https://www.arabnews.com/node/2033061/entertainment The film cast deaf actors Marlee Matlin and Troy Kotsur as parents SAG awards are closely watched because actors form the largest voting group which organizes the Oscars LOS ANGELES: “CODA,” a coming-of-age drama about the only hearing member of a deaf family, won the Screen Actors Guild’s top film award, raising its chances of success at next month’s Oscars ceremony. The movie, which Apple TV+ acquired at the Sundance Film Festival for $25 million, follows the story of a small-town girl who pursues her dream of becoming a singer. The film cast deaf actors Marlee Matlin and Troy Kotsur as parents of the young performer, played by Emilia Jones. “We deaf actors have come a long way,” said Matlin, speaking through an interpreter. The SAG awards, chosen by members of the SAG-AFTRA acting union, are closely watched because actors form the largest voting group in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which organizes the Oscars. Winning the top SAG honor often, but not always, precedes a best picture win. This year’s Oscar winners will be announced on March 27. The war in Ukraine did not go unnoticed, with actor Leslie Odom Jr. acknowledging the violence at the onset of the ceremony, sending “our thoughts, prayers and hopes for impending peace.” It was a recurring theme throughout the night. “CODA,” an acronym for Child of Deaf Adult, landed the top SAG award — for a cast in a motion picture — over drama “Belfast,” a Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical tale about the Northern Ireland conflict, climate change allegory “Don’t Look Up;” “King Richard” about the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams; and “House of Gucci,” the story of the family behind the famous fashion house. “The Power of the Dog,” which led Oscar nominations with 12 nods, was not nominated by SAG for best cast. The gothic Western did not win on Sunday. Jessica Chastain won best movie actress for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” and Will Smith was named best movie actor for “King Richard,” the story of Venus and Serena Williams’ father. Among the night’s television honors, the fish out of water series about an American football coach hired to coach a British soccer team, “Ted Lasso,” won for best comedy, and the cast of HBO’s tale of money, power and politics, “Succession” won for outstanding ensemble performance in a drama series. “Succession’s” Brian Cox used his acceptance speech to address the war, lauding the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a former comic, and offering support for Russian actors, who “under pains of high treason” cannot speak out. Helen Mirren was honored with a lifetime achievement award. “I join our tribe of rogues and vagabonds a long time ago,” said Mirren. “And it is you, you actors, that I want to thank.”

https://www.pcgamer.com/nobuo-uematsu-explains-the-vocals-added-to-final-fantasy-6-pixel-remasters-opera-scene/ The final Final Fantasy to receive the pixel remaster treatment, Final Fantasy 6 was released on February 23. Many things remain as they were in the original game, including the fact you can suplex a train (which wasn't a sure thing, as a tweet from two weeks before launch showed a version in which the Phantom Train didn't flip over). One thing that has changed is the famous opera scene, which received a visual overhaul, with the 2D characters in front of 3D backgrounds à la Octopath Traveler, and vocals in seven languages. In a recent promotional video (thanks to RPGSite for the translation), original composer Nobuo Uematsu explains that he suggested the idea of adding vocals to Square Enix "half-jokingly", not expecting it to actually happen. "I thought it would be impossible or difficult," he said. On hearing this suggestion, the remaster's producer then went to Yoshinori Kitase, the original's co-director, to ask what to do. As Kitase explained in the video, "So I replied 'You should listen and do everything that Uematsu said.' I was the key figure behind the scenes!" Celes, the party member who sings in the scene, is an ex-military general who gets caught up in the performance rather than an opera singer. A vocalist was chosen with that in mind, Uematsu said, "someone whose vocals didn't seem like an opera singer, but more like a musical singer." Uematsu also explained that the lyrics were written by Kitase, who wrote them as "a love letter for the woman he was dating. But he wasn't lying, he did end up marrying her and they had a baby." Uematsu found out that Square Enix had followed through on his suggestion when the publisher sent him versions of the audio in seven different languages. "No matter what language it was," he said, "even when