India also supports a push by the IMF, the World Bank and the United States for the so-called Common Framework (CF). G20 finance ministers and central bank governors will discuss debt troubles in developing economies, crypto currencies and global inflationary pressures at a meeting later this week, Indian officials said on Tuesday. The February 22-25 meeting in the Nandi Hills summer retreat near Bengaluru is the first major event of India's G20 presidency. The meeting straddles the February 24 anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the war is likely to be high on the agenda. Unblocking debt restructuring for distressed economies and boosting aid for Ukraine is expected to take prominence at the meeting, where US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is also expected to press China to "quickly deliver" on debt relief for low and middle income countries. India's presidency of the bloc comes at a time when neighbouring South Asian countries Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan have sought a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the past year due to an economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine war. Reuters reported last week that India is drafting a proposal for G20 countries to help debtor nations by asking lenders, including China, the world's largest sovereign creditor, to take a large haircut on loans. "While thinking about debt concerns faced by countries, it is also important to think about what we can do to forestall them," India's Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran told reporters at a news conference ahead of the G20 meeting. "So the discussions would be aimed both at handling them before they arise and after they arise as well." Other items on the agenda include rules on cryptocurrencies, reform of multilateral development banks, international taxation and securing adequate finance to combat climate change, the officials said. During the event, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) plans to hold a virtual meeting with the World Bank, India, China, Saudi Arabia, the United States and other Group of Seven (G7) nations to try to reach understandings on common standards, principles and definitions on how to restructure distressed country debts. India also supports a push by the IMF, the World Bank and the United States for the so-called Common Framework (CF) — a G20 initiative launched in 2020 to help poor countries delay debt repayments — to be expanded to include middle-income countries. link: https://www.gadgets360.com/cryptocurrency/news/india-other-g20-finance-chiefs-discuss-debt-crypto-inflation-3802681

AMD partners have started to roll out their newest AGESA 1.0.0.5 BIOS firmware that adds support for Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs on AM5 motherboards. AMD AGESA 1.0.0.5 BIOS Firmware Rolling Out To AM5 Motherboards, Prepping For Ryzen 7000 X3D CPUs With the launch of AMD's Ryzen 7000 X3D CPUs expected next week, board vendors are rolling out the latest BIOS firmware for their AM5 motherboards within the X670(E) and B650(E) families. The latest BIOS is based on the AGESA 1.0.0.5c firmware which should enable support for the 3D CPUs. As for the availability of the latest BIOS, it looks like ASRock is the first to offer it on their webpage for both X670(E) and B650(E) series motherboards. The BIOS was uploaded just a few hours ago & the description states that it updates the AGESA ComboAM5 to version 1.0.0.5c. Meanwhile, ASUS also has a BETA BIOS which updates to the AGESA 1.0.0.5c firmware and adds support for the Core Flex feature for AMD Ryzen 7000 X3D CPUs. Gigabyte hasn't announced anything for their AM5 motherboards yet and their support page still lists down 1.0.0.4 BIOS as the latest available firmware. MSI has plans to announce the latest BIOS for its AM5 motherboards very soon so we will be keeping you updated when those are available. Meanwhile, the following is the SMU of the AGESA 1.0.0.5c BIOS firmware. It should be pointed out that the AMD Ryzen 7000 X3D CPUs will be introduced with the Ryzen 9 lineup first on the 28th of February. The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D will be available on the 6th of April and that CPU is the one that most gamers are interested in. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D will cost $699 US, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D will cost $599 US while the Ryzen 7 7800X3D will cost $449 US. Reviews are expected to be available a day earlier before the launch. link: https://wccftech.com/motherboard-vendors-roll-out-agesa-1-0-0-5-bios-firmware-support-for-amd-ryzen-7000-x3d-cpus/

