Without them, they would just be small cruise ships. From helicopters to underwater sea scooters, from scuba gear to water-powered jetpacks to many dozens of personal towables. Submersibles are the epitome of the world’s best water toy. Their po[CENSORED]rity has grown to the point where UBoat Worx now has a one-person submarine that is not much larger than two jet skis. That allows smaller, 70-foot yachts to transport and launch them from the rear swim platforms. The options continue to grow, from electric hydrofoil surfboards to $1 million jet skis. Here’s a list of the top toys. You used to need a gigayacht to house a personal submarine. But the new Nemo has about the same footprint as two Jet Skis, so it can fit into the smaller tender garage of a 90-footer, or even on an extended swim platform. The compact sub comes in one- and two-person configurations, with a large acrylic sphere for a full view of your surroundings. U-Boat Worx expects most to be owner-operated (a two-week certification course is included in the price tag), so the navigation system is simple and intuitive. But the interior is suitably luxe, with black leather seats, heating, AC and a small helm area. Nemo can descend to 330 feet and has roughly eight hours of charge on a normal dive. The standard package includes two spotlights and floodlights, but owners can add extras for cutting through murky waters. Options include sonar, a mani[CENSORED]tor arm that allows you to collect samples for scientific research and a navigation package that provides GPS coordinates to the helm console. From around $1 million These ship-to-shore loafers are made of Wish wool, a fine-wool fiber from select merino sheep bred in Australia and New Zealand. Since everyone aboard will likely want a pair, the shoes have a dedicated space on the heels where the owner can write their name and avoid mix-ups. $825
  2. Link : https://vocm.com/2022/04/02/ceo-of-local-tech-company-testing-tesla-self-driving-software/ The founder and CEO of a local tech company is branching out by helping Tesla learn more about a new self-driving technology. Joshua Green of Mysa, a tech company focused on smart thermostats, is the proud owner of a Tesla Model Y vehicle. He says once Tesla developed a new self-driving software for their vehicles, he volunteered to become one of the company’s testers. Green says the software is still in the Beta stages, but he has been impressed with the results thus far. He says he has driven over 100 kilometres with the software. He keeps his hands on the wheel and foot over the brake in case something goes wrong, but says it’s perfect 99 per cent of the time. Green says the only issues he has come across have been some “slight corrections” with the lines that are painted on the roads, which he attributes to the province’s road conditions. He says the vehicle collects its own data and submits it to Tesla for immediate feedback. The software has been testing in the U.S. for the last 6-8 months, having just been released in Canada. Green argues that his results highlight the value of self-driving cars in the future, eliminating human error. He says the province should “double and triple down” on increased infrastructure as electric vehicles become a more viable option.
  3. Link : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.3dprintingmedia.network/raplas-takes-its-sla-hardware-to-the-next-level/amp/ Based in the UK—with offices in the US and Asia along with distributors around the world—Raplas is an additive equipment manufacturing company whose sights are very much set on production and overcoming the hurdles that are slowing the industrialization of AM down. You may not yet have heard about it as much as other industrial SLA system manufacturers, but Raplas is emerging as one of the hottest realities in the global AM scene. The company has been experiencing a period of rapid growth, with a large number of clients and a considerable installed base of industrial SLA systems aground the world. Now Raplas is scaling even further, with a new state-of-the-art facility and gen 2.0 of its industrial SLA hardware systems. At this pivotal point for the company, and just ahead of its appearance at AMUG 2022 in Chicago, we had the opportunity to speak with Raplas’ Chief Revenue Officer Martin Forth and Vice President of Sales Darrin Dickinson. They tell us more about the company’s innovative solutions and Raplas’ vision for production additive manufacturing.Raplas head office is in London with manufacturing facilities near Cardiff Wales and R&D in Wales and Germany. The company was started by a team of experienced AM specialists with the aim of bringing to market production-ready solutions. “Our goal was to use our practical experiences in AM and manufacturing to overcome the challenges of production,” Martin explains. “We have focused on reliability, consistent accuracy and production-intent materials.” Darrin elaborates on the company’s initial motivation, saying: “One of the things that were at the forefront of our minds was that there was a huge focus from manufacturers to lock people into very old ways of working, which was stagnating the market and limiting possibilities.” To solve this challenge, Raplas focused on developing its production-ready 3D printing hardware and placed significant emphasis