  2. AMD's latest Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver launched yesterday with claims of OpenGL performance improvements up to 92%. AMD achieved an impressive figure on the company's refreshed Radeon RX 6000-series graphics cards. (The mileage will vary on other less powerful Radeon graphics cards.) YouTuber 54 FPS(opens in new tab) has tested the Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver on the prominent Radeon RX 580 in Minecraft, and the results were nothing less than spectacular. It's important to note that this is the vanilla Minecraft and not the Microsoft Store version with ray tracing. The driver does not affect the latter. In the first test, the Radeon RX 580 delivered an average framerate of 302 FPS with a low 1% of 71 FPS on the previous Adrenalin Edition 22.6.1 driver. With the new driver, the Polaris-powered graphics card pushed the average framerate up to 547 FPS and a low 1% of 32 FPS. So we're looking at a whopping 81% improvement in average framerates. The Radeon RX 580 finished the second test with an average framerate of 254 FPS and a low 1% of 60 FPS on the old driver. With the Adrenalin Edition 22.6.1 driver, it managed an average framerate of 454 FPS and a low 1% of 61 FPS. Performance increased by 79%. The OpenGL performance boost isn't strictly in games, either. Synthetic benchmarks that leverage OpenGL, such as Unigine Heaven, also benefit from the Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver. YouTuber Cary Golomb(opens in new tab) tested Unigine Heaven with AMD's Ryzen 7 6800U mobile APU, which wields the Radeon 680M iGPU. At 10W, the APU delivered 12% higher scores. The performance uplift scaled with the power limit. Increasing the TDP to 15W and 20W raised the scores by 19% and 21%, respectively. Emulation fans will also be delighted with the Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver. Golomb's benchmarks(opens in new tab) in Ryujinx, a Nintendo Switch emulator, showed double the performance. AMD released the Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver yesterday along with the company's Noise Suppression technology and other goodies. You can download it directly from AMD's website. "Tom's Hardware"

  3. The Forza Horizon series has already crossed over with numerous franchises, from the building blocks of Lego to the family in Fast and The Furious, but it's the one with Hot Wheels and Forza Horizon 3 that sticks out the most when looking back. The combination of Horizon's blisteringly fast cars and the creativity of Hot Wheels twisty tracks was an unsurprising hit, making its return in Forza Horizon 5 an anticipated one. It's an expansion that manages to deliver the same thrill as before, with new track types and a much larger map, but also a structure to progression hampers the pacing. The orange highways of this new expansion are strewn across the sky over Mexico, creating a racing paradise nestled in the clouds just waiting to be torn through. The map is larger than the one previously offered in Forza Horizon 3, featuring three biomes that introduce different weather conditions depending on where you are. They're also a big reason why this new playground is immediately engrossing--the introduction into the map has you speeding through each part of it while taking in its best sights, from dropping down almost vertically into an active volcano inside a snowy mountain, to sliding down water-laden chutes in a thick jungle. The recognizable Hot Wheels track pieces that let you navigate these areas are beautifully contrasted against the natural beauty around them, making the entire space feel like a daydream come to life. The plastic pieces of the raceway are also more varied this time around, which does accentuate the playful nature of the entire expansion. Magnetic strips suck you down onto the track, letting you complete parts of a race upside-down or creating intricate loops where maintaining speed is paramount. Others are laden with thick layers of ice, making navigating even some of the widest corners a satisfying challenge as you struggle to maintain grip. The most exhilarating are stretches of road with giant overhead fans, each of which boost your speed to new heights not possible to reach in the main portion of Forza Horizon 5. It's a thrill to be flung around corners at these ridiculous speeds, feeling like you're barely hanging on when braving them with some of the fastest cars in the game. Your progression through this new map is dictated by a stricter format than you might expect from the Horizon series, which usually lets you achieve anything you want in any direction. You increase your rank by collecting medals, which are awarded for participating in races, sprints, and smaller contextual events such as speed traps, drift zones, and popping floating balloons around the map. Several missions also lump many of these activities together, rewarding you with more medals for completing a collection of races or completing small challenges around the map with your current class of cars. The structure makes sense in the context of slowly introducing you to faster and faster cars as you come to grips with the new challenges that this expansion offers, but it does alter the pace to one that