The ultimate choice Microsoft will let those playing Redfall on their Xbox choose between a controller and a keyboard. Making this the second first-party title released by Microsoft in 2023 with this option available. Redfall is an upcoming co-op FPS game with a release date of May 2. Brought to us by Arkane, the devs behind Prey and Dishonored, this bloodthirsty shooter has murderous vampires around every corner. In a post-apocalyptic open-world town, you’ll have to take these beasts down in either single-player or co-op modes. However, the violence may not stop at the blood-thirsty vampires. According to the official Xbox store page(opens in new tab) for Redfall, this FPS will support a mouse and keyboard on consoles, not just controllers. This option can work without too many arguments, thanks to Redfall's lack of player-versus-player components. Therefore, while you may be able to outperform your teammates, there won’t be any salty vampires typing nasty words in chat, shaming you for using a more accurate mouse or an aim-assisting controller. Are there others? While this is unusual, Redfall isn’t the first game to do this. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, released in 2019, allows you to plug a keyboard into your Xbox Series X| S. This gives players with a keyboard a sizable advantage. A mouse is more favorable when dealing with real-time strategy games due to the accuracy, speed, and precision needed when selecting things. On the other hand, it was a disadvantage for a long time to use a mouse and keyboard in the FPS multiplayer shooter Halo Infinite. Thanks to the aim assist provided by controllers, playing against those with a keyboard and mouse was child's play. However, 343 Industries fixed this with mouse aim-assist. Fight to the death Both Halo Infinite and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition demonstrate why games that allow controllers and keyboards can be so contentious. The benefits and shortcomings of each option are so different that they can impact an individual's gameplay massively, whether this is increased actions per minute thanks to a mouse or aim assist with a controller. However, games like Redfall may be the only time this debate isn’t so contentious. Allowing players to choose between what best suits them, whether this is a controller or a keyboard, seems like an excellent feature for titles where the choice doesn’t have a massive impact on the outcome of a game. While I’ll always sit on the side of the mouse and keyboard, maybe Redfall’s newest feature will give me a better appreciation of controllers as I finally fight alongside them against a common enemy; angry vampires. link: https://www.techradar.com/news/this-first-party-xbox-title-is-set-to-allow-mouse-and-keyboard-on-console

The Windblume Festival is returning to Mondstadt. The latest Genshin Impact update brings two new characters, Dehya and Mika, and sees the return of the Windblume Festival. Dehya is a five-star Pyro Claymore user. She has been a long-time cast member, active throughout the Sumeru storyline. Dehya can place Fiery Sanctum fields causing AoE Pyro damage when enemies take damage. She also mitigates damage for other characters in the party, taking it on herself. Activating her elemental burst will see her enter a Blazing Lioness state where she can deal extra fire damage with her fists. Mika is a four-star Cryo Polearm user. He also wields a crossbow and thereby can attack enemies at range. Other party members will benefit from an increased attack weapon when around Mika. His elemental skill will also give other party members higher physical damage. His elemental burst heals other party members and grants the Eagleplume state, which enables party members to gain health from performing normal attacks. The Windblume festival includes various mini-games such as photography challenges, a rhythm game, and timed racing challenges. Participation in the festival will win you the exclusive four-star Claymore, the Mailed Flower. You can also participate in battles via the Vibro-Crystal Verification challenge event. Combine Transmitter crystals with Reciever crystals to produces effect you can utilize in special battle. With the right strategy, you can vanquish foes with ease and win rewards. As for other updates, a limited-edition mode of the Genius Invocation TCG, called Heated Battle Mode, is now available. Each completed Archon Quest will grant you an extra Intertwined Fate. Prime Gaming members will receive a "Wings of the Starlit Feast" if you link your Prime account to Genshin Impact. link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/genshin-impact-version-3-5-adds-two-new-playable-characters-and-a-variety-of-events/1100-6511650/

