  3. One of the biggest graphics card manufacturers is actively cutting the cost of its graphics cards. This is what we've been waiting for, actual manufacturers meaningfully dropping prices on their graphics cards. We've noticed recently that GPU stock levels have been getting back to healthy levels across a swathe of different cards, but though prices have been dropping, they're still too high. But with Asus confirming to us that it "is reducing MSRP aggressively" it means that actual retail pricing can now follow suit, hopefully soon. And it's not just in the cards nobody wants either, such as the Radeon RX 6500 XT—which has remained at, or even below MSRP for much of its life—we're now seeing pricing coming down across a host of different GPUs." Asus has been dropping pricing across all SKUs," an Asus representative tells us. It looks like Asus is looking to jump first as GPU pricing inevitably drops. With an increase in supply obviously out there, and demand still sky-high for graphics cards, manufacturers are going to have to start putting in the work if they wants users to buy their cards. And when pricing is still punitive elsewhere, the first to actually drop its GPU pricing will see the lion's share of users buying its cards over the competition. That's echoed by Dr. Thomas Goldsby, a noted supply chain expert, who tells us: "A supplier out there will get nervous that they are sitting on considerable supply for an item that has a limited shelf life (with newer cards entering the market) and will make the move to clear out that excess inventory. "Peer suppliers will then have to follow that lead. And back to equilibrium we fall." Indeed there are reports that the next big GPU to launch, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, has had a significant price cut compared to where it would have been positioned had it launched back in January as expected. And we've heard similar refrain from our own contacts, too. If that does come to pass when the new Nvidia card is launched then that's just further proof that GPU pricing really is on its way to normalising. 5. Another win for genre word salad. Sitting somewhere between a modern roguelite and a retro FPS, Nightmare Reaper is a recent release from indie studio Blazing Bit Games that combines familiar elements into a formula that feels quite fresh. Putting you up against hordes of monsters that explode into fountains of gore, Nightmare Reaper takes open-ended levels both procedural and handmade and lets you tackle them however you please—as long as however you please involves using 80-some weapons with all kinds of weird random modifiers to blow everything up. I'm a big fan of the weapon that's a book which shoots lightning bolts. As you go through levels, you pick up new random weapons and showers of golden coins. Those coins can be used to buy character upgrades and abilities through minigames that you play on what appears to be a Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP. That's either nostalgia or absolute confusion for you, I'm sure, but it's a weird little stylistic touch that lets you know precisely where Nightmare Reaper is coming from.
  6. iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 as bug-fix updates from Apple The new software versions carry patches for zero-day vulnerabilities Mac users have received Bluetooth and display connection fixes. Apple has released iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 updates for its devices in just over a fortnight after the debut of iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4. The new software versions fix battery drain issues that were introduced with the release of the previous iOS and iPadOS updates. Alongside the iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1, Apple has released HomePod 15.4.1 update to fix an issue related to Siri. Apple Watch users have also received watchOS 8.5.1 as a minor update that brings a series of security fixes. Similarly, Mac users have got macOS Monterey 12.3.1 with fixes to address issues with Bluetooth and external display connections. Last month, Apple introduced iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 that started causing battery draining issues to some users. User reports surfaced online had suggested that the issues were reducing battery life on the iPhone 13 Pro Max for some users to half a day, while the iPhone 11 models for some users were losing 80 percent of the battery in 24 hours. Apple has addressed these concerns by introducing iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 that includes fixes for the issues causing the batteries to drain more quickly than expected, as per the official release notes. In addition to the battery drain problems, iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 fix a bug that was causing braille devices to become unresponsive while navigating text or displaying an alert. The updates also address a problem related to Made for iPhone and Made for iPad hearing devices that were becoming unresponsive with some third-party apps. Separately, iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 fix a security issue within the AppleAVD media decoder that would allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple has mentioned that the zero-day vulnerability might be “actively exploited” by some attackers in the wild. It is impacting devices, namely iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and the iPod touch (7th generation) Alongside the latest iOS and iPadOS releases, Apple has brought HomePod Software Version 15.4.1 that fixes an issue causing some HomeKit-enabled accessories to fail to respond when controlled via Siri. The update also includes bug fixes for the HomePod devices, the company said in its changelog. Apple has also released watchOS 8.5.1 as a minor update to watchOS 8.5. The new software version carries security updates and bug fixes for compatible Apple Watch models, the company said. However, exact details about the security updates and fixes are yet to be revealed. Mac users have received macOS Monterey 12.3.1 update that addresses a problem causing Bluetooth devices such as game controllers to disconnect after playing audio through some Beats headphones. The update also fixes an issue that was resulting in the USB-C or Thunderbolt external display to not turn on when connected to Mac mini (2018) as a second display. The new macOS Monterey release also fixes the issue that was causing some 2021 MacBook Pro models to not update or restore to macOS Monterey 12.3, Apple said in its release notes.
