A cargo ship carrying thousands of luxury cars has sunk off the Portuguese Azores archipelago, almost two weeks after it caught fire. The vessel was carrying about 4,000 vehicles made by Volkswagen Group - including Porsches and Bentleys - from Germany to the US. As it was being towed, the Panama-flagged Felicity Ace plummeted due to structural problems caused by the fire and rough seas, according to a port official. Joao Mendes Cabecas, the captain of the nearest port on the island of Faial, said: "When the towing started… water started to come in. "The ship lost its stability and sank." Some 22 crew members were evacuated when the fire broke out on 16 February. Mr Cabecas said no oil leak has been reported at this time, but there are concerns the fuel tanks could be damaged. The vessel is now at the bottom of the Atlantic at a depth of about 3,500m (2.17 miles). Volkswagen previously said the damage to the vehicles was covered by insurance. The company - Europe's largest car-maker - confirmed the ship had sunk. The value of what was lost was estimated at $155m (£116) by insurance experts. THE SITE

The MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 8000 are built on TSMC’s 5nm process. MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 8000 chipsets were announced by the company on Tuesday. The company's new chipsets are aimed at the flagship segment and will go head-to-head with rival Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 SoC. The launch of the new chips comes four months after the debut of the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC, and smartphones with this chipset are expected in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the chip manufacturer also announced the launch of the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC, which is an upgraded version of the company's Dimensity 1200 chipset launched last year. The company revealed on Tuesday that the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 8000 chipsets will feature four Cortex-A78 performance cores and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, along with a Mali G610 MC6 GPU. The performance cores on the Dimensity 8100 offer 2.85GHz speeds, while the Dimensity 8100 offers up to 2.75GHz. The Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 8000 are built on TSMC's 5nm process. Both chipsets feature MediaTek's HyperEngine 5.0 technology for efficiency and improved frame rates — a maximum of 120fps for MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and 140fps for the Dimensity 8000 SoC. Meanwhile, the chipsets also support LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, according to the company. The chipsets feature the MiraVision 780 display engine and smartphones powered by these chipsets can support up to 168Hz refresh rate at full-HD+ (1,080x1,920 pixels) resolution, while the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC will also support 120Hz refresh rate at WQHD+ (1,440x2,560 pixels) resolution. The Dimensity 8000 chipsets are powered by a five gigapixel-per-second ISP for fast HDR photo and video capturing, according to MediaTek. Both the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 8000 chipsets will feature Imagiq 780 ISP with support for 200-megapixel cameras and HDR10+ video recording support at 4K resolution at 60fps. They will offer dual camera HDR video recording simultaneously on the front and rear camera, or two rear camera lenses. Similarly, both chipsets will offer 5G connectivity with an R16-ready 5G modem that offers 2CC carrier aggregation, and the company's UltraSave 2.0 power saving feature. However, like the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC, these chipsets do not support mmWave 5G connectivity. Both MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 8000 chipsets support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, according to the company. MediaTek also announced the debut of the Dimensity 1200 SoC as a successor to the 6nm Dimensity 1200 chipset launched last year. The chipset features a high-performance ARM Cortex-A78 core clocked at 3GHz, three performance Cortex-A78 cores, and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Smartphone enthusiasts will not have to wait for long as the MediaTek Dimensity 8100, Dimensity 8000, and Dimensity 1300 chipsets are set to debut on smartphones in “the first quarter of 2022” from some of the “world's biggest smartphone brands,” according to the company.

