  1. the equalizer (2014) The Equalizer is a 2014 American vigilante action film directed by Antoine Fuqua, loosely based on the 1980s TV series of the same name. Written by Richard Wenk, it stars Denzel Washington, Marton Csokas, Chloë Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo. The film focuses on a former U.S. Marine turned DIA intelligence officer who reluctantly returns to action to protect a teenage prostitute from members of the Russian mafia. Principal photography began in June 2013 in Massachusetts. The Equalizer had its world premiere at 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2014, and was released worldwide on September 26, 2014, in conventional and IMAX theaters. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the visual style, direction, acting, soundtrack, and action sequences but criticized its depictions of violence and plot. Nonetheless, it became a commercial success with a worldwide gross of over $192 million on a production budget of $55–73 million. A sequel was released on July 20, 2018, with Washington, Wenk, and Fuqua returning. A third film is in the works with Washington reprising his role and Fuqua returning to direct. Plot Robert McCall lives in Boston, working at a Home Mart hardware store while spending some late nights reading in a diner where he befriends Alina, a teenage prostitute working under the name Teri for the Russian mafia. One night, Alina is hospitalized after being beaten by her pimp, Slavi. McCall visits Alina's hospital room and speaks with her friend, Mandy, then visits Slavi and offers to buy Alina's freedom. Slavi refuses, so McCall kills Slavi and his men. Vladimir Pushkin, Slavi's boss and a powerful Russian mafia kingpin, sends his enforcer, Teddy Rensen, to find and eliminate the culprit. Rensen visits Mandy, questioning her about who could have killed Slavi. Mandy tells him what she knows about the "black man" who had come to visit Alina in the hospital. Teddy then kills her. Rensen tracks down and visits McCall at his apartment, posing as a police officer, and later makes an unsuccessful attempt to capture him. McCall then visits old friend and DIA colleague Susan Plummer, who uses her resources to give him information on Pushkin and his operations. Plummer also informs McCall that Teddy Rensen's real name is Nicolai Itchenko and he is a former member of the Russian secret police with Spetsnaz training. McCall subdues Frank Masters, a crooked detective on Pushkin's payroll. From Masters, McCall obtains a memory stick loaded with information about Pushkin's illegal activities, which he emails to the FBI. McCall then confronts Nicolai at a restaurant, revealing that he knows his history and pledging to bring down Pushkin's criminal enterprise. Later, McCall destroys oil tankers belonging to Pushkin. Nicolai and his henchmen go to the Home Mart store and take several of McCall's co-workers hostage. After arriving at the store, McCall kill Nicolai's henchmen one by one, and eventually confronts Nicolai and kills him with a nail gun. Three days later, McCall travels to Moscow, kills all of Pushkin's guards at his mansion, and tricks him into electrocuting himself. After his return to the United States, McCall is approached by Alina outside a neighborhood grocery store, learning that she has started a new life after being freed from Slavi's control. She thanks McCall for giving her a second chance. McCall is inspired to continue using his skills to help people in need and posts an online advertisement, now identifying himself as "The Equalizer". Cast [Denzel Washington] as Robert McCall [Marton Csokas] as Nicolai Itchenko (Teddy Rensen) [Chloë Grace Moretz] as Teri (Alina) [David Harbour] as Masters [Haley Bennett] as Mandy [Bill Pullman] as Brian Plummer [Melissa Leo] as Susan Plummer [David Meunier] as Slavi [Johnny Skourtis] as Ralphie [Alex Veadov] as Tevi [Vladimir Kulich] as Vladimir Pushkin [E. 3. These new wireless earbuds are the most hyped new product in tech right now. Backed by the likes of Tony Fadell, who invented the iPod, and Casey Neistat, one of YouTube’s most revered vloggers, there’s a huge amount of buzz surrounding this product that aims to bring premium audio performance at a wallet-friendly price bracket. It’s something that the company’s CEO Carl Pei had a track record for at his previous mobile phone company, OnePlus, which specialised in unfussy smartphones with powerful chipsets. We can’t vouch for the sound yet, but we love the design and retro-futurism aesthetic. For the price, there’s an impressive set of features, including variable levels of noise cancellation, water- and splash-resistance and customisable gesture controls on the earbuds themselves. £99