I couldn't understand [the language], I still couldn't help getting overflowed with tears." https://www.pcgamer.com/gigabyte-500-and-400-series-am4-motherboard-bios-add-support-for-the-amd-ryzen-7-5800x3d-cpu/ The launch of AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D draws closer. In preparation for the launch, Gigabyte has released a new BIOS for its 500 & 400 series AM4 motherboards. According to a tweet from @KOMACHI_ENSAKA, the new BIOS includes AMD’s AGESA ComboV2 PI 1.2.0.6B microcode and covers Gigabyte’s X570, B550, A520, X470 and B450 product families. Though it’s not explicitly stated, the BIOS changelog for a couple of the models we looked at includes support for an 'Upcoming New CPU'. Which is almost certainly the 5800X3D. Other motherboard manufacturers are certain to follow with their own BIOS releases. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is an exciting CPU as it’s the first to include an extra 64MB of vertically stacked cache. This will give it a total of 96MB of L3 cache. It will include 8 cores and 16 threads. Its base clock will be set at 3.4GHz with a boost clock of 4.5GHz. This is lower than the 4.7GHz of the regular Ryzen 7 5800X. The TDP remains the same at 105W. AMD lowered the clocks a little in order to fit within the 105W TDP envelope, but this means that if you have good cooling and a motherboard with a decent VRM, there’s every chance that the 5800X3D could have good overclocking headroom. AMD claims the 5800X3D can deliver up to 15% higher gaming performance than the base 5800X. Though that is probably going to be limited to games that are sensitive to a large and low latency cache. It may also end up as a low volume CPU. Will the lower clock speed hurt it significantly? Or will the extra cache be enough to offset it across all kinds of workloads? We’ll have to wait and see how it performs if or when we get it installed into our test bench sometime in the spring. https://www.techradar.com/news/google-chrome-is-removing-its-data-saving-mode-on-android-lets-celebrate When version 100 of Google's Chrome browser is available to download, it will be without the Lite mode that enables less mobile data to be used on Android devices when browsing the web, and I couldn't be happier. In a blog post, the company explained that it doesn't see the need for a feature to minimize data used in its web browser, when the amount of cellular data has increased, while the cost has stayed the same. The feature arrived back in 2014 as a way to load webpages with less data being used, which could be useful for those on a small data plan for their smartphone. Having sold phones and data plans to customers in a previous career, the end of this feature is only good news for me, but mainly for the customer who reads their content from Chrome on a mobile device every day. According to Google's Roadmap status page for Chrome, version 100 will arrive on March 29, with a beta arriving around March 3. This will apply to all versions of Chrome - from its mobile versions to the desktop on PC, Mac and Chromebook. But with the Data Saver feature only on Android versions, it's not going to be something that's missed by many users, especially as there's data saving features built into Android 12 for all apps anyway, by going to Settings > Cellular Data. Having worked at a phone store for years before switching careers to be a writer, helping customers with their phones and the data they would use, would be a common task for me. Some would come in, asking me why they had received a text stating they were at 80% of their monthly data usage. Looking at how much data apps would be used, a web browser would usually reign supreme at the top of this list. But this was in a time where 2GB of data a month would be normal to see, not the 150GB a month or unlimited plans we all see advertised. But when a 'lite' mode would appear on a browser or a social media app like Facebook, it would degrade the experience. I remember pixelated images loading instead, or certain content removed so the text would be all over the place. However, it's finally time to see the back of these features - they only hinder, not help the experience if you're trying to search for something or read the latest news in Chrome on your Samsung S22. As Google Chrome hits a century of a version number, it's great to see this disappear, and instead, enrich the content that's available for your interests across the spectrum of the web. However, Firefox is also approaching version 100, so there's a chance that we may see a landmark feature arrive from Mozilla as well. March is looking to be an eventful time for web browsers on many devices, and I'm here for it. Daryl had been freelancing for 3 years before joining