Fire and rescue workers attend a building hit by a missile in central Kyiv Ukraine's western city of Lviv is without power after a wave of Russian missiles pounded the country. Critical infrastructure in Kyiv was also targeted, and the city's officials said three people died in the attack. Across the border, Moldova also reported "massive" blackouts, although it has not been directly hit. Moscow has recently increased strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leaving half of the country's power grid in need of repair. Ukraine's national power grid operator has said the damage sustained by power generating facilities in recent weeks has been "colossal" and warned that Ukrainians could face long power outages over the winter months. Early on Wednesday, an air-raid alert was issued across Ukraine, followed by reports of explosions in a number of locations. Ukraine's air force said over 70 cruise missiles were launched by Moscow, with air defences intercepting 51 projectiles. Officials said five drones were also launched. But the attack has caused significant damage to infrastructure across the country. Ukraine's state energy company, Energoatom, said three nuclear reactors were taken offline due to the blackout. And in the capital Kyiv, parts of the city have been let without water and completely without power, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Lviv mayor, Andriy Sadovy, said children had been taken to shelters with their teachers - and urged parents not to pick them up until the alarm was over. Shortly before the fresh reports from Kyiv and Lviv, officials said southern Ukraine had come under renewed assault. The governor of the Mykolaiv region warned of "many rockets" arriving from the south and east. In the nearby Zaporizhzhia region, a newborn baby was killed when a missile hit a maternity unit, emergency services said. Russia was blamed for that attack, but is yet to comment on any of Wednesday's alleged strikes. Blackouts in Moldova More than half of Moldova was also left without electricity, deputy prime minister Andrei Spinu wrote on Twitter. He said the attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure has caused a "massive blackout" across Moldova. Within a few hours power was starting to be restored in the Moldovan capital Chisinau, a Reuters journalist reported. Moldova also experienced widespread power cuts as a result of strikes on Ukraine on 15 November, Mr Spinu said. Mobile networks were also badly affected. Sergiu Tofilat, a local energy policy analyst, told Moldova's TV8 channel that the country's energy supplies relied on a power line that passed through Transnistria, a breakaway Russian-controlled territory in Moldova bordering Ukraine, before reaching the capital Chisinau. "When there are bombings in Ukraine, this line is automatically disconnected and we are left without electricity," he was quoted as saying. In response to the outages, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said Russia had "left Moldova in the dark". "Russia's war in Ukraine kills people, destroys residential blocks and energy infrastructure with missiles..." she wrote on Facebook. "But the electricity supply can be restored. We will solve the technical problems and we will have light again. All state institutions are working in this direction." link: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-63729427

From the funnel web spider to the brown recluse, here are some of the deadliest spiders on Earth. Spiders are some of the most successful arthropods on the planet, having colonized every continent except Antarctica. Not all of these eight-legged arachnids are venomous, but some can be deadly to humans. From the notorious black widow to the ultra-deadly funnel web spider, here are some of the deadliest spiders on Earth. As their name suggests, brown recluse spiders (Loxosceles reclusa) have a shy nature and tend to hide away in dark, sheltered places. However, the brown recluse spider will bite if they feel threatened, and their bites can be deadly. They are usually found in the south and central United States, spanning southeastern Nebraska to southwestern Ohio, south to northwestern Georgia and into Texas. The brown recluse spider can be dangerous to people because their venom contains a toxin that can cause skin necrosis (rotting). For the most part, symptoms, such as burning and itching at the bite site, as well as fever and nausea, develop a few hours after a bite. In extreme cases, the venom can lead to serious reactions or even death, especially to more vulnerable groups such as young children and the elderly. Even arachnologists have a hard time identifying hobo spiders, as there are many similar looking spiders and because there is great variation within the species itself. (Image credit: CreativeNature_nl via Getty Images) Part of the family of spiders known as the funnel web spiders, the hobo spider (Eratigena agrestis, formerly Tegenaria agrestis) can be recognized by it's light to medium brown coloring and the multiple chevron patterns (v-shaped) on its abdomen pointing toward their head. They are often confused with the brown recluse spider (and vice versa), but the brown recluse is much more dangerous to humans. While hobo spiders have been known to bite if they feel threatened, there is much debate about how venomous they actually are. So much so that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has removed them from their venomous spiders list. However, it's still wise to be cautious as hobo spider bites result in swelling and redness around the area, and can have more severe effects in young children. link: https://www.livescience.com/deadliest-spiders