  4. Intel's top-of-the-line i9-12900KS desktop CPU clocked at 5.5 GHz starts pre-selling at US$781, slated to ship in early March The fastest Alder Lake-S processor is expected to launch in early March with a considerable price bump over the existing i9-12900K. For an additional US$200, one would get 5.5 GHz boost clocks by default with 260 W PL2. Availability for Intel’s Alder Lake desktop processors is finally picking up and it looks like a newer top-of-the-line i9-12900KS models will also arrive in just a few weeks. As previously spotted by momomo_us on twitter, the i9-12900KS appeared on some undisclosed retailer listings a few days ago. Now, momomo_us is back with a few more spec details, plus we are getting an estimated release date complete with prices from online retailer ShopBLT, thanks to a Videocardz report. From momomo_us’s previous leak, we already know that Intel’s Core i9-12900KS CPUs have a higher boost clock of 5.5 GHz (up 300 MHz from the K model), and the base power is upped by 25 W to 150W. Additional info is now revealing that the base clocks are also upped by 200 MHz to 3.4 GHz, while the PL2 is upped by 19 W to 260W max. ShopBLT has the i9-12900KS model pre-selling at US$780.79, with an additional similar model stepping P5 available for US$791.74. These are available in bulk trays with no fancy packaging, usually bought by OEMs. Estimated time of shipping is set to March 3rd or around 3 weeks from now. Considering the US$598 price for the i9-12900K models that can easily be overclocked to 5.5 GHz (although you are voiding the warranty if anything happens to the CPU), the US$780 price for the KS processor could seem unjustified. On the other hand, it is unclear if this is indeed the MSRP from Intel, and prices could fall as more retailers list the new KS models.
  5. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a 2021 action-adventure game developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by Square Enix's European subsidiary. Based on the Marvel Comics superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy, the game was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 26, 2021. The game received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for its narrative and visuals, but criticism for its combat, which was considered repetitive. In Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, the player assumes control of Peter Quill / Star-Lord from a third-person perspective. The player can utilize Star-Lord's elemental guns to defeat enemies, and fly through the air using his jet boots.[1] Other members of the titular team, which include Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Drax the Destroyer, are not directly playable as they are controlled by artificial intelligence, but players can issue commands to them during combat. Each character has their own unique skills and abilities which can be chained together to inflict more damage.[2] As the player fight enemies, a meter will build up and allow players to unleash a special ability known as "Team Huddle", which prompts Star-Lord to create a motivational speech and play a song to inspire his teammates. A good speech will grant the other Guardians gameplay benefits, though Star-Lord's abilities will be boosted regardless of the quality of the speech.[3] At various points of the game, the player can make key decisions, via dialogue trees, that will affect the relationships between the Guardians and the outcomes of certain missions. Throughout the game, Star-Lord's decisions will be referenced by his teammates.[4] Despite the branching dialogue paths, the core story remains the same and the game has one ending.[5]
  6. Safe House (2012 film) Safe House is a 2012 American action thriller film directed by Daniel Espinosa. The film follows Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds), a CIA officer on a low-level posting in Cape Town who is in charge of a safe house where the CIA is interrogating Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington), a veteran operative who has allegedly betrayed the agency. When the safe house is attacked by mercenaries who kill almost all the operatives, Weston flees with Frost in his charge, and they end up on the run. As the team of killers, who seem to be one step ahead of the pair, track them throughout Cape Town, Weston begins to wonder who to trust. Filming took place in Cape Town, South Africa. The film premiered in New York City on February 7, 2012, and was released in U.S. theaters on February 10, 2012.[4] It earned mixed reviews, with praise for Washington and Reynolds' performances, but criticisms for the screenplay and editing on the action scenes, and was a commercial success, earning $208 million worldwide against its $85 million budget.