  7. Embarrassing spelling and grammar mistakes will soon be a thing of the past in Microsoft Edge as Microsoft is now rolling out a built-in grammar editor for its browser. Microsoft Editor is the software giant’s Grammarly competitor and while it’s normally accessed via a browser extension, the company has now decided to directly integrate it into Edge. Just like with other writing software, Microsoft Editor provides users with both grammar and punctuation corrections and suggestions as they write. In Edge, Editor will be available in over 20 languages but the writing tool will only provide feedback on the main language used in the browser. In addition to its existing features, Microsoft has said that it will soon begin rolling out text predictions in English, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese in Editor in order to help users not only write better but also faster. Besides its new Microsoft Editor integration, Microsoft is also bringing another new feature to Edge called web select though it was initially known as smart copy when it was first announced two years ago. Web select makes it easier to select formatted content like tables, images and text on the web. The feature allows users to quickly select entire paragraphs in their original formatting or copy only the cells they want to in a table. From here, you can then paste content with its original formatting into a Word document or into OneNote to reference later.
  8. Never worry about space ever again. Anyone looking for a reasonable cheap storage solution might want to check out Amazon's one-day deal on a WD Black 5TB P10 Game Drive for only $100. While not as fast as its SSD counterparts, 5TB is a LOT of space for games, movies, and whatever startling family secrets you don't trust to upload to the cloud. The WD Black P10 Game Drive is a 5TB external hard drive compatible with current and older Xbox and Playstations consoles. It connects via USB 3.0 and offers speeds up to 140MB/s. It is also small enough to fit your back pocket built to take a decent drop or two. I know what you're going to say, "A hard drive, in 2022, really?" Hear me out! I know that SSDs are pretty much in a league of their own when it comes to speed and performance vs an HDD. But if you're only concerned about archival purposes, higher capacity external SSDs (basically anything over 2TB) are wildly expensive for the task. Don't believe me? The 4TB SSD version of the WD Black Game Drive is selling for about $568, and that's with an almost $200 discount. Again this isn't an SSD, so the speeds will be nowhere near what you're used to. It's best to use this external hard drive for backing up or long-term storage purposes. I have an 8TB HDD external squirreled away somewhere loaded with tons of retro games and way too much anime. If reliability is a concern, these HDDs come with a three-year limited warranty that should address any issues that come associated with these spinning disc drives. If you're still resolutely anti-HDD but on the hunt for a decent large capacity external SSD, I've been using the Samsung T7 2TB for video projects now and love it. Oh, and it comes in red. https://www.pcgamer.com/this-5tb-external-hdd-for-dollar100-will-store-more-games-than-youll-ever-play/

  10. A tournament winner who previously earned thousands has been exposed by himself. A Call of Duty: Vanguard player accidentally revealed himself to be cheating while competing in an unofficial paid tournament this week. After drawing some suspicion about the legitimacy of his play, CoD streamer Kenji apparently tried to prove he wasn't cheating by pointing a webcam at his monitor and streaming during a 2v2 Search and Destroy match. Kenji's team won the 2v2 match, but his competitors ImSasukee and iLuhvly decided to dispute the results with the tournament hosting service Checkmate Gaming. While reviewing Kenji's stream, Checkmate noticed something strange. As shared in a clip on Twitter, at one point Kenji's monitor cam plainly shows that he's using wallhacks (a common cheat that lets you see enemies through walls). You can tell by the floating rectangles that appear on-screen—those are boxes drawn around enemy players that Kenji can track across the map. The stream the clip originates from has since been deleted by Kenji (along with his entire channel), but you can watch his competitors discover his wallhacks in this archive of their stream. Following the investigation, Kenji has been banned from Checkmate Gaming, where he had apparently earned nearly $4,000 since late 2020 by playing CoD. If that wasn't enough, the collegiate league Kenji competed in, the College CoD League, issued Kenji a permanent ban and disqualified his other four teammates representing Grand Canyon University in the league. The league announced its decision this morning on its official Discord server. "Kenji is permanently banned from the CCL," the statement reads. "Grand Canyon University is disqualified from the rest of the 2022 season and post-season. All GCU players listed below that competed alongside Kenji are banned until the beginning of the 2023 Season and may return to competition in the 2023 Season." While this particular story of cheating has a funny ending, it doesn't reflect well on Call of Duty's competitive integrity. Despite the best efforts of Activision's dedicated Ricochet Anti-Cheat software, it's still possible for players to inject their games with cheats and even use them to win thousands of dollars. And as long as you don't record yourself using the cheats and put it on the internet, it's apparently not that hard to get away with. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/call-of-duty-player-tries-to-prove-he-isnt-cheating-accidentally-proves-hes-cheating/