The performance version of Fiat’s 500 is back, this time with an electric powertrain good for 153 horsepower and zero to 62 mph in 7.0 seconds. The performance version of the Fiat 500e has been revealed, with the Abarth model going electric for the first time. 153 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque are fed to the front wheels, shooting the tiny hatch to 62 mph in 7.0 seconds. The Abarth 500e also comes with a Sound Generator that produces fake engine noises, but the electric hatchback likely won't be sold in the United States. At the Los Angeles auto show earlier this month, Fiat announced that it will finally bring the electric 500e, which has been on sale in Europe since 2020, to the United States for 2024. In fact, Fiat CEO Olivier François told Car and Driver that the automaker's U.S. lineup will consist solely of the 500e, with the 500X SUV not receiving a new generation. Now parent company Stellantis has revealed a new Abarth 500e, bringing zippy performance to the tiny city car, although its unclear if the Abarth version will ever reach American shores. A single electric motor powers the front wheels of the Abarth 500e, producing 153 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque. That's a decent increase over the standard 500e, which emits 117 horsepower and, in the U.S.-spec car, 162 pound-feet of torque. Abarth claims the hot hatch can reach 62 mph in 7.0 seconds, and Abarth says the electric car was 1.0 second quicker around the Misto Alfa test track at Balocco than the gas-powered Abarth 695 based on the previous 500. The Abarth uses the same lithium-ion battery as the standard 500e, which has a usable capacity of 37.3 kWh, and while no range figure was quoted, the Abarth likely can't travel as far as its less powerful counterpart. The Abarth 500e has three drive modes—Turismo, Scorpion Street, and Scorpion Track. Turismo smooths out power delivery and limits output to 134 hp and 162 pound-feet of torque, while the Scorpion modes unlock the full power and escalate the 500e’s performance. One-pedal driving is available in Turismo and Scorpion Street, and Abarth says that with a maximum charging rate of 85 kW, the 500e can reach 80 percent in 35 minutes. Abarth also touts an "immersive sound experience" for the electric hatch—turning the car on produces a simulated guitar sound, and when you go over 12 mph for the first time after startup, a "strumming guitar" plays. A Sound Generator can also be turned on to reproduce the noise of an Abarth gas engine. Stylistically, not much has changed compared to the standard 500e, with the 500 badging swapped out for a bold "Abarth" font and the scorpion-bearing badge on the nose. The front and rear bumpers have undergone minor revisions, a new "electrified" scorpion logo sits behind the doors, and there is a new wheel design. The version seen here is the fully loaded Scorpionissima launch edition, which will be limited to 1949 units and comes in either Acid Green or Poison Blue. It brings unique side graphics and 18-inch diamond-cut wheels as well as embossed seats, unique steel pedals, and an Alcantara dashboard. link: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a42043164/abarth-500e-revealed-details/

I was longing to comfort a distraught child. And then I thought: why am I waiting for someone to give me permission? Iwas terribly shy as a child; almost mute at school and even university. I couldn’t bear to be noticed and if I spoke people would notice me, so I spoke as little as possible. I learned to pretend to be less shy as I grew older but, even in my 30s, I was still horribly self-conscious. I’d often desperately want to say or do something but if that action would cause people to realise I existed, I would feel almost paralysed with anxiety, physically unable to speak or move. It was a hot summer’s day about four years ago. I was with my partner and our toddler in a huge playground, a fantastic playground, the biggest we’d ever seen; there was even a miniature train you could ride on. We spotted some friends who just happened to be holidaying in the same place, which was a lovely surprise. It was sunny, there were loads of people: there was a fun, almost fairground atmosphere. I noticed the two little girls almost as soon as we entered the playground. The oldest was maybe 10 years old and was bossing around her sister (I assumed), who looked about seven. They were both splashed with what looked like green paint. They were on their own, no parents nearby. I lost sight of them but after a while they came to play near where we were. I was very aware of them behind us, of how impatient the eldest was with her sister. I was facing away from them when our friends gasped; the eldest had slapped her sister. She pulled the younger girl away from us but couldn’t go far, as her sister threw herself on to the ground screaming and crying and refusing to get up. We stood in our little group and watched them. I was longing to comfort her but felt unable. Then I thought: what am I waiting for? Why am I waiting for someone to give me permission to do what I feel is right? Why don’t we do something instead of standing around tutting disapprovingly? I went over to the little girl and held out my hand. I intended to help her up and find her parents with her, but instead she pulled me down into a tight hug and wouldn’t let me go. It sounds melodramatic to say I felt a psychic bond with her, but I did. I