on developing a robust software solution to underpin its production systems. This is the Integra+ platform, a processing environment that connects Raplas machines with third-party platforms and hardware for seamless production processes and workflows. The software also controls Raplas printers to achieve consistent and high-quality results. “Our control system Integra+ is at the heart of all of our products and processes intelligently based on each vector of original geometry,” Martin says. “This is calculated from the original data and our sophisticated algorithms provide the perfect build strategy for the parts’ geometry and the material properties.” Industry-leading industrial SLA portfolio The Integra+ solution is a key asset for Raplas entire lineup of industrial AM hardware, starting from the industrial SLA offer, one of the largest anywhere in the world, all the way to upcoming metal PBF technology. Integra+ provides a stable control platform that talks to the hardware within Raplas’ machines and integrates with external third-party platforms and hardware. This unique system allows a programmable bridge between different systems to seamlessly control the processes needed within complex environments. The company’s industry-leading stereolithography portfolio currently consists of five systems: the PR450, with a build volume of 450 x 450 mm; the PR700, with a build volume of 700 x 700 mm; the PR800, with a build volume of 800 x 700 mm; the PR1600, with a build volume of 1600 x 800 mm; and the largest system, the PR2400, with a build capacity of 2400 x 800 and three lasers for increased productivity. Raplas’ resin production systems can be equipped with removable tank options for easy switching between materials and feature a custom Build processor developed with Materialise and are integrated with Materialise Magics data preparation software. “A number of things set us apart from others in the market,” Darrin states. “And there are some common elements that are in all of our technologies. We are an open company that chooses to offer open machines. We also work in a different way with each of our customers; they are the key to our success.” As previously mentioned, Raplas’ is also working on an upcoming metal AM hardware series, which will reportedly target large build volumes. “Based on the success with our resin systems, we have developed technologies with Integra+ at their core, so that large build volumes can be controlled,” Martin tells us. “Metal introduces a lot of new dynamics to our offering,” Darrin adds. “We are trying to ensure that when we launch, we can provide differentiation in this space because there is no benefit to customers if we are simply providing a ‘me too’ technology.” UK-made with a global presence Raplas prides itself on manufacturing all its 3D printing systems in the United Kingdom, but that doesn’t mean the company doesn’t have global ambitions. Currently, Raplas works with clients all over the world and in many industries, particularly automotive, defense and medical. “We are open to customers’ needs and often have been the manufacturer of choice for companies that have been stifled in the past by other manufacturers’ offerings. With many of our customers, we work in a way that leads to developments outside of the mainstream. A lot of these customers require confidentiality, and we are happy to support this,” Darrin explains. “A number of our customers have locations around the world and our Integra+ platform allows them to accommodate this with workflows that give them confidential control of their data and production processes.”

Link : https://www.mixonline.com/technology/outline-newton-software-firmware-updates-debut Outline has released newly updated software and firmware for its FPGA-based multi-source processing platform, Newton.Flero, Italy (March 31, 2022)—Italian loudspeaker manufacturer Outline has released newly updated software and firmware for its FPGA-based multi-source processing platform, Newton, which combines filter technology, multi-format audio signal routing, multi-format standards conversion and digital signal synchronization in a single 1RU, networkable chassis. New updates to the Dashboard application (software v1.9.4 and firmware v0.97) include enhancements to the functionality of WFIR filters, the addition of GPIO port control and extended compatibility for the latest Apple Macintosh computers. Outline Unveils GSR Acoustic Analysis Sound Source The further development of Outline’s WFIR (Warped Finite Impulse Response) filters has led to a new Equalization Coefficient Synthesis Algorithm (EQ-CSA), which is said to accelerate the group EQ speed functionality and extend the filter resolution. This is applicable for a single Newton or when multiple Newton units are networked together; that kind of multi-unit control means that audio equalization options can be simultaneously deployed across multiple festival stages. The new updates also expand the number of Apple Mac computers now compatible with the company’s software, as Big Sur and Monterey operating systems are now supported, and further, Dashboard is now fully compatible with new Macs using the M1 chip. The update also introduces the option of using Newton’s GPIO capability to manage some internal functions for safety and evacuation purposes.