  11. WhatsApp is adding a bunch of voice message updates WhatsApp’s voice messaging feature will soon get some nifty updates to help compose, send, and listen to those convenient audio messages. The Meta-owned app is the main mode of communication for over two billion people every month. It’s free, highly accessible, and end-to-end encrypted, making it an important app for users around the globe to connect with family and friends. These updates could enhance the already pretty good voice messaging feature of the app by helping avoid miscommunications in audio messages and helping listeners speed through long-winded conversations. Included features are: Play and pause buttons will allow you to pause your recording and resume where you left off. Waveform visualization will show you how loud a message is, in case you need to prepare by adjusting your volume. Draft previews will let you listen to a message before sending it. Remember playback will pick up where you left off if you leave a chat before listening to a message all the way through. Fast playback will let you speed up any message in case you’re in a time crunch or listening to a long-winded message. WhatsApp didn’t provide a release date in the announcement or information about which platforms it will arrive on and in what order, but you can expect the features to roll out over the next few weeks. Analysis: WhatsApp stays on top for a reason The updates that Meta steadily brings to WhatsApp aren’t anything groundbreaking, and that’s by design. There’s a reason that the app continues to be the most po[CENSORED]r global messaging app out there. Small features brought about in incremental updates maintain the app’s ease of use by not getting in the way of how the app’s two billion monthly active users already interact with it. With these updates, it looks like the majority of the interface remains the same, and the new draft previews will help users avoid sending messages that weren’t ready yet. It’s the little things that count the most. https://www.techradar.com/news/whatsapp-will-soon-help-avoid-the-embarrassment-of-sending-the-wrong-voice-message

  12. A giant card needs a big cooler. Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3090 Ti promises to vie for a spot on the best graphics card for gaming when it becomes available in a week or two, but this card will require a lot of power and a lot of cooling. Early pictures of GeForce RTX 3090 Ti graphics cards from Nvidia's partners show massive cooling systems that are 3.5 – 4 slots wide. Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3090 Ti reportedly uses a fully-fledged GA102 GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores (up from 10,496 on the GeForce RTX 3090) mated with 24GB of GDDR6X memory running at 21Gbps across a 384-bit interface. The unit has all the chances to become the world's fastest graphics card, but this also means a rather extreme power consumption. Reports indicate that GeForce RTX 3090 Ti will have a recommended thermal board power (TBP) of around 450W. Still, some of Nvidia's partners may go as high as a whopping 480W (it is better not to think how much such a board will cost and keep in mind that Nvidia's current GeForce RTX 3090 has a power rating of 350W). But 450W – 480W or thermal power needs some excellent cooling, and with air cooling, things get complicated. Nvidia's GA102 is a highly complex GPU, and with its 28.3 billion transistors, it wants power. But GDDR6X memory with its PAM4 encoding also consumes a lot of power, so the card emits vast amounts of heat. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/custom-geforce-rtx-3090-ti-features-quad-slot-cooler

  13. Steam can't sell the game in Russia, so buyers should "help raise the pirate flag". Update: A spokesperson for Loop Hero publisher Devolver Digital has issued a statement, confirming that it supports Four Quarters' invitation for users in areas affected by economic sanctions to pirate the game. "Devolver Digital fully supports Four Quarters as they navigate this incredibly difficult period," the statement reads. "We've been communicating consistently with the team to help them wherever possible and were alerted of the statement ahead of time, which we back 100%." Prospective buyers of Loop Hero based in areas affected by economic sanctions should pirate the game, studio Four Quarters has announced. Due to sanctions imposed following Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, some customers in Russia may be unable to use regular payment methods to purchase games on Steam. The Russian independent studio—which does not support Russia's invasion of Ukraine—encouraged