  1. Assassin's Creed Mirage has been officially unveiled Assassin's Creed Mirage has been confirmed as the next Assassin's Creed game. It takes the series to Baghdad, and seems to be a more traditional take than recent entries. What we know is that Mirage looks to be a decidedly different experience, focusing own smaller-scale stealth and exploration. Starring Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Basim Ibn Ishaq, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will take us to Baghdad, 20 years before the events of Valhalla, and will take the decades-spanning series back to its roots. This means a more self-contained play area, and a renewed focus on assassinations and stealth mechanics. From what we've seen, it looks to have more in common with the very first game than any released in the last few years. This is, of course, music to the ears of some Assassin's Creed fans, many of which who've felt the series straying further and further from the core mechanics that initially defined the series. Whether it sticks the landing remains to be seen, but things do sound promising so far. To help keep you in the loop with all things Assassin's Creed Mirage, you'll find all of the latest news and rumors right here on this page. Here's what you need to know. Assassin's Creed Mirage is coming in 2023, though we don't have a specific release date just yet. Ubisoft confirmed the game's existence and release window following a ton of leaks around the upcoming title. In terms of platforms, Ubisoft has confirmed that Mirage will be a cross-generation release. As such, expect to see it on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PC, and cloud streaming service Amazon Luna. There's unfortunately no free upgrade between generations, but it's also cheaper than recent big releases, launching for $49.99 / £39.99 RRP. We may see a Nintendo Switch release, given Assassin's Creed Odyssey came to the handheld hybrid via cloud streaming. It's worth noting that was limited to the Japanese market, so we can't say for certain one way or the other. Link: https://www.techradar.com/news/assassins-creed-mirage-everything-we-know-so-far
  2. During a roundtable discussion from Wild Rift’s developers on the latest patch, we learned about the champions added, new items, skins released, history, diversity, and more. League of Legends: Wild Rift was released in October 2020 and has already amassed more than 20 million average monthly players. Wild Rift takes many favorites from League of Legends proper such as Ahri, Senna, Lucian, Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn to name a few, and lets players use them in mobile team matches. If you're unfamiliar, Wild Rift works from the core League of Legends as a pivotal foundation but employs mechanics, game length, and even character choices differently from the PC game. The characters, however, do stay true to their PC counterparts mechanically and aesthetically. Wild Rift matches are about 15 minutes long in comparison to League of Legends' typical 45 minutes. Wild Rift is basically an expedited version of playing League of Legends on your phone, but flourishes in its own right, grabbing players from all over with the ease of playing with mobile. GameSpot recently sat in on a roundtable discussion of Wild Rift’s newest patch, 3.14: Power Spike. This patch adds new items, characters, and balance changes to the Wild Rift roster and it's available now. If you want to check out exact balance changes, and specific stats buffs/nerfs to characters, you can check out the Champion Changes for Wild Rift 3.4 that goes into detail on all of your number needs. You can go here for the patch notes but below you can learn about what's new and on the horizon for Wild Rift from the developers directly. New Champions The additions to Wild Rift’s roster will be added over time with patch 3.14: Power Spike. Gwen, the Hallowed Seamstress, and Yone the Forgotten made their debut in Wild Rift on September 15 and September 22 respectively. “2022 is going to have a lot of edgelords,” David Xu, product manager on Wild Rift, quipped about the upcoming character releases of Gwen, Yone, Vex, and Warwick. Gwen brings her fabled Hallowed Mist with her iconic scissors in hand and is able to burst down enemies. Yone brings his dual swords, and his spirited mechanics of slashing enemies with elegance, grace, and swift death. “2022 is very much going to be focused on bringing some of what we believe are some of our heavy hitters--the heavily requested Champions,” Xu said. “In 2023, this is when we'll start to bring in some more niche Champions. Champions that are more filling specific thematics or specific gameplay [mechanics] that we’re looking for. Expect to see some of the other treasure trove of Champions from League of Legends PC in subsequent milestones.” Gameplay Changes Outside of the Power Spike update, Wild Rift also received its first considerable map update with Elemental Rift. “We made huge changes to the objective system as well as the map changing throughout the game.” Wild Rift itself has different issues and priorities to tackle in contrast with League of Legends PC such as the pinging system. There is less functionality on a mobile platform to be communicative with teammates in relation to League of Legends on PC, the developers said. "For Wild Rift, oftentimes, there are unique challenges and differences for our game that are specific for Wild Rift compared to League. We really wanted to tune [the] Elemental Rift to help players get better agency over their games, and feel better overall when it comes to pacing and how much game stress there was,” Adnan Mirza, gameplay producer for Wild Rift, said. One example offered by Mirza is that communication is generally more difficult between players on mobile devices as the audience doesn't really like to speak or use headsets. Sometimes this means changing things that are working in League of Legends to fit better on mobile. “Whenever [players] would see any content, even if it’s from League PC, we’re always thinking about how it would best fit Wild Rift. [For example], we've tuned out some of the complexities in the game and some of the decision points because that was causing a lot of fatigue for our players.” In-game communication in team-based games can be arduous on a mobile platform, but this Wild Rift update will have new ping system options. These new options do not replace the default ones, but are extra preferences. “Improving communication’s going to always be a big [aspect] for