With the new partnership, additional items will be introduced to the community, including a more expansive outdoor collection, footwear, and outdoor apparel.Additionally, there will new sporting goods sections, with categories like fishing items available to community members, along with patio furniture and home accessories. All employees will officially be staff members of MHS starting on April 1, 2022, when the transaction becomes official. The store will eventually take over the Pet Station location as well, which is adjacent to the Village Ace store. “This transition will start as Pet Station moves to their new location,” said Svahn. “We hope to have a temporary shopping solution in the early part of summer where we can show more categories within the expanded space.” MHS was founded three years after Village Ace in 1977 to serve mountain towns. Beginning in 2001, the founders began to transition to ownership by employees, and by 2013, the business was completely owned by employees. Today, the team prides themselves on outstanding customer service and providing great choices to fit the mountain lifestyle. New operations need to be established as the teams come together, including merging the stores data, finding ways to present new merchandise to customers in limited space, and utilizing time to transform the Pet Station store as quickly as possible. “The process of remodeling the space to incorporate the Pet Station floor space will take some time,” said Svahn. “We hope to use our time wisely in 2022 to grow and expand, and our customers at the lake will see these changes and additions throughout the year. Toward the end of 2022 and into 2023, Mountain Hardware and Sports Incline Village will take shape, continuing to proudly serve the Incline Village and surrounding communities.” Those looking to stay up to date on the changes at Village Ace and MHS can visit mountainhardwareandsports.com or find them on social media @mountainhardwareandsports.

Street Talk can reveal Riverside’s local team has pounced on software business EventsAIR, which leads the Australian market in events management software and is trying to make it big in Europe and the United States.Riverside’s expected to take a controlling stake and has recruited a new US-based CEO, Matthew Donegan-Ryan, to run the business. Riverside will invest from its Australian fund alongside EventsAIR founder Trevor Gardiner, Donegan-Ryan and other management team members. The new ownership group is expected to work on EventsAIR’s international expansion. The group has a footprint in North America and Europe, targeting professional conference organisers, industry associations and educational institutions, but wants to increase market share. Riverside’s local team is expected to tap their offshore colleagues for help. The deal marks a big moment for EventsAIR, which started life 30-years ago helping event organisers move paper-based registrations online. Now its platform handles virtual, hybrid and in-person events, and has been used at more than 350,000 events. It also comes amid great change in the events sector. EventsAIR told potential suitors it had thrived during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the lack of face-to-face events. It switched quickly to selling virtual capabilities, and expects virtual and hybrid events to remain a big part of its offering. Riverside’s local managing partners Simon Feiglin and Nick Speer headed the transaction. It looks to Street Talk like a similar investment to Riverside’s stake in simulation software business Energy Exemplar, which has grown from its Australian roots to a big player in its market globally. The deal comes two months after Street Talk flagged that EventsAIR had called in London-based boutique Arma Partners to test interest in the business. The transaction size is not known, however Riverside typically invests in middle-market businesses worth up to a few hundred million dollars.Anthony Macdonald co-edits Street Talk, specialising in private equity, investment banking, M&A and equity capital markets. Link : https://www.hpcwire.com/off-the-wire/mit-ai-hardware-program-launches-to-bolster-innovation-in-next-gen-ai-hardware/ March 30, 2022 — The MIT AI Hardware Program is a new academia and industry collaboration aimed at defining and developing translational technologies in hardware and software for the AI and quantum age. A collaboration between the MIT School of Engineering and MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, involving the Microsystems Technologies Laboratories and programs and units in the college, the cross-disciplinary effort aims to innovate technologies that will deliver enhanced energy efficiency systems for cloud and edge computing. “A sharp focus on AI hardware manufacturing, research, and design is critical to meet the demands of the world’s evolving devices, architectures, and systems,” says Anantha Chandrakasan, dean of the MIT School of Engineering and Vannevar Bush Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. “Knowledge-sharing between industry and academia is imperative to the future of high-performance computing.” Based on use-inspired research involving materials, devices, circuits, algorithms, and software, the MIT AI Hardware Program convenes researchers from MIT and industry to facilitate the transition of fundamental knowledge to real-world technological solutions. The program spans materials and devices, as well as architecture and algorithms enabling energy-efficient and sustainable high-performance computing. “As AI systems become more sophisticated, new solutions are sorely needed to enable more advanced applications and deliver greater performance,” says Daniel Huttenlocher, dean of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing and Henry Ellis Warren Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. “Our aim is to devise real-world technological solutions and lead the development of technologies for AI in hardware and software.” The inaugural members of the program are companies from a wide range of industries including chip-making, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, AI and computing services, and information systems R&D organizations. The companies represent a diverse ecosystem, both nationally and internationally, and will work with MIT faculty and students to help shape a vibrant future for our planet through cutting-edge AI hardware research. The five