its followers to "help raise the pirate flag" in a March 27 post on its official VK account. It also shared a torrent link. Asked by a user how the studio can be supported during the ongoing crisis, the Four Quarters account wrote (via Google Translate): "we can handle it, thank you. If there is such an opportunity [for you to provide support] take better care of your loved ones and friends." After that post gained a lot of attention, Four Quarters followed up with a Loop Hero development update, which reaffirmed that there is "nothing wrong with torrents" and that it has received many offers of donations. Work on an in-progress update is 80% complete, and will be continued "soon". I reached out to a Devolver spokesperson for comment, and will update if I hear back. While customers in Russia may have trouble purchasing games on Steam and other platforms, game developers have it worse. Steam payments are stalled not only in Russia, but also Ukraine, and won't start paying through until April, Tyler reported earlier today. Valve acknowledged the situation, writing that "we know this is super frustrating for all involved, and are hoping to find a better resolution soon." https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/loop-hero-studio-encourages-users-affected-by-sanctions-to-pirate-the-game/

  15. An extra-secure version of Office 365 Microsoft has announced it will launch a new version of its Office 365 productivity bundle, designed specifically for government and intelligence agencies. The tailor-made collaboration suite, called Office 365 Government Secret, is currently pending accreditation and should be available by mid-2022. Announcing the news in a blog post, Microsoft CVP Paul Lorimer noted that modern governments face many challenges, “including increasing employee engagement and productivity with the latest tools, securing and controlling sensitive data, and managing multiple applications, devices, and workloads". Add in a heightened demand for security and you end up with a major market in need of “secure, productive, and efficient cloud options”. Supporting government agencies Office 365 Government Secret is built to support the US Federal Civilian, Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC), and US government partners working within the Secret enclave, Lorimer added. “With the launch of this new environment supporting Impact Level 6 (IL6), we’re adding to the comprehensive set of Office 365 Government cloud offerings to help meet the full spectrum of government data needs.” This new productivity suite will run the latest enterprise-grade Office 365 Government productivity, security, compliance, and collaboration applications, it was added. This is not the first time Microsoft has built custom solutions exclusively for government agencies. In August last year, the company announced the general availability of Azure Government Secret and Top Secret clouds. Launched with more than 60 initial services (with more in the pipeline), the product was built to “accelerate the delivery of national security workloads classified at the US Top Secret level”. Microsoft also has more than 73 services under Azure Government Secret. Those that plan to deploy Office 365 Secret environment should engage with their onboarding teams, the company said, in order to be ready when the final authorization is given. https://www.techradar.com/news/microsoft-launches-extra-special-office-365-but-its-probably-not-for-you

  16. Those extra cores, the higher clocks, and speedier memory don't deliver a huge uplift in gaming despite being $500 more than Nvidia's OG big boi. Nvidia has launched the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, the latest and potentially last Ampere GPU of this generation. And it's a monster. Officially. That's what Nvidia itself is calling the full-fat GP102 GPU inside this card. We got hold of an Asus TUF RTX 3090 Ti OC Edition card over the weekend and have been putting it through the wringer on our test bench for the full review. But, as a little teaser, here are the gaming benchmark results for your edification. So, what do you get for your extra 33% outlay going from the GeForce RTX 3090 up to the RTX 3090 Ti? Well, in gaming terms, all those extra 256 CUDA cores, that higher clock speed, and the shiny 21Gbps GDDR6X memory gets you is another 14% higher gaming frame rates. At best. And we really mean "at best" because this is the overclocked version of Asus' air-cooled TUF RTX 3090 Ti, and that means at 4K—where the performance delta is greatest—this full GA102 GPU is running at a heady 1,990MHz under load, higher than the stock Founders Edition card from Nvidia. Compare that with the RTX 3090 we've put it up against; that card clocks in at 1,766MHz on average under 4K gaming load. We've yet to put the RTX 3090 Ti through the same professional workloads as we did with the original RTX 3090, but we'll be doing that ahead of our full review. Partly because we want to see how it compares across the board with the RTX 30-series OG big boi card, but also because there has to be some reason for this hyper-expensive card to be made. Nvidia has been pegging this as "elite-level creator performance" and as such is effectively a Titan-class card, rather than a GeForce, gaming GPU. That means it's ostensibly only really possible to make sense of the RTX 3090 Ti if you're a professional GPU user, not a gamer. But Nvidia has stuck with the GeForce moniker, and so we've thrown some games at it. And yes, you read that right. 