instantly felt her emotions flood through me; the grief and loneliness of being criticised and belittled. Huge emotions that were overwhelming for a small child. We knelt on the ground hugging tightly for what felt like a long time; at one point I tried to move away but she wouldn’t let me go. We hadn’t said a word to each other but were sobbing in each other’s arms. I felt the deepest connection I’d ever felt. The older girl had run off, and reappeared with a man I took to be their father. She pointed at me accusingly. He was a big bloke. Tall, muscled, tattooed. It occurred to me that he would probably be angry at a stranger hugging his child and might shout at me or even hit me. The thought obviously occurred to my partner and friends too: they came over as if to protect me. “The kid was upset,” they explained to the massive bloke. None of us were physically imposing or very tall, and I’m only 5ft 2in: even the fridge is taller than I am. I decided that it didn’t matter if he did hit me. At that moment, the only thing that mattered in the world was comforting the little girl in my arms. I knew that if the man said: “We don’t want her, will you adopt her?” I would have said “Yes” without hesitation, no matter what my family felt about it. The man wasn’t angry. He just nodded and held his arms out to his child. She calmed down, and I could feel that she wasn’t at all afraid of him. We disengaged slowly and she went to him willingly. He picked her up and she wound her arms around his neck. He carried her away and the sister followed them. I wondered if the older girl would be in trouble with the dad, and what the mum was like. I watched them disappear into the crowd, then rushed to the public loo to wash the green paint off my arms and cry my heart out. That day, I learned that I can speak, and if I can’t speak, I can take action, which is often easier. I still find speaking difficult and exhausting. But now I know that if I need to, I can. I no longer need to wait for “permission” (from what? From whom?) to be granted. I can give myself permission. I would love to see the little girl again – but I wouldn’t recognise her, unless she was covered in green paint. It was just an ordinary day at the playground but it was, and still is, four years later, the most profound moment of my life. link: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/23/a-moment-that-changed-me-i-hugged-a-crying-girl-in-a-playground-and-overcame-my-paralysing-anxiety

CHESAPEAKE, Virginia – Flags across Virginia were flying at half staff Wednesday, hours after a store manager opened fire at a Walmart in Chesapeake, killing six people as a wave of deadly gun violence continued to sweep the nation. The first 911 call came in at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday, and the first officers arrived two minutes later, Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky said Wednesday. Police spokesman Leo Kosinski said several people were wounded or hiding in the store and that rescue and tactical teams swept through providing "life-saving measures." The assailant was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a handgun was recovered at the scene, Solesky said. The shooter's home was being searched but his identity was not released pending notification of family, the chief said. "You hope a day like this never comes, but we train for it, we practice, we talk about it, we learn lessons," City Manager Chris Price said at the briefing. "You hope that those lessons will never have to be put to use." MASS KILLING DATABASE:Revealing trends, details and anguish of every US event since 2006 'He literally just started shooting' Employee Briana Tyler told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that workers had gathered in the store’s break room at the start of a shift when the man, a manager, walked in and without saying a word started firing. "He literally just started shooting throughout the entire break room," she said. "And I watched multiple people just drop down to the floor, whether they were trying to duck for cover or they were hit. ... He looked directly at me but luckily he missed my head by like an inch or two." Authorities said four people were hospitalized, their conditions weren’t immediately available. Biden, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin offer support and sympathies President Joe Biden issue a statement expressing gratitude to the first responders and pledging support and assistance. He referenced a gun reform law passed earlier this year and urged "greater action" to curb gun violence. "Because of yet another horrific and senseless act of violence, there are now even more tables across the country that will have empty seats this Thanksgiving," the statement said. "There are now more families who know the worst kind of loss and pain imaginable." The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was assisting with the investigation. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who ordered flags flown at half staff through Sunday, said he was making state resources available. "Our hearts break with the community of Chesapeake this morning," he said. "Heinous acts of violence have no place in our communities." Mayor Rick W. West, in a statement posted on Twitter, also lauded the efforts of first responders. “I am devastated by the senseless act of violence that took place late last night in our city,” West tweeted. “Chesapeake is a tightknit community and we are all shaken by this news.” Anxiety and rumors spread in the hours after the attack. At 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the city posted a notice on Twitter warning that "rumors of an active shooter at Target in Chesapeake are UNTRUE. Please help us control rumors by only sharing information from this account." Mary Glisson, 73, a housewife from nearby Great Bridge, was shopping in the area. Glisson, who said she sometimes stops at Walmart, heard about the shooting on the news. link: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/11/22/chesapeake-virginia-walmart-shooting-authorities/10761233002/

