Sweden's government is recommending wearing face masks on public transport during the rush hour, reversing its earlier Covid guidance. It will also cut from the current eight to four per table the number of people sitting together in restaurants, and ban alcohol sales after 20:00. PM Stefan Löfven unveiled the measures, which will take effect soon. Elsewhere in Europe, Italy and Austria are the latest countries to be placed in lockdowns over the Christmas period. Sweden, which has never imposed a full lockdown, has seen nearly 360,000 cases and 8,000 deaths - many more than its Scandinavian neighbours. The country had previously been one of only a few nations not to recommend masks in public outside of healthcare settings. This is despite strong recommendations given by the World Health Organization (WHO). On Thursday, Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf said the Scandinavian nation "failed" to save lives with its relatively relaxed approach to the coronavirus outbreak. The monarch made the remarks as part of an annual TV review of the year with the royal family. Instead of relying on legal sanctions, Sweden appeals to citizens' sense of responsibility and civic duty, and issues only recommendations. There are no sanctions if they are ignored. However, earlier this week, schools across the Stockholm region were asked to switch to distance learning for 13 to 15-year-olds for the first time as soon as possible. The measure was announced in response to rising Covid-19 cases. This came a week after a nationwide decision on 7 December to switch to remote learning for those over 16. And on Monday, new nationwide social-distancing recommendations for the Christmas period came into force, replacing similar region-specific guidelines. What else is happening in Europe? Sweden is not alone in tightening coronavirus restrictions. A number of European countries have done so ahead of Christmas following a surge of infections. The Netherlands and Germany have imposed lockdowns until January. On Friday, Italy followed suit, imposing a nationwide lockdown for much of the Christmas and New Year period. Italians will only be allowed to travel for work, health or emergency reasons between 24-27 December, 31 December - 3 January, and 5-6 January. What restrictions are in place in Europe? In Austria, the government said on Friday the country would enter its third lockdown after Christmas. From 26 December, non-essential shops will be shut and movement outside homes restricted. However, a mass testing programme in January will give people the opportunity to end their lockdown sooner. The government said those who test negative for the virus will be allowed more freedoms. In France, President Emmanuel Macron remains in self-isolation in the official presidential residence at La Lanterne at Versailles after testing positive for Covid-19. Mr Macron said he was suffering from fatigue, headaches and a dry cough. Slovakia's Prime Minister Igor Matovic, who attended an EU summit with Mr Macron last week, said he had tested positive for coronavirus on Friday. Several other European leaders who were also at the summit, including the prime ministers of Belgium, Spain, Portugal and Luxembourg, said they would self-isolate.

Best known for its enthusiast RAM, G.Skill is expanding into a new product segment with the ENKI chip-chiller. G.Skill is most synonymous high-end memory products, and as it relates to that, it is very much involved in the extreme overclocking scene—its RAM accounts for around half of the top 20 DDR4 frequency records at HWBOT. But like many memory makers, RAM is only part of a fleshed out product lineup. One area G.Skill has not dabbled in, however, is CPU cooling, but that now changes with the introduction of its ENKI series of all-in-one liquid coolers. Despite being new territory for G.Skill, it has already mastered the art of marketing, as it pertains to liquid cooling. "Named after the ancient Sumerian god of water, the ENKI series AIO is a custom-designed AIO CPU cooler that focuses on high cooling performance by eliminating heat-transfer bottlenecks and engineered to efficiently extract heat from the CPU, through specially-selected low thermal resistance thermal paste, across the custom-tuned convex copper cold plate, and into the high-density radiator via widened, low-evaporation coolant tubing," G.Skill explains. In other words, it's a traditional liquid cooler, in that there is a cold plate, tubing, a pump, and a radiator, all assembled into a presumably easy-to-install all-in-one kit. Though to be fair, that might be selling it short. G.Skill tells us it is using its own custom solution, meaning this is not a rebadged AIO cooler with its name stamped on it. Part of that entails the custom-tuned convex cold plate, designed to minimize the travel distance of heat pulled from the CPU through the "server-grade" thermal paste and into the solid copper plate. "On the other side of the cold plate, stair-shaped high-density micro-fins are used to optimally guide the coolant intake-outtake flow for efficient heat transfer from the cold plate and into the coolant," G.Skill says. The tubing used is 8mm (inner diameter) and sleeved. And as for the radiator, G.Skill claims it uses denser piping compared to "typical radiators," with the 360mm and 240mm models leveraging 3-4 times more radiator pipes, and the 280mm version using 6 times more radiator pipes. High static pressure fans with nine fan blades provide the airflow, and of course RGB lighting is part of the package. Whether it lives up to the hype, we'll have to wait and see—G.Skill says its new coolers will be available in 2021, backed by five-year warranties.

