  1. Thanks to Foone and Microsoft, 3D Movie Maker is now open source. Foone, a self-described "hardware/software necromancer" and chaotic keyboard maker, convinced Microsoft to release the source code for 3D Movie Maker—apparently, all we needed to do was ask. The 27-year-old animation program is now out there, neatly archived and available for anyone who wants tinker with it. Hey Microsoft, give me the source code to 3D Movie Maker," Foone wrote on Twitter last month. Then, just earlier this week, Microsoft's Scott Hanselman quote retweeted it and dropped the source code, crediting the Microsoft Open Source Office for its efforts. Now, the slightly bizarre, slightly before-its-time, and very '90s 3D Movie Maker is available, in its entirety, for everyone to have and tinker with. The program allows you to place cartoony characters and assets in 3D environments, control their movement over a timeline, and export it as a mini film. With the source code, Foone has plans to update it to run on modern PCs and to potentially add features that could make sharing its unique videos (in .3mm file format) much easier than you can by default. Foone has a long-standing love for 3D Movie Maker: They started using it in 1996 and began to make addons for the software in 2001. They belong to a surprisingly active community that continues to discuss and share animations with each other on an unofficial forum. As you'd expect, the forum is ecstatic about the news . Never thought I'd see the day," a moderator named HMC wrote. "This is a dream come true. Thank you Foone for always pushing 3DMM forward," Bizness Man said. Part of the reason why 3D Movie Maker's source code can be released is because the engine it runs on, BRender, also had its source code released this week. With both available, Foone can get to work on updating it without having to deal with licensing issues. Sort of like having Kid Pix in your browser, Foone wants to make 3D Movie Maker available for everyone to use, whether they want to create and export finished animations or test rough ideas they'll finish later in more modern tools like Source Filmmaker. I didn't know if it would happen, but frankly I thought it was worth a serious try," Foone said when I ask if they thought their original tweet would lead to anything. "I had asked around before and [Microsoft] hadn't been able to find [the code]... it turns out it was deeply buried in some archive of an archive of an archive. Apparently someone had to pull it off backup tapes to actually get it! https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/someone-tweeted-at-microsoft-to-release-the-27-year-old-source-code-to-3d-movie-maker-so-they-did/

  3. OnePlus 10 Ultra could be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC and feature updated cameras, as per a new leak by a tipster. There is no specific information provided regarding the camera sensors, however, OnePlus is expected to one-up the camera experience offered by the already-launched OnePlus 10 Pro. The tipster has also hinted at other OnePlus smartphones that might be under development, including the base OnePlus 10 and handsets from the mid-range Nord series. The Shenzhen-based company is expected to be also developing a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1-powered handset. According to a tweet shared by tipster Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh), the rumoured OnePlus 10 Ultra could arrive sometime around August or September. The company is also expected to release the vanilla OnePlus 10 smartphone this year, which might feature a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC or a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC depending upon the market. Notably, OnePlus has already launched the OnePlus 10 Pro and the OnePlus 10R in India. Furthermore, OnePlus could also be working on new mid-range smartphones, which are likely to be part of the Nord lineup. These Nord smartphones have been tipped to pack feature a MediaTek Dimensity 8000 SoC or a Snapdragon 888 SoC. The launch timeline of these smartphones is still unclear. However, they are all expected to arrive in 2022. In related news, a recent report hinted at the specifications of the rumoured base OnePlus 10. It is said to sport a 6.7-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and LTPO 2.0 technology for variable refresh rates. This smartphone could offer 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB storage. It is expected to feature a triple rear camera setup, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor along with an ultra-wide lens and a 2-megapixel macro lens. There is also supposed to be a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the front. This handset could feature a 4,800mAh battery with support for 150W fast charging. Can OnePlus 10 Pro beat iPhone 13 Pro and Galaxy S22 Ultra? We discuss this on Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast. Orbital is available on Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavn, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and wherever you get your podcasts.