One creepy island just became more sought-after than 1,000 planets. We're always keeping our eye on the ever-shifting fortunes of Steam's most-wishlisted games, and there have been some interesting developments lately. A few weeks ago there was the whole The Day Before debacle(opens in new tab), where one of the most-wishlisted games on Steam abruptly vanished due to a trademark dispute, a story that managed to only get weirder(opens in new tab) from there. And this week horror survival sandbox Sons of the Forest(opens in new tab) took over the top wishlist spot from Starfield, Bethesda's intensely-anticipated RPG. It looks like more Steam users are now interested in exploring a single creepy island than they are in visiting 1,000 planets in outer space. 'Course, there are few explanations for why an indie survival game just trumped Bethesda's next RPG on players' shopping lists. Starfield is coming to PC Game Pass at launch, so I'm sure tons of Steam users won't even be playing it on Steam. And despite loads of speculation(opens in new tab), Starfield still doesn't have a gott-dang release date yet. Also… why even bother wishlisting Starfield? It's not like you'll need an email reminder from Valve when it finally launches. You'll hear about it from every streamer, YouTuber, and gaming site in the world. But it's still a pretty amazing feat for a game about chopping down trees and hacking up cannibals in the woods, especially considering developer Endnight Games announced only two weeks ago that Sons of the Forest will launch into early access(opens in new tab) on February 23, rather than as a full release. The words "early access survival game" typically doesn't strike confidence into the hearts of gamers. Cool, cool. But what the heck is Sons of the Forest? If you're not familiar with Sons of the Forest, it's the sequel to another survival game, The Forest, which hit early access in 2014 (back when Steam Greenlight was still a thing). Marooned on an island, you had to build a shelter, craft weapons and tools, gather food and water, and deal with the island's scary-as-hell inhabitants, a tribe of vicious cannibals. The Forest had a pretty shaky start, as unfinished games often do, but it also showed tons of potential with striking visuals, horrifying enemies, and memorable survival and combat systems (you could use a severed leg as a melee weapon). Over the next several years the developers patched it repeatedly, added new features like co-op and even VR support, and eventually drew a crowd. More importantly, the crowd stayed: there are still thousands of people playing The Forest every day, and its peak consecutive player count of over 76,000 happened only a few months ago. So, The Forest became a sort of cult hit, and the sequel has some fun goodies planned. This time you're visiting an island to locate a missing billionaire, and you're not alone. Not only can you play Sons of the Forest in co-op, but you'll have a companion to help you out, too. As revealed by IGN(opens in new tab) last month, an AI-controlled survivor named Kelvin will pick up the slack by chopping wood, stockpiling resources, and handling other mundane chores while you focus on building or exploring. There are apparently other companions you can recruit later in the game, including a three-legged mutant. That's definitely intriguing enough for me to put it on my own wishlist. According to its Steam page(opens in new tab), Sons of the Forest plans to remain in early access for 6-8 months, though that could change depending on player feedback. It's set to launch on Feb 23. link: https://www.pcgamer.com/this-early-access-survival-game-just-climbed-over-starfield-to-become-the-most-wishlisted-game-on-steam/

Welcome centres that have housed Ukrainian refugees in Wales since the beginning of the war are set to close. The Welsh government said it is part of a "concentrated effort" to help them move into long-term accommodation. But one MP said there needs to be a "comprehensive plan" to house the refugees if centres close. A Welsh government spokesperson said anyone unable to move into long-term housing would be offered "alternative accommodation". First lone Ukrainian child refugee lands in Wales Appeal for more to open homes to Ukrainians Donations for Ukrainian refugees 'overwhelming' The Welsh government has indicated that the closures will be a gradual process as people get new accommodation. When the war in Ukraine began a year ago, families in Wales were given the chance to become hosts, providing a safe place for refugees to stay. Welcome centres - buildings like hotels that were repurposed - were also set up by the Welsh government. Latest figures show more than 3,000 Ukrainians have received support from the Welsh government since the beginning of the war. The Welsh government said the plans are part of an effort to help Ukrainian people, and are "not funding-related". But Hywel Williams, MP for Arfon, is calling for information on how people from such centres will be able to access housing. "If people are going to be moved out into the community, we need to have some provision for them," he said. "Announcing they will be closing in the hope something might turn up is just not good enough. There is no good reason to close these places." He said Gwynedd council said it had received "official confirmation" from the Welsh government that welcome centres in the area would close "in the summer". "Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of these vulnerable individuals in the centres," he added. Conservative Senedd leader Andrew RT Davies said an "urgent" long-term plan was needed to support Ukrainian refugees and avoid leaving them "in a state of limbo." "Announcing the closure of Welsh welcome centres with over a third of those people yet to arrive in Wales without an alternative plan in place is not good enough," he said. A Welsh government spokesperson said it, along with councils and housing associations, continue "to play a hugely successful role in welcoming Ukrainian people to Wales, helping the move on into longer term accommodation. "People who are not able to move on into longer-term accommodation from a welcome centre - either with hosts, or not private or social housing across Wales - will be offered alternative accommodation." link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-64715377

