  3. (He twisted me like a corkscrew as he dragged me to the river bottom in a death roll) In April this year, I was diving for fossils in Peace river in Florida, not far from where I teach marine science at a private naval academy. At 24, I’d been diving in the area for six years without any problems, and was guiding the dive for two friends, including Jake Koehler, who films videos of his underwater finds for his YouTube channel, Dallmyd. Because of the danger from alligators, we’d usually drop anchor on a particular spot, and bang on the boat and throw rocks to disturb them, as they tend to avoid contact with humans. But we hadn’t got much on film that day, so we decided to take a chance and do something unusual: instead of staying in one area, we jumped in the river and drifted backwards with the current. I drifted into a very narrow channel, about a quarter of a mile ahead of the others, wearing my usual scuba gear: an oxygen tank, a lifejacket and weight belt. I suddenly felt an intense pressure on my left ankle, and, for a split second, I thought it was Jake messing about. We’d been joking earlier that my black wetsuit made me look like bait – the other two were wearing camouflage wetsuits. But then the pressure became unbelievably intense, and I realised it was a gator. He was already twisting me like a corkscrew as he dragged me to the bottom, in what I knew as a marine biologist was a death roll – almost always lethal. My survival instinct kicked in: I’ve never known such mental clarity. The water was only 8ft deep, so I inflated my lifejacket, and kicked with my free leg towards the surface, dragging the gator with me. I could feel him pulling my leg down, and it felt as if I was being ripped in half. As we broke the water, I saw he was around 8-9ft long, his tail lashing in a frenzy as he tried to roll with me again. I knew that if he took me back down, he would twist my foot off. Unlike victims of a shark attack, most people attacked by gators drown rather than bleed to death; my scuba gear had bought me valuable time. But my biggest fear now was that my regulator, which delivered oxygen, would be ripped out of my mouth, or that I’d become trapped beneath a rock or the roots of a tree. I hammered the gator’s head with my free foot as hard as I could, but his jaws were clamped around my ankle with a force equivalent to that of a T rex. I understood that I would only be able to free myself if the gator tried to get a better grip on me with a bite readjustment, so I kept hammering, forcing him to reposition. The pressure on my ankle eased for just a second, and I took my chance. When his jaws clamped down again, this time he got a mouthful of my flipper. Kicking with all my strength, I got my foot out of the flipper and swam for my life to the riverbank. Gators don’t like prey that makes their life difficult, so he didn’t pursue me. I sat panting on the bank in shock, waiting for my friends to surface. His teeth had ripped through two layers of my wetsuit, cutting deep into my flesh, but it was the crush injury that caused the most damage. My ankle was twice its normal size. When my buddies surfaced five minutes later, they had no idea what had happened. Between them, they helped me back to the car, which was parked an hour away, and took me to hospital. Astonishingly, nothing was broken. The doctors said I’d make a full recovery. Medics came from all over the hospital to take a look at me: gator attacks are surprisingly rare, with fewer than 400 recorded in Florida over the past 70 years; few people survive a death roll. Jake posted the aftermath of the attack on YouTube, and, a week later, another diver contacted me, saying he’d found my bright-yellow flipper. The bite marks were massive – it made me realise what a close call it had been. I don’t blame the gator: I was on his turf, and I disturbed him. The attack hasn’t put me off diving; I was back in the river again a few weeks later, posting my adventures on Instagram at @thinkseek – though now I’m careful to stick to an area I’ve already scouted. It’s important to me that young people in particular recognise that we humans are just one part of an extraordinary natural world, and that we can out-think these magnific
  4. The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Gulzar Ahmed, on Tuesday said that NAB had become an obstacle to the role it had to play for the betterment of the country. The purpose for which NAB was established was over, he said. He remarked that the NAB had become an exploitation firm as they put up prisoners for years in prison. Later, its own employees stated that the man was guilty, he added. The chief justice said that NAB should be fined billions of rupees and this penalty amount should be collected from NAB employees as the government would not give a single rupee. He remarked that NAB did not have the ability to work. He observed that NAB’s investigating officers simply did not have the capacity to carry out investigation to its logical end. The Supreme Court on Tuesday dissolved the Sindh Water Commission and Water Commission Secretariat. The court also clubbed the Sindh Coal Authority Karachi case and clean water case. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, heard the case regarding provision of clean drinking water to the residents of Sindh province. During the course of proceedings, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) submitted its report on alleged corruption in installation of RO plants. The court ordered the NAB to complete references regarding cases and other matters in a month. The chief justice said that there was no need to form a commission over the matter. The Water Commission also submitted its report and the court ordered the Advocate General Sindh to ensure implementation of the report. The court directed that quarterly report of each district of Sindh, should be submitted regarding implementation of water commission recommendations. The Supreme Court dissolved the Sindh Water Commission and Water Commission Secretariat and directed the Sindh Water Commission to hand over all record to the chief secretary Sindh. The court said that steps should be taken for effective legislation on clean water supply. The chief justice said that hundreds of thousands rupees were plundered and not a single RO plant was installed. He expressed annoyance over NAB's performance saying that instead of four witnesses, NAB made 200 witnesses in the case. He said that the cases should be decided in one year but here NAB was taking six years. The chief justice remarked that NAB had become an obstacle to the role, it had to play for the betterment of the country. The purpose for which NAB was established was over, he added. He remarked that the NAB had become an exploitation firm as they put the prisoner up to years in prison. Later, its own employees stated that the man was guilty, he added. The chief justice said that NAB should be fined billions of rupees and this penalty amount should be collected from NAB employees as the government would not give a single rupee. He remarked that NAB did not have the ability to work. He observed that NAB's investigating officers simply did not have the capacity to carry out the investigation to its logical end. Addressing the NAB prosecutor, the chief justice said that he remembered the wheat case in which a man committed suicide. He said that the NAB did not file Challan against the real culprit and the honorable man committed suicide. Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan asked what was the ratio of conviction in NAB cases. The NAB prosecutor responded that the conviction rate was 70 percent. Later, hearing of the case was adjourned for one week. Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Tuesday remarked that Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed should have resigned after a train inferno left 70 people dead near the city of Liaquatpur last year. The top judge made the remarks while hearing a case related to the financial deficit of the railways department. Rasheed appeared in court on Tuesday morning on behalf of the government entity. A three-member bench of the top court, comprising CJP Gulzar, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, conducted the hearing into the case on Tuesday. "Can you tell us about the progress you have made in the case? All your records are in front of us," CJP Gulzar said while addressing the minister during the hearing today. "You should have resigned after the train inferno left 70 people dead," the top judge said, addressing Sheikh Rasheed. "Seventy people were burned to death. What is the progress of the investigation into the case?" he asked. "We have acted against 19 people in the case so far," the minister told the judge. However, CJP Gulzar asked Ahmed why the inquiry into the accident had been limited to low-level employees. "You sacked the gate-keeper and the driver. When will you act against the top officials involved in the incident?" the top judge asked. In his reply, Sheikh Rasheed assured CJP Gulzar of action against top railways officials. "Can you tell us why action should not be taken against you for the train accident that left over 70 dead? You are the top-most official after all," the top judge said after hearing the reply from the minister. "In my opinion, Pakistan Railways should be closed down. It is better that the department be closed down rather than letting it run the way you are running it," the top judge said in his remarks, addressing Sheikh Rasheed. The court asked Shiekh Rasheed to submit in court within two weeks a comprehensive plan to make the railways profitable. The court also asked for an update on the up-gradation of railway tracks. The bench summoned Minister for Planning Asad Umar to answer questions about the ML-1 cross-country railway project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as well. The court, before adjourning the hearing into the case till further notice, warned Rasheed that if the plan to turn around the railway department was not complied with, a contempt of court proceeding would be launched against the minister. He said that the life of passengers is in danger while traveling in trains. The CJP also asked about the outcome of an inquiry into the Liaquatpur tragedy, wherein at least 73 people were killed and 48 others injured after a fire engulfed a train. The court also took a strong exception to the audit report of the department. “Your record is not computerised. Nothing is running correctly in the railways," the bench had observed. Shiekh Rasheed, while talking to reporters after the court hearing on Tuesday, said his ministry would abide by instructions of the Supreme Court in improving the affairs of Pakistan Railways. “We are thankful to Supreme Court for taking up this matter. We shall proceed forward in light of its instructions. We shall also request the court to settle the stay orders issue,” he told reporters.