us,” Mirza said. New Items Similar to League of Legends PC, Wild Rift's latest update will also add additional items to the game. New item releases can aid in providing improved benefits to players that previous items could not contend with. Sometimes specific roles need to be given more options of items to equip, so they can be in a better state for the match or the game on the whole. “We wanted to make the gameplay experience better for supports. We made a lot of balance changes in those spaces to add new Enchants, tune some parts of the game, and now add support items. The supports now have a better ability to control their own experience, and have more agency, Mirza said.” Player feedback is always given to developers for MOBAs such as Wild Rift, and the team at Riot wants to take into account the feedback or qualms players may find themselves in while playing Wild Rift. “We’ve been seeing [increased] success with either player feedback [and] the other different metrics we have,” Mirza stated. A prime example is feedback from players having a tougher time using supports in-game in compared to other roles. The developers would like to bring future Wild Rift content that is not solely from, or has prior foundational elements, from League of Legends PC. Skins Skins have been a mainstay with League of Legends PC for years. They are meticulously, extravagantly, and wonderfully crafted themes or aesthetic modifications for already-released Champions. Some of the skins released in the Power Spike update are Space Groove Gwen, Crystal Rose Yone, Bewitching Vex, and Superhero Jayce. “We still want to keep releasing fan-favorite skins from PC that people really liked, and making sure that players of Wild Rift have the opportunity to choose something that really resonates with them or speaks to them in a particular way,” Jared Berbach, the game director for Wild Rift, said. Like the other developers of Wild Rift have stated, Berbach is also looking forward to future releases in 2023, “Our story is really about, how can we make things that feel more uniquely Wild Rift and are potentially even exclusive to Wild Rift? Just kind of a treat for our player base that we want them to enjoy.” Berbach said, “We have a lot of players that choose to stick with us [exclusively] on Wild Rift, and we want to reward that investment with our time with really cool, new thematics they can enjoy.” History and Diversity League of Legends, and Wild Rift in particular, are played by players from all over, with many different groups of color, marginalized identities, and ethnoreligious backgrounds. In the past, Riot Games has had explicit problems in its release of characters, where there is a prevalent whitewashing of ethnicities from characters of color such as Lucian. The company has even had white characters receive very Orientalist aesthetics, tropes, or skins over the years with Lunar reveals, for example. When asked, if they induce more forethought, when creating skins for Wild Rift, Berbach said, “We know that to reach global audiences, we need to be able to represent all of those underrepresented groups.” Riot has established RIGs (Rioter Inclusion Groups) with the idea of bringing together groups of people to represent people of underrepresented identities. "They are always part of a process that we use in [the] creation of Champs and skins. For example, when we created Lucian, we had a very extensive process between the game team and that RIG to specifically support them, their thoughts about how we could authentically bring that character in, and avoid a lot of the tropes that [Veerender Singh Jubbal] is describing,” Berbach said. Mirza chimed in from a personal standpoint, “I worked on a lot of the gameplay and have less direct involvement with the art, but I do see the conversations and the feedback. I am also South Asian, and know that colorism occurs, sometimes, and am reminded of pretty prominent marketing slogans in Urdu like ‘Ab gora ho gaa’. They will be light-skinned or fair-skinned now. Something I am pretty well aware of, and from my perspective it’s never felt really intentional at all from [Riot Games]." When moving across mediums within a company, concerns or problems can arise solely from the switch of different teams or developers in the creation process. An immense amount of creative effort goes into the concept art of a character all throughout until it is playable to the public. Errors such as authenticity may not be translated completely into the entire process. “Sometimes I think there’s been a loss from a translation aspect when you go from one medium to another either in-game or 2D art. Sometimes these things don’t quite line up, but the team tries very hard to get ahead of these [aspects], and when you mess up--you try really hard to fix it." Mirza said. "I do have the sense of sensitivity from my sense because of the culture I am from. We never claim to be perfect, but we try really hard and try to listen to feedback [to] make changes when these different arts don’t quite line up with what they are supposed to be.” link" https://www.gamespot.com/articles/riot-discusses-its-diversity-efforts-for-wild-rift-and-the-power-spike-update/1100-6507800/
  3. MPs have been warned they are being targeted by "hostile states", with their mobile phones "a potential goldmine" of sensitive information. In a letter to MPs, Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle urged MPs to avoid using their phone for sensitive conversations or even having it in the same room. "If hackers have switched on the microphone on one phone everyone in the room might be overheard," he wrote. The government is creating a taskforce to defend the UK from hostile actors. Last month reports emerged that former prime minister Liz Truss's phone was hacked while she was foreign secretary The Mail on Sunday reported that private messages between Ms Truss and foreign officials, including about the Ukraine war, fell into foreign hands. Liz Truss phone hack claim prompts calls for probe Gmail 'safer than parliament's email system' In relation to the letter, which was first reported by HuffPost UK, Sir Lindsay's office said it did not discuss security matters. However, it was shared with the BBC by an MP who received it. In it, Sir Lindsay said: "As recent events have highlighted, hostile states continue to target Parliamentarians to gain insight into, or exert influence over, our democratic processes for their economic, military or political advantage." He warned no mobile phone could be made completely