With the Ryzen 5000 series, it's fair to say that AMD has finally, and fully, eclipsed Intel's performance dominance in desktop PCs. AMD's Zen 3 architecture has landed in the new Ryzen 5000 series, breaking the 5GHz barrier with a newer version of AMD's most successful architecture to date. We've got plenty of gaming and application benchmarks, power measurements, and thermal testing here in this article to serve as a guide to the performance you can expect from AMD's most dominant series of processors in more than a decade. We also have pricing guides and links to tips on where to find the chips at retail, and you can see how the Ryzen 5000 chips rank compared to Intel's chips in our CPU Benchmark Hierarchy. The desktop PC was first on AMD's Zen 3 chopping block, but the new microarchitecture will eventually power AMD's full lineup of next-gen processors, including the Ryzen 5000 "Vermeer" desktop processors that have taken over our list of Best CPUs, and the EPYC Milan data center processors. AMD has also now announced its new Ryzen 5000 Mobile series, which is coming to retail soon in a host of new laptops. The first four Ryzen 5000 series desktop PC models stretch from the $299 Ryzen 5 5600X up to the $799 Ryzen 9 5950X. Barring shortages, the CPUs are on shelves now and represent a massive shift in the AMD vs Intel CPU wars. AMD has finally eclipsed Intel's desktop PC processors in every single metric that matters, like single- and multi-threaded workloads, productivity applications, and 1080p gaming performance, all by surprising margins. AMD's Zen 3 features a ground-up rethinking of the microarchitecture that finally allows it to take the 1080p gaming performance lead from Intel. Paired with a 19% boost to instructions per cycle (IPC) throughput and peak rated boost speeds of up to 4.9 GHz, Zen 3 is the magic 7nm bullet that finally upsets Intel from its position at the top of our CPU gaming benchmarks. In fact, given what we've seen so far, it looks like AMD could soon enjoy a dominating position in the desktop PC market unlike anything we've seen since the Athlon 64 days. Intel is stuck with its Comet Lake CPUs until next month to try to fend off the Ryzen 5000 series when Rocket Lake arrives in Q1 2021. Intel has finally dropped the details on Rocket Lake, revealing that it comes with a backported Cypress Cove microarchitecture that also delivers a 19% IPC gain, just like Zen 3, which might help even the score against the Ryzen 5000 processors in some areas - but definitely not all. Rocket Lake tops out at eight cores, and it's not coming to market until March while Zen 3 is on shelves now. Here's the Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 series processors that AMD has launched thus far, but we expect more to come to market soon:

There are no do-overs in real life. A woman who is unhappy about the way that she looked in her wedding dress is apparently demanding that her family throw a new wedding. According to one of her family members, the problem with the original dress is that the bride purposely got it tailored too small as an incentive to lose weight and then never lost the weight. This resulted in some un-flattering wedding photographs that the woman is hoping to get a do-over for. After purposely getting a dress that was too small, a bride is demanding a new wedding so she can get new wedding photos. After purposely getting a dress that was too small, a bride is demanding a new wedding so she can get new wedding photos. (iStock) The story appeared on Reddit’s Wedding Shaming blogs, where it was posted by a user named TeddyWestSide. According to the post, "My cousin got married two years ago. She ordered her dress on the smaller side saying how she was going to lose all the weight to look perfect in it. Well, she didn’t lose weight. In fact, she gained more weight." Despite that, the bride apparently still fit into the dress, but it was noticeable that it was too small for her. GROOM'S SISTER CRITICIZES BRIDE FOR WEARING DRESS THAT DOESN'T HIDE CHILDHOOD SCAR "Apparently she’s so upset over her dress in three of her wedding photos that she has announced she’s planning a whole new wedding," the post continues. "She appreciates everyone’s cooperation during this time as we, as a whole family, will be the ones paying for it, or volunteering all of our free time to get it together as was our fault for not pushing her harder and letting her look the way she did." Unfortunately, she apparently didn’t consult with her family before announcing this. The poster explains, "This is the first time we have all heard about her being upset over anything. She was also told, in very colorful language, that we will not be throwing a whole new wedding over three bad angled photos." Several commenters asked about simply retouching the existing photos, with one user writing, "If all she cares about are the photos, she can Photoshop them. Problem solved." The original author responded to this post, however, explaining that their cousin wants the pictures to be "authentic," so they need to be from an actual wedding. Others asked about simply staging new pictures in a better dress without redoing the entire wedding. One commenter asked, "Why doesn’t she just lose weight, get into the dress, and have a lovely set of pictures taken?" Once again, the original author responded that their cousin wanted everything to be "authentic." Other users, however, took a firm stance against the bride, with one writing, "The family's response should be a firm no. The cousin needs to take responsibility for past actions and not blame all of you."

