I would normally have if I were using an extended keyboard. Frankly, it’s a pain entering a lot of figures without a numeric keypad.Satechi’s Extended Wireless Keypad is like a numeric keypad on steroids. This compact keypad can connect to a Mac or PC using either Bluetooth or a USB cable. There’s a rechargeable battery inside the super-slim keypad and pairing to a computer, whether that be a laptop or desktop, takes seconds. Once paired, every time the keypad is turned on, it will automatically connect to the computer. As well as having the traditional numeric keypad, this little gadget also has a cursor cluster and function keys from F13 to F15. It also features other keys like Page Up, Page Down, Home and Forward Delete. It simply adds all the keys you would normally have if you were using an extended keyboard. It’s simple to connect and makes moving around a spreadsheet, entering data and navigating cells a breeze. Once you’ve finished your spreadsheet, just turn the keypad off and put it away in your desk drawer. Then you have your desk space back.If you’ve ever struggled to navigate a spreadsheet or enter data using a compact keyboard or a laptop, this little gem will solve your frustration and it doesn’t cost a lot. At this price, you don’t get backlit keys, so if you’re the type of person who pores over spreadsheets in the dark, you may want to upgrade to a backlit keypad.Verdict: The Satechi Type-C Aluminum Monitor Stand Hub for iMac is a no-brainer if you have an iMac. It makes life so much easier and even raises the height of an iMac by a useful 4.5cm or just under two inches. There’s even space under the stand for storing the Satechi Extended Wireless Keypad for those wild spreadsheeting sessions. The Extended Wireless Keypad with its extra functions is a great way of getting the productivity of a full-sized keyboard on the occasions when you need it without hogging the whole desk When it’s not needed, simply slip it under the Satechi Type-C Aluminum Monitor Stand Hub for iMac until you the next time you need it. Pricing & Availability: The Satechi Type-C Aluminum Monitor Stand Hub for iMac is available now and costs $89 / £99 / €85.44 from Amazon. The Satechi Extended Wireless Keypad is also available now from Amazon and is priced at $44.99 / £49.99 / €42.99. It’s available in Silver with white keys or in Space Gray with black keys. There is also a compact version of the keypad available for a few dollars less without the extended keys. More info: www.satechi.net
  2. Link : https://www.google.com/amp/s/techwireasia.com/amp/2022/03/full-visibility-on-software-supply-chain-can-reduce-cyberattacks/ Software supply chain attacks continue a big concern for organizations around the world. In 2021 alone, reports show that software supply chain attacks grew by 300% with some of the biggest organizations in the world affected. According to research, more than three in five companies were targeted by software supply chain attacks in 2021. Log4J and the attacks in Kaseya are just some of the notable software supply chain attacks in 2021. Gartner predicts that by 2025, 45% of organizations worldwide will have experienced attacks on their software supply chains, a three-fold increase from 2021. As such, businesses need to have a complete view of where potential vulnerabilities or misconfigurations exist in the software supply chain. This will allow organizations to quickly trace to the source and fix them. Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42’s Cloud Threat Report also found that access to hardcoded credentials opened the door for lateral movement and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline poisoning. The problem is that many current solutions only provide vulnerability and misconfiguration information at a resource layer in code or the cloud. Hence, Palo Alto Network’s Prisma Cloud Supply Chain Security, Prisma Cloud provides not only full lifecycle visibility and protection but the context of where a vulnerability fits into the layers of a cloud architecture. “Every day new vulnerabilities are found in open source and other software components that have previously been integrated into the organization’s software code. Without the proper tools, it is very difficult for organizations to quickly spot where they have used the unpatched versions of these components,” said Ankur Shah, senior vice president, Prisma Cloud products, Palo Alto Networks. Shah explained that Prisma Cloud is designed to help protect organizations from code to cloud; and now that customers can visualize their software supply chain, it’s easier to spot, prioritize, and remediate security weaknesses at the onset of development and during delivery pipelines. Not only does the Prisma Cloud Supply Chain Security help provide a full stack, full lifecycle approach to securing the interconnected components, it can also help to identify vulnerabilities and misconfigurations in code. Organizations can better assess the attack surface of their delivery pipelines and all connected application and infrastructure resources to be better equipped to help prevent supply chain attacks. Shah also pointed out that implementing Prisma Cloud supply chain security as part of a zero trust architecture is one of the best ways an organization can prevent software supply chain attacks. Meanwhile, Melinda Marks; ESG Senior Analyst, Application and Cloud Security believes the new enhancements in Prisma Cloud allow DevOps and security teams to fully understand their software supply chains so they can identify and remediate coding flaws to secure their cloud-native applications As Marks puts it, “a thriving community creating a vast array of open-source software helps developers accelerate their coding and product delivery, but it increases the attack surface if you can’t make sure the code is secure.”