  5. Microsoft Edge’s user numbers appear to have stagnated. Microsoft Edge is struggling to make up ground on the leaders of the web browser market, the latest data suggests. According to figures from Statcounter, recently updated to include statistics from April, Microsoft Edge has either lost or failed to gain market share in four of the last six months. Currently, Microsoft’s flagship browser is said to hold a 4.05% share of the market (across both desktop and mobile platforms), which equates to an estimated 200 million users. Although Edge has now eked out a lead over Firefox (3.41%), its market share is a long way shy of both Google Chrome (64.34%) and Apple’s Safari (19.16%). Since its (re-)launch in January 2020, the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge has been broadly well-received, courtesy of a series of upgrades that modernized the user experience. The browser’s share of the market grew rapidly in its first year, thanks in part to renewed marketing efforts, and the retirement of Internet Explorer and Edge Legacy (whose users Microsoft was careful to funnel towards its new flagship. However, with few gains left to tap into here, the rise of Microsoft Edge appears to have stagnated – and that’s despite continued efforts on the company’s part to deliver improvements to the service. In recent weeks, for example, Microsoft has unveiled a built-in VPN-like service for Edge, improvements for the in-built password manager and new integrations designed to help users diagnose any performance issues. In recent weeks, for example, Microsoft has unveiled a built-in VPN-like service for Edge, improvements for the in-built password manager and new integrations designed to help users diagnose any performance issues. Last summer, it emerged the company had made it much more finicky to change the default web browser in Windows 11, and in November, it was found that Microsoft was forcing links opened via its own services to launch inside Edge. The backlash against these changes was significant, ultimately forcing Microsoft into an embarrassing retreat. Alternatively, the rise in po[CENSORED]rity of privacy-centric browsers from the likes Brave and DuckDuckGo - pitched as an antidote to the ills of Big Tech - could be making life more difficult for Microsoft. The latest figures suggest Brave’s browser now holds roughly 1% of the market. But whatever the reason for the stagnation of Edge, Microsoft will need to find a way to revitalize its browser soon, if its ambitions to challenge for a place at the top of the market are to be realized. https://www.techradar.com/news/browser-wars-has-microsoft-edge-completely-lost-its-way
  6. It was only a matter of time before the retailers and manufacturers got together to offer actual graphics card deals. And today there are two RTX 3070 Ti pixel pushers on offer at Newegg with a $100 discount. With GPU stock increasing we've moved past the point where it didn't matter how much you charged for a card, it would still get snapped up by an enthusiastic gamer. Or reseller looking to charge even more on ebay. Manufacturers and retailers are now having to compete for our money in a way they haven't for the longest time, and so prices are coming down and discounts are actually starting to happen. Case in point, a pair of overclocked RTX 3070 Ti cards from MSI and Gigabyte. The Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3070 Ti for $750 is a marginally better buy by my reckoning. It's got a slightly higher overclock and a moderately lower profile by the looks of things. But the MSI Ventus RTX 3070 Ti similarly at $750 is still ever-so-slightly overclocked beyond the stock 1,770 MHz boost clock. Our review of the RTX 3070 Ti in Founders Edition trim, found it to be one of the hottest cards around. And not in a good way. The full GA104 GPU it uses has a higher core count than the RTX 3070 below it, and that makes it a toasty chip, coupled with the fact it was labouring under the same cooler as the slower RTX 3070 Founders Edition, and it was actually getting thermally limited in use. With these two Gigabyte and MSI GPUs, however, you're getting their own triple-fan designs which ought to be able to manage the heat generated by this powerful slice of graphics silicon and keep it quiet while gaming. The RTX 3070 Ti is effectively the card launched to make sure Nvidia had a healthy lead over the Radeon RX 6800, which puts it between that and the Radeon RX 6800 XT in terms of gaming performance. While we're talking about the outstanding AMD card, there is a Sapphire Pulse RX 6800XT on offer for $840 right now, too. It is worth noting that, while the two Nvidia graphics cards are ostensibly discounted, they are both well above the original MSRP for the stock RTX 3070 Ti. When it was launched Nvidia was calling it a $599 card, and these two SKUs from Gigabyte and MSI represent their more affordable lines. So, we're not down to MSRP just yet, but even in so-called 'normal' times a third-party, overclocked version of any given graphics card could get close to topping $150 over the MSRP anyways. It's a good sign, and not a bad deal, either.