Even the toughest species might have a limit under climate change. As climate change transforms our world, the impacts will be felt unequally, with some animals struggling to survive and others finding ways to overcome the resulting challenges. This phenomenon is increasingly described as the "winners and losers under climate change," said Giovanni Strona(opens in new tab), an ecologist and former associate professor at the University of Helsinki, now a researcher at the European Commission. Strona led a 2022 study, published in the journal Science Advances(opens in new tab), that found that under an intermediate emissions scenario, we stand to lose, on average across the globe, almost 20% of vertebrate biodiversity by the century's end. Under a worst-case warming scenario, that loss rises to almost 30%. So which animals are the "winners," and how well will they really fare under increasing temperatures, drought and habitat loss? Everything is connected There's no doubt about the threats to Earth's biodiversity from climate change and habitat destruction. In 2022, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released the Living Planet Report(opens in new tab), which described a 69% decline in the relative abundance of monitored species since 1970. Meanwhile, 1 million species now face extinction across our planet because of these twin threats, according to the report. There's now mounting evidence that Earth is experiencing its sixth mass extinction. Climate change contributes to these extinction risks in complex and interconnected ways, some of which are still-unknown. It will affect po[CENSORED]tions directly by inducing extreme weather events, like storms; by driving up temperatures or reducing rainfall beyond the thresholds a species needs to survive; and by shrinking key habitats on which animals depend. As Strona's research showed(opens in new tab), climate change can also have indirect effects that ripple through an ecosystem. He and his team built several model Earths incorporating over 15,000 food webs to represent the connections of many thousand terrestrial vertebrate species. Then, they simulated various climate and land-use change scenarios in these ecosystems. Their simulations showed that when climate change directly caused the loss of one species, it resulted in a cascading loss of several species that depend on that one species for food, pollination or other ecosystem services. This domino-like effect, known as "co-extinction," will drive the bulk of terrestrial vertebrate species diversity declines under projected climate change, the research predicts. Because the study didn't model the impact of climate change on communities of insects or plants, these findings are likely also optimistic, Strona said. The huge complexity of animal relationships within natural ecosystems, plus the uncertainty over how extreme climate change will get, makes it difficult to drill down into such data and pinpoint which animals will do better than others as our world warms. However, Strona's research did pick up on a general trend: "What we found is that larger species and species at high trophic [food chain] levels will be more adversely affected," he told Live Science. So animals with lower positions in the food chain, such as insects or rodents, may fare better in a warming world. Related: What would happen to Earth if humans went extinct? Adaptable animals Larger species tend to reproduce more slowly, and that's another clue researchers have connected to climate vulnerability. Another recent study, published in the journal Global Change Biology(opens in new tab), looked at 461 animal species across six continents and analyzed the disruptive effects of historical land-use and temperature changes on their po[CENSORED]tions. "What we found in our study is that species that breed really fast are really good at exploiting new habitats — taking energy and transforming it into offspring," study lead author Gonzalo Albaladejo Robles(opens in new tab), a conservation biologist at University College London, told Live Science. Faster breeding may benefit species in a changing climate because they're more adaptable to changing habitats; fast breeding cycles give these species an "opportunity to survive these peaks in environmental disruption," such as extreme weather or habitat loss, Albaladejo Robles explained. Meanwhile, slower-breeding animals showed the opposite trend in the study, and their po[CENSORED]tions declined when temperature and habitat changed. link: https://www.livescience.com/which-animals-will-survive-climate-change

