  1. Police believe two emperor tamarin monkeys - shown here in a file photo - were taken By Imogen James BBC News Two monkeys taken from Dallas Zoo in Texas have been found in an abandoned home, as police continue to search for a person of interest in the case. The incident is the latest in a series of suspicious events at the zoo, including the death of a vulture. Police were alerted on Monday that two emperor tamarin monkeys were missing. Zoo staff believe they were taken because this breed would typically stay close to home - and the monkeys were not located on zoo grounds. Dallas police said on Tuesday that they had found the monkeys in a closet of an abandoned home in Lancaster, about 16 miles (26km) from Dallas, and that they had been returned to the zoo.The police searched the home after receiving a tip, according to a statement seen by the BBC. "We are thrilled beyond belief to share that our two emperor tamarin monkeys have been found," the zoo said in a statement. Police "called our team to come secure and transport the tamarins back to the Zoo," they continued, adding that veterinarians would inspect the animals on Tuesday evening. The discovery came after Dallas police earlier on Tuesday asked the public for help identifying a man seen by cameras wandering around the zoo before the animals went missing. Police said they believed someone had cut an opening in the habitat and taken the two primates. A string of suspicious incidents began at the zoo earlier this month when a young clouded leopard escaped from its exhibit through a cut-out hole. It was later found safely. Workers also found deliberate cuts on an enclosure housing langur monkeys - though none got out. Last week, an endangered vulture was found dead in its enclosure with an "unusual wound". The bird was one of only 6,500 on the planet and its death was deemed "very suspicious". Zoo staff said losing the 35-year-old lappet-faced vulture called Pin was devastating, adding he would be "missed dearly by everyone". No arrests have been made in any of the investigations, and Dallas police have refused to say if the incidents are linked. Since the suspicious occurrences began, the zoo has added extra cameras and increased its security patrols at night. Ed Hansen, chief executive of the American Association of Zoo Keepers, said it appeared that someone "really has an issue with the Dallas Zoo", but that the zoo had an "excellent" reputation in the industry. Emperor tamarin monkeys are distinctive for their long white whiskers that resemble moustaches. It is believed they were named after Germany's last emperor, Wilhelm II, who also had a moustache. The zoo sits on 106 acres (43 hectares), housing more than 2,000 animals, and is the oldest and largest zoo in Texas. It made headlines in 2004 when a 300lb (136kg) gorilla escaped from its enclosure, injuring four people before being shot to death. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64465580
  2. New car dealerships are experiencing a change in supply and turnover. According to a study by iSeeCars, the average new car takes 54 days to sell, while new EVs take 70.6 days, and new hybrids take 49.5 days. The study analyzed 463,000 new and used car sales from March 2024 and found that the average days on the market for new cars decreased by 21.6%, while used car sales increased by 30.5%. These findings suggest that new vehicle sales are slowing down, which may be due to the impact of inflation and rising interest rates on consumers’ purchasing power. Although hybrids sell faster than electric vehicles, EV sales are growing slower due to the same variables. Moreover, used vehicle sales have increased significantly in the last two months, with cars selling twice as fast as before in just 34.2 days. This acceleration is likely due to tax returns, as the used car purchasing season heats up. Used EV sales are slightly below average at 36.4 days, similar to new EV sales. On the other hand, used hybrids sell in just 30.4 days, faster than the average used car. It is evident that buyers are attracted to vehicles that offer excellent residual value, low running costs, and long-term durability. This is evident from the fact that Toyotas make up 12 of the 20 fastest-selling new cars, out of which eight are hybrids. The top 20 list includes three luxury SUVs: the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Land Rover Range Rover, and the Cadillac Escalade. This proves the widely held belief that wealthy consumers are not letting macroeconomic worries slow them down. The Volvo XC40 Recharge is the only electric car featured in the top 20. Although EVs are currently among the slowest-selling cars, the market still favors compact and medium SUVs, even when those vehicles include motors and batteries as part of their powertrain. The top-ranked Jeep Cherokee takes more than three times the average of 54 days to sell, at 169.7 days, while all of the slowest-selling used cars take 90 days or longer to sell. However, it’s also evident there is low buyer interest as the slowest-selling EVs take between 81 to 130 days to sell despite being on the market for a few years. https://www.cbtnews.com/iseecars-reveals-new-car-sales-are-slowing-down-while-used-car-sales-increase/
