The best Application Performance Management (APM) tools will provide a simple and easy way to manage all your applications. BEST APPLICATION PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT TOOLS 1. Datadog APM 2. Loupe 3. Kaseya Traverse Monitoring 4. Stackify Retrace 5. ManageEngine Applications Manager It's one thing to manage IT infrastructure and networks, but often it's the applications that require the most attention. It's not just that there can be so many of them, but also the fact they tend to update frequently which can cause problems with software conflicts and unexpected issues with hardware. This is where APM software tools can really reduce the IT management burden, by providing a single platform to manage all apps rather than having to manage and trouble-shoot each one individually. This means a single dashboard from which you can manage updates, watch for conflicts, and deal with any faults or errors that may arise because of app events, data, or resource use. It also means you can get an overall view of performance making it easy and quick to not just identify any problems with apps resolve any such issues. We've therefore looked at the best in APM tools, where the software can be used not just for monitoring but also for general optimization as part of an overall IT strategy. Want your company or services to be considered for this buyer’s guide? Please email your request to desire.athow@futurenet.com with the URL of the buying guide in the subject line. We've also featured the best ITSM tools. (Image credit: Datadog) 1. Datadog APM Trace problems through a full stack : VISIT WEBSITE Full-stack visibility Works with cloud platforms OpenTracing support Datadog APM is a SaaS-based platform for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing applications. It does this through a number of features, not least by providing full-stack visibility, which allows customers to collect, search, and analyze traces across their full infrastructure, whether cloud-based, servers, or applications. This can be done via a global overview which can be drilled down to a specific line of code, using a combination of analytics and software metrics. Real-time interactive dashboards provide the mapping of data services and clusters, with one-click navigation allowing processes to be isolated. These can be customized according to need, such as by using drag-and-drop performance dashboards, or automated using APIs, to provide performance alerts. Datadog's APM can be deployed on most po[CENSORED]r libraries and frameworks with a single command, providing instant monitoring. It also supports the OpenTracing protocols for applications and framework developers for distributed vendor-neutral tracing. Pricing for the APM with distributed tracing begins at $36 per host per month for up to one million events per host, but is discounted to $31 if paid annually. For an extra fee you can include the trace search and analytics add-on, which costs $2.55 per million APM events if paid monthly, but is discounted to $1.70 if paid annually. (Image credit: Loupe) 2. Loupe An APM with an easy setup, yet powerful features : VISIT WEBSITE No installation necessary, quick setup Groups events and finds bottlenecks Some APMs cover more applications Some may prefer traditional software Loupe is an effective, feature-packed application performance management tool. Aimed at enterprises and IT administrators, this solution lets you trace events, performance and other metrics to work out the causes of issues affecting software negatively. A good APM solution will help you find problems with apps straight away, and if you’ve got to hunt through a sprawling list of potential issues, then it’s going to be hard to do that. However, Loupe automatically groups log events so you can find and address performance issues with a minimum of fuss. The system also gives you a visual understanding of your application usage and offers insights into bottlenecks that can subsequently be tackled. It’s easy to get up and running with this system, as you don’t have to install anything onto your servers – the setup process is very nicely streamlined. Loupe offers a free trial, after which charges begin from $50 per month for the Basic plan which offers centralized logging and metrics for early stage applications. The Professional plan adds resolve and analyze, as well as unlimited users and unlimited errors from $150 GB per month. The Enterprise plan at $500 per month adds real-time log viewing and active directory integration. Each paid plan also includes 2GB, 10GB, and 50GB respectively of bandwidth per month, with additional charges per gigabyte if your bandwidth exceeds this - though Loupe are at pains to point out that most customers are unlikely to exceed bandwidth under normal circumstances. (Image credit: Kaseya) 3. Kaseya Traverse Monitoring A powerful APM to cover every corner of your business : VISIT WEBSITE Works across cloud and on-premise systems Troubleshoots any problems Opaque pricing Plenty of businesses use the cloud along with on-premise systems, and when you have a bunch of different apps – from cloud through hybrid to traditional software installations – monitoring them all can be very difficult. Traverse Monitoring is an