Queen of soulful Sufi music, Harshdeep Kaur turned 34 today. With her soothing voice, Kaur has recorded songs for movies in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil and Urdu, and has established herself as a leading playback singer of Indian music industry. Kaur first came to spotlight in 2008 as she participated and won the singing competition Junoon – Kuch Kar Dikhaane Ka on NDTV Imagine. Kaur competed from the Sufi Ki Sultan genre which was mentored by Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. She was declared the Sufi Ki Sultana by Amitabh Bachchan, who was the chief guest at the Grand Finale. The reality show was a competition amongst three musical genres Sufi, Folk, and Bollywood. Singers from India and Pakistan participated in the show where Kaur wore a unique Sufi attire that became symbolic of the singer’s identity. With her unique sound quality, Kaur has landed opportunities to work with leading music directors including A R Rahman, Pritam Chakraborty, Vishal-Shekhar, Salim Sulaiman, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Amit Trivedi and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She also happens to be one of the very few Indian singers to have sung for a Hollywood film. Her track R.I.P. composed by AR Rahman was a part of Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle's film 127 Hours. She has also lent her voice to a few songs for the Pakistani film and television industry. Let’s take a look at some of Harshdeep Kaur’s greatest hits: 1. Dilbaro: From the movie Raazi, this wedding song is full of deep emotions. Accompanied by Kaur’s voice, the melancholy of a bride leaving her father’s house is elevated even more. 2. Katiya Karoon: Composed by Academy Award winner AR Rahman, Katiya Karoon is an amalgamation of fun Punjabi beats and deep soulful ballad. Kaur plays out both the themes with her sublime voice. 3. Heer: Written by Gulzar and composed by AR Rahman, Heer is a soulful ballad sung by Harshdeep Kaur who brings in the deep pain of separation between two lovers. The song was part of Yash Chopra’s last movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan. 4. Zaalima: A romantic song picturised on king of romance Shah Rukh Khan and Pakistani actor Mahira Khan, Zaalima is a perfect love song. 5. Jugni: From the movie Cocktail, Jugni is a powerful rock ballad sung by Kaur and Arif Lohar. Her other po[CENSORED]r songs include Jalte Diye from Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Nachde Ne Saare from Baar Baar Dekho, Twist Kamariya from Bareilly Ki Barfi among many others.

What is it? You might want to sit down for this: the new Dacia Sandero has a reach-and-rake adjustable steering wheel. There are LED headlights, too. There’s even a touchscreen (on certain trim levels). Okay, it’s easy to be flippant about these sorts of things, but they serve to show just how much Dacia has overhauled the Sandero. It may still be the UK’s cheapest car (prices start from £7995 and rise to our top-spec test car’s £11,595) and it’s still called the Sandero, but it’s a total contrast between this version and the last. For starters, this car sits on the all-new CMF platform. That means it shares its underpinnings with the Renault Clio and promises greater rigidity with less weight. We’ll get to what all that means in a tick, but here’s a teaser: it’s good news. Those new headlights, along with more LEDs at the rear, help to set this car apart from its predecessor. Although the overall dimensions remain the same, the track is a useful 41mm wider and the wheelbase is 15mm longer. Coupled with the new, sharper styling and little touches like the chrome on the grille, this makes the new Sandero less frumpy than before, bringing its style intent closer to mainstream rivals like the Skoda Fabia. The increased wheelbase is handy because it means rear-seat passengers get more leg room, but the big news in the cabin is the frankly staggering uptick in quality. It actually looks like someone has taken some care now, whereas before it was cheap and drab. What's it like? Granted, there are no soft-touch plastics, but the padded cloth running around the cabin lifts the ambience (who ever thought we would be talking about that in a Sandero?) and even the air vents look as if they’ve had a once-over from a stylist. Previously, it seemed like it was made to look and feel cheap to hammer home the value aspect. This time, it’s a different attitude and sense of quality, and you can tell. The dominant 8.0in touchscreen looks smart, and although it’s entirely devoid of buttons, there’s a handy set of stereo controls behind the steering wheel. This infotainment system is standard on the range-topping Comfort, while lower trims have to make do with Media Control, which is basically just your smartphone wedged in the dashboard. But we