secure, but he shared advice from the government's National Cyber Security Centre to minimise the risk of a phone being compromised. The advice includes limiting the length of time messages are saved on a device and limiting access to microphones and location services. One MP told the BBC the warning was necessary because "we are hopelessly slack" about information security. Another described the advice as "perfect common sense", adding: "I'm sure we are constantly being surveilled by state actors." The letter comes after an the government announced earlier this month that it was creating a special taskforce to defend the UK's "democratic integrity" in the face of threats from hostile actors. Security minister Tom Tugendhat said the taskforce would look at issues ranging from physical threats to MPs, to cyber-security. The government's National Security Bill, which contains measures designed to tackle threats such as spying, economic espionage, foreign interference and sabotage, is currently going through Parliament. The bill seeks to make it an offence to interfere with the UK's democracy and civil society through disinformation or by attacking its electoral processes. A new Foreign Influence Registration scheme will seek to compel anyone acting for a foreign power or organisation to declare any political influencing activity that they are carrying out. link" https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-63654863
  4. Octopuses are ocean creatures that are most famous for having eight arms and bulbous heads. Some other fun facts: They have three hearts and blue blood; they squirt ink to deter predators; and being boneless, they can squeeze into (or out of) tight spaces. They are quite intelligent and have been observed using tools. And sadly, for them, sex is a death sentence. Description The order Octopoda includes 289 species, according to the World Animal Foundation. The word also refers specifically to animals in the genus Octopus. The word octopus comes from the Greek, októpus, which means "eight foot," according to a Smithsonian magazine article that summarized facts in Katherine Harmon Courage's book, "Octopus! The Most Mysterious Creature in the Sea(opens in new tab)." Some people call their appendages tentacles, but that is incorrect; they are arms. Most octopus species have suction cups on the bottom of each arm. The arms seem to have a mind of their own. In fact, two-thirds of an octopus' neurons are in its arms rather than its head, according to the article. That means that an octopus can focus on exploring a cave for food with one arm while another arm tries to crack open a shellfish. Some octopuses even have warts. Two deep-sea octopuses in the Graneledone genus — G. pacifica and G. verrucosa — have skin bumps dotting their pink-hued mantles. These warty protrusions, it turns out, can be used to distinguish the two species, which have been incredibly difficult to tell apart. Scientists reporting June 7, 2017 in the journal Marine Biology Research catalogued the distribution of warts on both species, pinpointing two variables that were consistent across the individuals within a given species: distance between the warts and the tip of the mantle and the extent to which the skin bumps spread down the creature's arms. Octopuses have an excellent sense of touch, according to the World Animal Foundation. Their suckers have receptors that enable an octopus to taste what it is touching. Most octopuses — those in the suborder Incirrata (or Incirrina) — have no internal skeletons or protective shells. Their bodies are soft, enabling them to squeeze into small cracks and crevices, according to National Geographic(opens in new tab). In April 2016, an octopus at the National Aquarium of New Zealand squeezed out of its tank and made an eight-armed dash for a drainpipe that — luckily for him — led directly to the sea. A bulbous sack-like body, or mantle, is perched on top of an octopus' head. The only hard part of their bodies is a sharp, parrot-like beak that is on the underside, where the arms converge. Octopuses have powerful jaws and venomous saliva, according to National Geographic. Octopuses weren't always squishy creatures. The ancestors of octopuses and squid sported hard shells. A study published online March 1, 2017 in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences revealed these marine animals lost their hard "mobile homes" in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. This shell loss likely helped the ancient relatives of today's octopus, squid and cuttlefish become more agile to evade predators and nab prey, the researchers said. link: https://www.livescience.com/55478-octopus-facts.html
  5. The package improves off-road capability for the baby Bronco via steel bash plates and all-terrain tires. The 2023 Ford Bronco Sport is getting a new off-road-oriented package known as the Black Diamond package. Available for $1295, the package is available for Big Bend and Outer Banks trims, and it increases the Bronco Sports chops as an off-roader by adding steel bash plates for added underbody protection. Ford is also expanding the Bronco Off-Roadeo experience to include all 2023 Bronco Sport order holders. Ford is now offering a happy medium for buyers who are interested in taking their Bronco Sport off-road but don't want to spring for the robustly equipped Badlands edition. For $1295, the Bronco Sport Black Diamond package bridges the gap by giving customers a slew of new graphics, and more importantly, adds protection for the Bronco Sport's vitals. Four steel skid plates bring added protection to the underbody, including the fuel tank, as well as a front skid plate to protect the car from particularly angular rocks. New 17-inch wheels are wrapped in a set of 225/65R17 all-terrain tires. As a bonus, the package comes with graphics on the hood, lower body, and doors. The new package is limited to the Big Bend and Outer Banks trim levels, but the well-equipped Badlands wouldn't really benefit as it already receives AT tires and skid plates to protect the powertrain and fuel tank. Ford also announced that it would be expanding the Bronco Off-Roadeo program for buyers of 2023 Bronco Sports. The program is available at four locations around the country and teaches new owners about the capabilities and perhaps more important, the limits of their vehicles. According to Ford, 90 percent of Bronco Sport customers who attend the Off-Roadeo program are likely to go off-roading again, while 97 percent feel more confident about off-roading.