Russia has accused Western countries of encouraging rallies in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Tens of thousands defied a heavy police presence to join the rallies on Saturday. More than 3,500 were detained, monitors say. But President Vladimir Putin's spokesman the next day claimed only "a few" people had turned out. There are calls for the EU to step up sanctions on Russia amid US accusations of "harsh tactics" against protesters. In Moscow, riot police were seen beating and dragging away demonstrators. In pictures: Defiant Russians rally for opposition 'Thousands detained' at Navalny protests in Russia Alexei Navalny: Russia's vociferous Putin critic Mr Navalny, President Putin's most high-profile critic, called for protests after his arrest last Sunday. Demonstrations were held in about 100 cities and towns from Russia's Far East and Siberia to Moscow and St Petersburg. Observers say the scale of the demonstrations across the country was unprecedented, while the protest in the capital was the largest in almost a decade. They appeared to enjoy widespread passive support, with trolley bus passengers waving to the crowds and large numbers of car drivers beeping their horns. The embassy said such warnings were a "common and routine practice", according to Reuters. The new Biden administration had previously called on the Russian authorities to release those detained, and condemned what it called "harsh tactics" used by the police against them. Meanwhile, the Russian embassy in the UK also accused Western nations of using their embassies to encourage the protests. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites. The foreign ministers of Estonia, Lativia and Lithuania called for "restrictive measures against Russian officials responsible for arrests". Poland's President Andrzej Duda also urged the EU to step up sanctions on Russia following the arrest of Mr Navalny. EU foreign ministers are set to meet on Monday to discuss their response. Mr Navalny, was detained after he flew back to Moscow from Berlin, where he had been recovering from a near-fatal nerve agent attack in Russia last August. On his return, he was immediately taken into custody and found guilty of violating parole conditions. He says it is a trumped-up case designed to silence him.

Our own sources have confirmed something that Videocardz has already posted; namely that the RTX 3060 would be launching in the last week of February. As always with release timelines, Jensen could still move the date around but considering channel partners and OEMs are involved - it seems unlikely. This would be a hard launch and assuming miners and scalpers don't scoop everything up, the availability of stock should be good. We will have another exclusive about AMD Ryzen availability shortly as well. NVIDIA RTX 3060 mainstream king landing on shelves by the end of February for $329 The release schedule of the RTX 3060 (as revealed by Videocardz) is as follows: 30th December: Press and influencer seeding list for the RTX 3060 provided by AICs. 19th February: AICs can start seeding samples to press on this date. End of February: Review embargo lifts (likely around 28th February) End of February: RTX 3060 on-shelf availability begins. The NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU is an 8nm Samsung affair using the GA106-300 core. It features a base clock of 1320 MHz and a boost clock of 1777 Mhz. With a CUDA core count of 3584, this GPU can hit a peak horsepower of 12.7 TFLOPs - which is almost on par with the older Turing based flagships. The GPU also features 28 RT clusters and 112 Tensor clusters. In comparison, the RTX 3060 Ti is based on the GA104-200 die and cal clock up to 1665 MHz. It makes up for that lack of clock speed with ac ore count of 4864 CUDA cores with a resulting horsepower of 16.2 TFLOPs. The RTX 3060 will have an MSRP of 329 USD while teh RTX 3060 Ti has an MSRP of 399 USD (in other words it is 21% more expensive while being 27% faster on paper). Interestingly, the RTX 3060 will ship with 12 GB of GDDR6 - although we are hearing NVIDIA might decide to cut this to 6GB due to memory supply issues (this part is *not* confirmed and should be taken with a grain of salt) and a 15 Gbps memory clock coupled to a 192-bit bus width. It features a memory bandwidth of 260 GB/s and a TDP of 170W. On the other hand, its elder brother, the RTX 3060 Ti will feature an 8GB GDDR6 spec with 14 Gbps coupled to a 256 bit bus and a bandwidth of 448 GB/s. The TDP of the card will be slightly