APM tool that aims to tackle these sort of scenarios. It can automatically discover apps, networks, servers and systems, meaning you don’t have to dedicate time in order to configure things manually. Once it’s set up and running, Traverse will monitor each device and app to determine if there are any issues, including on-premise, cloud and hybrid technology. If a problem is identified, it’ll fire up a troubleshooting process and try to resolve it before your business is affected. You can also back up and restore changes across your applications, and you’re sent predictive analytics concerning their overall performance. The one negative is that Kaseya don't advertise flat-rate pricing like the above providers, so you will need to contact their sales department for a quote. (Image credit: Stackify) 4. Stackify Retrace An APM designed for devs : VISIT WEBSITE Designed with the needs of devs in mind Provides actionable insights May be too restricted for general users If you’re a developer or have a team of software engineers working within your company, then it’s obviously quite common to come across performance issues and other bugs. Stackify Retrace is a targeted ‘devAPM’ system, giving development professionals the tools they need to find and address problems effectively. The platform alerts developers if any issues and bugs have been found, and it can be used to improve performance levels across test and production servers. Retrace has been designed so that it provides visibility, data and actionable insights into app performance and faults. When issues arise, alerts are sent to a choice of destinations, including via email, SMS, or Slack. There’s a centralized dashboard that displays code performance and metrics, including errors and logs. Stackify can also be used with most common app stacks, and this is a highly scalable SaaS solution, so it’s easy to install and use. Pricing begins from $79 per month, when paid annually, for up to 1 million logs with a retention of 7 days for both logs and traces. The Standard plan begins from $199 per month, when paid annually, and allows for over 5 million logs as well as 15-90 log retention. An Enterprise edition is also available for customized higher demand limits. (Image credit: ManageEngine) 5. ManageEngine Applications Manager A powerful and scalable APM : VISIT WEBSITE Covers all aspects of apps and core infrastructure Highly scalable Not cheap Applications Manager from ManageEngine is a tool which does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s being marketed as an enterprise-ready, usable and affordable APM. Businesses are provided with everything they need to ensure critical applications and systems are always in perfect working order. This solution can find and address issues involving the end user, applications and important components such as databases, servers, ERP packages, web services, cloud platforms and virtual systems. Applications Manager works with a single install and allows you to address issues easily, plus when looking further down the road, it’s highly scalable – indeed, it can scale to up to 50,000 applications. However, although there is a free demo available, there is no flat-rate pricing advertised and you will need to contact ManageEngine for a quote. Other APM options to consider There are a number of other vendors leading the way with APM solutions. Here we'll provide a few more options for you to consider as part of your IT infrastructure management. LogicMonitor offers automated hybrid infrastructure monitoring and analytics, which means it can automatically monitor all devices, or work with a preconfigured set of rules for the tools you use. LogicMonitor's platform works with servers, cloud, VMs, storage, networks, and apps, as well as websites. In short, it offers a pretty comprehensive set of options for monitoring a wide range of necessary applications. Dynatrace looks to simplify complexities in cloud management, not least with the automated monitoring of dynamic microservices. It makes it easy to visualize and monitor all services and provide alerts for events, not least unexpected access to files and information. As a platform it really is very comprehensive in being able to identify problems and help staff rectify them, even when such issues have previously gone unnoticed or have been difficult to pin down. New Relic APM monitoring uses clear visualization to help identify performance levels, bottlenecks, and dependencies, by offering a complete overview of your operating environment. Aside from automated processes, the charts are well-presented and make it very clear where root causes lie, making it easier to identify and fix problems. It also works with a lot of data, not just from the apps being monitored, but also key metrics from user agents to make identifying solutions to issues easier to adapt for customer needs. Microsoft System Center aims to make it easier to deploy, configure, and manage the IT infrastructure that you're monitoring. The interface is easy to use and reliable, but you may still find there's something of a learning curve as it has a broad range of software features. However, once you get to grips with those, it can be very easy to configure you own custom system and deployments.