Game Informations. Developers : inXile Entertainment. Publisher : Deep Silver. Released : Aug 28, 2020. Genre : Role-playing. Mode : Single-player - multiplayer. Platforms : Microsoft Windows - PlayStation 4 - Xbox One - macOS - Linux. After its successful crowdfunding via Fig and later with the help of Microsoft, inXile Entertainment’s Wasteland 3 is set to arrive this week via Steam. Featuring fresh and familiar faces, exploration of the vast wilderness of Colorado, turn-based combat, zany humor, and difficult decisions, Wasteland 3 promises loads of hours of RPG goodness. Your adventure in Wasteland 3 starts where the Desert Rangers left off in the second game: worse for wear. Their Arizona base having been nuked to stop a resurgent Cochise AI, the survivors try to look for aid. Those meddling kids This is when the Patriarch comes in. The leader—some would say the “dictator”—of Colorado will send supplies in return for helping him deal with his children. It’s not just a case of babysitting, mind you. Each of the Patriarch’s kids—Valor, Victory, and Liberty—are out to topple him from his lofty perch. Heck, they’re also either bloodthirsty or insane. This sets the stage for Wasteland 3‘s main quests and the arrival of the Rangers in Colorado. Wasteland 3‘s new beginnings Unfortunately, the Rangers suffer devastating casualties due to an enemy ambush. The tutorial level, the aptly named “Ambush Site,” gives you the gist of Wasteland 3‘s new mechanics and systems. First, you can only create two custom Rangers at the start. You’ll then assign their attributes, skills, perks, and quirks. Veterans of the series will notice how stats are more streamlined now. For instance, action points (AP) are solely governed by the Coordination attribute. Likewise, items go to a shared loot pool with an unlimited carrying capacity (no more individual stashes). Indeed, these and many other changes make the stat allocations for Coordination, Luck, Awareness, Strength, Speed, Intelligence, and Charisma (aka CLASSIC) more manageable. From there, your chosen skills will come into play. Did you pick Hard Ass to intimidate opponents during speech checks? How about Mechanics to repair generators? What about the all-important Lockpicking for all those chests, or Sneaky Shit to ensure that you can disable tripwires? Early on in Wasteland 3‘s campaign, you’ll realize how your picks are key to your progression and how the story would play out. When a bandit holds one of your fellow Rangers at gunpoint, and you need Hard Ass/Kiss Ass and First Aid to ensure that your comrade survives, what’s your course of action? If you fail, that soldier’s dead; if you succeed, you’ll find out that she could become a unique companion later in the game. Tactical turnaround Perhaps the biggest change in Wasteland 3 is its combat system. Wasteland 2 used a “turn order system,” where your characters and their foes alternated turns based on their initiative stat. Now, all your units can act during the same turn followed by the enemy group. Think of this combat system as akin to the mainline XCOM titles. Funnily enough, XCOM switched to a “turn order system” with the recent Chimera Squad spinoff. Even better, you can now have up to six people in your squad. This leads to bigger firefights that require you to plan ahead, even letting you choose from end-turn actions such as defend, ambush (overwatch), or prepare (save some remaining action points/AP for the next round). Oh, and remember those two custom Rangers that you created at the beginning of the game? Well, once you reach a new area, you can select from different templates or make completely new ones from scratch. You can have a minimum of two custom Rangers and four unique companions (2/4), a maximum of four custom Rangers and two unique companions (4/2), or three of each (3/3). Since you’ve got more characters to bring in your journeys, you can mix and match so that your team has each skill check covered. Wasteland 3‘s difficult decisions The original Wasteland was known for its “persistent” environments where, if you returned to a location, you’ll find it just as how you left it. These are the implications of consequences stemming from your actions (one that Wasteland 2 further exemplified). In Wasteland 3, the decisions you make will be more crucial than ever. That rescued soldier who eventually became a unique companion is just the tip of the iceberg. There are more key decisions and moments that you need to ponder on. Some examples include what to do with a prisoner who assisted a mass murder. As mentioned in the beta preview that I also covered, executing this character leads to a worsening of relations with one of the game’s five factions. Arresting them could lead to a reputation boost with another faction, but only