Hello! We’re excited to announce that we've just shipped a new version of the Steam Client to everyone. This update includes all the new Steam Desktop features that have been tested and fine-tuned in the beta branch. Before we get into the details, we want to thank our beta testers really quick – we couldn’t have shipped without all of your invaluable feedback and bug reports! New framework, new foundation The most impactful changes in this update aren’t immediately visible; much of the work went into changing how we share code across the Steam Desktop Client, Big Picture mode, and Steam Deck. These changes also means quicker implementation and iteration of new features. For example, many of the features in this update (like Notes in the overlay) are simultaneously shipping on Steam Deck because of the shared codebase. Steam gets a fresh coat of paint This update also brings targeted visual and usability improvements across Steam - we've gone through and updated dialogs, menus, fonts, and colors. The main Steam header and footer, Settings, and the Screenshot Manager are just a few examples of spots with refreshed UI. Richer, more useful notifications Steam notifications have been updated and improved to be more useful to you. The green bell only lights up when there's truly something new for you. The tray view is limited to new notifications, and there's a "View all" page with a historical view. We’ve also added new notifications specific settings, so you can control the notifications you’ll see, and where you’ll see them. Redesigned in-game overlay We’ve completely overhauled the in-game overlay (accessible via Shift+Tab while in-game). It's got a brand-new user interface, adding new utility and allowing for more customizability. There is a new toolbar, giving you access to anything you may need in the middle of a game – friends chat, achievements progress, guides, discussions, a browser, and more. We've picked a few overlay windows to show by default, and you can pick and personalize the pieces of content you’d like to see in your own overlay – settings are saved between games. Introducing Notes The new Notes feature lets you jot down notes about the game that you’re currently playing. It comes with rich text formatting, the ability to paste images, multiple notes per game, and can even be used in offline mode. These notes are saved per game and are synced across to any other PCs (or Steam Decks!) you are logged into. They are also accessible outside the in-game overlay, on the game details page. Pin to game We've also added the ability to pin windows from the overlay, so that they can appear on top of the game - while in-game. The opacity level of these windows is adjustable, and only the contents of the window will be pinned, excluding the title bar and other extraneous UI. This new functionality is available for Notes, Guides, Discussions, Achievements, and the web browser. This feature is perfect for keeping track of progress or guides while in-game, or for multi-tasking maniacs who love to have a movie on in the background while they game. And more... And that's not all! The overlay now includes a Game Overview panel: your one-stop shop to see what’s going on with the game since you last played it. It shows what achievements you have in progress, which friends are also playing, top guides, news, and more. In addition, the browser, achievements, and screenshot manager windows have been updated (both in the overlay and in the desktop client). The controller experience has been improved as well. The updated controller configurator from Steam Deck is now part of the overlay when a gamepad is connected, and virtual menus can now be used while gaming on Desktop. Mac and Linux The technical work in this update makes it possible to enable hardware acceleration for the Mac & Linux versions of Steam, bringing them up to par with Windows. You should see snappier animations, scrolling and more responsive UI. That's about it. You can see all of the updates and improvements in the full patch notes. As always, we love to hear from you so please let us know what you want to see next.

Valve has confirmed a new iteration of the Steam Deck is indeed in the works, even calling it “Steam Deck 2” by name, but there’s one thing holding them back; performance. Two years ago Valve helped change the game with the release of the Steam Deck. While the Nintendo Switch put handheld gaming back in the spotlight, it wasn’t until the Steam Deck that modern titles had a chance of running on anything portable. Ever since, we’ve seen all sorts of competitors stake their claim in the market, be it the ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion. And while Valve is “heartened” by the competition, they’re already hard at work toiling away at what comes next. In speaking with Hardware Engineer Yazan Aldehayyat and Designer Jay Shaw at PAX Australia, the two were candid about Steam Deck’s future, openly discussing its next iteration with us while outlining the steps ahead. Steam Deck 2 is happening, just not anytime soon Given the Steam Deck itself is still relatively new, with OLED models only recently spicing things up, there’s no urgency for a new model, especially not a full-fledged successor. Nonetheless, Valve is already openly talking about just that. While it’s obviously early days yet and there’s nothing specific to be announced, “We’re most certainly looking to the future,” Shaw assured. “Everything we’ve worked on up until now has led to the Steam Deck in the hardware space, and this is continuing to inform a bunch of decisions we’re making going forward.” Valve is working on a Steam Deck 2 but there’s just one thing holding it back - Dexerto

I have played a lot of deck-building card games as of late, so I am always interested to see if new titles to the genre follow the other po[CENSORED]r entries or if they try to reinvent it and make it their own. Developers Dusklight CO. LTD have joined the ranks with their turn-based roguelike game, Zoeti. In this new title, you battle enemies using a deck of standard playing cards — no crazy-themed cards here — to activate skills and use card combos to defeat your enemies. When you begin the game, you see that there is both a Story Mode and an Adventure Mode, but only the first is unlocked for you to select. The story goes, there were two goddesses: Zoeti, the one who watched over the Moon, Sun, and stars, and Nesis, an evil goddess who reigned over Demonkind. One day, conflict erupted between the two of them with Zoeti standing victorious. The demon goddess now defeated; her body transformed into evil Soulstone Fragments that fell into the Mortal World. These would attach themselves to the creatures living there, mutating them into Fiends bent on making the Mortal World a nightmarish Hell. Zoeti Review | GameGrin

