After revealing, on Saturday, his intention to visit Iran, next Monday, the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, announced that his move aims to raise questions about the safety of nuclear facilities there.
Grossi added that he would discuss with Tehran the entry of inspectors into specific facilities.
In turn, the "Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath" correspondent confirmed that Tehran had prevented inspectors from entering two sites, adding that it had not provided answers to issues raised since 2019.
This visit came as fears greatly escalated after the series of strange fires that struck Iran during the past months, without clear disclosure of the causes.
Mysterious explosions and fires
It is noteworthy that Iran had witnessed many "mysterious" fires and explosions during the past two months, which sparked controversy over "deliberate sabotage operations."
The fires were repeated in several sites and industrial facilities, but the most important of them affected sensitive nuclear and military sites, some of which were recognized by the authorities.
The most important explosions were what happened at the Natanz nuclear facility in Isfahan, which destroyed its centrifuges on July 8.
Natanz explosion
In turn, MP Jawad Karimi Qudusi, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, said that the cause of the explosion at the Natanz site was a "security breach."
While the hypotheses of an air strike or cyber attacks were excluded as the cause of the accident at the Natanz facility, the daily "Hamshahri" described the incident in a report on July 8 as a "sabotage attack."
More than 16 fires for two months
The series of "mysterious" explosions and accidents that affected nuclear and military facilities exceeded 16 cases within two months.
Among the most important of these incidents is the explosion of the "Khajir" missile base, east of Tehran, near the "Parchin" military site, on June 26, as well as the targeting of centrifuges for uranium enrichment at the Natanz facility in Isfahan, on July 2, which raised questions about possible attacks. .
Also, recent satellite images revealed that the explosion that occurred on July 10 in Garmadra, west of Tehran, targeted an air base of the Revolutionary Guard.
It is reported that Iran, since the United States withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and re-imposed sanctions, has increased its stockpile of uranium more than 5-fold to more than 1,572 kilograms, and this is enough to make two bombs if Iran chooses to enrich the materials to the point of producing weapons.