The new Madden 21 game has been officially out for at least a week and according to EA’s numbers, user engagement has looked good early on. They recently unveiled information indicating that more gamers were playing games in this year’s version as compared to last year’s Madden 20. In addition, we have a look at the most po[CENSORED]r teams including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, driven by the “Brady Effect.” EA reports Madden 21 po[CENSORED]rity for players, usage EA Sports revealed an infographic based on player data from their Madden 21 game on Thursday (Sept. 3). It includes which players and teams were the most po[CENSORED]r, as well as indicators that overall usage is much higher than last year. In fact, the infographic (below) says that Madden 21 user engagement over seven days is up 49 percent compared to Madden 20. The other telling stat from the infographic relates to what they’re calling the “Brady Effect.” Basically, more players are using the Tampa Bay Buccaneers than ever. In fact, it’s up 873 percent compared to usage in Madden 20. In addition, the Bucs are amongst the top five most po[CENSORED]r teams, ranking fifth. Ahead of the Bucs are the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens. All of these were po[CENSORED]r squads in last year’s game, but the addition of six-time Super Bowl champ Tom Brady to Tampa Bay has them surging in usage. Brady is also No. 4 amongst the top quarterbacks in Madden 21 based on total passing touchdowns. Ahead of him are Russell Wilson, Madden 21 cover star Lamar Jackson, and Madden 20 cover star Patrick Mahomes. The po[CENSORED]rity of the game in terms of high user engagement may be due to the pandemic circumstances which have affected many activities and events. As of right now, the new game has a historically-low user score online at review sites like Metacritic. However, a huge Madden 21 title update is expected this month. Top teams revealed based on win percentage Overall, players have completed 460,000 seasons worth of football in the new Madden 21 game, so far. That’s a lot of games ahead of the start of the actual NFL season. In addition to showing us po[CENSORED]r players and teams, we see which squads led each division based on win percentage. We see that the Green Bay Packers took the NFC North, the Philadelphia Eagles won NFC East, and the Arizona Cardinals won NFC West. Tampa Bay claimed the NFC South. In the AFC, it was the Bengals (AFC North), Jaguars (South), Bills (East), and Chargers (West). Of those teams, it seems that the Packers, Eagles, Buccaneers, and Bills probably hold the best chances to claim division titles. The Cardinals hold +900 odds to win the NFC West, the worst of all teams in the division. The Jacksonville Jaguars are +2000 favorites and the Bengals are +2600 on the NFL future odds to win their respective divisions, both of which are dead last. Still, the excitement of young quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Kyler Murray has fans high on these teams heading into 2020. The NFL season begins on Thursday, Sept. 10 with the Houston Texans battling the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Visit our Madden page here for more game updates and guides for how to play.