higher at 200 watts. Unfortunately for gamers, the cryptocurrency market has made a massive comeback in 2021, and Ethereum (the most po[CENSORED]r altcoin that can be mined with a GPU) has already breached the $1300 USD level multiple times. This means you are very unlikely to find these GPUs at the recommended price points (if at all) and the demand/supply situation will likely drive these prices much higher. With NVIDIA trying to meet demand by tapping Samsung, it does look like things might not improve for gamers untill the second half of 2021 - if at all. Cryptocurrency demand is unlikely to go away anytime soon (even though Ethereum is shifting to proof of stake sometime this year which should eliminate a very large chunk of GPU mining demand) and manufacturers like NVIDIA will have no choice but to simply step up their supply game and enforce strict countermeasures to make sure their GPUs end up where they belong: in the hands of actual gamers.

f you want to smooth over irate clients and offer more efficient customer services, consider conversational bots instead of a roomful of human company reps. Chatbots could be a better solution to engaging clients and relating to customers. According to Myplanet CEO Jason Cottrell, chatbots will transform the way businesses schedule appointments, consumers check their bank accounts, and shoppers even just order a pizza. But just how accepting consumers will get with chatbots is a subject of intensive research as marketers seek the best paths to integrate chatbots into the business process. Chatbots are projected to be a $1.3 billion market by 2024. These conversational software applications, powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and integrated into e-commerce and customer-facing websites, have the potential for improving information gathering and customer service tasks, as well as providing better tools for handling e-commerce and customer relations management. Researchers see consumers' comfort levels with a variety of chatbot technologies softening towards customer service, scheduling, banking, and therapy. But consumer responses are still less than warmly welcoming all that chatbots might offer. Consumers prefer using chatbots for simple tasks such as scheduling appointments or customer service. However, when it comes to using chatbots for personal tasks such as therapy or banking, consumers were significantly more uncomfortable. For example, customer service chatbots had a 33 percent comfort level compared to banking chatbots with an 18 percent comfort level. If nothing else wins over consumers to use chatbots to conduct business, their convenience and efficiency might well succeed. For example, rather than waiting on hold for a call center agent to pick up the call, chatbots are quicker and easier to use, offered Beerud Sheth, CEO of Gupshup. "Chatbots provide instant responses to user queries. This is especially important for simple tasks that chatbots can resolve adequately and quickly," he told the E-Commerce Times. Accusoft FormSuite - Try it now! Generational Factors of Acceptance Though chatbot usage by businesses is still in the early days, adoption rates, especially in the U.S. and Europe, portend continuing advances. In addition, tech industry trends and efforts are helping to drive chatbot development and adoption, according to Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT. "Broadly speaking, access to affordable AI technologies like machine learning is helping to speed chatbot evolution. More specifically, solutions such as the Power Virtual Agents that Microsoft recently introduced provide the tools that organizations require to develop chatbots that meet their discrete business needs," he told the E-Commerce Times. It is worth noting that the success of chatbots largely depends on their ability to successfully mimic human interactions. At this point, quality varies widely, he added. Understandably, companies appreciate chatbot technology's ability to save them money by replacing or reducing call center employees. But there is a fine line between cutting headcount and slitting your own throat with degraded customer satisfaction, he warned. "I believe that there are also generational factors at work here. As foundational technologies improve and older consumers who prefer living representatives are replaced by younger people who are accustomed to interacting with virtual agents, chatbots will become common across businesses and industries," said King. Human Simulation So far, consumers