Salt and sugar play an important role in the smooth functioning of the body. Salt is a mineral, which is required to maintain fluid levels and acid-base balance, conduct nerve impulses, and regulate muscle contractions. On the other hand, sugar is a form of carbohydrate and a good source of energy for our day-to-day activities. However, there is no denying that excess salt and sugar consumption is linked to adverse health outcomes. But, it is all right to add the recommended amount to your diet, said Shivani Baijal, senior executive nutritionist, Cloudnine Group of Hospitals, Gurugram “People are often unaware of the amount of salt and sugar they consume because they usually do not keep a tab on their consumption of processed foods and preservatives. Salt recommendation for healthy adults by World Health Organization (WHO) is less than five grams (1 teaspoon)/ day. For children, it is between two to 15 years, it is less than for adults and depends on their energy needs. Free sugar intake is recommended at 5-10 per cent of the total calories. Salt can come into the diet from processed foods like ready-to-eat meals, noodles, cheese, salty snacks like chips and mixtures, processed meats like bacon, ham, salami, etc or through preservative-laden foods such as pickles, jam, jelly, sauces etc. Similarly, free sugar can be added to gravies, sodas, shakes, concentrated fruit juices, candies, sugary snacks etc,.” she explained. The salt and sugar recommendation by WHO is for all individuals, including pregnant and lactating women. “But during pregnancy, if you are under high-risk concerns such as GDM (gestational diabetes) or PIH (pregnancy-induced hypertension) requirements will vary. As simple sugar consumption is not suggestive of diabetes, salt intake should be curtailed by those with high blood pressure. People on drugs like diuretics or steroids and with conditions like kidney disease, heart disease and liver disease, also need to be mindful,” she said. “Therefore, rather than eliminating salt and sugar totally from your diet, it is recommended to include it in a prescribed amount for getting optimum. However, before making any major dietary changes, make sure that you consult a qualified nutritionist or dietician,” she suggested. https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/health/eliminate-salt-and-sugar-diet-facts-benefits-7927998/

One of the best things about the modern world is that you can have a gadget in your pocket for months or even years, and still be surprised at the cool little things it can do. This week it was the turn of the iPhone to make me sit up and go “hey, you’re a neat little guy, aren’t you?” Now I’m not going to pretend you all don't know about this feature already. But the iPhone’s pre-installed Measure app proved invaluable to me this week, and I’ll be using it forevermore as a result. That’s because it’s not only a quick tool for measuring things, but because it also doubles up as a very accurate spirit level. I’ve been in my new(ish) home for about six months now, and it’s been time to put the finishing touches to the place. There’s some pot plants for the balcony sorted out, some smart connected decorative lights on the wall, and, finally, some frames for prints and pictures. The previous owners of the place had already left in place some handy picture hooks, but they felt a bit off – all my frames looked wonky against each other. And, thanks to the iPhone’s Measure app, which has slowly been improving since its introduction in iOS 12, I was able to quickly determine that, yep, I was living in a crooked house. A few tweaked hooks later, and I’m the vision of perpendicular accuracy. Here’s how you can be too. You don’t need to download Measure – it’s pre-installed on every iPhone. But if you can’t find it, fire it up from your iPhone’s Utilities folder. When you first open the app, it’ll be using your iPhone’s camera in its default “measure” mode (more on that later), which uses augmented reality (AR) technology to measure things without the need for tape. You can ignore that – instead tap the small “Level” icon on the right. The app will then turn into a spirit level, using your device’s accelerometer and gyroscope sensors to establish whether or not you’re on a perfectly flat-and-balanced surface. You can use the feature in two ways. If you’re looking to measure a large flat surface, you can place the iPhone on its back, and you’ll see two white circles. Making them overlap will ensure the surface is level – the screen will turn green when that’s the case. If you’re measuring something less wide, turn the iPhone on its edge, and place it on the surface. You’ll then be presented with a more traditional spirit-level interface, with a white line displaying the exact angle you’re off by. Again, aligning the surface until it is level will see the iPhone screen go green. As mentioned above, the app’s default mode is as a tape measure, and if you’ve not used it before, it’s really handy. A modern iPhone’s camera system and sensors are so advanced now as to be able to sense depth – a key requirement of augmented reality (AR) interfaces. As such, the app is able to determine an object’s distance from the iPhone, and use this with relative accuracy to give you a measurement of something’s length on screen. The app is pretty good at determining straight edges of objects (handy for measuring shelves and the like). It then uses a pin system to let you draw a line between two points that you’d like to know the height of. If you get in close to an item you’re measuring from a distance, the onscreen measuring tool will become a full-on ruler, letting you know the precise distance between points of the element you’re measuring. While I wouldn’t use it for architectural purposes, as it’s still requiring you to accurately determine the exact edges of the object you’re measuring, it’s a great way to get a very good estimate of the length of something in a pinch – handy, say, for when walking around IKEA and you’re looking to get an idea of whether or not something will more-or-less fit a gap in your home. And, in one final neat trick, if you point it at a person, it’ll instantly recognize them as a human and measure their height – handy for establishing if your Tinder date may have been exaggerating a little on their profile

