  1. Corsair has expanded its formidable memory portfolio with a new series of high-performance memory kits. The Vengeance RGB Pro SL checks in with a lower profile and slightly revamped look. Measuring 51 mm tall, the original Vengeance Pro RGB didn't always fit under some of the more chubby CPU air coolers. To remedy this inconvenience, Corsair has optimized the Vengeance RGB Pro SL's design to 44m. The new memory modules retain the anodized aluminum heat spreader with up to 10 individually addressable RGB LEDs. They come in both black and white color options. initially, the Vengeance RGB Pro SL memory modules are available in DDR4-3200 and DDR4-3600 flavors. The first comes with 16-20-20-38 timings, while the latter has 18-22-22-42. Regardless of the frequency or capacity, the Vengeance RGB Pro SL requires a 1.35V DRAM voltage. When it comes to capacity, there are more options to chose from. Corsair offers the Vengeance RGB Pro SL in dual-channel and quad-channel presentations. The dual-channel 16GB and 32GB memory kits are comprised of two 8GB and 16GB memory modules, respectively. The quad-channel 32GB and 128GB memory kits, on the other hand, feature four 8GB and 32GB memory modules, respectively. It's a bit surprising that Corsair doesn't sell the Vengeance RGB Pro SL in a 64GB package. Corsair's Vengeance RGB Pro SL memory is optimized for both Intel and AMD platforms. It comes with XMP 2.0 support for a quick and easy setup. As usual, Corsair backs the memory kits with a limited lifetime warranty.
  2. Three days may not amount to much in the face of infinity, but it’s enough time to give it a taste, at least. Amplitude Studios has launched definitive edition bundles of its excellent 4X games Endless Legend and Endless Space 2, and to celebrate, all the Endless games are free to play for the weekend. Now until January 25, you can play fantasy themed Endless Legend, the spacefaring Endless Space 2, and the roguelike space-fantasy Dungeon of the Endless for free on Steam. They’re all games that are worth checking out on their own, and they all slot into Amplitude’s ‘Endless’ universe, a persistent world that the studio says is big enough to contain an “infinite number of stories.” The free weekend marks the launch of the two ‘Definitive Edition’ bundles, which both contain the base games plus all the DLC packs released to date, as well as a newly announced DLC pack each. For Endless Space 2, that’s Dark Matter, which includes a series of 12 quests that have you investigating the events that led up to the fall of the Endless. For Endless Legend, the upcoming DLC is Monstrous Tales, and it includes 20 new stories and quests, all involving monsters of one kind or another. If you decide you like any of Endless games during the free weekend, it’s a great time to buy, because they’re all 75% off.
  3. The 2021 Ford Bronco has an expansive color palette with 11 options, but a shade of green isn't among them. That's changing for the 2022 model year because an emerald hue is joining the range. Ford spokesperson Mike Levine confirmed the new paint choice on Twitter. He also responded to several people asking about the color's availability by saying it would be "widely available." This indicates that buyers should be able to get the hue on several trim levels, unlike the First Edition-exclusive Lightning Blue. Levine's only hint about the shade of green is that it's not the color from the Wildland Fire concept (gallery below). The Bronco Nation forum has started a poll asking members what hue they want, and the current winner is Boxwood Green. This minty-colored paint was available on the first-gen Bronco. Gallery: Ford Bronco Wildland Fire concept Levine previously confirmed that Ford planned to change the Bronco's color options for the 2022 model. He said some new shades were joining the lineup, while others were going away. If there's a shakeup that's necessary, the company probably the three shades of gray Area 51, Cactus Gray, and Carbonized Gray, in addition to the somewhat similar Iconic Silver. The 2022 Bronco will also reportedly gain a hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. Judging by current models with this powertrain, it'll possibly have from 350 horsepower (261 kilowatts) to 450 hp (336 kW). The transmission will reportedly be a 10-speed automatic. There is a report of the 2022 Bronco gaining a Heritage Edition. Unfortunately, there are no details about what is included in this package yet. Judging by the name, we'd expect equipment that evokes the model's past.