are seeing chatbots pop up as dialog systems on websites providing customer service, request routing, and information gathering. Shoppers also engage chatbots when they dial into customer service departments and other businesses. Chatbots are highly sophisticated software applications that can conduct online chat conversations via text or text-to-speech technologies. They replace direct contact with a live human agent. Also, chatbots can ease customer fears about the technology, Sheth suggested. Unlike websites and apps, chatbots enable computers to behave like humans. "Chatbots are natural to interact with and require no technical expertise to use. Thus, chatbots can reduce customer anxiety or fear about using technology," he explained. At the high end, the software behind the AI-powered performance includes extensive word-classification processes, natural language processors, and sophisticated AI. Other chatbot applications scan for general keywords and generate responses using common phrases obtained from an associated library or database. "Chatbots are a special kind of bot, one that can engage in automated chat conversations with users. Chatbots simulate human chat interactions with a user and are often used for customer support, sales, and marketing," Sheth said. A recent study by Myplanet shows that consumers are learning to at least tolerate interacting with chatbots for some tasks, whether via voice during phone calls or conducting using text on a website. But there is still a growth factor needed before consumers, in general, are ready to get really cozy with chatbots. Myplanet conducted its latest survey in October 2020. Researchers asked 500 U.S. respondents aged 18 to 65+ using Google Consumer Surveys on websites in the Google Surveys Publisher Network. Responses were weighted for age, gender, and location to more closely represent the po[CENSORED]tion and remove bias from the survey sample. The survey presented participants with a series of nine images and a short description of various forms of interactive technology. Researchers asked respondents to rank on a five-point scale how strongly they disagreed or agreed with the statement: "I would feel comfortable interacting with this technology." Voice Assistants Most Preferred Perhaps one of the more surprising results shows voice assistants are outpacing text chatbots in desirability. Of all chatbot technologies surveyed, voice assistant apps on phones ranked significantly more desirable (33 percent comfort agree rate) compared to the average comfort level with chatbot technologies (22 percent comfort agree rate). In general, respondents viewed chatbot technologies that used a voice assistant as more desirable than text-based chatbots. For example, the question referenced voice chatbot and text chatbot options for scheduling an appointment. Scheduling chatbots that used a voice assistant ranked more desirable (24 percent comfort level) compared to scheduling chatbots that used text (20 percent comfort level). Also surprising is the role women play in embracing chatbot interactions. Women are driving the growth in chatbot desirability, according to the survey results. More Findings In general, researchers found no significant differences in comfort levels across age groups, genders, and regions surveyed. However, female respondents indicated that they are more comfortable than male respondents with voice assistants on phones (37 percent vs 30 percent comfort level), banking chatbots (22 percent vs 15 percent comfort level), and customer service chatbots (34 percent vs 21 percent comfort level). These latest responses are highly significant as an indicator of the growing acceptance of chatbots. This finding aligns with an overall increase in favorability from the company's June 2020 survey. The October survey found that respondents preferred chatbots for simple tasks. Survey takers indicated that chatbots dealing with more sensitive information, such as health and banking data, were less desirable than chatbots that were more customer service or scheduling oriented. For example, customer service chatbots had a 33 percent comfort level compared to banking chatbots with an 18 percent comfort level. Perhaps the most unfavorable response involved chatbots that touched on "human" topics. Therapist chatbots ranked very undesirable with a 15 percent comfort level (comparable to the comfort level of self-driving taxis) and reflect a similar viewpoint to physical robotics used for comfort and therapy applications.

BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is widely considered to be among the best Star Wars games ever made, as well as one of the best licensed role-playing games. Since the second game released in 2004, we've been in the dark on any follow-ups, but a new game is reportedly coming from a completely different company. That's according to VGC as well as Star Wars insider Bespin Bulletin and Nate Najda--better known online as Shinobi602--the new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game isn't being made by Electronic Arts or BioWare. Those sources didn't say who would be developing the new game, though Najda seemed to indicate it wasn't going to be a well-known studio. Now Playing: Star Wars Squadrons Video Review Electronic Arts had been publishing console and PC Star Wars games exclusively for the last several years, beginning with Star Wars: Battlefront in 2015 and eventually leading to games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars: Squadrons. The company seemed to be finally hitting its stride with the franchise, though it had also canceled several Star Wars games. However, with Ubisoft's Massive studio now creating an open-world Star Wars game, it appears nearly anyone could be in charge of this apparent new Knights of the Old Republic. Knights of the Old Republic began as an Xbox exclusive, as BioWare hadn't been acquired by EA yet. Its sequel was handled by Obsidian Entertainment, a company that has since been purchased by Microsoft. However, its plate is currently quite full, with work on games like Grounded and Avowed meaning it almost certainly isn't working on Star Wars. Still, the possibilities for a developer are pretty much endless. Given the pedigree of its predecessors, expectations for a third game would certainly be sky-high.

Yosemite National Park will be closed until at least early next week after high winds knocked down two giant sequoia trees and caused millions of dollars in damage. The heavy winds began early this week and swept across California, hitting Yosemite on Monday night. On Tuesday, the park announced on social media that Yosemite would be closed because of the continued winds as well as "downed trees, debris, and damage to park facilities." Later that day, the park tweeted pictures of several trees that had fallen on trucks and caused damage to at least one building, saying the park wouldn’t reopen until at least Friday. Aside from damage to Yosemite, the high winds brought down trees and power lines across California. The winds even knocked out electricity to about 300,000 homes and businesses. Utilities also intentionally blacked out tens of thousands of customers to prevent fires erupting from damaged or downed electrical equipment. The winds eased Tuesday in the northern and central areas and Wednesday in the south.

You’ve likely never thought about the engineering that goes into the smaller details of your automobile. That’s no big deal, but thankfully BMW is building a series of videos demonstrating the research and development that it takes to produce the new M3 and M4 models. The latest installments profile the wheels and seats. The seat of a car may seem mundane to most, but to petrolheads it’s one of the holy grails of the automotive experience. Along with giving you a seat-of-the-pants feel of what your vehicle is doing, the whole affair needs to be light, comfortable, and adjustable. As such, there are two different seat options that you can have on the new M models – the M Sport Seat and the M Carbon bucket seat. While the former is just what you’d expect – a standard example with tighter bolstering – the clear party piece here is the carbon bucket seats. The German automaker worked to keep the same adjustability as the former while saving 5 kilograms (11 pounds) per seat. Along with weight saving, the engineering team created a one-size-fits-all contour for the seat back after studying the profiles of test subjects. The end result produces the magic combination of comfort and bolstering to keep you in place. Just like the seats, the wheels of your car need to be light while providing optimal performance and aesthetics. As such, the same cross-spoke design still lives on from previous models but has been slightly modified to match the more angular aesthetic of the newer crop of vehicles. However, the research and development doesn’t just end there. BMW M has pulled out all the stops on its latest cream-of-the-crop M Performance wheel with cutaways on the spokes, eliminating unnecessary material. We’ve seen a similar ethos applied before, but the German automaker has shown the world that minuscule engineering details can still be quite sexy. Before we start a massive war in the comments section, we know that this still doesn’t solve the new kidney grille shaped elephant in the room. But it’s refreshing to know that the determination to build the ultimate driving machine lives on.