The Spanish media emphasized Croatia’s failure to break Morocco’s strong defensive line during today’s game. Rabat - Morocco’s performance during its first match at the World Cup stage group against 2018 finalist Croatia made headlines in Spanish media. Several Spanish news outlets highlighted Morocco’s strong performance during today’s match, which made runners-up in 2018 Croatia fail to defeat the Atlas Lions’ defense and tactics. Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo applauded Morocco’s “tremendous” effort during its game against Croatia. For the news outlet, the match at one point could have been something more but nevertheless, it was still a good game, noting that both teams were awarded one point each at the end of the match. “Croatia got stuck before a physical, fast, and intense football team that was capable of blocking all the paths for Luka Modric and even disturb[ing] the European defense on more than one occasion.” The news outlet described the match as “entertaining” despite its end without a goal scored. Morocco’s Atlas Lions showed a “lot of passion” despite the nervousness, Mundo Deportivo said, stressing the role of Moroccan football fans who represented the vast majority in the stadium. “The final minutes showed an impotent European team that could not get past the rival defensive line,” the news outlet concluded, stressing that the draw Morocco secured against Croatia could be something more.” Spanish news outlet Marca echoed Mundo Deportivo’s sentiment on the match, emphasizing that the Atlas Lions “nullified” Croatia’s “talent” during today’s game. Marca emphasized that Morocco made sure to make the finalists in the 2018 World Cup to understand that winning the match cannot be done “without rolling up their sleeves.” The news outlet also applauded Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou for his spectacular performance, standing against strong attempts by the rival team. “While Croatia was getting desperate as the minutes passed, Bounou would continue to do his thing,” Marca said while applauding his goalkeeping skills. The Spanish sports news outlet also highlighted the harmony between football players. “Achraf [Hakimi] and [Hakim] Ziyech for their part showed that their connection can destroy anyone,” Marca said. The Atlas Lions are in Group F during the World Cup’s stage group. On November 27, Morocco will face Belgium’s “Red Devils.” Morocco’s game against Canada will take place on December 1. link: https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/11/352556/world-cup-spanish-media-celebrate-moroccos-performance-against-croatia

Temperatures are predicted to plummet as low as -20C in Ukraine this winter By George Wright in London and Catherine Byaruhanga in Kyiv BBC News The lives of millions will be under threat in Ukraine this winter, the World Health Organization has said. Half of Ukraine's energy infrastructure is either damaged or destroyed, and 10 million are currently without power, said Dr Hans Henri P Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe. Temperatures are predicted to plummet as low as -20C (-4F) in some areas. The WHO has documented 703 attacks on health infrastructure since Russia's invasion began. Last week, Russia hit more energy installations and civilian buildings in one of its heaviest aerial bombardments of the war. This has been a recent Russian tactic following setbacks on the battlefield, and its impact is starting to be felt more acutely as winter sets in. "Put simply, this winter will be about survival," Dr Kluge told a news conference in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. Ukraine's health system is "facing its darkest days in the war so far", and the best solution is for the conflict to end, he added. Dr Kluge said hundreds of hospitals and healthcare facilities were "no longer fully operational, lacking fuel, water and electricity to meet basic needs" as a result of attacks. The WHO defines an attack as involving violence as well as threatened violence against hospitals, ambulance and medical supplies. Maternity wards need incubators, blood banks need refrigerators and intensive care beds need ventilators, Dr Kluge said, adding that "all require energy". Up to three million people could flee their homes in search of warmth and safety, the WHO says. Dr Kluge said he was "very concerned" for 17,000 HIV patients in Donetsk "who may soon run out of critical antiretroviral drugs that help keep them alive". Much of Donetsk is under Russian control and Dr Kluge said he was "urgently calling for the creation of a humanitarian health corridor into all newly regained and occupied areas". There are also concerns about Covid cases rising. "With low basic vaccination rates - let alone boosters - millions of Ukrainians have waning or no immunity to Covid," Dr Kluge said. The warnings come as snow has fallen across Ukraine and temperatures have dropped below freezing. In Kyiv, snow covers walkways, empty playgrounds and park benches. Few people are on the streets. Despite the snow, winter has not officially started and temperatures are likely to drop much further. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which used to produce more than 25% of Ukraine's electricity, no longer generates power. There was renewed shelling at the plant over the weekend. The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, condemned the attacks, saying it was another "close call" at Europe's biggest nuclear power plant. IAEA experts toured the site on Monday, and the agency said they found widespread damage, but that there were no immediate nuclear safety or security concerns. Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of carrying out the attacks. Elsewhere in the war, Ukrainian prosecutors have given details of what they have found in four alleged torture chambers in Kherson after Russian troops left the southern city. They say people were "brutally tortured", and that batons, bullets and an electrocution device were discovered. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-63708223

In a viral Instagram video, pathologists remove a dead 5-foot alligator from the body of an 18-foot Burmese python. This screen grab from a viral Instagram video shows a 5-foot alligator corpse shortly after being pulled out from the stomach of an 18-foot Burmese python. (Image credit: Rosie Moore/@rosiekmoore) (opens in new tab) A team of veterinary pathologists recently extracted a 5-foot-long (1.5 meters) alligator corpse from the body of an 18-foot (5.5 m) Burmese python that was euthanized in Florida. The necropsy, or animal autopsy, was captured in a jaw-dropping video and recently went viral on Instagram. The chunky python was the same length as Florida's largest-ever Burmese python (Python bivittatus), which was caught and killed in June. That individual weighed around 215 pounds (97 kilograms), but the newly-dissected python was likely even heavier at the time of death, considering its massive final meal. A group of biologists discovered the alligator-stuffed snake in Everglades National Park. The scientists were surveying invasive plant species when they came across the enormous serpent, which is also invasive to Florida. The researchers swiftly euthanized the snake in accordance with local wildlife guidelines and sent it to a Florida-based laboratory for a necropsy. (As Burmese pythons are an invasive species and threaten local wildlife, people may capture or kill them humanely year-round in certain parts of south Florida without requiring a hunting permit or license to do so, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission(opens in new tab).) Rosie Moore, a Florida-based geoscientist who also studies invasive herpetofauna — reptiles and amphibians — and was part of the necropsy team, posted a video of the gory operation on her Instagram(opens in new tab) account on Nov. 1. In the video, the pathologists cut open the snake's skin and then its stomach before sliding the dead gator out of its slimy pink tomb. At the time of publication, the video has been viewed more than 16.8 million times and had around 395,000 likes. link: https://www.livescience.com/alligator-removed-from-dead-python

The Jeep Compass will get a new engine for 2023, a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four to replace the old 2.4-liter four-cylinder. It makes 270 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque, a big boost compared with the old engine's 177 hp. The 2023 Compass starts at $31,590 for the Sport and ranges up to $40,340 for the High Altitude. Jeep is preparing to bump the Compass SUV's power output with a new engine for 2023. According to a document we found on the EPA's website, the 2023 Compass will have the same 270-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four found in the upcoming 2023 Dodge Hornet. (This engine was also slated to be in the Alfa Romeo Tonale, but now that model will reportedly be offered only with a plug-in-hybrid setup in the U.S.) The 2.0-liter's 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque are a huge bump over the Compass' previous engine, a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter inline-four with 177 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, and the previous front-wheel-drive model has been dropped. MORE ON THE COMPASS Pricing for the 2023 Compass starts at $31,590, which is just $1210 more than the equivalent 2022 model—not a bad deal considering the new powertrain. The off-road-oriented Trailhawk model starts at $37,340 and the loaded High Altitude is $40,340. Jeep has yet to release official details about the 2023 Compass, so we don't know if there are any other significant changes in store. It did receive a facelift for 2022 that included refreshed styling and a new infotainment screen. We've reached out to Jeep for comment and will update this post as more info becomes available. link: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a42024682/2023-jeep-compass-new-engine/