  6. As people age in Spain they tend to give priority to old friends, due to the feeling that their future is limited. This behavior has been observed for the first time in male wild chimpanzees. As we age, humans change the way we interact socially. Instead of continuing to make new friends, old age means that we maintain a smaller network of good friendships, closer and more beneficial. It is what is known as the Theory of Socio-emotional Selectivity, especially driven by the perspective of the time that we have left to live. "This change occurs due to our human ability to monitor our own personal time horizons, that is, how long we have left to live. This makes us prioritize emotionally satisfying relationships when it is perceived that time is running out," Alexandra explains to SINC G. Rosati, Professor of Psychology and Anthropology at the University of Michigan in the USA. Until now, this behavior seemed to be more conducive to human beings, who exhibit unique complex reasoning about their future, but little research has evaluated whether this behavior in social relationships is explicitly influenced by the feeling of impending mortality. Although previous studies had suggested that changes in socio-emotional goals during aging could be independent of future time perspective, Rosati's team wanted to test whether humans shared this behavior with wild chimpanzees, who lack the knowledge or awareness that his life is ending. The study, published in the journal Science, has made it possible to analyze data collected over two decades in the Kibale National Park, in Uganda, on the social interactions between 21 wild male chimpanzees, aged between 15 and 58 years. Iker Casillas's mother speaks after the separation of her son and Sara Carbonero JALEOS | AGENCIES María del Carmen Fernández has always been very discreet with matters that concern her family, but she has revealed how Iker is. Chimpanzee Big Brown is one of the oldest chimpanzees in the group. / John Lower "We discovered that wild chimpanzees share patterns of social aging with humans by prioritizing strong social ties and interacting with others in increasingly positive ways as they age," emphasizes the researcher from the US university, lead author of the work. Research results show that while younger chimpanzees had more one-sided, unequal, and antagonistic relationships, older ones tended to have more equitable and positive friendships. Furthermore, although they are more likely to be alone, older chimpanzees also socialized more with important social partners within the group. "Older individuals also showed a positivity bias in their general behavior by decreasing their aggressiveness while maintaining grooming levels among group members," says Rosati. A social change The study thus reveals that humans and chimpanzees share this social characteristic, without the latter being aware of their own death. "While chimpanzees are able to think ahead in a few hours or perhaps a few days, there is no evidence that any animal can think of itself in the distant future or understand its own mortality," says the scientist. According to the researchers, if the time perspective in animals does not influence the development of this social behavior change in old age, other cognitive abilities may come into play. Among them is the possibility that "older chimpanzees may be less emotionally reactive," Rosati emphasizes. The work thus proposes that the social pattern shared by humans and chimpanzees could actually be an adaptive response. "Older adults focus on important social relationships that provide benefits and avoid interactions that have negative consequences as they lose the ability to compete through struggle," says the expert. In this sense, older chimpanzees can reap reproductive benefits if they have strong friendships and form coalitions. Knowing that these great apes age successfully, have good friends and are quite po[CENSORED]r in the group despite having a lower social status, scientists suggest that it could be applied to "healthier" human aging. "This can help us understand how to age successfully," concludes Alexandra Roseti.