Windows 11 is struggling to get more users – what went wrong? A new report by AdDuplex reveals that Windows 11 is now installed on 19.3% of computers, suggesting that Microsoft is struggling to convince people to upgrade to its new operating system. While that number may seem initially impressive – after all, nearly 20% of all PCs is still a large number – it’s only a small increase of the 16.1% share AdDuplex reported the month earlier. Building momentum is incredibly important this early on in an operating system’s life, so the fact that upgrades are slowing down a few months after launch is going to be concerning for Microsoft. Meanwhile, Windows 10 21H1 is the most-used version of Windows with 27.5% share, a small drop from the previous month. Interestingly, Windows 10 21H2, which was released around the same time as Windows 11, has 21% market share. It seems that many Windows 10 users are upgrading to the newer version of Windows 10, rather than switching to Windows 11. That makes sense – many people would rather stick with what they know. It also highlights that Microsoft may not be making as convincing an argument for switching to Windows 11 as it needs to. The fact that older version of Windows 10, including Windows 10 20H2 on 17.9% and Windows 10 2004 on 7.9%, make up the bulk of the rest of the market, highlights the struggle Windows 11 faces. The data AdDuplex uses is from around 5,000 apps that use the AdDuplex v2 SDK on the Microsoft Store, and covers around 60,000 PCs. This means the survey only includes versions of Windows that come with the Microsoft Store (Windows 10 and Windows 11), so while this doesn’t give us a complete view of the operating system market, it does help us understand the po[CENSORED]rity of Windows 10 and Windows 11. Analysis: Why the Windows 11 hate? Since its launch, there seems to be quite a bit of negativity surrounding Windows 11, and this may be why Windows 10 users are hesitant to switch. When Microsoft announced Windows 11, many people were surprised. Not because of past comments by Microsoft that suggested that Windows 10 would be the last version of Windows released, but because Windows 10 still feels relatively modern. With the release of Windows 10 21H2, it’s also an operating system that continues to get new updates and features. For people using Windows 10 who are happy with the operating system, there doesn’t seem like a huge reason to switch to Windows 11. Windows 10 isn’t perfect, but that too might actually convince people to stick with the older OS. Microsoft had a rough patch where it released numerous Windows 10 updates that appeared to cause more problems than they fixed. This affected people’s confidence in Microsoft, and some may think if the company can’t get an operating system update right, what kind of problems would an entirely new operating system bring? Holding off from installing a new operating system as soon as it launches and sticking with your existing OS until early bugs and problems are fixed, is actually a pretty good idea. Once Microsoft corrects the Windows 11 problems (thankfully there aren’t too many) and addresses some of the complaints users have, we may see more Windows 10 users switch to Windows 11. Another valid reason why people may not upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 is the fact that they simply can’t. Microsoft made having TPM a requirement for Windows 11, and this has meant that many perfectly capable PCs can’t actually officially run the new operating system. We can’t see Microsoft changing its position on this (in fact, it’s made life harder for people running Windows 11 on unsupported hardware), so many people won’t upgrade to Windows 11 until they get new devices, and that could be years from now. Unfortunately, there is a growing negativity about Windows 11 as well. Many of its detractors are very vocal online, which could make people wary of upgrading. Some of these grumbles are definitely valid, but I increasingly feel like some of the hate is undeserved. Sure, Windows 11 has some frustrating quirks at the moment – the reduced functionality of the taskbar is particularly baffling – but Microsoft is continuing to add features and fix issues. The new user interface may take some getting used to, but it feels fresh and modern. I’ve also found Windows 11 to run well, with boot times particularly improved. While I don’t love the operating system (Microsoft still struggles to make anyone feel particularly fond of its software), I don’t hate it either. Microsoft needs to counter the negative opinion people are forming of Windows 11 as quickly as possible, and show people why they gain from upgrading to the new operating system. What it certainly doesn’t want to happen is for Windows 11 to be spoken about in the same way people talk about Windows Vista or Windows 8. Those two versions are widely derided as embarrassing failures – a fate that Windows 11 doesn’t deserve.