Venezuela lost its final glacier this year. The Greenland Ice Sheet is losing, on average, 30 million tons of ice per hour. Ice loss from the Thwaites Glacier, also known as the “Doomsday” glacier because its collapse could precipitate rapid Antarctic ice loss, may be unstoppable. These are just a few of the stark findings from more than 50 leading snow and ice scientists, which are detailed in a new report from the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative. The report summarizes the state of snow and ice in 2024: In short, experts agree, it’s been a horrible year for the frozen parts of Earth, an expected result of global warming. What’s more, top cryosphere scientists are growing increasingly worried that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), a key ocean current that governs how heat cycles in the Atlantic Ocean, is on a path toward collapse. A rapid halt to the current would cause rapid cooling in the North Atlantic, warming in the Southern Hemisphere and extreme changes in precipitation. If that happens, the new report suggests, northern Europe could cool by about 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit in a decade. The report highlights a shift in consensus: Scientists once thought tipping points — like the collapse of AMOC — were distant or remote possibilities. Now, some of those thresholds are appearing more likely to be crossed, and with less runway to turn the situation around. “The latest science is not telling us that things are any different to what we knew before, necessarily, but it’s telling us with more confidence and more certainty that these things are more likely to happen,” said Helen Findlay, an author of the report and a professor and biological oceanographer at Plymouth Marine Laboratory in England. “The longer we record these things, and the longer we’re able to observe them and start to understand and monitor them, there’s more certainty in the system and we start to really understand how these tipping points are working.” A key Atlantic current could collapse, scientists warn

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s new commission to slash government spending began soliciting applications for staff jobs Thursday, saying it wants to hire “revolutionaries” who score highly on IQ tests. “We need super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries willing to work 80+ hours per week on unglamorous cost-cutting,” the so-called Department of Government Efficiency said on X. “If that’s you, DM this account with your CV. Elon & Vivek will review the top 1% of applicants,” the post said. Musk said separately that the jobs would be unpaid but that they would “greatly help America.” “Indeed, this will be tedious work, make lots of enemies & compensation is zero,” he wrote. “What a great deal!” President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday that he was appointing the two businessmen to jointly head up the advisory board to suggest spending cuts, target regulations for elimination and put forward ideas to restructure federal agencies. Musk and Ramaswamy have called for sweeping changes to federal programs, such as mass layoffs and deep cuts. Musk is the CEO of SpaceX, which has $3.8 billion in contracts with federal agencies this year, according to government data. It’s not clear whether that spending is on the table for possible cuts. He is also the CEO of Tesla and the owner of X. On Wednesday, Musk called for cutting grant money to nonprofit groups. “‘Government-funded non-governmental organizations’ is obviously a contradiction in terms,” he wrote on X. “They are just an illegal arm of the government.” Musk’s DOGE seeks ‘super high-IQ’ staff for unpaid jobs

It was the annual Kukur Puja festival in Nepal on Thursday, and dogs across the nation were draped in marigold garlands, marked with celebratory vermillion pigment and presented with overflowing platters of treats. Like Diwali in India, the five-day Hindu festival of Tihar, being celebrated this week in Nepal, is a festival of lights. Unlike Diwali, Tihar includes the worship of creatures, and Kukur Puja, on its second day, is dedicated to dogs. According to Hindu mythology, dogs are the messengers of Yamaraj, the god of death. His two four-eyed dogs are said to track down the dying and guard their path into his realm. Celebrating dogs is believed to please Yamaraj. All dogs, including pets, strays and working dogs, are worshipped. At the Armed Police Force canine center in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, service dogs lined up with their handlers. One by one, police officers marked their foreheads with vermillion, draped them in flowers and presented them with snacks in a ritual appreciation of their role in providing security. In Nepal, all good dogs are worshipped