  9. The common raven (Corvus corax), also known as the western raven or northern raven when discussing the raven at the subspecies level, is a large all-black passerine bird. Found across the Northern Hemisphere, it is the most widely distributed of all corvids. There are at least eight subspecies with little variation in appearance, although recent research has demonstrated significant genetic differences among po[CENSORED]tions from various regions. It is one of the two largest corvids, alongside the thick-billed raven, and is possibly the heaviest passerine bird; at maturity, the common raven averages 63 centimetres (25 inches) in length and 1.2 kilograms (2.6 pounds) in mass. Although their typical lifespan is considerably shorter, common ravens can live more than 23 years in the wild, which among passerines only is surpassed by a few Australian species such as the satin bowerbird and probably the lyrebirds. Here are 10 fascinating facts about ravens: 1. Ravens are one of the smartest animals. When it comes to intelligence, these birds rate up there with chimpanzees and dolphins. In one logic test, the raven had to get a hanging piece of food by pulling up a bit of the string, anchoring it with its claw, and repeating until the food was in reach. Many ravens got the food on the first try, some within 30 seconds. In the wild, ravens have pushed rocks on people to keep them from climbing to their nests, stolen fish by pulling a fishermen’s line out of ice holes, and played dead beside a beaver carcass to scare other ravens away from a delicious feast. If a raven knows another raven is watching it hide its food, it will pretend to put the food in one place while really hiding it in another. Since the other ravens are smart too, this only works sometimes. 2. Ravens can imitate human speech. In captivity, ravens can learn to talk better than some parrots. They also mimic other noises, like car engines, toilets flushing, and animal and birdcalls. Ravens have been known to imitate wolves or foxes to attract them to carcasses that the raven isn’t capable of breaking open. When the wolf is done eating, the raven gets the leftovers. 3. Europeans often saw ravens as evil in disguise. Many European cultures took one look at this large black bird with an intense gaze and thought it was evil in the flesh … er, feather. In France, people believed ravens were the souls of wicked priests, while crows were wicked nuns. In Germany, ravens were the incarnation of damned souls or sometimes Satan himself. In Sweden, ravens that croaked at night were thought to be the souls of murdered people who didn’t have proper Christian burials. And in Denmark, people believed that night ravens were exorcized spirits, and you’d better not look up at them in case there was a hole in the bird’s wing, because you might look through the hole and turn into a raven yourself. 4. Ravens have been featured in many myths. Cultures from Tibet to Greece have seen the raven as a messenger for the gods. Celtic goddesses of warfare often took the form of ravens during battles. The Viking god, Odin, had two ravens, Hugin (thought) and Munin (memory), which flew around the world every day and reported back to Odin every night about what they saw. The Chinese said ravens caused bad weather in the forests to warn people that the gods were going to pass by. And some Native American tribes worshipped the raven as a deity in and of itself. Called simply Raven, he is described as a sly trickster who is involved in the creation of the world. 5. Ravens are extremely playful. The Native Americans weren’t far off about the raven’s mischievous nature. They have been observed in Alaska and Canada using snow-covered roofs as slides. In Maine, they have been seen rolling down snowy hills. They often play keep-away with other animals like wolves, otters, and dogs. Ravens even make toys—a rare animal behavior—by using sticks, pinecones, golf balls, or rocks to play with each other or by themselves. And sometimes they just taunt or mock other creatures because it’s funny. 6. Ravens do weird things with ants. They lie in anthills and roll around so the ants swarm on them, or they chew the ants up and rub their guts on their feathers. The scientific name for this is called “anting.” Songbirds, crows, and jays do it too. The behavior is not well understood; theories range from the ants acting as an insecticide and fungicide for the bird to ant secretion soothing a molting bird’s skin to the whole performance being a mild addiction. One thing seems clear, though: anting feels great if you’re a bird. 7. Ravens use “hand” gestures. It turns out that ravens make “very sophisticated nonvocal signals,” according to researchers. In other words, they gesture to communicate. A study in Austria found that ravens point with their beaks to indicate an object to another bird, just as we do with our fingers. They also hold up an object to get another bird’s attention. This is the first time researchers have observed naturally occurring gestures in any animal other than primates. 8. Ravens are adaptable. Evolutionarily speaking, the deck is stacked in the raven’s favor. They can live in a variety of habitats, from snow to desert to mountains to forests. They are scavengers with a huge diet that includes fish, meat, seeds, fruit, carrion, and garbage. They are not above tricking animals out of their food—one raven will distract the other animal, for example, and the other will steal its food. They have few predators and live a long time: 17 years in the wild and up to 40 years in captivity. 