The $31,590 GT model with its 268-hp turbo-four will arrive first, but you'll have to wait for the 288-hp R/T plug-in hybrid that starts at $41,590. Dodge has announced pricing for the 2023 Hornet, a new subcompact crossover that starts at $31,590. A fully loaded Hornet R/T plug-in hybrid costs over $53,000. It's based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale and will go on sale in the U.S. this spring. UPDATE 2/21/23: Dodge has clarified that the Hornet makes more horsepower than the original estimates claimed. The turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four in the GT makes 268 horsepower, not 265 hp, and the plug-in-hybrid system in the R/T produces 288 hp, not 285 hp. We have updated this story accordingly. $53,000 sounds like a lot for a Dodge subcompact SUV, but what if that SUV is based on an Alfa Romeo and offers a plug-in-hybrid powertrain? Dodge is hoping that the new 2023 Hornet, which is closely related to the Alfa Romeo Tonale, will be enticing enough to live up to its ambitious pricing—at least in fully loaded form—when it goes on sale this spring. There's also a more reasonably priced base model that starts under $32,000 and is powered by a turbocharged inline-four. That base model is the 268-hp Hornet GT, which starts at $31,590 and comes standard with a 10.3-inch touchscreen, cloth seats, 17-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and more. The $4900 GT Plus upgrade adds leather seats that are heated and cooled up front, a sunroof, a power liftgate, navigation, and more. There are also packages including the $2995 Track Pack with larger wheels and tires, adaptive dampers, and upgraded interior trim; the $1995 Blacktop package with dark trim; and the $2245 Tech Pack with driver-assistance features. The Hornet R/T is the one with the 288-hp plug-in-hybrid drivetrain that claims to be quicker than the GT and offers an estimated 30 miles of electric driving. It starts at $41,590—a mere $3000 less than its Alfa Romeo sibling, which only comes as a PHEV. The R/T Plus adds equipment and starts at $46,590 and is available with the same options and packages as the GT, which explains how you can get above $53,000 if you add all the extras. Dodge says that orders are now open for the Hornet GT and that those models will start arriving at dealerships in early spring. The Hornet R/T hybrid will follow a few months after, and ordering information will be available later on. link: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a42941392/2023-dodge-hornet-pricing/

The county gets famously full in summer, but out of season it comes into its own as the roads quieten and the surf roars on its empty beaches The empty sands of Sennen Cove sweep invitingly before us – the pristine beach shaded by a spectacular headland at the southwesterly tip of England. It’s a breathtaking spot for a day by the sea. Then the sun breaks through and the whoops of children surfing in the waves add to the atmosphere. The hardcore wetsuited family are the only people in sight, as the temperature remains stubbornly close to zero, with added windchill factor. It is the first week in January, and we have come for a holiday to the rugged coast of Cornwall. You might ask why. The county is not known for winter holidays, with most tourists and second-home owners descending in their droves during the summer months, cramming themselves into all available cottages and campsites. But holidaying at this time of year offers the kind of peace that we long for after the excesses of December. And that’s the mindset we travel with, packing enough Christmas toys, games and books to make the most of any enforced downtime, but with the usual beach apparatus, wellies and an enthusiasm for brisk walks that will ensure we don’t waste our time on the stunning coastline. For the first couple of days, we book into The Old Coastguard, a beautifully renovated Victorian hotel jutting out on the rocks of Mousehole fishing village. We have the family room up in the gods, painted in sunshine yellow with Aztec-style carpet runners and blue-hued furnishings. The room’s bright decor contrasts with the stormy weather, but – unlike in the summer months, where a rainy day can spoil carefully laid plans – we embrace the cosiness of the hotel, throw ourselves at the local arcade and let the children alternate between playing with their remote-control cars on empty beaches and turning their adjoining bedroom into a nightclub with the bedside radio. We have plenty of peaceful moments to take in the view from the window seat. As the light begins to fade, stormy expanse outside, we head down into the hotel’s dining room, the roaring fire welcoming us into the long, gloomy night that lies ahead. There are enough guests extending their New Year’s Eve break to make for a pleasant atmosphere, without the elbow-sharpened hustle that can