VOTE: Boca or River, who gets to the Superclásico better? This Sunday, from 2 pm at the Bombonera, the Xeneize and the Millonario will collide in a new edition of the classic. Review the news of each one and participate in the survey. oca and River will face each other this Sunday, from 2 pm in the Bombonera, in a new edition of the Superclásico corresponding to date 7 of the League Cup. Neither of them is the leader in their areas in the competition and they need a victory to settle in, but both are going through different realities. Participate in the survey and choose which team comes best to the game. How Boca gets to the Superclásico against River Xeneize gets the classic in the middle of the Copa Libertadores semifinal series against Palmeiras. After having tied without goals in the first leg at home, next Thursday they will visit Verdao and the spotlights are on there. That is why even coach Jorge Almirón could stop an eleven with a majority of substitutes against Núñez's team. In any case, Boca cannot be neglected in the League Cup, in which after a bad start it finished ninth with only 7 points, out of the qualifying positions for the next phase. They have three defeats, two wins and a draw and although everyone is focused on what will happen at the Allianz Parque next week, they want to do a good job against their longtime rival and get a result that keeps them in the fight for qualify. For its part, and a no small detail, is that in the last Superclásico played in May of this year by the League that River won at the Monumental, Xeneize suffered a 1-0 defeat in one of the first games of the It was Almirón after a penalty goal on the hour mark by Miguel Borja and now they will seek revenge to give joy to the fans. https://www.tycsports.com/river-plate/boca-vs-river-quien-llega-mejor-superclasico-id538516.html

Blind date: ‘Did we go on somewhere? No, he had to go to a party – that he was texting about during the date’ Blind date goes to Paris, where Kiana, 29, a content creator, meets Gabriel, 27, who works for a startup Kiana on Gabriel What were you hoping for? Maybe a little flirt, but if not just a good conversation and someone not crazy. First impressions? Very Parisian looking – handsome, slim, with a laid-back style – what the Emily in Paris crowd would go crazy for. Lots of good eye contact. What did you talk about? Our families, money, success, work, relationships, French culture v American. He would always ping the question back to me, which I liked because it showed he was engaged. Most awkward moment? When he started talking about how he usually goes for blondes and if he ends up with a non-blonde he’ll know it’s really love. Good table manners? Yes, but less phone at the table on a date. It’s one of my pet peeves. Best thing about Gabriel? He is grounded and comfortable in who he is and what he wants. He values genuine connection and wants a simple family lifestyle, which feels rare in a city like Paris. Would you introduce Gabriel to your friends? Only the blond ones. Describe Gabriel in three words. Kind, authentic, calm. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/sep/30/blind-date-kiana-gabriel

Sudan conflict: Living in Cairo, longing for Omdurman BBC Arabic reporter Mohamed Osman has returned to his home country, Sudan, for the first time since he was forced to flee after war broke out in April, and reflects on how the country has changed. After longing for home for five months, even the hot, humid air of the coastal city of Port Sudan felt refreshing on my face. I was finally home - not a foreigner or a refugee in another country, in this case Egypt - a nation with which we, Sudanese, have strong ties. Most people from the two countries speak the same language, eat the same food, belong to the same faith - and even share the River Nile. But it is not home. An elderly woman, who was on the same flight as me, was far more emotional, crying with joy when we stepped on to Sudanese soil, as she recalled how she went to Egypt for medical treatment - and got stuck there once Sudan plunged into a civil war in April. The conflict was triggered by a dispute between its two powerful generals - military ruler Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Burhan and his deputy-turned rival, Mohamed Dagalo, who is better known as Hemedti. I had come for a brief visit to Port Sudan, as my hometown, Omdurman, is still wrecked by war. My heart ached that I could not return to it. Omdurman is a hotbed of violence, claiming the lives of many innocent people, including a close friend who was hit by stray bullets in his home as fighting raged between government troops and Gen Dagalo's Rapid Support Forces (RSF). As for the woman who was with me on the plane, she had come back for good, as her home town - in the state of Gezira - is peaceful, at least for now. We had both caught the two-hour flight from Egypt's capital Cairo to Port Sudan. It was the first passenger plane to fly into Sudan since war broke out. Port Sudan's airport is the only one that has opened. The rest remain shut - including the main international airport in Khartoum, as the capital city - like Omdurman across the River Nile - is hit by air strikes, gun-battles and artillery fire every day. There are now daily flights to Port Sudan - all fully booked, mostly with elderly people, returning to small towns and villages that have not been scarred by battles. Many people seized the opportunity to return to Sudan after air flights resumed Young and poorer Sudanese are also returning in the handful of buses that leave Egypt each day. Sometimes, they spend three days on the road to reach their homes, as Sudan is a vast country, and does not have the best of roads. They found life in Egypt tough, as there are no UN-run refugee camps to provide them with shelter and food - unlike Chad, which hosts the highest number of Sudanese refugees, about 420,000, while Egypt has about 320,000, according to official statistics. I spent about two weeks in Port Sudan, which has turned into the alternative capital of Sudan, with the war forcing Gen Burhan to relocate to the city as the RSF controls large parts of Khartoum, including key government buildings. He had been besieged in the military headquarters in Khartoum until August, when he managed to leave. The RSF has since been carrying out a major assault to take control of the building. The fear is that Sudan could end up with two rival governments - one set up by Gen Dagalo in Khartoum, and another by Gen Burhan in Port Sudan. Gen Burhan's ministers - or minister designates - have also settled in Port Sudan, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking the city's authorities to grant it land on which it can build its headquarters. Many diplomatic missions and United Nations agencies have also moved to Port Sudan - a strategically important city along the shipping routes of the Red Sea. Though largely peaceful, the city was hit by fighting just over a week ago when government troops tried to remove checkpoints set up by an ethnic militia. It raised fears that the war could spread to the city, but government forces have so far kept control, manning their own checkpoints, carrying out patrols and enforcing an 23:00-06:00 curfew. There are now also power cuts of several hours every day, forcing businesses and homes to use generators that have worsened air pollution and noise levels in the coastal city, a po[CENSORED]r holiday destination until war broke out. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-66942430