  3. Link : https://www.scmagazine.com/perspective/hardware-security/why-security-pros-should-care-about-hardware-security- We all want and need security: it’s a basic human instinct that applies to all aspects of life. From the prehistoric days of a cave and bonfire, security has evolved to the cyber domain in our modern world. Today, there’s a large focus on endpoint and network security, with enterprises investing heavily in these areas. However, hardware security gets neglected, leaving a massive gap in defense capabilities. But how do we define hardware security? And if enterprises seem to ignore it, should we pay attention to it? What is hardware security? Hardware security functions as an essential component of cybersecurity. Through Layer 1 visibility, hardware security provides enterprises with a complete picture of all assets within their infrastructure. This lets enterprises gain proper control over their assets and ensure policy enforcement, which is paramount to a strong cybersecurity posture. Further, asset visibility equips enterprises with the means to identify rogue and vulnerable devices that could get used to execute a hardware-based attack. Why are so many security pros unaware of hardware security? The lack of hardware security awareness largely stems from its lack of media coverage. Now, one may think that if the topic were so important, it would receive widespread recognition. Well, ironically, because of a lack of hardware security, hardware-based threats go unidentified. Mani[CENSORED]ted devices operate on Layer 1, where existing security solutions, such as NAC, EPS, IDS, or IoT Network Security, are not covered. As a result, without hardware security in place, there’s no mechanism to detect suspicious activity occurring on the physical layer, Layer 1. Instead, enterprises are under the false pretense that there are no hardware vulnerabilities. Similarly, should a hardware-based attack take place, it gets misdiagnosed as a quotidian attack. The visibility gap makes it near impossible to correctly identify the attack's origin (i.e. a hardware attack tool), meaning it gets wrongly attributed to a traditional vector, such as phishing or a zero-day software exploit. With the illusory perception that there are no hardware vulnerabilities or attacks taking place, media outlets have little to report. In some cases, hardware-based attacks do get correctly identified, Stuxnet arguably being the most famous example. However, the successful identification of a hardware breach in the absence of hardware security requires significant resources; assets must get individually inspected to locate the origin of the attack, an extremely time consuming and costly task. But many victims of hardware-based attacks are unwilling to come forward because of the embarrassment of the breach. Likewise, because of the sophisticated nature of hardware attack tools, victims of hardware-based attacks are often critical infrastructure providers, and shielding such information from the public rises to the level of a national security issue. As such, with the concealment of hardware-based attacks, reporters are once again left without any content to publish. Why should security pros care about hardware security? Rogue devices can carry out a range of malicious activities depending on their payload. From data theft and espionage to malware/ransomware injection and DDoS attacks. These rogue devices are extremely perilous tools. Because of their covert nature, these hardware attack tools undermine existing security solutions, allowing for lateral movement across the network, even bypassing air-gapped networks. This leads to the attack surface expanding significantly as the number of entry points dramatically increases. For critical infrastructure, rogue devices pose a significant threat as an attack on the cyber-physical systems can cause operational downtime, the effects of which spill over into the physical world. Further, with rogue devices going undetected, inconspicuous attacks, such as data theft and espionage, can persist for extended periods, thus exacerbating the severity of the attack. Such features are not lost on bad actors. USB-borne threats increased by 37% in 2021, according to research by Honeywell, indicating a growing risk. In today’s environment, with the large, and continuously expanding attack surface, hardware threats can enter through various access points, aggravating the risk. Without Layer 1 visibility, such threats go undetected, which leaves the enterprise unknowingly vulnerable and incapable of managing the risk. Therefore, by delivering complete asset visibility, hardware security ensures proper policy enforcement and protection against hardware-based attacks, effectively managing the risk. So, while the industry does not talk much about hardware security, it doesn’t mean that security pros should overlook it. Sometimes, industry experts have to raise an issue, and we feel the need to do that with hardware security.

