The new "dwarf dinosaur" species lends more evidence to the "island rule," which posits that animals evolving on islands become smaller than their mainland counterparts. If you think of Transylvania, you might imagine a place po[CENSORED]ted by vampires and werewolves. Now, you can add "dwarf dinosaurs" to that list. A group of researchers recently identified a new species of dinosaur from the region, dubbing it Transylvanosaurus platycephalus, or, "flat-headed reptile from Transylvania." And it's part of a group of dwarf dinosaurs that evolved to be much smaller than their relatives. T. platycephalus, a member of the Rhabdodontidae family — a group of herbivorous ornithopod dinosaurs — lived about 70 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period (145 million to 66 million years ago). At this point in Earth's past, flowering plants had evolved — and with them the first pollinators — and birds' ancient ancestors were just beginning to experiment with flying. The massive supercontinent Pangea had broken up into several smaller continents and Europe was an archipelago of tropical islands, more like modern-day Indonesia or the Galápagos. In a new study, published online Nov. 23 in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology(opens in new tab), the researchers described the newfound species from bone fragments from the forehead and from the lower back portion of the skull. In life, T. platycephalus would have measured just 6.5 feet (2 meters) long. It had a wide, flat head and lived alongside other reptiles, such as crocodiles and turtles. Prior research suggested(opens in new tab) that dinosaur diversity had already significantly declined by this point in Earth's history, just prior to the mass extinction that ended the Cretaceous. But this new finding may suggest that diverse dinosaur forms were still very much a part of Cretaceous Europe's landscape. "With each newly-discovered species we are disproving the widespread assumption that the Late Cretaceous fauna had a low diversity in Europe," Felix Augustin(opens in new tab), lead study author and a doctoral candidate at the University of Tübingen in Germany, said in a statement(opens in new tab). And the dinosaur's diminutive size makes it the newest member of the so-called dwarf dinosaur family found in Romania's Hateg region (Transylvania is the historical and cultural name for the region in central Romania). The Hateg dwarf dinosaurs are an infamous group of dinosaurs that have captivated paleontologists since their discovery in the early 20th century. In 2010, another group of researchers determined(opens in new tab) that during the late Cretaceous, an island spanning about 30,900 square miles (80,000 square kilometers) lay in the Hateg region where these dwarf dinosaurs have been found. Islands commonly produce smaller-than-usual species. Today, there are dwarf lemurs on an island in Northern Madagascar and dwarf foxes in the California Channel islands. Ten thousand years ago, dwarf elephants and dwarf hippos lived on islands in the Mediterranean. In a study published in 2021 in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution(opens in new tab), researchers analyzed thousands of reports of body size changes for over a thousand species and found that "the island rule" generally holds true — over generations, large animals tend to become smaller when they're isolated on an island. There are a few hypotheses behind why animals shrink on an island. It could be that the lack of large predators allows animals to stay small, evolutionary anthropologist Caitlin Schrein wrote in 2016 in the anthropology magazine Sapiens. Island ecosystems may offer less variety in food, perhaps leading to stunted growth in some animals, Schrein wrote. And if there are no large predators on the island, those smaller animals won't be removed from the po[CENSORED]tion. During the late Cretaceous, Rhabdodontidae dinosaurs were the most common small-to-medium herbivores in what is now Europe. In the new study, the researchers noted that relatives of T. platycephalus have been found in modern-day France, which at the time would have been a separate island. As the archipelago formed and sea levels fluctuated, land bridges between islands could have allowed the dinosaurs to spread out and evolve in isolation from each other. They might even have dispersed between islands by swimming short distances, Augustin suggested. Dinosaurs "had powerful legs and a powerful tail. Most species, in particular reptiles, can swim from birth," Augustin said. link: https://www.livescience.com/dwarf-dinosaur-transylvania

[Auto] Watch a Ferrari SF90 Destroy a Superbike in a Drag Race
BirSaNN posted a topic in Auto / Moto
BMW's fastest bike doesn't stand a chance. On the cheap end, production bikes are faster than production cars. With a $10,000 budget you'd have no problem getting a bike that could run away from any internal-combustion car that costs five times as much. But when you get to the ridiculous, over-the-top end of the performance spectrum and add in electric motors, cars are hard to beat. Proof comes in the form of this new video from CarWow, which pits the Ferrari SF90 up against the BMW M1000 RR. The bike is BMW's fastest, a special edition with M branding and 212 hp on tap from a 999-cc inline-four engine. That's quite a bit for a package that ways just over 400 pounds unloaded. But it doesn't matter. The Ferrari, with its half-million-dollar price tag and sophisticated hybrid system, is too quick. The gas-sucking V-8 makes 769 hp all on its own, but with the three onboard electric motors, total system output is 986 hp. That power goes to four driven wheels, giving the 3500-pound Ferrari a much bigger traction patch with which to unleash its 590 pound-feet of torque. The result is a browbeating for the bike. An all-wheel-drive, 1000-hp hypercar is just too much to handle. But we'd bet the BMW rider had more fun. link" https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a42099705/ferrari-sf90-vs-superbike-bmw-m1000-rr-drag-race/ -