And the top-end laptop also gets a neat burgundy color. Ahead of Mobile World Congress, Samsung is announcing a new suite of premium Windows 11-based PCs under the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 (stylized "Book2") umbrella. The four new notebooks are the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360, a convertible 2-in-1 with Intel's 12th Gen Core P-series processors; the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro, a clamshell with P-series chips; the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 360, a consumer-grade convertible with Intel's 12th Gen U-series chips; and the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Business, an enterprise portable. The goal, it seems, is to have a lineup of laptops with different form factors and levels of power, albeit it all at fairly premium price points. The Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 is the flagship, with both clamshell and 2-in-1 capabilities. It's the only laptop in the lineup to exclusively use a Core i7 processor. Its other differentiation is the lack of a USB Type-A port. Instead, Samsung has opted for a Thunderbolt 4 port and a pair of USB Type-C ports. It also features a 1080p webcam and a fingerprint reader on the power key. It will come in 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch sizes. The smaller version will be 11.5 mm (0.45 inches) thick, while the model with the larger screen will measure 11.9 mm thick (0.47 inches). Additionally, the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 will come with the S Pen in the box. That will work on the laptop's 1080p Super AMOLED touch screen. If you like color, the Book 2 Pro 360 comes in three varieties: Silver, graphite, or an eye-catching burgundy. For those who prefer a standard clamshell, there's the Galaxy Book 2 Pro, which is thankfully a way simpler name than the other notebooks. It, too, will come in 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch sizes. The 15-inch version will be the only notebook in the consumer lineup with 5G, as well as Intel's discrete Arc graphics in some markets. Here, Samsung is trading out one of the USB-C ports for a Type-A port, suggesting that people who don't want touch screens will be more likely to desire legacy ports. It, too, gets a 1080p webcam, but its color options are more limited at just silver and graphite. The only non-Pro version, the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 360, uses Intel's U-series Core i5 and Core i7 processors, which should make it the most power efficient of the bunch. It gets a combination of the other two notebooks’ features, with a USB Type-A port and a Super AMOLED touchscreen. But apparently 1080p webcams are only for pros: this one steps down to 720p. Samsung's enterprise model, the Galaxy Book 2 Business, has a wide variety of specs that the company says will differ depending on which company you're in. That laptop has a 14-inch, 1080p screen, but no word of AMOLED like its consumer counterparts. It's a bit thicker at 0.77 inches, but that gets office workers more ports, including two USB-A ports to go along with Thunderbolt and USB-C. Like the 15.6-inch Galaxy Book Pro, this will have support for discrete graphics in the form of Nvidia's low-end MX570 A. It's notable that Samsung is sticking with 16:9 displays on its laptops. Many of the best ultrabooks now have a 16:10 or even 3:2, which are taller screens that make for less awkward tablet experiences. That would have been enticing to see on the Book 2 Pro 360, for instance. The Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 will start at $1,249.99, while the clamshell Book 2 Pro will start at $1,049.99. The non-pro Samsung Galaxy Book 2 360 will be cheaper, beginning at $899.99. No pricing has been announced for the business notebook. Pre-orders for the laptops start on March 18, and the company says they should arrive in stores on April 1, with the exception of the Galaxy Book 2 Business, which is expected to launch later in the spring.

Info : It ain't much, but it's honest work. Elden Ring has a brutal difficulty curve, especially if you're charging headfirst into its major Legacy dungeons. The enemies and bosses there can crush you in a single hit or wear down your resources so fast that it can be tough to make progress if you're unprepared. And one of the simplest ways to prepare is by investing in your stats, for which you'll require lots and lots of runes from fallen foes. For much of the early game—which, remember, will be a good amount of time in this massive open world—you'll be starved of opportunities to level up. You'll get through your first few levels quick enough, but each time you do the rune cost rises, and pretty soon the manageable enemies you've been feasting on won't be enough. Thankfully, you don't have to play by the rules, slowly harvesting runes as you explore the world and fight your way through its dungeons. There are places all over the Lands Beyond where you can net yourself a mountain of runes, often with little risk, by exploiting certain abilities, enemy patterns or the terrain. Limgrave Limgrave is the first area you'll explore, and once you get Torrent you'll be able to ride across it pretty swiftly while avoiding most enemies, unless you want to beat them up. If you've got your steed, you might want to check out this farming spot shown off by PowerPyx on YouTube. The method only begins in Limgrave, but will actually take you to a much higher level area. They claim it'll net you about 300,000 runes per hour, which is enough for many, many levels at the beginning of the game, even if you only do it for 10 or 20 minutes. The catch is that this method will send you from Lingrave to a much higher level area, with enemies that will take you out very quickly. Magic builds will have an easier time, though it's still absolutely viable for melee characters. First you have to head to the Third Church of Marika in Limgrave—it's located east of the first few Sites of Grace. From there, you need to go northeast until you find a portal sitting in water. This is actually connected to a side quest that you'll get for a character later on, but meeting them first isn't required. The