Speed Average speed loss: 9% Number of servers: 1,050 Number of server locations: 54 countries We ran our speed tests over the course of three days with dynamic IP addresses, using both wireless and Ethernet connections -- one location offered slower broadband speeds and the other offered higher speeds via fiber optic internet. Internet speeds in the US vary widely by state and provider. And with any speed test, results are going to rely on your local infrastructure, with hyperfast internet service yielding higher speed test results. That's one reason we're more interested in testing the amount of speed lost (which for most VPNs is typically half or more) across both high-speed and slower connection types, and in using tools like speedtest.net to even out the playing field. In the case of ProtonVPN, I saw only 9.6% speed loss compared to average speeds clocked without a VPN. ProtonVPN's base speeds sent it blazing past most of our roster of tested services and into second place behind ExpressVPN, which clocked a speed loss of less than 2% the last time it was tested. On speed testing, that puts it well ahead of our last tests for Surfshark and NordVPN (which averaged 27% speed loss and 32% speed loss, respectively). Like Surfshark, ProtonVPN pulled off these kinds of speeds with a relatively smaller server fleet than its larger competitors. Read more: How we review VPNs The sticking point on speeds was three-fold, however. The time required to connect to a server was longer than some of the other services I've tested. I noticed some larger-than-normal disparities in upload and download speeds. And ping times (how long it takes a bit of data to make a round trip from you to your destination and back) were up across the five regions I tested, suggesting some potential latency issues. That last bit could hamper you if you're looking to use a VPN for gaming, but overall speeds were high enough that you should have no problem functionally torrenting via one of their four peer-to-peer servers. Overall peak speed was reached on US servers at 214Mbps in a testing round with non-VPN speeds in the 70s. US servers ranked fastest overall among the tests, with average download speeds of 92Mbps compared to our overall non-VPN average speeds of 83Mbps. UK servers came in at a close second place with about 85Mbps, topping out at 206Mbps. They were followed by Australian servers at 73Mbps, which beat out those in Paris, Berlin (a combined average of about 65Mbps) and Singapore's 61Mbps. In our tests, ProtonVPN only caused about 9% of internet speed loss. ProtonVPN Security and privacy Jurisdiction: Switzerland Encryption: AES-256-GCM, RSA-2096, Perfect Forward Secrecy No leaks detected Includes kill switch, IPv6 and DNS leak protection There's immediate appeal in the idea of a VPN with a jurisdiction safely inside the legendary neutrality of the Swiss border. Switzerland is a formal member of neither the Five Eyes, Nine Eyes nor 14 Eyes international intelligence-sharing agreements. It's not a formal EU or EEA member state and, as such, is often exempt from GDPR data retention laws. The Swiss' international privacy cachet is carried far past its storied banking system and into the fundamental rights to personal data privacy embedded in its constitution. If that weren't embedded enough, ProtonVPN's got a cache of 40 privately-owned servers it uses for a type of multihop VPN feature, called Secure Core, which are stashed across a former Icelandic military base, an underground Swedish data center, and a former Swiss army fallout shelter 1,000 meters below the surface. A multihop feature like this jumps your connection through multiple countries to hide your trail. Read more: All the VPN terms you need to know One small problem: The majority of ProtonVPN's server fleet is leased, and Switzerland isn't the data-surveillance safe haven it used to be. Following the outcome of a 2016 national referendum, the country's government now has the right to bug private property, tap phone lines and monitor internet traffic in the name of antiterrorism. It's unclear exactly how much of the data gathered under that expanded surveillance authority ends up in the hands of Five Eyes countries. But it's worth pointing out Switzerland's Onyx international communications surveillance system has been intercepting intelligence since at least 2000, long before anticybercrime efforts in the country further deepened certain multinational intelligence-sharing relationships. And the Swiss are far from immune to US intelligence operations taking place within their borders. That's one reason I don't like that ProtonVPN logs timestamps for connection sessions (even if they're only verifying your account login credentials, and the data is anonymized and overwritten by each successive session). But it's also the reason why I love ProtonVPN's transparency policies: it's completely open-source with routinely published audits, and includes a built-in route to VPN into Tor servers. Its encryption is standard AES-256, and its apps avoid outdated protocols and use OpenVPN by default. You can use IKEv2 protocol on the Android app, but