shouldn’t be flippant: reasoning that everyone has a smartphone these days, Dacia feels that even if you can’t stretch to the top-spec trim, you will still want to run a navigation tool safely, so it offers a Media Control app as a free download for your phone as well as somewhere to keep said phone within easy reach. We haven’t tried it out yet, but the theory seems sensible. There are three engines to choose from, all petrol. There’s the SCe 65, the turbocharged TCe 90 and the TCe 100 Bi-Fuel. Dacia is still keen to plug LPG as an alternative fuel but, given the wider current push for electrification, it’s difficult to see this as a long-term strategy. Either way, power ranges from 64bhp to 99bhp and, in the case of our TCe 90 car, rests at 89bhp and 118lb ft, the latter from a useful 2100rpm. That means 0-62mph takes a leisurely 11.7sec; in the SCe 65, it’s a glacial 16.7sec. In the TCe 90, it’s worth sticking to between 2000-4000rpm. Below that it’s a bit gutless and above that it just shouts more without delivering any extra shove. It’s a thrummy little three-cylinder engine, not the most refined but happy enough as you shift between the gears. The manual lever is shorter now and has a less rubbery action than of old; it’s still not as precise as that in the Honda Jazz, but it’s perfectly acceptable given the Sandero’s price. Remember the CMF platform we mentioned earlier? Not only has it helped make the Sandero more spacious but also made it handle better. Grip levels are improved, the car rolls less than the old one and it’s more comfortable, flowing across the asphalt more easily. It’s no Fiesta in terms of its adjustability through the steering and throttle, and the Ford remains the class benchmark. But considering the price of the Sandero, it can be hustled along far more quickly than you would have thought. It’s a night-and-day improvement over the previous car, to the point that a long journey in this thing is no longer a daunting prospect. With the right road, it could even be enjoyable. Should I buy one? Really, that’s what’s so impressive about this latest Sandero. We all know that Dacia can offer a cheap, value-driven car better than anyone, but now, dare we say it, it’s also beginning to provide a suggestion of a desirable product, especially when you take into account that it still charges bargain prices. The Sandero used to appeal simply because it cost little; now it’s likeable simply because it’s a really good car.

Australia will challenge China's tariff on its barley exports in an appeal to the World Trade Organization (WTO). It marks the first defensive action from Australia in response to a number of China's sanctions on a range of goods this year. Beijing has imposed blockages or levies to dairy, meat, wine and others as political tensions have worsened. This has caused alarm in Australia as China is its biggest trading partner, accounting for close to 40% of exports. Earlier this week, Chinese state-controlled media reported that Australian exports of thermal coal - the third biggest export to China - would face restrictions. Beijing declined to confirm the reports. It has previously accused Australia of "unfriendly" and "hostile" attitudes towards it. How a Twitter spat brought China-Australia relations to new lows Why did China really go cold turkey on Australian wine? Tensions have grown over China's alleged foreign interference and influence in Australian affairs. 'Taking it to the umpire' China's 80% tariff on barley - imposed in May - was the first Australian agricultural export to be sanctioned this year, and came after Chinese trade officials alleged illegal dumping practices. The Australian government has denied this, and said its repeated requests to Beijing for dialogue on the trade blows have been ignored. Speaking on Wednesday, Australia's trade minister said it was the "appropriate next step" for the country to escalate the matter to the global trade body. "We ask the independent umpire to adjudicate and ultimately help settle those disputes," said Simon Birmingham. He added that Australia remained opened to solving the dispute outside of the WTO case "if both parties are willing to come to the table". Last week, he accused China of undermining the two nations' free trade agreement - a 2015 deal which lowered tariffs and increased access to goods. Analysts estimate that about a quarter of Australia's A$80bn export goods to China have been affected so far in the political row. On Tuesday, in response to the reports about coal, Beijing's foreign ministry said "some people from the Australian side claim to be the so-called victims". Spokesman Wang Wengbin added that Australia had blocked or cancelled the contracts of Chinese businesses in Australia on unsubstantiated grounds. Canberra has blocked some deals on the basis of national security concerns.