portal takes you to Greyoll's Dragonbarrow, a high-level area in the north of Caelid that features one of the game's strangest characters, who you'll see right behind you when you arrive, along with a site of grace. Watch out for the big creature on the stairs in front of you as you leave, as you won't want to mess with it. Outside, you'll find some small, relatively weak enemies, and beyond them a bridge with another site of grace next to it. Grab the site of grace if you want, but don't cross the bridge. Instead, go back to the small enemies, because they are who you'll be farming. These little guys go down fast, and while a magic build will be helpful here, melee characters can still stagger them or employ stealth. The video claims you'll get 637 runes per kill, and there are quite a few of them, but upon testing it I found I was actually getting considerably more: 1094 runes per kill. The nearby site of grace will then let you keep respawning them. Just don't give them an opportunity to retaliate, as they can kill low level characters in a hit. Since you're already in Dragonbarrow anyway, you might as well hit up another cheesy farming spot nearby. This one is courtesy of TagBackTV on YouTube, and you don't need to get in any fights to fill your rune coffers. You'll need to make your way over to the Lenne's Rise Site of Grace, southeast of the one you should have activated next to the bridge earlier. You still don't want to cross that bridge, so instead double back a bit and take the route that will bring you to the smaller bridge to the east. Make sure to do this during the day, as there's a boss that appears on the bridge at night. There are a few enemies to avoid and some poison traps, but the Site of Grace is right at the end of the bridge, so it doesn't matter if you take a bunch of damage. Activate the Site of Grace and heal up, and then head down the path that takes you under the bridge you've been avoiding. Close to the top of the path is a trap—a magical boulder that will only appear when you're in front of it. Dash out of the way of the boulder and it will continue its trajectory, squashing something below and earning you a not-too-shabby 1952 runes. Then teleport back to the Site of Grace and do it all over again. You can also get another big payday by taking on the boss on the small bridge. You want to wait until after you've got the Lenne's Rise Site of Grace. Start there, then ride over to the boss at the other end of the bridge. Don't fight him, though. Instead, get him to chase you through all the poison traps. If you keep him following you, the poison will eventually kill him, giving you an impressive haul: 42,000 runes. This is just a one-time thing, but nice nonetheless. Liurnia Once you've conquered Stormveil Castle, the first Legacy dungeon, you'll probably have quite a lot of runes in your possession. But can you ever really have enough? Luckily there's a farming spot just up the road. You can find the spot near the Liurnia Highway North (past Stormveil Castle) Site of Grace, and you don't really need to do much here, since you can gain runes while AFK. Right next to the checkpoint are a bunch of soldiers fighting spiritual attackers and one giant (which you need to run over with your horse to trigger). The giant will smash most of the soldiers pretty quickly and grant you about 43 runes per kill. It's not much, but if you want to mindlessly do it while watching Netflix it could be useful. If you're in the area, you might as well. Raya Lucaria Academy is the next Legacy dungeon you'll encounter, and if you've got a strength build and a penchant for helping your fellow Tarnished, you can net yourself a very nice haul by farming its boss. Our features producer Nat used this method, with assistance from PCG contributor Samantha Greer and her massive sword. As Nat explains, "the big bad of the Academy, Rennala, is ridiculously easy to stagger," which means strong characters can toss her around like a rag doll. If that's your build, you should have an easier time with her, so you might want to use your skills to help other players and continue raking in the runes. Caelid If you've tried PowerPyx's farming method you'll already have visited Caelid by travelling through a portal. And you might want to stick around, as there's a very handy farming spot in this area that, like the Liurnia Highway North Site of Grace, allows you to get runes while just sitting around and chilling, and in much greater quantities. You'll need to reach the Impassable Greatbridge in the far south first. The best route to take isn't from the Site of Grace you unlocked in Caelid earlier, as it's far away and covered in enemies that will do you in quickly. Instead, head east from Limgrave, and then south, following the road through Caelid. You might as well pick up the Caelid map and unlock Sites of Grace on your way. Near the Impassable Greatbridge Site of Grace is a battle between soldiers and giant demon dogs. They'll start fighting the moment you approach them, and from there you can just sit back and relax. I recommend perching on the rocks next to the damaged wall, as you get a good view and you'll be out of danger. The soldiers will net you fewer than 200 runes each, but there are loads of them, while the dogs will give you 313. The soldiers always win the fight, but you can prolong it by dragging in a few other dogs that are hanging out just north of the battlefield. You should walk away with 2,000-3,000 runes per run, and with the Site of Grace right next to it, you can repeat the battle almost immediately. Just watch out for the soldiers on the tower next to you, as they will shoot you with their crossbows. There's some loot at the top of the tower, but you can ignore them if you want, as they won't be able to hit you if you're past the big fire, which you will be if you're sitting on the rock. With the exception of the Liurnia farming spots, all of these can be attempted as soon as you've got Torrent to carry you around quickly, giving you a ridiculous supply of runes right from the start. That should make getting through Stormveil and defeating its lords a lot easier. And keep checking back, as we'll be adding more locations as we discover them.