  3. In docuseries Burden of Proof, Stephen Pandos searches for answers as to how his sister Jennifer disappeared in 1987 – including from his parentsStephen Pandos was a freshman in college when, in February 1987, his 15-year-old sister, Jennifer, went missing from their family home in Williamsburg, Virginia. The details of her disappearance were hazy. Stephen’s mother, Margie Pandos, claimed that she had grown concerned one morning when she didn’t hear Jennifer taking a shower and found her door locked. Possibly she ran away. But on her bed, Margie claimed to find a strange note messily scrawled in large, block handwriting, in which an unknown third party claimed Jennifer was “having some problems and needs time away”. The note allegedly transcribed Jennifer’s wishes: don’t call the police, don’t tell her friends, deposit money in her bank account. Margie and her husband, Ron, did not call the police for three days and told Jennifer’s friends she was either sick or out of the house. By the time they contacted police, the case was close to cold. Jennifer never returned home, nor were any arrests made in her disappearance. For years, Stephen was at a loss over what happened to the sister he barely knew – three and a half years apart, the two were “just naturally in different orbits”, he told the Guardian. The opening minutes of Burden of Proof, a new HBO docuseries on Stephen’s quest for truth decades after his sister’s disappearance, offer contrasting versions of Jennifer, fitting for a teenage girl barely on the cusp of adulthood. How people remembered her – funny, serious, lighthearted, troubled, open, shy – depended on who was telling the story. And as Burden of Proof examines in four hour-long episodes filmed over nearly eight years, that story shapes which details get remembered, whose discrepancies are highlighted and which doubts pull weight. https://www.theguardian.com/international
  4. At 16 I had my whole life planned out. I was a budding amateur boxer with bags of passion and talent. I was going to be a star. My dad was my coach. Our mission was to win the national youth championships, then conquer the Olympics, before turning professional and working together to capture a world title. But, in one night, this dream of ours was taken away. It was a Friday evening. Teenagers stood around the park chatting and drinking. I was taking a night off from training to ride my BMX. I remember rolling towards the grind rail, sliding down and landing well enough to earn a cheer from my mates. As I rolled around the back of the main ramp, I began to cycle hard, building up speed, but mid-jump I caught sight of something in the sky whistling its way right towards the spot where I was heading. Before I could react, a beer bottle had exploded in front of me, showering me in shards of broken glass. I hit the concrete hard and lay there bleeding. Next thing I knew, my mates were screaming obscenities from across the skate park, but louder than that was the sound of pounding footsteps. I turned just in time to see the first fist strike my face. I couldn’t tell you how many times I got hit during the six-on-one beat-down. But it was a lot. I remember thinking: “What have I done to deserve this?” and “Why isn’t anybody helping me out? Then things went from bad to worse. One lad used his knee to pin down my right arm. He splayed my hand on the ground and held it there. Then he shouted at his mate to stamp on it. His friend obliged, repeatedly. Suddenly, as if by magic, it stopped. Groups of kids from across the park had come together to form a human shield – an example of real courage and solidarity for which I’ll be forever grateful. I staggered home with the help of my friends. It wasn’t until the following morning, when I looked in the bathroom mirror, that I realised my sporting dreams were over. My face looked like one big bruise. There was massive swelling around my eyes, a deep cut on the ridge of my nose and teeth marks on my chest. What’s more, I soon learned that my right hand was permanently damaged. I was overwhelmed with despair. Dad was single-handedly raising my three brothers, two sisters and me. He dropped everything to give me the support I needed Six years later, my counsellor set up a meeting with the lad who engineered the foot stomping. He told me that cocaine had had a big part to play that night, as had jealousy and toxic masculinity. You see, the local newspaper had run a feature about me representing Buxton Amateur Boxing Club at their annual show. These lads had seen it and decided to bring me down a peg or two. Well, they succeeded. I never boxed competitively again after the incident in the park – it killed my appetite for the sport. My dad was my rock. At the time, we were living in poverty in rural Derbyshire. He was single-handedly raising my three brothers, two sisters and me. As challenging as that sounds, Dad dropped everything to give me the support I needed. Ultimately, he advised me to focus on my education. Though boxing had been my main obsession, followed closely by BMX-ing, I was also involved in theatre, having played several bit parts in school