  2. Lupa, based in Barcelona, is a start-up that is planning a wide range of low-cost electric vehicles whose biggest advantage lies in a range where they all have interchangeable batteries, which are sold separately to help maintain the lowest price. Its first model, the Lupa E26, will arrive in 2023 and will have a starting price of 17,000 euros, including the battery that the company values at 9,400 euros (without taxes). The Lupa E26 will use a skateboard-like platform to house a compact powertrain, combining the electric motor, transmission and electronics into a single unit, plus the battery. The brand has not confirmed whether it will develop it internally or buy it from a third party, but they have surely opted for the latter option. In terms of size, the E26 is from the same segment as the Renault Zoe, with dimensions of 4.07 meters in length, 1.78 m in width, 1.5 m in height and 2.59 m in battle (distance between axes). The Catalan manufacturer announces a power of up to 87 kW and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 9 seconds. Accumulating 42 kWh of capacity, the battery has a range that ranges between 320 and 400 kilometers (WLTP), depending on the type of driving. According to the information that is available, the E26 has three driving modes that impact the performance of the vehicle and its autonomy; in Sport configuration the engine produces 87 kW (117 hp), while in Normal it will be 66 kW (90 hp) and 48 kW (65 hp) in City. The E26 recharging time is around eight hours for a single-phase outlet, and five hours and 15 minutes for a three-phase 11 kW installation. With a fast charge in a 100 kW station it is capable of filling from 0 to 80% in just 30 minutes. Lupa astutely plans to offer a replaceable battery for around 8,700 euros (with a life expectancy of between eight and 10 years), and the company claims that all models will be able to fit the same battery. In addition, any collaborating workshop can install and repair it. Beyond its first model, Lupa also plans to launch an electric delivery van optimized for the closest deliveries, followed by two SUV models in 2024, those destined to be called 64 and 42. The latter will be priced close to 11,500 euros. , although without the battery or the taxes included; the final sale price with the battery goes up to 19,100 euros. The Lupa 64, with more autonomy and a 64 kWh battery, will do the same from 23,000 euros. E26 and later models will be sold exclusively online. “The first model, if you buy it new, will have to be with battery, unless you buy it second-hand from another customer. What we want is that the client can change cars every two or three years without having to make an investment in paying for the battery. In addition, in this way we are able to extend the life of the battery and be more ecological ”, declared the founder of Lupa, Carlos Álvarez, to electdrive.com. Álvarez hopes the idea will not only lead to more sustainable use of the battery in a second life, but also to greater loyalty.
  3. London and Brussels have reached an "agreement of principles" so that the so-called Protocol for Northern Ireland is "fully operational" on 1 January. The United Kingdom announced on Tuesday that it will withdraw the controversial legal clauses that allowed it to unilaterally violate the pact with the European Union (EU) on the Northern Ireland border after Brexit. London and Brussels have reached an "agreement of principles" so that the so-called Protocol for Northern Ireland, one of the essential pieces of the agreement to exit the EU that was ratified at the beginning of the year, is "fully operational" next 1 January, British Cabinet Minister Michael Gove reported in a statement. The threat by the British Government to violate that protocol had clouded in recent months the negotiation on the future relationship between both sides of the English Channel, which must be sealed before the end of this year. "Solutions" for Northern Ireland The progress announced today comes after the meeting on Monday in Brussels of the joint committee evaluating the implementation of the Exit Agreement, led by Gove and the Vice President of the European Commission (EC) for Interinstitutional Relations, Maros Sefcovic. The agreement reached clarifies the arrangements to be followed in Northern Ireland in areas such as customs controls for animals and plants, export declaration mechanisms and cross-border trade in medicines and other goods. Brexit negotiation continues The joint committee dialogue on the implementation of the Exit Agreement has taken place in parallel with the negotiation on the future relationship between London and Brussels, which remains blocked. British chief Brexit negotiator David Frost returns to the UK today to brief Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the status of the dialogue and assess next steps. The head of the British Government is scheduled to meet in the coming days with the President of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen, to try to move towards an agreement on the bilateral relationship after the Brexit transition period, which ends on December 31.