if they’re imprisoned by the sheriff and not by one of your officers. Next, as soon as you step foot on the world map, you’ll need to choose between two locations that are calling for your aid—a homestead or a caravan—and you can only save one. It’s like the previous game’s Ag Center vs. Highpool decision. Later, you could find yourself teaming up with one of the Patriarch’s wayward children, and an entity might judge you for all your previous transgressions (in a moment that left me in awe). Familiar faces It gets even more conflicting as you continue to progress. Did you find a synth? Cool. Now, what are you going to do when Gary “NaCl” Wolfe tells you to kill it? Wolfe, as series vets would know, is a character from the previous game. He, like many others, can be spotted as you continue onward in Wasteland 3‘s campaign. There are many fan favorites that make an appearance, leading to moments that’d make you grin and fist pump due to excitement. There are also a few nods and references here and there, especially as you discover what the hell happened to the Rangers (and the rest of Arizona) after the Citadel’s destruction. Even Quarex, a Rail Nomad who likes collecting classic video games, now runs a gaming museum complete with “the last copy of Wasteland 4” as an exhibit. Speaking of museums, you could even have one in your newly recommissioned Ranger HQ in Colorado. You’re not limited to a museum because you can also find people who’ll staff your armory, med bay, brig, and garage. Whether it’s your fame, reputation, squad, or facilities, Wasteland 3 has you rebuilding your organization in this new state. The winter wonder-wasteland As for your garage, this becomes a fixture in Wasteland 3, since this is where you fine-tune your vehicle, the Kodiak. Unlike in previous titles where you’re just walking around (or maybe running out of water), Wasteland 3 will let you roam Colorado’s frozen and mountainous terrain while driving the Kodiak. Additionally, you won’t need to collect a resource (like fuel) just to keep it running on the world map. At best, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve got the skills to avoid or survive random encounters. You’ll also need those that can net you a lot of stuff from stashes, crates, camps, and bunkers (which act as “shrines” of sorts). You don’t get to explore them, but you do have dialogue options/skill checks on how to investigate and loot them. Exploration is definitely a lot more comfortable this time around. The Kodiak even doubles as a seventh squad member in many battles since you can equip it with mortars, cannons, and various armor platings to smash through barriers and enemies. Minor misgivings Still, I did have a few misgivings. Although Wasteland 3 doesn’t suffer from a litany of atrocious bugs, there were a few minor issues. These include sidequests that don’t get completed, instances or incidents that seem to be unfinished, and a particular zone that led to an infinite loading screen if you loaded your save. There were also a few hiccups, such as framerate drops when lots of special effects were on-screen (i.e., flames), the times when your squad’s lineup (i.e., listed order) continuously resetting, consumables disappearing from your quick slots (you’d need to re-equip them again), and the names of zones staying on-screen all throughout (which requires you to relaunch the game). Some features, likewise, need QOL improvements. For example, you can’t use certain First Aid consumables on a teammate directly via your inventory (as you’d need to equip the item first to use it on the tactical map). I’d also like to see a sorting option (price or damage/armor stats) and utility items don’t even have their own tabs. Lastly, AI-controlled companions can be quite a nuisance when they start wading in your line of fire or AoE blasts. Bear in mind that I already reported these issues, so we could see some fixes in time for the game’s release. Perhaps the biggest point of contention I can think of—and one that’ll be considered by long-time fans—is that the challenge becomes moot halfway through the game (at least even at Ranger difficulty). Yes, combat will still test your mettle. However, the aforementioned skill checks will become forgettable due to so many options combined with a revolving door of newly-created characters. On one hand, you can think of this as Wasteland 3 becoming more accessible. On the other, you could also feel that strict character builds and min-maxing would be lessened to a degree—maybe you’d just pick the Supreme Jerk difficulty or wait for the post-launch permadeath option if you want a real challenge. The War for Colorado In spite of these misgivings, I can’t fault Wasteland 3 for its visuals, as inXile Entertainment really did a fine job with this