A fire at Somerset House in central London has been contained after around 125 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze. In a joint press conference with the arts venue, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said firefighters are now working to "extinguish the final pockets of fire" located in the roof space. The fire broke out in the west wing just before midday, and the historic landmark will remain closed "until further notice". There were no artworks in that part of the building, a spokesman said. There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Thick grey smoke could be seen billowing into the air from the landmark building, over the River Thames and nearby Waterloo Bridge. Speaking to reporters, the LFB's assistant commissioner Keeley Foster said firefighters carried out a "complex and technical response". They will remain at the scene into tomorrow, she added. She was joined by Somerset House's director Jonathan Reekie, who said: "It's too early to comment on the building's condition." He added the venue will remain closed until further notice, but the Courtauld Gallery will reopen to the public tomorrow. In an earlier social media post, Somerset House said the venue was closed due to the fire, and all events on Saturday would not take place. Following evacuation from the venue, staff and visitors were seen standing outside. "Everybody is safe, there are no valuable artefacts or artworks in that part of the building," Mr Reekie told the BBC earlier. "For now we just want to let the London Fire Brigade get on and do their brilliant work." Due to heavy smoke, the London Ambulance Service asked people to avoid the area and told local businesses to keep windows and doors shut. Arts minister Sir Chris Bryant said he hopes the venue can reopen as soon as possible, and that his department is in touch with them. "I am sorry to hear about the fire at Somerset House, this historic building is home to some of London's great galleries and creative spaces." Somerset House is on the Strand in central London and is currently used as an arts venue. The Georgian era buildings and square were built on the site of a palace dating back to the Tudors. The venue is also home to the Courtauld Gallery, an art museum which houses the collection of the Samuel Courtauld Trust, including masterpieces ranging from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Vincent Van Gogh's Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear is part of the Courtauld collection, which also includes works by Impressionists Edouard Manet, Claude Monet and Paul Cezanne. Somerset House regularly hosts exhibitions, experiences and ice skating within its famous courtyard. LFB said its crews were tackling flames which are "located in part of the buildings roof". Twenty fire engines including crews from Soho, Islington and surrounding fire stations are at the scene, the Brigade added. Four aerial ladders were employed by the LFB, including one 64m long, to help tackle the blaze, the Brigade's assistant commissioner said. The Met Police said officers were called at 12:25 and attended along with LFB firefighters. Road closures were in place, the force said adding nobody is thought to be inside Somerset House. Infinix has made steady efforts to make its presence felt in the laptop segment. The brand has consistently launched laptops that cater to different segments like gaming or thin and light categories. With the launch of its Inbook Air Pro+, the company plans to disrupt the market with some value-for-money proposition. Priced at Rs. 49,990, the latest laptop from the brand comes loaded with some interesting specifications, including a slim and lightweight design, a 13th Intel Core i5 processor, an OLED display, and more. So, does it make sense to go for this laptop? Let's find out in this in-depth review. Infinix Inbook Air Pro+ Laptop Design: Sleek and Lightweight Infinix has made sure you get some premium-looking laptops at this price segment with the latest machine. At a time when most of the affordable laptops come with not-so-great designs, the Infinix Inbook Air Pro+ stands out with its sleek and light profile. The laptop weighs 1kg and offers 4.5mm thickness at the slimmest point, making it one lightest and thinnest laptops in this segment. The device is available in two colour options: Silver and Brown. I got the former for the review, and it sure gives a decent look, though you might find some similarities to the MacBook Air in terms of design. The laptop shell is made using aluminium and magnesium alloy, which offers some durability. The built quality is decent enough. The lid provides a smooth texture with the brand's logo at the centre. However, the sturdiness of the lid is not so great. First of all, you will feel some tightness when opening the lid, and the hinge does not feel that strong as the wobble issue persists here. Opening the lid, you will find a backlit keyboard and a large touchpad. As for the ports, the laptop offers a decent amount of ports for everyday usage. You get two USB Type-C ports and a HDMI port on the left side. On the right side, there is a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C port. That said, the Infinix Inbook Air Pro+ does offer a sleek design language, which is surely a plus point in this price segment. Coming to the display, the Infinix Inbook Air Pro+ packs a decent display in a compact form factor. The device is packed with a 2.8K (1800x2880 pixel) resolution and offers a 14-inch OLED display. The colour reproduction of the device is really good, and you will enjoy watching movies on it. The saturation levels are good enough, all thanks to the OLED screen. The laptop also has a 120Hz screen refresh rate, making the animation much smoother than the standard 60Hz panels. The laptop comes loaded with up to 440 nits of peak brightness, which is good enough for the indoor work environment. However, it is not that great for outdoor conditions, primarily because of the reflective screen. So, if a light source is directly behind you, you might face some trouble using the laptop's screen. Nvidia has announced a new generative AI audio tool called Fugatto, which it's describing as the "world's most flexible sound machine" – capable of producing all kinds of