The country has purchased a new lot of 420 Bitcoins earlier this week, Salvadorian President Nayib Bukele revealed on Twitter. El Salvador has spent around $25 million (roughly Rs. 187 crore) for this purchase that was made when Bitcoin prices have been skyrocketing. Currently, Bitcoin is trading at $62,953 (roughly Rs. 47 lakh) per token. Bukele took to Twitter to share the news with his three million followers on the platform. With this new lot of Bitcoin, El Salvador now holds 1,120 tokens worth around $66 million (roughly Rs. 494 crore). The central American country is rallying in terms of Bitcoin adoption. Third-Largest Bitcoin Whale Just Bought BTC Worth $37 Million Several Bitcoin ATMs have been installed in the country for instance, which allow people to transact in the cryptocurrency or convert it to fiat. Salvadorians are also beginning to mine Bitcoins using volcanic geothermal energy to reduce the carbon footprint of the process. Bukele had also recently revealed that more US dollars are being poured in to be exchanged for Bitcoin in the country. Twitter's Tip Jar Now Supports Bitcoin Lightning Payments on Android Indicating the success of legalising Bitcoin payments, Bukele's tweet highlighted it was “wild” that 2.1 million El Salvador citizens are “actively using” the Chivo wallet that was launched just three months ago in June. In recent days however, none of Bukele's announcements about Bitcoin purchases have been accompanied by more details, a report by CryptoReportage revealed. The Salvadorian media has also reported that the Bitcoin purchases announced by Bukele have not yet been registered in any of the institutions concerned with El Salvador's monetary policy. 2. https://www.techradar.com/news/microsoft-outlook-update-will-save-you-from-your-own-tired-brain Microsoft is working on an update for email service Outlook that will help users eliminate mistakes from their messages. As per a new entry in the company’s product roadmap, Outlook will soon benefit from Microsoft Editor functionality on mobile platforms. “This feature brings the goodness of Microsoft Editor to Outlook mobile,” Microsoft explained. “We’ll offer users spelling, grammar and refinement suggestions as they type.” The new integration is currently still under development, but is scheduled to roll out to users of the mobile email clients by the end of next month. Microsoft Outlook on mobile With many workers still preferring to work from home than return to the office, the number of emails flying back and forth is still at an all-time high. The latest data from Statista suggests 319.6 billion emails are currently delivered each day, up from 306.4 billion in 2020. Inevitably, with many of us composing a larger number of emails (and working a greater number of hours), mistakes are more likely to creep in - sometimes with embarrassing or even disastrous consequences. Although Outlook on desktop (along with the rest of the Microsoft 365 suite) has benefited from Microsoft Editor functionality for a while now, the move to bring spelling and grammar checks to the mobile client will hopefully minimize the opportunity for typos and other mistakes. In a similar vein, Microsoft also recently announced it is bringing text predictions to Outlook for Android and iOS. In addition to providing an efficiency boost for users in a hurry, the text predictions feature also acts as another route to eliminating language errors from emails. This pair of updates also caters to the large section of employees that have transitioned to a hybrid working model, whereby their time is split between the home, office and any other location. With the partial return of the commute, a larger number of people are likely to be using the Outlook mobile clients, and will therefore benefit from the new facilities Microsoft is rolling out. 3. https://www.pcgamer.com/intel-alder-lake-release-date-specs-performance-price/ The Intel Alder Lake CPU lineup is the 12th generation Core processor family for desktops and laptops. Intel has confirmed that Alder Lake will launch on November 4 2021, with a healthy amount of details being officially made public during its InnovatiON event on October 27. Alder Lake represents a significant shift in how CPUs are pieced together, as it will be Intel's first hybrid design for desktops. It will also be the first desktop processor to use the Intel 7 production process, which was previously known as its 10nm Enhanced SuperFin process—the name recently changed when Intel realigned its naming scheme with other chip manufacturers. Intel Alder Lake slide (Image credit: Intel) The hybrid design refers to the fact that Alder Lake uses a mix of high-performance and high-efficiency cores in one chip package—in a similar way to how ARM has high-power and low-power cores in its mobile chips. That's why the core count above is written as 8P+8E, that's eight big "Performance" cores and eight smaller, more "Efficient" ones. The big Golden Cove silicon is very much like the cores you'll find in Intel's current CPUs and represents an evolution from the Willow Cove core design inside the Tiger Lake CPUs found in Intel's current 11th Gen mobile chips. In case you haven't been paying attention to the budget laptop market, Atom is Intel's low-power, energy-efficient mobile CPU brand. The kind of silicon best avoided by gamers for years, but which has been gradually improving to the point it's now actually decent. The rumours are that Gracemont, which is the version of Atom used in Alder Lake, is now comparable to Skylake's performance, which if true, means that Alder Lake could be a powerful force to reckon with. Indeed early Alder Lake benchmark leaks have it performing very impressively. Alder Lake also packs in plenty of next-gen technology into its design, including support for PCI Express 5.0 and DDR5 RAM. With so many changes, it should come as no surprise that Alder Lake will use a new LGA 1700 socket and be supported by a new chipset family—headed up by the Z690 chipset at the high-end. The important point is you won't be able to drop Alder Lake into current Z490 and Z590 motherboards, you're going to need to start afresh here. RELEASE DATE Greg Bryant showed off Alder Lake running Windows at CES 2021. Greg Bryant showed off Alder Lake running Windows at CES 2021. (Image credit: Intel ) Intel Alder Lake release date For the longest time, Intel stated that Alder Lake would release in H2 2021, but wouldn't be pushed on anything more specific than that. Intel even showed off Alder Lake at CES 2021, back in January 2021, and there have been numerous leaks of specific versions of the chip since. We finally have an official date though, as Intel's 12th generation Alder Lake CPUs will launch on November 4 2021. This information was made public at the Intel InnovatiON event on October 27, something that had been rumoured as a likely place for the official