Our test PC, with full specs listed on the right, is basically maxed out in nearly every area. The Core i9-10900K is Intel's fastest current CPU (for gaming purposes at least), we're using the RTX 3090 Founders Edition to ensure the GPU minimizes bottlenecks as much as possible, and we've got a high-end motherboard, liquid cooling, storage, and power keeping everything running. Then we've got the three memory kits that we've used for testing. At the top of the ladder sits the 4x8GB Patriot Viper DDR4-4000 CL19 kit. We've run this in both 4x8GB and 2x8GB. Next, we have a Corsair 2x16GB kit rated for DDR4-3600 CL16. Finally, we have an old 2x4GB kit of DDR4-2666 CL16 memory from Corsair at the bottom end of the spectrum. It really is an old kit, as it was once used in an X99 Haswell-E build. This is something of the worst-case scenario for a modern platform. We've been pounding on Cyberpunk 2077 benchmarks with our GPU testing and CPU thread fixes. But what about memory? Does your PC's memory configuration matter? Of course, the answer is yes, but we wanted to see just how much it matters. We've run a handful of benchmarks on an Intel Core i9-10900K system, not because it's necessarily the fastest CPU for playing Cyberpunk 2077, but because Intel's Z490 platform tends to have better compatibility with memory kits. The results here should apply to X570 Zen 3 and Zen 2 CPUs and other platforms as well, but we haven't taken the time to confirm that yet. Consider these preliminary findings as yet another data point if you're trying to build the ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 PC. Note that the 4GB and 8GB sticks are single rank, while the 16GB sticks are dual rank, so there's a slight advantage for the latter. This is the RAM we had on hand, however, and most 16GB DIMMs are dual rank while 8GB DIMMs are single rank, so short of procuring dual rank 8GB DIMMs or single rank 16GB DIMMs, we can't fully separate capacity from rank. Whether it's capacity or rank, though, we'll see how 16GB compares to 32GB. We're using the same benchmarking methodology as in our other Cyberpunk 2077 performance articles. We walk around Night City just outside of V's apartment, following the same route each time, and log frametimes using OCAT. We test at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K using the medium, ultra, and RT ultra presets. Each test is repeated twice, plus an extra run at 1080p that gets discarded, and we reboot after switching the graphics preset. Here are the results, broken down into medium, ultra, and RT ultra testing. Starting with 1080p medium, we see some of the largest differences between the memory kits. That makes sense as this is the setting most likely to hit CPU bottlenecks, which go hand in hand with memory bottlenecks. The fastest configuration is the 4x8GB DDR4-4000 CL19 kit, followed closely by the 2x16GB DDR4-3600 kit. 32GB of high speed memory ended up improving performance by up to 20 percent compared to the slowest kits, though capacity is also a factor. The 2x16GB DDR4-2666 kit is about 12 percent slower than the same kit running at DDR4-3600 speeds. 1440p doesn't change things much, but 4K medium pushes the bottleneck over to the GPU enough that there's only about a 3 percent spread from the fastest to the slowest kit. That's almost margin of error for these tests, since Cyberpunk 2077 is an open world that doesn't guarantee the same NPC behavior between runs.