Kenya's police, who have faced criticism at home, will be tested on unfamiliar ground in Haiti Kenya has pledged to lead a multinational security force in Haiti in response to a plea from the Caribbean nation's prime minister for help restoring order. Haiti has suffered from gang violence for decades but the current wave of brutality escalated after the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. Gangs have taken control of large parts of the country, waging terror on residents and killing hundreds. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said that a "robust use of force" is needed to disarm the gangs and restore order. What has Kenya offered to do? Kenya has said it would send 1,000 police officers to Haiti. When this was first proposed in July, Kenyan officials said the officers would guard government buildings and infrastructure, but that plan changed after Kenya sent a fact-finding mission the following month. The country now wants to deploy an intervention force that will neutralise the armed gangs, protect civilians and bring about peace, security and order. Foreign Minister Alfred Mutua told the BBC that his country would also like to help Haiti rebuild vital infrastructure and establish a stable democratic government. No other country has yet publicly pledged to add to the 1,000 Kenyans but the minister said that Spain, Senegal, Chile, Jamaica, The Bahamas and Antigua and Barbuda were also likely to deploy security personnel. No-one can be deployed until the UN Security Council gives the go-ahead, but Mr Mutua said he expected the force to be in place by the beginning of next year. What will the Kenyan police find in Haiti? Haiti is experiencing a multi-faceted security and humanitarian crisis that Mr Guterres called "a living nightmare". Swathes of the mountain-cradled coastal capital Port-au-Prince - some estimates say 80% - are either controlled or regularly terrorised by heavily armed gangs. Inside the capital taken hostage by brutal gangs These gangs, with names in Haitian creole such as "Kraze Barye" (Barrier-Crusher) and "Gran Grif" (Big Claw), have over the last two years been robbing, looting, extorting, kidnapping, raping and killing. Armed with automatic weapons smuggled in mostly from the US, the gang members often out-gun the local police, sometimes burning their vehicles and stations. They control, or regularly raid, the main routes in and out of the capital. Community groups have been handing out machetes to residents of Port-au-Prince Similar lawlessness plagues large areas of west and central Haiti, where roving "bandits", as locals call the gang members, invade and burn villages and towns. The gangs have caused chaos and disrupted public services and the work of aid agencies, worsening poverty and health problems in a nation that was already the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-66946156

