Searching the web on Google Chrome is now faster than ever thanks to a new update to the omnibox in Google's browser. In a new post in the search giant's The Fast and the Curious series by Chrome product manager Yana Yushkina, the company explained that searching in Chrome is now even faster since search results are prefeteched if a suggest query is very likely to be selected. For those unfamiliar, Chrome's omnibox suggests potential queries when the “Autocomplete searches and URLs" feature is turned on in the browser's settings. This makes searching for information faster and easier as users don't have to type in an entire search query to find what they're looking for. According to Google, search results are now four times more likely to be shown within 500 milliseconds of a user typing a query into Chrome's omnibox. It's worth noting that this only happens if Google Search is your default search engine though other search providers can trigger this feature as well by adding information to the query suggestions sent from their servers to Chrome (more information can be found here). Memory improvements and shutdown hangs With the release of version M89 of its browser back in March, Google rolled out its new memory allocator PartitionAlloc to Android smartphones and Windows devices bringing improved memory usage (up to 22 percent savings) and performance (up to nine percent faster responsiveness). Since that time though, the company has also implemented PartitionAlloc on Linux in m92 and in Chrome OS in M93. Now with field data from version M93 on Chrome OS, Chrome shows a total memory footprint reduction of 15 percent in addition to a 20 percent browser process memory reduction which improves web browsing on Chromebooks for both single and multi-tabs. Google also provided new details on a local cache that was added to Chrome's history system years ago with the goal of making startup faster. Instead of speeding up startup though, the cache added code complexity and memory usage while also being the company's top contributor to shutdown hangs in its browser. The cache has now been removed and Chrome will likely shut down faster going forward.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports Apple is readying a new way to purchase iPhones and other Apple hardware with a new subscription-based service. In essence, users will be paying a fixed fee each month and get an iPhone of their choice with free upgrades when new models are announced. This service will be different from the current installment plans offered by Apple and carriers as it would be a set fee paid each month and not the cost of the phone divided by 12, 24 or 36 months like the installments. The iPhone subscription service will be tied to users' existing Apple ID accounts and may also bundle free Apple Care and even Apple One services which include Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud+, Apple News+, and Apple Fitness+. Gurman expects the new subscription service to start by the end of this year or early into 2023 with iPhones and eventually move to the rest of Apple’s hardware lineup including iPads, MacBooks and Apple Watch. No specific price was mentioned just yet with speculations ranging from $20 to $40 per month. It remains to be seen how subscription cancellations will affect the associated end costs for users. Selling phones as a subscription-based service is not entirely new as Google already operates its Pixel Pass program in the US which lets you choose between a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro bundled with Google's own first-party services for $45 to $55 per month. Web infrastructure company Cloudflare has opened its cloud hosting service to all users. Announced in December 2020, Cloudflare Pages enables frontend developers to build sites using Jamstack, which is a set of frameworks po[CENSORED]r for developing and deploying websites at scale. “It’s been incredible to see what happens when you put a powerful tool in developers’ hands. In just a few months of beta, thousands of developers have deployed over ten thousand projects, reaching millions of people around the world,” wrote Rita Kozlov, Product Manager, Cloudflare Pages, while throwing open the platform for production use. Production ready In her post, Kozlov also discussed some of the new features the developers had been working on during the beta, including web analytics, built in redirects, protected previews, live previews, and optimized images. Collaboration is a big part of the new product and soon after it rolled out the beta, Cloudflare acquired automation platform Linc to give more flexibility and functionality to help its front-end developers collaborate and build webapps with ease. While Cloudflare Pages can currently only be used to build static pages, Kozlov shares that their long-term plan is to make full-stack application development a walk-in-the-park. As a production-ready product, Cloudflare Pages takes on other Jamstack supporting providers including Netlify and Vercel.