announcement for months now. A total of six Alder Lake chips will be available on November 4: the Core i9 12900K, Core i9 12900KF, Core i7 12700K, Core i7 12700KF, Core i5 12600K, and Core i5 12600KF. Where the K denotes an unlocked chip and the F means there is no integrated graphics and should therefore be a bit more affordable. There have been plenty of leaks prior to this official date though, with qualification samples of the Core i9 12900K being sold in China, and some impressive benchmark results appearing months before the official release date. There are a lot of new ideas being aired in these new chips, which equates to plenty of elements that could have gone wrong along the way. Firstly, there is the whole thorny subject of getting the two different types of cores working efficiently together, with a healthy dollop of Windows scheduler magic needed as well. Intel has worked with Microsoft to roll out a significant scheduler update in Windows 11 that makes the most of Intel's new hybrid design. Called Thread Director, this actively works with the Alder Lake CPU to ensure the right cores are handling the right loads. Alder Lake is also Intel's first desktop CPU to use its problematic 10nm production process, which has now been renamed to the Intel 7 production process. It'll be interesting to see if this all goes smoothly when it comes to efficiencies and clock speeds. Only time will tell on this front. SPECIFICATIONS Advertisement Intel Alder Lake roadmap (Image credit: Intel) Intel Alder Lake specifications We now have the official specifications for Intel Alder Lake, at least for the six chips it is launching the processor family with. More chips are expected down the line, with varying numbers of cores and clock speeds, but for us gamers, the launch line-up is looking pretty sweet anyway. Take a look at the table below and you can start rethinking how you look at CPU specifications. Gone are the simple doubling of cores to get thread counts. There are no TDPs either, as it's been replaced with Base Power and Maximum Turbo Power. There are also separate base and turbo frequencies for the P-cores and E-cores. It's all change.
  4. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/final-fantasy-14-is-fine-with-erotic-role-playingjust-do-it-in-private-please/ Square Enix just updated its guideline for prohibited actions in Final Fantasy 14, offering more clarity on situations like in-game stalking and erotic role-playing. Spend enough time in the game and you'll undoubtedly come across some... questionable use of emotes between players—particularly in some of the more po[CENSORED]r hubs like Limsa Lominsa. Square Enix seem pretty aware of how some emotes can be utilised, calling out things like "using a combination of emotes and motions to mimic grinding against another character" and "using movements that are evocative of sexual activities" as actions that aren't allowed (thanks, PCGamesN). But ERP is one of the few certainties with MMOs, with guidelines further clarifying that you can get your virtual rocks off as long as you're doing it in private and all parties involved are consenting. Encouraging or pressuring other players to participate won't fly, though. Additional guidelines for in-game stalking have also been added, as spotted on Reddit. Things like repeatedly teleporting to a player's location despite being asked to stop, constantly messaging or sending friend requests or using the game to get in touch with someone you're forbidden from contacting in real life are all listed as things that can get you banned. While some may never encounter any problems with other players in the game, it's surprising how quickly Final Fantasy 14 can stop being a safe space for many. The friends list is problematic at times—deleting someone off your friends list won't remove you from theirs, meaning they can still peep your location and what you're up to at all times. Marrying a player grants you a ring that can be used to teleport to them at any time, but divorcing or blacklisting them doesn't disable the ring's teleport ability. It's seemingly small things like this that can quickly snowball and be taken advantage of by crappy players. Couple that with an increase in players between the WoW exodus and the upcoming Endwalker release, having Square Enix take a clearer stand on what is and isn't acceptable is a minor comfort. 5. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-59058945 People in Australia will no longer need an exemption to travel overseas Australia has confirmed it will lift a ban next week that has prevented its own citizens travelling overseas without permission. Australians have spent 19 months under some of the world's strictest border rules, in an effort to keep out Covid. From 1 November people will no longer need an exemption to leave the country - provided they are fully vaccinated. Only Australians are eligible but some rules for foreigners will be relaxed soon, the government said. "Before the end of the year, we anticipate welcoming fully vaccinated skilled workers and international students," Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews said in a statement. Prime Minister Scott Morrison had foreshadowed the reopening of Australia's border, saying it was "time to give Australians their lives back". The changes have been met with delight by Australians and others globally. Many have spent long periods separated from loved ones. "But I'll believe the borders have reopened when I see it and hear the stories of stranded Aussies being able to get home uninhibited," Amy Hayes, who lives in England, told the BBC earlier this month. The lives upended by Australia's sealed border The Australians who are trapped in the UK A surge in vaccinations has allowed some Australian states to end their strategy of eliminating all cases. Mr Morrison has said Australia is "very close" to agreeing to a travel bubble with Singapore. On Tuesday the Asian city-state said it would allow fully vaccinated Australians, permanent residents and their families to enter without quarantine from 8 November. But states such as Queensland and Western Australia have threatened to keep their borders closed until vaccine rates are even higher. Media caption,This family made it back to Australia but was initially banned from seeing their dying parent in Queensland At present, people can leave Australia - which has recorded more than 160,000 Covid infections and 1,653 deaths - only for exceptional reasons such as essential work or visiting a dying relative. Entry is permitted for citizens and others with exemptions, but there are tight caps on arrival numbers. This has left tens of thousands stranded overseas. Australians under 12 will be exempt from the new vaccination requirement for travel. All other unvaccinated travellers still need exemptions and must quarantine for 14 days in hotels on return.