feels more like you're checking things off a list rather than progressing through doing the types of activities you enjoy. This is especially true when considering how few events there are at each new driving rank that you unlock, with you needing to do almost everything in order to progress and unlock new events. I loved doing races and cinematic showcase events, but I wasn't as thrilled with the downtime I was forced to take while hunting down speed traps in order to unlock more of what I wanted. Tossed in with the standard racing events is a new five-part story-driven series that acts as a deep dive into the Hot Wheels franchise while taking some of its most iconic vehicles (10 of which are included in the expansion) out for a spin. This series mimics the structure of the one centered around the Volkswagen Beetle in the main campaign of Forza Horizon 5, starting at the origin of Hot Wheels and charting its meteoric rise over the years as the series went from a simple children's toy to prized collectible car series. While the information is certainly interesting if you're unfamiliar with it, the delivery comes off as less sincere and more advertorial in quite a few spots. It was easier to view the VW Beetle through the lens of its history in Mexican car culture than it is to listen to a ramble of factoids delivered by a character who proudly exclaims to have memorized it all by the age of six, which makes the entire series quite uneven. Thankfully, most of the joy you're likely to squeeze out of this return to Hot Wheels is in the high-octane racing taking place in the skies, and it's during these moments where it's a bit easier to forget about its unfortunate shortcomings. The expanded map and diverse geographic makeup is a joy to explore, as is coming to grips with all the new pieces of plastic track surfaces that keep otherwise routine races from turning stale. It's disappointing that this energy couldn't be entirely converted over to the expansion's love letter to the Hot Wheels franchise, and it's annoying to be routinely reminded of all the other types of events you need to complete in order to unlock some of the best new vehicles, but it's still a detour worth taking if you've been itching for another fix of Forza Horizon fun. 4. Madden 23 ratings are an annual point of debate for virtual football fans. Who got the bump up they deserve? Who is still criminally underrated? Which team is set to be the go-to in online head-to-head (H2H)? The full Madden 23 ratings have now been revealed, and we've pieced it all together for you below. As longtime fans know, these ratings are subject to change throughout the NFL season, so ratings aren't set in stone when they're first announced. This applies to the 99 Club as well, as those special inductees can still rise and fall as the season goes on. In this guide, we'll be going over some predictions for the individual ratings, full team ratings, as well as a rundown of every player that will start the season in the 99 Club. The best players at each position have been revealed, so use our table of contents to quickly find the position you're looking for. From elite QBs and WRs to the biggest playmakers on defense, here are the Madden 23 ratings for all positions, followed by the exclusive 99 Club for Madden 23. Madden 23 Best QBs From the unretired Tom Brady to young upstarts like Joe Burrow, how does your teams signal-caller stack up to the rest of the league? Here are your Madden 23 QB ratings. Madden 23 - Best RBs Does Derrick Henry deserve his place at the top after an injury-plagued season? Is the Madden team in too deep with Christian McCaffrey? Here are your Madden 23 RB ratings. Madden 23 - Best WRs We hear it all the time these days--"It's a passing league"--so you're going to want to compare the league's top wideouts to see who you want to play as in Madden. Here are your Madden 23 WR ratings. Madden 23 Best TEs Elite tight ends are a surprisingly rare breed these days, which means the gap between good and great tight ends has never been wider. You'll want to play with these players in H2H, or pursue them in MUT and Franchise. Here are your Madden 23 TE ratings. Madden 23 - Best players on defense Defense does still win championships, just ask Aaron Donald. With the game's top corners, edge rushers, and more now revealed, we're able to break down that entire side of the field all in one spot. Check out this year's Madden 23 defensive player ratings. Madden 23 - Best teams In Madden 23, the 32 franchises are separated by 18 points overall (OVR), which doesn't sound like much, but in practice, the delta between contenders and pretenders can reveal itself on any play in any game. If you're curious where this year's teams land, check out our guide on the best Madden 23 teams at launch. 99 Club Trent Williams - OT Trent Williams' spot in the 99 Club has already been confirmed, as the 49ers offensive lineman received word he would become a member earlier this summer. This is a historic accomplishment, as Williams is the first offensive lineman to receive the honors. It seems unlikely Williams would ever drop out of the club, as his play over the past few seasons has been arguably the best for his position. Davante Adams - WR Adams was the first official reveal for the 99 Club in Madden 23. This is Adams' second consecutive year in the club, but this year he's on a new team. Even with his move from Green Bay to Las Vegas, Adams should still be able to continue his production from last season which included over 1,500 yards and 11 TDs. While having Aaron Rodgers as your quarterback will always help a receiver, Adams should get plenty of looks from new QB Derek Carr. "GameSPot"