plays (usually, the small funny guy) and a couple of larger roles with Chapel Players, the local amateur dramatics club. Dad and I still loved boxing and we would often spend evenings watching reruns of old shows. I remember being absolutely in awe of Muhammad Ali: he was so funny, eccentric and theatrical. He was a performer too, so the idea of switching to the theatre never felt daunting to me – I’d still be dancing under those lights in rooms full of people, only this time nobody would be trying to punch me in the face. So, I swapped punchbags and skipping ropes for scripts and rehearsal rooms, and I relished the thrill of performing in front of a live audience. Theatre soon became my biggest passion and it has remained this way through college, university (where I graduated with a first-class honours degree in theatre studies) and into the world of work. Now, looking back on my 10 years in the arts, I wonder whether being assaulted in that park all those years ago was meant to be, because being involved in theatre has enabled me to do so much that sport couldn’t. For instance, at the core of my work as a producer and an artist, I have been helping young people from low-income backgrounds to access the arts – whether through creating work experience opportunities, mentoring, or producing the work of artists whose voices are underrepresented. I’m currently touring a stage adaptation of my debut children’s book, Alfie’s First Fight. The story revolves around a child boxer being raised by his dad, who fights for. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/may/17/a-moment-that-changed-me-a-brutal-attack-ended-my-dreams-of-being-a-boxer-but-i-found-a-new-passion
  5. Three British tourists have been confirmed dead after a fire onboard a diving boat off Egypt’s Red Sea coast, a day after they were declared missing after a frantic search by the captain and crew.Twelve other divers and 14 crew, including the captain of the Hurricane, were rescued after abandoning the ship on Sunday morning. The group had sailed out to Elphinstone reef, a famed diving spot roughly 12km offshore and 30km from the resort town of Marsa Alam.According to the tour operator Scuba Travel and Tornado Marine Fleet, which operated the diving boat, a fire broke out onboard at 8.30am local time during a diving briefing. It is with great regret that we, as the tour operator, with heavy hearts, must accept that three of our much-valued dive guests who had not participated in the dive briefing, early on the morning of June 11, perished in the tragic incident,” said Pat Adamson, a spokesperson for Scuba Travel, the British company that arranged the trip.Mohamed Bendary, the secretary general of Egypt’s Red Sea governorate, stated that preliminary investigations suggested the blaze began in the boat’s engine room. Egyptian authorities said initial examinations indicated that an electrical short circuit in the engine room sparked the blaze. The Hurricane is a “liveabord” vessel, designed to accommodate tourists for days at a time. When the fire occurred, the group were reportedly at the end of a six-day stay on the boat.At the time the fire broke out 12 divers were participating in a briefing onboard, while those missing had apparently decided not to dive that morning. The severity of the fire meant that the 12 divers were immediately evacuated by boat to another craft nearby and the 14 crew members, including the captain and two dive guides, having tried to reach the missing guests, also had to abandon ship and were rescued,” said Adamson. The dive boat Hurricane is currently being towed to a port, yet to be nominated, as the vessel is still smouldering with cooling required before entry,” said Adamson.Footage of the boat off the coast of the resort town of Marsa Alam showed fire engulfing both decks of the ship as smoke billowed into the air.He added that Tornado Marine Fleet had maintained a strong safety record with Scuba UK. Tornado Marine Fleet, a company based in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh offering trips onboard liveabord vessels, previously confirmed the incident and ongoing investigations, but did not respond when contacted concerning the deaths onboard the Hurricane or to discuss details of the vessel’s safety record.According to the website of Tornado Marine Fleet, the 188-ft Hurricane was built in 2004. The vessel included twin diesel engines as well as onboard whirlpool and entertainment systems, plus what the company described as a “firefighting and alarm system”.In recent posts on Facebook, the company offered last-minute spaces onboard the Hurricane for diving excursions in the Red Sea in May and June. Pictures of the interior of the boat showed luxurious cabins with wood floors and walls, a dining room and living room lined with velvet banquettes and an onboard chef.bdulrahman Alsarheed, a Kuwaiti tourist who witnessed the blaze, said the fire had spread fast, engulfing the entire boat within minutes.AImages showed some of the passengers jumping from the ship to reach a smaller boat alongside it to escape the blaze. There was light smoke, and in one or two minutes the smoke became white and heavy, and then it turned