Proton has wisely eliminated the use of less secure options like PPTP and L2TP, which are still hawked by some VPNs. It also supports Perfect Forward Secrecy, which means it frequently changes encryption keys to avoid security compromises. The company offers a useful kill-switch feature, which prevents network data from leaking outside of its secure VPN tunnel in the event the VPN connection fails. No IP address, DNS or other potentially user-identifying data leaks were detected during our testing, and ProtonVPN offers IPv6 and DNS leak protection features. But the service appears to have hit a block in China, preventing connection. Cost Usability: Nearly zero learning curve Platforms: Windows, Android, MacOS, iOS, Linux and router support Price: $8 a month ($96 charged yearly) Number of simultaneous connections: 10 ProtonVPN imposes no data caps and allows unlimited server switching. I also had no problems using it to access Netflix and other streaming sites. Its desktop and app interfaces are attractively minimal with a user-friendly map feature, and a plenty of options to explore under the hood. Price-wise ProtonVPN's standard package, called Plus, runs $8 per month ($96 charged yearly). That price is higher than our Editors' Choice VPN, ExpressVPN, whose best plan is priced at $6.67 a month for an annual package. ProtonVPN also gets beat on price by NordVPN's two-year plan at $5 per month ($60 a year), and Surfshark's current $6 monthly ($72 a year). ProtonVPN also offers a free version of the service and a version for $4 per month, but since the typical must-have VPN features are missing under those options, they aren't really worth considering. Those missing features include reduced speeds, no access to blocked content or Secure Core servers, and no Tor-over-VPN feature. (I never recommend free VPNs, no matter how strong the paid product from the same company may be.) Along with credit or debit, you can pay for ProtonVPN's service with PayPal or Bitcoin, and be assured of a 30-day money-back guarantee. Proton also offers a . The site offers 24/7 chat support, and a healthy amount of support articles and tutorials.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3090 & GeForce RTX 3080 custom designs have leaked out once again. The next-generation Ampere based graphics cards will be announced this week in several custom and Founders Edition variants with impressive cooling solutions. The new custom designs which have been pictured are from ASUS and Gainward. ASUS & Gainward's Custom NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 & GeForce RTX 3080 Graphics Cards Leak Out Starting with the ASUS graphics card, the GeForce RTX 3090 ROG STRIX Gaming graphics card has been leaked by Videocardz and features the same shroud design that leaked back in July. Back then, the card featured the 'RTX 3080 Ti' branding but that has changed as the specific SKU isn't planned for the Ampere GeForce RTX 30 series lineup, at least initially. As for the design of the card, the ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 3090 looks rather impressive with a more aggressive look that comes with three axial-tech based fans and a massive heatsink underneath the shroud. Gainward GeForce RTX 3090 & GeForce RTX 3080 Phoenix Custom Graphics Cards Pictured, Specs Detailed The front of the custom card has a dual-tone design with frames that seem to be made out of aluminum extending out & giving the card a more premium feel which looks similar to ASUS's Poseidon series offerings. The heatsink underneath is made up of a large aluminum fin stack that makes use of at least 6 heat pipes. The card seems to fall in the 2.7 slot tier and has extra width to it for the extended PCB to make way for all the custom electrical components that the board will feature. ASUS may also be investing in some cool features such as an OLED display and we can see the addition of a large LED panel on the side of the card. There are no additional details such as the specifications or the launch date of the card but we are hoping to learn them soon enough if the cards are already getting custom designs built around them this early. The ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 30 series graphics cards will be unveiled tomorrow but expect sales to begin around mid or later in September. Gainward GeForce RTX 3090 & RTX 3080 Cards Leak Out Again Meanwhile, Gainward's GeForce RTX 3090 and GeForce RTX 3080 Phoenix graphics cards have leaked out once again but this time by the manufacturer themselves. The Gainward GeForce RTX 30 series high-end lineup will feature the Phoenix 'Golden Sample' line of graphics cards, both of which feature a 2.7 slot design. The design of both cards is similar to each other as both feature the NVIDIA Ampere GA102 GPU. The cooler features a triple-fan design and a nice aluminum shroud which is illuminated by RGB LEDs. The card features a large GeForce RTX logo on the sides and also comes with an aluminum backplate that extends beyond the PCB. ZOTAC GeForce RTX 3090, GeForce RTX 3080, GeForce RTX 3070 Custom Graphics Cards Pictured Talking about the PCB, it seems like the