[3] Plot In Cape Town, South Africa, junior CIA officer Matt Weston is serving as a "housekeeper", an operative in charge of securing and maintaining a local CIA safe house in case of an operation. He calls his mentor and immediate superior, David Barlow, and inquires about a station in Paris, where he hopes to follow his live-in girlfriend Ana, a young French physician about to start her residency. Barlow tells him he is likely underqualified for the position, which frustrates Matt as he has not had a "houseguest" during his year long tenure, and thus has been unable to gain field experience. Barlow promises to revisit the issue in a few months. Elsewhere in Cape Town, ex-CIA NOC operative turned international criminal Tobin Frost acquires a data storage device from rogue MI6 officer Alec Wade. A team of mercenaries attacks them and kills Wade. Frost flees and, out of options, surrenders to the American consulate. A team led by veteran Daniel Kiefer transfers Frost to Weston's safe house in order to interrogate him for intelligence before he is returned to the US. Weston watches uneasily as Kiefer's team waterboards Frost. The mercenaries, led by Vargas, attack the safe house and kill Kiefer and his team. Weston escapes with Frost. Weston contacts Barlow at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, along with Catherine Linklater, the operative in charge of Frost's interrogation and Kiefer's superior, and CIA Deputy Director Harlan Whitford, who is overseeing the operation. Linklater orders Weston to lay low and await further instructions. Frost begins to mani[CENSORED]te Weston, insisting that someone within the CIA gave away their location to the mercenaries and that Weston will be forced to take the fall if things go wrong. Weston contacts Ana, giving her a cover story that his office has been threatened and suggesting she stay with friends when it appears their apartment is under surveillance. Barlow tells Weston to go to Cape Town Stadium where he retrieves a GPS device containing the location of another safe house, but Frost creates a diversion and escapes. Weston, detained by the police, escapes and is forced to fire at them. Weston contacts Langley to report Frost's escape. After hearing that Weston fired at the police, Linklater orders him to visit the nearest American embassy for debriefing. When Whitford tells him "we'll take it from here", Weston decides to pursue Frost himself as Frost had warned him that when he heard that phrase, that was when Weston should become concerned about his own safety. Linklater and Barlow go to South Africa themselves. En route, Linklater suggests that Weston has joined Frost, which Barlow refutes. Weston meets with Ana and admits he is in the CIA, urging her to return to Paris and to tell anyone who asks that they broke up a week ago in order to protect her. Weston tracks Frost to a township in Langa, where Frost meets Carlos Villar, an old friend and document forger, who provides him with travel documents but suggests that he leave his life of crime behind. Vargas' team attacks again, killing Carlos and his family, but Weston helps Frost escape. Weston brutally interrogates one of Vargas' wounded mercenaries, who reveals that Vargas is working for the CIA, which is seeking to retrieve the storage device from Frost. As they bandage their wounds, Frost urges Weston not to kill innocent people, telling the story of how he was forced to kill an air traffic controller while on a mission. He later learned that he was simply part of a plot to assassinate a whistle-blower who would expose wetwork committed by the CIA. Weston takes Frost to the new safe house, where Weston keeps the housekeeper, Keller, at gunpoint. Keller attacks and severely wounds Weston before Weston kills him. Frost reveals the device contains evidence of corruption and bribery involving the CIA, MI6, and other intelligence agencies, put together from a Mossad intelligence report. Frost leaves Weston, who passes out from blood loss. Meanwhile, Linklater informs Barlow of the device's existence, but not its contents. Barlow kills her and travels to the safe house where he reveals that he is Vargas' employer. He confirms that the file contains incriminating evidence against him, and encourages Weston to lie about what has happened. Frost returns and kills Vargas' team but is fatally wounded by Barlow. Weston then shoots and kills Barlow. As he dies, Frost gives Weston the file, saying he is a better man than Frost. Back in the United States, Weston meets with Director Whitford, who informs Weston that unflattering facts about the CIA must be removed from his report, but that he will be promoted. He asks Weston about the file's location but Weston denies knowing about it. Whitford states that whoever has those files will have many enemies. Weston assures Whitford that he will "take it from here,“ visibly shaking Whitford's hand, and leaves. He leaks the files to the media, incriminating personnel from many intelligence agencies, including Whitford. Weston travels to Paris and covertly observes Ana while she sits with friends in a cafe. She notices him across the street and smiles before he walks away, content that she is safe. Cast [Denzel Washington] as Tobin Frost [Ryan Reynolds] as Matt Weston [Vera Farmiga] as Catherine Linklater [Brendan Gleeson] as David Barlow [Sam Shepard] as Harlan Whitford [Rubén Blades] as Carlos Villar [Nora Arnezeder] as Ana Moreau [Robert Patrick] as Daniel Kiefer [Liam Cunningham] as Alec Wade [Joel Kinnaman] as Keller [Fares Fares] as Vargas