black, and the fire broke out so fast because it was windy in the morning,” Alsarheed said. The 12 rescued divers were taken to Marsa Shagra, a village north of Marsa Alam, where they received medical attention and gave statements to police, as local authorities pledged to investigate the cause of the fire.Scuba UK said the group was receiving consular assistance to return to the UK, after all of their personal possessions including passports were destroyed in the fire onboard the Hurricane.A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office said: “We are in contact with local authorities following an incident aboard a dive boat near Marsa Alam, and are supporting British nationals involved.”Egypt’s Red Sea resorts are home to some of the country’s most renowned beach destinations and are po[CENSORED]r with holidaymakers. The area has cemented its reputation as a dive destination, with easy access to coral reefs from shores and dive sites with diverse marine life. Not everyone can afford to pay for news right now. 6. Motorola didn't confirm which Edge series model will feature the new chipset Photo Credit: Motorola Motorola has announced an event for April 16 to reveal the Edge 50 family. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, Edge 50 Fusion, and Edge 50 Pro are expected to go official in global markets at the event. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro with Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC was launched in India earlier this month. The Chinese electronics brand has now shared a teaser to offer hints about the chipset on the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra without confirming the moniker of the phone. The upcoming handset is expected to come with upgrades over the Motorola Edge 30 ultra. The company has officially teased the Motorola Edge 50 series via an X post. As per the post, Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC will power an Edge series handset. While Motorola didn't reveal the exact moniker of the handset, it is quite clear that the Ultra variant will carry this SoC. Past leaks and a recent Geekbench benchmark listing have also indicated that the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra runs on the same Snapdragon 8 series chipset. Motorola Edge 50 Ultra surfaced on Geekbench earlier this week with an impressive single-core CPU score of 1,947 and a multi-core score of 5,149. The listing showed a high-performance core with a maximum clock speed of 3.01GHz, four cores capped at 2.80GHz and three cores capped at 2.02GHz. These CPU speeds are associated with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC. The listing suggested 12GB of RAM and Android 14 operating system on the device. As per past leaks, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra will carry a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor. The handset is said to carry a 6.7-inch OLED display with 165Hz refresh rate. Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is anticipated to be the most premium handset in the upcoming Edge 50 series. It could debut in the US with Motorola Edge+ 2024 or Edge Ultra 2024 moniker and cost around $999 (roughly Rs. 83,000). https://www.gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/motorola-edge-50-ultra-teasers-snapdragon-8s-gen-3-soc-launch-april-16-specifications-5424408
  7. Virtual cycling program Zwift is further gamifying its fitness platform by launching its first dedicated controller called the Zwift Play. It functions similarly to the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons. The Zwift Play is comprised of two separate pieces each with its own set of buttons. The left half comes with a direction pad for navigating on-screen menus and for making select turns inside the company’s virtual world. On the right half are the face buttons for selecting menu options or activating certain in-game abilities like teleporting “to Pace Groups,” among other things. At the back of both halves are a couple of paddles. Pushing them in brakes your on-screen bike while pulling them helps you steer. As for other important details, the Zwift Play “requires two Bluetooth connections”, one for each half. Battery life for both pieces is a claimed 20 hours of ride time. The overall package does come with a split-end USB cable so you can charge the two at the same time without any issue. The controller can connect to any exercise bike via silicone straps. However, the machine must sport drop handlebars and not have any sort of unique configurations. As an example, the company states the Zwift Play doesn’t work on the Garmin Tacx Neo bike since it won’t “allow proper placement due to shifter shape.”Alongside the controller, the company also launched its new Beta Zwift Play Game Experience, a virtual environment where users can test drive the device’s functionality. It features a cycling course where people can try out the rear braking paddles and the ability shortcuts on the face buttons. Availability For a limited time, you can purchase the Zwift Play controller from the company's website for $99/£99/€99. This lower price tag will stick around until the Zwift Play Game Experience leaves beta. Once it does, the price tag will go up to $149/£149/€149 moving forward. We asked Zwift when the virtual world will officially launch. A representative told us they don’t have a confirmed date yet for the release. In the meantime, the company will focus on improving exercise modes and taking user feedback on how to improve the experience. We also asked the representative if there are plans to roll out the Zwift Play to other global regions – namely Australia. They told us the company is looking into it, but currently doesn’t have plans to expand outside the US, UK, and EU. https://www.techradar.com/news/zwifts-first-controllers-turn-your-indoor-cycling-bike-into-a-video-game