  5. As if it weren't hard enough for consumers to buy RTX 3060, RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 cards already, MSI's now registered Ampere "Miner" cards with the Eurasian Economic Commision. This isn't the first news we've seen of MSI graphics cards built specifically for cryptocurrency mining — the company also registered Turing mining cards with the EEC last September (likely as a fallback in case Ampere stock runs out). But with Etherium hitting its highest prices that it's seen since 2018 this January, concerns over cryptominers pushing GPU prices higher and buying up already rare stock are becoming more valid than ever. To be fair, an EEC registration doesn't mean that a product is coming. It's not uncommon for manufacturers to register products just to hold the name. Still, MSI has released mining cards before, back when Pascal was the top of the line and Bitcoin was starting to draw mainstream attention. These models, the P106-100 and P104-100, weren't exclusive to MSI and were part of a larger push from Nvidia and AIBs to create GPUs specifically for mining, which reduced cooling power and stripped away cosmetic features like RGB. But neither is this an idle threat. At last week's 19th Annual J.P. Morgan Tech/Auto Forum Conference, Nvidia CFO Collete Kress said the company would consider restarting its mining line of GPUs, "if crypto demand begins or if we see a meaningful amount." Given that Etherium is experiencing a price spike, there's certainly "meaningful amounts" to be made right now. And while AMD GPUs have traditionally been the mining cards of choice, Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3080 has been found to have a hashrate of 3x to 4x that of the RTX 2080 while RDNA2's mining performance is only marginally higher than RDNA1's. MSI's current registration is only for the 3060 Ti, but who knows what might come down the line? Ampere cards are also more power efficient than their predecessors, with the RTX 3060 Ti in particular using 50W less power than the 2080 Ti while delivering similar hash rates. That's important for miners, since too much power consumption can drastically lower profits or even put them in the red. We'll have to wait to see whether MSI's Ampere mining cards come to market, or if this is just the first sign of a larger mining push from other AIBs and even Nvidia itself. But if so, be prepared for the current Ampere shortage to continue into the foreseeable future.

  6. Dragon Age spiritual successor The Waylanders has a major localisation update coming up before the end of the month, and to celebrate, the developers of the RPG game have provided a hint at the next big location adventurers will be traveling to in its magical world: the extremely Christian medieval city of Compostella. The Compostella reveal trailer gives us a whirlwind tour of the city, which is a stone fortress built around a massive gothic cathedral. The clip is narrated by someone who sounds as though he’s the city’s founder, and who may well wind up being the main antagonist of the second act of The Waylanders. There’s heavy emphasis on the region’s Christian heritage, particularly on how it’s been the force behind the efforts to ‘civilise’ the area and rid it of “demons and pagans.” That’s going to make things interesting as the game moves out of its first act, which is set in a ‘Celtic Era’ that serves as a confluence of mythologies from all over the world and beyond. Greek heroes rub elbows with Egyptian demigods in the opening scenes of The Waylanders, and the story taking a turn through the devoutly Christian Middle Ages is sure to lead to some conflict. Here’s the trailer: “We know players are eager to find out what is going to happen next and we can’t wait to see people explore medieval Galicia,” Waylanders creative director Sergio Priesto says. “I hope this little taste of what’s to come keeps all our fans excited.” Act 2 won’t be out until the full game launches this spring, but next week, early access players (who have been able to journey through the first 12 or so hours of The Waylanders) can look forward to additional localisation languages, including Spanish, Latin American Spanish, French, German, Simplified Chinese, Russian, and Galician. That update is planned for January 25.

  8. In 2010, Nissan introduced the world to the term "E-Power," with the first-generation Leaf EV. Since then, the branding has also been applied to fully electric vehicles like the Ariya, as well as the hybridized, global-market Note and Kicks. But recently, the company filed for a similar trademark that suggests a second version – or at least a variation – of the current E-Power system. Nissan calls it "I-Power." According to documents uncovered by CarBuzz via the US Patent and Trademark Office, Nissan has filed for use of the term I-Power in future products. Registered by the company on January 5, 2021, the trademark specifically refers to an "electric drive unit for land vehicles." Given the close association to the term E-Power and the use of the letter "I," our best guess is that this is the upcoming propulsion system for future Infiniti hybrid and electric vehicles. Gallery: Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept Infiniti has already promised to become a "sustainable premium brand," saying that it will roll out multiple EVs and a few gas-generated hybrids over the next few years. Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta said in an interview that the company would share Nissan's EV platforms and the E-Power electric powertrain, but that Infiniti's setup would have a unique name and luxury-specific tuning, lending more evidence to use of the term I-Power. We also know that future Infiniti EVs will also adopt the Nissan Ariya's E-4orce all-wheel-drive system. As of yet, it's unclear exactly which Infiniti models would use the proposed I-Power setup (if that name is indeed confirmed). The debuts of the QX60 Monograph and QX Inspiration concepts from years past could suggest that a production three-row would be one of the first to adopt the new nameplate, but there's no confirmation of that. We'll simply have to wait and see.