  12. One of the world's most po[CENSORED]r diagnostics and reporting software, AIDA64, has just received a significant update across its suite of products. The newly released v6.75 of the software brings support for AMD's upcoming Zen 4 processors and the AM5 motherboards they'll slot into. It's not all AMD though, as support for Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX 4090 has also been added. These additions bring support for some of the year's likely biggest hardware releases, and show just how closer these bits of hardware loom. Besides improved support for AMD's Zen 4 - the company's most important CPU release from the past years - AIDA64 v6.75 adds preliminary 64-bit multi-threaded AVX-512 and AVX2 optimized benchmarks for the architecture - a feature Intel dropped with the release of Alder Lake and its x86 take on Arm's Big.Little architecture. The release also adds detailed chipset information for the integrated memory controller of the new AMD processors. Sadly for us all, there aren't that many details that can be gleaned from the added support for Nvidia's upcoming RTX 4090, which has been talked about as offering a 30% performance improvement over the RTX 3090 Ti. Do take note that all currently circulating information is nothing but alleged leaks and salted rumors, so adjust your expectations accordingly. That said, the addition of multi-threaded OpenCL GPGPU benchmarks, graphics processor, OpenGL and GPGPU details, temperature and cooling fan monitoring for this particular graphics card is a clear signal of its approaching release. Besides support for Nvidia's next crown jewel of a GPU, the latest version of AIDA64 extends GPU diagnostics support for a plethora of graphics card across both AMD and Nvidia. On the AMD side, FinalWire lists the AMD Radeon 6700, Radeon Pro W6600, Radeon RX 6650 XT, Radeon RX 6750 XT, Radeon RX 6950 XT and the AMD Rembrandt SoC. Chinese discrete GPUs also get some love - specifically the Glenfly Arise, which on paper should be roughly equivalent to an Nvidia GTX 1630. Finally, on the Nvidia camp, we're looking at improved support for the GeForce GTX 1630, GeForce MX570 A, GeForce RTX 3050 OEM, GeForce RTX 4090, H100 96GB, RTX A500 Laptop, RTX A1000 Laptop, RTX A2000 8GB Laptop, RTX A3000 12GB Laptop, RTX A4500 Laptop, RTX A5500 Laptop, T550 Laptop. 13. When AMD and its partners started to talk about the company's next-generation desktop platform with its AM5 socket several quarters ago, many observers expected the CPU developer to maintain the maximum thermal design power for its processors at current levels. However, later on, it transpired that at least some of AMD's AM5 CPUs would have a TDP of up to 170W, a significant increase over the current 105W. As it turns out, all AMD Ryzen 9 7000-series CPUs will have a TDP of 170W. AMD's next-generation Ryzen 7000-series 'Raphael' processors based on the Zen 4 microarchitecture will come in different configurations with different TDP ranges. According to the Gigabyte leak, entry-level SKUs will maintain a thermal design power (TDP) of 65W and a package power tracking (PPT) limit of 88W. Meanwhile, all high-end Ryzen 9 7000-series offerings will feature a TDP of 170W and a PPT of 230W, according to hardware leaker @Kopite7kimi. "All [Ryzen] R9 [7000-series] SKUs with a normal voltage are base on 170W TDP," he tweeted. Keeping in mind that AMD's Ryzen 9 processors are positioned for high-end gaming desktops and entry-level workstations, they are used by people who are quite used to expensive motherboards, high-performance air and all-in-one liquid cooling systems. So, increasing TDP and PPT of these processors to get higher performance is apt since these audiences value performance the most. Based on the Gigabyte leak from last year, AMD also plans AM5 CPUs with 45W, 65W, 95W, 105W, and 125W TDPs. It remains to be seen which SKUs will be available at launch, but the company will eventually offer a range of AM5 microprocessors based on its Zen 4 microarchitecture that will fit satisfy the needs of price-conscious mainstream and performance-demanding users. The only question is when these models will become available and what they will offer. In general, AMD and Intel are gradually increasing the TDPs of their CPUs in a bid to offer higher performance as competition between these manufacturers heats up. AMD and Nvidia do the same with graphics cards, so the overall power consumption of desktop PCs is ever-increasing. "Tom's Hardware"