  8. The Apple Vision Pro offers hardware that its newly formed rivals cannot offer, thanks to the M2 and R1 pairing. However, what companies like Meta can do with its Quest 2 and Quest Pro is improved on the software bit to increase performance, and that is exactly what has been done with the latest update. It is likely that this change was implemented in response to the capabilities of Apple’s latest AR headset. With the latest update, the Quest 2 and Quest Pro have received a 26 percent performance improvement With the v55 software, Meta promises some impressive performance gains for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro. While it cannot be confirmed if the company purposely gimped the headsets’ capabilities to push sales of successive models, it is mind-boggling how much of an impact a software update can bring to the table. To summarize, Meta claims that both headsets should see up to a 26 percent performance bump in the CPU department. As for the GPU, the blog post provides the remaining details. https://wccftech.com/meta-quest-2-and-quest-pro-cpu-gpu-improvement/
  9. Yesterday, Nintendo promised we'd get one last trailer for the anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom before the game launches in May, and today they delivered in a big way. For those who may have been slightly underwhelmed by previous Tears of the Kingdom teaser trailers or hoped Nintendo would show more of the game’s story and world, well, this trailer is for you. Check it out for yourself, In addition to a more detailed look at the new sky islands, this final The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailer shows a number of ways Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule has changed, including what looks to be some new settlements. We also get hints of what appear to be dungeon-like settings unlike anything seen in Breath of the Wild. Large environments, full of complex traps, challenges, and unique bosses. In terms of story, we see Ganon’s castle rise again, although this time we won’t be dealing with the monstrous force-of-nature that was Calamity Ganon, but rather, the more charismatic, intelligent Ganondorf as seen in games like Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. The trailer also teases Zelda’s role in the story, hinting at something "only [she] can do." Could we actually be getting playable Zelda segments? Don’t get your hopes too high for that, but who knows?will be digging details out of this trailer right up until launch (and beyond). Overall, pretty epic stuff that should dissuade anybody afraid Tears of the Kingdom is just going to be “Breath of the Wild DLC.” Haven’t been keeping up with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? "In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. 16. Monique Olivier had previously said her role was to "reassure" victims By Steve Knibbs, Dickon Hooper & Dawn Limbu BBC News, Paris The ex-wife of a serial killer has apologised over the death of a British student who was kidnapped and murdered. Joanna Parrish from Gloucestershire was 20 when she was kidnapped from Auxerre in 1990. Monique Olivier, who is already serving a life sentence, is in court over her death, alongside another murder and kidnap. Olivier added that she regretted not intervening in Ms Parrish's death saying she "deserved to live". Her ex-husband Michel Fourniret, who was convicted for the murders of seven girls and young woman between 1987 and 2001, died in prison in 2021.The trauma of Ms Parrish's death has remained with her parents Ms Parrish's parents, Roger Parrish and Pauline Murrell, were not in court to hear Olivier's apology. "I understand that it was a monstrosity what we did. It's unforgiveable. If I had a daughter, I wouldn't forgive," she said at the Cour d'Assise in Paris on Tuesday. "It is horrible. She was beautiful. I regret it. She didn't deserve that. I am sorry" Giving evidence at the trial on Monday, Mr Parrish said Ms Parrish was a "kind, conscientious and exceptional" woman whose life was "cruelly ended by a narcissistic psychopath and her female partner". He said the pain has never subsidized in the 33 years that have passed. The president of the court, Didier Safar said Monique Olivier has lied and contradicted herself, and has not always answered the numerous questions put to her.Joanna Parrish's body was found in the Yonne River in France in 1990 The crimes date back to 1988 in the case of Marie-Angele Domece, who disappeared aged 18 