cards will make use of a very compact design that doesn't extend the full length of the cooler. The design is not similar to the reference Founders Edition PCB that we saw earlier but comes in a standard form factor. The GeForce RTX 3090 and GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards will require dual 8-pin connectors to boot. From the looks of it, the RTX 3090 will feature next-generation NVLINK connectors while the GeForce RTX 3080 won't feature any such interface. Gainward GeForce RTX 3090 & RTX 3080 Phoenix Graphics Cards (Image Credits: Videocardz Via @harukaze5719) This goes off to show that even with 350W TBP, the GeForce RTX 3090 will still have several custom variants that won't require the outrageous triple 8-pin connector configuration to boot. The triple 8 pin cards will, however, offer higher overclockability and faster clock speeds compared to the stock variants. Gainward GeForce RTX 3090 & RTX 3080 Phoenix Graphics Cards Specs (Image Credits: Videocardz Via @harukaze5719) NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 - The Fastest Ampere Gaming Graphics Card According to leaked details, the GeForce RTX 3090 will feature the GA102-300-A1 GPU. The GA102-300-A1 GPU is said to be comprised of 5248 CUDA cores or 82 SMs. In total, that's a 20% increase in cores over the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. No details such as clock speeds, TMU/ROP counts are provided and we can't take the Ampere A100 die as a reference since gaming & HPC parts share a different configuration hierarchy. The GA102-300 GPU on the Gainward Phoneix GS model is going to clock up to a boost frequency of 1725 MHz while the standard model is going to clock in at 1695 MHz. Moving on to the memory side, things start to look interesting as it is stated that the card will get up to 24 GB memory with faster GDDR6X pin speeds of 19.5 Gbps. Since that's a 384-bit bus we are looking at, it will be able to offer nearly 1 TB/s bandwidth. The GeForce RTX 3090 is going to come with a total graphics power of 350W (TGP). As per recent leaks, the GeForce RTX 3090 is expected to cost $1399 US. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 - GA102 For High-End Gaming Moving on to the GeForce RTX 3080, the rumor reports that the card will be featuring the GA102-200-KD-A1 SKU. This cut down SKU will feature the same 4352 CUDA cores as the RTX 2080 Ti that will be arranged in a total of 68 SMs. The Gainward Golden Sample will feature a maximum boost clock of 1740 MHz while the standard variant will feature a boost clock of 1710 MHz. The card is reportedly going to feature up to 10 GB of memory that is also going to be GDDR6X but there are several vendors who will be offering the card with a massive 20 GB frame buffer but at higher prices. Since the memory is running at 19 Gbps across a 320-bit bus interface, we can expect a bandwidth of up to 760 GB/s. The latest performance leaks also show a considerable performance improvement over the RTX 2080 and even the RTX 2080 Ti in synthetic benchmarks. If the same could translate over to the gaming performance, then Ampere does look like a super enticing product for gamers who have waited for almost 2 years now. New details regarding the performance of AMD's next-generation Zen 3 based EPYC Milan CPUs have been unearthed by Hardwareluxx. The information comes from internal AMD slides which were obtained by the publication and reveal the performance potential of AMD's next-gen server powerhouse. AMD Zen 3 EPYC Milan CPUs Up To 20% Faster Than Zen 2 EPYC Rome, Larger Cache & Faster Clocked Variants Detailed AMD's Zen 3 based EPYC Milan CPUs are planned to ship later this year and is expected to continue performance leadership in the server segment. Based on the leaked information, AMD is definitely going to deliver another major breakthrough in server performance with its 3rd Gen EPYC family of processors. NVIDIA GeForce GPUs Gain Major Market Share Versus AMD Radeon in Q2 2020, Hits 80% Market Share In The Discrete Segment AMD EPYC Milan Features Max of 64 Cores But Up To 20% Faster Performance According to the report, the AMD Zen 3 core architecture has increased the IPC performance by 15 percent. However, there is a certain range of SKUs within the EPYC Milan lineup that would deliver even higher performance. AMD is taking a different approach with EPYC Milan CPUs, segmenting the 64 core for compute-intensive workloads and 32 core parts maximizing the clock-throughput. The 64 core parts are expected to deliver a performance jump of around 10 to 15% over existing EPYC Rome 64 core processors. The 32 core parts, on the other hand, are expected to deliver a 20% performance boost over the existing 32 core EPYC Rome parts. The leak states that AMD's 32 core parts and below can achieve significantly higher clock rates than the 64 core parts. The fewer cores will be able to offer higher and more stable clock speeds than the higher core parts, hence leading to a bigger performance jump over their predecessors. AMD's EPYC Milan CPUs will stick to a maximum of 64 cores which will be composed of 8 chiplets. These CCD chiplets will feature 8 Zen 3 cores but unlike the previous generation parts, the CCX is entirely excluded from the architecture. The CCD is a singular unit that consists of 32 MB of L3 cache shared by all 8 cores while each core has its own separate 1 MB L2 cache. 