  8. Lockdowns in Shanghai slow progress on the regular-as-clockwork free to play hit. Genshin Impact's Version 2.7 update has been postponed, with no news of when the announcement of a new date will come. Developers miHoYo announced the delay this week via Twitter. "Due to project progress, the Version 2.7 update will be postponed. For detailed information on the date of the new update, content adjustment plan, and compensation, please stay tuned for upcoming announcements," it said. miHoYo followed up to say that it will provide further information as soon as possible, and apologized for the inconvenience caused. The delay comes among continued COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai, where miHoYo is based. The 25 million person lockdown in Shanghai is entering its fifth week, as reported by ABC News, and the lack of ability to work from their offices is certainly impacting miHoYo developers. Many replies on social media wished the developers well, hoping they would focus on staying safe rather than attempting to release content for the game. Others said that no "compensation" would be necessary—Genshin Impact often gives out free in-game premium currency when updates are delayed. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/genshin-impact-27-is-indefinitely-delayed/

  10. Final Fantasy 14's new 5v5 PvP mode, Crystalline Conflict, has apparently led to such an uptick in bad manners among the players that the game's producer, Naoki Yoshida, directly addressed players in a news post regarding their behavior. "We are receiving an unprecedented number of reports concerning uncooperative/lethargic or taunting behavior during matches," Yoshida explains, before diving into the offending tendencies in more detail. The "Uncooperative/Lethargic" behavior Yoshida singles out first is a bit hard to pin down, though many of us have likely witnessed a gaming teammate sandbag it out of spite at least once. "All PvP content, including Crystalline Conflict, is intended to be a battle/contest of skill between players," writes Yoshida. "Participants must bring their best to the fight, and for this reason uncooperative or lethargic behavior is prohibited. Let's strive to do our best even in situations where defeat is imminent, regardless of whether or not you're interested in the rewards." The meat of the post, however, is a detailed list of other rude antics that Yoshida politely asks Crystalline Conflict players to stop indulging in. Repeatedly using the Quick Chat phrase "Nice job!" during a disadvantageous situation Repeatedly using the Quick Chat phrase "Good match!" before the outcome of the match has even been decided Excessively repeating a particular Quick Chat phrase Persistently placing a negative target marker on another ally player Using and repeating an emote on top of a downed opponent Setting off fireworks on top of a downed opponent Using Tell or other methods to directly harass/criticize a player outside of a duty after a match has ended Slandering other players through means outside of the game, such as social media. It almost doesn't bear mentioning that slinging abuse through the in-game chat or external social media is inexcusable, but it's funny to see genuinely nasty behavior lumped in with the more benign competitive jabbing on this list. Sarcastic use of a "Nice Job!" or "Good Match!" quick chat strikes me as some classically good natured smack talk, reminiscent of the "Very Good!" carvings from Dark Souls, "What a save!" taunts from Rocket League, and the "I'm Using Tilt Controls!" flex from Mario Kart Wii. The map ping abuse also seems relatively harmless, if annoying, and could be addressed with a cooldown timer. The funniest request is that players stop using emotes and fireworks to taunt their opponents. At least 70% of an emote's utility is for good natured PvP taunting in my view, and the fireworks strike me as the perfect cheeky sendoff after outplaying an opponent. Maybe I've just let myself get too deadened to this sort of thing after years of Overwatch and League of Legends. Yoshida wraps up the post by reminding players that the FF14 team reserves the right to temporarily suspend them for three to 20 days for the listed behaviors, and that repeated or "exceptionally heinous" violations will result in a permanent ban. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/final-fantasy-14-pvp-taunt-rules/
  11. Remote workers just won't stop destroying their business laptops and smartphones, and with gear getting more expensive, and people traveling more in the post-Covid era, the costs are quickly mounting up. This is according to a new report from Direct Line, based on a surveying of 2,000 UK adults, which states that almost a quarter (22%) of those who travel with business-owned technology manage to damage it. What's more, a further fifth (19%) have previously lost their work hardware, while 14% have had it stolen from them. Dropping or knocking an item (27%) is the usual way people damage corporate gear, while 18% just leave it somewhere and forget where they placed it. A tenth poured a drink on the device, while some (7%) managed to get their gear cracked by another colleague. The gear is getting more expensive, as well. The average worker now carries more than $1,400 worth of equipment, while a tenth (9%) carries with them technology that can cost as much as $3,800. With the transition to hybrid working, Direct Line expects workers to travel more in the coming months. Almost a third (30%) said they’d be using more shared workspaces now, while a fifth (19%) said they will be traveling to a work event or conference in the near future. For Alison Traboulsi, Marketing Manager at Direct Line, insuring company-owned technology has never been as important as it is today. A fifth of businesses now insure technology for employees that travel to different locations. https://www.techradar.com/news/remote-workers-wont-stop-destroying-their-business-laptops-and-smartphones

