It may be a classic Cumbrian pub, but the Black Bull knows how to please a far more diverse crowd Jay Rayner Jay Rayner Sun 27 Nov 2022 06.00 GMT 690 The Black Bull Inn, 44 Main Street, Sedbergh LA10 5BL (015396 20264, theblackbullsedbergh.co.uk). Snacks £4.50-£6.50, sandwiches £6.95-£14.95, starters £9.95-£10.9, mains £18.50-£27.95, desserts £7.50-£8.50, wines from £28 It would be easy to misread the Black Bull at Sedbergh, located in that part of the Yorkshire Dales which offers a lofty wave to the Lake District. On a weekday lunchtime, the dining rooms fill quickly with parents in expensive waxed outerwear, grabbing lunch with their kids from the eponymous boarding school that dominates the town. A parade of burgers and sandwiches, precision stabbed with cocktail sticks, alongside soups with doorstep slabs of bread, troop out of the kitchen. And a pint please for the pink-cheeked, broad-chested chap with the Range Rover outside. This may be both the Black Bull’s literal and figurative bread and butter; the way that any multi-purpose country pub earns its crust and crumb. But take a look at the bar menu that those family groups are ordering from and another story begins to unfurl. Yes, it includes beef and horseradish sandwiches, and another filled with hot roast pork from nearby Mansergh Hall Farm, famous in the Lune Valley for its outdoor-reared pigs. So far, so shabby chic. But there are other less traditional things: a chickpea and lentil curry for example, or a pork and kimchi stew, or perhaps crispy Korean beef with shiso and sesame, offered as a snack. The same juggling act is there in the layout of the place. To the left of the front door is the bar area. It comes complete with beers from Fell Brewery, Lakes Brew Company and Timothy Taylor’s on tap. It might just satisfy furious members of the Pub Liberation Front who believe that the serving of nice things to eat in such places is a bloody disgrace. What’s wrong with a packet of scampi fries, eh? (Nothing, as it happens.) Immediately to the right is the casual dining area, with its curving booths in red leather. Beyond that is the restaurant proper, a more austere space with raw wood panelling hung in turn with large charcoal landscapes. It’s a veritable riot of greys and blacks. Advertisement It all begins to make sense when you know more about the heritage of head chef Nina Matsunaga who runs the pub with her partner, local-born James Ratcliffe. Matsunaga was raised by Japanese parents in Dusseldorf, and brings those influences to bear on the ingredients from the surrounding hills and meadows, but in a thrillingly loose-limbed, lets-be-having-you sort of way. If it tastes good, it’s on. Recently Matsunaga was named a finalist in the chef of the year category of the Be Inclusive Hospitality awards, which celebrate diversity in the restaurant industry. Having eaten her food, I can say she very much deserves to be celebrated. link: https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/nov/27/the-black-bull-inn-sedburgh-restaurant-review

Russia's attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure amount to genocide, a top Ukrainian official says. Strikes on key facilities targeted "the full Ukrainian nation" and were an effort to force Kyiv to surrender, the prosecutor-general told the BBC. The term genocide refers to an effort to wipe out a group of people. Russia denies having any such aim. Millions of people across Ukraine are facing power cuts in freezing weather, following sustained Russian attacks. Efforts are ongoing to reconnect homes cut off from electricity. Officials say Kherson has now been fully resupplied, following the city's recapture by Ukrainian troops earlier this month. Is Russia committing genocide in Ukraine? How much damage has Russia done to Ukrainian power supplies? Why millions of Ukrainians have no power as winter nears But people in 14 regions and the capital Kyiv remain under usage restrictions, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. Genocide involves "the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group", according to a definition provided by the UN Genocide Convention. Among the acts which may qualify are killing or causing serious harm to members of that group - or forcibly transferring its children elsewhere. In his BBC interview, Ukrainian Prosecutor-General Andriy Kostin said that, as well as the attacks on the energy grid, 11,000 Ukrainian children had been forcibly deported to Russia. Mr Kostin said his office was investigating reports of more than 49,000 war crimes and crimes of aggression since Russia launched its full-scale invasion on 24 February. The "same pattern of conduct" was being seen in every Ukrainian settlement occupied by Russian forces, he observed. A war crime constitutes a violation of the so-called "rules" of war set out by international treaties including the Geneva Conventions. Among other things, the Conventions sti[CENSORED]te that civilians must be protected. Russia has been repeatedly accused of breaking this rule. Shelling of residential buildings in Dnipro over the weekend left