1usmus Unveils ClockTuner Performance Boosting Utility For AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs, Also Improves Efficiency of Each CCX While the EPYC Milan 64 core processors feature 8 chiplets, the 32 core parts will be composed of four chiplets. That could change if AMD wants to offer 32 core parts with higher L3 cache and that would only be possible with more than 4 chiplets. We have recently seen leaked ES samples with a rated boost clock of up to 3.0 GHz in A0 revision. Currently in-design with a planned launch by 2022, the Genoa lineup would bring a brand new set of features to the server landscape. AMD announced that EPYC Genoa would be compatible with the new SP5 platform which brings a new socket so SP3 compatibility would exist up till EPYC Milan. The EPYC Genoa processors would also feature support for new memory and new capabilities. It looks like AMD would definitely be jumping on board the DDR5 bandwagon in 2021. Since DDR5 comes with Zen 4, it is possible that AMD's Ryzen and Threadripper lines would also feature support for the new memory interface. It is also stated that new capabilities would be introduced on EPYC Genoa which sounds like a hint at the new PCIe 5.0 protocol which would double the bandwidth of PCIe 4.0, offering 128 Gbps link speeds across an x16 interface. As per the new details, AMD's EPYC Genoa processors will feature more than 64 cores & will retain SMT2. Aside from DDR5 memory support, the leaked roadmap also mentions support for the latest Persistent Memory (NVDIMM-P) on the SP5 platform. The thermal design for Genoa will look a lot similar to existing parts with SKUs ranging from 120-240W with a few special variants featuring 225 Watt figures. It is also stated that Genoa's successor is expected to be unveiled by the second half of 2021 and we can expect the first tape out of next-generation EPYC soon. Summing everything up for EPYC Genoa, we are looking at the following main features: 5nm Zen 4 cores SP5 Platform With New Socket PCIe 5.0 Support DDR5 Memory Support Launch by 2022 Genoa CPUs would be featured in the El Capitan supercomputer which is expected to deliver over 2 Exaflops of Compute power when it becomes operational in 2023. It would also utilize the next-generation CDNA2 GPUs which are solely designed for HPC workloads. The new EPYC lineup would be outfitted with the 3rd Generation Infinity Fabric architecture which you can find more details on over here.

Microsoft has unveiled a new feature for Word that should make note-taking faster and easier than ever, for professional and personal users alike. According to a Microsoft blog post, the po[CENSORED]r word processor will now allow users to transcribe audio in real-time and generate transcripts from existing recordings (including .mp3, .wav, .m4a and .mp4 files). The new addition, called Transcribe in Word, generates interactive transcripts that sit in the sidebar next to the document - ready to be searched, edited or drawn from. Check out our list of the best text to speech software around Office 365 vs G Suite: What's the best office software? We've built a list of the best speech to text software on the market Word can also differentiate between the voices of multiple speakers, meaning transcripts are simple to read and digest. Transcribe is available immediately to all Microsoft 365 subscribers via the Microsoft Word web client, but is only compatible with Edge and Google Chrome web browsers. Microsoft Word update With the addition of the new transcription feature, Word will now rival po[CENSORED]r speech-to-text offerings such as Nuance Dragon and Speechmatics, which are used to compose documents using only voice and for other heavy duty transcription tasks. “Whether you’re a reporter conducting interviews, a researcher recording focus group sessions, or an online entrepreneur recording informal discussions, you want to be able to focus on the people you’re talking to without worrying about taking notes,” wrote Microsoft. “Now you can record your conversations directly in Word for the web and transcribe them automatically. After your conversations, you can revisit parts of the recording by playing back the time-stamped audio and you can even edit the transcript if you see something amiss.” As well as saving time for anyone that might need to transcribe a long recording - including journalists like ourselves - the new feature could also prove a life-saver for individuals that suffer from a condition that hampers their ability to type effectively. Users will also enjoy unlimited audio recording and transcription, provided the individual recordings are no longer than five hours and no larger than 200MB. Microsoft has confirmed the new transcription feature will land on Microsoft Word for mobile devices by the end of the year and support for a wider range of languages (beyond just English) is in the works.