9. Ravens show empathy for each other. Despite their mischievous nature, ravens seem capable of feeling empathy. When a raven’s friend loses in a fight, they will seem to console the losing bird. They also remember birds they like and will respond in a friendly way to certain birds for at least three years after seeing them. (They also respond negatively to enemies and suspiciously to strange ravens.) Although a flock of ravens is called an “unkindness,” the birds appear to be anything but. 10. Ravens roam around in teenage gangs. Ravens mate for life and live in pairs in a fixed territory. When their children reach adolescence, they leave home and join gangs, like every human mother’s worst nightmare. These flocks of young birds live and eat together until they mate and pair off. Interestingly, living among teenagers seems to be stressful for the raven. Scientists have found higher levels of stress hormones in teenage raven droppings than in the droppings of mated adults. It’s never easy being a teenage rebel. The RAVEN Spirit; When a Raven totem has flown into your life, it signifies that magic is at play. Raven ignites the energies of magic allowing it to become one with our intentions and will. Great changes can be achieved at this time and dreams can become a reality. The Raven will show you how to walk into the dark corners of your inner conflicts buried deep within, opening the doors to the deepest power of healing to be within our grasp. The Raven is a member of the same family as the crow and the magpie, known as the Corvids family. While they are considered different species, the only real difference is that the Raven is considerably larger than the crow. Since the Raven and the crow are so similar, it is encouraged to also read The Crow Spirit Animal. Although they are quite similar, there are meanings that are unique to the Raven. Raven Meaning The raven animal totem is sometimes called the “Keeper of Secrets” and like all birds is a messenger between the heavens and the earth. The raven encourages us to dive deeper and to look within to seek the answers to put in motion the much-needed change. Often times these messages may be difficult, but soaring over hurdles and obstacles is how we grow most. Here are a few common meanings for this power animal. => Introspection => courage => self-knowledge => magic => healing => creation => rebirth and renewal => rebirth without fear => being able to tear down and rebuild => master magician => shape shifter => mysticism => transformation of difficulties into blessings => being able to find light within the darkness => Courage for self-reflection => Being comfortable with yourself => Connecting with the crone => Omens => Playful aspects => Stir life without fear => Sexuality => Honoring ancestors => Divination => Change in consciousness => New occurrences => Eloquence => Power of thought When Raven Flies Into Your Life Raven is assuring you of the impeding change. He brings with him the ability to bend time and space for the perfect moment at the right time. He signifies rebirth, renewal, reflection and healing. He helps the transitions and transformations move along smoothly by casting light into the darkness. When the Raven enters into your life, human and animal spirits intermingle. It is in the blackness that the Raven symbolizes that everything mingles until it is brought forth into the light. The Raven can help facilitate this moving into the light as well as shape shifting your life or your being. When Raven Enters Your Dreams When raven enters your dreams, expect changes in your life. It can symbolize the ending of a harmful habit or phase in your life. If you see a raven eating away at carrion or stealing food from others, this can symbolize that someone in your life may be taking advantage of your bad luck or an unfortunate event in your life. Raven is a guardian and a keeper of secrets. When he is in your dreams, take note and examine your fears. Working with raven will help you discover and slay your inner demons. If he is silent and still while looking at you, he is working his magic. If he creates a loud raucous, he is trying to desperately get your attention and have you take heed. There is an important lesson that you need to remember or your missing an important clue to the puzzle. If he is flying through the sky playfully, he is letting you know it is time to hold on because everything is going to accelerate quickly. Magic is present. In some instances, a raven can symbolize a death or an end. This is typically seen as feeding on a carrion or the preening of feathers which symbolizes rebirth. Things to Consider The raven has an abundance of folklore surrounding his history. Some positive, some negative. Some have said he brings omens, bad tidings and even signifies impending death. If the collective believes these meanings, then it essentially transforms it to be so. In some cases these omens could be true. It is up to you to decide and perceive the feelings you pick up on with each encounter and circumstance. Raven brings us to a higher awareness of our inner workings, our conscious and unconsciousness. He is a silent observer of his environment. An important lesson you may want to take the time to practice. Observe yourself, your environment and the people around you. The raven is persistent and will find a way to untangle the knots woven in a lifetime so that inner truths may be revealed. To be frank this one is my favorite!