Iquique Prosecutor requests an arrest warrant against “Niño” Guerrero, leader of the Aragua Train The investigation by the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Iquique and Tarapacá against the Aragua Train has already accumulated 40 detainees, including the “place bosses” of different cities in the country, who received instructions directly from the Tocorón prison, where it was “ Héctor” Niño Guerrero, whose whereabouts today are unknown. In the midst of uncertainty about the whereabouts of the founder and maximum leader of the Aragua Train, Héctor “Niño” Guerrero, the Tarapacá Regional Prosecutor's Office requested this morning from the Pozo Almonte Guarantee Court an arrest warrant against him, which was accepted based on the arguments presented in the presentation of the prosecution body, which alluded to its responsibility in a series of crimes committed in Chile by the subjects under its command, which include homicides, robberies, kidnappings and human trafficking (among others). . In this way, Chile became the first country in South America to issue an arrest warrant against “Niño” Guerrero, who is a fugitive from justice in Venezuela, with the aim of charging him with criminal charges in the event that he is arrested. This was reported by Regional Prosecutor Raúl Arancibia, who has been carrying out the investigation against the Aragua Train throughout the country since 2021. “The investigation carried out during these two years with our Criminal Analysis Unit and Investigative Focus together with different brigades of the Investigative Police allows us to affirm that Héctor Guerrero Flores, top boss of the criminal organization Tren de Aragua, was aware of the operations criminal activities carried out by the cells of this organization and maintained direct connection with local leaders who are currently detained in our country or who were operating in Chile, which allowed us to request his judicial arrest warrant and, in the event that he is detained in our country, impute participation in the crimes committed by the members of the Aragua Train in national territory.” The prosecutor added that, from 2021 to date, the TDA began its expansion in Chile by committing cross-border crimes such as migrant trafficking, to continue developing criminal activities in the rest of the country, such as robberies, extortions, threats. , kidnappings, drug trafficking, human trafficking and homicides, among others. “Our investigation, from the beginning, has focused on identifying those who make up the [CENSORED] group of the Aragua Train cells that have operated and are operating in Chile. This is how we were able to arrest several leaders of the organization in Chile, who reported criminal activities to the [CENSORED] department of the Aragua Train, represented by Héctor Guerrero, for the decision to commit crimes, the resolution of conflicts, determination of the amounts to be collected through the vaccines, as well as the destination of the profits obtained by the organization,” Arancibia explained. To date, the investigation by the Tarapacá Prosecutor's Office already has 40 members of the Aragua Train detained and serving preventive detention. Among them are: -Carlos González Vaca, alias “Estrella”, who acted as head of the international plaza, in charge of the Chilean-Bolivian border, and who reported directly to “Niño” Guerrero, whose personal escort he was. González, it must be remembered, was arrested in Quilpué, in March 2022, and is, today, the highest ranking member of the TDA imprisoned in Chile, to date. -Harold Rangel Villa, alias “Harold Petare”, who served as plaza boss in Iquique, and his partner Anyeli Ramos Villegas, daughter of the leader of the Venezuelan criminal group “La Cota 905”, better known as “El Koki”, deceased in a confrontation with Venezuelan law enforcement forces. Originally from Caracas, “La Cota 905” is a band similar to the Tren de Aragua and, like it, expanded to the south of the continent. Today it is in a real war against the TDA in Lima, which has already left more than 45 fatalities. It is worth mentioning that in the language of the Tren de Aragua, the “plaza bosses” are the people in charge of different branches of crimes and are divided territorially, as well. In this way, there are plaza bosses in cities and within those there are also plaza bosses for “women”, drugs, etc. -Edward Nava Navarro, head of the plaza in Santiago and in charge of the distribution of TDA drugs in the Metropolitan Region, who was the right arm of Larry Alvarez Núñez (alias “Larry Changa”, one of the main leaders of the TDA who was in Chile between the years 2016 and 2022 and his whereabouts are unknown). https://www.elmostrador.cl/noticias/pais/2023/09/28/fiscal-de-iquique-pide-orden-de-detencion-contra-el-nino-guerrero-lider-del-tren-de-aragua/

Chinese uber-estate uses quad motors for monstrous power and tank turn capability. Eat your heart out M3 Touring Zeekr has certainly been busy since it was formed in 2021. It has already unveiled the 001 estate, the X crossover and the 009 minivan, and now the Geely-owned EV sub-brand wants to get in on the performance estate market. It’ll do so with this - the 001 FR. And it clearly has the performance base covered. Heck, its four silicon carbide electric motors (one for each wheel) pump out a frankly terrifying 1,265bhp which results in a 0-62mph time of 2.07 seconds with the aid of an American style one-foot rollout. For reference, the tri-motor Tesla Model S Plaid claims 0-60mph in 1.99 seconds with the same rollout. Zeekr actually refers to the 001 as a shooting brake, but it’s clearly an estate and could rival the Audi RS6 if it ever made it out of its native China. Unfortunately that looks unlikely, despite the fact that standard 001 deliveries should start in Europe next month. The 001 FR uses a 100kWh battery pack and an 800V architecture that means a 10 to 80 per cent charge takes just 15 minutes. There are Brembo brakes to stop the thing and carbon fibre bodywork to both reduce weight and add downforce. And because each motor is individually controlled with fancy torque vectoring software, it can even do tank turns. https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/zeekr-001-fr-a-1265bhp-estate-thatll-do-0-62mph-207-seconds