  6. https://gadgets.ndtv.com/internet/news/iit-madras-diploma-course-vr-virtual-reality-date-apply-2022-2589299 Engineering students in India will be able to learn and train themselves in virtual reality (VR), the next frontier in the emerging technology space, at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, starting next year. The premier institute and Japanese firm Monolith have joined hands to launch an advanced diploma programme on VR for the first time in India. The course will be available both online and offline. For those unaware, VR is a computer-generated environment that appears to be real, making the user feel they are immersed in their surroundings. The objective behind launching the course is to skill individuals in a new technology to build capacity and serve the needs of the industry. There is a growing need for highly skilled professionals in VR, augmented reality (AR), extended reality (XR), and haptics technology, IIT Madras said in a statement. The first batch will commence in January 2022, and students can apply for the programme starting November. Fifty students will be admitted to the course annually, the institution said. Anyone with an engineering programme, including students currently enrolled in engineering degrees anywhere in India, can apply for it. Those who want to upskill themselves can also apply. There is a growing demand for professionals skilled in VR in IT companies, animation industries, architecture, engineering, healthcare, and media production. “Virtual reality is inherently a practical and an interdisciplinary course. Offering such an experiential and interdisciplinary course online is quite challenging. Both IIT Madras and Monolith have taken this as a challenge to offer this course for the first time in India," said Prof. M. Manivannan, Department of Applied Mechanics, IIT Madras. IIT Madras and Japan's Monolith Research and Training Labs recently signed an MoU for this collaboration. The Centre of Excellence on Virtual Reality and Haptics will coordinate the course. Yathirajan Varadharajan, director of Monolith, said, “Experiential and immersive technology is rapidly developing and transforming key industries, from architecture and engineering to healthcare and media production." Varadharajan added that various studies and research papers on immersive technology suggest that it has the potential to boost the global economy by $1.5 trillion (roughly Rs. 1,12,37,625 crore) by adding 23 million jobs. This includes enhancing the existing jobs by 2030 or creating new jobs.

Photoshop is likely the more famous app of the two, and has just stolen some of the Adobe Max headlines with the arrival of Photoshop for Web. But Lightroom is the organizational and editing bedrock of many photographers' workflows, and all three versions of the app – mobile, desktop and Classic – have just received some great-looking updates. We’ll bring you a full review of the latest version of Lightroom as soon as the updates roll our into our Creative Cloud subscription – look out for Lightroom Desktop version 5.0, iOS version 7.0 and Android version 7.0 any day now. The 5 best new features coming to Adobe Lightroom 1. Proper masking and selection tools For the longest time, 'masking' has been a solid answer to give when someone asks why you would round-trip an image to Photoshop. Sure, Lightroom has always offered masking – we could barely function without its excellent and easy-to-use gradient filter – but now, for the first time, we'll get proper, adjustable and refine-able masks. Lightroom will also get two new types of mask, joining the gradient, circular, and brush options, with Select Sky and Select Subject both making their AI-powered way over from Photoshop. Masks can be inverted as well – this was possible before with gradient and circular masks, but not with masks that you’d applied manually with the brush tool. As you’d expect, you can create multiple masks. Image 1 of 2 A screenshot of Adobe Lightroom's new masking tools on a landscape photo (Image credit: Adobe) A screenshot of Adobe Lightroom's masking tools being used on a photo of a horse (Image credit: Adobe) A screenshot of Adobe Lightroom's new masking tools on a landscape photo (Image credit: Adobe) A screenshot of Adobe Lightroom's masking tools being used on a photo of a horse (Image credit: Adobe) Another power-user feature of the new masking and selection tools is the ability to name masks, which is another useful feature that Photoshop users will like. All in all, the new masking and selection tools make Lightroom significantly more powerful – in a lot of ways they become de facto adjustment layers, and in our experience, will save on round-tripping images out to Photoshop pretty often. That’s not to be sniffed at – round-tripping images is expensive both in terms of time and storage. We have questions. What will happen to masks if you create them in Lightroom and then attempt to open an image in Photoshop? Is there a limit to the number of masks you can create, and does the inclusion of “select sky” presage the development of the “replace sky” tool currently in Photoshop proper? These questions should largely be answered when the upgrade touches down. The new masking feature is coming to all versions of Lightroom, plus Adobe Camera Raw. The sky and subject selection tools, meanwhile, are coming to all versions, with the exception of a currently-unannounced list of unsupported mobile devices. Are we jazzed about this one? Embarrassingly so. Best