title. Barring the rare FPS hiccup, the effects remain clean and crisp, with destinations and the world map fully immersing you in the unforgiving frontier of Colorado. In terms of audio and music, there are no qualms here. The talents of Mark Morgan (who also composed the soundtrack for Wasteland 2, Fallout, and Fallout 2) and Mary Ramos (the musical director for several of Quentin Tarantino’s films) are on full display. It came to a point when I half expected Nancy Sinatra’s version of “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” to start playing in the middle of a firefight. Still, “America the Beautiful” does suffice. In the end, I still found that Wasteland 3 provided the same vibes that the series is known for. There are zany, over-the-top characters that’d make you giggle due to their dark humor. Some funny moments come from ambient dialogue, like people prank calling Ranger HQ. Others, meanwhile, are discovered as you do quests, such as randomly encountering Scotchmo in a dungeon or Santa Claus going “ho ho ho-ly shit” after you reveal that he’s got a drug den filled with elves. Oh, and there’s the gigantic Ronald Reagan statue that fires lasers from its eyes. There are locations and scenes so grim and macabre that you have no doubts that this is set in a dark, post-apocalyptic world, such as members of a death cult chopping off their victims’ limbs and attaching their torsos to “kites.” Of course, there are dilemmas that led to various outcomes, the repercussions of which won’t be felt until hours have passed or once you’ve reached the game’s final act. Wasteland 3 also has a co-op feature. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try this during the course of my review. My experiences were purely from a single-player standpoint. Nevertheless, my first completion clocked in at roughly 60 hours. This also included sidequests and some reloading/save-scumming to jot down notes for various guides. I’ve even replayed the final act to see different epilogues. I just wish the campaign could’ve been extended as the final act itself felt rushed. Don’t get me wrong; Wasteland 3 remains a complete and satisfying journey. However, we’re only scratching the surface of what this new frontier holds for the Rangers. I hope to see more content down the road and maybe more unique companions who’ll join the squad. Available in 2022, the vans will offer up to 450 cubic feet of cargo room as they join the burgeoning ranks of electrified work vehicles. Electric vehicle startup Canoo unveils two electric delivery vans and announces a third is on the way. The vans, which compare in size to a wider Honda Odyssey and a wider Kia Niro, will have up to 450 cubic feet of cargo space and an EPA-estimated range of up to 230 miles. Early models will be available in 2022, with full production coming in 2023. While consumer EVs are where the fun is, fleet and business EVs will do a lot to reduce carbon emissions and when done correctly will actually save companies money, since EVs require less maintenance to keep on the road. Electric-vehicle startup Canoo is targeting that demographic as it unveils its upcoming delivery vehicle lineup. The startup is offering two different variants of its futuristic-looking electric vans, which will be priced starting at $33,000. The MPDV1, about the same overall length as the Kia Niro but about seven inches wider, has 200 cubic feet of cargo space. The taller MPDV2, roughly the same overall length as a Honda Odyssey but about eight inches wider, will have 450 cubic feet of space. Both will be powered by a single motor on the front axle outputting 200 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. The MPDV1 will be outfitted with battery packs from 40.0 kWh to 80.0 kWh with EPA estimated ranges from 130 to 230 miles. The MPDV2 will get the same pack sizes, but with EPA estimated ranges from 90 miles to 190 miles likely due to the increased size of this vehicle. According to Canoo, DC fast charging on the 80.0-kWh battery pack will take 28 minutes from 20 to 80 percent. Since these vehicles will likely be roaming cities picking up and delivering packages, range is less of an issue than in a consumer EV. Canoo states that limited availability of the vehicle will begin in 2022, with full production planned for 2023. Canoo has already shown off a passenger van, and a third commercial model, the MPDV3, will be launched later and will likely be in the Class 3 truck category. As is the fashion for newly announced vehicles these days, the company is taking refundable $100 deposits to order one of the delivery vans.