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte says a delay in the supply of coronavirus vaccines from Pfizer and AstraZeneca is "unacceptable". Both companies have warned they will not be able to deliver vaccines to the EU as agreed due to production issues. Mr Conte has accused them of serious contract violations. A senior Italian health official has warned that the country will have to rethink its vaccination programme if supply issues continue. The AstraZeneca vaccine, developed by Oxford University, has not yet been given EU approval; however the bloc's drug regulator is expected to give it the green light at the end of this month. A spokesman for AstraZeneca said on Friday that "initial volumes will be lower than originally anticipated" without giving further details. Officials have not confirmed publicly how big the shortfall will be, but an unnamed EU official told Reuters news agency that deliveries would be reduced to 31m - a cut of 60% - in the first quarter of this year. The drug firm had been set to deliver about 80m doses to the 27 nations by March, according to the official who spoke to Reuters. Last week Pfizer announced it was slowing supplies to Europe to make manufacturing changes that will boost capacity. The EU has ordered 600 million doses from Pfizer. Hungary first in EU to approve Russian vaccine Why won't vaccinating the vulnerable end UK lockdown? Cases, deaths and vaccinations by country On Saturday, Mr Conte wrote on Facebook: "Our vaccination plan ... has been drawn up on the basis of contractual pledges freely undertaken by pharmaceutical companies with the European Commission." "Such delays in deliveries represent serious contractual violations, which cause enormous damage to Italy and other countries," he added. Italy's Health Minister Franco Locatelli said Pfizer deliveries were 29% lower than planned this week but the levels were expected to return to those agreed by 1 February. Mr Conte vowed to use "all available legal tools". Poland has also vowed to take action over the delay. What is happening elsewhere in Europe? Austrian media have reported that only 600,000 of 2m AstraZeneca doses promised by the end of March will arrive in the country on time, with the remaining 1.4m now being delivered in April.

The GeForce RTX 3060 (codename Ampere) will launch next month at $329. However, early retailer pricing suggests that third-party GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card will likely cost a lot more than Nvidia's MSRP - maybe even as much as the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. CCL Computers (via VideoCardz) has already listed a ton of GeForce RTX 3060 models from the different graphics cards manufacturers. The U.K. retailer didn't reveal the price tags for the graphics cards, but VideoCardz discovered a bug in the vendor's system that accidentally exposes the pricing. Since we can't be certain if CCL Computers' prices are accurate, we recommend you approach the pricing with a good bit of caution. After analyzing all 15 custom GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards, we've determined that only the Asus models are properly priced. The SKUs from Gigabyte, Palit and Zotac all cost £499.99, which is highly unlikely. We suspect the pricing for those three vendors is a placeholder. Since it's such a small sample size, it's difficult to reach a general conclusion. If we focus primarily on the Asus models and CCL Computers' pricing, there's a small price difference between the GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 3060 Ti in some cases. For example, the Dual GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Mini OC Edition is only 5.9% more expensive than the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 OC Edition. If we look at it from another angle, the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3060 and OC Editions cost more than the Dual GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Mini OC Edition itself. GeForce RTX 3060 reviews aren't out yet so we don't know how it compares to the best graphics cards and have no clue about the margin between it and the RTX 3060 Ti. Specification-wise, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is equipped with 35.7% more CUDA cores than the non-Ti, while also offering a 24.4% higher memory bandwidth. In the GeForce RTX 3060's defense, it does come with an extra 4GB of GDDR6. But again, it's difficult to estimate how much faster the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is in comparison to the non-Ti without a proper review. The GeForce RTX 3060's pricing will determine the graphics card's success, and as we already know, every dollar counts in the mid-range market. Assuming that the price gap between a GeForce RTX 3060 and a RTX 3060 Ti is less than 10%, it would make sense to grab the latter, especially if it ends up offering considerably more performance. The problem is that with the ongoing graphics card shortage and the resurgence of cryptocurrency mining, the odds of finding a GeForce RTX 3060 at $329 are going to be very slim, if not impossible.