At the intersection of tight budgets and the decluttering boom sits the solution for a lower-cost, lower-waste Christmas. But please, no snatching Christmas is fast approaching, but you could be forgiven for wanting to slow down your purchases. With the rise of the mindful, minimal-waste consumer, many are looking for gift-giving options that don’t cost the earth. Enter, the pre-Christmas stuff swap. At a stuff swap, one person’s trash is another’s stocking stuffer. Pre-loved clothes, toys and books are fair game, provided they’re in good, regiftable condition. The Clothing Exchange, which runs swap events across Australia, has seen a surge in demand this year. “It’s absolutely exploded,” says national coordinator Kirsten Fredericks. Before the pandemic, it was a bumper year if they hosted 10 swap events; in 2022, they’ve run more than double that amount. And swappers aren’t just browsing for themselves – they’re seeking gifts for friends and family. Sign up for the fun stuff with our rundown of must-reads, pop culture and tips for the weekend, every Saturday morning As with many social situations, there are unwritten rules, guidelines and etiquette that go with a stuff-swap. Last year, I hosted my own stuff swap in the lead-up to Christmas and so, based on that event and with some expert advice, here are the golden rules to making your stuff-swap a success. Make a date Compare calendars with your keenest friends to ensure you have a core group of swappers. Aim for November, or early December, as people are less busy, and less likely to have started shopping. If you have children, make sure you hold it after their bedtime (or at least away from their watchful gazes). \ When it comes to the invitation list, don’t worry if your guests don’t know each other. I ended up with about 20 friends from different social circles, but their mutual swapping enthusiasm meant they got along wonderfully. Different types of glasses require different washing methods – or just opt for easy, universal glassware ‘Leave it until the morning after’: how to properly wash wine glasses Read more Prepare (or pre-buy) some light refreshments, or you can ask guests to contribute. On the day, make sure you clear your tables of your incidental household items (in case your favourite coasters are mistaken as swap-fodder). Then let the fun begin. My friend Amy remembers the joy and conviviality of my swap. “The house turned into an op shop, it was amazing!” She also recalls an “atmosphere of generosity” – there was no snatching. In fact, guests took to offering around items before claiming them. Make the rules fair There are two goals: to purge unwanted gift-worthy items, and to acquire gift-worthy items. It’s about quality, not quantity. link:" https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/22/the-house-turned-into-an-op-shop-how-to-host-a-pre-christmas-stuff-swap

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The man suspected of fatally shooting five people and injuring more than a dozen others at an LGBTQ nightclub is facing murder and hate crime charges, court records show. Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, is being held without bond and may be charged with five counts of murder and five counts of committing a bias-motivated crime causing bodily injury, though those charges are preliminary and haven't been filed yet. Authorities on Monday were searching for a motive after the deadly rampage left the community in mourning. The Colorado Springs Police Department updated Monday the number of people injured in the attack, confirming the five fatalities and saying 17 others sustained gunshot wounds, another person was hurt but not by a gunshot, and another person "was a victim with no visible injuries.'' The department asked anyone who was a victim or has information about the attack to contact the FBI. The two patrons who took down the gunman before he could cause any further harm were identified at an afternoon news conference as Thomas James and Richard Fierro. Mayor John Suthers called them "heroes'' and said he was amazed by the humility demonstrated by Fierro, an Army veteran who merely told him, "I was trying to protect my family.'' El Paso County District Attorney Michael Allen said the suspect remains hospitalized and will likely make his first court appearance via video in the next few days. The Associated Press reported the shooter used an AR-15-style semiautomatic weapon and that a handgun and additional ammunition magazines also were found at the crime scene. Aldrich was arrested within minutes of police arriving at Club Q shortly after midnight Saturday, after the patrons tackled him. Suthers told NBC's "Today" show that the attack "has all the trappings of a hate crime,'' then emphasized at the news conference, "We all want to ensure that our community is not defined by this tragedy but by our response to it.'' WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE VICTIMS: From a 'master of silly business' to a 'good listener' HOW TO HELP CLUB Q VICTIMS:LGBTQ resources and more Hero's daughter broke knee, her boyfriend was killed in assault The family of a man hailed as one of the heroes who subdued the shooter sustained several injuries and endured a major loss in the assault, according a posting on the Facebook page of the brewery they own. Jessica Fierro said her husband Richard Fierro — identified by authorities as one of the two persons who confronted the alleged gunman — said their daughter's boyfriend, Raymond Green, was killed in the barrage. Daughter Kassy broke a knee scrambling for cover, Richard injured his hands and legs, their best friends were hit by multiple shots and she herself was bruised during the chaotic moments at Club Q late Saturday, Jessica Fierro said. "NO ONE should ever have to witness bloodshed like this,'' she said. Richard Fierro, who served four tours of duty as an Army officer in Iraq and Afghanistan, told the New York Times he "went into combat mode'' in wresting a handgun away from the attacker and pummeling him with it. “I just know I have to kill this guy before he kills us,” he told the newspaper. CLUB Q HERO: Former Army soldier went