  7. Link : https://www.channele2e.com/business/enterprise/sap-software-partner-fees-falling-rising-and-countering-salesforce-appexchange/ SAP is rethinking its financial model for software partnerships — the alliances and relationships that allow independent software vendors (ISVs) to integrate and cross-sell each others’ products, a report said. Part of the strategy appears designed to help SAP’s Online Marketplace compete more effectively vs. Salesforce AppExchange, ChannelE2E believes. In some cases, SAP is preparing to reduce its software partnership fees. In other cases, the Germany-based software giant is preparing to raise the partnership fees, a report indicated. Among the details that surfaced in a Bloomberg interview with SAP Senior VP Tom Roberts: SAP is eliminating the fee for a vast majority of partners to gain access to its online marketplace. Many will also pay a lower fee to connect into SAP’s systems, down to 15% of product revenue from 20%. The changes are expected to be announced imminently, Bloomberg reported. Moreover, SAP is hoping to deepen its partnership with a smaller group of invitation-only companies. There would be no set royalty fee for these software vendors. Instead, SAP is seeking to negotiate individual contracts with each. While the fees will ultimately be higher than what some partners were paying before, SAP argued that the agreements will come with added benefits, like additional sales support, Bloomberg reported.SAP Online Marketplace vs. Salesforce AppExchange The headline on the Bloomberg report emphasized SAP’s effort to raise fees on its largest software partners. While accurate, the headline overlooks potential good news for smaller and emerging software companies that want to work more closely with SAP — especially in terms of online sales. Indeed, low-cost or no-cost access to SAP’s online marketplace could allow small software partners to more rapidly scale their businesses — while freeing up funds to invest more channel partner programs, ChannelE2E believes. The SAP online marketplace model may also allow SAP to compete more aggressively against the Salesforce.com AppExchange, ChannelE2E believes. Indeed, the Salesforce AppExchange takes a 15% share of ISV sales, and a 25% share of OEM sales, according to MagicFuse. Also, software companies pay Salesforce $2,700 in year-one and $300 annually thereafter for Salesforce to check the security of applications listed in the marketplace, MagicFuse notes. It’s also important to note: It sounds like the updated SAP software partner fee strategy truly focuses on software companies. The Bloomberg report did not mention any new or changing fees for SAP’s IT consulting and MSP partners — though consulting firms and MSPs that develop their own applications may want to check in with SAP about the fee strategy.SAP Business Transition to Cloud Services SAP, like rival Oracle, has been transitioning from traditional client-server software licenses to cloud-based subscription services. SAP’s quarterly revenue was €$7.981 billion (US$8.71 billion) in Q4 of 2021, up 6 percent from Q4 in 2020, the company announced in January 2022.Related Content More SAP Partner News MSP 250: Top 250 Public Cloud MSPs for AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google MSP 100: Top 100 Vertical Market MSPs Conference Calendar: Channel Partner and MSP Events M&A Deal List: Technology Mergers and Acquisitions Subscribe to Our Daily Newsletter
  8. Link : https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-patch-reveals-three-arc-dg2-gpus-soc3-with-256-eus Intel has released a new patch to its graphics system controller firmware update library for Linux. This patch reveals two DG2 SKUs, including variants with 128 EUs and 256 EUs running on a new die known as SOC3. According to hardware leaker Komachi_Ensaka on Twitter, he believes this new die could pack a total of 256 EUs since the biggest SKU mentioned in the patch notes was a 256 EU model. The latest development is quite attractive since it means there is evidence Intel is making a third die for its discrete DG2 GPUs, whereas previously we've only theorized that Intel would use two dies and disabled cores for lower-end/mid-range SKUs when necessary. We initially thought Intel would use its maximum 512EU die for both its mid-range 256 EU SKU, 448 EU SKU, and flagship 512 EU configuration. But, if a 256EU die is going to be around, Intel can use both its flagship die and this mid-range SOC3 die for multiple mid-range and high-end SKUs.Intel might be making a lot of mid-range DG2 SKUs, to the point where making a dedicated 256 EU die will be needed, instead of using a lot of 512 EU dies with disabled cores -- which wastes extra silicon that the chipmaker can use elsewhere. However, VideoCardz speculates that SOC3 might not be on the cards for Intel as the company has not announced the die in leaked slides. So there's also a chance that Intel could scrap 256 EU die.Early leaks claimed that there would be three tiers of DG2 GPUs coming from Intel, a baseline A300 series with a max of 128 EUs and 6GB of VRAM, a mid-range A500 series with a maximum of 256 EUs, and 12GB of VRAM, and a flagship A700 series with a maximum of 512 EUs and 16GB of VRAM. If Intel plans to release a SOC3 die in the future, each series of DG2 GPUs will have its die. The A300 series will get its own 128 EU die, the A500 series will get the SOC3 die with 256 EUs, and the A700 series with SOC1 featuring a 512 EU die.

