Amazon has made it so that users of the Amazon Fire TV with the pendant design can no longer use the official Amazon Fire TV Game Controller. The controller is incompatible with the Fire TV device after the latest 6.2.5.3 software update for the third-generation device is applied. Scuttlebutt suggests that the Fire TV Cube will also soon lose support for the gamepad. This move wasn't an accident with a new disclaimer at the bottom of the page for the Fire TV Game Controller that reads "not compatible with Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD - Pendant Design, Fire TV Edition smart TVs, or Fire TV Cube." That leaves the only device that is compatible with the Fire TV Game Controller as the Fire TV Stick. The Fire TV Stick is still on sale for $25 for Prime subscribers right now It's unclear why exactly Amazon has removed support of the controller from those devices. Reports indicate that if you have a Fire TV 3 that is running software version 6.2.1.3, the previous version of the software, the Fire TV Controller still connects and works without issue. Another odd tidbit with this is that while the disclaimer says that the Fire TV Game Controller doesn't work with the Fire TV Cube, it is still working as of the latest 6.2.2.4 software according to reports. That particular Fire TV Cube update started rolling out to devices this week. Older devices do still support the game controller including Fire TV 1, Fire TV 2, Fire TV Stick 1. The only current generation device that has official support for the controller is the current generation Fire TV Stick 2. As for why support is being dropped, there is no definitive answer from Amazon. Speculation is that it has to do with the complexity of maintaining support for the odd Wi-Fi Direct connection method the controller uses. It's unclear if Amazon has a new version of the controller in the works that will support current devices.

AMD recently posted its best quarterly earnings in seven years, with its Ryzen and Epyc product lines boosting the company's bottom line. The reception to its Zen-based products is obviously good news for AMD. For rival Intel, however, AMD's resurgence puts added pressure to execute its roadmaps. It also could be leading to price cuts. Where this is particularly interesting is in the server market. After a year on the market, AMD noted that its EPYC sales "continue to accelerate, with new platform deployments and commitments from industry leaders." HPE, for example, launched two new EPYC platforms, including the ProLiant DL325 Gen10 server delivering two-socket performance in a one-socket setup, and Cisco launched its first ever AMD-based UCS server, with EPYC inside. "We had an outstanding second quarter with strong revenue growth, margin expansion and our highest quarterly net income in seven years," AMD president and CEO Dr. Lisa Su said at the time. "Most importantly, we believe our long-term technology bets position us very well for the future. We are confident that with the continued execution of our product roadmaps, we are on an excellent trajectory to drive market share gains and profitable growth." On the heels of AMD's EPYC sales surge, ServeTheHome claims it's heard from a "number of customers" that Intel is giving "significant discounts" for its Xeon processors "to hold AMD EPYC at bay." Those discounts are reportedly happening at quantity levels well below 1,000-unit trays, and not just to its largest customers. It's not clear exactly what kind of price cuts are supposedly occurring, though it's said that discounts and incentives have crept into double-digit percentages. In addition, Intel is "more or less matching the price" of EPYC alternatives for some customers, presumably in a bid to keep or gain their business and maintain market share. "A key trigger seems to be an organization’s willingness to adopt AMD EPYC. Our advice, if you are buying even as few as 50-100 servers, is to get an AMD EPYC system quote from your reseller. Doing so seems to be the trigger for Intel’s discount approvals," STH says. It's certainly worth a shot.