TechRadar, now reporting on everything software-related. In his spare time he's written a book, 'The Making of Tomb Raider', alongside podcasting and usually found playing games old and new on his PC and MacBook Pro. https://www.arabnews.com/node/2031111/lifestyle Palestinian model and artist Fai Khadra jetted to Dubai this week to celebrate the launch of US label Ralph Lauren’s Club Eau de Parfum, in which he stars. Khadra appeared in the campaign video, set in a swanky nightclub of the same name as the fragrance, alongside Palestinian-Dutch model Gigi Hadid, model, and musician Lucky Blue Smith, and artist and actor Luka Sabbat. In an interview with Arab News, Khadra said he enjoyed filming the campaign, his first post-pandemic. “Ralph Lauren is such an iconic American heritage brand, and their concept for this fragrance was really to bring together a community that felt authentic to Ralph’s club, and that felt like a real club of a group of friends,” he said. “I think they did that so beautifully because all the cast members who were in the campaign are friends in real life. We hang out and we see each other all the time.” Besides the friendly atmosphere on set, Khadra said that one of his favorite memories was spending time with Hadid. “Gigi had just had her baby and I didn’t get a chance to meet her. So I got a chance to, you know, at least see photos of the baby and hear about how she’s doing. It was just great to be all together again,” he explained. Khadra has had a lot on his plate, recently partnering with heritage eyewear brand Oliver Peoples on a capsule collection of handcrafted sunglasses. “They are the perfect everyday shape. I designed them to be ‘every day,’ ‘looks great on everyone and can just seamlessly fit into your lifestyle,” he said. Turning back to his art, Khadra also recently displayed a sculpture at a show called “Vessels” in Los Angeles. “It was an interesting idea. A friend of mine, Alex — who curates these shows — comes up with a concept for each show. The last one he did was chairs,” he said. “My idea was to carve a vessel out of the ground, which I thought was an interesting kind of take on the concept of his show.” Some of Khadra’s favorite artists that he is inspired by are Bruce Nauman, Richard Prince, and Andy Warhol. He spent the lockdown period caused by COVID-19 in Los Angeles. “I was with my family for most of the time. We honestly cooked a lot. I know it was a very difficult time for everybody including myself, but I think something positive that came out of it was being able to spend time with loved ones and kind of take a break from a very tricky life that we all live.” Besides modeling, sculptures, DJ’ing, and set design, Khadra is interested in exploring the tech world. “I’ve been interested in different tech companies and this new NFT (non-fungible token) space, and how art and technology are coming in together. I think that is going to be the future,” he said. “I’m very interested in learning more about the different tech spaces and how we can optimize the experience and create an experience that maybe you can’t achieve in the physical world.”

https://www.techspot.com/news/93560-gpu-hash-rate-unlocker-malware.html Earlier this week, a program was making the rounds that supposedly helped crypto miners get around the limitations of Nvidia LHR graphics cards. It sounded unsafe, to begin with, but now it looks like the whole thing was a malware scam. When Wccftech investigated the Nvidia RTX Light Hash Rate (LHR) BIOS v2 unlocker this week, it turned out to be filled with malware. Videocardz later noted that the malware connects to a remote server and then Tom's Hardware reported that the unlocker doesn't uncap the hash rate, but instead infects PowerShell. Nvidia started shipping new RTX 30 series Ampere graphics cards with LHR caps last year, which limited their capacity to mine Ethereum in the hopes of reducing their attractiveness to miners and easing up the supply for gamers -- the latter part never came to fruition. Earlier this week, Github user "Sergey" advertised the unlocker as a tool to sidestep the LHR by modifying the graphics card BIOS, something all manufacturers frown upon for obvious reasons. On top of that, the unlocker only worked properly with a special driver, which users had to grab from private servers. Since the malware discovery, the program's Github page has disappeared. The program was advertised as compatible with any Ampere card, including RTX 30 series gaming GPUs and Nvidia RTX workstation cards. Promises of Nvidia LHR turned out too good to be true as GPU prices remained massively inflated throughout 2021. However, prices have started to decline this year, signaling a change in the winds for Ethereum mining.