  12. Next-gen GPU rumors are coming thick and fast. The latest is that Nvidia's upcoming RTX 40 series of graphics cards will be built with TSMC's 4nm process node, giving the series a slight advantage over the 5nm process that AMD is expected to use for its next-gen RDNA3 GPUs. Moore's Law Is Dead (via wccftech) believes that Ada Lovelace will be built using TSMC's 4nm node. Talking about nodes can be confusing. It was thought that Nvidia would use a node referred to as 4N, which is a customized 5nm class process, however MLID specifically states '4nm'. He knows what he's talking about. Nvidia's workstation 'Hopper' architecture is a 4nm product, but that's a very high margin product, and Nvidia can easily recoup costs from sales to secure bleeding edge wafer starts. We know Nvidia is paying a lot of money for access to TSMC's production, but is the asking price for 4nm too high for a lower margin GeForce card? Confused? So are we. Whether Ada Lovelace ends up being a 5nm or 4nm or 4N or whatever, the vast majority of consumers won't pay any attention. As long as their chosen card performs as they expect, the node in use won't matter. Whether this means Nvidia really will have a single nanometre advantage over AMD's competing products remains to be seen, but in the end, it might not make all that much difference. Rumours point towards Ada Lovelace being very power hungry, meaning Nvidia isn't using the slight power headroom advantage it might have enjoyed as it seeks maximum performance. There's also the possibility that AMD's chiplets design could utilize different nodes, making node comparisons a largely meaningless endeavor. Its cards are also expected to take a step up in power consumption. All will become clear in time. RTX-40 series cards are expected to launch sometime in the second half of 2022. https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidias-next-gen-gpus-to-have-a-node-advantage-over-amds-rdna3-gpus/

  14. Call of Duty is bleeding players. According to Activision's first 2022 investor report published today, users across Call of Duty games plummeted throughout 2021 and into 2022. The series, which in 2021 reached 150 million monthly active users thanks to Call of Duty: Warzone's immense po[CENSORED]rity, has steadily lost 50 million players in a year. Now, Call of Duty has around 100 million players. That's still a whole lot of people, but it's the steepest decline the series has seen since Warzone released in 2020. Activision is attributing the sharp fall to disappointing sales for Call of Duty: Vanguard and "lower engagement" in Warzone. Activision has mentioned Vanguard's lower-than-usual sales before, but considering Warzone is free-to-play and likely represents the biggest chunk of Call of Duty players, it probably deserves a lot of the blame. Warzone's decline won't come as a surprise to the average Warzone player. The 50 million drop reflects what has been a disappointing year of updates to the game, including boring seasonal additions, disruptive balancing problems, and a new map that launched with game-breaking bugs that wouldn't be fixed for weeks. Activision increasingly seems to be banking its hopes on Infinity Ward, the fan-favorite Call of Duty developer. The studio is working on a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019 coming later this year as well as spearheading a sequel to Warzone made from the "ground-up" on the engine powering the next Modern Warfare. Warzone 2, or whatever Activision decides to call it, will be unveiled sometime this year and release in 2023.

  16. Google has hit out at Brave and DuckDuckGo over recent service updates designed to undermine the divisive AMP initiative. Earlier this week, the two privacy software vendors announced new browser functionality that allows users to bypass AMP, which they say is harmful to privacy and the economics of the web. However, Google has now moved to dismiss these criticisms. “These allegations are misleading, conflate a number of different web projects and standards, and repeat a number of false claims,” said a Google spokesperson, in an email exchange with TechRadar Pro. When AMP was first announced, Google said it believed the system would help ensure rich web content such as video and animation would load rapidly and behave consistently across all platforms, thereby improving the web experience. However, the scheme has come under criticism from publishers and privacy advocates alike, who say AMP gives Google yet more signals to gobble up in support of its digital advertising business, creates confusion as to the source of information and forces publishers to build their websites to Google’s desired spec. This week, Brave also called into question the benefits of AMP from a user experience perspective, going so far as to say that “AMP is bad for performance and usability”, an accusation that appears to have caused particular irritation at Google. AMP is an open source framework that was collaboratively developed with publishers, tech companies, and Google as a way to help web content load faster– at the time it was created, it took 19 seconds on average to load a mobile webpage on a 3G connection,” the Google spokesperson told us. “Today, AMP continues to be a helpful way for websites and publishers – especially those without large development teams – to easily create great web experiences.” The debate over AMP is unlikely to be settled any time soon, however, with a second-generation system now in the works, informally known as AMP 2.0. In the opinion of Brave, this new system has the potential to be “even worse”, allowing “more of the web to be served from Google’s servers, and in ways that give users less control over how they interact with that content”. https://www.techradar.com/news/google-claps-back-at-brave-duckduckgo-over-latest-privacy-debate