inaugural members of the MIT AI Hardware Program are: Amazon, a global technology company whose hardware inventions include the Kindle, Amazon Echo, Fire TV, and Astro; Analog Devices, a global leader in the design and manufacturing of analog, mixed signal, and DSP integrated circuits; ASML, an innovation leader in the semiconductor industry, providing chipmakers with hardware, software, and services to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography; NTT Research, a subsidiary of NTT that conducts fundamental research to upgrade reality in game-changing ways that improve lives and brighten our global future; and TSMC, the world’s leading dedicated semiconductor foundry. Leveraging MIT.nano, the most advanced university nanofabrication facility anywhere, the program will foster a unique environment for AI hardware research. “We are all in awe at the seemingly superhuman capabilities of today’s AI systems. But this comes at a rapidly increasing and unsustainable energy cost,” says Jesús del Alamo, the Donner Professor in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. “Continued progress in AI will require new and vastly more energy-efficient systems. This, in turn, will demand innovations across the entire abstraction stack, from materials and devices to systems and software. The program is in a unique position to contribute to this quest.” The program will prioritize the following topics: analog neural networks; new roadmap CMOS designs; heterogeneous integration for AI systems; onolithic-3D AI systems; analog nonvolatile memory devices; software-hardware co-design; intelligence at the edge; intelligent sensors; energy-efficient AI; intelligent internet of things (IIoT); neuromorphic computing; AI edge security; how much AI wireless technologies; hybrid-cloud computing; and high-performance computation. “We live in an era where paradigm-shifting discoveries in hardware, systems communications, and computing have become mandatory to find sustainable solutions — solutions that we are proud to give to the world and generations to come,” says Aude Oliva, senior research scientist in the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and director of strategic industry engagement in the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing. The new program is co-led by Jesús del Alamo and Aude Oliva, and Anantha Chandrakasan serves as chair.

Link : https://www.google.com/amp/s/themalaysianreserve.com/2022/03/30/compasia-sees-exponential-growth-in-preowned-gadgets-marketplace/amp/ The firm is targeting more than double its revenue this year from 2021, with its e-store segment leading the way by NURUL SUHAIDI / pic by TMR FILE COMPUTERASIA Sdn Bhd (CompAsia) targets to become the biggest marketplace for re-commerce of mobile gadgets platform in South-East Asia and championing Malaysia as an operational hub. The company is targeting to more than double its revenue this year from 2021, with its e-store segment leading the way, which has seen a 2,500% growth in business over the last two years. Founder and CEO of CompAsia Julius Lim said the company is forecasting strong growth for this year owing to the evolving consumer’s perception toward pre-owned gadgets purchase which has fuelled the demand. “Our mission is always on maximising the affordability. As we improve on our systems, we are looking to be more cost-effective; and become even more affordable for our consumers,” he said during the media briefing at Wisma Academy. “We want to enhance customer awareness and educate them on how to expand the lifespan of their devices in a sustainable way, while also tripling our talent across the region and beyond to support our projected expansion,” Julius said. Last year, CompAsia registered a nine-figure overall revenue last year heavily attributed by its pivot to a more business to consumer and consumer to consumer approach in coping with the Covid-19 pandemic. Compared to other traditional second-hand phone merchants or platforms, CompAsia stands out because it offers only high-quality devices backed by prompt after-sales service support. In 2020, CompAsia sold 500,000 mobile gadgets globally in 2020, with a growth to over 600,000 products in 2021, repurposing used smartphones, laptops, and smartwatches. Apart from that, the platform also offers alternative financing solutions in which users may purchase the device through its financing programme, with instant credit scoring in Asean under its “ReNew+” offering, and comprehensive digitalise device care which enable users to check their device functionality prior to the trade-in process known as “InstaCover”. Anchoring its principle for sustainability, CompAsia is also a unique solution to reduce e-waste, as it encourages consumers to repurpose their device and offers services for users to dispose of their unused devices accordingly. “Instead of letting the device that accumulated the e-waste end up in the landfill, our service will handle and dispose of the devices in a sustainable way. “This is our strength which allows us to build an ecosystem that offers consumers a safe, convenient and stress-free space to trade-in,” he added. In addition to that, every device needs to go through a 32-step quality check, along with the secure data erasure, which comply with International Standard DoD 5220.22-M to protect both buyers and sellers alike. “Maintaining the customer’s trust and product quality through our trusted partners is the key to growing our user base and appealing to customers regardless of their financial background,” he added. The company currently operates in nine markets in the region and partners with over 50 mobile and financial-related companies. In light of the 5G rollout, the group also plans to cater to that market enabling users to upgrade their devices to 5G-ready. “We see the transition toward 5G-ready devices in the country as a growth potential in the next few years, with a stronger market acceptability, and we want to cater to that market by allowing them to trade and upgrade on our platform,” he added. “New channels from Singapore and Thailand joined the fray last month. We’re also working to strengthen our presence in Indonesia right now,” he added. “For 2022, we will look at offering our remarketing, ReNew+ and InstaCover solutions in countries we already operate in, while we evaluate new markets in the region and beyond and expand on Research and Development mission,” Julius said.