free Lightroom presets 2021: top presets for portraits, weddings and more 2. Crop shop The other main improvements to Lightroom are constrained to the cloud-based Lightroom (rather than what we refer to as 'proper' Lightroom Classic), as well as Lightroom Web and its mobile iOS and Android versions. These include the 'strange it wasn’t there at launch' inclusion of crop overlays – you know, the ability to see gridlines on your images when you crop them. A screenshot of Adobe Lightroom's new crop overlays on a laptop screen (Image credit: Adobe) These will include traditional grids and rule-of-thirds guidelines, as well as golden ratio and spiral guides to go alongside the already-included ability to crop to a particular aspect ratio. A little strangely, this one’s only coming to the desktop version of Lightroom, with keen-to-crop mobile and web users left out in the cold. 3. Recommended presets Advertisement Adobe is continuing to lean into cloud computing and AI with recommended presets, a feature that's coming to Lightroom (not the Classic version), as well as the mobile and web versions of the software. Described as a “springboard” for those looking for editing inspiration, Recommended presets will look at the image in question and suggest a preset that might suit it. Impressively, this won’t be restricted to the presets you have stored locally, but will include presets released (presumably) for free by the community. A screenshot of Adobe Lightroom's new recommended presets (Image credit: Adobe) This could be a really great way of finding appropriate presets, and for those stuck without a clear vision for how an image should look, a great way of getting started without the trial and error. On the subject of presets, Adobe is continuing its foray into the world of paid-for presets, with another pack of eight preset packs to be released soon and available for all versions of Lightroom. 4. Community Remix The question of creating a successful social network that appeals to photographers has been a vexed one for some time. With Instagram increasingly focusing on video to counter the threat caused to its numerical supremacy by TikTok, Adobe fancies it can see a gap in the market. Consequently, give a warm welcome to Community Remix, coming to the desktop versions of Lightroom initially, with rollout to other platforms coming “soon”. A screenshot of Adobe Lightroom's new Community Remix feature (Image credit: Adobe) The premise is simple – share an image online and the community will be able to open it locally, edit it, and upload the results to the applause (perhaps) of the masses. You’ll also be able to do that the other way around, of course, opening the work of others to provide your own interpretation of their image. It’s a really interesting idea, particularly for those starting out photographically and looking to do justice to their images in post-production. A useful way of learning new skills, looking at your images differently, and stretching your knowledge to the limits? It all depends on how warmly the new feature is greeted by the community, but it’s a promising idea to say the least. 5. Lightroom Academy Advertisement On a similar educational theme, the web version of Lightroom will also be branching into photography education with a new resource called Lightroom Academy. The aim is apparently to teach learners some of the fundamental concepts of photography in an interactive way, starting with a series on composition. You can work through the lessons at your own pace, and they looked nicely laid out if not exactly revolutionary. A screenshot of Adobe Lightroom's new Lightroom Academy site (Image credit: Adobe) The images come from the Lightroom community, while the quiz-like challenges and 'On Your Own' exercises bring a crucial interactive element, although it's a shame these don't take place within Lightroom. Still, it's entirely free (including non-subscribers) and Adobe is promising to update Lightroom Academy with new classes and resources in 2022. Though a release date wasn't mentioned, it went up for preorder on Steam and the Paradox Store and was expected fairly soon. As Paradox has announced on its forum, however, it won't be ready this year. When it is ready, Royal Court will add a 3D throne room, in which you can hold court with your vassals and courtiers. A new grandeur system will let you spend money to keep up appearances, and an enhanced culture system will take language differences into account (and let you learn new ones), as well as each culture's varying ethos, traditions, and pillars. Artists and craftspeople, attracted by your fine court, will bring treasures and artifacts in return for patronage. The developers aren't happy with the Royal Court expansion's current stability, and write, "There are a number of bugs we really need to iron out, and are taking more time to make sure it is in line with the standards you expect." 