https://www.techradar.com/news/intel-might-be-about-to-make-a-major-linux-move Intel has quietly acquired a German software developer to bring fresh life to a key, decades-old Linux kernel project. In a blog post, vice president and general manager of system software engineering at Intel's Software and Advanced Technology Group, Mark Skarpness revealed that the company had acquired the German firm Linutronix which provides services for Linux-powered industrial systems and also specializes in real-time Linux applications. While neither Intel nor Linutronix disclosed the financial terms of the deal, the acquisition is a sign that the chip giant wants to further commit to an incredibly important yet often overlooked Linux kernel project. According to Intel, Linutronix is the “architect of PREEMPT_RT (Real-Time)” and this patch set can be used to make low-latency communication possible between controllers, sensors, robots, tooling, and other equipment in real-time industrial applications running on Linux. When enabled, PREEMPT_RT changes the way the Linux kernel handles interrupts and locks to allow threads to get additional time on a CPU core with little latency. As a result, developers can use it to configure the Linux kernel for real-time use-cases without having to worry about out-of-tree patches, new kernel versions, or other disruptions resulting from new point releases. Despite its usefulness in Linux-powered industrial systems, like other open-source software projects, PREEMPT_RT is maintained by a small group of core developers. Up until now, the project has lacked enough contributors and funding to be integrated with the main Linux kernel. Still, though, companies have been building products that use this patch and the number doing so will likely increase with Intel's backing. Sharpness provided further details on Intel's plans for Linutronix going forward in his blog post announcing the acquisition, saying: “By acquiring Linutronix, we are deepening our long-standing relationship with a highly respected team of globally recognized Linux experts, adding to the remarkable breadth and depth of Intel’s hardware and software talent. Lantronix will continue to operate as an independent business within our software division, led by Egger and Gleixner.” In a statement to The Register, Skarpness confirmed that Intel intends to continue to support the PREEMPT_RT project as the company believes it is a “critical piece of technology that's going to be used in a lot of places”. We'll likely hear more regarding Linutronix and Intel's plans for PREEMPT_RT once the acquisition is complete.

https://www.arabnews.com/node/2031666/lifestyle “When I was younger, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me on TV, whether it was Disney (or whatever) so hopefully some young girls will be watching and say, ‘She’s like me and she’s Arab as well.’” The multitalented actress and singer Yasmina El-Abd, who recently grabbed international attention with her excellent performance in the Netflix Arabic original series “Finding Ola,” is talking to Arab News about her role in the forthcoming HBO Max series “Theodosia,” an Egyptology-inspired series set in 1906 London and aimed at kids and young adults. El-Abd plays an Egyptian princess called Safiya, and what she appreciates most about this production is “its great representation.” “Safiya is not a stereotypical character. The script is written beautifully, and they’ve worked with Egyptologists to make sure it’s proper information. Princess Safiya is well-educated; she’s funny, eloquent, and just a real Egyptian,” she says. Well-educated, funny and eloquent’ is a description that could apply equally to El-Abd. The 15-year-old, who has Egyptian, Swiss and American heritage, is a confident and smart conversationalist who clearly thinks deeply about her work. El-Abd has been acting since the age of nine and singing since the age of 12. She has so far released three music videos that have garnered over five million YouTube views and has also been a presenter for National Geographic Kids Abu Dhabi. El-Abd spent her formative years in Switzerland, where she was born, before moving to Dubai. She currently lives between Cairo and London. “I’ve always loved performing, loved music, loved being on camera,” she says. “And my parents put me