into hero mode to subdue shooter at Colorado Springs LGBTQ nightclub Suspect's 2021 arrest examined Authorities believe Aldrich, who is being treated for injuries, acted alone. In an interview with 9News, a television station in Denver, Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez said the suspect’s mother is not cooperating with law enforcement and the suspect was injured when two club patrons confronted him. In 2021, Aldrich was arrested after his mother reported that he threatened her with a homemade bomb and other weapons, police said. Though authorities at the time said no explosives were found, gun control advocates are asking why police didn’t try to trigger Colorado’s “red flag” law, which would have allowed authorities to seize the weapons his mother says he had. Allen said the state has "very restrictive sealing laws'' pertaining to cases that have been dismissed. There’s no public record that prosecutors charged Aldrich in that incident, so a red flag law would not apply. WHAT DOES 'B' IN LGBTQ MEAN? The difference between bisexuality and pansexuality. Relatives and friends identify, pay tribute to those killed in the shooting On Monday afternoon, authorities released the names of the five people killed. Before that, family members and friends have been coming forward with tributes, identifying all the victims. Daniel Aston, 28, was a bartender and entertainer at the club, where his parents would join in the cheers at his shows. Fellow bartender Derrick Rump was bubbly and a jokester, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported. The newspaper also said Raymond Green's death was confirmed by his mother. According to social media posts, he was at the club with his girlfriend celebrating a friend's birthday. Ashley Paugh was a wife and mother who loved the outdoors, her family said in a statement. A fifth victim, Kelly Loving, was a trans woman who turned 40 last week and moved from Memphis to Denver earlier in the year in hopes of finding a community that embraced her identity, her friend Natalee Bingham said. Sabrina Aston said her son Daniel enjoyed the club because it gave him a safe place to be himself and he liked helping the LGBTQ community. “We are in shock, we cried for a little bit, but then you go through this phase where you are just kind of numb, and I’m sure it will hit us again,” she said. “I keep thinking it’s a mistake, they made a mistake, and that he is really alive." He tried to explain to a USA TODAY reporter what had happened — the muzzle flashes, the gunshots, the screams of terror. On Facebook, Shelby had posted that he survived but two colleagues died. He opened his mouth to speak but tears began streaming down his face, past his nose ring. He huddled deeper into his grey hoodie as a friend comforted him. “I’m sorry. I can’t,” he said, walking away, sobbing. – Trevor Hughes COLORADO SPRINGS MASSACRE JOINS GROWING LIST OF LGBTQ HATE CRIMES IN AMERICA Authorities verified names, pronouns of victims instead of 'deadnaming' Colorado Springs police made a point of telling the media the preferred pronouns of the shooting victims, after verifying with their families. That was a welcome decision for Olivia Hunt, a policy director from the National Center for Transgender Equality. She was heartened police are using the names the victims go by, not what appears on their driver’s licenses or birth certificates. “It is refreshing to hear that they are taking the time to make sure they're known by the correct names and pronouns,” Hunt said. “Otherwise, it’s being even more disrespectful in death as they are by some in life.” The practice of referring to people by a name they don't want, especially in the transgender community, is called ''deadnaming,” according to Dr. Jason Lambrese, a psychiatrist at the Cleveland Clinic. link" https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/11/21/colorado-springs-nightclub-shooting-lgbtq-community/10745611002/

The tax treaty would support Morocco and Madagascar enhance the business climate and attract foreign investment. Rabat - Morocco, and Madagascar signed on Monday in Antananarivo a non-double taxation agreement to boost the two countries’ prospects of attracting foreign investment. Tax treaties, also known as double taxation treaties or DTAs, are an agreement between two countries or more aiming to avoid or mitigate double taxation on the same income of the same assets. The Morocco-Madagascar tax treaty was signed by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in Madagascar, Richard Rakotonirina, and Moroccan Ambassador to Madagascar, Mohammed Benjilany. In a statement, the Malagasy Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that the “convention not only prevents tax evasion between Madagascar and Morocco but above all strengthens economic and commercial exchanges and encourages investment by companies in both countries.” The treaty would contribute to the Madagascan government’s efforts to enhance the business climate and the legal framework for investment in the country, the statement explains. According to the Malagasy Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this agreement involves not only the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but also the Ministry of Economy and Finance, notably through the General Directorate of Taxes (DGT). Over the past months, Morocco’s government has introduced a number of tax reforms aiming to enhance the business climate in the country and support the economic rebound from the effects of adverse international conditions. In June, the government announced that it is considering cutting taxes on the country’s middle class in a bid to preserve the national purchasing power. In addition, the government announced that, as part of the 2023 budget, it is heading towards scrapping import taxes on some categories of imported medications, especially those used for the treatment of chronic diseases. link: https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2022/11/352514/morocco-madagascar-seal-taxation-treaty-to-stimulate-investment