one person dead and 13 others injured, according to the governor of the wider region. Meanwhile, police said 32 civilians had been killed by strikes in Kherson since Russian troops left the southern city earlier this month. On Saturday, Ukraine marked the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor - a man-made famine that killed millions of people during Soviet rule. Of the war crimes seen since Russia invaded in February, Mr Kostin said 260 people had been indicted and 13 verdicts had been issued by Ukrainian courts. He called for the creation of an "international ad-hoc tribunal", supported by countries of "the whole civilised world" who opposed the invasion to hold Russia to account. In other developments, the head of Ukraine's state nuclear company Energoatom says there are signals Moscow's soldiers could be preparing to leave the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Both sides have accused each other of shelling the site - which was captured by the Russians in March - causing worries of a dangerous nuclear accident. But Petro Kotin cautioned that there was no evidence of any Russian departure yet. link" https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-63773654 \

Amitabh Bachchan alleged a violation of his publicity right as a celebrity. Bollywood legend and veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan filed a suit in Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights, image, voice or any of his characteristics without his consent, following which the court passed an interim ex-parte injunction in his favour. Eminent lawyer Harish Salve along with Ameet Naik and Pravin Anand, instructed by Anand and Naik, appeared for Bachchan in the High Court. The matter was heard before Justice Navin Chawla. Salve submitted that there is a complete misuse of Amitabh Bachchan's name, image, voice or any of his characteristics without his consent. "The misuse of his name, image and voice, especially by the mobile application developers, and people conducting lottery by illegally associating with KBC, book publishers, T-shirt vendors and various other businesses, has prompted Mr Amitabh Bachchan to approach the High Court, seeking a restraining order against the use of his personality traits," Salve said. The lawyer for Amitabh Bachchan also brought to the notice of the Delhi High Court that alleged infringers have illegally registered Bachchan's name as web-domain names such as www.amitabhbachchan.com and www.amitabhbachchan.in. Delhi High Court's Justice Navin Chawla noted that the plaintiff/Amitabh Bachchan alleges a violation of his publicity right as a celebrity. The court further noted that it could not seriously be disputed that the plaintiff is a very well-known personality and is aggrieved by the usage of his name, image voice etc without his consent. "I am of the opinion that the plaintiff has been able to make out prima facie case in his favour. The defendants appear to be using celebrity status without his authorization, permission and consent," the HC judge said. Justice Navin Chawla in his interim order passed an interim ex-parte injunction in favour of the Plaintiff/ Amitabh Bachchan and against the defendants. The plea stated that there is an infringement of the Plaintiff's personality through various manners like digital means, instant messaging apps, physical means etc. The digital means include several websites and mobile apps that have been found misappropriating the plaintiff's photographs and/or other characteristics, to create po[CENSORED]rity amongst the public and to entice members of the public to download such mobile apps. The instant messaging apps include several unscrupulous parties that have been found using Bachchan's photograph along with his name, and the representation of a TV Show Kaun Banega Crorepati (which is associated with Bachchan), to scam the public into believing that Kaun Banega Crorepati is offering lottery prizes to the members of the public. The physical means include the cases where dishonest traders physically affix the actor's images and posters on their places of business, on billboards or even on products that they engage in the manufacture and sale of, with the aim to unlawfully show a nexus/affiliation/sponsorship/association with the plaintiff, so as to boost their illegal profits. link: https://www.gadgets360.com/internet/news/amitabh-bachchan-delhi-high-court-interim-injunction-protection-personality-rights-voice-image-3555903

