  4. Link : https://www.todaysmedicaldevelopments.com/article/generative-design-software-medical-devices-medtech/ The medical world has seen numerous technological advancements in the past decades. They have consistently been pushing the boundaries of learning and improvement. Generative design software is one such advancement. It has been a revolutionary boon to various fields such as engineering, design, architecture, etc. It has been extensively used in the medical field as well – to outstanding results. If you are considering including generative design software in your medical practice, this post is for you. Read on to know the many benefits of generative design software and how it can help you transform medical procedures and devices.Generative Design Software: the tool that eases the process of designing medical devices Generative design software can be defined as engineering software that allows you to partner up with artificial intelligence to create better designs. In this process, you and the AI algorithms create and evaluate numerous designs for a single product idea to land on the one best suited for it. The idea is to create better designs in less time. These designs are prepared for maximum optimization after accounting for every contingency. You can accomplish this with the use of a host of tools that drive operations, optimization, and workflows. nTopology's generative design software is one of the leading software when it comes to designing medical devices and equipment. Here is everything you need to know about how you can transform your medical practice with generative design software.1. Generative design software over other tools Perhaps the first order of business when it comes to choosing a method is determining it should be preferred over the others. The world of medical treatment and practice is nothing if not constantly evolving. New breakthroughs are made that completely change the way we operate things, benefiting patients better and healing them in a more holistic way. Generative design is in the league of such developments that completely change the way we go about things. Creating medical devices with the use of this software is simply a better approach to the traditional tools when it comes to the money, time, and effort you put in. You can explore hundreds of potential designs, evaluate them at length before landing on the one that suits you best. This saves you hours of testing out various formulations to decide which one is the best. You don’t even have to upgrade the devices as you already get to pick the best design for the current technology i.e., the most optimized design.2. Ease of operations When we talk about the ease of use that comes with generative design, we mean both the ease of using said software and the overall ease of the process it brings to your medical practice. First, talking about using the software – it can be well integrated with your existing system to be used in tandem with it. You don’t have to mold your existing system as per the software. In fact, the menus can be set up based on the context – manually or automatically. Moreover, the software will sync itself to your system. You can also incorporate its results into your workflow. Eventually, it allows you to work faster and more efficiently. Since you don’t have to adjust to anything new, you can simply shift your work to the software and continue working there, this time with a much better approach. It gives you an optimized work structure with an increased testing speed. You can potentially test out hundreds of designs for a single product without wasting any resources to see its functionality.3. Innovation With this software, you don't just design parts for your medical equipment – you design complete processes. Therein lies the innovation as you get to take complete control of your workflows and oversee the complete process. Generative design software coupled with the AI aids your capabilities as a medical device engineer. It allows you to design better, test more options and eventually innovate in your field. With accelerated development cycles you will get to take advantage of the manufacturing technologies. The output you so receive can either be represented as an aid for additive manufacturing or incorporated into the downstream processes. Both offer distinctive advantages, depending on the path you wish to take with your process. Once you set your goals and objective, you can simply let the software take over. The designs will be created and optimized for your requirement. You do not need to put the manual work in as you did in the established practices.4. Data-driven optimization If we were to break down the approach of generative design software, we would see that the software builds on the traditional design approach. It applies computing powers and optimization techniques to concoct a sustainable design. It then thoroughly tests it for optimization to make sure you have nothing but the best formulation for your perusal. This approach builds medical devices that are much more sound and foolproof. As a medical equipment manufacturer, you should strive to create tools that are safe and sturdy while offering ease of use. The software allows you to create such devices with maximum optimization. It is backed with data and results, leaving no room for fallacies. Additionally, the software can work in tandem with additive technology if you use that. In case you don’t, the software will work just as well with the traditional technology. In other words, you don’t have to upgrade the way you manufacture your devices to match the cutting-edge technology of the software. The software itself will mold to fit the way you operate. As mentioned earlier, it can also be seen in the results and menu of the operations.5. Tools for every course of action Generative design software offers a multitude of tools that aid and enable every kind of operation you perform. You get a plethora of computation tools. They analyze and generate requirements and constraints that match the requirement you have set in advance. Similarly, you get optimal design workflows for latticing operations and