Jon Peddie Research has just shared the GPU market results for the second quarter of 2020. In an unusual twist, the second quarter of 2020 saw a major boost in GPU shipments from both NVIDIA and AMD. NVIDIA Gains 80% Discrete GPU Market Share in Q2 2020, AMD Falls Down To 20% It looks like the COVID-19 pandemic didn't stop consumers from buying new hardware and as a result, Q2 2020 saw a 2.5% increase in GPU shipments compared to Q1 2020. Typically, the 2nd quarter is down each year but as seen in the results, NVIDIA and AMD moved a good amount of units. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Next-Gen Ampere Gaming Graphics Cards Teased, Revolutionary PCB & Cooling Design Quick highlights AMD’s overall unit shipments increased by 8.4% quarter-to-quarter, Intel’s total shipments decreased by -2.7% from last quarter, and Nvidia’s increased by 17.8%. The overall attach rate of GPUs (includes integrated and discrete GPUs, desktop, notebook, and workstations) to PCs for the quarter was 126% which was up by 2.3% from last quarter. The overall PC market increased by 0.68% quarter-to-quarter and increased by 12.54% year-to-year. Desktop graphics add-in boards (AIBs that use discrete GPUs) increased by 6.55% from last quarter. Q2'20 saw no change in tablet shipments from last quarter. via JPR Talking about overall GPU shipments, AMD's shipments increased by 8.4% which led to an 18% GPU market share, NVIDIA's shipments increased by 17.8% which led to a 19% market share and finally, Intel shipments fell by 2.7% leading to a market share of 64%. The numbers also take into account integrated graphics which are usually featured onboard processors from AMD and Intel. Coming to the discrete graphics numbers, the overall AIB market increased by 6.55% from the previous quarter. NVIDIA gained some huge market share, climbing back to 80% versus 75% in the previous quarter. AMD didn't fare as well in the discrete graphics segment as its share fell to 20%. AMD's discrete GPU market share was 29% during Q2 2019 which means that AMD has lost 9% of its graphics foothold since last year. The higher number of shipments could be attributed to the release of NVIDIA's GeForce SUPER line up of GPUs, both for the desktop and mobility segment. NVIDIA's SUPER line of mobility GPUs were featured on several high-performance AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen and Intel's 10th Gen Core laptops. They were also featured in mainstream options priced within the sweet-spot category. At the same time, promotions on the older GeForce Turing graphics cards and game bundles pushed sales for the PC desktop cards. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 To Feature 24 GB GDDR6X & RTX 3080 To Feature 10 GB GDDR6X Memory AMD didn't hold back in the desktop field with the Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5600 cards getting price cuts every now and then but AMD failed to offer any product within the enthusiast performance category, both in the desktop and mobility space. AMD's Radeon RX 5700 Mobility was also missing in action entirely from the notebook space for a long time whereas NVIDIA had several high-end and mainstream budget options targetted at the mobility segment. For the second half of 2020, we can see NVIDIA retaining or pushing its share even further since they are about to release their next-generation Ampere GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards. AMD also plans to release its Big Navi 'Radeon RX' graphics cards around Q4 2020 so expect the market to remain heated during the winter season!