from Auxerre, and 1990 for Miss Parrish. The third charge facing Olivier is for complicity in the 2003 disappearance of nine-year-old Estelle Mouzin, whose body has never been found. Fourniret, who was jailed for life in 2008, confessed to the crimes in relation to Ms Parish and Ms Domece in 2018, but died before he could face justice. Olivier had previously told the court her role was to reassure the victims. She said she did not know where the bodies of Ms Domece and Ms Mouzin are. When shown a photo of Ms Domece at the court hearing, she said: "She should never have disappeared."Eric Mouzin, father of Estelle Mouzin, said it was a tough hearing Estelle Mouzin's father was present at the court. He said Tuesday's hearing had been "tough". "We are in a system where it's as if we don't speak about real people," he said, referring to the court proceedings. "Didier Seban tried to bring Olivier back to her contact with people - by showing her their faces when they were alive, particularly Jo. "And then to confront her with the pictures after the discovery of her body. We saw Olivier's reaction - she pushed it away."Ms Parrish posted an advert in a newspaper offering English lessons Fourniret had met Ms Parrish through a newspaper advert where she was offering English lessons. Olivier said he had "stalked" her outside the school that she had been working in as part of her university degree course. She said that Fourniret had planned to imprison her for several days before killing her. Olivier said Ms Parrish may have been taken to her and Fourniret's house close by in St Cyr Les Colons.Michel Fourniret and Monique Olivier lived in St Cyr Les Colons When asked about what had been said in court earlier, Didier Seban, the Parrish family lawyer, said: "it's painful for the families [and the] justice system hasn't put [time] into these cases." Olivier had previously said she was afraid of Fourniret and told the court that she was "never anything more than the dog." who had to "obey". She said she had "done nothing wrong" before she met Fourniret. The court previously heard that in 1987 Olivier met Fourniret whilst he was in prison for sexual violence against women. They exchanged around 200 letters and got married. Their son Selim was born in 1988. The trial is expected to continue until 15 December.. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-67623186
  17. Lithuania has become the 20th European country to completely ban fur farming, sparing around one million animals a year from miserable lives and cruel deaths on fur farms. President Gitanas Nausėda signed the fur farming bill into law today after a large majority passed the measure in the Seimas. The law sti[CENSORED]tes that the country’s remaining fur farms, around 40 mink farms and 30 chinchilla fur farms, must close by 2027. The landmark decision comes after years of advocacy and public pressure from animal welfare organisations, activists, and concerned citizens, led by Fur Free Alliance member Tušti Narvai. Gabriele Vaitkevičiūtė, campaign leader of Tušti Narvai, said: “In the past year alone, citizens have written nearly 27,000 letters to decision-makers to demand an end to the brutal confinement and killing of animals for fur. Today, Lithuania has made history and put yet another nail in the coffin of the cruel fur industry. This ban is a clear statement to the rest of the world that the needless abuse of animals in the name of decorations will no longer be tolerated” The fur industry has long been condemned for its inhumane treatment of animals. In recent years, including 2023, numerous investigations by Tušti Narvai into the shocking cage conditions and cruel killing practices on fur farms in the country sparked international outrage. Last week, the Fur Free Alliance and its member organisations wrote to the Lithuanian president calling for a firm commitment to shut down fur farms as soon as possible. Joh Vinding, chair of the Fur Free Alliance, says: “Lithuania’s ban on fur farming is an immense achievement, and we commend their commitment to ending the needless suffering of animals for fur fashion. This victory sends a powerful message that fur farming is not only cruel but also outdated and incompatible with modern ethical standards. We call on the remaining fur-producing countries, as well as the European Union, to follow Lithuania and commit to ending this terrible practice in their own countries too.” While the momentum of the fur-free campaign sweeps across Europe, Lithuania’s decision marks a historic milestone as the 20th European nation to ban fur farming, joining fellow Baltic nations Latvia and Estonia, as well as other like-minded countries such Norway, Austria, Italy, France and the United Kingdom. British Columbia in Canada has also banned mink farming. At this moment, moves to end fur farming are underway in Sweden, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria. Pressure is also mounting on decision makers at EU-level to ban the fur trade, after the Fur Free Europe Citizens’ Initiative collected more than 1.5 million signatures earlier this year calling for an EU-wide fur ban. https://respectforanimals.org/victory-lithuania-bans-fur-farming/