The PCB diagram for the ASUS PRIME X670-P WIFI motherboard is particularly interesting in the sense that it showcases various parts of the motherboard. The AM5 'LGA 1718' socket is seen in the center and is surrounded by at least a 14 Phase VRM that is fed power through an 8+4 pin power connector configuration. This will allow full support for AMD's Ryzen 7000 Desktop CPU lineup. It also features four DDR5 DIMM slots which will be able to support up to 128 GB capacities but the speeds are currently unknown. We expect to see over DDR5-6000 (OC) support on the new AMD platform. Moving down to the PCIe and chipset area, we see that there are two chipsets featured on the motherboard. Based on previous rumors, the AMD X670 & X670E motherboards were to make use of chiplets but instead, it looks like there are two separate chipsets that are connected together via a central I/O hub. These two chipsets offer the same I/O as a single B650 chipset does, individually, but when combined, the I/O increases by 2x. Since this is an X670 motherboard & not an X670E part, we can expect the use of both PCIe Gen 5.0 and PCIe Gen 4.0 lanes. There's a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, two PCIe x4 slots, and a single PCIe x1 slot. Storage options include three M.2 ports & six SATA III ports. Other than that, the motherboard seems to feature solid audio and back-panel I/O though we can't say the exact number of USB/TB ports that will be featured on the ASUS PRIME X670-P WIFI board for now. In addition to the ASUS PRIME series motherboards, Momomo_US also revealed that ASUS was working on two ProART series motherboards featuring the X670E and B650 chipsets. These will include

But one Kiwi isn't just asking... he's taking action and has made the trip over to help animals caught up in the chaos. Volunteers have stayed in Ukraine saving animals that have been left behind and reuniting those forced apart. Kiwi man Tim Groenendaal said the images he saw from the Ukraine compelled him to get in contact with major charities in the war-torn nation to understand what they needed. "One of them asked me if I wanted to [come to the Ukraine and] help and here I am." He's been working with local shelters to coordinate support and supplies. He said the animal shelters were thrilled to have people come from overseas to support. "They're overwhelmed and rapt... the more support that Ukrainian people can get from around the world is really important." People can donate to the cause or send photos of their pets to their social media channels as a means of support. https://www.1news.co.nz/2022/05/18/kiwi-man-heads-to-war-torn-kyiv-to-help-save-pets/

Few vehicles are as important in BMW's lineup as the enduring 3 Series. There's a refreshed model for 2023 striving to keep it competitive in the luxury sports sedan segment, offering a few changes on the outside offset by a substantial interior update. Additional technology in the form of BMW's iDrive 8 Operating System makes the most of the sedan's new cockpit. Let's take a quick look at what's new on the outside. Considering recent BMW vehicle debuts, one might view the 2023 3 Series refresh as rather conservative. You won't find split headlights or a deep-drive grille, though the lower grille on the fascia is bigger. The corner vents are redesigned with a distinctive L shape, which is mirrored in the LED elements of the new headlights. The notches on the bottom of the lenses are gone, with the corresponding sharp body lines on the fascia significantly toned down. The kidney grille is a bit wider, and the overall result is a cleaner face versus the outgoing model. You'll find a similar motif at the rear, though far less dramatic. Taillights retain their overall shape but are slightly thinner. The redesigned rear fascia incorporates more L shapes with vertically-oriented reflectors set into black housings. They taper downward, meeting at the base with exhaust outlets on each side. Other exterior touches include special retro-style BMW Motorsport roundels on the hood, trunk, and wheel caps for M340i models, honoring the 50th anniversary of BMW M. The big news for this refresh comes inside with a glass dash makeover, and it's far from conservative. As expected, the 3 Series gains a massive curved display that seamlessly blends the driver instrument panel with the center infotainment screen. The driver gets 12.3 inches of digital real estate for vital information, with a 14.9-inch screen holding station in the middle. The glass cockpit required changes to the central dash, where you'll find slimmer vents and relocated climate control functions. Moving to the center console, the shift selector for the eight-speed automatic transmission is now replaced with a much smaller toggle lever. Along with the snazzy new greenhouse comes more tech, specifically with the sedan's iDrive system now running OS 8. BMW says the graphics and menu structure incorporates a smartphone-style appearance, with functionality making more use of voice commands. There are more digital features for driver and passengers to access, including the cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system, which is standard in all 2023 3 Series models. 5G connectivity is also available, with up to 10 digital devices able to connect and use it. Under the skin, you'll find the same powertrain options from the outgoing 3 Series. That includes the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the base 330i, making 255 horsepower. It's paired with electricity in the 330e plug-in hybrid for 288 combined hp. The M340i ups the ante with BMW's turbocharged 3.0-liter I6 making 382 hp. The 330e and M340i are available with the automaker's xDrive all-wheel-drive system, and for 2023, 18-inch wheels are standard across the board. https://www.motor1.com/news/586441/2023-bmw-3-series-debut/