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed as "a trick" a joint media investigation that blamed Russian state agents for poisoning his arch-critic, Alexei Navalny. He accused Mr Navalny of receiving help from the US secret services. He told a news conference that it was "not an investigation" but "a trick aimed at attacking the top people". Agents in Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) were named by Bellingcat and other media investigators. Mr Navalny narrowly survived the August poisoning, spending weeks in intensive care in a Berlin hospital. Western specialists established that a type of Russian Novichok nerve agent had been used in the attack - an agent that could only have come from a state facility. Mr Putin said the details published by Bellingcat and its partners on Monday amounted to "the legalisation of data from the US special services". "This means that this Berlin clinic patient [Navalny] has the support of US intelligence services." Therefore, he added, "the [Russian] special services certainly should track him". He belittled Mr Navalny, saying "what use is he to anyone?" He added, with a laugh, that if Russian agents had wanted to poison Mr Navalny "they would probably have finished the job". Mr Navalny accuses Mr Putin of running a deeply corrupt administration, and his investigations have drawn millions of followers on social media. In the wide-ranging, televised news conference, Mr Putin - in power since 2000 - also said he had not yet decided whether to run for the presidency again in 2024. He spoke to the huge audience via video link from his Novo-Ogarevo residence outside Moscow because of the coronavirus hygiene rules. When asked about the US presidential election, Mr Putin said Russia's relations with Washington had become "hostage" to US domestic politics. "We believe the US president-elect [Joe Biden] will sort things out because he has both domestic and foreign policy experience," he said. The questioner asked him why Russian hackers had not helped Donald Trump this time, as they allegedly had in 2016 - a point dismissed by Mr Putin as "a provocation". "Russian hackers didn't help the current president [Trump], they didn't interfere, these are all inventions to spoil our relations with the USA." On Russia's response to the coronavirus crisis, Mr Putin was challenged repeatedly about the pandemic's severe impact on the health service and economy. Mr Putin said the locally produced vaccine was safe and efficient, but it would take time to develop production capacity. He said he would get vaccinated but he was not in the priority group getting it first. On the economy, he acknowledged that real incomes in Russia were falling, partly because of the pandemic.

AMD is just getting started at the whole ray tracing game. The AMD RX 6800 XT marks Team Radeon's very first ray tracing enabled GPU, with the power to render Microsoft DirectX Raytracing (DXR) supporting games, albeit rather slower than the Nvidia competition. But no longer is AMD restricted to Microsoft's ray tracing API as today the Khronos group, a cross-vendor supported consortium of super-smart people, has unleashed its own GPU-agnostic ray tracing extension for Vulkan. Vulkan is the open API which has ostensibly replaced OpenGL and is heavily based on the close-to-the-metal Mantle API AMD championed many years ago now. The Vulkan Ray Tracing extension, conversely, is heavily based on the VK_NV_ray_tracing extension Nvidia worked so hard on to get RT support baked into Vulkan all by itself. But now it's open to all comers, making today an auspicious day in the cross-platform world of GPU-agnostic ray tracing. Leading the charge is the Quake II RTX remake which uses a full path tracer to render the lighting for its less-than-complicated 1997 geometry. Still, as we've seen with the DXR-supported version of Minecraft, that can have a dramatic effect on the visual fidelity of the game. Okay, it's maybe not quite so dramatic on Quake II RTX, but it can certainly impact performance to the point where even the Nvidia RTX 3080 cowers before its path tracing renderer at full 4K settings. That GPU's sporting second-gen RT cores inside it and uses third-gen Tensor cores to nail the compute-intensive denoising side of things. So spare a thought for the AMD RDNA 2 architecture which is trying to do a whole lot of the ray tracing work on its standard compute units. That's one of the reasons why you're seeing the performance of the RX 6800 XT running at almost half the speed of the equivalent Nvidia GPU. It's tough to be too down on AMD's GPUs at the moment when it comes to ray tracing, however, because as I said at the beginning, it's just getting started. The Radeon drivers admit they currently have issues with DirectX Raytracing; the release notes for this month's driver points out the known issues in a whole swathe of DXR-enabled games. "Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield V, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare may experience intermittent application crashes with DirectX Raytracing enabled," so sayeth the notes. And indeed I experienced intermittent application crashes testing Quake II RTX on the RX 6800 XT. AMD also still has yet to turn on ray tracing support for its DXR-capable GPUs in Cyberpunk 2077. On the one hand, that isn't so unexpected—the game's already a performance hog and a buggy mess to boot, so I doubt the red team wants to flip the 'DXR On' switch right now—yet, on the other, it's a huge shame because with ray tracing enabled Cyberpunk 2077 can look stunning. Though you really need the AI might of Nvidia's DLSS to deliver what it needs to run at a reasonable frame rate with all those simulated photons flying around. Even the Nvidia RTX 3090 struggles to render that mutha at 4K. AMD may well have its own version of DLSS baked into Cyberpunk 2077 somewhere, however. We've heard rumours AMD has its own tech coded in there, with Radeon techies on site working to get ray tracing running. So there is a chance it could be the poster child for AMD's own ray tracing future when things calm down and the game actually, y'know, works. But back to Quake II RTX, and we'll probably see the half-height AMD performance explained away as it failing to flourish under an extension which has ostensibly been built by Nvidia engineers. Yet the whole point of the Khronos Group having the likes of AMD, Nvidia, and Intel all part of the 150 companies making up the consortium, is so that any extension it puts out runs fairly across everyone's hardware, regardless of manufacturer. Still, today the ray tracing ecosystem just got a little broader, and that can only be a good thing as we look to the future.

Game Informations. Developers : Douze Dixièmes. Publisher : Focus Home Interactive. Released : December 10, 2020. Genre : Platform-puzzle. Mode : Single-player Platforms : Microsoft Windows - PlayStation 4 - Xbox One - Nintendo Switch. Shady Part of Me isn’t the first of this year’s narrative puzzle games to focus on shadow mani[CENSORED]tion. But it might be the most unique one. Successfully melding 3D and 2D gameplay into a coherent whole is no easy feat, but developer Douze Dixièmes has done just that and wrapped it up with an intentionally vague, yet interesting examination of personal acceptance and growth. It isn’t the longest game around, but it’s as long as it needs to be and is highly memorable due to its mechanics and stellar presentation. The game begins with a girl. She’s sad, she’s lonely, and she’s frightened. But she’s not totally alone. Her shadow walks with her, albeit separately. The girl and her shadow are voiced by Hannah Murray, best known for portraying Gilly in Game of Thrones. The girl has a suitably childish voice, while her shadow is more mature. I don’t want to delve too deeply into Shady Part of Me‘s narrative, as that would spoil the fun of piecing it together on your own. It’s one of those stories that doesn’t make an awful lot of sense for a large portion of the playtime. But it becomes fairly clear what you’re bearing witness to as you gain more information. Shady Part of Me takes place over four acts. Each act is broken into several segments where your goal is simply to get both the girl and her shadow to stand within their respective circles at the end. The girl’s circle is always white and in the 3D space. Likewise, the shadow’s circle is in the 2d space and is black. Once they’re both in place, the next section, which is black and white and exists in sketch form, fills in, allowing you to progress further. It’s an effective way to structure each segment and gives the game a very neat feel. Hand-in-hand You’ll switch between the girl and her shadow with the press of a button in Shady Part of Me. The two offer completely separate styles of gameplay as well. Both can walk and pull levers, but the girl can push boxes while the shadow can jump. The girl moves freely within a 3D space and her main quirk is that she can’t stand to be in the light. Therefore, she can only move in the shadows, which requires you to mani[CENSORED]te the environment so that she can progress. Likewise, the shadow can only exist on lit surfaces but can only stand on other shadows. All of her environments are on the walls and floors and it’s rather striking to see both characters exist in tandem with one another. The shadow plays more like a 2D platformer, and you’ll have to make jumps while navigating hazards such as thorns while avoiding getting crushed. The controls for both types of gameplay are great, as it’s easy to coordinate the two characters’ efforts. And Shady Part of Me is all about coordination as the two can’t complete their sections alone. Throughout the game, the shadow will need