Lenovo has confirmed and leaked out two upcoming AMD Ryzen 7000 Non-X CPUs, the Ryzen 9 7900 & the Ryzen 7 7700. Lenovo Leaks AMD Ryzen 7000 Non-X CPUs Including Ryzen 9 7900 12-Core & Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core The AMD Ryzen 7000 Non-X CPU lineup is no mystery. We recently covered the alleged prices of three SKUs that will be making their way to the AM5 platform and it looks like Lenovo is further confirming through this leak that these chips are headed to OEM PCs & consumer desktops real soon. AMD has so far only introduced its "X" series SKUs in the Raphael "Zen 4" family. These parts aim towards enthusiasts and extreme gamers but like all generations that came before it, the Ryzen 7000 CPUs are bound to get Non-X parts. Although the company hasn't officially confirmed the release of any Non-X chips yet, we know that there are more chips coming to consumers soon in addition to the 3D V-Cache parts which are expected to be introduced at CES 2023. The AMD Ryzen 7000 Non-X 'Zen 4' CPUs will include a total of three variants. These include the Ryzen 9 7900, Ryzen 7 7700, and Ryzen 5 7600. The differences between these & the standard X chips are that these will feature a 65W TDP by default and slightly lower clock speeds. So let us begin with the specifications. AMD Ryzen 9 7900 - 12 Zen 4 Cores For Just $429 US The AMD Ryzen 9 7900 will feature 12 cores, 24 threads, and 76 MB of cache (64 MB L3 + 12 MB L3) and will feature a base clock of 3.6 GHz with a maximum clock speed of up to 5.4 GHz. The CPU will retail at $429 US which is a difference of $120 US versus the Ryzen 9 7900X. While the base clock remains to be seen, the boost clock sees a 200 MHz reduction but given the price point, this 12-core chip looks incredible & I can already see a lot of users upgrading to this sub-$500 US 12-Core Zen 4 chip. AMD Ryzen 7 7700 - 8 Core Gaming Champ Under $350 US Next up, we have the Ryzen 7 7700 which will feature 8 cores, 16 threads 40 MB of cache (32 MB L3 + 8 MB L3), and will feature a base clock of 3.6 GHz with a maximum clock speed of up to 5.3 GHz. The CPU will retail for $329 US which is a difference of $70 US versus the Ryzen 7 7700X which retails at $399 US. The Ryzen 7 7700 seems to be clocked just 100 MHz lower than the Ryzen 7 7700X which is impressive given its 65W power budget. The final TDP should fall around 90-100W given the 1.375x multiplier for the PPT. AMD Ryzen 5 7600 - Making AM5 Affordable For Entry-Level Builders Lastly, we have the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 which will feature 6 cores, 12 threads, 38 MB of cache (32 MB L3 + 6 MB L2) and will feature a maximum clock speed of up to 5.1 GHz. The CPU will hit retail at $229 US which is also $70 US lower than the Ryzen 5 7600X which retails at $299 US. The boost clock is 200 MHz lower than the 'X' chip. Based on the above: Ryzen 9 7900 12 Core- $120 US cheaper vs 7900X Ryzen 7 7700 8 Core- $70 US cheaper vs 7700X Ryzen 5 7600 6 Core - $70 US cheaper vs 7600X Overall, the chips sound like they will offer the bAMD Ryzen 7000 Raphael Desktop CPU Specs: est performance per dollar value on the AM5 platform and we will also be looking at cheaper A620 motherboards by the mid of 2023. link: https://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-9-7900-12-core-ryzen-7-7700-8-core-zen-4-non-x-cpus-confirmed-by-lenovo/

Breath of the Wild 2 is coming next year Breath of the Wild 2 is officially coming in 2023. Not only that, but we finally know what it's called—Tears of the Kingdom. So far, we've seen a couple of trailers, some gameplay, and heard many comments and tests from the games developers. By all accounts, it looks set to build upon the original, while trying some new ideas out. Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild so it understandably has huge shoes to fill. Being the Nintendo Switch’s biggest launch title and still widely considered one of the best Switch games ever – which is quite a feat given there’s no shortage of excellent Switch games – Breath of the Wild set the bar very high indeed. Time-mani[CENSORED]tion, sky-diving and brand new combat systems are all on the cards. Trailers released so far show a game that is more vertical than its predecessor, though there's certainly a lot that we don't know yet. Here's everything you need to know about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, including a look at trailers, and all the latest news and rumors. Breath of the Wild 2: cut to the chase What is it? The upcoming sequel to 2017's Breath of the Wild What can I play it on? Nintendo Switch When can I play it? May 12, 2023 Thanks to September 2022's Nintendo Direct presentation, we learned that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches on May 12, 2023. Unsurprisingly for a first-party Nintendo game, that'll be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch console family. We initially thought that Tears of the Kingdom would release sometime in 2022 but in March of that year Nintendo pushed the date into 2023, with series producer, Eiji Aonuma, telling fans it was out of a desire to "extend out development time a bit". TEARS OF THE KINGDOM TRAILERS Nintendo Direct September 2022 trailer We got a brief new look at Breath of the Wild 2 during the latest Nintendo Direct, only we learned it's officially called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While we didn't get a particularly in-depth look at gameplay, it appears to show seamless travel across Hyrule, alongside a new glider. You can watch that in full below: E3 2021 trailer We got our best look yet at Tears of the Kingdom during the E3 2021 Nintendo presentation, with a trailer showing off the vast, expansive