From personalising your space to dressing to express, five experts in business culture and office design share their tips on how and why employees should bring more of themselves into the workplace Depending on your line of work, expressing your personality at the office can feel awkward – or even unthinkable. But when employees are allowed to more fully express themselves in their workspace, it can make a big difference to their wellbeing, and to their work. “The average person will spend a third of their life at work, and if you’re made to leave your personality at the door, that’s going to have a huge impact on your mental health, your identity and your self-confidence,” says Jessica Andrews, founder of branding consultancy Rabbit & Other Stories. “In turn, your motivation, your productivity, and your results will suffer; and for a company, that’s not good news.” So what else do the experts have to say about adding a degree of personalisation in the workplace? Home away from home Bringing personal items into the office is sometimes frowned upon, but there is research that suggests that employees who can personalise their workspace are up to 25% more productive. “Even before Covid, workspaces were becoming more open-plan, in the hope of encouraging collaboration and innovation,” says leadership development consultant and coach Zoe Poulton, founder of Glass Ripple Consulting. “However, this has meant levels of privacy and ownership of space have reduced, causing higher levels of emotional exhaustion. “By bringing in personal items such as photos, ornaments, or a favourite mug, workers are provided with a greater sense of ownership and control over their space, which contributes to enhanced wellbeing.” And if you’re working from home, ditching the virtual Zoom background can also help you flex your personality. “These glimpses open up new conversations – and, often, new opportunities,” says Poulton. Dressed to skill With a majority of prospective job-hunters saying that a dress code negatively impacts how they see a business, it’s worth relaxing the rules. “Every time we pick an outfit to wear, we’re non-verbally communicating our personality to the world,” says Poulton. “These clothes reflect our moods and how we want to express ourselves.” “A number of studies show that greater authenticity is linked to higher levels of happiness,” adds Chris Preston, director of The Culture Builders. “Any company worth its salt should want to snap up confident, connected and contented people, because they bring with them a huge competitive and cultural advantage.” Highlight your uniqueness Share your ideas and perspectives, too – even when it feels daunting. “So often, we hold ourselves back from sharing our thoughts, in case we’re somehow ‘wrong’,” says Grace Temporal Sorabji, CEO and founder of Cultural Calculator. “For some, sharing what we believe can feel like a scary cliff to jump off, as though there will be some major consequences that follow, when in reality we give it too much weight – it’s simply a perspective being shared. Research has proven that the more psychological safety there is in an organisation to speak up, the higher the business performance is. This can’t happen without each of us being willing to share our knowledge, intuition, and unique perspective.” Advertisement Rock around the clock Even though many of us are moving away from an “always-on” culture, work inevitably leaks into our day beyond office hours. “We talk a lot about the need for people to be their authentic selves at work, but it’s not just about the nine-to-five – it’s the getting dressed and thinking about your morning, the trip in, the trip home, and the unwinding,” says Preston. Crossover items such as the laptop or car employees use both in and out of office hours can also help them express themselves, he says. “If we feel like our company car is aligned to our personality, for example, we feel more aligned to the organisation. Driving to work in a vehicle you love is a big thing, and sees you stepping into work in a positive mood.” Space to be Specialised areas where furniture, tech and tools can be adapted to suit users’ needs and personalities give employees a chance to express themselves, as well as supporting diversity and inclusivity. And according to workplace wellbeing consultant Kirsty Hayward, these “hack spaces” can also give employers an insight into how their people want to work. “If you’re an employer, you want to be able to promote diversity of choice and employee independence,” says Hayward. “Give your staff the opportunity to decide how to work with the tools, spaces and environment you can provide them with, and the result will be productive and engaged employees – and there’s a strong correlation between empowerment and performance.” The right company car can improve how you do business. Russia has hit out at comments from the Pope that some minority groups of soldiers have behaved worse than others in the invasion of