The degree to which the Switch has bounced back from the troubles of the Wii U is nothing short of impressive. In under a year, the Switch outsold the Wii U from a hardware perspective. In a little over a year, the Switch surpassed the total software sales of the Wii U. I know what you're thinking: leave it to Chris to talk at length about the Wii U in a Switch Game of the Year post. Classic! Let's get back on track here, because 2020 was an amazing year for games. Very early on during our quarantine reality, Animal Crossing: New Horizons popped up and sold millions of copies. Although it's faded from the spotlight a bit Nintendo is still doing seasonal events for it, and sales are still climbing. It's already the number two best-selling Switch game of all time, and it may surpass Mario Kart 8 (number one) eventually. It's a juggernaut. Hades is also one of the clear favorites, which is in a unique position of being a console exclusive on Switch. But there's plenty of other games right on its heels, including the incredible follow-up to the Bloodstained retro spinoff, Curse of the Moon 2, and a surprise-hit Age of Calamity, which is now the best-selling Warriors game of all time. Add Clubhouse Games, Mario 3D All-Stars, and Darksiders Genesis into the pot and baby, you got a stew goin'! Join us next week to celebrate the winner together. These are the nominees for Destructoid's Best Switch Game of 2020: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics Super Mario 3D All-Stars Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 Darksiders Genesis Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Hades

International Tea Day is marked every year by tea-producing countries in the world on December 15. The day is celebrated to draw the attention of people and to foresee the amount of impact brought by the tea trade to the workers and the farmers. Countries like India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Indonesia, Uganda, Malaysia, and Tanzania, among others, observe this day in December every year. For all the tea lovers, there is just one significant question: What makes tea 'good'? Or what separates the good from the great? Well, there are some key pointers to help in spotting quality markers for a deeper understanding of tea and tea production. A host of factors play a role in judging the best tea. It goes beyond price and quality. Tea experts usually assess the following categories when it comes to strict quality markers: Look of the leaf While dry leaves of a tea have a lot to tell, they also deceive easily being one of the most easy quality markers to fake. So, the style of tea contains the most reason when assessing the look of the leaf. Whole leaves, with consistent shape and colour, are believed to be most important. Lower quality leaves are found to be broken, bitsy, or dusty and uneven in colour or shape. This, along with other reasons, is why usually bagged teas are perceived of a lower quality than loose leaf tea. Taste This part is more like wine tasting as you are looking to aerate the tea in your mouth. A little squishing and slurping helps to get the most out of the taste and to get a real feel for quality. You want a taste that is clear, complex and balanced. Mouthfeel A trait usually difficult to describe in words and impossible for producers to fake. Mouthfeel relates to texture and you want it to be thicker and more complex than water. A high-quality tea gives a lingering mouthfeel, it sits on your palate longer than the tea liquid itself does. Finish It takes a few sips, or more to get a real idea of the finish. The finish can be defined roughly as how long they last – flavors and sensations lingering in your mouth after a sip. You want to understand how the flavor changes, persists or deepens. This testing quality offers more than one can think. Do you feel or think of the tea, a while after your last sip. That is a great quality tea.

