  12. link : https://www.pcgamer.com/sega-will-not-proceed-with-nft-plan-if-it-is-perceived-as-simple-money-making/ In November of 2021, Sega's Q2 results mentioned the publisher planned to team up with Microsoft to develop cloud-powered 'super games'. What these super games might actually be remained nebulous, but apparently "the amount to be spent on them will be in the range of 10.0 to 15.0 billion yen at most." Given that Sega received a business investment of 100 billion yen, which is about $US865,313,900, that left a fair amount for other projects, which included "investment in new fields such as NFT." Following the recent hostility to proposals of NFTs being included in videogames, and the questionable 'play-to-earn' models associated with them, it was only a matter of time before Sega would address this. And so, during a management meeting last month, as spotted by Tweaktown, Sega president and group CEO Haruki Satomi did indeed note the "negative reactions" NFTs have received. "We need to carefully assess many things such as how we can mitigate the negative elements," he said, "how much we can introduce this within the Japanese regulation, what will be accepted and what will not be by the users. Then, we will consider this further if this leads to our mission 'Constantly Creating, Forever Captivating', but if it is perceived as simple money-making, I would like to make a decision not to proceed."It's hard to imagine how selling in-game NFTs and the entire grotesque concept of play-to-earn games wouldn't be perceived as "simple money-making", and yet other publishers seem eager to embrace them. Castlevania has NFTs now, and Peter Molyneux's next game Legacy is play-to-earn and all-in on NFTs. Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda recently said the company has "an eye to potentially issuing our own tokens in the future" even though "I realize that some people who 'play to have fun' and who currently form the majority of players have voiced their reservations toward these new trends". Meanwhile, Ubisoft's NFT scheme has been called "useless, costly, ecologically mortifying" by a French trade union. Others have heard the reaction and responded accordingly. GSC World canceled plans to incorporate NFTs in Stalker 2 following a backlash, and Steam has banned all games with NFTs or cryptocurrency
  13. https://www.techradar.com/news/why-slack-isnt-afraid-of-microsoft-teams-or-any-other-competitor here is a pleasing circularity to the recent career of Pip White, who in November took on the role of SVP & General Manager EMEA at collaboration software company Slack. Previously, White had spent a number of years running the sales operation at CRM titan Salesforce, before departing for a job at Google’s cloud arm. In the summer of 2021, Salesforce finalized an acquisition of Slack worth $28 billion, and now White finds herself in familiar company. A few months into her new role, TechRadar Pro spoke to White about Slack’s ambitions for the coming year, with the pandemic continuing to confine many workers to their home offices. The official party line goes a little something like this: Slack is the only viable digital headquarters for the hybrid working era, wherein we will all work in a fluid and asynchronous manner from a variety of locations. It’s a message we’ve heard many times over by now. However, White also offered insight into the nature of the company’s relationship with its new parent organization, as well as the way it perceives its competition in the collaboration sector. Slackforce Asked why she traded in her position at Google Cloud for one at Slack, White explained that the acquisition by Salesforce played a large part, as did the platform’s role in the evolution of work. “The opportunity to lead Slack in EMEA was a compelling one, especially in the context of the integration into Salesforce and the doors that has opened from an existing customer and growth perspective,” she explained. “It was also about where we are in the world right now, in terms of the way people are thinking about different ways of working. Slack presents a really interesting opportunity at the forefront of that transformation.” Having rolled out Slack internally prior to the acquisition, Salesforce was already equipped with a “really good feel for the technology”, White told us. And in future, the new parent company will help guide product development, as well as pursuing opportunities relating to the integration of Slack and Salesforce products. Slack founder and CEO Stuart Butterfield now reports in to Bret Taylor, who was recently appointed co-CEO at Salesforce. White describes this relationship as a “tight connection and collaboration” from a product perspective. “It’s a case of collaboration, not of Salesforce taking over, or vice versa,” said White. “It’s about what’s in the best interests of our customers and how we can help them on this hybrid working journey.” “Slack will be central to minimizing disruption and accelerating the opportunity for collaboration in this new digital economy, and even more so as a result of the new use cases we’ve been exploring since the acquisition.” This may well prove to be the case, but Slack will first have to see off increasingly stiff competition from a number of directions. What competition? As a result of the pandemic and shift to remote working, the collaboration and video conferencing market has never been hotter, nor more competitive. According to a recent survey from Gartner, there has been a 44% rise in the use of collaboration tools since 2019. These kinds of services have also become increasingly amorphous over the last couple of years, as the largest players continue to borrow features and design concepts from one another. In a venn diagram that maps out functionality, platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Slack