14. https://www.techradar.com/news/microsoft-is-already-getting-pushy-about-windows-11 Microsoft has started to roll out a fresh update for Windows 10 that will preload the divisive PC Health Check app onto your device via the latest Windows Update (KB5005463), mentioning that the update won’t be pushed out to people already using the new operating system. This app is used to quickly inform users if their device meets the requirements to upgrade to the new Windows 11 OS, but given the strict system requirements needed to run it, many laptops and desktops are ineligible, despite some of them running seriously beefy components. Check out our Windows 11 review How to downgrade from Windows 11 to Windows 10 How to download Windows 11 right now It's optional...for now OnMST reports that the app will automatically update itself, rather than make you keep it up to date manually, which is a small blessing – but for users who are fully aware their system isn’t eligible to run the new OS (or had no plans to upgrade regardless), this could be seen as an unnecessary nuisance. Thankfully though, this update is completely optional, so you can ignore it or prevent your system from downloading it if you're signed up for automatic system updates. Having the PC Health Check tool on your system won’t do any harm, but it’s reasonable that some folks won’t want any unnecessary programs on their devices. “This update installs the PC Health Check application onto Windows 10, version 2004 and later devices. However, we will not install PC Health Check on Windows 11 devices. PC Health Check includes diagnostics to monitor device health and troubleshooting to improve performance, all from the convenience of a single dashboard,” the company explained on the support page. Analysis: a disguised nuisance A Windows 10 system menu showing Windows 11 compatibility (Image credit: Microsoft) Despite Microsoft's statement, we anticipate that prompts to upgrade will start to get intrusive over the coming months or years. After all, if the PC Health Check tool was only being pushed to "monitor device health and troubleshooting to improve performance" then surely Windows 11 would also see some benefit from having it? There are good reasons why people are in no rush to upgrade to Windows 11, with cases of computers using AMD Ryzen processors seeing a drop in gaming performance, and perfectly usable devices without a TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) component installed unable to meet the strict system requirements put in place by Microsoft to boost security. Irrespective of whether avoiding upgrading is willful or due to incompatible hardware, there shouldn’t be any need to rush to upgrade to Windows 11, as Windows 10 will be supported until 2025. That said, Microsoft is known for being pushy when it comes to people using its products (as anyone who doesn’t use the Edge browser can attest), so a tool that was designed to check Windows 11 compatibility being rolled out across current Windows 10 devices isn’t filling us with confidence. Optional or not, we anticipate that Microsoft will adopt firmer tactics to make Windows 10 users upgrade over the next few years before support for the older OS is dropped, and for good reason. It’s in the company's best interests to move its customers over to this new, more secure operating system even if a small minority of that user base is stubborn.

It's barely Halloween and already Razer is offering deals on gaming keyboards, gaming mice, and gaming headsets. In terms of gaming keyboards, Razer's standout offers are the Huntsman Elite, Huntsman Tournament Edition, and BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma V2, and Razer BlackWidow—all keyboards I've used plenty, so feel comfortable vouching for. All of these are 25% off with the code FUTUREAFF. The BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma V2 is a keyboard I feel especially strongly for, however; I once wrote a lengthy verse on just how plush that included wrist rest is. Seriously, it's so soft, comfortable, and super supportive. So that gets a nod of approval from me, especially when that discount code brings the price down to $105. There's also the BlackWidow V3 in both full-size and tenkeyless versions, although these are only 20% off the list price. Image Razer BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma V2| Orange Switch (tactile) | $139.99 $105 at Razer (25% off) with promo code FUTUREAFF The BlackWidow Tournament Edition offers a compact and plush board for when mouse maneuverability is key. VIEW DEAL Image Razer Kraken Kitty gaming headset | $149.99 $120 at Razer (20% off) with promo code FUTUREAFF It looks pretty sweet, obviously, but the Razer Kraken headset lineup is also as dependable and solid as they get. VIEW DEAL Image Razer DeathAdder V2 Mini gaming mouse | 8,500 DPI | 62g | $49.99 $37.50 at Razer (25% off) with promo code FUTUREAFF A lightweight and compact mouse with a great sensor. Not much more you can ask for under $40. VIEW DEAL That code is also good for 20-25% off heaps of gaming mice, but some worth mentioning are the DeathAdder V2 Mini, a real slick lightweight mouse; the Basilisk V2, a finessed classic; and the Viper Ultimate, which is your wireless option out of those three. All of which we've enjoyed using in the office. As for headsets, the Kraken Kitty has 20% slashed off its price. That's all you really need to know, but there's also the Nari Ultimate or Threshers at a discounted price if those are more your style. That's just scratching the surface of what's available, so go check out the discount page yourself to get the complete picture. Just don't forget to apply the coupon code: FUTUREAFF. Razer is sure to continue wheeling and dealing ahead of the bulk of Black Friday deals this November, as it has most years. Though, as we've mentioned previously, this year's Black Friday could be a weird one. You might find it's more about finding available stock than finding great deals. That said, as these early deals show, there is potential for saving a buck or two if you get in there early.