A man who murdered nine people after contacting them on Twitter has been sentenced to death, in a high-profile case that has shocked Japan. Takahiro Shiraishi, dubbed the "Twitter killer", was arrested in 2017 after body parts were found in his flat. He had pleaded guilty to the murders in October, saying the allegations against him were "all correct". Almost all of his victims were young women. The case has triggered debate over how suicide is discussed online. The 30-year-old had used Twitter to lure suicidal women to his home, saying he could help them die and in some cases claimed he would kill himself alongside them. The serial killings first came to light on Halloween in 2017 when police found dismembered body parts in Shiraishi's flat in the Japanese city of Zama, near Tokyo. His lawyers had earlier argued that his charges should have been reduced, claiming his victims had given consent to be killed. Shiraishi however later disputed his own defence team's version of events, and said he killed without their consent. On Tuesday, the judge who delivered the verdict said that "none of the victims agreed to be killed". "The defendant was found to be fully responsible," said Naokuni Yano, reported The Straits Times newspaper. [Auto] Long-awaited Jeep seven-seater seen disguised in Europe
Agent47 posted a topic in Auto / Moto
Jeep appears to be readying a new seven-seat SUV for the European market, according to new images. Spy shots taken in Italy show a heavily disguised test mule apparently based on the brand's mid-sized Compass model. While that car's front-end design can be made out, the rear half of the vehicle is almost completely hidden from view. What we can see, however, is a wheelbase that appears substantially longer than that of the standard Compass and a further elongated rear overhang. Although Jeep has yet to comment officially on the shots, it's highly likely that this is a testbed for an upcoming three-row model. It looks markedly different from previously seen prototypes of the next-gen Grand Cherokee, though, and appears smaller in size. What remains unclear is whether the car will effectively be a seven-seat version of the Compass or a new model in its own right. Despite the clear base of this mule, it's entirely possible that Jeep is simply using an existing bodyshell and adapting that SUV's platform for a related but separate model. Certainly, a seven-seat Compass would give Jeep a vital competitor to a number of three-row models, including the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Peugeot 5008 and, looking more upmarket, models such as the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Mercedes-Benz GLB. Jeep hasn't offered a true seven-seater in the UK since the Commander, which sold in limited numbers between 2006 and 2010 before being axed. Late former Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne famously called that car "unfit for human consumption" shortly after production ended. The brand recently revealed the Grand Wagoneer concept, a flagship SUV with the option of seven seats taking aim at the Range Rover Sport and BMW X5. However, that car is also unconfirmed for Europe, although bosses previously told Autocar the model is still under consideration for other markets. -

Update: The GoPro Hero 9 deal expires at midnight PST, meaning it'll be finished at 3am EST / 8am GMT on Monday morning, according to the fine print of the official GoPro store. Buy it while you can. The GoPro Hero 9 Black is one of the best action cameras you can buy – and an even sweeter purchase thanks to a deal that reduces the price and throws in some extras. Expiring tonight, the GoPro Hero 9 is $100 off in the US and £100 off in the UK at the official GoPro.com store. The normal MSRP / RRP for this action camera costs $449 / £429, but it can be had for $349 / £329 until midnight PST (GoPro HQ's local time). What's more is that this deal throws in an extra battery and a 64GB microSD card. In the US you can add the Hero 9 Black dual battery charger which includes yet another spare battery for $34.99 (a $50 value and a no-brainer extra pickup). There is a caveat to this cheap GoPro deal, but one that still makes it worth the final price, according to our deals expertise. The special prices requires a one-year GoPro subscription. The service gets you unlimited cloud storage, total camera replacement and up to 50% off at the official GoPro store (think: buying fun GoPro accessories). This adds $49.99 / £49.99 to the total, but you're essentially getting it for free along with an extra battery and microSD card and still saving another $50 / £50 on the Hero 9 launch price that many people paid back starting on September 16. Other GoPro 9 Black deals Right now, you can get the GoPro Hero 9 Black for $50 off through Amazon US and nearly £55 from Amazon UK if you don't want the bundle for some reason. Cash-strapped? GoPro Hero 8 is cheap now too The GoPro Hero 8 Black is discounted in both the US and UK, costing $279 / £315, if you can live without the color LCD front display, extra battery life and other new Hero 9 features we outlined in GoPro Hero 9 vs GoPro Hero 8 comparison.