Despite their best efforts, sleep remains elusive to a lot of people. Not getting enough sleep can cause sluggishness, mood swings, irritability, and it can affect the overall health of a person as well. Sleep issues are known to be associated with increased stress, leading to cardiovascular disorders and hormonal imbalance issues in the long run. So, what can be done about it? If you are someone who struggles to fall asleep despite feeling tired, or are trying to improve the quality of your sleep, nutritionist Nmami Agarwal has some solutions. She took to Instagram to share in a video that two lifestyle habits can do wonders for better sleep. * The first one, she says, is exercising. According to her, it improves the overall quality of sleep. The more physically active you are throughout the day, the more tired you will be, and your body will want to crawl back into bed. * The second thing to know, according to Agarwal, is that you must take short naps instead of long ones. Many people take naps in the day, especially if it turns out to be a long one. But instead of sleeping for long hours and waking up all groggy, it is important to keep the nap short. This way, you won’t find it difficult to get some sleep at night https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/health/two-lifestyle-habits-better-sleep-health-7919829/

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government has decided to complete its constitutional tenure till August 2023, sources told Geo News Tuesday. The development came during a meeting of the coalition partners, where the country's overall political situation was discussed, with the prime minister in the chair. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, MQM-P's Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and federal ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar, Khawaja Asif, and Marriyum Aurangzeb were part of the meeting. The participants of the meeting decided that the government would complete its constitutional tenure in a bid to take the country out of the economic turmoil. Apart from this, the meeting also discussed the Supreme Court of Pakistan's verdict on Article 63 (A) and the situation arising in Punjab after the decision. According to sources, the allies of the PML-N assured PM Shehbaz Sharif that they are with the party and would stand with them on every decision. They also advised the PM to take immediate measures to stabilise the economy. Officials, who attended the meeting, say that the coalition partners advised the economic team to take immediate measures to stabilise the rupee. They also recommended that finalise the IMF programme. The newly formed government is under pressure due to the economic situation as the dollar keeps reaching historic highs daily, while PTI Chairman Imran Khan has repeatedly demanded snap elections. In a major development, the SC today ruled that the votes of dissident members of the Parliament (MPs), cast against their parliamentary party's directives, cannot be counted. The five-member larger bench announced a split decision. The majority of judges, including Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, refused to allow parliamentarians from voting against the party directives under the four instances mentioned in Article 63(A) of the Constitution. Although no PTI member voted for Shehbaz during the prime minister's election, several party members had voted for Hamza Shahbaz in the Punjab chief minister election — leaving his fate hanging in the balance. https://www.geo.tv/latest/417471-govt-decides-to-complete-tenure-sources