Two hours isn't enough time to see all the branching stories, admire all the beautiful graphics, and discover all the secrets within the world of STALKER 2. But it is enough to be left impressed. When I wasn't taking stock of my paltry ammunition levels and hunger gauge, I was looking out at beautiful fields of red poppy flowers. When I wasn’t getting distracted by an interesting side quest I was doing my best to lure the mutants into an anomaly trap. And while it was over just when it felt like it was getting extra good, it had still left its impression. The impression that the team at GSC Game World has created something special with STALKER 2. I will preface all this by admitting that I am not a STALKER expert, meaning I have not played the 2000s hits. But I probably should be, because I am a huge fan of games that offer us various options for dealing with a story scenario – especially those where one seemingly small decision can have effects that ripple through the rest of your playthrough. That’s what this series (which began with 2007’s Shadow of Chernobyl and was built on in Call of Pripyat in 2009) is best known for, and it’s what stuck with me the most from my handful of hours with STALKER 2. I kept thinking about the decisions I had made and wondering if I had made a mistake by choosing a violent, guns-blazing approach and wondering if I should have tried a stealthy or even fully peaceful one, but STALKER 2 takes it several steps further. There are times you’ll have NPCs abruptly end a quest without rewarding you because you’ve looted the body of their dead friend, for example. Have that happen a couple of times and it’ll give you pause even when you’re doing the kind of routine task that you normally wouldn’t even think about. There are some games that keep you entertained for a weekend. Some keep you busy for an hour on a weeknight after failing to settle on what new Netflix documentary to watch next. But then, every so often, a game like Balatro turns up and takes hold of your entire life – to the point where you open up your wardrobe and the only four suits your eyes can make out are clubs, spades, diamonds, and hearts. This poker-influenced roguelike may appear straightforward at first, but take the risk of picking it up, and its ludicrously fun gameplay loop won’t let you put it down. Never has the power of placing down a simple pair of kings garnered more delight than in Balatro, where it can suddenly conjure up an 82 x 146 multiplier as you watch the resulting equation satisfyingly solve itself in front of you. A deck-building roguelike quite like no other, it sacrifices the combat that has made so many in the genre such as Slay the Spire po[CENSORED]r, and doesn’t even attempt a story that the likes of Hades told so well. Instead, Balatro relies solely on the power of playing cards to keep you engaged, and it does so with aplomb, gripping my attention tight with its relatively simple but effective toolset. The EV3 is Kia’s first compact EV, a car that has excited observers in the design world for transferring the XXL EV9’s maximal Minecraft aesthetic onto a smaller platform. Its wheel arches are blocky, its sills are fashionably pinched, and even the wheels themselves have a square motif. It looks like the family transport the future promised us, and from where I’m currently sitting—the back seat on a four-up run to the airport—it feels big-car comfortable. Kia has worked hard to reduce the triple bugbears of noise, vibration, and harshness, and their absence is palpable. Concept-car-made-real design isn’t the only thing that’s generating major buzz. The EV3 claims the most substantial range of a smallish electric car, an impressive 375 miles (WLTP). It’s also packed with tech usually reserved for upper segment cars. And despite its relatively compact size (4.3 meters long, 1.85 meters wide), it’s roomy enough inside to support Kia’s claim that this could be the household’s main car. There’s a 25-liter frunk, and up to 1,250 liters of luggage space at the back. All told, a tipping point has been reached in the fast moving EV landscape. Did we mention that prices start from £32,995? US fans will have to wait, however, as it's expected to land stateside in 2026 for around $35,000. That’s for the entry-level Air model fitted with a 58.3-kWh battery, though you’ll need £10,000 on top of that for the Long Range GT-Line S version with the 81.4-kWh battery which delivers that eye-catching 375-mile figure. It arrives into a busy sector, the EV3 lining up alongside the likes of the Volkswagen I.D3 and Volvo EX30, although it’s a better equipped, more value-for-money proposition than those premium rivals. Old habits die hard. Kia EV3 Review: Price, Specs, Availability | WIRED

The Philadelphia Eagles secured a key divisional win Thursday night, beating the Washington Commanders 26-18. After a slow start, the Eagles scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter after having trailed for much of the game. Saquon Barkley ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns — Philly’s final two scores of the night. Jayden Daniels, the Commanders’ rookie sensation, was held in check. He completed 22 of 32 passes for only 191 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Daniels bobbled the snap and couldn’t run for a first down on a fourth-down attempt late in the fourth, when Washington was trailing only 12-10. Barkley ran for his first touchdown soon after the failed conversion, then Daniels was picked off on Washington’s next possession, leading to another Barkley score. The Commanders added a touchdown and a two-point conversion with under 30 seconds to go, but it proved to be inconsequential. The defenses dominated much of the night, as Washington held a 7-3 lead at halftime. The Commanders scored on their second drive thanks to a relatively short 58-yard field. Meanwhile, the Eagles had two three-and-outs and two missed field goals in the first half before they finally made a 21-yard field goal shortly before the end of the second quarter. The teams traded three points to start the half before Philly finally took the lead early in the fourth after an 11-play, 76-yard drive that ended in a Jalen Hurts tush-push touchdown. Jake Elliott missed the extra point, but on their next drive, the Commanders tried to pick up a fourth-and-2 instead of kicking a 44-yard field goal. Daniels couldn’t run for it, and Washington’s defense fell apart soon after. Philadelphia is now 8-2, with a 2½-game lead over the Commanders in the NFC East. The Eagles have won six in a row and will play the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12. Washington has lost two in a row to fall to 7-4. It will play the Dallas Cowboys next. 'Thursday Night Football' highlights: Philadelphia Eagles defeat Washington Commanders 26-18 to take control in NFC East