  5. The name "Jarama" can refer to: a river in Spain, in a region north of Madrid where nationalist and republican forces fought during the Civil War (1936-1939); to the first dedicated racetrack built in the country (1969); to a famous breed of fighting bulls; and to the identification that Lamborghini used on 328 of its sports cars produced between 1970 and 1976. Officially christened the Lamborghini Jarama GT, it was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1970 and was, according to the Italian house, “the latest evolution of the company's 2 + 2 gran turismo concept, with a 12 front-mounted cylinders ”. Building on the existing Lamborghini 400 GT and Islero, the Jarama had a bodywork designed at Carrozzeria Bertone, Turin, by Marcello Gandini. The “taut and angular lines” were the general theme, which fit perfectly with the trends of the 70s. Its design is not perceived as fast as that of a Countach or a Miura, but it was a relatively successful model for the brand, with 328 units manufactured. The bodywork of the pre-series units was assembled by Carrozzeria Marazzi from Caronno Pertusella, Varese, just after the production of the Islero, while the series models would be produced at the Carrozzeria Bertone plant in Grugliasco, Turin. The last 100 units made in 1972 would be "hybrids", with body panels courtesy of Bertone and assembled at Marazzi. Despite having a known structure as a starting point, the chassis was renewed with a braking system made up of four large discs (instead of drums), which had ventilation on the front axle, and the track width was enlarged by 10 centimeters (to 1,490 mm in total). On the other hand, the set of 15-inch Campagnolo magnesium wheels completed the rest of the new highlights to enter the new decade. Al Jarama was in fact known as the "small" version of the four-seater Lamborghini Espada. In truth, it had the Espada's chassis trimmed by 270 millimeters, keeping the engine and most of its components. Its heart, a 3.9-liter V12, was powered by six Weber carburettors, delivering 350 hp at 7,500 rpm and 394 Nm at 5,500 rpm. All the cavalry was transferred to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox, or as an option a three-speed Chrysler origin automatic. In terms of performance, it sprinted from 0 to 100 km / h in less than seven seconds and touched 250 km / h top speed. The interior was typically Italian, with leather upholstery for almost everything the hands could reach, air conditioning and a "comfortable cabin" for a sports car, plus a "roomy" trunk. However, the position behind the wheel was not very ergonomic, with a rim too far away and some pedals close to the seat. Its design is not that it was very careful: the seats offered a "reasonable" lateral support, and most of the keypad and secondary controls were distributed without any logic on the dashboard. The production of the Lamborghini Jarama, after the 1972 Geneva Motor Show, was expanded with the 365 hp “GTS” version, with a transverse air intake in the hood and two air outlets behind the front wheel arches. Inside there was a newly designed dashboard with new instruments and a different shape of the front seats to improve space at the rear. 152 units of this slope were manufactured. In the "S" version, the alloy wheels were also different: less elaborate and without the only central nut. For many years, both the Islero and the Jarama were Lamborghini's "forgotten" in the automotive market; most people only know the Countach, the Diablo, the Murcielago and the Aventador, along with the Gallardo and the Huracán, but models like the Jarama or the Urraco were not well known to many. But this has been changing in recent years, and today a Jarama is just as valued as any more modern model of the bull's signature, although the values that they ask for it are not yet as high as those of a Miura or a Countach. Ferruccio Lamborghini, at 75, told Thoroughbred & Classic Cars in a 1991 interview that the Jarama 400 GT was "the perfect car." With so many fabulous sports cars to choose from, it was the Jarama that its founder chose to elevate from the history of the exotic manufacturer. "I preferred the Jarama to everyone else, because it is the perfect compromise between the Miura and the Espada," said Lamborghini. Keep in mind that the Jarama was the last vehicle in the house equipped with a forward position engine, with the exception of a couple of SUVs, the LM 002 and the Urus. “The Miura is a sports car for the young at heart. Myself, I found him too outgoing after a while. In turn, the Espada was my Rolls-Royce, still quite fast, but also big and comfortable. The Jarama is the perfect sports car if you just want to have one car, "he told the British publication.