top-notch optimization. They map out the best route for you to take based on historical and current data, leaving you the hard work. This is better as earlier, you would have to compute all the possible routes for the most-suitable design models manually. Such labor would restrict you from analyzing all possible solutions. You could only test out the calculations of a handful of alternatives. With this software, not only can you compute a number of options, you can also create your own algorithms. This helps you automate and optimize the best process for your designs. You can collaborate your own formulations with external designs to truly innovate.6. Serves multiple objectives One of the most unique features of such software is its ability to fulfill multiple objectives at the same time. It takes into account the specifications you put in every aspect. This includes specifications of stress, weight, temperature, and frequency. It also takes into account the overall goal that needs to be accomplished. Not just that, it makes sure that you remain within guidelines and do not overstep them. In other words, it takes into consideration what you want to accomplish against the regulatory restrictions. Therefore, it concocts up formulations that serve the goal you set for it while fulfilling the industry standard as well. This gives you true optimization without spending much time and effort on various tests. Your goals can be as specific or as vague as you want. Suppose you don’t have a specification for weight and are willing to experiment around on it. In such a case, you can simply set all other objectives and the weight will come up based on the best optimization.7. Integrates other tools and creates a seamless workflow If you are wondering about the software’s compatibility with other tools you use, fret not. The generative design software works seamlessly with major software such as CAE, PLM, and CAD. You don’t have to worry about integrating it with them, no data will be lost there. Additionally, it also works perfectly fine with engineering formats like STEP, Parasolid, 3MF, STL, and FE meshes. The list also includes 3D scanning data. No data will be lost while you import and export files from one platform to another. You can also import experiment engineering data to give it a go in the software. Don’t worry, this will not corrupt the software in any way. Experimental engineering data is fully supported in the software. Such data is immediately turned into geometrics, making it available to be used in operations at the earliest. Conclusion The generative design methodology is already making waves in the fields of engineering, art, and design. It is well making its way into the medical realm as well. If you are looking to revamp the way you manufacture and design medical devices, the generative design software will be the perfect ally for you. Get started with it today.

  10. Link : https://www.google.com/amp/s/screenrant.com/old-tech-devices-gadgets-ewaste-wall-art-xreart/amp/ As the world grapples with the issue of e-waste, an innovative photography company is turning broken, obsolete and unused tech products into 'deconstructed art.' While the pieces are definitely a collector's dream, their long-term impact might be on the environment. Technology advancements have improved critical aspects of human life, such as healthcare, communication, and access to information, but at an environmental cost. Every product, from cars to smartphones, has an impact on the environment through its production and continued use. Even products that do not exist in the physical world, like NFTs and the metaverse, impact the environment in ways some may have not yet considered. It's relatively easy to understand how the production of consumer products like smartphones harm the environment. They require a certain amount of natural resources for production, undergo production processes that require power, and release toxic gases into the atmosphere. However, the environmental consequences of wireless services like cryptocurrency, streaming and the metaverse are much more discreet. These services require the same production processes in the servers that keep them going while also consuming as much power as a small country. That's why the technology industry has to constantly rethink how it handles its environmental impact and e-waste. Xreart has taken this mission to protect the environment from e-waste a step further, turning the concept into a profitable business model, according to the company's website. Established back in 2019 as Xreart Studio, specializing in product photography and marketing, the company has since shifted from photography to deconstructing and framing old technology products. Xreart explains that the team expressed concern with how obsolete products are destined for landfills, contributing to the long-term problem of e-waste. Then, when one of its lead photographers broke an iPhone beyond repair, the idea of framing the smartphone's components emerged.Xreart's products feature some of the most iconic devices of the 2000s and 2010s in teardown form. It's common to see consumer products deconstructed for review or repair purposes, but seeing a product torn down as art is unique. The company collects used phones and other electronics from bulk suppliers which would traditionally be destined for disposal in a landfill. Instead, Xreart cleans and deconstructs the devices before overlaying them in custom frames. Potentially-dangerous components — like batteries — are withheld, but all other components are overlaid and identified by name or use. The end result is a statement piece for any technology lover or collector, but it's environmentally-friendly nature is what stands out. Every product that ends up as a framed piece of art is one that does not end up as e-waste in a landfill. While reuse and recycling are both great options to keep the environment free of e-waste, there comes a time when products can no longer be used daily or even for parts. When that time comes, it's better to see these tech products salvaged and turned into art than end up as another concern to the planet's environment.