492W maximum power. She thirsty. It's also clear from the performance per Watt metrics just how diminishing the returns are as you go up to the top of the RTX 30-series product stack. We'll have our full RTX 3090 Ti review coming soon, so stay tuned. But for now, just enjoy the gaming performance of the fastest, most powerful graphics chip in the world. And then I guess try and figure out if you can justify spending $2,000 on that sort of frame rate. https://www.pcgamer.com/overclocked-nvidia-rtx-3090-ti-benchmarks/

  18. Today's answer is 'Block'. It was inevitable. We've had Nerdle (Wordle-but-math), CrossWordle (Wordle-but-reversed), and Squabble (Wordle-but-multiplayer), and now the phenomenon has crossed the streams with another. Yep, it's Wordle-but-Minecraft. The official name of the map is Word Hunt, and it was created by urgle_gurgle (thanks, PCGN). As in Wordle, the goal is to guess a five-letter word in six tries, with the letter colors changing after each guess to give you clues. This map is for the vanilla version of Minecraft and can be seen in action above (download here). Wordle-in-Minecraft can be played competitively, boasts a leaderboard feature for especially dedicated blockheads, and resets with a new daily word at midnight UTC time (it can also be played as much as you like in offline mode). There's some clever math behind getting this to work, primarily because Minecraft isn't designed to store and recover words, all of which urgle_gurgle explains in detail. Even serving up a new word at the same time every day was tricky, because the only way for Minecraft to detect time is "from one specific feature in player heads" that's stored alongside the player's name and head textures. The catch is that that info is encoded, and the process of extracting the data is so complicated it "sounds like black magic." Sounds like a lot of work just to deliver a new Wordle puzzle every 24 hours. Wordle creator Josh Wardle recently gave a talk at the Game Developers Conference as part of which he discussed the game's wild success and why he felt, in the end, he had to sell it to the New York Times. Most amusing was his list of the rules Wordle breaks: playable once per day, a website rather than an app, bad URL, no links in the sharable scorecards, and so on. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/now-you-can-play-wordle-in-minecraft/

  22. By dropping its most famous feature, Fortnite is better than ever. In 2017, months before Ninja would stream Fortnite with Drake and make national news, I was trying out its new battle royale mode. The game was extremely simple then compared to all you can do now, but the basics were sound: shooting felt pretty good, building was useful, and the destruction was unlike anything at its scale. After a while, a behavior started to emerge that would eventually define how Fortnite is played. Building became less about getting from place to place, and more about rapidly constructing elaborate towers of brick and metal to confuse enemies and block incoming fire. Firefights stopped looking like two people shooting guns and more like dueling carpentry sorcerers competing to make the tallest pile of garbage Basically, I put down Fortnite when it started to look like this. Playing Fortnite without building feels immediately different in some key ways. The most obvious change is that, when I shoot someone, their first reaction isn't to cower in a tower of sticks and bricks. They actually have to turn around and shoot back! Sometimes I hit more shots, sometimes they hit more shots—it's great. I've only been playing for a few nights and I've already had fun, drawn-out brawls with what I'm pretty sure are actual players (there have been lots of bots, too) No building has also made in-building fights a little more exciting, at least for a less experienced player like me. You can still destroy anything with your harvesting tool, but now the damage is permanent. I've made a habit of busting down building walls trying to flush out enemies within like I'm Sledge in Rainbow Six Siege. I also appreciate that, without three different building materials to worry about, the loot clutter on dead bodies is a lot more manageable And I haven't even mentioned the best part. To complement this no building test, Epic has also added new mobility features and a health boost. Players now run faster by default and can sprint in short bursts. I love Fortnite's sprint, partially because the animation has a lot of personality and detail, but also because it heavily cuts down the time I'm running across fields of grass. Ditto for the new slide and mantling abilities ripped straight out of an FPS—navigating Fortnite's colorful towns and rolling hills is now easy and fun The new movement suite, which I believe Epic plans to keep around even once this temporary no-build event is over, raises interesting questions about