Coming exclusively to PS5, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was officially announced during the PlayStation Showcase 2021, with a brief trailer teasing what we can expect from Spidey's next outing. The trailer confirms that both Miles Morales and Peter Parker will appear in the sequel, and they’ll have at least one new villain (well, at least in this universe) to face off against: the terrifying Venom. The trailer doesn't give too much away, but it certainly offers plenty for us to theorize about (including an ominous voiceover that talks during the teaser), which is a good thing as unfortunately Spider-Man 2 won't be swinging onto PlayStation 5 until 2023. The sequel to the critically acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man When can I play it? TBC 2023 What can I play it on? PS5 Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is due to release in 2023 exclusively for PS5. Right now, we don't have a more specific release date outside of that 2023 release window but we expect developer Insomniac Games will narrow the date down in mid to late 2022. Delays are definitely possible as Insomniac is developing Marvel's Wolverine alongside Spider-Man 2. If Wolverine hits any bumps in the road it could have a knock-on effect on Spider-Man’s release. Reveal trailer: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was revealed with a trailer at the PlayStation Showcase 2021. The trailer is only around one-and-half minutes long, but it offers us a fair amount of details. For one we see both Peter Parker and Miles Morales taking swings at goons, suggesting we may get to play as both Spider-Men this time around. At the very end, we got a surprise appearance of infamous Spider-Man villain Venom – an outer-world symbiote with a passion for violence - so we expect it'll be one of the sequel's main villains. Unfortunately, there was no gameplay to analyze, but we briefly see a shot of Peter getting a power surge with his Iron Spider arms, suggesting suit powers may be making a return. We also hear an ominous voice talking over the trailer suggesting Peter and Miles will have yet another villain to face off against. Based on their speech about looking for a challenge and formidable opponent we’d put our money on it being Kraven the Hunter – a classic Spider-Man villain with a similar attitude towards the prey he seeks out in the comics. Morris, the author of the Miles Morales prequel novel, Wings of Fury, has joined Insomniac Games as a writer. Morris announced the news on Twitter, revealing that the first project she will be working on is Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Advertisement Morris' addition to the team is certainly welcome news. Her novel was well-received and her knowledge of the Miles Morales character is sure to be a boon to the sequel's writing. It will be a darker sequel like Empire Strikes Back It sounds like we really are getting the darker Spider-Man game we all wanted. During an appearance on the This Week in Marvel Podcast, Marvel’s Creative Vice President Bill Rosemann explained that "if the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars [A New Hope], Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire [Strikes Back]. It gets a little darker". This certainly makes us happy here at TRG as it hopefully means Insomniac's Spider-Man will remain its own distinct version rather than an imitation of the more family-friendly version we're used to in the MCU. Horror movie star will play Venom Taking to the official PlayStation Blog after the PlayStation Showcase 2021, Insomniac Games revealed that horror movie star Tony Todd (who portrays Candyman in the original film series of the same name) will voice Venom. Todd makes a perfect choice for Venom and is sure to deliver a sinister, guttural voice that’ll have us hiding behind the couch whenever Venom is on-screen. His casting also backs up our hope that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 takes on a more horror-themed tone so we’re especially delighted to hear of his involvement. We know a bit about God of War 5 Ragnarök, including the main antagonists, so we’ve compiled a crap ton of lore about the actual Ragnarök and discuss all of the possibilities that could occur with the next game. Heavy, heavy spoilers ahead for God of War. You have been warned. Here’s everything we know so far about God of War 5: Ragnarök. God of War 5 Ragnarök release date Shockingly, we actually had a release window for God of War 5: Ragnarök -- 2021. However, since then, God of War has unsurprisingly been delayed to 2022. Even getting this game out next year is wild, considering God of War just launched in 2018. Sure, Santa Monica Studios has had four years, but it is way sooner than how long it took to get Horizon Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part II. Since Santa Monica Studios already built God of War from the ground up, we imagine that it’ll be much easier to create a sequel to the 2018 game of the year, but since this title will be coming to PS5, we’ll get enhanced graphics at hopefully higher frame rates. God of War 5 Ragnarök story If you’ve beaten God of War, you know exactly where this game is going to go. It’s time for the end of times, at least for the Norse gods, a.k.a. Ragnarök. In the previous game, we got a bunch of background about what is prophesied to happen when Ragnarök begins. In real norse mythology, Ragnarök begins with a great battle that leads to the death of many gods, including Odin, Thor, Týr, Freyr, Heimdallr, and Loki. However, God of War’s depiction is slightly different, as Ragnarök was first prophesied by Jötunn Seeress Gróa. At the center of her prophecy is “a white ghost from another land and his young son,” a.k.a. Kratos and Atreus. After Odin learned of this prophecy, he killed her, but she didn’t tell him everything, so he obsessively committed himself to seek out more knowledge. The giants in Jötunheim actually knew everything about Ragnarök, which is why Odin invaded and tried to catch a peek at their prophecy. Odin then went on a killing spree, taking out giants in all of the nine-realms. At some point, the giants retreated to Jötunheim and shut themselves off from the rest of the realms to protect themselves as well as the prophecy. When we get to Jötunheim, we get a whole mural that prophesied the events of Ragnarök (thanks, God of War wiki). Surprise, the first mark of Ragnarök is Baldur’s death, the very antagnonist that we murder in God of War. Baldur’s death is followed by Fimbulwinter, which is a three-year long winter. Then, after three years, Ragnarök begins, both in and out of game apparently. It officially begins when Sköll and Hati, two giant wolves, devour the Sun and the Moon. Then, Surtr the Fire Giant burns Asgard to rubble with his flaming sword just before being killed by Thor and Odin. A war between Odin’s gang (the Aesir) and Freya’s crew (the Vanir) then ensues. In the war, a battle between Fenrir and Odin breaks out, and they both die. Eventually a battle between the World Serpent and Thor occurs, and apparently Thor hits the serpent so hard that Yggdrasil splinters and sends the Serpent back in time. The major reveal at the end of the mural was a depiction of Kratos’ death at the hand of his own son, Atreus. It’s unclear how many, if any, of these events will come to pass, as we’ve seen Kratos defy fate and destiny time and time again. However, after Kratos’ death, it’s prophesied that Atreus meets up with a group of wolves and the three of them travel together. I’m assuming these wolves are in fact Sköll and Hati, but that’s just a guess. Meanwhile, fans are picking apart God of War director Cory Barlog's Twitter for clues, and since it's packed with Alien and space-related stuff, the theory is either that we're going to see some space stuff in God of War or Barlog is working on a sci-fi game. Both theories are pretty out there, so I wouldn't read too much into it. We still don't know much about what's going on in the story, but recently, video game journalist and content creator Alanah Pearce joined Sony Santa Monica Studios as a video game writer. However, after the first official trailer dropped, we now know that this game is all about preventing Ragnarok, and that Thor and Freya are the main antagonists, seeking vengeance for the death of their family. And in this journey, players will be able to visit all nine realms in Norse mythology.