Link : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.radioworld.com/global/wedel-software-suspends-operations-in-russia%3famp According to a LinkedIn post by Wedel Software CEO Raoul Wedel, the Netherlands-based company is halting its operations in Russia immediately. “Today’s news out of Tsjernihiv and Borodyanka is heartbreaking and are war crimes. No company, person or organization should financially support a regime deliberately killing innocent civilians,” he wrote. According to Reuters, 47 people were killed in Russian airstrikes on Tsjernihiv, also transliterated as Chernihiv, on Thursday, Mar. 3. According to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, civilian areas in Borodyanka were hit by Russian airstrikes and artillery shells the same day. Reached via email, Wedel said that the software company, which develops traffic, billing, sales, and other back-office tools for media companies, has had a portion of its R&D efforts in Russia for the past eight year and before that those efforts were in Ukraine for five years. In his post, Wedel noted that the company has “20 or so” employees in Russia. “We have employees in Donetsk, Rostov-on-Don, Moscow and St. Petersburg,” stated Wedel. “None of them support this war, and they are just trying to provide for their families.” Wedel said the company does not expect any short-term problems from pulling out of Russia, but it will need to regroup its R&D efforts in the near future. “Even if the war would end soon, the country will remain unstable and sanctioned as long as Putin is in power,” Wedel said. “The decision was on one hand heartbreaking; on the other hand, I feel we have no choice, and people must unite against these war crimes,” wrote Wedel. “I hope this story will make more companies consider cutting all their ties with Russia.” Wedel Software is headquartered in The Hauge, Netherlands, and has offices in New York, San Francisco, Mexico City, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Researchers from the University of Basel in Switzerland claimed that AirPods, 'pencils' and iPhones have powerful magnetic fields that could potentially stop implanted cardiac devices (ICD) working, Daily Mail reported. According to the team, 'any' electrical device containing a magnet could theoretically pose a 'danger' to patients who rely on ICDs to jolt their heart back into rhythm, the report said. "The public need to be aware of the potential risks of portable electronic devices," Dr Sven Knecht, from the varsity was quoted as saying. The study, published in the journal of the American Heart Association, showed the Apple products could not be placed closer than 0.78inches, or 2 cm, without interfering with ICDs. But the Microsoft product, which costs 70 pounds, could not be within 1.1 inch (2.9 cm), the report said. The team advised patients fitted with the pacemaker-like gadgets to not keep electronics in pockets near their chest. According to American Heart Association guidelines, all mobiles should be kept at least 15 cm away from pacemakers to minimise the risks. Microsoft, in a statement, recommended customers to "follow previously published guidance which recommends the device is kept at least 6inch (15cm) from pacemakers and ICDs". In a separate study, researchers from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, found that most Apple Watch users won't get health benefits of getting an alert about atrial fibrillation, a type of irregular heart rhythm, the Verge reported. The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, showed only 0.25 per cent of people wearing an Apple Watch would qualify for anticoagulants if they had atrial fibrillation flagged by the device. "Most of the people who are connecting their devices wouldn't have anticoagulants recommended anyway, even if they were found to have atrial fibrillation, so it wasn't going to change any prescribing," Josh Pevnick, co-director in the division of informatics at Cedars-Sinai was quoted as saying. "It can cause anxiety for people who it identifies, and if there's no treatment, then you're maybe not bringing much benefit," he added. Follow Gadgets Now on Facebook and Twitter. Link : https://www.datanami.com/2022/03/03/software-ag-to-acquire-streamsets/ Veteran German enterprise software company Software AG — coming up on its 55th anniversary — is bringing another company into its fold: San Francisco-based StreamSets, which has been offering an enterprise-grade data integration platform to its customers for the past eight years. In announcing the acquisition, StreamSets AG touted StreamSets’ “sizable and fast-growing” SaaS business and its rapidly growing revenue. StreamSets’ platform is billed as a “single, fully managed, end-to-end platform for smart data pipelines,” offering a unified design experience across data patterns and support for hybrid and multi-cloud pipelines. Its customers have included major players like Shell, IBM, GSK, and BT. Software AG is planning to make the acquisition for €524 million (roughly $580 million USD). The company says that StreamSets’ data integration platform is a natural fit for Software AG’s existing Digital Business Platform, which includes an in-memory database; a complex event processing engine; an integration engine; a process engine; a task engine; and a visual analytics engine. The acquisition will mark Software AG’s entry into the cloud data integration segment of the data integration market. Software AG plans to capitalize on the StreamSets acquisition in four ways: first, through its revenue growth; second, by selling StreamSets products to existing Software AG customers; third, through the development of joint solutions, starting in the integration platform as a service (IPaaS) space; and fourth, by leveraging its economies of scale to streamline StreamSets’ growth. “This acquisition is a major milestone for Software AG,” said Sanjay Brahmawar, CEO of Software AG. “We’re acquiring a fast-growing business in a cloud market growing 26%. Its technology and team will further differentiate our hybrid integration offering for customers and fully complement our strategy to deliver sustainable profitable growth. In [StreamSets CEO] Girish and the whole StreamSets team, we are welcoming outstanding colleagues with a track record of innovation and success. Their base in California also extends our presence in North America, and I am incredibly excited at the prospect of working with them to grow our business together.” Software AG, which is traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, predominantly operates in Europe, but has customers around the world. “We’re delighted to be joining the Software AG family and working with Sanjay and team on this next phase of our growth journey,” said Girish Pancha, CEO of StreamSets. “Our products are made for each other, and we see tremendous opportunity in the convergence of application integration and data integration to deliver smart applications. I have been admiring Software AG’s transformation from afar, and together, I believe we will accelerate our growth trajectory by unlocking digital transformation for our customers.” Related Items StreamSets Eases Spark-ETL Pipeline Development StreamSets Gets $35M for DataOps StreamSets Balances Streaming Data Demands for Security, Access