El Xeneize will receive this jueves at 21.30 in La Bombonera, for the first leg of the semi-final, and Jorge Almirón will plant once with Valentín Barco and double 9. oca will host Palmeiras from Brazil this Friday from 9:30 p.m. in La Bombonera, for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-final, and coach Jorge Almirón will field an eleven in which he will have the presence of the double nine composed of Edinson Cavani and Miguel Merentiel. Sergio Romero will be in goal, while Luis Advíncula won the fight against Marcelo Weigandt and Lucas Blondel to move to the right side of the defense, which will also have Nicolás Figal and Marcos Rojo in the back and the Colombian Frank Fabra in the left wing. As for the midfield, Pol Fernández will be accompanied by Equi Fernández in the axis, as happened against Lanús, and thus Jorman Campuzano was left out of the starting eleven, with whom the coach had a talk at the beginning of the week but will be on the bench. On the sides there will be Cristian Medina on one side and Valentin Barco on the other, who will be in charge of generating play and assisting the attacking front. And up front? What is the big surprise: an attack made up of Uruguayans Cavani and Merentiel with the aim of giving it the scoring power that Boca is lacking in this Copa Libertadores. During the week he also tested Lucas Janson, but the ex-Vélez will wait for his place on the bench. https://www.tycsports.com/boca-juniors/formacion-boca-vs-palmeiras-por-la-copa-libertadores-id537820.html

Computers have moved on, but sons can still put dads in their place… Séamas O’Reilly The lad has started to learn coding – and he’s only five! y son has started coding. He’s only five and I reckon we may have to expand the definition of coding a little, but he has joined something called Coding Club at his school. It involves him and his classmates sitting at computers and, well, I’m not sure what happens after that, since he observes a Fight Club-style omertà when it comes to anything he does at school. He is familiar with computers and often joins me in my office – his baby sister’s bedroom – while I work on these very articles. It would be charming if I could say he’s helped much in their writing, perhaps offered a paragraph or two you’ve enjoyed – but this has not been the case. He mostly enjoys opening a new document and using the keyboard to write the longest, rudest words he can spell (‘poo-trampoline’ being a favourite) and I am left to do the grunt work myself. I read that Coding Club uses a game-based platform that enables students to ‘code sprites to move around in different environments’ in which they make ‘rockets, trucks, spiders and even Cinderella!’ It sounds impressive, so I look online to find the module and try it myself. I am presented with a cheery little penguin suspended in the void. As I move said bird, a readout displays his grid coordinates. There are dozens of toolbars and dropdown tabs which, I presume, allow you to do magnificent things with this penguin, but after about four minutes I realise I have no idea what I’m doing and return to my oppressive deadlines. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/sep/24/seamas-oreilly-my-son-has-started-computer-coding-and-he-is-only-five

Why senators are fighting about their breeches again The historical arc of the United States has brought us from the beginning, when most senators wore breeches – knee-length pants with silk stockings – to a place where about half the senators are complaining that one senator wants to wear shorts – knee-length shorts, often without socks. Stacked up against the long and growing to-do list on which the House and Senate are making very little progress, this dress code flap seems like a distraction. House Republicans are fighting among themselves and unable to pass a spending bill that would be an opening bid to deal with Democrats before government funding lapses at the end of the month. Senators still haven’t figured out how to get Sen. Tommy Tuberville, the Alabama Republican, to end his blockade of all top-level Pentagon nominations. Sen. John Fetterman, the Pennsylvania Democrat who has a preference for wearing shorts and a hoodie, noted the disconnect between the importance of matters of state and matters of style when he issued a press release offering to wear a suit if Republicans could agree to pass a spending bill. 30 years ago … Then-Sen. Barbara Mikulski, the 4-foot-11-inch Democrat from Maryland, caused a stir – some call it the “pantsuit rebellion” – in 1993 when she confirmed with the Senate parliamentarian that there was no written dress code and then dared to abandon skirts and dresses to wear pants on the Senate floor. Mikulski, now retired, told CNN’s Dana Bash about it in 2010. “I’m most comfortable wearing slacks, and well, for a woman to come on the (Senate) floor in trousers was viewed as a seismographic event,” Mikulski said. Aren’t there more important things? Now, the 6-foot-8-inch Fetterman is causing a stir by baring his legs in shorts. “Aren’t there more important things we should be talking about rather than if I dress like a slob?” Fetterman asked on MSNBC. Most Republicans and at least one Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, have complained. Sen. Susan Collins, the Republican from Maine, joked she might wear a bikini “because there’s no dress code anymore.” link https://edition.cnn.com/2023/09/20/politics/senate-dress-code-what-matters/index.html