Founded in the United Kingdom in November 1993, the US version was released a year later in June 1994.1 There are also numerous local editions that mainly use the material of one of the two main editions, especially the British one, including a Malaysian edition (discontinued in December 2011) and a Russian one. The Swedish edition, although it has its roots in its British counterpart, has become more independent, largely due to the immense po[CENSORED]rity of PC games compared to that of console games in Sweden, and today produces much of your own material. An Australian monthly edition was published by Perth Conspiracy Publishing since August 1998, but was discontinued in 2004. There is also a Spanish edition entitled PC Games and Players. Both the British and the American magazine are published thirteen times a year (twice in December) 1 although sometimes there are variations. Magazine The British edition of PC Gamer has been published month by month without interruption since 1993. Subscribers receive a special edition of the magazine without headlines (only the main headline and the BBFC classification). Dedicated almost exclusively to PC video games, the magazine has the reputation of offering deep reviews.9 The magazine was originally accompanied by a 3.5-inch floppy disk. A CD with demos (titled CD Gamer) was published in parallel with the flexible disc edition from edition 11 of the magazine onwards. The first disc contained all the content of the first 10 editions of floppy disks. Later, the CD edition was expanded to two discs. An edition with a 9 GB DVD known as DVD Gamer was also published in parallel with the edition of 2 CDs for a couple of years, until the production of the CD Gamer edition ceased in edition 162. The UK edition then It came only with a single double-sided DVD. In August 2011, the British magazine announced that it would stop producing the album from the 232 edition, and replace it with more pages of content within the magazine and exclusive gifts

  12. According to a recently published study, if we approach a cat and blink slowly, the animal will catch it immediately and blink back, thus establishing communication with us A group of cats in a cafe that welcomes these felines in Seoul this week. A group of cats at a cat-friendly cafe in Seoul this week.KIM HONG-JI / REUTERS In one of his reports, Gay Talese takes to taxonomy and starts to classify the cats of New York City. The American journalist tells how, when the traffic slows, the cats begin to appear in herds and very soon they invade the streets, the docks, the surroundings of the Greenwich Village fish markets and every point where the garbage cans abound. The average lifespan of a stray cat is two years, unlike domestic cats, whose average lifespan extends from ten to twelve years or more, Talese writes to continue telling us how stray cats can be classified into three "types ”. On the one hand there are what he calls "wild cats", which are the ones that have to look for life in garbage cans or hunting rats. They are usually "the most disheveled, they have a disturbed look, an insane expression and wide eyes." Continuing with Talese's classification, we have another group of cats well differentiated from the previous one, being that of the "bohemian cats", more docile, and who live on charity, at the expense of people's food scraps. Finally, there are the “part-time cats in a store (or restaurant)”, who use the store (or restaurant) as a pension to eat and sleep, and go out for a walk at night to link kittens. Their number has decreased since the emergence of supermarkets. It can well be said that the cat is, par excellence, the animal of civilization However, Talese's classification, although it is a curious classification, is still a classification of social behavior taken to the animal kingdom. Because all cats belong to the same genus and species: Felis catus, whose domestic origin dates back to the Neolithic, from a distant day when cats approached the barns of the settlements in the fertile area of the Nile Valley in search of the rodents that ruined grain crops. It was then that the human being realized the help that the feline could give him if he was close to him. For this reason, it can well be said that the cat is, par excellence, the animal of civilization. Herodotus, the first chronicler of our civilization, whose extensive coverage of history serves as a journalistic model, tells us in his book II how the Egyptians "are superstitiously fond of cats." If a catastrophe such as a fire occurred, "without bothering to extinguish the fire, they position themselves from time to time as sentries, in order to preserve the cats from the fire." Even the affection of the Egyptians reached such that, when a cat died a natural death, they shaved their eyebrows with a razor as a sign of mourning. The funerals of the cats were true religious ceremonies. Preserved in salt, they were taken in sarcophagus to the city of Bubastis where they were buried. A few days ago the first study on the gestures that cats make to communicate with us was published. According to this work, published on October 5, carried out with 21 cats from 14 different households, every time we look at a cat and it starts blinking it means that it is smiling at us. This is the first research on blinking as a communication gesture between cats and humans. According to this study, if we approach a cat and blink slowly, the cat will catch it immediately and blink back, thus establishing communication with us. Surely the ancient Egyptians knew it, as they also knew that we can never own a cat. The cat is our owner. In fact, every time they come to rub themselves they do so to mark their domain, to indicate their belonging, which they later recognize by smell. Arrived here, it is possible to imagine Gay Talese in New York City, standing in front of a garbage can, taking notes about feline behavior, while a pack of cats blinks at his presence and reaches out to rub against their ankles. Gay Talese surely thought he was classifying them, when in fact it was the cats that were classifying the journalist. The stone ax is a section where Montero Glez, with the will of prose, exercises his particular siege to scientific reality to show that science and art are complementary forms of knowledge.
