https://gadgets.ndtv.com/internet/news/microsoft-most-valuable-company-world-apple-shares-fall-fiscal-q4-2021-results-2593307 Apple lost its crown as the world's most valuable public company to Microsoft on Friday, as the iPhone maker's shares fell about 2 percent. Apple took a $6 billion (roughly Rs. 44,940 crore) hit to its sales during the fiscal fourth quarter due to persistent global supply chain problems, leading to a miss on Wall Street expectations. Top boss Tim Cook said the impact will be even worse in the current holiday sales quarter. "Compared to less hardware focused FAANG peers, Apple is also a lot more exposed to supply chain disruption," said Sophie Lund-Yates, equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown. Microsoft to Work With US Community Colleges to Fill 250,000 Cyber Jobs Apple's shares dropped 1.8 percent to end the session at $149.80 (roughly Rs. 11,200), giving the company a market capitalization of $2.48 trillion (roughly Rs. 1,85,75,202 crore). By contrast, shares of Windows software maker Microsoft rose 2.2 percent to a record high of $331.62 (roughly Rs. 24,800), ending the session with a market capitalization of $2.49 trillion (roughly Rs. 1,86,49,489 crore). Apple, which has repurchased $421.7 billion (roughly Rs. 31,53,186 crore) worth of shares over the years, had announced a massive $90 billion (roughly Rs. 6,74,077 crore) share buyback in April. As a result, the outstanding stock pool keeps shrinking, and the company ended its fiscal fourth quarter with 16.4 billion shares. Microsoft's stock has surged 49 percent this year, with pandemic-induced demand for its cloud-based services driving sales. Shares of Apple have climbed 13 percent so far this year. Xiaomi Leads Indian Smartphone Market in Q3, Apple Fastest Growing Brand: Counterpoint Apple's stock market value overtook Microsoft's in 2010 as the iPhone made it the world's premier consumer technology company. The companies have taken turns as Wall Street's most valuable business in recent years, with Apple holding the title since mid-2020. Analysts say Apple has managed the supply chain issue well, but with Cook warning of more pressure, the door is open to a hit to its performance as the holiday season kicks in. In contrast, Microsoft on Tuesday forecast a strong end to the calendar year. But it also warned that supply-chain woes will continue to dog key units, such as those producing its Surface laptops and Xbox gaming consoles.

https://www.pcgamer.com/looks-like-fortnite-china-is-shutting-down/ The limited run of Fortnite in China is ending in November, according to the official Chinese site. Epic's smash hit is a very different game in China, as it's not only free to play but has some mechanical and gameplay differences, and premium currency is unlocked by playing rather than with real money. It's not clear how successful Fortnite was in China, but it's over now: Nobody will be able to register and download the game after November 1st, and the servers will shut down. Fortnite's availability was billed as a test, and is referenced as such in the shutdown announcement. The version of Fortnite available in China was quite different from the rest of the world. Matches were shorter, allowing for multiple players to claim a Victory Royale as long as they stayed alive. Other mechanics were changed to make the game more casual, like a separate health bar for damage from the storm. The shutdown announcement was circulated widely by Twitter user arkheops, who posted a screencap of the announcement run through translation software. https://gadgets.ndtv.com/internet/news/tencent-sumo-deal-us-national-security-probe-2593659 A US national security panel is investigating Tencent Holdings' $1.27 billion (roughly Rs. 9,518 crore) takeover of Sumo Group, the British videogame maker said on Friday, in a possible setback to the Chinese internet giant. Sumo, which has studios in the United States and four other countries, said Tencent had agreed to offer undertakings to gain approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), which assesses deals to ensure they do not hurt national security. The secretive task force, which is also looking into the US sale of video-sharing app TikTok, had tightened its scrutiny of Chinese deals under former President Donald Trump. Tencent had made a deal with Sumo in July, just days after China's market regulator blocked its plans to merge videogame streaming sites, Huya and DouYu, on antitrust grounds. Sumo and Tencent are engaging with the CFIUS to get clearance for the acquisition before the end of the year, the British firm said on Friday. Sheffield-based Sumo's clients and partners include Microsoft's XBOX game studios, Apple and Alphabet's Google, among others. The deal would bring together Sumo's racing and snooker games with Tencent's more high-profile range of games that includes the mobile version of "Call of Duty".