  16. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/dice-affirms-that-battlefield-2042s-specialists-are-here-to-stay/ Video game publishers like to throw around the word "beta" a lot these days when most betas are more like demos, but in the case of Battlefield 2042's recent open beta, it looks like a lot will be different when it releases for real on November 19. In a blog post published today, DICE talked about the biggest changes players should expect to see in the game following the beta. The post immediately touched on the subject of specialists, Battlefield 2042's controversial hero-like characters that replace the classic class structure from past games. DICE acknowledged player concerns over a perceived lack of team play in the beta, which featured four playable specialists out of the 10 total planned for launch. "During the Open Beta we heard some feedback that Specialists were limiting teamwork, and we wanted to address this concern head-on," the post reads. DICE says the beta build that everybody played was missing "numerous improvements to the user interface" that are "vital to team play" and will be in the game at launch. The final game will apparently have clearer UI markers denoting who needs healing/ammo, plus clear bonus points awarded for players performing support tasks (Transport Assists, Spawn Support, Resupply, and Heal support were mentioned). DICE also thinks access to the full roster of 10 will give players a better impression of specialists in the full game. "Now that all the cards are on the table, let us know what you think!" More specialists should naturally mean fewer clones of Mackay running around shooting grapple hooks, but DICE isn't backing down on allowing any combination of any specialists on a squad at once. Squad comp matters," the post reads. "In Hazard Zone, we’re keeping things tight and deliberate on squad comp. Specialist selection will be unique, and we’re not running with duplicates inside the squad. In All-Out Warfare, we’re not using the same restrictions; we’ve been learning since Battlefield 1942 that our game just isn’t fun when you can’t play to your strengths, and there’s been lots of iteration done in this area in all of our games across the franchise’s history. In Battlefield 2042, you’ll enjoy the freedom of moving between the Specialists and loadouts that you need to support the squad, and there are parts of the experience that we have in our builds today that help to reinforce that." So basically, things will remain as is in the standard Conquest mode, and it looks like all of those players who want the generic soldier factions back won't get their wish. Specialists are here to stay. Though apparently, the earliest hours of Battlefield 2042 will feel closer to the old class setup. DICE says that for the first "4-6 hours" of gameplay, players will have access to fewer tools in their gadget slot (beginning with the medical crate, ammo crate, rocket launcher, and repair tool) and have to work up toward the suite of gadgets we used in the beta. "That traditional experience of a Battlefield game, where classes fulfill traditional roles is an experience that you graduate out of through the first ten levels." DICE is also rebalancing healing and revives to give medics a bigger role on the battlefield. Health regeneration will take a lot longer to kick in from here on, making it more important for someone to carry a medkit or play as a dedicated healer like Falck. Speaking of Falck, her syringe gun has "received enhancements and tweaks" that improve the feedback you receive when successfully healing a teammate. The syringes themselves will also "magnetize" to friendly targets easier, meaning you'll (hopefully) no longer need godlike aim to heal teammates. Here are a few other changes specific to beta feedback that DICE said will be in the full game: Increased the number of Tanks that you’ll experience on Orbital. It’s up from 4, to 8 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 Made changes to movement, adding strafe input to sliding, adding the ability to vault on moving objects, and toning down jump spamming. A nearby Grenade Indicator has been added. Entry and Exit animations are now shorter, with some being removed entirely. Elevators have been fixed so that you see less funky behaviours with doors. Those are the highlights, but the full blog post covers a lot more, including server issues and enemy readability changes. Those who care about the finer details of a Battlefield game should certainly give the whole thing a read.

  18. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-59023435 A seal native to Arctic waters which turned up in a bay in Aberdeen has been nursed back to health and returned to the wild. Ringed seals have been spotted in the UK no more than 30 times in the last century. But in August, one was found in Cove Bay. Rescuers said the young male was lethargic and had multiple abrasions. The Scottish SPCA said the seal pup had been rehabilitated and then on Saturday was released back into the water. The charity believes the seal, which it named Hispi, could have made his way down to Aberdeen as a result of his mother searching for food to the north of Scotland. He was initially mistaken for a common seal pup because ringed seals can venture to Greenland or Norway, but it is unusual for one to be found as far south. Hispi IMAGE SOURCE,SSPCA Image caption,Hispi spent the night before his release at the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary in Shetland Hispi was between six and eight weeks old when he was rescued. He was taken to an SSPCA rescue centre, where he was cared for until he was released back into the wild. The charity's team flew the seal to Shetland in the hope he would be able to make his way home from there. 'Back where he belongs' The SSPCA's Sarah Beattie travelled north with him. "We're delighted to be able to release Hispi back in to the wild where he belongs," she said. "We're not sure how he ended up in Aberdeen or what caused him to be separated from his mother. "Although he was only six to eight weeks old when he came in to our care, he recovered well from his injuries and quickly began putting on weight. "Our team arranged for him to be flown to Shetland so that he could be released from the most northerly point in Scotland and have the best possible chance of making it back home where he belongs." She continued: "We couldn't be happier with how the release went. He didn't hang about for very long and it was great to see him back in his natural habitat and starting his journey home. Before his release on Saturday, Hispi spent the night at the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary on the island.