In the video, allegedly shot by another inmate, the prisoner was seen enjoying comforts like a sofa and television. There were also allegations that he was getting special food, alcohol and cigarettes, which he secured by paying bribes. Post the incident, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai himself intervened in the matter and directed officials to order a probe. “The act would only make it punishable for those who get special privileges like food and cigarettes. With this, we have added even mobile phones and other electronic gadgets,” said a person aware of the developments, requesting not to be named. The new direction will attract higher penalties to those bringing or smuggling in these gadgets, according to the decision taken by the state cabinet. The amendment will carry a jail term and fine for even those who facilitate such acts inside the jail. In July 2017, then Deputy Inspector General (DIG) prisons, D Roopa, had submitted a report of widespread corruption, drug abuse, mismanagement and an alleged bribe paid by VK Sasikala, who was then the AIADMK general secretary for preferential treatment while housed in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara jail. Roopa, in her report, stated that during her visit to Parappana Agrahara on 10 July 2017, she found Sasikala was provided with a separate kitchen among other serious irregularities which include drug abuse, unregulated movement of prisoners, threatening and assault of medical staff by prisoners for favourable reports among other serious charges.

  14. Link : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wtae.com/amp/article/winter-storm-pittsburgh-hardware-stores-salt-hard-to-come-by/39414633 PENN HILLS, Pa. — The majority of hardware stores in the Pittsburgh area have transitioned their inventory from winter supplies to spring, and with the anticipated snow coming Saturday, store managers say salt may be hard to come by. "We have transitioned into the spring," said Richard Jackley, the manager at Eastwood Hardware in Penn Hills. "We have fertilizer, dirt, mulch, grass seed and we had to make room for it, so we had to stop the salt."Eastwood Hardware had a few snow shovels out on Friday evening ahead of Saturday's anticipated snow, but Jackley said they ran out of salt about two months ago. "It was starting to get really tough to get because, of the huge storm that came through the entire Midwest," he said. "Our supplier is in the Midwest so they're going everywhere else." Over in Mt. Lebanon, Rollier's Hardware store had some buckets of ice melt, snow shovels and brushes. However, the manager at Rollier's told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 they have also already transitioned to spring, and have found getting their hands on salt hasn't been easy. "It isn't uncommon that this late in, what we call a season, that our distributors are scaling back and not looking to bring in more (winter) inventory," Rollier's manager, Doug Satterfield said. "As far as the season to sell product, most of the stores have moved on to what we want to sell for the spring season." Satterfield added he noticed warehouse distributors had trouble with supply stores with salt due to this year's winter season. "It's a little bit of the supply chain, but it's more the transition into spring, it's not worth having the pallets of salt for one snowstorm," Jackley told Pittsburgh's Action News 4. "If you're looking for salt, it's going to be very tough to come by."

  19. Link : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.standard.co.uk/shopping/esbest/gadgets-tech/best-smart-plugs-b986055.html%3famp With the rise in smart technology, our homes are becoming smarter than ever and the latest homeware appliance to be revolutionised is the humble plug. Smart plugs allow you to control your household appliances anywhere with just the click of a button. Gone are the days you cave to the niggling feeling of whether you definitely did unplug your straighteners. So, what is a smart plug? Whilst it might look like your standard plug, once plugged into a wall socket and connected to Wi-Fi, a smart plug allows you to control any household gadget directly from your phone. For example, with a smart plug you can switch the kettle on whilst you’re on your commute home or get the coffee machine grinding from the comfort of your bed as you snooze your morning alarm. The smart plug can also be synced up with a smart home hub such as a Google Home or Amazon Echo, allowing you to switch the lamp on with the help of Alexa through voice enabled commands. Many of the smart plugs we tested work with a platform named IFTTT, “if this, then that” which allows differently branded gadgets to all work together seamlessly. Can a smart plug save you money? As energy prices soar, these nifty gadgets will definitely help save you precious pennies. The scheduling feature on many of these smart plugs allows you to set timers and duration periods for lights and heating so you don’t waste energy when it’s not necessary. Overall, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory found that smart plugs can save a household anywhere between one and 4.58 per cent of energy usage, equal to 500-1000 kilowatts a year. Knowing where to start with smart plugs can be confusing so we’ve rounded up the best on the market.
