  2. TeamViewer may be best known for its remote desktop software but the company also has its own video conferencing solution which can be used to stay in touch with co-workers while working from home. Up until now, TeamViewer Meeting (previously known as Blizz) was a standalone application that could be used to make unlimited end-to-end encrypted video calls across mobile and desktop. In order to make its video conferencing software more accessible though, the company has integrated TeamViewer Meeting directly into TeamViewer so that users can now start one-click meetings without having to install additional software. We've picked out the best video conferencing software around These are the best online collaboration tools on the market Also check out our roundup of the best remote desktop software Director of product management at TeamViewer Christoph Schneider provided further insight in a press release on the company's decision to bring video conferencing to its remote desktop software, saying: "Due to the global need of reliable, secure digital communication and online meeting capabilities, we have committed to provide every TeamViewer user with easy-to-use meeting functionality right in their TeamViewer client. There is increasing demand for end-to-end encrypted video conferencing and screen sharing solutions following the strict data protection and privacy regulation within the European Union." Video conferencing in TeamViewer Integrated meetings in the TeamViewer client are fully compatible with the company's standalone TeamViewer Meeting product so customers can use whichever software better suits their needs. End-to-end encrypted VoIP meetings can also be conducted on mobile by using the TeamViewer Meeting app for iOS and Android. TeamViewer's video conferencing solution also allows users to start instant meetings right from their contact list and these meetings support HD-quality video as well as 4K multi-monitor screen sharing. Users can even record meetings and lock them with passwords for additional privacy and security. Subscribers to TeamViewer's paid plans also get access to dial-in numbers which can be used to join a meeting by phone. However, this feature can be disabled by a meeting host to prevent anyone from accidentally dialing in. The new TeamViewer Meeting experience can be accessed from the existing TeamViewer client now. It's worth noting that participants will be limited to five for non-paying users while commercial customers will be able to host meetings with up to ten participants. However, optional packages allow users to extend the size of their meetings to up to 50, 100 or 300 participants.
  3. Fans of the classic PlayStation 2 should enjoy this Raspberry Pi project created by a maker known online as Farizno. Affectionately dubbed the PiStation 2, this project is exactly what it sounds like — a PS2 Raspberry Pi crossover. Inside this PlayStation 2 (not the slimline edition) is a Raspberry Pi 4 with a 1TB SSD configured to emulate tons of retro gaming classics and more. Because a Pi is used as the main board, any USB or Bluetooth controller will work—this includes both PlayStation and Xbox controllers. The Pi is wired to the actual PS2 buttons so, for example, the power button will safely shutdown the Raspberry Pi. The eject button is wired to control an LED strip. A 3D printed piece was used to help mount the Raspberry Pi ports to the back of the PS2. It even uses a custom fan that operates in accordance to CPU temperature. The rig is also designed to use a custom GUI with multiple OS options like Kodi and Emulation Station. If you want to read more about this project, check out the Instructables project page for complete steps. Also visit our list of Best Raspberry Pi Projects for more cool creations from the maker community.
  4. Although its Ford Fusion American cousin was discontinued after the 2020 model year, the Mondeo is still available in global markets. However, few markets are immune to the allure of a crossover, and the Blue Oval is reportedly replacing its long-running family car with a lineup of high-riding wagons, CUVs, and hatchbacks. We also think a crossover coupe will be in the mix, and it might look like this Mondeo Evos rendering. If you remember, the Evos name originally showed up on an avant-garde concept coupe that previewed the styling of the current Mondeo/Fusion and Mustang. Then, the company filed for the “Mondeo Evos” trademark in 2019. As such, we think Ford will likely ensure that anything with an Evos badge represents its best foot forward in terms of trendy styling – enter the crossover coupe. Using styling elements betrayed in a recent leak of the next-generation Fusion Active, Spanish-language website Motor.es cobbled together a pretty attractive imagining of a 2022 Ford Mondeo Evos. Gallery: Ford Evos concept debuts in Frankfurt The front end very clearly takes inspiration from that aforementioned leak, with an octagonal grille shape containing a geometric mesh texture. A thin chrome mustache runs the width of the front end between two narrow headlamps, and a shapely hood and fenders seem to draw inspiration from the Mustang Mach-E EV. In fact, most of the rendering’s body shell seems taken directly from Ford’s new electric crossover, although the theoretical Evos uses mechanical door handles instead of electric door releases. If and when the Ford Mondeo Evos and its American Fusion equivalent arrive on the market, expect an engine lineup that borrows liberally from current Blue Oval products. In the US, that means a standard 1.5-liter EcoBoost inline-three and eight-speed automatic transmission, producing a reasonable 180 horsepower (135 kilowatts). A 2.0-liter turbo four would likely be optional, putting 250 ponies (186 kW) down. Hybrid, plug-in, and even fully electric powertrains are also expected. All-wheel drive will likely be optional on most models and standard on some top trims. In addition to a swoopy Evos coupe, the next-generation midsize Ford family will include a high-riding, Subaru Outback–rivaling station wagon called the Mondeo Active (Fusion Active on our shores). There’s also a “Stormtrak” variant coming as well if recent trademark filings are to be believed – jury’s out on what that one might be, but it might be less of a tall wagon and more of a traditional crossover, possibly replacing the midsize Edge.