Info : Google confirmed it has temporarily disabled for Ukraine some Google Maps tools which provide live information about traffic conditions and how busy different places are. Alphabet's Google confirmed on Sunday it has temporarily disabled for Ukraine some Google Maps tools which provide live information about traffic conditions and how busy different places are. The company said it had taken the action of globally disabling the Google Maps traffic layer and live information on how busy places like stores and restaurants are in Ukraine for the safety of local communities in the country, after consulting with sources including regional authorities. Ukraine is facing attacks from Russian forces who invaded the country on Thursday. As missiles fell on Ukrainian cities, nearly 400,000 civilians, mainly women and children, have fled into neighbouring countries. Russia calls its actions in Ukraine a "special operation". Ads by Big tech companies including Google have said they are taking new measures to protect users' security in the region. Online services and social media sites have also been tapped by researchers piecing together activity around the war. A professor at California's Middlebury Institute of International Studies said Google Maps helped him track a "traffic jam" that was actually Russian movement towards the border hours before Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the attack. Google said live traffic information remained available to drivers using its turn-by-turn navigation features in the area.

Windows 11 has been changed so that it now presents a more visible warning, using a watermark on the desktop to caution those running the OS on an unsupported PC that the device doesn’t meet its system requirements – although this move is only in testing right now. It follows a previous tweak whereby Microsoft placed a cautionary ‘system requirements not met’ message within System Settings, again only in preview builds of Windows 11, but the watermark – which appears above the system tray (where the clock is, bottom-right) – is a far heavier-handed warning. Again, it states ‘system requirements not met’, but its permanent presence as a desktop watermark, in the same vein as the Windows warning that the OS isn’t activated, is a definite eyesore and a more annoying introduction. Windows Latest spotted this, and further observes that Microsoft is currently testing the new watermark with some Windows 11 users running preview builds, and gauging reaction. So, while this may not necessarily make the cut for the release version of Windows 11, it could well do in theory. Given this, and the addition of the previous minor warning under Settings, we can guess that Microsoft’s intention is to go further down the road of taking action against Windows 11 being run on unsupported machines. Analysis: Unsupported PCs effectively on borrowed time? The long and short of this latest move is that those running Windows 11 on a PC which doesn’t meet the system requirements are seemingly on borrowed time. When the previous warning was introduced in settings, we recall some commentators saying ‘at least it’s not a desktop watermark or something horrible like that’. Well, now it is a permanent watermark, in test builds anyway. We’ve said all along that Microsoft has maintained that when it comes to unsupported PCs, Windows 11 updates won’t be delivered, and even though they are still piped through to these systems now, eventually it seems very likely they won’t be. This potential shift up a gear with warnings is another indication that Microsoft will actually cut support for updates perhaps sooner rather than later, so anyone running Windows 11 on an unsupported device needs to begin rethinking their operating system strategy. Microsoft has always maintained that using Windows 11 on a PC that doesn’t meet its requirements could cause ‘damage’ to the machine. And really, the only reason there are loopholes to get the new OS on such devices is to allow folks to give Windows 11 a run out and test to see if they like it, presumably with the hope that if this is the case, they will upgrade whatever elements are necessary to fully support the operating system. At any rate, it’s very much starting to look like the day when updates are cut-off completely may not be all that far away.

Finding the suitable input module is often a critical part of Raspberry Pi project design. Whether you’re using buttons, switches, or potentiometers, a nice input module can give your project the professional finish it needs. Today we’re sharing a helpful project from Vernon with NerdCave, demonstrating how easy it is to use the Raspberry Pi Pico to accept and use input from a joystick module. Vernon describes NerdCave as a channel dedicated to microelectronics projects with a focus on content for the general maker community and educators. This project is shared as a demonstration and as a tutorial for makers to follow along. In the video, Vernon breaks down how to connect a joystick module to the Raspberry Pi Pico and program it to respond from a series of LEDs. It’s easily adaptable as user input for various projects, including things like game controllers, drone/robot controllers, or even just as general input for menu navigation. To recreate this project, makers will need a Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller. If you want to tinker, a breadboard would be ideal for recycling the later-project components. It requires an analog joystick module, LEDs, resistors, and jumper wires. The Pico is programmed using MicroPython to check if the user is tilting the joystick in a particular direction or pressing it as a button. In the demonstration, the LEDs illuminate, corresponding with the joystick direction. Overall the project is simple to construct–or at least Vernon’s explanation makes it seem that way. To get a closer look at how it all goes together, check out the tutorial video shared on YouTube on the official NerdCave channel. You can also explore the source code for the demo over at Vernon’s GitHub page. As far as Raspberry Pi projects go, this is great for beginners who are new to microelectronics or even more experienced makers looking to experiment with the Pico microcontroller. There’s plenty of Pi to go around; read through our list of best Raspberry Pi projects to see what else the community is up to and maybe even find a project to recreate yourself.