world of Hyrule – expanded even further with navigation into the skies, despite the more dungeon-crawling feeling of the original 2019 teaser. There's some paragliding up in the clouds, along with more a freefall mechanic that seems ripped right out of Skyward Sword, and a new glove that looks to be taking the place of the Sheikah slate for Tears of the Kingdom. There's even a short clip of a splashed puddle... reverting in time? We're not entirely sure, but it's clear that some new mechanics will be introduced into the Zelda formula, while one of the first game's sentient boulder enemies (that's Stone Pebblit to you) is shown with a Bokoblin fort on its back for Tears of the Kingdom, suggesting even more dynamic interplay between the game's many enemies. Take a look below... Announcement trailer We got our very first glimpse of Tears of the Kingdom at E3 2019, with this spooky trailer that shows Zelda and Link exploring an underground chamber – with some mysterious runes, glowing hands, and a brand-new haircut that has set the internet on fire. Suffice it to say we're excited. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailer that first revealed the game is just 82 seconds long and there's no dialogue whatsoever, but there are some clues to be gathered from it. It features a torch-carrying Link and Zelda traversing a dark dungeon beneath Hyrule (no big surprise there). Spirit-like tendrils creep around the musty tomb they're exploring, with the pair riding a large elephant-like beast. Something shocks the pair, and then we cut to what appears to be the resurrection of some long-dead (and creepy looking) warrior. Could this be the return of Ganondorf? The video then cuts to a long shot of Hyrule Field, with Hyrule Castle in the distance. There's a tremor, the castle is smothered with dust... and that's the end. The clip finishes with a message that reads: "The sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in development." We wouldn't usually expect so much animation to be done so early in development, but it probably helps that Nintendo already has the in-game engine from Breath of the Wild. link: https://www.techradar.com/news/breath-of-the-wild-2

The Cure For Me singer will host the live experience in-game straight after The Game Awards. Norwegian Muscian Aurora, known for songs like Runaway, Cure For Me, and for lending her ethereal vocals to Disney's Frozen 2, will be performing a virtual concert in Sky: Children Of The Light this December. The event comes as part of Sky's Season of Aurora, a two month long collaboration with the singer that kicked off in October. In keeping with the themes of the season, the concert is being described as a "unique musical journey," with the developers wanting players to connect with Aurora, her music, and with other players. Attendees will also play a part in the concert themselves, with Thatgamecompany promising "unparalleled" interactivity. The songs featured in the 45 minute concert will include "Exhale, Inhale," "Runaway," "All is Soft," "Warrior," "The Seed," and more. The concert is timed to begin after The Game Awards wraps up, kicking off at 8:30 PM PT on December 8, promising a unique kind of in-game afterparty for the industry awards show. Fans are also encouraged to turn up early to the in-game venue, with a number of pre-show attractions on offer including new characters, unique expressions and instruments, and other interactive experiences. For fans who won't be able to make the initial date, the experience will be replaying through the remainder of the Season of Aurora, with replays every four hours between midnight on December 8 until the season concludes on January 2. The concept of in-game concerts has become po[CENSORED]r since the start of the pandemic, with Fortnite having hosted artists like Ariana Grande and Travis Scott, and other big games like Roblox and PUBG getting in on the action. Sky's concert promises to be a very different kind of experience, thanks to its unique gameplay that draws its DNA from Thatgamecompany's earlier hit Journey. Sky: Children of the Light is free to play on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch, with a PlayStation launch coming this December. link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/singer-aurora-will-perform-a-concert-in-sky-children-of-the-light-this-december/1100-6509484/