in ballet and choir (classes). When I was younger, my dream was to be a dance instructor and open my own studio. And then I did choir and realized maybe I have a voice, maybe this could be another (option).” Not long after arriving in Dubai, El-Abd went out on audition for various commercials in Dubai. She says that starring in scripted adverts gave her the desire to get into television and movies. Her first non-commercial acting role was in Egyptian director Tara Shehata’s 2019 fantasy, “The Shadow of Cairo.” Essentially Shehata’s master’s degree project, the short film centers around a young girl —Maya — who seeks vengeance for her mother’s tragic death by chasing down sexual harassers in Cairo. “She’s a superhero but without superpowers. This is what makes people want to watch it, because sometimes people are not interested in watching things that are too harsh and aggressive in the way they’re portraying their message,” El-Abd says. “There was a little bit of a fun element to it that made it (an easier) pill to swallow. That’s what I really loved about it.” Next came her first feature film, “Daughters of Abdulrahman,” which delves deep into issues of patriarchy in the Arab world. Directed, scripted and co-produced by Jordanian-born filmmaker Zaid Abu Hamdan, the dramedy boasts a stellar cast, including the acclaimed Jordanian actress Saba Mubarak. It premiered at the 2021 Cairo International Film Festival where it scooped the Audience Award. El-Abd played Hiba, a 15-year-old Jordanian girl (which meant she had to perfect her Jordanian dialect) forced into marrying a man three times her age. “The script was flawless,” she says. “Zaid just really understands the character of a woman.” There was already a theme developing in El-Abd’s projects: Addressing pressing social issues. This, she says, was no coincidence, but a conscious decision on her part. “It took me a while to convince my mom that I wanted to act. When I did, she had just one condition: To (pick projects that) discuss important things. Obviously, there will be times when I do things purely for entertainment, but talking about things that matter is something she cares about and I also care about.” All of which was good preparation for El-Abd’s role in “Finding Ola,” in which she features alongside more A-list Arab stars including Hend Sabry (who was also the show’s executive producer), Sawsan Badr, and Hany Adel. El-Abd more than held her own in such illustrious company with her critically acclaimed, understated performance as Zeina, a teenage girl who’s trying to navigate the grief of losing her mother. “Her relationship with her father was something that needed a lot of character analysis,” El-Abd says. “I have to do this before every role, whether in my head or writing it down; there has to be some sort of backstory that I have in my head (to) understand the character. “Zeina is not a typical teenager, but I think many people can relate to her,” she continues. “She has many issues with her dad after her mom’s passing and she doesn’t want to face them. She’s just not ready to.” El-Abd says that her aim before “Finding Ola” aired was that “even just one girl” would relate to Zeina. “I’m happy that I somehow succeeded in this,” she says. And the young actress hopes that “Finding Ola” may signal the start of a shift in the development of Arabic-language television towards portrayal of teenage life. “Before ‘Finding Ola’ I had trouble finding a script written for someone my age who wanted to act,” she says. “This was very rare. And if it was a girl my age, she’d just be passing in front of the camera, or she’d have one line in the show and then disappear. But Zeina was an important character with an important storyline — a character that is crucial for the show.” El-Abd says the fact that she’s on a Netflix show “(with) all these incredible human beings” hasn’t really sunk in yet. But she allows that she is aware of her newly acquired responsibility as a representative of her age group. “That is definitely a very big (responsibility), but I’m ready to take it on,” she says. Despite her success at such a young age, El-Abd stresses that she knows she still has a lot to learn — and the desire to do so. “It doesn’t matter how good or successful you are,” she says, “you constantly have to work on yourself.”