  6. He was one of the people who, in winter, would hide his hair in a thick knitted hat, believing that this would prevent more static electricity in it. What a lost adolescence. I would have saved my decency by knowing the science behind how to prevent and correct the static of a mane. Because yes, silky hair free of electrical charges is possible, as long as we understand the difference between frizz and static hair. For starters, while frizzy hair became a trend at Fashion Week, we don't want to take it to the next level in front of our mirror. While frizz comes from increased humidity, hair static is caused by a lack of it. Hence we notice it more during winter. Let's say that frizz is the poorly cared child that, with the passing of the months, grew, and originated an electrical recharge that it is better to glimpse. What causes static electricity in your hair? One of the frequently asked questions about hair care is related to the causes of static electricity. This is generated by an excess of electrical charge that some materials accumulate when there is friction with our hair, for example, when brushing it with force or when wearing a hat that covers it for several hours a day. In fact, the finer your hair is, the more prone you are to this static electricity.
  7. Significant differences persist in three respects: guarantees of fair competition, governance of the agreement and fisheries. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, agreed late this Saturday to continue negotiations for a post-Brexit agreement, despite acknowledging the "significant differences" that still separate to the parties. "Although we recognize these serious differences, we agree that a further effort should be made by our negotiating teams to assess whether they can be resolved," both have indicated in a joint statement, and have indicated that they have instructed their negotiators to meet again today in Brussels. The community official and the head of the British Government have spoken this Saturday for more than an hour, after the talks in London were suspended on Friday due to the verification of the lack of progress. In their call yesterday, both hailed the "progress that has been made in many areas", but at the same time recalled the "significant differences" that persist in three aspects: guarantees of fair competition, governance of the agreement and fisheries. "An agreement is not feasible if these issues are not resolved," the statement said. Johnson and Von der Leyen have also agreed to speak again Monday night to assess possible progress. "We will see if there is a way forward. The work continues tomorrow," EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier wrote on Twitter after the statement was released. The transition period after the effective exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union -which took place on January 31st- will end at the end of 2020, after which, in the event of no agreement, the commercial relations between the two blocks They will be governed by the general rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

  12. Just over a year ago, when we tested the Audi e-tron, we mentioned the outstanding electric car offensive that had the brand of the four rings on its hands. Now, while other rivals have also been strengthening their ranges, an expected and surprising option in equal parts arrives on the market. It is the Audi e-tron Sportback 55 quattro with which we have had the opportunity to share an interesting day. It was logical that Audi second electric was a variant that takes as its starting point the e-tron itself. Using that MLB Evo platform, one of the four that allow electrical mechanics, this specimen is created whose main difference will be its more dynamic design. Coupe shapes are all the rage, even in large SUVs with these characteristics and Audi is making the most of it by launching models like the Q3 Sportback and Q5 Sportback, as well as the future Q4 Sportback e-tron that will complete the electric range. And that is precisely what is sought with this Audi e-tron Sportback, to dazzle the general public with its captivating design. This differential factor together with other advantages already implicit in the e-tron name, such as technology or quality, mean that we have before us one of the most complete high-end electric SUVs on the market. We are going to check what this specimen can offer us with an interesting route around Madrid. And we start with the exterior design, which is probably the most differential of this new Audi e-tron Sportback. Departures from the pen of the Spanish Juan Carlos Huerta, it seeks to achieve a more emotional and recognizable image than in the conventional one. Although the truth is that in front of the B pillar everything remains practically the same. The front has a lot of personality thanks to the Singleframe grille furrowed by vertical slats and with a semi-fairing framework. It should be noted that in this test unit there was a Black Line finish that added elements in black, such as the grill itself, the roof bars and some moldings such as the front or side air intakes. At the front there are also Full