Mountain's Everest 60 RGB keyboard maybe comes from a company you've never heard of but it just so happens to be one of our favorite 60% keebs here at PC Gamer. You can grab the keyboard today from Mountain(opens in new tab) with a hefty $60 discount, making the premium wee board just $80 for the standard black RGB number. But if you want to bling it up the discount means it's $99 if you want some extra fancy colored PBT keycaps, or $115 if you want the detachable numpad too. I think it's definitely one of the best Cyber Monday keyboard deals going(opens in new tab). These sorts of 60% keyboards are perfect for those of you with tiny hands like me, or if you're working in a limited space, and you'll find very little sacrificed with the Everest 60. We're curating all the best Cyber Monday PC gaming deals(opens in new tab) right here. In his review, our hardware overlord, Dave, called the Everest 60 "the best 60% keeb we've ever had the pleasure of testing" and he's not wrong. I've been using the Everest 60 since April and it is by far the comfiest keyboard I've ever used. There are several colour schemes to choose from and replacing all those plain black keys with the colourful optional keycap set of your choice is oh-so-satisfying. The tactile switch has just enough click to make it sound like I'm doing something important and you can switch up the RGB pattern easily enough to keep things spicy. The optional modular numpad is definitely worth getting, in my opinion, and you can choose whether to have it on the left or right, so you can create a gaming setup that's right for you. Whether you just want a fancy board just to type on or a swish new gaming keyboard, grabbing this baby for $80 is well worth it. link' https://www.pcgamer.com/my-tiny-hands-are-all-over-the-best-60-gaming-keyboard-in-the-black-friday-sales/

Rishi Sunak has asked for the investigation into alleged bullying by Dominic Raab to be expanded to include a third formal complaint. Earlier this week, No 10 confirmed a lawyer would investigate two complaints about Mr Raab. Now it says a new claim relating to Mr Raab's behaviour as Brexit secretary in 2018 will also be examined. Mr Raab, who is both the justice secretary and deputy prime minister, has denied any allegations of bullying. He has insisted he "behaved professionally at all times" and that he looks forward to dealing with the complaints "transparently rather than dealing with anonymous comments in the media". Mr Raab is a close ally of Mr Sunak and Downing Street has said he has the PM's full confidence. But Labour's deputy leader, Angela Rayner, has called for a wider "proactive investigation" of Mr Raab's behaviour during his time as a minister, covering informal complaints as well as any concerns raised formally. She described restricting the scope of the investigation to only formal complaints as a "stitch-up" that "will fool no one". It comes after sources told the BBC the Ministry of Justice, where Mr Raab now works, has been "inundated" with complaints of alleged bullying. Raab profile: Karate black-belt who is no stranger to controversy Lawyer to investigate Raab bullying claims Sunak: I don't recognise Raab bullying claims Last week, Mr Raab asked Mr Sunak to launch an inquiry into his conduct after allegations about his behaviour towards staff. The government appointed lawyer Adam Tolley KC to "establish the specific facts" about two formal complaints that have been lodged about Mr Raab's conduct when he was foreign secretary and justice secretary, during Boris Johnson's premiership. The lawyer will report to Mr Sunak, who will make the final judgement on whether Mr Raab's conduct breached the ministerial code. But the scope of the inquiry can be widened "at the discretion of the prime minister, in consultation with the investigator," according to its terms of reference. Mr Raab was sacked as justice secretary and deputy prime minister by former PM Liz Truss when she took power in September. But the Esher and Walton MP was reappointed to both roles by Mr Sunak following his election as Conservative leader by the party's MPs. There is now a coordinated effort by former private secretaries of Mr Raab to ensure their allegations are heard as part of the investigation. Private secretaries work in the private office of government ministers on the day-to-day running of the department, including managing the minister's diary and advising on policy matters. The BBC has been told that a number of these civil servants across multiple departments are preparing to submit their formal complaints. Of these complaints, some have already been submitted formally to government departments, while others are being readied. They cover a wide timescale, spanning from when Mr Raab was a junior minister to his time in cabinet, which he joined in July 2018 as Brexit secretary. Labour's deputy leader said: "There must be no hint of a whitewash when it comes to the slew of serious allegations the deputy prime minister now faces." Liberal Democrat Chief Whip Wendy Chamberlain MP said: "This flood of allegations about Dominic Raab's bullying behaviour cannot be swept under the carpet - Rishi Sunak must confirm he will sack Raab if these complaints are upheld." Downing Street said the latest formal complaint about Mr Raab was received on Wednesday and Mr Sunak asked for it to become part of the formal investigation on Thursday evening. Separately, BBC Newsnight has also been told that Mr Raab received multiple warnings from officials not to use his personal email account for government business. Last month, Home Secretary Suella Braverman was forced to quit after sharing government documents using her private email. However, Mr Raab has argued his use of private emails did not breach the rules, and that the ministerial code allows for it to be done in