  6. I thought I was going for a routine therapy session. But Wendell had other ideas In July 2007, I visited a shaman by accident. My wife had an appointment with a therapist called Wendell and, unable to attend, she offered it to me. As I ascended the stairs in Notting Hill, I mused on the fact that I had once worked as a film editor at a company on Wendell Road in Shepherd’s Bush. I hadn’t thought about that job for years; it was before I became a father, a comedy writer, a musician and a voice artist – and developed the calm exterior that belied my turbulent, contradictory internal state. It had been 22 years but being cast back to that time made me shudder, as though a wave was passing through me. As I stopped on the landing, the door opened. Wendell, an African-Caribbean man of about 40, stared at me in a way I didn’t expect from a welcoming therapist. He tilted his head to one side as if to say: “What’s the story?” “Hello,” I ventured. “Sarah couldn’t come but thought it would be OK if I did …” Wendell kept staring. He seemed wary and on edge. “Why?” It was a good question. Before I had a chance to answer, or even think of one, Wendell said: “There are two of you. There are two of you here.” My instinctive reaction was to do a comedy double-take over my shoulder, but I didn’t. Something in Wendell’s demeanour was marrying with my odd thoughts and memories on the way up the stairs. And what he was saying made sense. In retrospect, what I think was happening as I climbed the stairs was that the homunculus inside me, realising it was close to a presence that threatened its existence – Wendell – was awakening. I realise that makes me sound, well … unsound – but I have had a long time to think about this. Anyway, Wendell beckoned me into his room and asked me to tell him what was on my mind. So I told him everything about being abused when I was a child – or rather, gave him a 20-minute precis. “He’s here, he’s here with you,” said Wendell, with absolute certitude. I experienced an intense sensation of anxiety, as if someone had released a bag of chaffinches into a hitherto unknown cavity inside my chest. Wendell calmly explained that as well as being a therapist, he was also a shaman. Did I know what a shaman was? I said I thought so. Wendell explained further that he could perform an exorcism and rid me of the presence he had detected inside me. There was a flat, padded platform in the centre of the room, a bit like a massage table, and Wendell suggested I lie on it. He asked me to trust him and said not to be scared by anything I might see or hear. I had seen a couple of therapists and the odd counsellor in the past for a session or two, long enough to con them (or at least con-vince them) that I was fine. This felt nothing like that. There was no tinkling water feature, meditative music or whale-song. This was just a very simple, third-floor room in west London, through the windows of which I could see the branches of leafy plane trees and hear the sound of passing buses. Wendell asked me to tell him more about my abuser. None of it came out in order. Rather, there was a series of unconnected sentences. It felt as if the information was being proffered by a presence inside me, hoping each nugget would satisfy Wendell’s curiosity. I felt powerless over what was being said, but the longer the litany went on, the more I felt a swelling in my chest. And then I began to cry. And cry. And cry. Hot streams of tears flooded over my cheeks and round my neck. I was silent but shaking, as the massive swelling in my torso seemed to pump tears endlessly. “Pffffffftttttt.” Wendell spat a dry, sharp noise from pursed lips, like the sound of an arrow flying then hitting a target. There was a rattle from a gourd filled with seeds. Wendell moved around the table and my sobbing form, his legs bent at the knee, almost prancing. He shook around me like the wind, like a kite on the wind, like a shutter clattering – all the time flitting around me, the bed, the room. I cried harder and harder, the swelling now felt as if it wanted me to eject it and all the time the “Pffffffftttttt”, the shaking of the seeds, the concentrated, forensic attention as Wendell did battle. Advertisement Suddenly, my chest seemed to be opening, accompanied by a roaring sound like a plane taking off. I felt an endless column of light rushing and roaring upwards from me – upwards, upwards, pulling me, yet all the time I felt Wendell ensuring I stayed. He was flying about me, his actions, sounds and will all furiously co-ordinated as the column of light gained infinite height. The roaring intensified, the light poured out of me, burning everything to white. Silence. “He’s gone now.” Wendell was sitting on a chair close by. I was shaking with the aftershocks of so much crying, shuddering like a toddler. Something fundamental had shifted within me. Although it would be years before I was able to understand the occurrences and consequences of my abuse, this was the beginning of the process. I can’t be sure of what actually took place in that room. I can only say how it felt. It was painful and raw, like a clumsy initial rooting around to extract shrapnel, but it was a necessary start. Even if it had happened by accident. link: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/16/a-moment-that-changed-me-i-visited-a-therapist-who-offered-me-an-exorcism
  7. Rabat - Moroccan climber Facial Bourkiba has teamed up with French ice and mixed climber Jeff Mercier to ascend Tazarhart in the High Atlas mountains in Morocco. In a documentary titled “Land of the Cold Sun,” the two climbers highlighted their attempt to explore Tazarhart, or “little plateau” in Tamazight, which lies at over 3,900 meters above sea level. The plateau has seven 350-600 meter corridors. “Our objective is to go and find a gully, a ‘couloir’ on a north face,” Mercier said. Given that “mountaineering is totally non-existent in Morocco,” Bourkiba said in the documentary, exploring the alpine line was a tough task amid a lacking supply of mountaineering equipment in the country, except in some public markets located in mountainous villages. Bourkiba first learned his trekking skills eleven years ago before getting into mountaineering. The Moroccan athlete practices mountaineering in the high Atlas range particularly in the region of Tazarhart, near the Toubkal mountain. While there are a few Moroccans who have succeeded in ice climbing in challenging terrain such as Everest, mountaineering remains unpo[CENSORED]r in Morocco. Read Also: Atlas 9 Moroccan Team Preparing for First Climb of Mount Everest “More than that, Moroccan society will never accept what we do, because it is dangerous and it is not well-known at all,” says Bourkiba. In this context, “climbers have a hard time finding technical equipment and clothing” which “has held back the development of mountaineering and ice climbing in Morocco,” the climber argued. In addition to structural and cultural constraints, the prevalent stereotypical portrayal of Morocco as a desert country overrides people’s perception of the Atlas mountains as a potential regional hub for mountaineering. “The idea that there is ice in Morocco, which is a country in Africa, a country that has a desert, seems pretty crazy,” Bourkiba stated. Echoing his teammate’s statement, Mercier said in the opening of the “Land of the Cold Sun” documentary that Morocco “is a bit of an off-destination compared to the places I usually go to.” After completing the Tazarhat expedition, Bourkiba announced this week his new challenge along with Remy Veness and Sam Clarke in the Atlas mountains. 