  14. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak sees your intrepid hunter leave Kamura Village behind to venture across the sea to the outpost of Elgado. It functions almost like a brand new game, introducing a new HUB and cast of characters, locales to explore, monsters to fight, and weapons and armor to craft from their parts. Yet there's very little about Sunbreak that feels truly new or surprising. More Monster Hunter is never a bad thing, and Sunbreak is an excellent expansion with some smart additions that reinforce just how good Rise already is, but it's difficult not to feel a little disappointed by its formulaic nature. For starters, the story is typically boilerplate, revolving around a brand-new threat that's making all of the monsters overly aggressive. It's as predictable and easy to ignore as any previous Monster Hunter tale, although the new cast of characters are at least more defined and interesting than those found in Rise, partly because you spend a lot more time with them. New Follower Quests give you a chance to embark on hunts in the company of various non-player characters, allowing their personalities to surface more than the series usually allows. These are single-player-only quests, but the intricacy of your allies' artificial intelligence makes them almost indistinguishable from multiplayer hunts. Your companions fight like other players, using lifepowder at opportune times, laying down traps, drawing the monster's attention for prolonged periods, and sometimes disappearing before emerging on the back of another reluctant beast. You'll notice them when they're actively helping you, and they're smart enough not to frustrate you by doing something boneheaded. These quests might be optional, but each one rewards you with unique items, and they make it much more enjoyable to grind for monster parts on your own. Having a helping hand is also greatly appreciated since Sunbreak rips the training wheels off from the get-go. Rise was by no means an easy game, but its approachability made for a more gentle introduction to the Monster Hunter franchise, saving the real threats for its post-campaign hunts. In order to access Sunbreak, you first need to complete the Hunter Rank 7 quests in Rise, thus ensuring that you're ready to tackle its new challenges. Once you begin the expansion and arrive in Elgado, you're quickly promoted to Master Rank and sent off to defeat some particularly tough foes--albeit ones you've mostly fought before. It makes sense to throw some familiar foes your way at the beginning, just in case you're returning to the game after a number of months, but Sunbreak falls into the trap of dragging this process out for far too long. Your first hunt is against a variant of the Hermitaur, a large crab-like enemy that has appeared in the series numerous times before. It has some new moves, and it's a new encounter for Rise, but for long-time players, it's not the most exciting way to open an expansion. There are other subspecies of different Rise monsters sprinkled throughout, such as the Blood Orange Bishaten, which trades the poisonous persimmons of Rise's normal Bishaten for explosive pinecones. For the most part, though, you'll be hunting a familiar rogue's gallery with slightly expanded movesets. This is par for the course when it comes to Monster Hunter's endgame--which Master Rank usually represents--but considering this is a paid expansion, it would've been nice if it were frontloaded with a few new monsters to avoid the feeling that you're simply revisiting well-trodden ground. As it is, the first time you'll face off against a new threat isn't until a dozen or so hours into Sunbreak, when you reach Master Rank 3. One change Sunbreak does introduce from the very beginning is the Switch Skill Swap. This lets you take two different Switch Skill loadouts into battle, letting you alternate between them on the fly. Doing so puts you into a bespoke animation that can also transition into a rangy dodge that's much more effective than your standard dodge, and being able to utilize double the number of Switch Skills adds more variety and dynamism to your offensive arsenal. Much like its new monsters, however, Sunbreak holds back on unlocking new Switch Skills until you reach Master Rank 4. While it can be frustrating that so many of this expansion's new additions are withheld for so long, they're almost worth the wait. The new monsters in particular are all fantastic additions that offer unique challenges, and they're just as fun to look at as they are to fight. While Rise's aesthetic was inspired by Feudal Japanese culture and folklore, Sunbreak is influenced by Western and European mythology. The Three Lords--an infamous trio of rampaging beasts--are the standout monsters and the ones that tap into this new influence, introducing nasties inspired by both werewolves and vampires. Lunagaron, for instance, is a formidable wolf-like monster that stalks the Kingdom on all fours. That is, until it transforms into its true form and stands up on its hind legs, cutting down hunters with its razor-sharp claws and ability to freeze the air. Malzeno, on the other hand, is a fearsome elder dragon that proves especially tricky because it can teleport around the battlefield. Some of its attacks also inflict the Bloodblight status effect, which drains your health and reduces the effectiveness of healing items. When you're in this state, attacking the beast will refill your health proportionate to the amount of damage you deal, adding a tinge of Bloodborne to these tense encounters with