OneXPlayer, the gaming side of One-Netbook, has announced the OneXPlayer 2, the latest handheld gaming console with Intel & AMD CPUs. The new handheld adds a significant feature to the system — the ability to undock the controls on each side of the device, similar to the Nintendo Switch series. OneXPlayer 2 just announced, set for sale on Black Friday with AMD Ryzen 7 6800U and Intel Raptor Lake Core i7 CPUs OneXPlayer has previously designed handhelds, utilizing the AMD Ryzen 5800U and Intel Core processors in a few different flavors and two different aesthetic designs. Today, the company launched the below video, signaling the newest handheld design next year. The newest series will begin launch on November 25, 2022, to coincide with the holidays, and will ship in the first quarter of 2023. The company has provided Wccftech with an exclusive specification sheet for the newest handheld, which we will discuss in more detail below. With the OneXPlayer Mini (AMD 5800U version) that we reviewed, one of the complaints was about weight. Several review outlets had similar complaints, and it appears that OneXPlayer heard this and made some adjustments to "lessen the load" for portable gamers. Adding detachable controllers to each side of the screen is the most significant change, allowing users to "possibly" prop the screen up or lay flat, lessening the weight on the gamer. The magnetic keyboard is not new to the system, nor is the orange and black colorway shown in the video, which has been a staple with OneXPlayer. Another change that may go unnoticed in some respects is the inclusion of the TF Card 4.0 support, which will allow users to use microSD card memory to add additional space. The company has not specified the limits of storage space that can be used at this time. OneXPlayer and parent company One-Netbook has made it well known in advertising and design that it wants to meld work and play together with its different devices and mentioning "Game Console/Tablet/Laptop in One" in the video is not surprising. The One-Netbook A1 Pro was a mini laptop from the company that wanted users not to feel restricted from using it outside of work-related scenarios. However, in the specification list above, we see an alternate white and blue colorway with the newest announcement, so it appears that OneXPlayer is offering more than just customizable RGBs on the system to users. It also coincides with the colors chosen for the OneXFly system that was reported last month. Exclusive OneXPlayer 2 specification list. Image source: OneXPlayer. With the video, the company has further specified using the AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor and the Intel Raptor Lake mobile series. The Intel CPU is still unknown outside of the generation but will likely be the mobile i7 variant, which, as we reported before, did not offer increased cores from the previous Alder Lake mobile processors. OneXPlayer 2 will use the Radeon 680M GPU, which does not swerve from the previous AMD OneXPlayer Mini designs, as those two systems also utilize the same RDNA 2 architecture. OneXPlayer 2 uses an 8.4-inch 2.5K HD screen, which is the "sweet spot" for the company to design its handhelds. The memory has changed with the new successor system to use LPDDR5X above the LPDDR5 16GB memory. Still, it also has two listings on the specification sheet for RAM. If the company does confirm the use of LPDDR5X 16GB 6400 MHz frequency RAM modules, the system will most likely see an increase of close to 33% from the LPDDR5 memory used in previous generations. The resolution on the OneXPlayer 2 is increased to 2560 x 1600 px, with an sRGB color gamut of 100%. Pixel density is at 360 PPI with a brightness of 350 nits. The new handheld will offer an increased battery to 65.8 Wh, or 17100mAh, which is improved from the 48Wh provided on the most recent OneXPlayer Mini models. The video shows it is a "laptop-grade" battery, which will assist with getting users up and running again after use. Battery charging to 100% appears to be one hour since the specifications show that the new system will only take thirty minutes to reach 50% unless any power limitations are activated. Storage remains untouched from the OneXPlayer Mini AMD variants, as it will continue to use PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD, and it is unclear if they will update to Gen4 (x4) for the new system. Sound will now be offered through dual Harman Kardon-certified speakers, which may be a change from earlier generations of OneXPlayer systems. OneXPlayer was to launch the system on December 15, 2022, but has pushed the release to this Friday, also known as "Black Friday," and has informed us that the shipments will begin in the first quarter of 2023. Pricing is unknown, but the highest tier OneXPlayer Mini AMD Ryzen 6800U, with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of memory, is currently $1,316 on the company's website. link: https://wccftech.com/onexplayer-2-handheld-gaming-console-revealed-powered-by-a-choice-of-amd-ryzen-6000-or-intel-13th-gen-cpu/