https://www.techradar.com/news/nvidia-rtx-3080-ti-gpu-could-be-coming-to-supercharge-gaming-laptops Nvidia could be readying an RTX 3080 Ti laptop graphics card if the rumor mill is to be believed. Speculation about higher-end notebook GPUs from Nvidia has been flying around for quite some time now, although previous leaks from a few months or so back pointed to the possibility of an RTX 3080 Super model (plus 3070 Super for that matter). This fresh spillage has pinned the Ti label, rather than Super branding, on the purportedly incoming RTX 3080 variant, with the theory being that this product will be based on Nvidia’s GA103 GPU (GN20-E8), as noted in a tweet from Matthew Smith which VideoCardz spotted (Smith is the keeper of TechPowerUp’s GPU database). The leak, as VideoCardz explains, actually originates from somebody posting on a PCI Device ID database with the handle ‘Faintsnow’ who is presumed to work for a graphics card maker. Faintsnow added the details of the GPU and confirmed that it’ll be the ‘GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU’ when questioned on what Nvidia’s name for this graphics solution would be. No other details are provided here, so the info imparted is admittedly thin on the ground. Analysis: Some kind of high-end laptop GPU inbound for early 2022? Obviously, we need to keep a healthy sense of skepticism about the veracity of this, as that original source is a murky one, really. That said, this is a rumor which has been kicking around for a while, and it does seem a likely move for Nvidia to release a laptop GPU with more oomph in the near-ish future – previously the grapevine has held that this mobile graphics card (or cards) could be unveiled early in 2022. Meaning we might be looking at a CES launch in January 2022, and if that is the case, we’d expect to be hearing a lot more from the rumor mill on this GPU in short order. There has been some controversy in the past about whether the supposed RTX 3080 Ti or Super might step up from the GA104 employed in the notebook RTX 3080 card to use the GA103 as indicated here, because as you may recall regular rumor peddler Kopite7kimi – who first spilled the goods on the GA103 laptop chip – said at one point that it was quite likely canceled. Kopite7kimi chimed in with this latest leak, as well, speculating that maybe this new discovery could even be an RTX 3090 mobile, not a 3080 Ti. On the naming front, it should be noted that Nvidia has never used the Ti suffix for a mobile GPU, so there’s that to bear in mind too when it comes to the name guessing game. Whatever it ends up being called, the possibility that Nvidia still has a more powerful high-end laptop GPU in the wings, waiting to step up and become the new flagship for Ampere in gaming notebooks, is definitely still alive.

https://www.pcgamer.com/amds-next-gen-flagship-gpu-is-said-to-have-made-one-big-step-towards-launch/ Even though the Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards only recently hit store shelves (for a brief moment), it's never too early to talk about what's next. Well-known AMD leaker, greymon55 tweeted out (thanks videocardz) today that the next-generation flagship Navi 31 GPU has been taped out. The tape out process means that the design of the card has been finished, a big important step before its sent out to manufacturing. Best CPU for gaming: the top chips from Intel and AMD Best graphics card: your perfect pixel-pusher awaits Best SSD for gaming: get into the game ahead of the rest Though before that there's still the chip testing phase, and since Navi 31 is rumored to be the first consumer MCM (multi-chip module) design for a gaming GPU, meaning it will feature two GPUdies, that could take some time. In theory, this should mean AMD can drastically increase core counts for its next-gen graphics cards, but that will depend on making both chips appear as one to your PC, software, and games. No easy task. The leaker also said that chip's being manufactured are using TSMC N5 and N6 process technology. AMD Navi 31 will use the RDNA 3 architecture and should be destined for the Radeon RX 7000-series cards (if the typical naming conventions hold up) that are expected to be released in late 2022. AMD has not commented or released any details regarding the new GPUs' technological roadmap, though, so we're largely going on guesswork and leaks today.