Malzeno. While you'll regularly revisit each of the locales from Rise throughout Sunbreak's campaign, the expansion does add two new biomes: Jungle and Citadel. If you've ever played Monster Hunter 2 before, you'll probably recognize the tropical island of Jungle with its palm trees and sandy beaches. It's been masterfully recreated here, making use of Rise's seamless maps and increased verticality to update the 16-year-old location. Citadel, on the other hand, is brand new, offering an eclectic mix of different environments for you to traverse in a single hunt. You can go from fighting in a murky, poisoned swamp to finishing the job on a frozen mountain peak, all against the backdrop of a crumbling castle. Both locales are denser than those in the base game, although every single map has been updated with new forms of endemic life to enhance the world's vivacity. New Wirebugs are focused on wyvern-riding, either making punisher attacks more lethal or increasing the drop rate when two monsters clash. You'll also find small critters known as Starburst Bugs latched onto various surfaces. These little buggers will explode if a monster collides with them, giving you another way to inflict significant damage when riding on the back of a monster. The new Marionette Spider offers an alternative and much more satisfying tactic, though, letting you wrap your target in silk before yanking them full pelt into an explosion. These new forms of endemic life may only represent a small change, but much like the Switch Skill Swap, their impact becomes more apparent over time for how much they improve each hunt. Almost every other system in Sunbreak has been touched in a small yet meaningful way. Bunny Dango, the pre-fight meal you scorf down before embarking on a quest, now lets you alter the effectiveness of each Dango ability by changing the order in which you select them, adding some purposeful decision-making to the process. Traversal has also been improved by removing the requirement to perform a Wiredash before being able to wall run, which not only makes navigating each map much faster, but it also makes it easier to utilize their verticality. There are also new weapons and armor sets, Master Rank layered armor, decorations you can socket into your gear to activate various buffs, and so on. You can min-max your hunter to your heart's delight. Monster Hunter Rise represents the series at its very best, and the subtle improvements made by Sunbreak meaningfully improve upon its compelling gameplay loop, even if they're not apparent until a few hours in. The lack of fresh ideas is disappointing, and this feels more like the challenging endgame Rise was initially missing than an entirely new experience. The new and returning monsters are fantastic, though, as are the two new locales, and it's still relatively easy to lose yourself in Monster Hunter Rise's exhilarating world. Sunbreak might not be as substantial as some of the franchise's previous expansions, like Iceborne was for Monster Hunter World, but it improves upon Rise's foundations with another thrilling selection of hunts. It's just a shame most "GameSPot"

  15. Data mining suggests four classic villains from past Call of Duty games might show up in Vanguard and Warzone. Call of Duty: Vanguard received an update on July 26 to prepare for Season 4 Reloaded content to go live on July 27, and data miners are already digging through the game files. One leaker suggests that iconic Call of Duty villains will be introduced as playable operators for Vanguard and Warzone. Call of Duty data miner Reality, who has previously leaked several details about Modern Warfare 2 and Treyarch's next title via Warzone Mobile's game files, has tweeted claims of uncovering four classic characters within Vanguard's updated game files. New Operators in the Vanguard Update (unreleased, i assume) Raul Menendez Gabriel Rorke Khaled Al Asad Seraph Reality claims Vanguard will introduce Black Ops 2's Raul Menendez as a playable operator for Vanguard and Warzone. Menendez was a powerful drug lord and primary antagonist of the Black Ops 2 campaign. Gabriel T. Rorke, who was the main antagonist for Call of Duty: Ghosts, is also said to appear in the files. From the futuristic titles of Black Ops 3 and 4, He 'Seraph' Zhen-Zhen is another operator suggested to arrive in the Vanguard era. And lastly, Khaled Al-Asad was also reportedly found in the game files. Al-Asad makes the most sense for an upcoming operation bundle, as the antagonist was featured in both the original Modern Warfare and introduced as a secondary antagonist in Modern Warfare 2019's post-launch narrative. This makes the character a likely candidate for a future Modern Warfare 2 pre-order bonus. It's uncertain if or when these operators could show up, as all leaks must be taken with a grain of salt. So far, Activision has officially announced Terminator operator bundles for Vanguard and Warzone in Season 4 Reloaded. Al-Asad might not be a confirmed pre-order bonus, but here is everything announced for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's pre-orders. "GameSPot"