music, speech, and other audio, and even unique sounds that have never been heard before. Fugatto, which is short for Foundational Generative Audio Transformer Opus 1, can work with text prompts and audio samples. You can simply describe what you want to hear, or get the AI model to modify or combine existing audio clips. For example, you can have the sound of a train transform into a lush orchestral arrangement, or mix a banjo melody with the sounds of rainfall. You can hear the sound of a saxophone barking, or a flute meowing, just by typing in a prompt. Fugatto can also isolate vocals from tracks, and change the vocal delivery style, as well as generate speech from scratch. Feed in an existing melody, and you can have it played on whatever instrument you like, in any kind of style. So how can you try out this impressive new AI technology? You can't, for the time being: you'll have to make do with Nvidia's promo video and a website of samples. There's no word yet on when Fugatto will be available for public testing. Some of the samples published by Nvidia include the sound of a female voice barking, a factory machine screaming, a typewriter whispering, and a cello shouting with anger. The Black Friday deals are in full swing, stretching from a week or two before the actual date until Cyber Monday and beyond. One thing you won't find as a real deal: Nvidia's RTX 4090, or for that matter, most of the Ada Lovelace RTX 40-series GPUs, AMD's RDNA 3 RX 7000-series GPUs, and even Intel's Arc Alchemist GPUs. While many of these are still technically among the best graphics cards, it's no secret that all three GPU manufacturers are planning to launch their next-gen architectures within the near future. And with RTX 4090 prices skyrocketing — they're often starting far above $2,000, never mind the original $1,599 MSRP — the best advice for anyone looking to buy a high-end GPU is to wait. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will give the keynote at CES 2025, where he's widely expected to reveal the consumer range of Blackwell GPUs — or at least the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. The cards themselves will likely go on sale before the end of January. For that reason, we're seeing more and more RTX 4090s appearing as out-of-stock and prices on them skyrocketing, even as they near the end of their life. It seems like Nvidia may have limited or stopped production on them in anticipation of the next-gen launch. Prices on the 5090 in particular could be sky-high, meaning perhaps a $1,999 MSRP (though that's just a ballpark guess), but considering the 4090 already sells for that much, why not wait for what could be a true behemoth of a GPU? Hopefully the RTX 5080 comes in closer to $999, though we suspect it's more likely to inherit the $1,199 MSRP of its predecessor — and depending on performance, it could go higher than that (but let's hope not). There are also rumors that Nvidia could be planning a sooner-than-later release of an RTX 5070 Ti, possibly in January or February. If that matches the outgoing generation on pricing, it would still be a $799 MSRP — definitely high-end — but presumably with a decent performance uplift over the existing RTX 4070 Ti Super as well. AMD's RDNA 4 GPUs are coming as well, though rumors are less concrete about when they'll arrive and what their specs might be. The most solid information indicates that AMD won't be going after the crown with a halo product, but that's hardly news — the RX 7900 XTX didn't try to take down the RTX 4090 either. Will there be an 8900 XTX (or maybe 9900 XTX if AMD decides to align its names again) that delivers higher performance than the current 7900 XTX? Probably, but just as important will be the cost for whatever level of performance we get. Intel's Battlemage GPUs meanwhile are rumored to start arriving as early as December — with reports that the first GPU will be the Arc B580. Based on the name alone, that appears to be the successor to the current Arc A580, a decidedly budget-oriented offering that currently costs $169, and importantly it will come with 12GB of VRAM according to leaks. Presumably, there will also be Arc B770 or similar cards at some point with 16GB of memory. Based on our recent integrated graphics showdown, the Xe2 GPUs could offer a sizeable boost in performance over the current Intel GPUs, but there's also a massive gap right now in performance. Again, bang for the buck will be an important metric. So, Intel will almost certainly target the budget to midrange segment, perhaps in the $200 to $300 range. How an Arc B580 will fare against cards like the existing RTX 4060 / 4060 Ti and RX 7600 XT / 7700 XT remains to be seen, but waiting another month or so can't hurt. Letting you live out your zombie apocalypse fantasies, it was also one of the more challenging plagues to propogate. But, have you ever wondered what happened after you closed that scenario? Well, welcome to After Inc, where you'll find out. While it does marginally tie into Plague Inc, After Inc is more of a standalone release that merely uses the Necroa virus as a fun bit of backstory. But this survival strategy sim sees you take on the now-familiar role of a leader rebuilding society after a zombie apocalypse has ravaged it and whittled humanity to the metaphorical bone. Ndemic, who has branched out into all manner of societal simulators such as Rebel Inc, are well-suited for a genre like this. You'll, naturally, have to not only rebuild material conditions but also balance your approach, survive frigid winters and natural events, as well as the ravening hordes of undead that are still out there. Think you've got what it takes? Try it now on Android and iOS! What I personally find interesting is not only the little neat throwback to Plague Inc with the Necroa virus but also that Ndemic seems tied to that artefact title of "Inc" anyhow. I somehow imagine Plague Inc would've had you playing a more overtly malevolent group at one point because, after all, I can't see a post-apocalyptic survivalist council exactly being like an incorporated company. In any case, for fans of Ndemic's previous releases, and those of you looking for a proper zombie apocalypse-rebuilding simulator from a developer with a suitable pedigree, this will be an exciting release.