8. There is no evidence a missile that slammed into a Polish border town near Ukraine was an intentional attack on his country, Poland President Andrzej Duda said Wednesday. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and NATO leaders supported Duda's assertion. The missile, which killed two people in a rural area, appeared to be Russian-made, Duda said. Ukraine's weaponry includes Russian-made missiles. “Ukraine’s defense was launching their missiles in various directions and it is highly probable that one of these missiles unfortunately fell on Polish territory,” Duda said. “There is nothing, absolutely nothing, to suggest that it was an intentional attack on Poland.” Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters that, based on information from his top commanders, "it wasn’t our missile or our missile strike,” adding that his officials should have access to the site and participate in the investigation. He also said that if the evidence shows the missile came from Ukraine, "then we need to apologize.” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, at a meeting of the military alliance in Brussels, said a preliminary analysis suggests the incident was likely caused by an Ukrainian air defense missile fired against Russian cruise missile attacks. "But let me clear: This is not Ukraine's fault," he said. "Russia bears ultimate responsibility as it continues its illegal war against Ukraine." The Russian Defense Ministry said photos of the wreckage released by Poland indicated the missile was from a Ukrainian S-300 missile defense system. Russia itself carried out massive missile strikes against Ukrainian cities Tuesday, knocking out power to millions of people. "All the missiles launched hit their designated targets precisely," the Defense Ministry’s press service said in a statement. Ukraine said it actually shot down more than 70 of the 90-100 missiles fired, in addition to 11 drones. link: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/11/16/ukraine-russia-poland-missile-live-updates/10709829002/
  9. Nvidia said Azure would be the first public cloud to use its Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking technology. The US chip designer and computing firm Nvidia on Wednesday said it is teaming up with Microsoft to build a “massive” computer to handle intense artificial intelligence computing work in the cloud. The AI computer will operate on Microsoft's Azure cloud, using tens of thousands of graphics processing units (GPUs), Nvidia's most powerful H100 and its A100 chips. Nvidia declined to say how much the deal is worth, but industry sources said each A100 chip is priced at about $10,000 (nearly Rs. 8,14,700) to $12,000 (nearly Rs. 9,77,600), and the H100 is far more expensive than that. “We're at that inflection point where AI is coming to the enterprise and getting those services out there that customers can use to deploy AI for business use cases is becoming real,” Ian Buck, Nvidia's general manager for Hyperscale and HPC told Reuters. “We're seeing a broad groundswell of AI adoption... and the need for applying AI for enterprise use cases.” In addition to selling Microsoft the chips, Nvidia said it will partner with the software and cloud giant to develop AI models. Buck said Nvidia would also be a customer of Microsoft's AI cloud computer and develop AI applications on it to offer services to customers. The rapid growth of AI models such as those used for natural language processing have sharply boosted demand for faster, more powerful computing infrastructure. Nvidia said Azure would be the first public cloud to use its Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking technology which has a speed of 400Gbps. That networking technology links servers at high speed. This is important as heavy AI computing work requires thousands of chips to work together across several servers. link" https://www.gadgets360.com/internet/news/nvidia-microsoft-azure-cloud-team-up-build-massive-ai-computer-3527176

  10. You asked for it, and Apple is going to deliver - you will be able to turn off the wallpaper in always-on display mode in iPhone 14 Pro. iOS 16.2 Will Let You Turn off Wallpaper and Notifications in Always-on Display Mode in iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max Disagree with me all you want but the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max deliver the best-ever always-on display experience. Instead of going all monochrome and hiding everything in favor of a clock only, Apple just dims down the display whenever you lock your phone. It's superb eye candy, and we absolutely love it. However, that always-on display comes at the cost of battery life, and you can remedy it by simply turning off the always-on feature completely or applying a dark wallpaper. It kinda sucks that Apple doesn't let you turn off the wallpaper completely in always-on mode, especially if saving battery life is your priority. All of that is about to change with iOS 16.2, though. Once downloaded and installed, you can set your iPhone to not show the wallpaper at all when you lock your phone. You can even set it to not show notifications in always-on mode. If you've been waiting for this feature to arrive, then simply look forward to iOS 16.2. This isn't the only feature you should look forward to. iPadOS 16.2 adds external monitor support for Stage Manager with M1 and M2. Currently, it will simply mirror whatever there is on the iPad Pro display in the same aspect ratio as an external monitor. Stage Manager does not take advantage of an external display's aspect ratio at all if you have an M1 or M2 iPad Pro running iPadOS 16.1. That will change with iPadOS 16.2. link" https://wccftech.com/ios-16-2-will-let-you-turn-off-wallpaper-in-always-on-display/