https://www.pcgamer.com/adults-only-horror-game-agony-unrated-goes-missing-from-players-steam-libraries/ Agony, a hammy survival horror game about a soul trying to escape Hell by finding someone called "the Red Goddess", was released by Madmind Studios in 2018. An adults only version called Agony Unrated followed after some uncertainty and confusion—Agony Unrated was first canceled "Due to technical and legal reasons", then mysteriously appeared on Steam anyway. In an odd reversal of its appearance, Agony Unrated has vanished from the Steam libraries of players who received it for free as a bonus for owning the original game. Madmind Studio posted a blog explaining that the two games "were delinked by Steam." "As most of you know," the post went on, "until now, if you bought Agony you also received a copy of Agony UNRATED in your library. This was always our intended way to do this and that didn't change. As some of you are also aware, games with themes similar to ours can often face some difficulties on this platform. "Unfortunately, we still don't have full knowledge on why they were delinked and we're unable to link the games again using our own tools, so we're now in contact with Steam support to work out the solution that'll satisfy everyone." A look at the history of the package containing both games on SteamDB shows that Agony Unrated was removed from it on February 16. Agony Unrated remains available as a separate purchase on Steam, and players who obtained it that way still have access to their copies. On February 23, Madmind explained it had put together bundles for Agony owners that would discount Agony Unrated to the maximum amount possible in each region, which is anywhere between 65% and 95% off. Obviously, that's not the same as free. As the developer says, "this is a temporary solution and the only one available to us using our tools. We are, however, contacting Steam and GOG as well to ask for a significant number of free keys for Agony UNRATED (for those who are unaware, devs can't generate a big number of keys without giving the platform owner a good reason to do so). If they provide us with those, we'll set up a system where Agony owners will be able to claim their lost copy of the game." Regarding the question of why Steam chose to delink Agony Unrated in the first place, Madmind said it still doesn't have an answer. "The reason that led to this situation is probably (that's our guess) because some players who intentionally bought the game in the censored version also got access to the uncensored version, which they did not want. (There is also a different age rating for both games). "Accordingly, the two games can no longer be linked together and we were asked to remove any posts & announcements that linked to adult-only versions of our games, which you might've noticed as some of the pinned threads have disappeared. We had no choice in the matter as not complying with Steam's demands could lead to a removal of all our games from the platform." https://www.techspot.com/news/93534-graphics-card-shipments-increased-q4-2021-but-dont.html The GPU market appears to be growing again, mostly thanks to a recovering supply chain and a decrease in cryptocurrency mining profitability. Sales of desktop graphics cards increased towards the end of 2021, but we'll have to wait and see if this trend will continue throughout this year. If anything, Intel's entry into the discrete GPU market might spice things up with more options. It’s not exactly the best time to go hunting for the best new or used graphics cards, but things appear to be slowly improving. Prices are nowhere close to MSRP, but they are the lowest we’ve seen in a year. Availability has also improved, mainly due to a decrease in cryptocurrency mining profitability. Another potential reason for this positive development is that the supply chain is gradually recovering from the pandemic-induced factory shutdowns, the energy crunch in China, and a shortage of chips and other components caused by a combination of unrelenting demand and manufacturers building stockpiles for future use. According to a report from Jon Peddie Research (JPR), AIBs shipped a total of around 101 million discrete and integrated GPUs for PCs in Q4 2021. This is only a small 0.8 percent increase over the previous quarter, but JPR analysts expect this market to have an annual growth rate of 4.5 percent through 2025 as supply catches up with demand. Sales of CPUs with integrated graphics were down 21 percent year-over-year, and Intel still dominates the overall market in terms of GPU units sold. Team Blue is flooding the market with 12th generation Alder Lake CPUs with Xe integrated graphics while AMD is readying Zen 3+ and Zen 4 CPUs with RDNA 2 integrated graphics; it’ll be interesting to see how they shape the market in the coming months. When it comes to graphics cards for desktop PCs, JPR says the industry shipped around 13 million units in the three months ending in December 2021, which represents an 18 percent year-over-year growth. AMD’s market share rose from 17 percent to 19 percent, mostly at the expense of Nvidia who lost two percentage points. Intel is getting ready to release its Arc Alchemist discrete GPUs, but it probably won’t have a huge impact on the overall GPU market. Team Blue plans to ship no less than four million Arc GPUs to consumers this year, but CEO Pat Gelsinger doesn’t think the chip shortage will end until 2023 at the earliest.Whether or not Intel will become a strong third player in the discrete GPU market is no longer a question of if, but when. Intel wants to eventually have enough manufacturing capacity to produce its own GPUs, but right now it depends on TSMC - just like AMD and, soon enough, Nvidia. And that's a problem, as Taiwan is running out of skilled workers for its fast-growing semiconductor industry.