  17. Link : https://hackaday.com/2022/03/03/spaceship-repair-ctf-covers-hardware-hacker-essentials/ At even vaguely infosec-related conferences, CTFs are a staple. For KernelCon 2021, [Tyler Rosonke] resolved to create a challenge breaking the traditions, entertaining and teaching people in a different way, while satisfying the constraints of that year’s remote participation plans. His imagination went wild in all the right places, and a beautifully executed multi-step hardware challenge was built – only in two copies! Story behind the challenge? Your broken spaceship has to be repaired so that you can escape the planet you’re stuck on. The idea was to get a skilled, seasoned hacker solving challenges for our learning and amusement – and that turned out to be none other than [Joe “Kingpin” Grand]! The modules themselves are what caught our attention. Designed to cover a wide array of hardware hacker skills, they cover soldering, signal sniffing, logic gates, EEPROM dumping and more – and you have to apply all of these successfully for liftoff. If you thought “there’s gotta be a 555 involved”, you weren’t wrong, either, there’s a module where you have to reconfigure a circuit with one! KernelCon is a volunteer-driven infosec conference in Omaha, and its 2022 installment starts in a month – we can’t wait to see what it brings! Anyone doing hardware CTFs will have something to learn from their stories, it seems. The hacking session, from start to finish, was recorded for our viewing pleasure; linked below as an hour and a half video, it should be a great background for your own evening of reverse-engineering for leisure! This isn’t the first time we’ve covered [Tyler]’s handiwork, either. In 2020, he programmed a batch of KernelCon badges while employing clothespins as ISP clips. Security conferences have most certainly learned just how much fun you can have with hardware, and if you ever need a case study for that, our review of 2019 CypherCon won’t leave you hanging.

While the Log4j open source component vulnerability caught us all off guard, it did highlight the need for software vendors to be more proactive in disclosing the composition of their products. It’s become painfully clear that analyzing open source libraries and third-party code should become standard practice to understand their makeup and the potential risks they introduce in commercial software applications. Unfortunately, relying on open source projects to provide visibility into security vulnerabilities isn’t going to work. In most cases, these projects are grossly underfunded. At the time of the Heartbleed vulnerability, for example, OpenSSL received very little funding. Yet, open source usage increases each year. It’s imperative that commercial software organizations contribute to open source projects they use and share responsibility for the security of these products. In addition to open source libraries, most vendors source third-party code from contractors or for-hire development organizations. Without documentation of the composition of the code developed by third parties, it’s impossible for commercial software vendors to proactively identify and manage risk before it’s implemented in their development cycle. Using Software Composition Analysis (SCA) Tools Where a software bill of materials (SBOM) is not provided, the onus should be on commercial software vendors to create one. This can be accomplished using software composition analysis (SCA) tools that analyze binaries and do not require access to source code. They can generate SBOMs to identify open source or third-party components in use, as well as track and manage security risks in the software supply chain. Creating a comprehensive SBOM provides other benefits, since most open-source projects and contract developers are only likely to publish direct dependencies (if at all) and not look further into the dependencies of dependencies, and so on. Four Benefits to Consider Meanwhile, commercial software vendors can expect their customers to soon start demanding SBOMs since this will be a requirement under the cybersecurity executive order. Given this evolving landscape, commercial software vendors should consider the following four benefits for proactively implementing an SBOM program to govern the products they build: Gain visibility into software supply chain risk to identify, reduce and remove vulnerabilities in reused software (i.e. open source and third-party). SBOMs provide data for business decisions on the software you have reused and purchased. It’s better to discover these risks before your customers do. Preemptive supply chain qualification to ensure compliance with future requirements. SBOMs will soon be a requirement for doing business with the U.S. federal government.Suppliers that meet the SBOM requirements during procurement will be given preferential treatment. Improved security and downstream benefits that come with risk management and mitigation. Avoiding, detecting and remediating security risks before they become embedded in a product pays huge dividends during development and deployment. You’ll be better prepared for the next security event. Common understanding of software assets that comes with a standardized SBOM shared amongst developers, suppliers and open source projects. An SBOM becomes a way to communicate software contents and dependencies within and outside an organization. Taking a proactive approach to the software supply chain by creating SBOMs and demanding the same from suppliers will enable commercial developers to be better prepared for the next Log4j/Log4Shell vulnerability. It will also allow them to improve the software supply chain security posture of their end customers.