As an added incentive, HP is also offering up to an extra 10% off on systems over $1,399 with coupon code 10GAMER2022 and 5% off with coupon code 5GAMER2022, which can be applied at check out. One of the systems that stands out to us is an Omen 40L GT12 gaming desktop for only $1,234. This AMD-powered entry-level is discounted by $666 from its usual $1899 price point. The Omen 40L GT21-0148z desktop includes an eight-core, 16-thread AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU backed by 16GB RAM and a Radeon RX 6600XT. Of course, out of the budget GPUs, we prefer the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti over the Radeon RX 6600 XT, but it's not a bad configuration at this price. The combination of 1TB HDD and 512GB SSD is an exciting choice where you can use the SSD as a boot drive and the HDD to store all your extra stuff. Since you're already saving a few hundred dollars, you might consider upgrading the SSD to at least 1TB, though. Omen 40L GT21-0148z | AMD Ryzen 7 |RX 6600XT | 16GB RAM |1TB HHD/512GB SSD|$1,899 $1,234 at HP (save $666) This heavily discounted Omen gaming desktop will give plenty of 1080p gaming goodness for under $1300. Just make sure to use the coupon code 5GAMER2022 at checkout for an extra 5%. We're big fans of the Omen's sleek black case design. The tempered glass side panel shows off all PC's innards, and the twin white rimmed fans upfront with the Omen diamond is a good look. The Omen 40L is a nice entry-level system that's pretty easily upgradable. Our advice is to take the couple hundred bucks you save from the sale and go for more storage. Then you'll have managed to get yourselves a neat mid-range PC at a budget price. Currently, the HP website has got some issues with long load times, but as far as we can tell, you can still add things to your cart and check out if you got the patience. If not, give it a couple of hours and try again. https://www.pcgamer.com/hps-offering-a-devilish-dollar666-discount-on-this-all-amd-gaming-pc/

  19. Major Hunt: Showdown updates like new maps and new bosses come out at the pace of a welly-clad hunter trudging through waist-high swamp water. So you could think that getting excited over an update that adds pistol-wielding zombies is just a result of Major Update Privation in the Hunt community, but it could actually the most disruptive new monster the game's introduced in years. Pistol grunts are one of a number of changes being introduced in the upcoming 1.8.1 update. These grunts won't be capable of actually shooting you with their rusted guns, but upon melee-attacking you, the gun will fire off one shot into the air before breaking. Probably more than any other shooter out there, Hunt: Showdown is dependent on sound to track enemies on the map, so that single pistol shot can really mess up a stealthy approach. Essentially, pistol grunts will be the loudest noise traps in the game, so you'll want to take them down fast and for the gods' sake don't let them hit you. The 1.8.1 update will also introduce lantern grunts, which carry around both lit and unlit lanterns. If you get hit with a lit lantern, you will be set alight; if you get hit with an unlit one then you get doused in oil (which can subsequently be set alight). Things are going to get pretty hazardous out there. A new quest system is being introduced too, which will replace the randomised daily and weekly challenges that players got until now. You'll now get to choose from nine tasks each week, each with their own reward and 'star' value. So you get a reward for each quest you complete, and if you collect 30 stars in a week, you get 25 Blood Bonds. The new system should offer a little more control for players to pick tasks in line with their skill level and amount of time they spend on the game. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/hunt-showdown-is-introducing-its-most-disruptive-new-enemy-in-years/