  20. https://www.techradar.com/news/windows-xp-turns-20-why-its-time-to-say-goodbye Monday October 25th marks the 20th anniversary of Windows XP, the first operating system launched by Microsoft in the 21st century. Codenamed “Neptune” during development, Windows XP was originally just intended for the consumer market. However, an update to Windows 2000 for the business market was scrapped and the two projects merged. Windows XP was launched to great acclaim and received positive reviews for its performance and stability, a more intuitive user interface, improved hardware support, and its expanded multimedia capabilities. It was famed for its green start button and blue task bar. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jake Moore, Cybersecurity Specialist at ESET. Whilst Microsoft recently launched Windows 11 (codenamed “Sun Valley”) to much fanfare, several critical PCs still run on Windows XP. In fact, it is thought that 0.6% of the 1.3 billion Windows PCs worldwide still rely on the aging operating system. This is despite Microsoft ending mainstream support for Windows XP back in 2009 followed by extended support in 2014. That means 8 million PCs around the globe are currently out-of-date and unprotected to the latest breed of cyberattacks. Legacy critical infrastructure deployments What makes it worse is that these unprotected Windows XP PCs are often in critical infrastructure deployments. For example, a significant number of ATMs still use versions of Windows XP. In fact, at the time of extended support ending in 2014 it was estimated that more than 95% of the three million ATMs in use worldwide were still running on Windows XP. There are several high-profile examples of legacy systems being hacked since support ended. In 2017, the dangers of running unsupported out-of-date IT systems were illustrated when the notorious WannaCry ransomware tore through the NHS’s outdated systems in a matter of hours. The highly publicized attack caused £92m worth of damage and disrupted a third of all NHS trusts in England. Whilst Microsoft released a posthumous patch to address the vulnerability, it was too late. A year before, the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia’s Windows XP network was struck down with the QBot virus. The virus infiltrated major hospital systems, forcing staff to resort to fax or phone to communicate. It took the hospital over two weeks to contain the virus, which mutated up to six times a day. Four in ten businesses (39%) and a quarter of charities (26%) report having cyber security breaches or attacks in the last 12 months. It is particularly prevalent in medium sized businesses (65%), large businesses (64%) and high-income charities (51%). This has meant that the need to fully patch business critical systems has never been higher. Important patches to newly found security holes continue to be released at unerring regularity. Microsoft releases patches on the second Tuesday of each month, jam packed with security updates. In its most recent “Patch Tuesday” update, the company rolled out security patches to no fewer than 86 loopholes it found in operating systems much more technically advanced than XP. While antivirus and other endpoint security measures are an important line of defense, effectively applying software updates and patches removes many of the vulnerabilities that cybercriminals target today. However, in these days of remote working, applying such updates can sometimes be difficult. Luckily, help is at hand. By using a multi-platform patch management solution, IT admins can get complete visibility over the patch status of their systems and provide guidance to staff so that they know what to patch and how. You can’t patch what isn’t there Effective patching is a critical security precaution for businesses of all sizes. The benefits are numerous. It provides a more secure environment for your staff and helps protect your business from potential security breaches. But more than that, it allows the business to continue to innovate, avoid unnecessary fines and promotes system uptime which leads to happy customers. The last point is particularly important. We all saw the furor that the recent Facebook downtime caused, where businesses which use social media to connect with consumers were faced with irate customers and a significant financial hit. However, the struggle for businesses is that you can’t patch what isn’t there. And in the eyes of Microsoft, Windows XP is no longer there. With every additional year after the end of extended support, the likelihood of security issues and incidents increases. Therefore, now is the time to say goodbye to Windows XP and move to a supported operating system. A vulnerable server could expose hundreds or thousands of passwords and be used to access and steal files from mapped drives. Unfortunately, 20 years on and businesses still use Windows XP in great numbers. Until they update, the industry must remember the left behind.