  13. Throughout history, women have played a huge role in the advancement of science, though it hasn't been much highlighted in our patriarchal power regime. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics have historically been male-dominated fields and even women who wanted to pursue it were often held back by society. However, despite the difficulties of the job and societal pressure, there are many phenomenal women who not only pursued science but excelled in their field thunderously. The contributions were crucial to advancing their field and bringing it to where it is today. Here are a variety of books on the formidable female scientists from across the world. 14. Birds Venezuela Icterus icterus Venezuelan turpial Icterus icterus map.svg The Venezuelan turpial or troupial (Icterus icterus) is a bird belonging to the ichteridae family, native to the American continent. Small in appearance, measuring between 15 and 22 cm, it has a black head and wings and the rest of its body is yellow. They can live alone or as a couple and their melodious singing (? · I) is very peculiar. It is the national bird of Venezuela, thus being chosen in a contest sponsored by the Venezuelan Society of Natural Sciences and officially declared on May 23, 1958. Description This beautiful bird has black plumage on the head and upper chest, while the rest of the body is dark yellow turning orange. The wings are completely black with the exception of a white stripe that runs along each wing when they are closed. The eyes are yellow with a light blue skin outline. Its beak is conical, sharpened and compressed, being one of the most beautiful songbirds in Venezuela. Subspecies Two subspecies of this bird are known (I. i. Metae and I. i. Ridgwayi) while there is still scientific controversy about two other possible subspecies (I. i. Croconotus and I. i. Jamacaii). The specimens of I. i. metae have a higher proportion of yellow plumage on the back and the white stripe on the wings is divided into two sections. The specimens of I. i. ridgwayi are generally stronger and therefore make up the majority of the po[CENSORED]tion of this bird in proportion to the other subspecies. Habitat The turpial is found throughout Panama and the entire north and central zone of South America and is particularly common in the eastern Colombian plains, as well as in practically the entire territory of Venezuela. The Venezuelan turpial frequents warm and not very rainy areas such as the savannah and gallery jungle, where they find abundant essential food for their diet, characterized by insects, fruit, eggs of other birds and eventually other smaller birds. Their varied and melodious song is heard at dawn and is highly appreciated in homes. You can live alone or as a couple. Breeding The mating period takes place between the months of March and September. The Venezuelan turpial does not build nests to incubate its eggs. Instead, they invade abandoned nests, although it is also common for them to take possession of the nest by force, aggressively expelling its occupants. Once it finds a place to live and feed its young, the turpial fiercely defends its territory, so that it can eat the eggs or even the young of other birds that dare to try to occupy its home. In each laying, the turpial lays 3 to 4 eggs, which hatch after two weeks of incubation.
  15. From staying hydrated, moisturising your skin to saying no to hot water bath, it is important to give your skin extra care before the festive season, says an expert. Preeti Seth, Cosmetologist at Pachouli Spa & Wellness Centre, Delhi, has shared some tips that one must start from now to keep your skin healthy. * Stay hydrated: The more you keep your body hydrated, the more youthful you will look. Drinking lots of water is the best way to do away with impurities in your skin, and eliminate waste and toxins from your system. So make sure you drink 8-10 glasses of water every day. * Avoid exposure to sun: Although shopping and celebrations are a big part of the festive season, it is best to avoid too much direct exposure to sunlight. The sun’s strong UV rays can damage your skin texture and make you look dull and tanned. When stepping out, carry an umbrella, apply sunscreen of SPF 45, wear sunglasses and full-sleeved clothes. * Moisturise your skin: Do not wash your face more than twice a day, as it may result in dryness. Additionally, apply a good herbal moisturizer to keep your skin soft and hydrated. * CTM is a must: One must do CTM — cleansing, toning, moisturising — once a day. You can opt milk for cleansing, a good toner as per your skin type and olive oil for moisturising your skin. * Say no to hot water for bathing: Use warm water than hot water for bathing as hot water leads to removal of skin oils which makes it dry.