some circumstances. "I've always taken advice on the right means, particularly having been foreign secretary and dealing with a whole range of sensitive issues, I've always been very careful to protect the integrity of any communications I had," he said. Asked if he had been warned by civil servants not to use his own phone for government business, he replied: "No." A friend of the minister has told the BBC he used a private account on occasions for approving tweets and quotes related to government business. The Liberal Democrats said the Cabinet Office should "determine immediately if overseas enemies could have seen national secrets sent by Dominic Raab". A Downing Street spokesman said: "Ministers are able to use various forms of communication. As long as they take heed of that guidance, there is not a binary restriction on use of personal email addresses." link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-63754206

In an epic tug-of-war, it took the British angler 25 minutes to haul the monster fish, nicknamed The Carrot, to land. A British angler has caught one of the world's largest goldfish on record after an epic battle with the fish in a French lake. The fisher landed the 67-pound (30 kilograms) fish, nicknamed The Carrot, after a 25-minute tug-of-war at Bluewater Lakes in France's northeast Champagne province. A hybrid between a leather carp and koi, the goldfish was released into the lake 20 years ago, after which it ballooned in size, becoming one of the largest of its kind to ever be caught. "With normal fish you struggle to see them if they're just under the surface, but The Carrot is obviously bright orange so you can't miss it," Andy Hackett, the man who caught the fish, told the BBC(opens in new tab). "It's a much sought-after fish, not many people have caught it, it's quite elusive." After catching The Carrot, Hackett released the fish back into the lake so that other anglers would have a chance to catch it, the BBC reported. Related: Do goldfish really have a 3-second memory? If they are kept in home aquariums, goldfish (Carassius auratus) and smaller carp tend to grow no larger than 2 inches (5 centimeters) long. But when released into the wild, the teensy fish can grow into giants; in 2013, one supersize goldfish captured in Lake Tahoe measured nearly 1.5 feet (46 cm) long and weighed over 4 pounds (2 kg). Upon announcing the day's catch, Hackett was told "You're gonna need a bigger bowl," he recalled. Despite their propensity to die in captivity, goldfish are as tough as they come in the wild — having proven capable of living 25 years and surviving for up to five months without any oxygen(opens in new tab). This is because the fish evolved to live in ponds that freeze over in the winter, meaning that in low-oxygen environments their bodies shift from aerobic respiration to converting carbohydrates into alcohol, which they release through their gills. When these traits are coupled with rapid reproductive rates, goldfish are quickly able to dominate new habitats at the cost of native species. Goldfish tenacity has already caused problems in lakes in which multiple fish, often dumped by people who once kept them as pets, are released at once. In 2021, officials in the Minnesota city of Burnsville released an official statement pleading with residents to refrain from releasing goldfish into the waters of the city's Lake Keller. The once-tiny fish had begun growing to enormous sizes, and were wreaking havoc on the lake's delicate ecological webs. "Please don't release your pet goldfish into ponds and lakes!" city officials said in a statement on Twitter(opens in new tab). "They grow bigger than you think and contribute to poor water quality by mucking up the bottom sediments and uprooting plants." Waterway managers in Minnesota's nearby Carver County removed about 50,000 goldfish from local waters in November 2020, according to the Washington Post(opens in new tab). Similar problems have also cropped up in the province of Alberta, Canada and the city of Spokane, Washington, where the local government has pledged $150,000 to liberate a local lake from a goldfish invasion, KHQ news reported(opens in new tab). link: https://www.livescience.com/man-catches-enormous-goldfish-in-france

We got up close and personal with the van, and believe us, you'd love for your Black Friday and Cyber Monday purchases to roll up in this cute Rivian EDV. Rivan and Amazon's adorable electric delivery van—the EDV—is hitting the streets, with the first 1000 of the planned 100,000 slated for production already in the hands of the e-commerce giant's drivers. We had a chance to get up close and personal with the EDV at Rivian's Venice, California, showroom and came away impressed with its design and novel features. Here are 10 things we think make the EDV cool and, we hope, will make for a better experience for Amazon's road warriors. The EDV's cute look is no accident. Rivian's designers wanted it to have a friendly look since it will be a frequent sight in American neighborhoods. Instead of wearing a Rivian logo, Amazon's is emblazoned on its