  17. President Joe Biden walks on the South Lawn prior to his departure from the White House on July 8, 2022, in Washington, DC A new CNN poll finds 75% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters want the party to nominate someone other than President Joe Biden in the 2024 election, a sharp increase from earlier this year. The poll comes as Biden's approval ratings remain low and most Americans are discontented with the state of the country and the economy. Inflation remains at record highs and a new report released Tuesday showed consumer confidence slipped for the third straight month. Twenty-four percent of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters said they want someone else because they don't think Biden can win in 2024, up from 18% in a poll conducted in January and February. Thirty-two percent feel that way because they don't want Biden to be reelected, up from 16% earlier this year. Twenty-five percent said they prefer Biden as the nominee, which is a steep drop from 45% in January/February. The poll shows a sharp downturn in enthusiasm for a 2024 reelection bid by the President. In January/February, 51% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters said they wanted someone other than Biden to be the Democratic nominee in 2024. The new poll shows 31% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters 45 years and older would prefer Biden to be the 2024 nominee. Among Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters under 45, just 18% prefer Biden as the 2024 nominee. The poll also showed a majority of Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters say they do not want former President Donald Trump to be their party's nominee in the 2024 presidential election. Fifty-five percent say they want someone else other than Trump to be the nominee, which is up from 49% in a January/February poll. The Biden administration is struggling to get a handle on inflation that has risen to 40-year highs and left millions of Americans struggling with high prices of essentials like food, housing and gas. The spike in prices comes in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic upending key global supply chains and Russia's war on Ukraine further affecting oil and food prices. Biden's approval rating remains in the 30s, according to a separate CNN poll released earlier this month, and Democrats are bracing for losses in this year's midterm elections. The CNN poll was released the same day as a new Granite State Poll from the University of New Hampshire that shows just 31% of New Hampshire Democrats want Biden to run for reelection and that 59 do not want him to run again. In June, 54% of New Hampshire Democrats said they did not want him to run again. This CNN poll was conducted July 22 to July 24 by SSRS online, using sample drawn from a probability-based panel. Results among the full random national sample of 1,002 adults have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.0 percentage points, for the subset of 362 Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters, the error margin is plus or minus 6.7 points. 18. A swimmer at a beach in Waikiki was injured this weekend after encountering an endangered Hawaiian monk seal with a young pup. Hawaii Marine Animal Response, a nonprofit conservation organization that helps monitor protected species, said their workers witnessed a swimmer come into contact with the mother monk seal known as Rocky on Sunday morning. The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said in a statement that the victim is a 60-year-old elementary school teacher from California. The woman received lacerations to her face, arm and back, the agency said. State officials said they would not recommend charges or fines for the woman and are not naming her because she requested anonymity. The Hawaii Marine Animal Response said in a statement that the seal gave birth to a pup about two weeks ago on Kaimana Beach in Waikiki, the same area where the swimmer was injured. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Hawaii Marine Animal Response have been watching the pair and warning people to stay away. It is against the law to touch, harass, injure or kill monk seals. People are told to stay at least 150 feet (46 meters) away from a mother seal and pup, though that recommendation is not a law. The shoreline where the seals live is roped off, and beachgoers are warned of the dangers of getting too close to the nursing mother. “We ask people to please follow the guidance and instructions provided by HMAR, NOAA, Ocean Safety, or other authorized parties on the beach,” the organization said in the statement. They said the swimmer was transported by EMS. "NBC"