  14. The Wydad midfielder hopes to put an end to his bench “curse” in the Qatar World Cup. Rabat - Former player of Morocco's national futsal team Yahya Jabrane is set to attend Qatar World Cup with the Atlas Lions. According to his club Wydad Athletic Club (WAC), the midfielder is the first player to attend the futsal and football World Cups. Jabrane represented Morocco in the 2012 shoppingmode FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand before becoming an international football player. Jabrane’s football journey was marked by good performances with Moroccan clubs, Raja Beni Mellal, Mouloudia d’Oujda, and Hassania d’Agadir. On July 1, 2018, Jabrane left the Moroccan league to join the UAE-based Dibba Al-Fujairah club where he spent roughly four months before returning to Casablanca, near his hometown Settat, to sign a four-year contract with Wydad AC. Since then, Jabrane has contributed to the club’s victory in CAF Champions League in May by scoring two goals in two games. He also assisted his team in securing three titles for the Moroccan championship for the 2018/19, 2020/21, and 2021/22 seasons. The midfielder, also captain of the Red Castle, received the player of the year award in Botola Pro Inwi in July after scoring one goal and assisting another in eight matches throughout the tournament. His recent success with Wydad AC and participation in a Moroco-Chile friendly game in Spain has helped increase the player’s market value to €1.9 million in November, up from €800,000 in April 2021 and €1.3 million in December 2021, according to data from Transfermarkt. Jabrane’s market value is expected to increase over the coming months with his participation in the World Cup, organized in Qatar from November 20 to December 18. Jabrane first joined the national squad in the CAF African Nations Championship (CAN) in 2018, but has spent most of his career with the national team on the bench. In 2018, he only participated in one out of seven games in the competition but celebrated his team’s 4-0 victory against Nigeria in the final on April 2, 2018, from the bench. After being absent in the World Cup, CAN qualifiers, and international friendly in 2018 and 2019, Jabrane returned to the Atlas Lions squad for the CAN qualifiers in November 2019 but stayed on the bench for two matches against Mauritania and Burundi. However, 2021 was the peak of his career with the national team as he participated in all Moroccan games in the CAF African Nations Championship and scored in the country’s opener against Togo (1-0) in the first match of Group A. He later participated in the CAN qualifiers against Mauritania, the friendlies against Ghana and Burkina Faso as well as two group matches and quarter-finals in the shoppingmode FIFA Arab Cup. In 2022, Jabrane was absent from most Atlas Lions games in the World Cup qualifiers, CAN, and CAN qualifiers. On November 10, Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui announced Jabrane among the seven Moroccan midfielders to feature in the 2022 shoppingmode FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The list included Sofyan Amrabat, Amine Harit, and Azzedine Ounahi. Olympique Marseille’s midfielder Harit is currently suffering from a serious knee injury that has disqualified him from the competition. Regragui is expected to find a replacement for Harit to complete the 26-member squad. However, Harit’s absence in the tournament might provide more match time for Jabrane who has previously worked under the management of Regragui in WAC. 15. The UK's international reputation has taken "a bit of a knock" this year, Rishi Sunak has admitted, as he vowed to restore economic stability. The prime minister said tax rises and spending cuts in Thursday's Autumn Statement were needed to reduce rising inflation and UK public debt. Critics of his approach fear it could worsen a predicted two-year recession. But Mr Sunak said decisions would be taken in a "fair" way, and everyone would benefit from reduced debt levels. Speaking to the BBC's political editor Chris Mason at the G20 summit in Indonesia, he added reducing inflation was his "number one challenge". He added it was important to "limit" mortgage repayments for homeowners, which have risen in the wake of September's mini-budget. "The best way to do that is to get a grip of our borrowing levels, and have our debt on a sustainable basis falling," he added. Everyone will have to pay more tax - chancellor Economists question 'black hole' in UK finances What do we know will be in the Autumn Statement? Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, who will unveil the Autumn Statement on Thursday, has warned that everyone will pay more tax under his plans to repair the public finances. The budget, the government's second financial package in under two months, comes after mostly now-abandoned tax cuts in the mini-budget, outlined by Liz Truss's chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, sparked financial turmoil. The Treasury has not confirmed details, but the BBC has been told Mr Hunt is set to announce spending cuts of about £35bn and plans to raise £20bn in tax. The plans are likely to include freezes to income tax bands, and increases to taxes paid on profits made from selling shares and second homes. Mr Sunak has hinted that pensions will rise to keep pace with inflation, telling reporters on the way to Bali that pensioners would be "at the forefront of my mind". Also under discussion is a plan to allow councils in England to raise council tax by more than 3% without holding a local vote - something they cannot do at the moment. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt was earlier urged not to go down that route by Labour MP Chris Bryant - but he did not rule it out. He said everyone will be asked to contribute more in tax in Thursday's Autumn Statement, with the better-off taking the biggest hit. "And that will be reflected in our decisions on council tax and every other tax as well," Mr Hunt told MPs. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-63633657
  16. Sea-monkeys is the marketing term used for a hybrid breed of brine shrimp sold in packets of dust in aquarium shops. Sea-Monkeys is the marketing term for a common type of sea creature: brine shrimp. As a product, Sea-Monkeys were first sold in 1950s. Sea-Monkeys are sold in packets of dust comprised of brine shrimp eggs in suspended animation. The process used to create these creatures is proprietary. Despite their name, they're not monkeys. Sea-Monkeys are a hybrid breed of brine shrimp called Artemia NYOS produced in 1957 by Harold von Braunhut, according to the journal American Entomologist(opens in new tab). Initially marketed as "Instant Life," Sea-Monkeys are sold in hatching kits as novelty aquarium pets. he inspiration behind Sea-Monkeys came from a trip to a pet store, according to the Sea-Monkeys website(opens in new tab). Von Braunhut saw brine shrimp being used as fish food and wondered whether they could be used to teach children about nature. He conducted experiments to find ways to preserve the brine shrimp and then bring them back to life. According to EMBO Reports(opens in new tab), the creatures, which have vaguely monkey-like tails that inspire the moniker, are derived from crustaceans that undergo "cryptobiosis." Cryptobiosis is a state of suspended animation that some creatures, such as tardigrades, can enter in times of adverse environmental conditions. Creatures can stay in this state indefinitely, then reanimate when conditions improve. When a person buys a packet of Sea-Monkeys, they appear to be lifeless dust. But when the dust is put into a tank of purified water, the Sea-Monkeys gradually emerge. They grow steadily over the next few weeks, feeding on a diet of yeast and spirulina, according to the Microscopy Society of America (MSA)(opens in new tab). Sea-Monkeys are born with one eye, and pop out two more upon reaching maturity, according to the journal Evolutionary Biology(opens in new tab). They're translucent, and breathe through their feathery feet. They can reproduce sexually or asexually, and they chase flashlight beams. link: https://www.livescience.com/33907-sea-monkeys.html