https://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-warzones-pacific-map-and-new-anti-cheat-are-coming-in-december/ After a year and a half of sprinting, driving, and gliding across two different versions of Verdansk, Call of Duty: Warzone's next map, Caldera, is finally on the way. The WW2-themed map based on the Pacific theater is releasing alongside Warzone's new anti-cheat tool, Ricochet, when Vanguard Season One begins on Dec. 2. Activision laid it all out in a new blog post, including a roadmap that shows everything coming to Warzone and Vanguard between Vanguard's release date of Nov. 5 and Season One's kickoff in December. Activision is describing the month as Vanguard's "pre-season". Vanguard players will get a throwback map based on Call of Duty 4's shipment while Warzone will get an "Operation Flashback" mode that'll let them say goodbye to Verdansk (maybe forever?) and earn some exclusive rewards for participating. Warzone will also get a second, possibly smaller event on Nov. 24 called "Secrets of the Pacific", which sounds like an introductory teaser to the Caldera map a few weeks before it drops. call of duty vanguard roadmap (Image credit: Activision) "This limited-time event developed by Beenox will grant you vital information on Caldera and its various points of interest prior to its launch in December, but only if you complete challenges across Vanguard and Warzone," reads the blog post. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-59101193 Prime Minister Boris Johnson has acknowledged "turbulence" in the UK's relationship with France as the row over fishing rights escalates. After dozens of French boats were denied post-Brexit fishing licences for UK and Jersey waters, France threatened to block ports to British vessels. But Mr Johnson told the BBC the things that united the UK and France were more important than their divisions. The French president said the row was a test of the UK's global credibility. France has said it will take "targeted measures" against the UK if the row over fishing licences is not resolved by Tuesday. Brexit Minister David Frost said the government was "actively considering" launching a legal process against France under the Brexit agreement, as a result of the "threats" from France. Lord Frost described language used by French Prime Minister Jean Castex as "clearly very troubling and very problematic" in the context of ongoing negotiations "trying to solve many highly sensitive issues, including on the Northern Ireland Protocol". His comments followed the emergence of a letter by Mr Castex, seen by the BBC, which said the EU must demonstrate in this dispute that there was "more damage to leaving the EU than remaining there". Writing on Twitter, Mr Frost said: "We will continue to talk constructively to try to resolve all the differences between us, and we urge the EU and France to step back from rhetoric and actions that make this more difficult." Pressed on how the UK would respond to the threats as the G20 group of major economies met, Mr Johnson told the BBC: "We're going to get on and do the things that matter to both of us and make sure that we work together on tackling the big issues that face the world." Referring to Mr Castex's letter, he acknowledged that "there's some turbulence in the relationship", What are the rules on fishing after Brexit? Who really owns UK fishing rights? "If one of our partners decides to breach the Trade and Cooperation Agreement that we struck, that's a matter that we have to pursue," Mr Johnson said. The UK government suggested on Friday that France's threatened measures - such as blocking ports to UK boats, increasing checks on UK goods, boats and trucks, and even cutting energy supplies - would be a breach of the post-Brexit trade deal with the EU. The prime minister also suggested the UK was concerned France may be "already in breach" of the deal. Mr Johnson raised his concerns with European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen over the "rhetoric from the French government" at a meeting at the G20 summit, the prime minister's office said. In a statement, a spokesman added: "The prime minister stressed that the French threats are completely unjustified and do not appear to be compatible with the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement or wider international law." Mr Macron and Mr Johnson are expected to have an informal meeting on the margins of the G20 summit in Rome on Sunday. But asked if he felt the French behaviour was unacceptable, Mr Johnson told the BBC the priority for the UK and France was making progress on tackling climate change in talks at the G20 summit and at COP26 in Glasgow. Speaking from the Colosseum in Rome, he invoked the collapse of the Roman Empire as he said the world was "absolutely conniving in our decline and fall". "What we want to do is to get the world to focus on the threat that humanity faces," he said.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-59101299 The whole country wishes the Queen well, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said, after she was advised by doctors to rest for two more weeks. On Friday, Buckingham Palace announced the monarch, 95, would not undertake official visits for a fortnight. It said she would continue with some light, desk-based duties and it was her "firm intention" to attend Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph on 14 November. The prime minister said "the important thing" was the Queen getting some rest. "I spoke to her Majesty, as I do every week, this week and she's on very good form," Mr Johnson said. "She's just got to follow the advice of her doctors and get some rest and I think that's the important thing. "The whole country wishes her well." Who gives the Queen medical advice? Queen will miss COP26 climate summit In pictures: The Queen's busy October The Queen underwent preliminary medical checks in hospital on 20 October after cancelling a visit to Northern Ireland, having "reluctantly" accepted medical advice to rest for a few days. Her stay at London's King Edward VII's Hospital was her first overnight hospital stay in eight years. Although she resumed public engagements earlier this week, it was announced on Wednesday the Queen would not attend the COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow as previously planned. Her planned address to delegates attending COP26 was recorded on Friday afternoon and will be played via video at the event. Other royals will still attend the summit. 