  19. The electric startup showed a "production intent" prototype earlier this year, but now says again that it will need more funds to launch the car before the end of 2022. Faraday Future, a California-based electric-vehicle startup, has showed a prototype version of its FF 91, which was built at its plant in Hanford, California. The company says production of the car will start in the third quarter of this year, but it's worth noting that the company has missed claimed production dates more than once in the past five years. Faraday Future has had a tumultuous history, including its founder stepping down and declaring personal bankruptcy in 2019. UPDATE 7/26/22: Faraday Future has yet again delayed production of the FF 91, revealing in a regulatory filing that it will need more cash in order to launch the car in 2022 as intended. The company is aiming to raise around $325 million in capital in order to continue operations through the end of the year. Does the name Faraday Future ring a bell? In 2017, the Los Angeles-based electric startup revealed the FF 91 crossover at the Consumer Electronics Show and claimed production would begin in 2018. Five years later, the FF 91 has yet to hit public roads, sidelined while Faraday Future has battled financial issues. But Faraday Future is still kicking, apparently. The company revealed last week that it has built its first "production intent" FF 91. If Faraday Future is to be believed—and we're not sure that's totally the case—production is "on schedule" to begin in the third quarter of 2022. With Faraday Future having receded from the limelight for so long, a refresher is due. The company was founded in 2014 by Chinese businessman Jia Yueting in California. In 2015, the company announced that it would build a plant in North Las Vegas, Nevada. By the time the FF 91—which was supposed to come to life in that factory—was unveiled in 2017, financial troubles had already begun. There were reports of accumulating debts, lawsuits from suppliers, and the claim from former employees that Faraday Future was actually two companies, with a separate entity set up in the Cayman Islands owning Faraday Future's intellectual property. Founder Jia had also established another competing electric vehicle venture, the LeEco LeSee, which insiders alleged was pulling funds and talent away from Faraday Future, despite other sources claiming that the LeSee was never a real car (it still hasn't materialized). In July 2017, a Chinese court froze $182 million in assets belonging to Jia, his wife, and LeEco affiliates, and days later Faraday Future said its North Las Vegas factory plans had been scuppered. August saw Faraday Future sign a lease for a former Pirelli tire plant in Hanford, California, and a year later Faraday Future sold a 45 percent stake to Evergrande Group—a Chinese property developer incorporated in the Cayman Islands—for $854 million. But two months later Evergrande pulled out of the deal, and Faraday Future began massive layoffs and salary cuts. In 2019, Jia filed for personal bankruptcy with over $3 billion in debt and stepped down from his role as CEO. Things went quiet at Faraday Future until 2021, when the company went public on the Nasdaq stock exchange via a merger with a special-purpose acquisition company—the same strategy employed by startup Lucid Motors. Throughout all of the financial topsy-turviness, Faraday Future has continued to promise the arrival of the FF 91. In 2018, the company said it had built a pre-production prototype at the Hanford plant and said production would begin in 2019. Now Faraday Future says it has built a "production intent" FF 91 in Hanford. According to a Faraday Future spokesperson, the latest FF 91 vehicle features a new instrument panel, front and rear consoles, and production-intent exterior lighting. There is also new exterior badging, a new production-spec lidar assembly mounted on the roof, and production paint applied in the paint booth in the Hanford plant. "CarandDriver"

  20. The Biden administration is working furiously behind the scenes to keep European allies united against Russia as Moscow further cuts its energy supplies to the European Union, prompting panic on both sides of the Atlantic over potentially severe gas shortages heading into winter, US officials say. On Monday, Russia's state-owned gas company Gazprom said it would cut flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany in half, to just 20% of its capacity. A US official said the move was retaliation for western sanctions, and that it put the West in "unchartered territory" when it comes to whether Europe will have enough gas to get through the winter. In response to the turmoil, the White House dispatched presidential coordinator for global energy Amos Hochstein to Europe on Tuesday, officials said. He will be traveling to Paris and Brussels to discuss contingency planning with the US-EU energy task force created in March, one month after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "This was our biggest fear," said the US official. The impact on Europe could boomerang back onto the US, spiking natural gas and electricity prices, the official said. It will also be a major test of European resilience and unity against Russia, as the Kremlin shows no signs of retreating from Ukraine. The US and Brussels have been pleading with EU members to save gas and store it for winter, and on Tuesday, energy ministers agreed in principle to cut gas use by 15% from August to March. There will also be discussions in the coming days about increasing nuclear power production across Europe to offset gas shortages, officials said. Germany was planning to completely phase out its use of nuclear power by the end of 2022, but US officials are hoping to convince Berlin to extend the life of its three remaining nuclear power plants amid the energy crisis, an official said. US officials, who have been in close touch in