    Jaguar XE

Price: from £26,995 On sale: May 2015 The spy shots, the teasers, the Nürburgring testing and even a dubious celebrity launch event – Jaguar’s crucial XE has dominated the headlines this year. The fact that the baby saloon will outsell the rest of the Jaguar line-up combined is reason alone for it to be one of 2015’s most important models. But there’s more reason than just flag-waving patriotism to be rooting for the Ian Callum-designed XE. For a start, it’s cleaner than the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, and capable of a claimed 99g/km and 75mpg. Its interior at last showcases a much needed new infotainment system for Jaguar Land Rover, while its rear-drive chassis reportedly uses dynamic lessons learned from the XFR and F-Type.
  2. Price: from £20,000 (est) On sale: Late 2015 Nissan’s luxury arm, Infiniti, is taking on other premium hatchbacks, such as the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and VW Golf, with the new Q30. Already revealed in concept form, it will be built in the UK at Nissan’s Sunderland plant. Under the skin, the Q30 will borrow technology from Mercedes – so as well as sitting on the MFA platform underpinning the A-Class, the car is expected to use Mercedes’ range of 2.0-litre diesel and petrol engines. Also coming soon: Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Price: £85,000 (est) On sale: late 2015 (est)
  3. Price: from £10,000 (est) On sale: Early 2015 The new i20 offers a more swish design and class-leading cabin space. A new platform makes it 40mm longer and 26mm wider than before, which will no doubt pay dividends for practicality. Blacked-out C-pillars and an emphasis on horizontal lines help the car appear lower and meaner than the outgoing model, too, and as for tech, Hyundai’s thrown everything in, with a reversing camera and seven-inch touchscreen sat-nav. Also coming soon: Hyundai i20 Coupe Price: from £12,000 (est) On sale: Late 2015
  4. Price: £30,000 (est) On sale: early 2015 The new Civic Type R has been in the pipeline for quite some time now, and the showroom model is set to arrive shortly after the new year. Honda has whetted our appetite with not one but two Civic Type R concept cars, which both gave us an insight into what we can expect from what will be the brand’s most extreme hot hatch. Ensuring the Type R can compete with the likes of the VW Golf GTI and Renaultsport Mégane, Honda has told us to expect at least 278bhp from the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine – that means 0-62mph should take around six seconds. A sophisticated suspension set-up will help make use of all that power, while a new +R driving mode unlocks the car’s full potential by boosting performance, stiffening the ride and adding weightier steering. Honda HR-V Price: £16,000 (est) On sale: early 2015 The HR-V badge was last seen in 2005, but after a nine- year absence it’s set to return. Honda is looking to target the Nissan Juke with its new crossover, which features some neat practical touches to boost its family appeal. The centrally located fuel tank helps to free up more boot space and Honda’s Magic Seating arrangement gives greater flexibility. The car sits on the platform of the next-generation Jazz, meaning there should be a familiar range of engines, including a hybrid.
  5. Price: £30,000 (est) On sale: mid 2015 Ford’s flagship MPV may not appear to be radically different upon first inspection, but it’s what’s under the skin that counts. The Galaxy gets a brand new platform – the same one that underpins the new Edge SUV, S-MAX and Mondeo. That makes a new range of engines available, such as 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrol EcoBoosts, plus new 1.5 and 2.0-litre diesels. As in the Mondeo, it’s possible Ford could develop a hybrid Galaxy, with CO2 emissions around the 100g/km mark. Also coming soon: Ford S-MAX (& C-MAX) Price: from £24,000 (est) On sale: summer 2015