'Fatigue, not illness' Friday's statement from Buckingham Palace said the Queen would continue to hold "virtual audiences" during the fortnight of rest, but said the monarch would not attend any official visits, including the Festival of Remembrance, held at the Royal Albert Hall on the evening before the Remembrance Sunday service. Royal correspondent Johnny Dymond said "fatigue, not illness" seemed to be the issue - with the message from Palace officials stressing the two weeks' rest was "a sensible precaution" for the 95-year-old. The Queen's absolute determination to attend the Remembrance Sunday service in Whitehall was "notable", he added. The Queen at Westminster Abbey IMAGE SOURCE,AFP/GETTY Image caption,The Queen was seen using a walking stick at a Westminster Abbey service recently The sovereign had maintained a typically busy schedule this month, including hosting a Global Investment Summit at Windsor Castle on 19 October - but was recently seen using a walking stick at a Westminster Abbey service, the first time she has done so at a major event. Robert Hardman, author of Queen of the World, described the recent cancellations as a "wake-up call that the Queen is 95". "She has been so dependable over the years, there has been this tendency just to assume she will keep turning up... and when she's not there it comes as a bit of a jolt," Mr Hardman told Radio 4's Today programme, He added the Remembrance service "was one of the absolute central days in the Queen's calendar", having attended the Cenotaph more than anybody in its history. "It's absolutely sacred to her. We all fervently hope that we are going to see her on her balcony," he added.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-59097703 US wildlife researchers have discovered that two California condors, a critically endangered bird, gave birth without any male genetic DNA. The discovery that condors are capable of virgin births - formally called parthenogenesis or asexual reproduction - surprised scientists. Virgin births have been recorded in other bird species, as well as lizards, snakes, sharks, rays and other fish. Only about 500 California condors remain in the US south-west and Mexico. In the 1980s, fewer than two dozen birds remained in the wild, but conservation efforts have boosted their numbers in recent years. The peer-reviewed findings from San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance were published this week in the American Genetic Association's Journal of Heredity. The researchers describe how routine genetic screenings of captive birds led to the discovery that two male chicks hatched in 2001 and 2009 were related to their mothers and had not inherited DNA from any father bird. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites. View original tweet on Twitter Presentational white space All 467 male condors in the breeding pool were tested. What makes the case even more rare is that it is the first time that any bird species has had a virgin birth when males were present for breeding. Parthenogenesis is an extremely rare event, but has been recorded in other species before. It happens when a cell in a female behaves like a sperm and fuses with an egg. It normally occurs in animal po[CENSORED]tions that have few or no breeding males. "This is truly an amazing discovery," Oliver Ryder, the study's co-author and director of conservation genetics at San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, said in a statement. "We were not exactly looking for evidence of parthenogenesis, it just hit us in the face. We only confirmed it because of the normal genetic studies we do to prove parentage." Unfortunately, both of the chicks have since died - one at age two in 2003 and the other in 2017 when it was seven. Both mother condors previously had chicks that were bred in the traditional way. One had 11 chicks, while the other, who had been paired with a male for 20 years, had 23 chicks. She reproduced twice more after the virgin birth.

https://www.techradar.com/news/microsoft-powertoys-are-getting-a-major-windows-11-update Now that Windows 11 has been released, Microsoft has updated PowerToys with new UI changes so that it set of utilities now feature the same design as the latest version of its operating system. First introduced with Windows 95 and then brought back for Windows 10 two years ago, PowerToys are a set of tools that are designed to make it more convenient to use the software giant's operating system to its full potential. The modern version of PowerToys includes nine tools that allow Windows users to do things like rename multiple files at once, resize images, pick colors or open applications even faster using a quick launcher. Microsoft has also made it easier to start using PowerToys in Windows 11 as its utilities can now be downloaded and installed from both the Microsoft Store as well as GitHub. With the release of PowerToys 0.49, the company has redesigned the settings menu in PowerRename which is a utility used to rename files faster and in bulk. It now features a new look to match the design of Windows 11. The edges of PowerRename's windows have been rounded and they are also more transparent. RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... Video Conference Mute and Find My Mouse In addition to the new UI changes, Microsoft has also rolled out two new features with the release of version 0.49 of PowerToys. Video Conference Mute is a new new feature that allows users to mute their microphone or disable their webcam globally across both Windows 10 and Windows 11. It can be binded to a keyboard shortcut and there is even a toolbar that appears when your webcam or microphone are being used. While Microsoft initially