and others would overlap significantly. However, White doesn’t accept the notion that Slack can be easily compared with other services, nor that the platform faces serious competition. Asked specifically about the rivalry between Slack and Microsoft Teams, she told us: “it’s not necessarily an apples to apples comparison”. This felt a touch disingenuous, given the commonalities between the two services; both offer text chat, group channels, audio calls, file sharing and integrations with third-party apps. In our mind, someone could be forgiven for thinking Slack and Teams are fruit of much the same tree. In 2020, Slack also filed an antitrust complaint against Microsoft over the bundling together of Teams and Office 365 services, which the company says amounts to an unfair advantage. Both White and Slack’s communications agency refused to be drawn into discussing the legal dispute, which is yet to be resolved, but its existence implies there is rivalry there. Nonetheless, White is ardent that Slack offers a unique value proposition, courtesy of its push towards asynchronous collaboration, short and spontaneous huddles in place of time-hungry meetings, and rich third-party integrations. “We will continue to innovate around these themes,” she told us. “All employers are thinking about how to approach cultural shifts and flux in the working environment; a lot of employees want different things.” “The situation is going to continue to evolve, so it’s about anticipating change and being supremely flexible. Technologies that allow for asynchronous working away from the physical office will enable that journey.” An automated future Regardless of whether Slack faces direct opposition from services like Teams, however, the company obviously has a clear vision for the future of its software. As announced in mid-November, Slack has “rebuilt and reengineered” large parts of the platform from the ground up. The main improvement is the introduction of a library of “building blocks” to the Slack Workflow Builder, which make it simpler to develop automations that eliminate the need to juggle many different business apps. Building these automations requires no coding whatsoever; the Lego-like blocks can be chained together via a simple drag-and-drop mechanism, which means workers don’t have to rely on overburdened developer teams to code-in new functionality. If there is no available building block that fulfils a particular task, a developer can step in to create one on an employee’s behalf. This new block will then become available across the organization and can be “remixed” into various other workflows. According to White, customers are beginning to utilize this and other new functionality to great effect, in ways that are not possible on any other platform. “We see the ability to bring work into channel as a key differentiator for us. The way in which most of our customers are starting to use Slack in anger, so to speak, is all about the ability to collaborate endlessly from one process to another,” she said. “We’re only beginning to see the start of changes to ways of working. A lot has changed in some sectors and digital transformation has undoubtedly been accelerated, but we’re still at the start of this journey. I think it’s a great opportunity for all of us to reconsider the ways in which we work.” Also check out our list of the best project management software
  14. link : https://wccftech.com/intel-core-i3-12100f-97-usd-vs-amd-ryzen-5-3600-200-usd-cpu-gaming-tests/ YouTube channel Testing Games compared ten games, pitting each between the recently released Intel Core i3-12100F and AMD's (almost) three-year-old Ryzen 5 3600 CPUs at 1080p resolution. As you can tell by the title of this article, you will see how far Intel has come in the last several years to be a formidable opponent to AMD as far as affordable but surprisingly powerful processor technology. Ten game tests compare the $97 US Intel Core i3-1200F 4-Core and $200 US AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core CPUs with surprising results First, let's walk through the system components being used. The test setup used by Testing Games is running Microsoft's previous Windows 10 operating system, ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-A D4 motherboard utilizing the Intel Core i3 12100F processor, the ASUS ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard for the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 test, and then uses the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU cooler, two Samsung 970 EVO M.2 2280 1 TB SSD memory, CORSAIR's RM850i 850W PSU, and an unknown DDR4 memory. The reason for not listing the specific brand of DDR4 memory is odd. The linked memory, however, is the G.SKILL Trident Z RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4-3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 desktop memory. Not specifically listing this in the components used for the test does raise questions as to why it was not revealed initially. However, the final result would essentially offer similar results to the tests. The games tested are: Forza Horizon 5 Call of Duty: Warzone Hitman 3 Cyberpunk 2077 Death Stranding PUBG (Players Unknown Battle Ground) Microsoft Flight Simulator Horizon Zero Dawn Mafia Definitive Edition Shadow of the Tomb Raider Here is the video to witness the tests in action: The results of the test prove that Intel's newer Golden Cove cores easily outperform AMD's somewhat older Zen 2 technology. Where the AMD R5 3600 CPU, with its 6 cores and 12 threads, offers lower frame rates per second than the newer Intel Core i3-12100F, with its 4 cores and 8 threads, offers a slightly higher frame rate with similar results. Let's break down the total results. We have included screenshots of each game during the test and tried to find peak times that both