  1. Nineteen sailors have been killed and 15 others injured in an accident involving Iranian naval vessels in the Gulf of Oman, Iran's navy has said. Iranian media reported that the support ship Konarak was hit by a new anti-ship missile being tested by the frigate Jamaran during an exercise on Sunday. The Konarak had been putting targets out in the water and remained too close to one, according to the reports. The navy said the ship was towed ashore and that an investigation had begun. The incident took place near the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway through which about a fifth of the world's oil passes. "On Sunday evening... during naval exercises performed by a number of the naval force's vessels in the waters of Jask and Chabahar, an accident happened involving the Konarak light support ship vessel, causing the martyrdom of a number of brave members of the naval forces," the navy said in a statement on Monday. The statement added that the Konarak had been taken to a port for "technical inspection", but it made no reference to the circumstances of the accident.
  2. Some major airlines are now requiring passengers to wear face mask on flights to limit the spread of viruses. Many big US airlines are bringing in new health and safety policies for both passengers and cabin crew this week. Other carriers around the world are also making mask wearing mandatory for when they restart flights. While around 90% of international flights have been cancelled, airlines hope to gradually resume air travel starting this month. From Monday, US carrier Delta said it requires passengers to wear a mask or other face covering in the check-in area, premium lounges, boarding gate areas and onboard planes for the whole flight. American Airlines and United have also said that they will start requiring masks for passengers, along with cabin crew. The carriers say these are temporary measures as they slowly resume flights.
  3. Kim Jong-un has appeared in public for the first time in 20 days, North Korean state media says. KCNA news agency reports that the North Korean leader cut the ribbon at the opening of a fertiliser factory. It adds that people at the factory "broke into thunderous cheers of hurrah" when he appeared on Friday. The reported appearance - his first since an event on state media on 12 April - comes amid global speculation over his health. The latest reports from North Korean media could not be independently confirmed. State media later released images that it said showed Mr Kim cutting a ribbon outside a factory. Asked about Mr Kim's reported reappearance, US President Donald Trump told reporters that he didn't want to comment yet.
  4. Police in Western Australia have shot dead a man after several people were stabbed at a shopping centre in the Pilbara region. Five people were injured in the attack at the South Hedland Square centre - two of them are in a serious condition. Witnesses told local media they saw a man waving "a great big knife" at shoppers and police officers, before hearing screaming and bangs. WA Premier Mark McGowan called it "a tragic and awful set of events". "He has been tasered by police, that didn't stop him. He lunged at police officers and then he was shot by police officers," the Australian Broadcasting Corporation quoted Mr McGowan as saying. Police said there was no ongoing threat to public safety and are appealing for people to come forward with any video evidence. There has been no suggestion the incident was terror-related.

  7. France is encouraging people to cycle to keep pollution levels low once lockdown restrictions end. Under the €20 million (£17m; $21.7m) scheme, everyone will be eligible for bike repairs of up to €50 at registered mechanics. The funding will also help pay for cycle training and temporary parking spaces. Nations worldwide are grappling with ways to change urban transport in light of the coronavirus. Emergency planners in London fear the Tube will not be able to cope once lockdown is lifted. A report seen by the BBC says that social distancing rules would reduce capacity to 15% of normal levels, and 12% on buses. Moreover, pollution levels have dropped worldwide, and many are seeking to keep those levels low.

  9. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds have announced the birth of their son. A spokeswoman for the PM and his partner said both mother and baby are "doing very well". It is understood the PM, who has just recovered from coronavirus, was present throughout the birth, which took place in an NHS hospital in London. "The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team," the spokeswoman added. Mr Johnson, 55, and Ms Symonds, 32, announced in March that they were expecting a baby in "early summer", and that they had become engaged at the end of last year.