  7. The Book of Eli The Book of Eli is a 2010 American post-apocalyptic neo-western[7][8] action film directed by the Hughes Brothers, written by Gary Whitta, and starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, and Jennifer Beals. The story revolves around Eli, a nomad in a post-apocalyptic world, who is told by a voice to deliver his copy of a mysterious book to a safe location on the West Coast of the United States. The history of the post-war world is explained along the way, as is the importance of Eli's task. Filming began in February 2009 and took place in New Mexico.[9] The film was released in theaters in January 2010. Alcon Entertainment financed and co-produced the film with Silver Pictures, while it was distributed by Warner Bros. in the United States; international sales were handled by Summit Entertainment[1][2] and Sony Pictures Releasing International.[3][4] Plot Thirty years after a nuclear holocaust,[10] Eli travels on foot across the wasteland of the former United States. He demonstrates uncanny survival and fighting skills, such as hunting wildlife and defeating a group of highwaymen. Searching for water, he arrives in a ramshackle town ruled by a warlord named Carnegie, who seeks to control the people through the power of a certain book, which his henchmen have been unable to find. Eli barters with a store owner, the Engineer, to recharge the battery of his portable music player. At the town bar, he is attacked by a gang of bikers but swiftly kills them all. Impressed, Carnegie invites Eli to join his employ, but Eli declines. Realizing Eli is a literate man like himself, Carnegie forces him to stay the night under guard. After Carnegie's blind mistress Claudia brings Eli food and water, Carnegie orders her daughter Solara to seduce Eli, but he rebuffs her. Solara sees Eli has a book, and he offers to share his food, saying grace before they eat. In the morning, Carnegie overhears Solara repeat the prayer to her mother, and realizes Eli has the book he has been seeking – a Bible. Eli sneaks away, but Carnegie and his henchmen confront him in the street. When Eli refuses to give up the book, Carnegie orders him killed; the ensuing battle leaves Eli untouched, but many henchmen dead and Carnegie shot in the leg. Solara catches up to Eli and leads him to the town's water supply, hoping to accompany him on his travels, but he traps her inside and continues alone. Solara escapes and is ambushed by two bandits who attempt to rape her, but Eli reappears and kills them. Continuing toward the west coast, Eli explains his mission: his book is the last remaining copy of the Bible, as all other copies were intentionally destroyed following the nuclear war. He says that he was led to the book by a voice in his head, directing him to travel westward to a place it would be safe, and assuring that he would be protected and guided on his journey. At an isolated house, Eli and Solara fall into a trap but manage to allay the suspicions of the residents, George and Martha, who invite them in for tea. Realizing that the couple are cannibals, Eli and Solara attempt to leave just as Carnegie and his men arrive. In the ensuing shootout, George, Martha, and many of Carnegie's men are killed, and Eli and Solara are captured. Threatening to kill Solara, Carnegie forces Eli to surrender the Bible before shooting him and leaving him for dead, departing with his caravan. Solara escapes, destroying one truck with a hand grenade and driving back in another to find Eli. With his remaining vehicle low on fuel, Carnegie returns to town. Solara finds Eli, and they drive until they reach the Golden Gate Bridge, and row to Alcatraz Island, where they find a group intent on preserving what remains of literature and music. Eli tells the guards that he has a copy of the Bible. Taken inside, Eli is revealed to be blind, and dictates the New King James Version of the Bible from memory to Lombardi, the sanctuary’s leader.[11][10] In the town, the Engineer opens Eli’s locked Bible, which Carnegie discovers is in Braille. Claudia, feigning ignorance of Braille, tells Carnegie that his leg wound has become infected and the loss of his enforcers has led the people to run amok. At the sanctuary, Eli has died, but not before reciting the entire book. A printing press begins producing copies of the Bible, and Lombardi places one on a bookshelf between the Tanakh and the Quran. Offered sanctuary on Alcatraz, Solara chooses instead to return home, taking up Eli's machete and other possessions. Cast [Denzel Washington] as Eli [Gary Oldman] as Bill Carnegie [Mila Kunis] as Solara [Ray Stevenson] as Redridge [Jennifer Beals] as Claudia [Evan Jones as] Martz [Joe Pingue as] Hoyt [Frances de la Tour] as Martha [Michael Gambon] as George [Tom Waits] as Engineer [Chris Browning] as Hijack Leader [Malcolm McDowell] as Lombardi (uncredited)