An unexpected observation about one of the rarest turtles on Earth reveals that cold-blooded reptiles may have more complex social bonds than we thought. Paddling a canoe down a murky Belizean river at dawn, Don McKnight and Jaren Serano heard the sound of the Central American river turtle, known locally as the hicatee. A hydrophone placed in the water detected the movements of the reptiles, which had sonic transmitters attached to their shells. The results surprised them: the turtles swam together through the river and, in some cases, they did not separate themselves even a meter from their peers. "It was like following a group of whales," says McKnight, an ecologist at LaTrobe University in Australia and the Turtle Ecology Laboratory in Belize. These social turtles could dramatically change how we think of supposedly solitary animals, he says. It was previously thought that turtles gathered together when searching for the same resource, such as a sunny rock, but they generally did not interact with each other. In the recent research, however, the turtles seemed to be looking for company. "It was very nice to see," says Serano, a master's student in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida (United States). What's more, the scientists' study, published this week in the journal Animal Behavior, may help conservationists protect this critically endangered species, which has declined throughout its range of Belize, Mexico and Guatemala. There are no solid po[CENSORED]tion estimates for this highly poached reptile, but its number could be as low as 10,000. Hicatees are often sold on the black market for their meat, considered a delicacy in Central America. "Belize remains the last bastion of the species, although if poaching continues for meat and eggs beyond domestic consumption, [it could become extinct] within the next 30 years," says Venetia S. Briggs-Gonzalez, an ecologist specializing in wildlife from the University of Florida that is not involved in the research. link https://www.nationalgeographic.es/animales/2023/09/sorprendente-descubrimiento-pone-patas-arriba-conocimientos-tortugas

Injured during the match against Namibia, the French captain has undergone surgery on his cheekbone and is hoping to play again before the end of the World Cup, ideally as early as the quarter-finals scheduled for mid-October. You can share an article by clicking on the share icons at the top right of it. The total or partial reproduction of an article, without the prior written authorization of Le Monde, is strictly forbidden. For more information, see our Terms and Conditions. For all authorization requests, contact syndication@lemonde.fr. The clock is ticking. Antoine Dupont is in a race against time to hold on to his place in the French team for the Rugby World Cup quarter-final – likely to be played on October 15 against defending champions South Africa. The scrum-half underwent surgery for a maxillo-zygomatic fracture on Friday, September 22, the day after his injury during Les Bleus' emphatic 96-0 victory over Namibia and is keen to get back to work with his partners as soon as possible. "Touché mais pas coulé (...) hâte de retrouver le groupe [Hit but not lost (...) eager to get back to the group]," the Bleus captain posted on his networks, embellishing his message with an hourglass emoji. While much of France spent the weekend studying everything it could about maxillo-zygomatic fractures – it peaked as never before during the search engine frenzy over the expression on Friday – many questions remain unanswered. What exactly is Dupont suffering from? "It's an ordinary fracture suffered by an extraordinary patient," summed up Nicolas Sigaux, a maxillofacial surgeon in Lyon. This injury "is one of the pathologies we see on a daily basis in traumatology," explained the specialist. Dupont was violently struck in the face in the 45th minute of the match, during an abrupt tackle by Johan Deysel – who received a red card for his action. The Toulouse scrum-half was hit on the zygomatic bone, that of the cheekbone. "It acts a bit like the bumper of the face," said Sigaux. As is customary in such situations, a plate was placed on the injured bone to reinforce it. One big question remains: How long will the winner of the "World's Best Player" award in 2021 be away from the pitch? "If his highly experienced surgical team feels that he can resume before the theoretical six weeks of [bone] consolidation, they know what they're doing," insisted Sigaux, adding that "it all depends on the fracture." link; https://www.lemonde.fr/en/sports/article/2023/09/26/rugby-world-cup-dupont-s-injury-an-ordinary-fracture-suffered-by-an-extraordinary-patient_6140064_9.html