French President Emmanuel Macron has told a young unemployed gardener that there are lots of employers seeking staff. "I can find you a job just by crossing the road," said Mr Macron, after the man brought up his concerns during a street encounter in Paris. The jobseeker replied that employers did not respond to his applications. France has an unemployment rate of about 10%, which is above the European average. Mr Macron has responded by trying to make it easier for businesses to hire and fire staff and he has cut back the state sector, but he has faced protests. Last month he faced criticism after accusing French "Gauls" of being resistant to change. On Sunday, the French president was taking part in a cultural event when his exchange with the gardener was caught on camera. "If you are ready and motivated, in hotels, cafes and construction, everywhere I go people say to me that they are looking for staff," Mr Macron added. Mr Macron initially asked if the man had registered as a jobseeker. "Yes but there's nothing," said the man. "I'm sending all the CVs and letters of motivation but it doesn't lead anywhere. I've sent them to all the town halls but they won't take them," he added, quoted by Le Figaro newspaper. Mr Macron pursued his point however, insisting that he was "sure" that some of the cafes in the Montparnasse area needed staff, Le Parisien newspaper reported. "Frankly I'm sure that one in two of them are recruiting at the moment. Get going!" he said. Unemployment in France is higher than in the Netherlands, where it is just above 5%, or Germany, where it is below 4%. The figure for the UK is below 5%. The EA-owned creators of Titanfall have already offered some teases, revealing that the game will be set in between Episodes 3 and 4 (hello there, Star Wars: Rogue One), when the last pockets of Jedi are being killed off by the Empire. But who will we be playing as? What kind of genre will it be? And will Darth Vader show up? It's all a mystery for the time being, but we've faith that Respawn can pull off something truly excellent for next year's Star Wars gaming portion.

The studio's sophomore game takes that same first-person framework but transports us to a totally different time and place: ancient ruins in Egypt circa the 1920s. You play as Rashida, documenting an adventurous excavation alongside your travel companion Zora by capturing the whole thing on black-and-white, 35mm film. We've only seen a sliver of what's in store - though it seems like the less you know about Campo Santo's games before going into them, the better - but what's there already looks enchanting. If you've got a thing for pyramids and towering sphinx statues (perhaps off the back of Assassin's Creed Origins) In The Valley of Gods promises a gripping narrative and one hell of a historical setting.

You play as a hardened survivor slowly making your way across Russia during a harsh nuclear winter, fending off gigantic rats in abandoned subway tunnels and scavenging for supplies topside. Just be sure to keep an eye out for any radioactive bears that could get the jump on you.

A third playable character will be introduced as well but details are scant at this point. All we know is that the story will take place several years after the events of 4. We’ve already waited about 10 years since the release of Devil May Cry 4. With 5 aiming for Q1 2019, the next iteration of the series is finally in sight

If you thought dual cameras were all the rage these days, then Huawei has a thing or two (or three) to say with its triple-camera Mate P20 Pro. But when is three rear cameras not enough? When you can shoehorn in four cameras, of course. That's apparently what Samsung will have in store for us at all a Galaxy event that is scheduled for October 11th Samsung announced the event today on its press site, saying that it will deliver "4X fun". Given that rumors have been swirling for months about a quadruple-camera Galaxy device, the timing appears to be right for such an introduction. Unfortunately, the invitation to the event, which will be streamed live via Samsung.com, doesn't provide any further details on what to expect from this new camera system. We'd really like to know how four cameras is going to better the photography experience, especially when companies like Google (and now Apple) are delivering stunning results -- complete with bokeh effects -- with a single rear camera. SamMobile seems to suggest that Samsung will announces a new Galaxy A9 and Galaxy A9+ with the quad-camera arrangement, and that they will be available in 64GB and 128GB capacities in black, gold, blue and pink. We should mention that adding four rear cameras to the Galaxy A Series instead of the flagship Galaxy S Series plays right into comments made recently by Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh. “In the past, I brought the new technology and differentiation to the flagship model and then moved to the mid-end,” said Koh in an interview last week with CNBC. “I have changed my strategy from this year to bring technology and differentiation points starting from the mid-end. How can I deliver meaningful innovation to our millennials? That's the reason I'm trying to differentiate the mid-section."