mirror-finished black fascia. The EDV is offered in two lengths, one intended to haul 500 cubic feet of packages and one that can hold up to 700 cubic feet of cargo. The one shown here is the larger EDV700, but the EDV500 is essentially the same van with one less modular body panel. The entire van is designed to be easy to repair in case of damage. For example, if the van is hit from the rear, the rubberized plastic bumper can be easily swapped for an undamaged one back at the depot. Speaking of rear-end damage, the EDV's bright and unmistakable red taillamp stretches up and over the entirety of the van. Not only does it make the van more visible, but it also looks slick and futuristic. Prime Blue Accents rivian amazon edv delivery van DREW DORIANCAR AND DRIVER The bright blue color Amazon uses throughout its website is incorporated into the EDV's design too. It's everywhere from the Prime logo on the side of the van to the trim in the cabin and a big swatch of it covering the rear door area. Just inside the rear and the front right doors of the van are thick grab handles painted the same color. Stripes on the seats and details on the key fob carry the theme, too. Just like Rivian's R1T and R1S models, the EDV sports a large infotainment touchscreen and a digital gauge display. Amazon's route software is loaded in place of Rivian's normal navigation software but the rest is pretty much the same as what you'd find on the brand's luxury EV trucks. The view forward can only be described as panoramic, and from this vantage point, the driver can see directly what's in front of the EDV. A 360-degree camera system also helps improve visibility when maneuvering in city streets. link: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g42063896/rivian-amazon-edv-delivery-van-black-friday/

The singer on arriving in the UK alone aged 7, her first £3 guitar, and meeting the anti-apartheid activist Sat 26 Nov 2022 14.00 GMT No matter how old you get, there’s always stuff to learn. That’s what 50 years in music has taught me. I’m not just talking about learning from a book. I’m talking about reading body language, understanding how people’s minds work, understanding that everybody has their own thoughts and ways they’d like the world to be. I came to the UK on my own, aged seven. I got on the aeroplane in St Kitts, got off at Birmingham airport, got on a bus to the city centre and met my mum. I wasn’t scared – I was excited to be back with my parents. Did people think it was weird? I have no idea. I was only little. My dad had a guitar that I wasn’t allowed to touch. I’m pretty sure that’s why I wanted to learn. He’d play Blue Moon [by the Marcels] and I thought it was the most beautiful thing. In the end I got my own guitar from a pawn shop. It cost £3. I didn’t have £3, so Mum traded two old prams for it. I’m obsessed with the piano. We got ours when I was young because my mum wanted a piece of furniture. She wasn’t bothered about playing it, she just thought it’d look nice in the front room. So I started mucking about with it. It’s a great instrument to learn music on if you don’t really know what you’re doing. It’s easy to play something that sounds nice. You put your fingers down – it sounds nice. Now you can play piano. It’s an intuitive instrument. Realising things aren’t all about you is good. When you’re young, everything is about you. You never think of life as finite. You think how things are now is how they’ll be forever. Growing up is about realising that the world exists beyond how you see and live in it. When I was starting out, somebody told me my career would last five years. I didn’t think they were right. I didn’t think they were wrong. I just thought that I was going to do music as long as I wanted to. Nelson Mandela gave great hugs. He was a really nice man. Before I met him, I was taken to Robben Island. I saw his cell and met the guards who’d looked after him. They all loved him – he’d converted them during his time there. When I was taken to his house, I felt the energy of him before I’d even gone inside. It was just incredible, and impossible to really describe. I’m not touring. It’s not that I don’t love touring. I do. It’s just that I got to the point where I thought, “If I don’t stop doing this for a while, I’m going to stop loving it,” and I didn’t want that to happen. I owe too much to the people who’ve bought my records and come to see me and who’ve allowed me to have a career to just go through the motions. I value privacy. I’ve never told the press everything – I like to keep a few things just for me, my family, my friends. Some people are extroverts. They like people knowing all about them. That’s fine. Don’t stifle them. They’re being themselves, and being yourself is the key to happiness. But me, I like keeping some things back. Fame is people knowing your name. They don’t know you. The album, Live at Asylum Chapel, is out now on BMG. The book of lyrics, The Weakness in Me: Selected Lyrics, is published by Faber, £14.99 link: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/26/joan-armatrading-nelson-mandela-gave-great-hugs