Ukraine. The "cruellest" troops are generally Chechens and Buryats, Pope Francis told a US magazine. He also labelled the Holodomor famine caused by the Kremlin in Ukraine in the 1930s a genocide. Russia called the remarks a "perversion", and said national groups were "one family". In an interview with America, a Jesuit magazine, Pope Francis was asked about his apparent reluctance to directly condemn Russia for the war. In response he said he received "much information about the cruelty of the troops". "Generally, the cruellest are perhaps those who are of Russia but are not of the Russian tradition, such as the Chechens, the Buryats and so on," he said. The Pope added that "the one who invades is the Russian state". Chechens, an ethnic group originating in Chechnya, in the south-west of Russia, are mostly Muslim. Buryats, a Mongol ethnic group indigenous to Buryatia, in eastern Siberia, traditionally follow Buddhist and shamanic belief systems. Russia contains many republics with distinct ethnic and religious groups. The majority religion is Orthodox Christianity. Putin tells soldiers' mothers he shares their pain Chechen leader vows to send teenage sons to front line The Pope said he had spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky several times by phone, and communicated with Russian President Vladimir Putin through the ambassador to the Holy See. In apparent response to accusations of not directly condemning President Putin, he said: "Sometimes I try not to specify so as not to offend and rather condemn in general, although it is well known whom I am condemning. It is not necessary that I put a name and surname." Later in the interview the Pope added: "Everyone knows my stance, with Putin or without Putin, without naming him." Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the comments, state-controlled news outlet RT reports. "This is no longer Russophobia, it's a perversion on a level I can't even name," she said. "We are one family with Buryats, Chechens and other representatives of our multinational and multi-confessional country," Ms Zakharova later wrote on Telegram. Pope Francis also said he wanted to mark the anniversary of the Holodomor, calling it a genocide and a "historical antecedent" of the current conflict. As many as four million Ukrainians died in this famine in 1932-33, caused by the collectivisation of farms under Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. After every WWDC event, Apple shares the keynote video on YouTube. However, users also share their take on the keynote on YouTube. According to the latest, Apple has issued multiple takedown strikes for a po[CENSORED]r channel on YouTube. Scroll down to read more details on the subject. Prominent YouTube Channel "Apple WWDC Videos" Issued Multiple Takedown Strikes As mentioned earlier, Apple has issued multiple takedown requests for a po[CENSORED]r YouTube channel that archived past WWDC videos. Brendan Shanks, owner of the channel "Apple WWDC Videos" shared the news on Twitter, highlighting screenshots of DMCA notices sent by YouTube. The YouTube channel contains hundreds of videos from WWDC keynotes, and it was quite po[CENSORED]r amongst fans. YouTube channels usually share short clips from the WWDC events that are relevant to their audience. Searching for the same information on Apple's channel would take a lot of time as it would pose to be quite cumbersome to locate the exact information. Nonetheless, Apple provides a catalog of older keynotes on Apple Podcasts that you can watch. However, you can only go as far as the original iPhone's launch in 2007. In contrast, Shanks' channel contained "20-year-old WWDC videos". As for Shank, he will upload the original video files from his "Apple WWDC Videos" YouTube channel to the Internet Archive. This is all there is to it, folks. We will share more details on the subject as soon as further information is available. Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below. link: https://wccftech.com/apple-issues-multiple-takedown-strikes-for-po[CENSORED]r-apple-wwdc-videos-youtube-channel/

ASUS's next-gen ROG Zephyrus M16 & M14 laptops that will feature a combination of powerful AMD CPUs & NVIDIA GPUs have been pictured. ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 and G14 laptops leaked, NVIDIA RTX 40 mobile series expected, and AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS, respectively The unreleased ASUS ROG Zephyrus laptops have recently passed certification from the RRA or the Korean National Radio Research Agency. The only information is from the certification listing, which is reprinted below: The model described above in the table is the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 gaming laptop. The laptop is a refresh of the company's previous M15 gaming laptop brand, with a slightly larger display and a smaller form factor. The new ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 gaming laptop will supply users with a 2560 x 1600 px (16:10 aspect ratio) QHD display panel. The refresh rate is clocked at 165 Hz, an IPS panel with Pantone factory calibration. Since this model is launching in 2023, it is likely that it would use an Intel Raptor Lake and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series combination, however, the room is also open if ASUS wants to go the AMD route. The camera has been updated from the previous M16 laptop, another noticeable change for the gaming laptop. However, the computer has a troubled past with reviewers. The last