Elden Ring had severe stuttering issues at launch on PC, some of which have since been alleviated, though performance problems still persist. FromSoftware has called for patience as the studio irons out some of the game's more egregious issues, but if you're lucky enough to own a Steam Deck, Valve itself is on the case. Valve programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed on Twitter today that the company is working on fixes for Elden Ring's heavy stutter on Steam Deck. "The graphics team has been hard at work on optimizing Elden Ring for Steam Deck," Griffais wrote. "Fixes for heavy stutter during background streaming of assets will be available in a Proton release next week, but are available to test now on the bleeding-edge branch of Experimental. Griffais shows how to access that branch in the video embedded below, but here's those instructions in old-fashioned text format. Search for Proton Experimental in the Steam Deck store, then select settings (the cog icon). Scroll to Properties, then Betas, and then select "bleeding-edge - latest and untested dxvk, vkd3d-proton and wine changes. Good news for Steam Deck owners. For everyone else, Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco has listed some of its main priorities for fixing the RPG on PC, including mouse sensitivity, "the phenomenon of frame rate and other performance-related issues" and a weird bug with Easy Anti-Cheat that doesn't play nice with certain Steam account names. Steam Deck finally released last week, and Wes likes it, likening it to a Leatherman, among other things. "The Steam Deck is bulky for a handheld, but makes up for it with unrivaled versatility and a killer price.

Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister on Friday urged Apple top boss Tim Cook to cut supply of its products and block access to App Store in Russia. Mykhailo Fedorov, who is also Ukraine's Minister of Digital Transformation, tweeted a copy of the letter sent to Cook asking the iPhone maker to "stop supplying Apple services and products to the Russian Federation, including blocking access to App Store." Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Russian President Vladimir Putin started a three-pronged invasion of Ukraine from the north, east, and south on Thursday, in an attack that threatened to upend Europe's post-Cold War order. "In 2022, modern technology is perhaps the best answer to the tanks, multiple rocket launchers (hrad) and missiles," Fedorov said. Ads by "I am deeply concerned with the situation in Ukraine. We're doing all we can for our teams...and will be supporting local humanitarian efforts," Cook had tweeted on Thursday. Fedorov also voiced support for US sanctions on Russia. On Thursday, US President Joe Biden announced sweeping sanctions against Russia, cutting off major Russian banks and hammering access to global exports of goods from commercial electronics and computers to semiconductors and aircraft parts.

Reddit has released an update to its mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices that adds a Discover tab, allowing you to find new content and subreddits that you've not come across before, similar to TikTok's 'For You' tab. The platform is a place of many communities that can apply to many franchises, products, and brands. Its users, or Redditors as the company calls them, usually subscribe to these, which are called subreddits. But across the site and the app, you would usually find new categories and topics by the algorithm showcasing trending content on the main page, or by searching for something manually. However, Reddit is aware that there are better ways for its Redditors to discover new content thanks to this update, available for iOS and Android. Analysis: About time, Reddit It can be difficult to find new content on Reddit, compared to other social media apps such as TikTok and Instagram. While the website had a design refresh 2018, it didn't go far enough when making it clear how you could navigate subreddits, or being accessible for new users. With its app for iOS and Android, Reddit feels much better to navigate thanks to its different design compared to the website. But Apollo, a third-party app does the same function with an even better interface. The new Discover feature is going to help close the gap for Reddit against Apollo here, but the next step should be how this can work for its website, which arguably still houses a design that's from the late nineties. If it can attempt another redesign of its site that makes it easier to navigate to new users, alongside making existing content look more appealing, Reddit may appeal to an even bigger userbase than it has now. In a sign that the United States government's export restrictions on semiconductor sales to Russia due to its war against Ukraine have been enacted swiftly, multiple reports have emerged today that both Intel and AMD have suspended chip sales to Russia. In addition, reports have also emerged that TSMC's decision to participate in the sanctions will thwart Russia's supply of homegrown chips. We have reached out to Intel, AMD, and Nvidia for comment. The Russian media outlets also claim that the suspensions have been confirmed by the Association of Russian Developers and