  17. Gather 'round for the 10 Type R commandments. Are you a true believer? Do you understand what summer tires can do for you, why a sunroof hurts performance, and that speed limits are just a starting point for negotiations? Do you feel persecuted by law enforcement for your beliefs? Well, Honda just built a car for you in the new 2023 Civic Type R. Go forth, spread the gospel of compact performance, and live by the Type R’s code of conduct. I. Thou Shalt Not Understeer This commandment is impossible for a front-wheel-drive car to follow, or so we thought. And yet, this 11th-generation Civic follows the directive from on high despite its 315-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four hanging ahead of the front axle and 61.4 percent of its weight on its nose. On the street, front-end grip seems inexhaustible as the Type R ducks left and right, forcing you into the seat bolsters. Go ahead and dive into an apex, because the steering is a mere 2.1 turns lock to lock and the Type R slips in without any drama. Corner exits, which usually require the patience of Job in a front-wheel-drive car, are masterfully orchestrated by the Type R’s limited-slip differential. That unit, coupled with a very crafty anti-torque-steer front strut, puts the engine's power to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and allows you to empty the 2.0-liter's magazine without widening the cornering line. Next corner. Try again. No understeer, just more exit speed. As if some invisible string is holding the car, keeping it from leaving the road. It makes no sense that a front-driver can do this, so let's just add it to the list of things that don't make sense in 2022. II. Thou Shalt Not Hook Up Not in the carnal sense; go crazy there. Here, it's hooking up as in launching hard from a stop. Boost arrives after a beat or two, but the torque surge at about 3000 rpm—310 pound-feet, available from 2600 to 4000 rpm—will have you on the phone to Tire Rack. Turn the wheel slightly while hitting the gas in first and the front end eagerly hunts for the ditch or the oncoming lane as the differential tries to make the most of available grip. The solution is to keep the wheels pointed straight in first. link: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a41952459/2023-honda-civic-type-r-by-the-numbers/
  18. A walk amid cinematic landscapes to five south Wales waterfalls – and a cosy pub – proves the perfect substitute for a holiday abroad It had been a tough month for several reasons and I needed a break. I initially thought a holiday abroad would be the only antidote. But as it turned out, a wild-swimming weekend in the Brecon Beacons in south Wales was the only medicine I needed. My excitement at the coming trip quickly morphed into panic as we looked at the weather forecast: lots of grey cloud and big rain drops. After settling into our cosy room in Brecon, we put on our waterproof trousers and walking boots and braved the elements. A quick drive took us to the start of the Dragons Back route in the Black Mountains whose ups and downs recall the scales of a sleeping dragon. The constant spit of rain became cooling as we hiked up the steep grassy bank, at first trying to avoid the sheep poo, and then forgetting all about it. In fact, the weather made the landscape seem cinematic, the gaps between the low clouds revealing the next rolling hill like a curtain parting before the big screen. The air was so fresh, I felt it cleansed us of all the London grit and grime. The only building in sight was the Dinas Castle Inn, the highest pub in the Brecon Beacons national park, so we treated ourselves to a pint of Bale lager, ate garlic bread by the fire and wondered if the waterfall we’d be swimming in the day after would be as cold as our beers. link: https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2022/nov/15/waterfall-hiking-weekend-break-wild-swimming-brecon-beacons-wales
  19. PFLUGERVILLE, Texas – A middle school teacher in Texas no longer works there after a comment he made in class expressing his race was superior to another. The teacher, who worked in the northern Austin suburb of Pflugerville, has not been publicly identified by officials. The Bohls Middle School teacher, drew outrage from parents and community members over a statement, captured by students on video, that he was "ethnocentric," which meant he thought his "race is the superior one," after the videos were shared on social media Friday. The district announced in a statement Monday morning that the teacher was no longer employed by Pflugerville schools but did not say whether the educator had been fired or had resigned. The district is looking for a replacement. The conversation was inappropriate, Superintendent Douglas Killian said in the statement. "We want to reiterate that this conversation does not align with our core beliefs and is not a reflection of our district or our culture at Bohls Middle School," Killian said. "The advisory discussion was inappropriate, inaccurate and unacceptable." The district has notor provided more specifics about the context of the comments. Videos posted to various social media platforms show the teacher, who is white, discussing race in a classroom full of students, many of whom are Black. 