systems were running at full power. When first looking at the Forza Horizon 5 test, tested with the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 chip, averaged 175 FPS compared to Intel's result of 188 FPS—Intel receiving a small improvement (only 13 FPS better; not much more than a 1% improvement)—however, Intel's test was drawing more power from the GPU than AMD (around 30-40W between the two tests). For processing power, even though Intel was processing higher with an average of around 65% with a very minimal difference in the MHz, the temperature and power consumption was lower for Intel compared to AMD. And, going through the remainder of the games listed, the results were extremely similar. Graphically, it is very hard to distinguish large differences in visuals between the two chips. I saw only a few skips in images during Hitman 3 and Horizon Zero Dawn. Users would have to look meticulously for minor differences between the two companies. Temperatures can definitely affect performance, but even then, with Intel running slightly higher than AMD, it was nowhere near dangerously high levels produced by either company. As far as the final outcome, it seems beneficial to save up to $100 between the two CPUs, especially with just slightly better performance while gaming from Intel, compared to the older AMD chipset. The 6 cores from AMD might come in handy but for gaming setups, the Core i3-12100F seems like a perfect choice when coupled with an entry-level H610 board and DDR4 memory.

  16. link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-59900037 Fresh gunshots have been heard in Kazakhstan's largest city, as the president claims order has been largely restored after a violent crackdown to days of anti-government demonstrations. Reports said gunfire was heard near the main square of Almaty, the epicentre of protests sparked by a fuel price hike. The interior ministry said 26 "armed criminals" and 18 security officers had been killed so far in the unrest. Russian-led forces have arrived in the country at the president's request. Internet access in the country is down and little independent information is coming out. Armoured personal carriers and troops were seen in the main square of Almaty on Friday, the Reuters news agency said. More than 3,000 people have been arrested, according to the interior ministry, and local media said 70 checkpoints had been set up across the country. In a statement on Friday, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said "constitutional order [had] largely been restored in all regions of the country" and that "local authorities [were] in control of the situation". The president. who has blamed foreign-trained "terrorists" for the unrest without giving evidence, said the operations would continue until "the militants are completely eliminated". As the protests escalated, President Tokayev appealed to the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) for support. The bloc includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan and Armenia. The overseas force reportedly sent about 2,500 soldiers to Kazakhstan. The CSTO says the troops are a peacekeeping force and will protect state and military installations. They will stay in the country for several days or weeks, the Russian RIA ne Where is it? Kazakhstan shares borders with Russia to the north and China to the east. It is a huge country the size of Western Europe. Why does it matter? A former Soviet republic which is mainly Muslim republic with a large Russian minority, it has vast mineral resources, with 3% of global oil reserves and important coal and gas sectors. Why is it making the news? Fuel riots, which have escalated to become broader protests against the government, have resulted in resignations at the top and a bloody crackdown on protesters. Presentational grey line The US state department said it was closely monitoring the deployment of Russian troops. "The United States and, frankly, the world will be watching for any violation of human rights," a spokesman said. "We will also be watching for any actions that may lay the predicate for the seizure of Kazakh institutions." The unrest began on Sunday when the cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) - which many people in Kazakhstan use to fuel their cars - doubled, drawing protesters onto the streets. The government has said that fuel price caps will be restored for six months. But the announcement has failed to end the protests, which have broadened to include other political grievances. Kazakhstan is often described as authoritarian, and most elections are won by the ruling party with nearly 100% of the vote. There is no effective political opposition. The bloodshed comes after President Tokayev sacked his cabinet on Wednesday in a bid to head off the demonstrations. He also fired his powerful predecessor, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who had held a national security role since stepping down as president. By Abdujalil Abdurasulov, BBC News, Almaty The bustling square of Almaty has turned into a conflict zone, complete with burnt down buildings and vehicles. Many people are scared to go outside, especially at night because clashes are continuing. The sounds of shooting and explosions remind people how dangerous it can be to leave their homes. Local vigilante groups block the entrances to their villages near Almaty to prevent looting. Checkpoints and makeshift barriers block the entrance to the city, so people use narrow streets to get in and out of Almaty. There are big queues at petrol stations. Residents struggle to buy food because shopping malls, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants are all closed, only small shops are still open. The internet blockade continues, so people cannot withdraw money, or top up their phones. ws agency reports.