  11. Airbus CEO issued a blatant assessment of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the aircraft maker. Guillaume Fury warned in a letter to the workers that the company was "bleeding liquidity at an unprecedented speed." The company announced this month that it would cut aircraft production by a third. This comes as the aviation industry is expected to shrink dramatically following the outbreak of the Covid-19. Mr. Fawry also told Airbus's 135,000 employees to prepare for possible major job cuts and warned that it was still on the line without taking immediate action. Airbus is scheduled to achieve results this week for the first quarter of the year. These numbers will be overshadowed by the epidemic that has left global airlines struggling to survive and almost completely halt aircraft delivery since closings began in March.
  12. Here are the main features, and prices, of this third generation Ford Kuga. Which will offer no less than three hybrid versions. Failing to have been able to take the wheel of this brand new, and third generation Ford Kuga, due to containment, here are the main characteristics. The family SUV market is constantly evolving and should continue to rise for several more years. An enlarged segment dominated on the French market by the national bestsellers that are the Peugeot 3008 and Citroën C5 Aircross. Mostly bought by men - 80% on average - they most often represent the main family vehicle, generally accompanied by a second vehicle. This third generation Kuga (since 2008) is the second electrified Ford model, out of a total of 14 expected. It is positioned in the middle of a range of SUVs made up of EcoSport, Puma, Mustang Mach-E and Explorer. Made in Valencia, Spain, this brand new generation, which shares its platform with the Focus, is longer (4.62 m), wider and lower than the previous one. Above all, its line is clearly less cubic, less “4 × 4”, with a front face to which we find false airs of Porsche SUV… And since family SUVs have supplanted the people carriers of yesteryear in recent years, Ford strives to offer the same qualities of interior space, modularity and functionality. With its sliding seat, this new Kuga offers rear legroom and boot space (645 liters), announced as a record by Ford. In terms of engines, this new Kuga will be available at launch in a rechargeable hybrid version, combining a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle of 164 hp and 200 Nm, associated with a synchronous electric motor of 61 hp and 230 Nm (14.4 kWh battery ), enough to give it a cumulative power of 225 hp. Its transmission being of the CVT type, controlled. Its WLTP emissions are announced at 32 g and its autonomy in all-electric at 56 km (68 km in urban cycle). A micro-hybrid version is also available, combining a 2.0 liter Diesel EcoBlue of 150 hp with an 11.5 kW electric motor, displaying 132 g. And at the end of the year will appear a "full" PHEV hybrid version of 200 hp (2.5 liter Atkinson + 88 kW electric motor), classic, non-rechargeable, which will offer the choice between 4 × 2 and 4 × 4 transmissions. Hybrid engines that offer the choice between 4 driving modes: auto, forced electric, electric "later" and forced load. Charging requires between 5 and 6 hours on a standard sector prose and 3 hours on a wall-box or a public terminal. Knowing that the optimal charge for the proper functioning of the batteries must be between 50 and 75%. Alongside these three hybrid versions, the new Kuga remains faithful to thermal engines with a 3-cylinder petrol 1.5 Ecoboost of 120 or 150 hp, and two Ecoblue diesel, 1.5 liter of 120 hp and 2.0 liters of 190 hp. Given the excellent platform of this new Kuga, its reduced weight of 80 kg, its lower center of gravity (10 mm) and its aluminum undercarriages, we are not worried about its dynamic qualities . We therefore give you an appointment for a first test, after confinement.
  13. When you have outstanding credit card debt, you’re essentially making two monthly payments. You must first pay the interest charges that have incurred on your average daily balance, and only then will the remainder of your payment apply toward your purchases. But if you transfer your credit card balances to a new card with an interest-free balance transfer offer, all of your payments apply toward reducing your balance while the promotional financing offer applies. This allows you to eliminate the interest charges while speeding up the repayment of your debt—plus, it can save you some money in the process.

  17. Belgian Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès has announced a detailed plan to gradually lift the country's coronavirus restrictions. Under new rules, all shops will be allowed to open their doors again from 11 May, with schools reopening the following week - albeit with a cap on pupil numbers in each class. But Ms Wilmès cautioned that "nothing is set in stone". More than 45,000 people have tested positive for the virus in Belgium. More than 6,900 deaths have been recorded in the nation of 11.4 million - the highest rate per capita in Europe. More than half the fatalities have been in care homes, and the number of deaths in hospitals has been falling.
  18. If you’ve been using Apple Maps in CarPlay, you’re going to find that Google Maps and Waze look rather familiar. That’s because Apple imposes a lot of restrictions on the way CarPlay apps are allowed to look, so all of the information, buttons, and options are generally laid out in the same way across all three apps. Google Maps and Waze do have their own color schemes and some other app-specific features that aren’t available in Apple Maps, but the main interface and directions are presented in the same way as Apple’s app. What you won’t find in either Google Maps or Waze is the ability to get directions via Siri, through a microphone button on your steering wheel, the Hey Siri voice command, or long-pressing the home button on the CarPlay screen. Apple limits Siri interactions to its own apps. So just like how you can’t ask Siri to play something in Spotify, you also can’t ask it to give you directions to your house in Google Maps. That’s the first big frustration with using Google Maps or Waze because once you’re driving down the road, voice control is the primary way you’re able to interact with CarPlay apps. Doing so via a steering wheel button is extremely convenient. Google has built in its own voice control system to Google Maps and Waze, but to access it, you have to tap a button on the screen before issuing your command, which means you have to take your eyes off of the road for a second or two. The way around this is to program your destination before you start driving, but that’s not always possible. Google also provides one-tap buttons to frequent locations, such as home, work, saved places, and gas stations.