Regardless of your processor or GPU, Cyberpunk 2077 can push your system to the limits. However, resourceful redditors have discovered that the game code significantly harms performance on some AMD processors, because it apparently checks to see if your CPU uses Team Red's 2011-era Bulldozer platform and, if not, limits the number of available threads. Fortunately, the same folks have also crafted a simple fix that can lead to big performance gains with some AMD Ryzen processors under specific conditions. We put the fix to the test with several Ryzen CPUs, including some of the best CPUs, to determine which processors benefit and under what conditions. We logged up to a 23% gain in some Cyberpunk 2077 benchmarks, so the fix is definitely worthwhile if you're limited by the performance of your Ryzen CPU. We'll also outline how you can apply the fix yourself. Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most hotly-anticipated games of all time, but it's absolutely punishing on your PC, especially if you want to play at heightened resolutions and fidelity (see our evaluation of Cyberpunk system requirements). As usual, the community has begun investigating the best settings for the game and searching for useful hacks. The biggest hack to emerge centers around Cyberpunk's apparent inability to use AMD Ryzen processors to the fullest. Instead of using all of the threads available to the processor, the game code only runs on physical cores in some circumstances. As a result, some threads are left unused, leaving potential performance on the table. These same problems don't appear to apply to Intel's processors, but we're also busy testing several Core models to make sure. We're working on getting a better description of the problem from the game developers. For now, AMD's problem appears to stem from the GPUOpen software suite that Cyberpunk 2077 uses to detect the processor installed in the system. Apparently, this check determines whether or not the AMD chip is a Bulldozer model, and if it isn't, the software assigns the chip half the number of scheduler threads. That leads to the underutilization of some of AMD's processors. The fix is relatively simple, but as with any unsanctioned and unofficial fix, proceed at your own risk. Also, the fix doesn't work under all conditions. As we'll show below, you should be aware that some hardware configurations can actually lose performance as a result. Also, be aware that the fix tends to result in higher CPU utilization on Ryzen processors, even if the particular model doesn't benefit from the patch. How to Apply the Cyberpunk 2077 AMD 'Fix' You can find detailed instructions on applying the fix in several locations; there's a PCGaminWiki listing, a video, and a reddit post with more info on applying the fix manually. New software that automatically applies the 'fix' is already in circulation, but always exercise caution with unverified software - there could be malware lurking.

This, broadly speaking, has been a year of silver linings. It's the only way you can stay sane. If you focus exclusively on all the ways our lives have been upended in 2020, you'll doom and gloom yourself into sleeping 18 hours a day. Everyone has to take the positives and appreciate the things that bring them joy. That's why it pleases me to say: This year, surprisingly and against all odds, was actually pretty [CENSORED] fantastic for video games. You may have heard there are new consoles. That's not a huge point of emphasis here, as Xbox Series X-exclusive titles aren't a huge point of emphasis for Microsoft. Instead, everything works cross-generation while simply running best on Series X. It means that the best Xbox stuff mostly launched earlier in the year. (Despite backward compatibility being such an important Xbox feature, I'm told I can't nominate Forza Horizon 4 for 2020 GOTY.) It's not a new-gen showcase, but it's mostly an Xbox Game Pass showcase. Nearly everything here (five of the seven games, by my count) are available for Game Pass subscribers to download and play either on consoles, PC, or their mobile devices via cloud streaming. That's what's important to Microsoft. Not how many people buy consoles, but how many people continuously pay to be part of this ecosystem. To its credit, Microsoft has created a value proposition that people want to take advantage of. To nip it in the bud -- no, none of these games are true Xbox exclusives. Microsoft's commitment to PC support through Play Anywhere meant that Xbox exclusives went the way of the Dodo years ago. Besides Crash, every game here is first-party, on Game Pass, or wrapped up in some sort of exclusivity deal. That's a much better position than past years where the Xbox category was largely "Here's a first-party game or two, and then a bunch of stuff that didn't fit anywhere else but should be represented somewhere." These are the nominees for Destructoid's Best Xbox Game of 2020: Carrion Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time Doom Eternal Journey to the Savage Planet Minecraft Dungeons Ori and the Will of the Wisps Phantasy Star Online 2