Google Pixel Watch was unveiled alongside the Pixel 6a during the I/O 2022 event this week as the company's first smartwatch. Google confirmed that the wearable will be available in the US starting this fall, but ahead of the official launch, a new report suggests that Google Pixel Watch will pack a four-year-old processor. The Samsung Exynos 9110 SoC, which debuted back in 2018 with the Galaxy Watch, is expected to power the wearable. The Google Pixel Watch will come in a circular domed design with swappable wrist bands. It will also feature Fitbit integration for enhanced fitness tracking support. A report by 9to5google has suggested a key specification of the Google Pixel Watch. As per the report, the smartwatch will be powered by the Samsung Exynos 9110 SoC, a chip that debuted with the original Galaxy Watch in 2018. Google is most likely using the older chip because the Pixel Watch has been in development for a long time, notes the report. The Exynos 9110 SoC is a 10nm chip and it features two Cortex-A53 cores. Recently, at I/O 2022, Google teased the Pixel Watch without confirming the launch date and price details. The device will run the latest Wear OS and features a circular display with minimal bezels and curved glass protection. It also has a stainless-steel build. Google has packed customisable, swappable wrist bands on the Pixel Watch. Further, the wearable is confirmed to run on an improved Wear OS UI with more fluid navigation and smart notifications. The Pixel Watch comes integrated with Fitbit and supports Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Wallet. It can be used as a remote for compatible smart home devices using the Home app for Wear OS. It will also offer heart rate tracking and sleep monitoring. Users can also see their active zone minutes when working out and track their stats and progress against different fitness goals. The Pixel Watch will also work with the Find My Device app to help users locate their misplaced Pixel phone, earbuds, or any other supported devices on a map available on their wrist.

While WhatsApp introduces message reactions and further improvements to its desktop app on Windows 11, it looks as though Apple's macOS is next on its agenda. According to WABetaInfo, you will be able to link up an Android phone, as well as an iPhone to the app on macOS, allowing the multiple devices feature to be used. This enables your messages to be managed regardless of your smartphone being switched off. It's a welcome improvement for macOS users, as they may have felt left behind after the redesign that WhatsApp Desktop has been given for Windows 11. But with WWDC on the horizon for June, there's a chance we may see the redesign arrive for Mac users sooner than later. There was a time when you would use your laptop or PC to load up MSN Messenger, AIM, or Adium, depending on your tastes and where your friends and family were on most. But with the advent of apps in 2008 with Apple's App Store, WhatsApp slowly rose through the ranks high enough to be available to other devices and apps, such as your web browser, and recently, the Apple Watch. Meta's messaging app wants to be accessible to the laptop and PC like MSN Messenger was. The desktop app on Windows 11 already offers message reactions, video, and voice calls, alongside being able to send gifs to one another. Having the same experience on macOS after previous versions missing out on these features, will be a big benefit to many, and will result in one less tab being used for WhatsApp Web, where you can manage your messages within a web browser. As we're not far off from WWDC 2022, we could see improvements to iMessage from Apple, which would also be welcome. Seeing new effects or faster ways to access stickers and emojis, would be a great improvement. But it looks like we're close to seeing WhatsApp on macOS as its own app, and that's only a good thing for its users.

Back at the end of April, MetaGravity Studio minted a set of "playable" NFTs called the Retro Arcade Collection. The problem? MetaGravity doesn't own the rights to some of the games it was auctioning off. Waypoint reports that the rights for games like Blizzard's Blackthorne and Remedy's Death Rally still belong to their respective developers, which never authorized MetaGravity to turn them into NFTs. The CEO of MetaGravity, Rashin Mansoor, said in a statement to Waypoint that the games the team chose for its collection were "freeware mostly, and in some cases, game demos." MetaGravity claims that its intent is to "preserve abandonware" in the way "a lot of abandonware sites are doing." The big difference, of course, is that MetaGravity was selling the games as NFTs. Even sites that offer so-called "abandonware" for free aren't necessarily in the clear copyright-wise, but the "abandoned" aspect means no one really cares if they're not charging money for them. Freeware software isn't necessarily uncopyrighted just because it's free, while abandonware is unsupported software whose copyright status may be unknown. Larry Kuperman of Nightdive Studios said it best: "If you keep your car in the garage for a really long time, I can't just take it." Just because Konami hasn't done anything with Suikoden in over 20 years doesn't mean I can just go ahead and make more Suikoden games or sell them on the blockchain without permission. Also, Konami: make more Suikoden games. MetaGravity told Waypoint that it "removed all the games and changed the NFTs now to mint passes for our upcoming NFT-native retro game." So, if you bought an NFT that was one of the retro games MetaGravity didn't own, it's no longer playable. MetaGravity did ultimately pull the offending NFTs from its OpenSea page and is focusing on original projects like Edge of Chaos, a play-2-earn MMO that seems heavily inspired by Warcraft, and Retro Arcade 2.0, both blockchain games. Mansoor didn't seem too upset about the chain of events, claiming the point of this NFT collection "experiment" was to preserve abandonware games on the blockchain. "We've proved the point of the tech demo and going to focus our efforts on the next phase of the tech innovation for playable machine code NFTs," he said. Perhaps the lesson to be learned here is to brush up on copyright law before you decide to mint games on the blockchain.