  20. For a chip that is supposedly "locked," the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D seems to spend a lot of its time since release being overclocked. The latest comes from MSI's internal overclocker, TSAIK, who has managed to push the chip up to 5.14GHz using the MSI X570 Godlike motherboard. And it's that $699 motherboard that looks to be key to the latest impressive overclock. In case you missed it, the AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D was released last week and is an intriguing CPU. While it isn't a slam dunk as a buying recommendation for most gamers, the underlying 3D V-Cache technology is exciting and promises good things for Zen 4, assuming that the technology appears there too. And at this point, we've got to assume that will be the case. If there is a downside to the 5800X3D it's that it doesn't officially support any overclocking. Not only is the multiplier locked, but it also doesn't support underclocking, undervolting, or any extra performance from Precision Boost Overdrive, which is AMD's own automatic overclocking technology. The reason for this lack of overclocking support is down to that 3D V-Cache technology, which sees the L3 cache tripled by placing the cache on top of the CPU. This extra cache doesn't play nicely with higher frequencies or voltages though, with the latter forcing the chip to be limited to 1.35V as opposed to the 1.5V of other Ryzen 5000 chips. That hasn't stopped tinkerers overclocking the chip using the base clock (BCLK) though. By upping the base clock to 104MHz, SkatterBencher managed to hit 4.74GHz with the chip, complete with a YouTube video of how to do it yourself. Be warned though, overclocking using the BCLK can throw the stability of the system, as it affects other elements of your system, including RAM, USB ports, PCIe slots, SATA drives, and NVMe SSDs. This latest overclock is a little more interesting than previous overclocks though, because not only has MSI's resident overclocking, TSAIK, managed to push the chip over the 5GHz barrier (via Wccftech), but they've managed to do it while keeping the voltage down to just 1.2V. It's worth noting that this was achieved with a single 8GB stick of RAM running at 1205MHz, proving that this isn't an overclock you'd want to use on a daily basis . There are plenty of things that are unknown about this overclock, including what the cooling setup was, but potentially more importantly, whether a new BIOS was used for the overclock. One of the beauties of working in-house at MSI is that TSAIK potentially has access to BIOS versions that we mere mortals do not. Will we see a BIOS update for the X570 Godlike that lets others hit such dizzy heights? We'll have to wait and see. There's also the question as to whether you should overclock the $450 chip yourself at all. Semi-accurate suggests that overclocking the chip could cause a catastrophic failure due to the bond between the CPU and the 3D V-cache breaking down when out of spec. I'm sure this won't stop tinkerers pushing the Ryzen 7 5800X3D harder and harder though, and while we're unlikely to see overclocks as high as those seen by the straight Ryzen 7 5800X, which topped out at 6.1GHz, I suspect this 5.14GHz record won't stand for too long .

  22. Elden Ring's Erdtree is its most notable landmark. Visible from almost any point in the Lands Between (at least, in the overworld), it towers over every area in the game, even the lofty Mountaintops of the Giants to the map's far north. It is, to put it mildly, very big. But how big is 'big', exactly? Well, FromSoftware YouTube specialist Zullie the Witch took it upon themselves to find out. In a video titled 'How big is the Erdtree?' Zullie attempted to measure Elden Ring's giant golden glowstick while explaining their methodology: "At the base, we could measure from where it meets the ground," Zullie explains, "but the trunk continues for hundreds of metres below that." Looking at the top of the tree, Zullie notes that "The trunk also abruptly cuts off at the peak of the tree, but it's naturally crowned by many branches that extend farther up." Taking all this into account, Zullie measures the tree from its base beneath the overworld to the tip of its tallest branch, concluding that the Erdtree model's total height is approximately 5,048 metres tall (or 16,562 feet). This is taller than the highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc, which has an elevation of 4,808 m, or 15,773 ft. This is only if you include the entire model, however. As Zullie points out, trees "aren't usually measured from the roots". If you measure the Erdtree from the point it emerges from ground, then its height is a slightly less impressive 4,452 m, or 14,606 ft. That's still taller than a lot of big mountains, including Japan's Mount Fuji. It's also five-times taller than the largest man-made structure on Earth, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. But how does the Erdtree stack up to other videogame tallbois? Well, it is but a sapling compared to the Citadel in Half-Life 2, which, after nine years of arguments and research, was concluded to be 8,773 m tall, which is close to the height of Mount Everest. There is still some debate about that measurement, however, so perhaps Elden Ring's Erdtree might win out in this height-based bunfight yet. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/how-tall-is-elden-ring-erdtree/