Volkswagen will ramp up plans to become the global leader in electric car sales in 2021 with the launch of a high-performance GTX variant of the ID 4 SUV and a new ID 5 coupé-crossover. The two new models will be joined by an updated ID 3 capable of delivering faster charging times. VW CEO Ralf Brandstätter has confirmed that they will be followed by production versions of the long-anticipated retro-styled ID Buzz in 2022 and the ID Vizzion saloon and estate in 2023 Those vehicles will all be built on the VW Group’s EV-only MEB architecture. In the longer term, work is intensifying on a more compact MEB-Lite platform, which will underpin the planned ID 1 hatch and ID 2 crossover. VW scaling up EV targets Although VW had previously predicted that EVs would make up 35% of its total sales by the end of the decade, Brandstätter said the firm is looking to raise that target. “We see the potential for electric models to take up to 55% of our annual sales by 2030,” he said. The renewed optimism follows the launch of the ID 3 and the recent unveiling of the ID 4, which has just gone on sale in China, VW’s largest single market. In China, VW’s two main joint-venture partners will sell different locally produced variants of the SUV, with VW-FAW offering the ID 4 Crozz and VW-SAIC selling the ID 4 X. The ID 4 will also be the first model in the range to be built and sold in the US and marks a major escalation in VW’s electric ambitions. The more aggressive target also reflects the increasing number of countries, including the UK, that have set dates for the switch to zero-emission-only new cars and VW’s rapid expansion of its EV plans. The VW Group is committed to spending £64 billion on electric, hybrid and digital technology developments in the next five years. ID 4 GTX to showcase electric performance Kicking off the next wave of ID models is the new ID 4 GTX, which is due to reach the UK in the middle of next year under a marketing campaign led by the slogan ‘Fun without regret’. It will be the first model to use the new GTX tag, which will sit alongside the long-running GTI badge in VW’s performance line-up. The hot crossover-style SUV forgoes the single-motor rear-wheel-drive layout of standard ID models already on sale for a dual-motor four-wheel-drive set-up that will yield a combined 302bhp and 339lb ft. That’s sufficient for 0-62mph in 6.2sec and a 112mph top speed together with a range of up to 286 miles on a standard 82kWh battery. Around the same time as the ID 4 GTX arrives in the UK, VW will also launch its third dedicated electric model, the ID 5. Based heavily on the ID 4 – alongside which it will initially be produced at VW’s Zwickau factory before moving to a permanent production home at the current Passat facility in Emden – it takes the coupé-like SUV styling of the earlier ID Crozz Coupé concept into production, with a heavily curved roofline and a liftback-style tailgate featuring an integrated spoiler element. The electric drivetrain line-up for the ID 5 has yet to be revealed, although it is likely to mirror the ID 4’s. VW insiders say the ID 5 range will include a choice of single-motor rear drive and dual-motor four-wheel drive, including the top-of-the-line 302bhp performance set-up used in the headlining ID 5 GTX model. The ID 3 will also benefit from ongoing developments next year, including an increase in charging power. Buyers will be offered the choice of a 130kW system by mid-2021 and a 170kW system by the end of next year, up from the current maximum of 100kW. The 170kW set-up is claimed to deliver 121 miles of range in 10 minutes using a DC charger. VW is also promising a moderate increase in range for all ID 3 models through the end of next year. The Pro S is set to offer up to an extra 24 miles from its 77kWh battery, to 360 miles, due in part to software improvements and advances in thermal management and cell efficiency.

Google applications including YouTube, email and Docs have suffered a rare service outage, with users unable to access many of the company's services. The outage started shortly before noon UK time, lasting more than half an hour before services were restored. Users around the world reported problems with Gmail, Google Drive, the Android Play Store, Maps and more. Google's search engine, however, remained unaffected by the problems affecting its other services. Google said the problem hit its authentication system, which is used for logging in and similar functions, and lasted about 45 minutes. Users were still able to access the websites' landing pages in "incognito mode", which does not store a log of the users' browsing activity. The outage also affected Google-connected smart devices such as Home speakers - leading some users to complain on social media of being unable to switch off some lights in their homes. It also had a knock-on effect on other apps, with players of the smartphone game Pokémon Go, for example, reporting being unable to log in. Despite the widespread outage, Google's service dashboard initially showed no errors - before switching to red status across all services. "We're aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a majority of users. The affected users are unable to access Gmail," the statement said, with the word "Gmail" replaced by other services.