Not only does this process create valuable new goods, but it also reuses plastics and other materials that would otherwise go to waste. The information technology hardware market finds itself undergoing an upcycling process of its own. Instead of taking raw materials and restructuring them into something new, government agencies and their technology providers can make gradual hardware changes as needed. This concept runs contrary to the rip and replace model that has long dominated data center management and refresh. The current growth of technology has outpaced the refreshment cycle in recent years. In many cases, the hardware that agencies use improves faster than those same agencies can realistically use. As a result, the hardware has a longer lifespan as even “older” technologies find themselves still able to meet most current demands. In the past, data center hardware found itself obsolete within a few years. When agencies wanted to upgrade capacity through a technology refresh, replacing the existing systems and migrating applications and data was a prerequisite. With current technology, though, the computing and data needs lag behind availability. Replacing entire systems is only required in exceptional cases. Instead, agencies can upcycle existing technology, replacing the components that cause bottlenecks but leaving most of the current structure in place. This is both practical and cost-effective. Agencies can alleviate delays with simple hardware fixes, as opposed to more extensive and more expensive overhauls. A cost-effective solution The power of virtual machines and virtualization has created new value in existing technologies. Older hardware can support many virtual instances, creating cloud-like experiences without a large investment. Leveraging this upcycling process allows government agencies to have the necessary computing power, but without consistently investing in new hardware. As the pandemic has tightened agency budgets, the ability to find savings or delay larger investments has proved invaluable as agencies work within new financial constraints due to shifting spending priorities, according to Deloitte. While the cloud provides powerful computing, upcycling existing hardware can provide an additional pool of internal computing resources. For example, agencies can take old systems off networks with internet connectivity and use them in a siloed environment that cannot be accessed in the outside world.Best practices for upcycling technology Of course, technology vendors want customers to use their services, but that does not have to be left to traditional rip and replace models. Government agencies should look for programs that guarantee hardware upgrades for the life of the system. When a component no longer is viable, vendors should replace it as part of the service contract. That ensures agencies always have a highly operational system until they decide to do a more significant technology refresh. When looking to upcycle technology, government agencies should consider: The technology’s capability as not all products can support upcycling. The track record of resiliency and uptime as those with strong service track records make stronger candidates. Upcycling typically involves a lower cost and shorter modernization cycle, but may involve longer-term financial commitments. Just like with an old car, consider how much time can be gained with upcycling and repairs and conduct a cost-benefit analysis. As agencies look at new technologies, they should put more weight on those that can handle upcycling in the future. For hardware technologies to be upcycled they must have redundant and hot-swappable components, common or at least consistent architecture between generations and internal mitigation technology. These all help avoid downtime and enable a smooth transition. There are direct financial benefits in upcycling. It offers lower procurement costs for technology refresh, but also for extending the ROI of existing assets while lowering the total-cost-of-ownership for future upgrades. Industry analysis estimates a minimum 30% reduction in TCO of assets capable of being upcycled. Along with financial rewards, upcycling can help enhance operational efficiency, reduce risk, increase mission focus and reduce procurement complexity. While not all technology can be upcycled, it is imperative that technology leaders look for opportunities whenever possible.