https://www.techradar.com/news/migrating-your-data-to-google-workspace-is-about-to-get-a-whole-lot-easier Getting your data moved over to Google Workspace should soon be a much smoother process thanks to a new release from the company. Google says the Workspace Migrate tool offers an easier way for admins to assess and plan migration projects, and "confidently migrate their users and large amounts of critical content directly into Google Workspace." Previously announced in beta way back in 2019, the tool is now generally available to admins across the world for select Google Workspace Editions. In a blog post announcing the news, Google noted that its new tool should be particularly useful for those admins looking to move a large amount of enterprise data, offering a secure and effective way to migrate information and set up on-premises infrastructure. This includes the ability to migrate data from a wide range of sources, including Microsoft Exchange (covering Exchange 2010, 2013, 2016, and Microsoft 365), Microsoft SharePoint (including SharePoint 2010, 2013, 2016, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business), Microsoft OneDrive, file shares, and Box migrations. It will also support legacy G Suite Business and Google Workspace environments, enabling admins to selectively migrate Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and more data between Google Workspace environments. Alternatively, the tool will allow admins to migrate all users from one environment to another, or move specific user data (such as organizational units, users, or subsets of data) between Google Workspace environments. The tool will also allow admins to easily identify project progress and status through frequently updated and detailed logs, as well as being able to quickly scan source environments to help accurately plan for key project milestones and watch points. Google Workspace Migrate is available now for users on Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Standard, Education Plus, and legacy G Suite Business - however not for Google Workspace Essentials or legacy G Suite Basic users just yet. The news comes soon after Google revealed it would be cutting down on users accessing Google Workspace for free. The company announced that all G Suite legacy free edition users would soon be shifted over to a paid version of Google Workspace from July 1 in order to ensure they kept access to tools such as Gmail, Meet and Docs. Google Workplace plans start at $6/user/month for its Business Starter option, with Business Standard ($12/user/month) and Business Plus ($18 /user/month) also on offer, providing an increasing level of services with the amount paid. Google plans to automatically move free users from May 1 to "an upgraded Google Workspace paid subscription", based on its analysis of the customer's usage and the features it thinks you'll need. The company is also offering businesses who don't want to pay or upgrade the chance to export their data at no extra cost.

https://www.arabnews.com/node/2030901/lifestyle Zineb Hazim and Lara Chamandi are the names to know this Milan Fashion Week, currently underway until Feb. 28. The Arab designers are set to showcase their latest Fall 2022 collections this season, and they are certainly ones to keep on the radar. This will be the second time Moroccan-born Hazim has showcased her designs in MFW since her digital debut last season with We Are Made in Italy, a digital fashion show that presents BIPOC fashion designers, and who she is working with again this year. Hazim started her label more than a year ago after graduating from Italy’s Burgo Fashion Institute, and uses her native country of Morocco as a constant source of inspiration. She launched her label after realizing there was no type of clothing that could combine her needs as a professional and as a Muslim woman. Her collection is a modern reinterpretation of modest aesthetics merged with business. She combines traditional Islamic fashion with modern structures, giving customary clothing an unexpected twist. Her brand offers a range of modest pieces, including abayas and pantsuits, with unusual fabric combinations including denim, tweed and embellishments. Meanwhile, Milan-based Chamandi will be debuting her luxury namesake womenswear brand this season. Inspired by the moon, more specifically, her favorite place in her homeland, the Monastery of the Moon in Lebanon’s Chouf Mountains, the collection is also peppered with references to the constellations, particularly Scorpio, and other elements such as crystals and fire. Chamandi’s Fall 2022 collection reflects many of the moon’s effects, including its gravitational pull on the tides, through the fluidity of the designs and fabric, all while making sure pieces are versatile and evoke confident femininity. The range is also eco-conscious, using sustainable plant-based "leather." She is presenting the collection via private appointments. In addition to a new jewelry line in the works, Chamandi is set to debut a special 20-piece capsule collection for spring, which will be available on the brand’s e-commerce website launching on March 2 — the day of the new moon.