  9. Shanghai Tianshu Zhixin Semiconductor Co., Ltd., commonly known as Tianshu Zhixin, announced that its Big Island (BI) GPGPU has come to life. The BI is touted as China's first domestic GPGPU that's tailored towards AI and HPC applications and other industries, such as education, medicine, and security. The BI packs 24 billion transistors, and it's based on a home-made GPU architecture. The chip is built with the cutting-edge 7nm process node and 2.5D CoWoS (chip-on-wafer-on-substrate) packaging. Tianshu Zhixin doesn't explicitly reveal the foundry that's responsible for producing the BI. However, the description of the node coincides with one of TSMC's manufacturing processes. Tianshu Zhixin commmenced development on its BI chip in 2018. The company finalized the tapeout for BI back in May 2020 and should have already underwent mass production if Tianshu Zhixin wants to meets its goal of commercializing the chip this year. The BI solution reportedly provides twice the performance of existing mainstream products on the market, while also offering a very appealing performance-to-cost ratio. BI supports a plethora of floating point formats, including FP32, FP16, BF16, INT32, INT16, and INT8, just to mention a few. Tianshu Zhixin is keeping a tight lip on the BI's performance, but the company has teased FP16 performance up to 147 TFLOPS. For comparison, the Nvidia A100 and AMD Instinct MI100 deliver FP16 performance figures up to 77.97 TFLOPS and 184.6 TFLOPS, respectively.

  10. The website of controversial social media service Parler has re-appeared online days after going dark thanks to a yet-to-be-identified web hosting service. The company's website reappeared online on Sunday afternoon, featuring a message from CEO John Matze which read, "Hello world, is this thing on?" However its Android and iOS mobile apps are still offline. Parler had gone offline last week after Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced it would be pulling the plug on Parler over apparent insufficiencies in the platform’s content moderation policies. Parler return Investigation by TechRadar Pro using a po[CENSORED]r traceroute service showed that Parler's data was being routed through Finland and France using Telia-owned network twelve99. However the final location of the data, and henceforth the hosting provider, is still unknown. TechRadar Pro has contacted Telia for comment. CNN reports that a WHOIS search reveals Parler's domain to now be registered with Washington-based domain registrar and hosting firm Epik. Epik is already notorious for being the domain registrar for several far-right and extremist content groups and services, including alternative social network Gab, and formerly working with infamous online imageboard, 8chan. For the time being, it is not clear who is providing Parler with web hosting services following AWS' retreat. Before dropping offline, Parler was also removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the two largest app marketplaces in the world, over threatening and violent content that remained live on the platform. Marketed as the “free speech” social network, Parler is renowned for its laissez-faire attitude to content moderation and has long resisted any form of user surveillance. For this reason, it was clear favorite to become the platform of choice for disgraced US President Donald Trump after he was banned from Twitter and Facebook last week, and even topped the App Store download charts for a brief period in the aftermath. Although concerns had already been expressed that alt-right groups were using the platforms to organize rallies and spread misinformation, the widespread boycott was triggered by the storming of the US Capitol Building, which was said to have been organized in part over Parler. Parler has since launched a lawsuit against AWS over alleged violations of antitrust law and breaches of the contractual agreement between the pair. Amazon, for its part, claims that threatening content hosted on Parler amounted to a breach of contract, justifying the shutdown.

  11. Time sure… flies, huh? Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is now two years old, and to celebrate, publisher Bandai Namco has a free update on the way that adds a selection of free new content to the arcade-style flight simulation game. What Ace Combat 7 pilots will be seeing when the update drops January 19 is a bundle of new skins and emblems for their aircraft. There’s a Phoenix skin for the F-22A, a Mobius skin for the F-4E, Garuda for the F-15E Strike Eagle, Rodgebacks for the ASF-X Shinden II, a Crow skin for the F-16C Fighting Falcon, Scarface and UPEO skins for the Su-37, Gryphus for the F-22A Raptor, UPEO for the Typhoon, and a eye-melting glowing skin for the X-02S Strike Wyvern. On top of that, you’ll also be getting a new batch of emblems for use on your aircraft, one of which is Trigger’s distinctive orange wolf carrying a revolver in its mouth. That’s all well and good, but we choose to believe that Trigger’s mascot is actually the legendary JPEG Dog, a dearly departed golden retriever who had belonged to one of the developers. Here’s all the new kit in action:

  14. WhatsApp on Friday postponed a data-sharing change as users concerned about privacy fled the Facebook-owned messaging service and flocked to rivals Telegram and Signal. The smartphone app, a huge hit across the world, canceled its February 8 deadline for accepting an update to its terms concerning sharing data with Facebook, saying it would use the pause to clear up misinformation around privacy and security. "We've heard from so many people how much confusion there is around our recent update," WhatsApp said in a blog post. "This update does not expand our ability to share data with Facebook." It said it would instead "go to people gradually to review the policy at their own pace before new business options are available on May 15." The update concerns how merchants using WhatsApp to chat with customers can share data with Facebook, which could use the information for targeted ads, according to the social network. "We can't see your private messages or hear your calls, and neither can Facebook," WhatsApp said in an earlier blog post. "We don't keep logs of who everyone is messaging or calling. We can't see your shared location and neither can Facebook." Location data along with message contents is encrypted end-to-end, according to WhatsApp. "We're giving businesses the option to use secure hosting services from Facebook to manage WhatsApp chats with their customers, answer questions, and send helpful information like purchase receipts," WhatsApp said in a post. "Whether you communicate with a business by phone, email, or WhatsApp, it can see what you're saying and may use that information for its own marketing purposes, which may include advertising on Facebook." Technology experts note that WhatsApp's new requirement of its users makes legally binding a policy that has been widely in use since 2016. Facebook aims to monetize WhatsApp by allowing businesses to contact clients via the platform, making it natural for the internet giant to centralize some data on its servers. Countries concerned The Turkish Competition Authority said it is opening an investigation and requiring WhatsApp to suspend the data sharing obligation on its users. Several Turkish state organizations—including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's media office—switched to Turkcell telecom's new messaging service BiP in response. The terms of service tweak also put WhatsApp in the crosshairs in Italy and India, where a petition has been filed in a Delhi court. WhatsApp's notice to users lacked clarity and its privacy implications need to be carefully evaluated, Italian data protection agency GPDP said in a post at its website. GPDP said it has shared its concerns with the European Data Protection Board and reserved the right to intervene in the matter. Facebook has come under increasing pressure from regulators as it tries to integrate its services. The EU fined the US social media giant 110 million euros (then $120 million) for providing incorrect and misleading information about its 2014 takeover of WhatsApp concerning the ability to link accounts between the services. Federal and state regulators in US have accused Facebook of using its acquisitions of WhatsApp and Instagram to squelch competition and filed antitrust lawsuits last month that aim to force the company to divest them. Privacy paramount User privacy fears have been mounting, with Uber careful to stress that a change in app terms taking effect on January 18 has nothing to do with sharing data. Encrypted messaging app Telegram has seen user ranks surge on the heels of the WhatsApp service terms announcement, said its Russia-born founder Pavel Durov. "People no longer want to exchange their privacy for free services," Durov said without directly referring to the rival app. Encrypted messaging app Signal has also seen a huge surge in demand, helped by a tweeted recommendation by billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk. WhatsApp has sought to reassure worried users, even running full-page newspaper adverts in India, proclaiming that "respect for your privacy is coded into our DNA".
  15. The creator of the Aya Neo Ryzen powered gaming tablet has decided to finally launch the Aya Neo worldwide. Next month, the Aya Neo will go on an Indiegogo campaign where you can purchase the tablet for $699. The campaign will last just 30 days. The Aya Neo is a one-of-a-kind gaming tablet packed with full-blown mobile PC components in a form factor, similar to the Nintendo Switch. Specs-wise, the Aya Neo features a Zen 2 based hexa-core Ryzen 5 4500U (with its integrated Vega IGP), 16GB of LPDDR4X 4266Mhz RAM, an NVME SSD, an 800P display, and a 47WH battery. While those specs don't scream fast in a traditional gaming laptop, it's not that bad for a tablet. In fact, the Aya Neo can pull off a stable 30 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 (at low settings) at its native resolution. With how small the Aya Neo is, that is quite an impressive feat. So if you're looking for a tablet to play your PC games on, the Aya Neo is probably your best option right now.
  16. The Seat Cupra Formentor SUV is about to get a whole lot more interesting. Thanks to an Audi sourced turbocharged inline-5, the spied Seat Cupra Formentor FZ is on its way to a dealership near you. This exciting SUV will borrow a great deal of hardware from the superb Audi RS Q3 SUV and we are expecting some impressive results. The Seat Cupra Formentor rides on Volkswagen Auto Group’s latest MQB Evo architecture that is shared with newer products like the Mk8 Golf and Skoda Octavia. Since the Cupra Formentor is one of the first SUVs to ride on this latest architecture, this is a unique opportunity for Volkswagen Auto Group to develop future drivetrain configurations for upcoming models in their other brands. Power is rumored to come from the same turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-5 cylinder engine found in the Audi RS Q3 where it produces an impressive 400 horsepower (298 Kilowatts). This power is routed to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This potent drivetrain is capable of catapulting the Audi RS Q3 from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds. When it comes to final power figures for the Seat Cupra Formentor FZ we’ll have to wait and see how the chips fall. If there are no plans for a more powerful RS Q3 any time soon expect the Seat Cupra Formentor FZ to have a slightly detuned engine so that it doesn’t upstage its Audi big brother. However, if Audi is planning to turn up the power of the RS Q3 we can expect the Cupra Formenter FZ to offer the output of the current engine. As automakers transition to more SUV-focused product portfolios, it's exciting to see the growth of performance trim levels. This allows customers to enjoy a practical SUV without sacrificing the engaging driving experience synonyms with sports sedans.