Electronics Manufacturers (ARPE). Additionally, Chinese IT companies are said to have been notified by Intel that sales to Russia have been banned. The extent of the halted sales is currently unclear. The new export restrictions are primarily aimed at chips for military purposes or dual-use chips that could be used for both civilian and military purposes. That means sales of most consumer-focused chips, like AMD's Ryzen and Intel's Core chips, likely won't be impacted. However, it is widely expected that there will be a temporary halt for all semiconductor sales to Russia as companies work to decide which products are impacted. Additionally, the US DoC has added 49 Russian companies to the Entity List, and those companies aren't eligible to purchase any type of chip. The new US export restrictions are akin to the sanctions leveled at Huawei, but they apply to an entire country — a first. Russia has prepared for years to deal with potential sanctions, especially in the wake of the international sanctions in 2014 after its actions in Crimea, by both promoting its own indigenous semiconductor production and also stockpiling chips for just such an occurrence. However, Russia's domestically-designed chips from companies like Baikal, MCST, Yadro, and STC Module are actually manufactured by Taiwan-based TSMC, which has agreed to also suspend sales to the country to comply with the new export restrictions. That means Russia's supply of homegrown chips is also cut off. While companies like Intel and AMD are reportedly suspending sales immediately, that won't have an immediate devastating impact on the industry. According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, the Russian government accounts for less than 0.1% of global chip purchases, while the broader Russian market represents roughly $50.3 billion out of the $4.47 trillion global semiconductor market. Instead, the impact is expected to be felt when supercomputers, networking, military chips, and the like fail or need upgrades. In those cases, Russia would be forced to acquire the chips illicitly. We've reached out to Intel, AMD, and Nvidia for comment and will update as necessary.

There’s a handy feature in Elden Ring that helps guide players down a suggested critical path with beams of light shooting out of checkpoints. If you're new to Souls games, following that path is a lot safer than what my friend did. You see, my friend started wandering around carefree as soon as he was allowed to, opened up a random treasure chest, and then ended up in hell. Mild Elden Ring spoilers ahead: This is a fun discovery to make on your own, but it's also a punishing area to arrive in immediately. Read on if you'd like to avoid it. Seriously, there's a treasure chest just minutes away from Elden Ring's starting area that will literally kidnap you and take you somewhere else. Once you're there, you can't fast travel back to the comfort of Limgrave until you've fought (or ran) through a particularly nasty little cave. I decided to poke the bear and check it out myself, but I wasn't prepared for how freaking mean the enemies are here. Where to find the trapped chest If you're wondering where this troublesome chest is waiting for you, it's a spot called the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. It sits just west of the first Limgrave site of grace submerged in some gross ankle-deep water. The ruins themselves are deceptively simple. The only enemies you'll find here are pushover zombies with torches, a few feisty dogs, and dumb rats. It presents itself as such an easy win that it feels like a tutorial for Elden Ring's many hidden dungeons. Nestled at the bottom of some stairs, past a rat-filled room, is your "prize" chest. Open it and a cloud of smoke engulfs your body, revealing itself as a "transporter trap". Then you end up in a wild cave called the Sellia Crystal Tunnel. I'll skip details, but know that you'll be immediately accosted by a bunch of rocky jerks at once. You can't fast travel away until you've left this cave, so you're gonna have to fight, run, or sneak (though stealth will probably only hold for a minute). The problem with fighting is that most of the enemies are resistant to blades as far as I can tell—slashes from my samurai katana kept bouncing off until I switched to two-handed mode. If you head downhill, you won't have to go too far to find a site of grace. From there, you can step outside the cave to be greeted with a fresh hell that only FromSoftware could have thought up called Caelid. It kinda looks like an underwater reef, but evil. Once you've seen it, you're finally allowed to enter your map and fast travel away. Considering how much trouble those rocky guys gave me, I think I'll avoid this Bloodorne-looking dimension until my samurai's a bit stronger. This is basically how I've tackled From games since Dark Souls 2, but Elden Ring's sandbox map makes it a bit easier to accidentally end up somewhere I probably shouldn't be. That's why it's nice that I can usually travel to any bonfir–ahem, site of grace I've been to at any time. Booby-trapped chests aren't the only way to screw yourself over early in Elden Ring. There's also an NPC that you should definitely meet early on or miss out on an important combat tool.