review for the older M16 variant stated that the exhaust would direct heat to the bottom screen bezel, and it is concerned that the company has not changed the design enough that this will not be a continued issue. The other laptop shown between the two hardware leakers on Twitter was the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 model. Harukaze5719 zoomed in on the specification list on the laptop, but it was somewhat difficult to read most of the text. One of the raised questions at the time was whether the AMD processor onboard would be the AMD Ryzen 7 7745 or 7735 HS chip. The label appears to be "7735," which would make it a Rembrandt-R laptop with an unknown Micron RAM and Samsung VRAM. However, this laptop seems more suitable to utilize the Dragon Range chips since it will be aiming at the gaming segment. link: https://wccftech.com/asus-next-gen-rog-zephyrus-m16-g14-laptops-pictured-amd-ryzen-7000-cpu-possible-nvidia-rtx-40-gpus/

You can experience Dolby Vision gaming and Dolby Atmos on Xbox Series X|S, but which games support both of these technologies? Dolby Atmos support has been on the block since Xbox One debuted back in 2017, and it's now arrived on Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. A licence is required to use the spatial audio tech on headphones, but it’s free to use on soundbars and speakers. Some headphones come with a free license, like the Xbox Wireless Headset. Spatial audio, especially, is easy to come by this time of year. As Cyber Monday 2022 sales kick off on and around November 28, it's a great time to check out some fantastic deals on the best gaming headsets and Cyber Monday Xbox deals in general. Keep updated with all the best deals with our Cyber Monday Live Blog. Dolby Vision gaming requires a compatible display but is also accessible to those who can enable it. Currently, however, not every TV that supports Dolby Vision gaming can output at 120Hz, but Microsoft and Dolby are working closely with TV manufacturers to update more displays. That'll take place via a firmware update in the future, which previously happened with the LG CX. If you’re looking to make the most out of this, make sure you check how to enable 120Hz on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S first. Otherwise, check out the full list below for every Xbox Series X|S game with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support. The steel-plated skeleton will be joining Apex Mobile's legend lineup when the Underworld update goes live tomorrow evening. Apex Legends Mobile's third season is approaching the halfway mark, and developer Respawn Entertainment just announced Season 3.5's launch date and its debut legend, Revenant. Just like Ash, Revenant is a familiar faceplate to console and PC players, and the spooky simulacrum will make his transition to mobile when Apex Legends Mobile's mid-season update drops tomorrow, November 28. The Season 3.5 update (officially titled Underworld) will feature a treasure trove of new cosmetics and limited-time events, in addition to a spine-chilling new battle pass and, or course, Revenant himself. But that's not all fans of the mobile game have to look forward to this season--the trailer revealed a new LTM and some upcoming events that will allow players to unlock loads of festive goodies. Here's everything we know about Season 3.5 so far. World's Edge is back The trailer announced that players will once again be able to access their favorite frozen hellscape, with the World's Edge map set to re-enter map rotation once the Underworld update goes live. A new battle pass awaits The Underworld battle pass features the standard 50 levels of cosmetic items and other rewards players have come to expect from the game. Cosmetics appear to have a holiday theme with a dark twist (think Nightmare-Before-Christmas-meets-Krampus) that perfectly fits both the festive holiday season and Underworld's undead debut legend. Revenant has arrived With Loba's addition to the squad, it was almost a guarantee that players would soon see Revenant added to the roster soon after her debut. The two legends utterly loathe each other, and Loba's only taking part in the Apex Games to avenge her family--a difficult goal to pursue without the object of her repulsion in the dropship. Revenant's addition to the roster confirms Respawn's claim that players won't be seeing any mobile-exclusive legends like Fade and Rhapsody in Season 3. LTMs are escalating The Underworld update will introduce a brand-new limited-time mode called Airdrop Escalation. Little is currently known about this new LTM (the trailer offers no description), but it appears that Care Packages stocked with fully-kitted weapons will play a part. The trailer depicts a Care Package landing as a player runs up to it, looting a deadly Eternal-tier L-STAR. That's all we know about the new update for now, but keep an eye out for future developments, as patch notes and Revenant's mobile-exclusive Perks will likely be unveiled soon. Until then, make sure you've finished up your Champions battle pass, along with any other current seasonal events--and don't forget to redeem those Champions Coins for loot in the Champions Store! Apex Legends Mobile Season 3.5: Underworld launches November 28 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET. Apex Legends Mobile is available for download on Android and iOS devices. link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/apex-legends-mobile-gets-revenant-as-next-playable-legend/1100-6509523/