to help create shadows for the girl, while the girl will similarly need to light surfaces and mani[CENSORED]te shadows. These puzzles come in just a few varieties. There’s a lot of pushing boxes and creating shadows of levers and the like. But there are a fair amount of unique situations that tie in with the themes of each location. Perhaps you’ll be prepping a boat or moving a large clock around. For the most part, Shady Part of Me‘s puzzles are strong and consistently interesting. They also tend to make a great deal of sense, which helps the game’s pace stay steady. Overall, the game has a fairly excellent difficulty curve, save for two sections that were much less clear than the rest. I had to request help for one. When I once again found myself stuck, I showed our EIC the puzzle and he noticed something I didn’t, which allowed me to move on. Your mileage will vary, of course. Childhood’s end There’s a lot of variety to the environments in Shady Part of Me. You’ll see a mental health facility, a school, a carnival, and other places. Each location has a lot of character and a fair amount of interesting things to see that differentiate them from one another. The visuals themselves are somewhat cel-shaded and the game makes fantastic use of its muted color palette, often switching to different tones based on which character you’re controlling. As far as artistic-looking games go, this one stands on its own. Audio in Shady Part of Me is similarly good. Hannah Murray does a very good job here, especially in regards to differentiating the girl and her shadow. It does sound like a bit of a stretch when she does the girl’s voice, however, even if her intonation and delivery are perfectly believable. The dialogue is similarly well-written. I could see someone playing through the game more than once to try and properly analyze the events that take place, as viewing the earlier sections while having a greater understanding of the narrative is an enticing prospect. It will probably take most players five-to-six hours to finish the game, although that number can obviously increase if they were to get stuck, which is feasible. Shady Part of Me also has about 100 origami birds to collect, which can easily extend the game’s playtime. Collecting these adds tiny bits of additional text or voice acting and plugs a jigsaw piece into pictures corresponding with each act that can be seen on the main menu. You can also revisit any act you want if you’d like to hunt for these. I’m not sure if they grant anything additional, as I didn’t collect 100% of the birds during any one section. Shady Part of Me is a highly compelling little game, with enjoyable gameplay and satisfying mechanics that I’ve never seen pulled off quite like this. The presentation is strong, it lasts longer than most games of this sort do, and it also has a healthy dose of narrative themes to chew on. All of that makes it one of the best puzzle-platformers I’ve seen this year, making for an easy recommendation. Chevrolet has released a teaser of the upcoming 2022 Bolt EUV electric crossover's headlights. The thin LED headlights have a sequential turn signal and black "Bolt EUV" badges connected at the rear. The 2022 Bolt EUV will be the first Chevy to offer GM's Super Cruise self-driving tech. Chevrolet is trying to get you excited about its upcoming electric vehicles. The automaker has already teased an upcoming electric pickup truck and provided a few sneak peeks at the Bolt EUV's dashboard and silhouette. The company has also announced that the larger Bolt crossover will be its first vehicle with GM's Super Cruise self-driving tech. Now it's sharing a glimpse at the upcoming electric crossover's LED headlights. There will be two Chevrolet Bolts—both electric—for the 2022 model year. The Bolt EV will be an update of the existing hatchback model, and the Bolt EUV will be a new electric crossover. The headlights we're seeing here are those of the larger Bolt EUV, but we can expect the smaller hatch's to look similar. They're sharp and thin, they tail off with a blacked-out "Bolt EUV" badge, and they'll feature a sequential turn signal and LED daytime running lights. Both Bolts will be built on GM's BEV2 electric-vehicle platform instead of the Ultium battery platform. The larger EUV will have the option of GM's Super Cruise self-driving tech, which now can be operated on more than 200,000 miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada. It also now allows drivers to engage an automated lane change by using the turn-signal stalk. There is no word currently on either model's battery capacity or range. The new electric vehicles are slated to go into production next summer and should arrive by the end of the year. We'll know more about Chevy's new EVs in the coming months.