  5. There’s a rich vein of new content on the way for Deep Rock Galactic, the co-op game about being a disturbingly expendable dwarf miner. Update 33 adds two new biomes, new missions to complete in them, and new enemies who will make your job harder than it already is. Let’s dig in, shall we? The new biomes are the Azure Weald and the Hollow Bough. In the Azure Weald, you’ll be treated to a dazzling world full of bioluminescent neon, po[CENSORED]ted with the new Mactera Tri-Jaws and Mactera Brundles, which will attempt to eat your face (as well as your beard). The Hollow Bough is a more garden themed area, gloomy and full of twisted, thorny vines. Here you’re meet Deeptora Bough Wasps, which do unpleasant wasp things like swarming. There are also the irritable Stabber Vines, and you’ll just have to figure out how they got their name on your own. Update 33 also brings with it some overhauls to several of Deep Rock Galactic’s core mission types. In Elimination tasks, you’ll be up against two new variants of the Dreadnought – there’s the Dreadnought Hiveguard and the twin Dreadnoughts, Arbalest and Lacerator. Again, you’ll work out how these guys got their names pretty quickly, we reckon. In Salvage, you’ve got a new tool at your disposal – when you approach the broken M.U.L.E., you’ll be able to download the locations of its missing legs to your terrain scanner. That’ll make locating the things quite a bit simpler. The devs have also built in the ability to connect fuel cells to drop pods, using the fuel line system. For Point Extraction, there’s a brand-new Minehead machine model to ogle, and it now fits in with some of the new kit introduced in the last update. All this new stuff arrives February 4, which is when Ghost Ship Games and Coffee Stain have set the Update 33 release date. If you haven’t played Deep Rock Galactic yet, it’s available on Steam and on Xbox Game Pass for PC.

  12. ViewSonic has announced a full stable of new gaming monitors as part of CES 2021 this week. The lineup covers a range of resolutions and sizes, as well as some of the hottest new tech to hit gaming screens this year: HDMI 2.1 and Nvidia’s Reflex latency analyzer. If you’re into display trends, one absent from the lineup is OLED. But, as ViewSonic product marketing specialist Ray Hedrick told us during a special Tom’s Hardware livestream for CES 2021, there are reasons for that. First, let’s talk about what ViewSonic does have. The vendor announced five monitors that will strive to make our Best Gaming Monitors list. They appeal to a variety of preferences from 24- 32 inches and 1080p resolution up to 4K. The brand shared release time frames but noted it wasn’t ready to share prices yet. ViewSonic CES 2021 Gaming Monitor Specs ViewSonic is one of several brands to debut an HDMI 2.1 monitor at CES this year, which allows the screens to hit up to a 120 Hz refresh rate compression-free with 4K content. That’s a stark upgrade from the 60 Hz limitation HDMI 2.0 had. Of course, to compete with the best 4K gaming monitors, it helps to hit 144 Hz, and ViewSonic gets there via DisplayPort on the Elite XG320U, (which has HDMI 2.1), and Elite XG321UG, (which is still on HDMI 2.0). Notably, all the gaming monitors announced are IPS. None are OLED, and that’s despite ViewSonic showing off a 55-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor prototype at CES 2020. “Actually we looked at a 55-inch [OLED] that we determined not to bring to market because we actually thought that the TV side and what they were bringing on TV in terms of G-Sync support and whatnot might actually make that a harder product to sell,” ViewSonic’s Hedrick told us during our livestream today. Although Hedrick admitted that there are advantages to OLED, such as great HDR due to virtually infinite contrast and good response times, burn-in is still a concern when you think of using OLED for a daily PC monitor. “If you’re using [OLED] as a computer monitor everyday, you’re gonna have your desktop on there for several hours a day, and that’s always going to be a problem for OLED,” Hedrick said. “And you can pixel shift quite a bit, but you’re gonna end up with issues with burn-in eventually.” Hedrick also pointed to obstacles in achieving peak brightness levels across the entire screen, rather than just 10% of the panel. “I think OLEDs are really promising, but I think the technology needs to advance a little bit more to make it better for something that’s gonna sit on your desk, and stay on all day and just show the same image over and over,” Hedrick said. And of course, there’s price. For one, suppliers aren’t really desk-sized OLED panels. And regardless of size, there’s a premium shoppers would have to pay for an OLED gaming monitor. Advertisement “If I have a 27” display I have to convince someone to spend more than $1,000 on it because of the display technology, it might be a much harder ask,” Hedrick pointed out.