Rumblings started back in June that Microsoft had some new hardware planned for 2019. Some were surprised when Microsoft sent out invites earlier this month to a hardware event that is suggested to be for the unveiling of new Surface hardware. One of the devices expected at that hardware event scheduled for October 2 is the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2. Ahead of that event, a slew of images has leaked that claim to be of the new laptop in its various colors. The colors seen in the images include a new black laptop that reportedly replaces the Graphite Gold version offered last year. Other colors include Cobalt Blue, Burgundy, and Platinum. As for hardware expected in the machine the same screen as last year is rumored, a 13.5-inch PixelSense touchscreen display with a native resolution of 2256x1504 and 3:2 aspect ratio The keyboard will still be covered in Alcantara fabric with a large touchpad underneath, and most of the ports are still on the left side of the machine. Those connectivity options include a USB 3.0 Type-A port, mini DisplayPort, 3.5mm headphone port, and a Surface Connect port. The machine is expected to be Surface Dial compatible and to have a Windows Hello webcam. On the audio front, the machine is expected to get Dolby Audio Premium speakers and stereo microphones. The updates are expected to be newer 8th gen Intel Core processors and maybe more storage. No other major changes to the device are expected. The higher-end Surface Laptop 2 devices were tipped to take advantage of Whiskey Lake Intel CPUs in Core i5 and Core i7 flavors. Whiskey Lakechips happen to be facing a shortage right now severe enough to slow laptop shipments to the point that DRAM prices are being driven down. An oversupply of DRAM pushing prices down is something that is good for consumers. If Microsoft does add Whiskey Lake parts, expect to see those models hit with shipping delays early on. As for what else to expect at the hardware event, the Surface Pro is expected to get an update. A mystery device called Andromeda might launch, something Microsoft has promised will "create a truly personal and versatile computing experience." Andromeda is expected to be a new computing form factor that is pocketable that Microsoft and its partners will build.

Some 14 people have been killed in a massive storm which brought destruction to the northern Philippines, a presidential adviser says. Typhoon Mangkhut ripped through the Philippines' main island of Luzon, and is now moving west towards China. The storm tore off roofs, felled trees, triggered 42 landslides and caused extensive flooding. Mangkhut unleashed winds of 185km/h (115mph) as it careered from east to west across the north of Luzon. Five million people were in its path, and thousands were evacuated. How bad is the damage? Almost all buildings in the city of Tuguegarao - the capital city of the north-eastern Cagayan province - sustained some damage, a government official said, and communications were down in places. Francis Tolentino, a political adviser to President Rodrigo Duterte, said up to 14 people were killed as a result of the storm. Two rescuers died trying to help people trapped in a landslide. Unverified reports say the body of a young girl was found in the Marikina river, which flows through Manila. The mayor of the Baguio City said five people were killed there. Mauricio Domogan told CNN Philippines a similar number were also missing and the sewerage system was being overwhelmed by the floodwaters. The evacuation centre in the coastal town of Aparri is said to have been destroyed and phone networks are down. BBC correspondent Jonathan Head, who is in Luzon, saw 200 people who had taken shelter in one school being re-evacuated because a dyke holding back a swollen river was about to burst. The full cost of Typhoon Mangkhut on one of the country's most important food-producing regions cannot yet be assessed, he says. The typhoon recalls memories of the deadliest storm on record in the Philippines - Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 - which killed more than 7,000. However, preparation and evacuation procedures have been improved since then. What is the storm's path? The typhoon made landfall at Baggao, in the north-east of the Philippines, at about 01:40 local time on Saturday (17:40 GMT on Friday), and left the country some 20 hours later. After losing some of its wind speed over land as it headed west, the storm was downgraded from a super typhoon. It is forecast to weaken slightly as it approaches China from the south-east. The storm - known locally as Ompong - has a cloud diameter of about 900km and is heading west at about 30km/h. The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) billed the storm as the strongest tropical cyclone the world has faced so far this year. The typhoon is forecast to pass near Hong Kong on Sunday afternoon. In nearby Macau, shops have been boarded up and residents have been sticking tape on their windows. The typhoon is expected to weaken into a tropical depression by Tuesday.