A long-lost Egyptian artefact has been found in a cigar box in Aberdeen - and it is hoped it could shed new light on the Great Pyramid. The chance discovery was made by a member of staff at the University of Aberdeen during a collection review. The small fragment of 5,000-year-old wood - which is now in several pieces - is said to be "hugely significant". The engineer Waynman Dixon originally discovered it among items inside the pyramid's Queens Chamber in 1872. The piece of cedar - which it is believed may have been used during the pyramid's construction - was donated to the university in 1946 but then could not be located. Curatorial assistant Abeer Eladany found it while conducting a review of items housed in the university's Asia collection. Abeer, who is originally from Egypt and spent 10 years working in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, cross-referenced it with other records. 'Hidden in plain sight' "Once I looked into the numbers in our Egypt records I instantly knew what it was, and that it had effectively been hidden in plain sight in the wrong collection," she said. "I'm an archaeologist and have worked on digs in Egypt but I never imagined it would be here in north-east Scotland that I'd find something so important to the heritage of my own country. "It may be just a small fragment of wood, which is now in several pieces, but it is hugely significant given that it is one of only three items ever to be recovered from inside the Great Pyramid." Two other items found by Waynman Dixon - a ball and hook - are now housed in the British Museum, but the wood was missing. "The university's collections are vast - running to hundreds of thousands of items - so looking for it has been like finding a needle in a haystack," Abeer added. "I couldn't believe it when I realised what was inside this innocuous-looking cigar tin." Covid restrictions delayed the dating of the rediscovered cedar fragment. Results have recently been returned and show that the wood can be dated to somewhere in the period 3341-3094 BC. 'Quite a revelation' This is said to support the theory that, whatever their use, the so-called Dixon Relics were original to the construction of the Great Pyramid and not later artefacts left behind by those exploring the chambers. Neil Curtis, head of museums and special collections at the University of Aberdeen, said: "Finding the missing Dixon Relic was a surprise but the carbon dating has also been quite a revelation. It is even older than we had imagined. "This may be because the date relates to the age of the wood, maybe from the centre of a long-lived tree. Alternatively, it could be because of the rarity of trees in ancient Egypt, which meant that wood was scarce, treasured and recycled or cared for over many years." He added: "It will now be for scholars to debate its use and whether it was deliberately deposited, as happened later during the New Kingdom, when pharaohs tried to emphasise continuity with the past by having antiquities buried with them. "This discovery will certainly reignite interest in the Dixon Relics and how they can shed light on the Great Pyramid."

We don't know much about the limited edition yet, but in the U.K. it comes in Deep Laguna Blue with a power hatch and lots of goodies on board. Mini is launching a new special-edition Countryman called the Boardwalk. The Countryman is the company's best U.S. seller. The new-for-2021 version of the Countryman went on sale in July. U.S. pricing and quantities on the Boardwalk are expected closer to its spring 2021 launch. Mini is launching a new limited-run, special edition Countryman called the Boardwalk. The company says the name comes from "the promenades of traditional seaside resorts in Britain, home of the Mini brand." It is available in Cooper and Cooper S versions, starting at the equivalent of around $42,000 in the U.K. (Here in the U.S., the regular 2021 Countryman starts just over $27,000.) Mini plans to offer the car here, but an official told Autoweek the automaker is "a bit of a ways" out for the U.S. model, so details are scarce. U.S. production is set for a March time frame, with the first vehicles expected to arrive April/May, the official told us, adding that U.S. pricing and product details are still being worked out. “We’ll do a U.S.-specific announcement sometime in the first quarter closer to market launch that includes such details," Autoweek was told. The Countryman is the company’s best U.S. seller, and the new-for-2021 version went on sale in July. For now, we know that the European version of the Boardwalk has sharp-looking Deep Laguna Blue metallic paint, rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and has a contrasting black roof and black roof rails as well as a power hatch and LED front and rear lights. Inside, the doorsills, the cockpit fascia, and the roof sport unique Boardwalk logos. For the Europe market, Mini is offering more standard equipment including a number of options from regular Countrymans as standard—mood lighting, illuminated handles, and external logo projections from the mirrors are among them. The interior also has piano-black detailing. A digital cockpit is included, too, alongside cruise control with automated emergency braking, automatic climate control, and heated seats. The Navigation package includes an 8.8-inch display, Apple CarPlay capability, and real-time traffic information. There's also park assist, front parking sensors, and front- and rearview cameras. Remember, though, that this is the equipment Europe is getting. We’ll know more about our specs next spring.