  13. Google has announced that it has added new tools to Google Meet that will make it easier for users experiencing issues while video conferencing to troubleshoot common problems. With more employees working from home than ever before, video conferencing software has seen a huge uptick in usage. However, connection and other problems in video calls can decrease productivity for remote teams working from home. For this reason, Google has added a new “Troubleshooting and Help” option to Meet's three-dot menu just above settings. Troubleshooting in Meet When a user clicks on the Troubleshooting and Help option in Meet during a video call, they will see information on both the quality of their internet connection as well as the current load on their system along with tips telling them how they can improve their video conferencing experience. In a post on the Google Workspace blog, Google explained how Meet tries to deal with users that are overtaxing their systems or have poor network performance during a video call, saying: “Meet shares processing power and network connections with all other applications and browser tabs running on a computer. When the system is overusing its processing power or suffering from a bad network connection, Meet will try to adjust and maintain performance while consuming less resources. Some of those adjustments are less visible, but if resource shortages are severe or persistent, users may notice blurry video, stuttering audio, or other issues.” Google Meet's Troubleshooting and Help option is available by default for all Meet users and the new feature has already begun rolling out.
  14. This year Chrysler released the 2021 Pacifica Pinnacle edition. Essentially a luxed-up version of the brand's successful minivan, the Pacifica Pinnacle has Nappa leather seats, second-row captain's chair pillows, and Chrysler's new Ultra center console, which offers more than 13.6 liters of storage room. Although the Pacifica Pinnacle starts at a relatively steep $53,990, this month you might be able to snag one at a discount. According to a report from CarsDirect, Chrysler is already offering deals as rich as $5,000 or a combination of zero percent APR plus a cash bonus on its most luxurious Pacifica minivan. The deal itself consists of either a $2,000 rebate or zero-percent financing for 60 months, plus a $3,000 bonus. The cash-only savings equate to about a nine percent discount off of the base price, meaning, you could theoretically take home Chrylser's nicest minivan for $48,990.That's about the same price as a standard Pacifica Limited ($48,390), and both of those trims come with all-wheel drive out of the box. But there are other Pacifica options if you don't want to spend nearly $50,000 on a minivan, regardless of how nice it is. The base Pacifica Touring with front-wheel drive starts at $35,045 while the Touring L costs $38,145 with the same front-wheel-drive configuration. All-wheel drive adds $3,000 to the asking price of both of those models. And if you want the front-drive-only Pacifica Hybrid, that model starts at $39,995 for 2021. CarsDirect says this deal on the Pacifica Pinnacle runs until February 1, 2021. So if you want to pick up the most luxurious Chrysler van at a discount, now is the time to do it. 15. Yesterday marked the end of an era for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. The action-adventure game’s online servers shut down January 12, and for many games, that’s the end of the line – once the servers are off, there’s no more game. That’s not the case with Shadow of Mordor, however: thanks to a final update, you’ll be able to continue playing, even earning achievements tied to the game’s multiplayer features. In a brief update on the official site, WB Games explains that “certain features” of Shadow of Mordor are no longer available as of January 12 – those will be features like the Nemesis Forge, which allowed you to port your Shadow of Mordor nemesis over to the sequel, Middle-earth: Shadow of War. You won’t be able to pick up Vendetta missions any more, and the leaderboards are “no longer connected to other users” (which kind of removes the point of having leaderboards). However, thanks to Shadow of Mordor’s final update, you’ll still be able to hunt achievements – even the ones tied specifically to those online features. Repaid in Blood, which requires you to finish one Vendetta mission, can still be unlocked, and so can The Hunt is My Mistress and Lord of the Ring, which were originally dependent on leaderboard scores. The WBPlay platform has been deactivated for Shadow of Mordor, but fortunately, you’ll be automatically awarded the Orc Hunter and Gravewalker Epic Runes next time you load the game. In a time when more games are leaning heavily into online service features, it’s genuinely nice to see a game sunset that element without shutting itself down completely – allowing players who have yet to stride through Mordor as Talion to still have adventures to look forward to.