Pakistan's ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan has spoken to hundreds of thousands of supporters, in his first public appearance since being shot at and injured three weeks ago. Crowds gathered for a rally in the city of Rawalpindi, taking flags and signs. The former cricket star urged them to live without fear of death. One person was killed and several others injured during the attack earlier this month, which unfolded as Mr Khan led a similar event. The former PM was injured in his right leg and underwent surgery. He has accused members of the current government of plotting the attack, in Wazirabad. Authorities have rejected the accusation and released a video purporting to show a confession from a man they describe as the only suspect in the shooting. At the rally in Rawalpindi, Mr Khan's supporters erupted in cheers when he appeared after a delay of several hours. One woman told the BBC she had come because Mr Khan's cause was that of the people of Pakistan, not of himself. "I am here for a leader who is supporting us," she said. "There is one man only who has been raising his voice against all the establishment," a man in the crowd said. "He is here to look forward, he has given us a vision." The atmosphere was jovial despite heightened security, with crowds chanting slogans in support of the former prime minister and po[CENSORED]r Pakistani songs blaring out from loudspeakers. The cricket hero bowled out as Pakistan's PM Mr Khan alleged that "three criminals" were waiting to make another attempt on his life. But, he told supporters, "fear makes an entire nation into slaves". During his speech, he also admitted failures in tackling corruption during his premiership - saying he "failed in bringing the powerful under the law". The event was described as the climax of Mr Khan's "long march" - a series of rallies during which he has been demanding early elections. Beforehand, authorities put up roadblocks and urged him to call off the rally - citing the risk of violence. Workers were pictured installing a bulletproof glass shield on the stage. The former international cricket star was removed from office earlier this year after losing a confidence vote in parliament. He was later disqualified from holding public office. He has been accused of failing to accurately declare details of presents he received and sold off while in office - including Rolex watches, a ring and cuff links. Mr Khan denies any wrongdoing and describes the case against him as politically motivated. Following his ejection from office, he has become a vocal critic of Pakistan's government and its powerful military leadership. Mr Khan remains very po[CENSORED]r in the country and attracts large turnouts at his rallies. The government has repeatedly said it will hold a national poll next year, as planned. Pakistan has a long history of deadly political violence. In the most high-profile case, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated at a public rally in 2007. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-63767040

The Atlas Lions are strong tactically but lag behind in terms of intensity. Rabat - Sunday’s FIFA World Cup game between Morocco and Belgium will be a tough game for both teams, Atlas Lions’ Coach Walid Regragui said in a press conference today. One day ahead of the highly anticipated game, Regragui said that the Belgian team “has a fantastic coach,” some of the world’s top players, and substantial experience. Speaking on the Moroccan team’s priorities for tomorrow, Regragui explained that the team “must have more technical mastery compared to the first game.” According to the coach, the Atlas Lions have strong tactical capabilities but lag behind in terms of intensity, saying “we lost a lot of balls in the midfield.” Noting the recent development in the Qatar FIFA World Cup, Regragui said that African teams are changing the continent’s mindset of who is expected to win the world cup. “Today, I think that Tunisia, us, and even Senegal yesterday, have proved that you can lose the first game but stay in the race.” “We want to change the African mentality,” he stressed, adding that African teams have played “spectacular” games in previous World Cups, but “were eliminated from the first stage.” He continued that the focus this year should be “to move on to the second round.” Recalling Saudi Arabia’s historic win against Argentina, while highlighting African and Arab countries' capacity to make significant gains in the tournament. “Tomorrow, we will be solid, we will try to cause problems and make Africa proud, since we represent it,” he insisted. “The most important thing today is that Africa passes the group stage. We must prove that we are capable of passing. This requires a European state of mind. If we pass the group, I think we will be very dangerous," said the coach. Noussair Mazraoui, Achraf Hakimi and captain Romain Saiss have all been injured in the course of the first game, but “we have to get over it, it is the World Cup,” he added, assuring that he has great faith in the players set to fill in.