  21. https://www.pcgamer.com/razer-psu-cpu-cooler-fans-razercon-announcement/ Razer is no stranger to the component game. It's slapped its badge on a motherboard, a PC case, and even a small form factor PC. But now it wants inside your PC case for real, and over at Razercon it has announced the first run of its new PC components range, with a line-up of all-in-one liquid coolers, fans, a PWM fan controller, and its very own PSUs, to go about doing that. The company has dipped its toes in these infested waters before, partnering with ASRock on a specific B550 Taichi Razer Edition motherboard, but with the recent hire of Richard Hashim it's going full tilt at components. If you wanted any more evidence of who Razer has in its sights, Hashim is one of the co-founders of Corsair. So let's start with the all-in-one liquid coolers, called Razer Hanbo. These are built in partnership with Asetek, which if you don't know are responsible for swathes of today's top liquid coolers. So you can expect a fairly similar construction. They're pretty stealth looking, though, and the RGB lighting is actually rather tastefully done, with just a few rings of light around the pump enclosure and each fan. Razer Hanbo coolers will come in either 240mm or 360mm radiator sizes, and include a set of Razer's new fans, the Razer Kunai. RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... 22. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/the-first-things-we-want-to-do-in-the-gta-remasters/ GTA 3 was mind blowing in 2001. It was a whole city at a time when 3D games had only just started to break out of rooms and hallways—it's only three years removed from the original Half-Life—and unlike most games, it wasn't sci-fi, fantasy, or kids' stuff. It was rude. There were swears. You could run people over indiscriminately, but unlike Postal, which was purely about upsetting the media with pointless violence, it took place in a world people lived in, one that seemed to function without you. Does GTA 3 hold up today? Probably not as well as Vice City or San Andreas, and how well they hold up is itself a question, but we're curious to see how they feel in the remastered GTA Trilogy collection releasing later this year. Here are the moments we're most looking forward to reliving: Flying the Dodo in GTA 3 This isn't as much my memory as my older brother's, but wow, GTA 3's first plane sure seemed like a chore to fly. Aptly named the Dodo, it was a short-winged propeller plane that was never designed to stay in the air for more than a few seconds. I wasn't allowed to play GTA 3 when it came out (on account of being five), but I watched my older brother play a lot, and one afternoon he became obsessed with mastering the Dodo. For hours I watched him try to jump the Dodo over a river, jamming buttons to nudge the nose into the air and tumbling into the water every time. That was basically what I thought Grand Theft Auto was for the next few years—a frustrating flight sim in which all the planes suck. Of course, the internet eventually learned how to fly the Dodo indefinitely, and even soar it high enough in the air that you can see all of the Liberty City buildings that have no tops. —Morgan Park RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... It was a fun endurance challenge—a test of patience where any big move would send you plummeting back to the ground. But with enough practice you could maintain a stable enough flight to leave the city altogether—flying over to an off-map city block known as 'Ghost Town', where the game's introductory cutscene was set. —Phil Savage Making cars fly Cheat codes were still pretty common when GTA 3 released, and it set a great baseline standard for how much nonsense players should be able to get up to in open world games. The GTA Vice City cheats and GTA San Andreas cheats that followed kept the tradition alive—Rockstar is one of the few developers that never abandoned it—and I think I've spent more time messing around with cheats in GTA games than actually doing the missions. Speed up the game clock and turn on flying cars for the true GTA hard mode. —Tyler Wilde Shout-out also to the extensive pedestrian AI cheats that let you arm every civilian, set them to riot mode, and turn the entire island into a messy survival playground. An absurdly fun way to mess around in GTA's sandbox, it's a shame that Rockstar's GTA 5 cheats are so tame by comparison. —Phil Savage Climbing into a Rhino tank Sure, GTA games are known for their satirical writing, referential mission scenarios and expansive world building, but sometimes you just want to ignore all that and cause havoc in a sandbox city filled with things to shoot. And that's the joy of the Rhino tank. It's a near-indestructible beast of violence and fury—letting you roll over cars and fight off whole SWAT teams with ease. Plus you can fire it backwards to gain a speed boost, which is very silly. There's a handful of showcase missions with the Rhino at the centre, but the real fun is just stealing one from a military base and wreaking havoc in your own time. —Phil Savage
  23. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-58977080 Two and three-wheelers are going electric faster than cars in India India sold more electric vehicles in September than any month previously. Sales have been rising since April - the start of this financial year - and are already nearing the previous year's total. It's a glimmer of hope for an industry that has been struggling with a global shortage in semiconductor chips, coming on the heels of a period of sluggish growth. But it's only a glimmer. Electric vehicle sales - 121,900 this financial year - account for only 1.66% of India's 20 million automobile sales, according to the Delhi-based think tank Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). Some electric vehicle firms, especially makers of two-wheelers, are betting big, but the demand is lukewarm for cars and commercial vehicles like lorries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is trying to change that with a $3.5bn (£2.5bn) scheme to boost manufacturing. Electric vehicles will also cut emissions as pressure ratchets up for India, the world's third-largest carbon emitter, to set more ambitious climate goals ahead of the COP26 summit in November. The electric alternative is also growing in appeal as global oil prices surge, taking India's fuel import bill to a staggering $24.7bn. Why Kerry failed to get emission pledge from India Why electric cars will take over sooner than you think "It's part-climate change and part-economics," said Gaggan Sidhu, the director of CEEW. But is India ready for what is arguably the biggest shake-up in the auto industry since its birth more than a century ago? The dream "Consumers are saying, 'I want this', the government is pushing for it - the only thing remaining is for us to make electric vehicles," said Varun Dubey, the chief operating officer of Ola Electric, a subsidiary of the eponymous ride-hailing app. The firm recently announced a snazzy $320m scooter factory in India that plans to make 10 million electric two-wheelers every year - about 15% of the world's production. "Nobody is debating whether we should move towards clean air. The question is how do we get there?," Mr Dubey said.