21. Toss a date to your Witcher The Witcher 3's next-gen upgrade has been a long time coming, but it's finally received its long-awaited release date. Best of all? You'll be able to play it soon. The next-gen update for The Witcher 3, tailor-made for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, was initially confirmed to arrive in Q4 2022 after the port was delayed indefinitely much earlier in the year. Thankfully, though, fans won't have to wait much longer at all to witness Geralt of Rivia in 4K console glory. The Witcher 3's next-gen update will be arriving on December 14, just in time for the Christmas period. A standalone version titled The Witcher 3 - Complete Edition will launch for all modern platforms (except Nintendo Switch). Better still, the update will be free of charge for anyone who owns the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The next-gen update will include visual enhancements like ray tracing and fast load times thanks to the consoles' speedy internal SSDs. New content inspired by The Witcher's Netflix adaptation is also here, as well as all previously released DLC including both expansions. Don't own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S? Fear not, as last-gen owners aren't being left behind. CD Projekt RED has confirmed the base versions of the game, as well as the Nintendo Switch port, will be receiving "numerous additions and improvements." The Witcher 3 remains an excellent game seven years on from release, but until now, console players haven't had the most optimal experience. On PS4 and Xbox One, that 30fps framerate cap prevented the game from playing as smoothly as it could on PC. The game's massive open world also didn't play nice with last-gen systems. I remember doing my best to keep fast travel to an absolute minimum in the knowledge that doing so could result in some painfully slow load times. That's partly why I'm thankful for the improvements current-gen consoles have brought to the table. Hopefully, long load times and stodgy framerates should now be a thing of the past. But I'm especially keen to see The Witcher 3's approach to ray tracing. CD Projekt RED has experience with the tech, implementing it in Cyberpunk 2077. However, it's certainly not perfect there, relegated to local light shadows so as to keep framerates relatively stable. The Witcher 3 is an older game, meaning that hopefully, ray tracing won't place too much of a burden on its performance when it arrives on current-gen systems. lINK: https://www.techradar.com/news/the-witcher-3-free-next-gen-update-finally-has-its-release-date-locked-in
  22. Coming 2022 In Desta, anxiety dreams take the form of a tactical dodgeball game--and it works. In Desta: The Memories Between, you play as Desta, who takes on the unenviable, but relatable task of overthinking future conversations that you don't want to have. This anxiety manifests itself as a tactical dodgeball game in your dreams where you think through the worst possible conversation scenarios with old friends and family while visiting home for the first time in years. To turn that familiar human experience into a grid-based dodgeball game sounds strange on paper, but in practice, it works and delivers alongside it a solid tactics game that uses the mobile platform well. Interpreting this rehearsal of future conversations as tactical dream dodgeball works well because it feels about as normal as the average anxiety dream. It only really makes sense while it's happening and only falls apart when you try and explain it later. In this way, Desta nails the feeling of a dream, which is difficult to do in any entertainment medium. As a video game, it also works well as a fun tactics game. Every person in your life that you're dreading a confrontation with appears to you in your dreams (alongside some nobodies to serve as cannon fodder) on a layout of squares with randomized barriers. Old friends introduce themselves by berating you for the thing you're anxious about, manifesting your worst-case scenario. You take turns moving positions, picking up dodgeballs, and tossing the ball at them to inflict damage and whittle down their health while making sure you're in a position to not receive the same punishment. The core idea is familiar to anyone who has played a comparable strategy game, but the dodgeball adds an element of action and finesse that works well on a touchscreen. Once in position, you pull back on your character to launch the dodgeball like a slingshot, making sure to release at the right moment for added speed. You can bounce the ball against enemies to hit other enemies, or bounce the ball into the hands of your teammates. You can even throw the ball against a wall to bounce it around a corner, or make sure it bounces back to you so the ball is in your hand for the next turn. Throwing the ball is a fun system that gives you lots of additional options in the arena, and when the bounces work in your favor it feels great. Unfortunately, it can also hurt you in a way that doesn't always feel fair. Sometimes the physics don't quite work and the shot I thought was lined up perfectly bounced in an unexpected, detrimental way. With the touchscreen, I also occasionally accidentally threw a ball when I was just trying to rotate the camera, which was frustrating. Most moves can be undone without any penalty, which is great, but for understandable reasons, once you throw the ball, that turn is over. Special abilities are unlocked as you play but are randomized each time you attempt a run. For example, one allows you to use all your action points to inflict more damage with a single throw, while another enables you to switch positions with an enemy to give yourself the advantage. This randomization is a good way to introduce you to abilities you may like but would not have otherwise tried, but it also locks you into some abilities that don't feel particularly useful. If you use an ability enough and level it up, you get to keep it across runs, which is great, but early in the game you're at the mercy of whatever you get and there were a few I just never found a great use for. Desta is a roguelike which means you do have to restart a run when you wake up from a dream after getting hit by a dodgeball too many times. You level up and gain more health and movement spaces per turn as you go, as do the teammates you add to your team through the course of the game. Leveling you and your friends up, even with runs that don't go well, is great, and it encouraged me to be experimental when things weren't going my way. The downside of tackling the game through a series of runs are the repeated conversations. The dialogue changes a little bit each time you encounter the character you've been dreading talking to again and again, but I can only hear my childhood friend yell at me for not reaching out to her so many times. I could even sense Desta getting annoyed as they had to go over the conversation with their high school teacher they never properly thanked for the support again for the fifth time. The dialogue is well-written, the characters are fully realized and well-performed, and I was excited to see Desta overcome her anxieties--that excitement just waned as she did it again and again with the same people. Desta: The Memories Between is an interesting follow-up to developer Ustwo's breakout hit, Monument Valley. It swaps the abstract, yet emotional storytelling for something more overt, but still dreamlike. The overall setup, visual aesthetic, and soundtrack is great and the tactical combat is fun, but repeated conversations make some of the runs feel like a chore, and sometimes the dodgeball feels more like a loose cannon. Desta's journey, however, is a relatable one and helping them complete it--even in a dream--was a cathartic experience that made me want to text that friend I had not spoken with in years.