Hyte's Y60 ATX Case Features 'Panoramic Views' of Your PC Parts At some point, we've probably all owned a PC case that you just want to shove in a corner and forget. But Hyte's Y60 ATX PC case is more the kind of case you place gently in the corner and stare at in admiration of your components and build prowess. It features three removable glass panels that wrap around the front and side of the case, giving you what the company calls "panoramic views" of your components. The Y60 is solely designed to display your graphics card in a vertical orientation. The case will ship with a PCIe 4.0 riser cable that matches the external color of the case, and the card sits on a false floor so that the cable and PCB are hidden from view. Hyte even says that the case is wide enough to fit half-height expansion cards behind the GPU, which allows for extra expansion while keeping things pretty by just showing off your graphics card. The case comes with three 120 mm fans, two intakes in the floor and one in the back as exhaust. Additionally, there's room to mount up to a 280 mm radiator on the side and up to a 360 rad up top. When it launches for $199 starting in March, Hyte says you'll be able to pick up the Y60 in your choice of all-black, white and black, or red and black. Overall, the look is unique, and given how much we liked Hyte's first case, the Revolt 3, we're intrigued by what the new brand will deliver next. HYTE keeb SR65 Not content to stick just to cases, Hyte also has a couple of new peripherals that were announced at CES 2022. The keeb SR65 (yes, keeb, all lowercase) is a compact 65% custom mechanical keyboard that combines a translucent " frosted polycarbonate" shell with a hot-swappable PCB (so you can choose your own switch adventure) and a unique dual roller above the keyboard for adjusting volume and/or whatever else you want. This version of the keeb, Hyte says, will be limited to 1,000 units and feature a 5-pin PCB for "future keyboard modifications" and switch compatibility, along with laser-engraved ABS shine-through keycaps. Aimed at the intersection of gamers and enthusiasts, it will come with Durock V3 Gold Wire stabilizers and your choice of three Durock switches, linear (pink or yellow) or a tactile (teal). The company says a barebones model will also be offered, so you can supply your own switches and keycaps. There's also a new suspended gasket mount for a better typing feel and sound. Unlike many budget keyboards that rely solely on key combos for customization, Hyte has its won Nexus software for tweaking key assignments and lighting. The company says the software uses AI to " sync the keeb to computer screens, wallpaper animations, and music." While the keeb SR65 is definitely a unique keyboard that stands out both for its design and features, don't expect this clacker to come cheap. You can preorder the Hyte keeb SR65 starting January 14, by putting down a $50 (fully refundable) deposit. The keyboard is expected to ship in May for $400, or $350 if you opt for the barebones kit without switches or keycaps. Bringing up the rear of Hyte's CES 2022 product train is the eclipse HG10 (Hyte seems averse to capital letters in its product names), a wireless headset in an attractive 'lunar grey' finish. Sporting what it calls "half-moon shaped" ear cups with 40 nm 20 hz - 20 kHz neodymium drivers and a detachable unidirectional mic, the GH10 connects using a 2.4 Ghz USB-A dongle. Oppo announced the Find X5 Pro a month ago as its latest flagship with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The phone already has an advanced built-in cooling solution, but the company now introduces a special Ice-Skin cooling case that helps keep the temperature further 2-3 degrees C lower. The case has a special hydrogel layer, developed by Wuhan University. Regular hydrogels draw moisture from the air and then release it through evaporation. However, in order to provide long-term cooling and not just a one-time solution, the researchers developed Glacier Mat - modified hydrogel that re-absorbs moisture from the air over and over again at lower temperatures of the atmosphere, creating a circular cooling cycle. The Ice-Skin case doesn't add too much heft or thickness to the Find X5 Pro bulkier compared to a regular protective case. Some users in China who preordered the Find X5 Pro are receiving the Ice-Skin cooling case with it, but Oppo is yet to say anything regarding a global launch

PS4 and PS5 won’t always work as much as we want to believe they will and have a slew of different errors. One of these that have popped up recently with the latest PS update is error WS-37505-0, which is plaguing a lot of users across the world. It isn’t a massive error, however. While annoying, it does have its reasons for popping up. Error ws-37505-0 Explained If you are seeing this error, there is honestly nothing to worry about. This error is caused by Sony’s side and will be addressed and fixed as soon as possible. You can check the game server or server status on social media, or even check out the PSN status page to see if others are having similar problems as you. But don’t feel like you need to rush into doing anything drastic. Have some patience, wait, and the problem will fix itself eventually.

So far, Samsung is maintaining two foldable lineups in the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip. This year we expect the Z Fold4 and the Z Flip4 but a report from Galaxy Club suggests that there might be a third foldable in the pipeline. That's because there are three codenames for foldables being thrown around - B4, Q4 and N4. Since last year's names for the Z Flip3 and the Z Fold3 were B3 and Q3, it's probably safe to assume that the N4 codename belongs to an entirely different foldable handset. The leak also reads that Samsung won't be producing it in such large quantities as the other two handsets. There are quite a few patents filed by Samsung in the last couple of years including ones depicting rollable display and one that folds in various shapes. The N4 may not be as extreme but makes sense to be the next innovative design given the limited production. Source (in Dutch)

[Software] GoDaddy edges closer to $120m MMX asset acquisition
Mr.Shehbaz posted a topic in Software
GENERAL INFORMATION Major domain registry provider GoDaddy is one step closer to finalizing its acquisition of 28 domain extensions owned by Minds + Machines Group Limited (MMX). MMX shareholders recently voted to approve the sale of its assets to GoDaddy Registry, valued at $120 million, which will include .club and .design domain extensions. The terms of the deal were not disclosed and the GoDaddy subsidiary still awaits a number of other approval ticks to complete the acquisition, including a green light from the Chinese government for the change of control of MMX China. - Here's our list of the best web hosting services available - We've built a list of the best website builders on the market - Check out our list of the best shared web hosting right now Once the deal is complete, GoDaddy Registry will own, manage or operate over 240 domain extensions, with more than 14 million domain names under its management. GoDaddy buys more A report by Domain Name Wire highlighted that the acquisition was already a done deal as MMX already had more than enough votes to approve the sale of its assets. Earlier this month, GoDaddy Registry Vice President and General Manager, Nicolai Bezsonoff had said: “All three acquisitions support our growth strategy in unique ways by expanding our portfolio of generic, geo-targeted, and vertically-focused top-level domains.” GoDaddy Registry was also awarded the contracts to help manage the generic domain extensions .basketball and .rugby, as well as Ally Financial’s branded .ally domain, earlier this month. Also, once the acquisition is complete, the firm will be the registry for the domain names .VIP and .XXX. GoDaddy’s latest financial report reflected huge growth including a 12% year-on-year increase in its fourth quarter of 2020 results and its customers hit 20.6 million by the end of last year, representing growth of 7.1% year-on-year. This kind of reported growth meant it was almost inevitable for an acquisition of some sort to follow suit as the company embraces its expanding customer base.