particular with German and French officials on this topic, are extremely concerned that Europe might face a serious gas shortage going into winter. That is because EU countries will struggle to fill their reserves over the next few months with Nord Stream 1 providing only a fraction of its capacity. Germany scrapped plans for another Russia-Europe gas pipeline, Nord Stream 2, after Russia invaded Ukraine in February. The US was opposed to that pipeline, warning that it would only increase European dependency on Russian gas. But Germany argued that the pipeline was a purely commercial project, and that it could serve as an energy bridge as it phased out nuclear and coal. The US ultimately issued waivers allowing the pipeline project to move forward without crippling sanctions. Now, officials said a 15% cut in Europe's gas consumption, along with a surge of global liquefied natural gas exports to Europe, including from the US, is unlikely to be enough to offset the shortages. "This is an open gas war that Russia is waging against a united Europe," Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky said on Tuesday. The US official said it was clear the Russians are "lashing out" and trying to "destabilize Europe" because they are not achieving their goals in Ukraine. A National Security Council spokesperson called Russia's moves just its latest attempts "to use natural gas as a political and economic weapon." "Russia's energy coercion has put pressure on energy markets, raised prices for consumers, and threatened global energy security. These actions only underscore the importance of the work the United States and the European Commission are doing to end our reliance on Russian energy," the spokesperson said. "We will continue working with our European partners to reduce dependence on Russian energy and support their efforts to prepare for further Russian destabilization of energy markets." "CNN"

  21. What would happen if the Earth stopped spinning on itself? These would be, according to experts, the main consequences if our planet were to completely stop its rotational motion Earth is a planet in the solar system, formed approximately 4.55 billion years ago. It is the densest and fifth largest of the eight planets in the solar system, as well as the largest of the four terrestrial or rocky planets. Like the rest of the planets, it is subject to movements of various kinds, although the main ones are defined with reference to the Sun, and are: rotation, translation, precession, nutation, Chandler's wobble and the precession of the perihelion. The most well known are translation and rotation. The first is the motion of the planet around the Sun, while the rotation is the spinning of the celestial body on its own axis. Over billions of years, the rotation of our planet has been gradually slowing down. It is a process that continues to this day, and estimates suggest that the length of a day currently increases by approximately 1.8 milliseconds every century. Faced with this scientific reality, it is common to wonder what might be the consequences on our planet if one day it were to suddenly stop rotating on itself. The experts' answer is clear: all objects and people on Earth would be thrown off the moment the planet came to a halt. This is because the Earth's rotational speed is 1,770 kilometers per hour (km/h) at the equator, and 0 km/h at the poles. And, despite this incredible speed, we do not realize that we are moving. Therefore, the abrupt stop of the Earth's rotation would be felt at the surface, so that everything and everyone would be "shot" by the centrifugal force and inertia of the motion, even the air, which would produce hurricane-force winds all over the surface. All this would be minimized near the poles, where the velocity is lower, being the only place where it would be possible to survive this disaster. Just like anyone in an airplane at that precise moment. Without the centrifugal force derived from the rotational motion, the gravitational force would remain, which would generate a redistribution of gravity that would alter the balance of the oceans. Two huge oceans would form around the poles, separated by a single continent. Entire regions would be flooded; in Europe, only Spain, Greece and southern Italy would emerge from the waters. Another cause of this standstill would be a devastating change in the length of nights and days, since the rotational motion is the cause of their occurrence. It takes the Earth 24 hours to make a complete turn around itself. Therefore, if the Earth stops rotating, a day would last what is now 365 days, that is, a year (6 months of day, 6 months of night). This duration would be given by the translational motion, that is, the 365 days it takes the planet to make a complete revolution around the Sun, a movement that occurs at the same time as the rotation. However, if the Earth stops rotating on itself, it would take 8,760 hours, which is equivalent to one year, to return to the same initial position after completing a complete revolution around the Sun. Finally, once the main consequences have been clarified, we must bear in mind that the possibility of the Earth stopping rotating at any moment is practically nil, so we can rest assured.