LED headlights that come standard (optionally Matrix LED) with a well recognizable light signature. By finishing this area, the lower part of the bumper takes a more sporty shape. The side is one of the most prominent areas of the e-tron Sportback. We could tell by the charging sockets located on the fins, by the cameras that replace the rear-view mirrors or by the huge 20-inch wheels signed by Audi Sport that come in this unit. But also for that coupe silhouette that defines it. Starting from the B-pillar, the roof executes a very elegant drop that ends with a sloping rear window without wipers and a narrow and distinct C-pillar. An aerodynamic coefficient of just 0.25 Cx is also achieved and leaves us with a very personal lag. On the boot lid there is a small spoiler that also gives it a dynamic touch and just below what is most striking. We are talking about the LED taillights, which are linked in the center horizontally across the car. They have a set of lights that attracts a lot of attention when the vehicle is opened or closed. At the bottom there is a kind of diffuser finished off in black and lacking exhaust outlets (of course). To finish off the exterior of the Audi e-tron Sportback, it should be mentioned that it has dimensions very similar to those of its twin brother "no coupe". We are talking about a length of 4,901 mm, a width of 1,935 mm and a height of 1,616 mm; measures to take into account for those who move around the city or have small parking spaces. On the other hand, the wheelbase remains at 2,928 mm. Let's see how this affects your cabin.
  13. With the spread of covid-19 in Colombia, not a few people decided to postpone treatments and surgical procedures that they required to improve their health conditions. Today, seven months later, and as part of the ‘new normal’, it is imperative to resume them so that their quality of life is not affected in the medium or long term. At this time of the pandemic, "following international, national and district recommendations, elective surgeries have been opened and restarted in the vast majority of patient po[CENSORED]tions," announces Dr. Marixa Guerrero, chief of operating rooms at the Clinic del Country and La Colina Clinic. (We recommend reading: In bad weather, good face: let's talk about depression and anxiety). According to Guerrero, there are ailments that, given their complexity, require a surgical procedure that, if not treated promptly, can have repercussions on the patient's clinical deterioration. “Surgeries related to masses, of uncertain behavior or tumors –which can be benign or malignant- and that can only be clarified from a biopsy or from the extraction of the surgical piece itself, must be performed to guarantee a timely care of the clinical conditions ”, warns the expert. Surgeries to mark on the calendar Guerrero advises that these seven groups of surgeries be performed at the times indicated by the specialists: 1. Urological surgery: Treatment of kidney stones, pathologies associated with the bladder and prostate and minor procedures such as circumcision and vasectomy. 2. Breast and / or breast cancer surgery: Procedures such as biopsies must be attended to promptly to determine the characteristics of the tumors and to establish the respective treatment in a timely manner, as well as the surgeries to remove them and the respective breast reconstructions. 3. Gynecological surgery: Diligently attends to the treatments of diseases associated with ovarian and uterine pathologies. These non-cancerous tumors are difficult to identify and often have no symptoms or discomfort, but allowing them to increase in size can cause heavy and painful bleeding. (See also: Resilience: what does it mean and how to get it?). The most common surgery to remove fibroids is myomectomy; ovarian cystectomy, to remove cysts from the ovaries; and hysterectomy, to remove the uterus and sometimes the fallopian tubes and ovaries. 4. Certain heart surgeries: There are cardiac pathologies that can be treated surgically without being a medical emergency, such as severe obstructions of the mitral, tricuspid or aorta valves. These procedures are minimally invasive, but require timely patient care. 5. Head and neck surgeries: Neurosurgery cases related to malformations, shunts or treatment of intracerebral tumors constitute an urgency for your attention, for which they should not be deferred under any circumstances. (Read on: Post-quarantine love, the heart knows no viruses). Otolaryngology specialty surgeries are also being performed under optimal safety conditions to provide safe treatment to pediatric and adult patients. Surgical procedures to treat conditions such as hyperthyroidism, thyroiditis, or nodules through thyroidectomy also appear in this category. 