planned to launch Windows 11 with its own universal microphone mute button, the feature didn't make it into the final release of the operating system though it should be arriving in a later update. For now, power users can leverage Video Conference Mute to achieve the same outcome. Finally, Microsoft has added a new feature called Find My Mouse to PowerToys. This feature makes it easier to find your mouse when working on multiple displays, an ultrawide monitor or a business monitor with a higher resolution. Simply double tapping the left CTRL key will dim your screen and highlight your mouse cursor with a white circle to make it much easier to find. Microsoft has updated PowerToys a number of times over the past few years and if these new features are any indication, it's likely that the company will continue to bring new utilities to its operating system so that power users can make the most out of Windows 11. https://www.pcgamer.com/intel-claims-the-core-i9-12900k-is-the-worlds-best-gaming-processor-but-has-to-retest-ryzen/ Intel claims its upcoming Alder Lake processor, the Core i9 12900K, has what it takes to claim the "world's best gaming processor" title. It's even provided graphs to prove it. Though, these do come with one big caveat today: Intel hasn't yet tested AMD's Ryzen 9 5950X on Windows 11 post-performance patch. The chip in question is the best of the 12th Gen lot, the Core i9 12900K. This lays claim to eight Performance Cores and eight Efficient Cores, which totals 24 threads once HyperThreading is factored in (those E-cores don't offer up HyperThreading). It's also capable of reaching a maximum Turbo clock of 5.2GHz. That's going up against AMD's excellent Ryzen 9 5950X, which is a 16-core, 32-thread processor built on the Zen 3 architecture. And Intel says it has the lead when it comes to gaming, and has shared with us a handful of 1080p gaming benchmarks to prove it, which you can check out below. That said, it's important as ever not to rely too heavily on benchmark disclosures such as this, which come ahead of independent testing. RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... The biggest caveat to these performance figures is that Intel has not tested the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X system on Windows 11 with a recent patch, which caused most AMD CPUs to "exhibit reduced performance in certain applications when running Windows 11." A pretty big deal, then. Luckily, fixes for two of the performance issues are now available, and "AMD has verified that the performance and behavior of compatible AMD processors are working as intended on Windows 11 subsequent to the installation of these updates." Intel says it is still confident in its claim, despite not having tested AMD's system on Windows 11 at its full potential, and that it will still retain the gaming crown even once it has. Perhaps in fewer games, though, by the looks of how close it is in some of its selected benchmarks. "We realise there's going to be a Windows 11 software update coming soon," Kennedy says during the pre-recorded briefing. "Once that software is released, we're going to remeasure all the games, including the esport titles in our gaming test suite, and we're going to nominate our gaming performance leadership based on that new run. Once we have that data, we promise we'll share all of our findings with you, but that said, we are confident that even with the upcoming patch, we stand behind our claim." Intel also says the Core i9 12900K would outperform the competition without the help of DDR5, which is a feather in the Alder Lake generation's cap that so far AMD hasn't matched. In terms of both productivity and content creation, Intel believes it's onto a winner with Alder Lake and the 12900K. You can check those benchmarks out in the gallery above. We won't have to wait long to find out where the chips fall this generation, anyways. From November 4 we can say with confidence whether Intel's hybrid approach will win over AMD's clever chiplets.

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/league-of-legends-gets-a-new-music-video-featuring-imagine-dragons-for-its-upcoming-tv-series/ Music has always been a big part of Riot Games and League of Legends, so it's not all that surprising that the studio is releasing an all-new music video for its upcoming show, Arcane. The Netflix series (which premieres on November 6), is a kind of origin story for iconic League of Legends' champions like Vi and Jinx as they're torn apart by the wider conflict erupting between the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun—one a scientific utopia, and the other a biohazard wasteland. Yesterday Riot unveiled the title track for Arcane, called Enemy by Imagine Dragons, with its own bespoke music video. It's awesome. I'm not a huge Imagine Dragons fan, but I dig the antagonistic vibe of the music and the surprise rap interlude performed by JID. Rather than cutting up clips from the show and splicing them with footage of Imagine Dragons in real life, the band is fully animated as if they are characters in Arcane. It's pretty hard to overstate how gorgeous this animation is, too. I've been saying that since Arcane was first announced in 2019, but it looks so dang pretty here. Riot's animated trailers have set a high benchmark for years, but with Arcane it feels like the studio is settling into a distinct, painterly aesthetic that's unlike anything I've seen from other animation studios. Rather than focusing on Imagine Dragons—like you'd normally expect in a music video—the band takes a backseat to Vi and Jinx, sister-orphans growing up on the mean streets of Zaun. Scenes of Jinx and her friends running from police or practicing street fighting play up the contrast between Jinx as a kid and the unhinged terrorist she becomes—which mirrors the overarching story of Arcane. If you haven't been following Arcane, you should check out the trailer. Netflix has been on a good winning streak with most of its serialized adaptations of games, and combined with Riot's knack for killer music and stylistic animation, I think Arcane looks amazing.