the game going forward. Building used to be required to get around the map, but Epic has essentially designed its way around it now. I don't need stairs to reach a second floor roof when I can hold spacebar to catch a ledge and hoist myself up. As for more extreme maneuvers, tools like grapple hooks, ziplines, launch pads, and bouncy Spider-man webs provide more than enough opportunities to get high up Frankly, there's already so much going on in Fortnite's map that I'm amazed that anyone can focus long enough to build an intricate tower. Just in the past few nights of matches, I've fought off AI soldiers in a blimp, launched myself out of a cannon, driven a car that I later upgraded with huge tires, blown up a tank, and pursued a dozen quests that have nothing to do with the actual battle royale mode Frankly, there's already so much going on in Fortnite's map that I'm amazed that anyone can focus long enough to build an intricate tower. Just in the past few nights of matches, I've fought off AI soldiers in a blimp, launched myself out of a cannon, driven a car that I later upgraded with huge tires, blown up a tank, and pursued a dozen quests that have nothing to do with the actual battle royale mode. As far as battle royale is concerned, I think building can safely go, and Epic seems to agree. Fortnite dataminers recently discovered evidence suggesting Epic is actually planning to keep no-build around as a permanent mode At the same time, I'm really happy that Fortnite as a whole has building, because it's responsible for all the amazing custom game modes that live outside the main playlist. Last night, I took a break from BR and ended up in an open-world snowboarding game. After that, I checked out Fortnite's shockingly good rendition of prop hunt. I'm also glad that those who still want to play Fortnite with the full chaos of its building will still be able to. It's a mechanic so integral to the game that excising it completely would immediately alienate players that have now spent a significant chunk of their childhoods mastering the art of building eight walls, editing a window into the corner, and shooting somebody through it. Respect. While you do that, I will be over here playing my version of Fortnite.

Advertisement AMD's new upscaling technology represents a major leap for the red team. From FSR 1.0 to FSR 2.0, AMD has flipped from a spatial upscaler to a temporal one, and with that reportedly offers a great uplift in performance and quality. The downside is that it may be too intensive for some older GPUs. With a target resolution of 1080p for FSR 2.0, AMD recommends an RX 6500 XT or RX 590 of its own cards; or a GTX 1070, GTX 16-series or above from Nvidia's lot. AMD has briefly spoken about what might slow down FSR 2.0 while in action, citing FSR 2.0's relatively high memory bandwidth demands. It noted during a GDC talk that a 4K scene can outstrip the Infinity Cache on even an RDNA 2 GPU, which doesn't bode well for older cards without anything close to an RDNA 2 GPU's cache or memory capacity. https://www.pcgamer.com/amd-doesnt-recommend-using-a-gtx-1060-with-frame-rate-boosting-fsr-20/

  25. Turn a zombie general's own ghost troops against him. The Bewitching Branch doesn't rank high on our list of Elden Ring Keepsakes: you can find the item throughout the game, and more crucially, its utility seems situational. While turning enemies into temporary allies is an interesting and useful tactic, it's less impressive once you consider the game's extensive Spirit Ash summoning system. Light Spoilers for the Mountaintops of the Giants Below However, one area where the Bewitching Branch can prove useful is the Commander Niall boss fight in Castle Sol, a dungeon found in the late-game Mountaintops of the Giants area. Niall himself is a classically difficult FromSoftware acrobatic big-armored sword guy—see also Artorias, Gwyn, and Isshin Ashina from previous games. He'd be hard enough on his own, but he opens the fight by summoning two ghost knights to fight alongside him. They're big, mean, fast, and have varied, punishing movesets. That's where the Bewitching Branch comes in. Souls series challenge runner, Ongbal, as part of an ongoing quest to beat all of the game's bosses without leveling up, demonstrated their strategy for taking down Commander Niall with the help of the Branch. Not only did turning the Knights over to their side eliminate the extra threat, but the soldiers proved just as deadly against the boss as they do when fighting a player, wiping out half of Niall's health before Ongbal even had to lift a finger. When I took on Commander Niall, it was two hours of old fashioned trial and error attempts, and it was quite the treat to see someone not only beat him handily, but also turn his own advantage against him. It's also an exciting demonstration of Elden Ring's mechanical depth and flexibility: a creative player was able to use a mechanic many others completely write off to turn a high-level challenge on its head. Who knows how many similarly surprising, creative strategies remain to be uncovered? https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/this-elden-ring-player-punked-an-endgame-boss-with-a-starting-item/