6. General surgeries: There are conditions that should be treated as quickly as possible before they have definitive complications, and they are related to subspecialties such as gastrointestinal, vascular, bariatric surgery (to treat obesity) and abdominal wall. 7. Orthopedic surgeries: Some shoulder, hip, knee, foot and spine problems can compromise the mobility of those who suffer them and if they do not receive timely treatment, it could significantly impact their quality of life. That is why it is recommended not to delay the surgical procedures that are ordered from each subspecialty. Likewise, joint replacement or arthroscopic surgery processes should not be delayed. Life-saving controls There are laboratory tests and diagnostic tests that are essential because they allow you to check how your health is in general and determine if it is vital to start treatments or procedures of some kind. One of many, and that should not be underestimated, is that of vision, and "more so when suffering from diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and thyroid problems, because it is necessary to check its impact on the eyes", explains optometrist Nicole Vine. Secretions, redness, excessive tearing, lacerations or some opacity, as well as abrupt changes in vision require prompt consultation with the ophthalmologist and optometrist. "Knowing how blood pressure is, blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels are figures that all human beings must know to establish exactly how they will take care of their lives," insists Jaime Calderón, cardiovascular surgeon and president of the Colombian Foundation from the heart. Eye health should not be overlooked FACEBOOK TWITTER For the expert, these examinations and all those indicated by specialists in chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, among others, must be carried out without excuse. There are diseases whose attention is not waiting in men and women. In their case, prostate cancer has the highest incidence and mortality, so early detection is vital. From the age of 45, they should visit the urologist for a digital rectal examination together with the blood test called Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA, for its acronym in English). The frequency of the controls will be determined by the specialist, according to the specific conditions of each patient. (In other news: Increasing paternity leave, a good deal for society). In women, "breast cancer is the one that affects Colombians the most," explains Sandra Franco, head of oncology at Clinica del Country and Clínica La Colina. To that extent, it is advisable to perform an annual mammogram from the age of 40. Women, do not overlook other rigorous tests such as cytology, which should be performed every time the specialist indicates it. Check your heart All people, especially those who are at risk of suffering a cardiovascular event, must take care of and protect this organ. “One must be aware of how many beats per minute the heart must have, that normal is between 70 and 90, and understand that any manifestation below or above these figures must have a physiological explanation, for example, being scared, being afraid or feeling stressed, ”says Calderón. (It may interest you: Be careful: the rains increase the risk of being infected with respiratory viruses). That is why those over 35 years of age and with risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, any disease that affects fat metabolism or a family history of heart attacks, recommends an annual medical check-up of the heart. In addition, he urges them to monitor their weight and abdominal girth, to take their blood pressure frequently, and to schedule tests to determine blood sugar levels and lipid profile (cholesterol and triglycerides), as well as to check with their doctor if they are taking the medications and measures required to improve their condition.
  14. "After a week of intense negotiations in London, the two chief negotiators agreed today that the conditions for an agreement do not exist, due to significant differences," they stressed. The United Kingdom and the European Union (EU) have agreed to interrupt the negotiations to define their post-Brexit relationship due to the persistence of "significant differences" that prevent "the conditions for an agreement from being met." In a brief joint statement released through their Twitter accounts, the British negotiators, David Frost, and the community, Michel Barnier, have explained that they have agreed to stop the talks to inform their superiors of the status of the dialogue. "The president (of the European Commission, Ursula) Von der Leyen and the prime minister (British, Boris) Johnson will speak about the current situation tomorrow afternoon," they have pointed out in their note. "After a week of intense negotiations in London, the two chief negotiators agreed today that the conditions for an agreement are not met, due to significant differences in the level playing field, the governance of the agreement and fisheries," they stressed. . The three points mentioned by Frost and Barnier are those that have kept the parties away from an eventual agreement for months and, despite the fact that the tone of the statements changed in recent days, presaging a quick outcome, discrepancies persist in these aspects . A spokesman for the conservative Johnson had already announced today that the negotiations are "at a very difficult point" and recalled that "there is little time left" until the end of the post-Brexit transition period, on December 31.