sometimes dictate summer holiday evening meals in busy venues. We load up on plates of fresh hake and a bavette tartare, before wrapping up and heading out into the night to have a look at the po[CENSORED]r Christmas lights in the harbour. Others are doing the same, stopping to admire the large cat or the sea monster peeking out of the water, before ascending up into the village along its steep paths to complete the tour. Next is a drive on quiet roads to Cove Cottage, overlooking the sugary sands of Sennen Cove. It is during this part of the break, with what feels like one of the UK’s best beaches to ourselves, when the rain backs off and we can really lean into the crisp, clear days. We join an organised beach clean – all four of us learning how to spot and remove microplastics in the engaging company of Emily Stevenson and her father, Rob, who together founded Beach Guardian. It is impossible to think, as we look across the clear expanse of Sennen beach that we will find any rubbish but, to the children’s delight, we fill buckets with multi-coloured treasure. link: https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2023/feb/21/cornwall-winter-out-of-season-family-holiday-england

The US will back Ukraine in its fight against Russia for "as long as it takes", US President Joe Biden has said on an unannounced visit to Kyiv. "We have every confidence you're going to continue to prevail," he said. Mr Biden's first trip to Ukraine as president came days before the first anniversary of Russia's invasion. He said that Russia's President Vladimir Putin had been "dead wrong" to think Russia could outlast Ukraine and its Western allies. He met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the pair visited a memorial to soldiers who have died in the nine years since Russia annexed Crimea and its proxy forces captured parts of the eastern Donbas region. Mr Biden's presence was intended to reaffirm America's "unwavering commitment to Ukraine's democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity", according to a White House statement. He had taken a 10-hour train journey from Poland to reach Kyiv in secret, later returning to Poland. Russia was informed about the trip a few hours before President Biden's departure for "deconfliction purposes", a US official said. After the visit, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced a new package of security assistance for Ukraine valued at $450m (£373m), including ammunition for howitzers and the Himars rocket system, Javelin missiles and air surveillance radars. The US will also provide Kyiv with an extra $10m in emergency assistance to maintain Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Mr Blinken said. A new wave of sanctions against individuals and companies "that are trying to evade or backfill Russia's war machine" will also be announced later this week. Mr Zelensky said Ukraine's victory over Russia depended on resolve and that he saw such determination in Mr Biden. "It is now and in Ukraine that the fate of the world order, which is based on rules, on humanity... is being decided," he said. He also said that the two leaders had discussed the possibility of sending other weapons. Mr Zelensky has repeatedly called for F-16 fighter jets, something the US and other allies have so far stopped short of approving. Commenting on the trip, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said failure would befall those who, as she put it, "sold their souls to the Americans". In a scene that added drama to the most high-profile visit to Ukraine since the war began, air raid sirens wailed while President Biden and Mr Zelensky were in St Michael's Cathedral in central Kyiv. The sirens sound regularly in the city. While other world leaders have visited Ukraine over the past year, the US president's appearance in Kyiv during a war in which American soldiers are not fighting is a show of unity at a time when Russia says Western support for Ukraine is waning. The visit was welcomed by Ukrainians in Kyiv. "I'm so grateful for his support - it means so much to us," Roksoliana Gera told the BBC. "I appreciate his courage, that he took on this challenge and came to show the support of the American nation." Oleksandra Soloviova said the visit showed Russia that "the US supports us and will continue supporting us, with sanctions and military equipment". The Ukrainian president's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, said the visit had been strategic as well as historic. "Many issues are being solved and those that have stalled will be accelerated," he said. The US is one of Ukraine's biggest allies and the state department has so far announced $24.9bn in military assistance. In January, Mr Biden announced that the US would send 31 battle tanks and longer-range missiles are also on their way. However, there is a growing political divide in the US over the amount of aid Kyiv should receive in future. President Biden's visit to Kyiv came ahead of a three-day visit to Poland where he will meet the country's President, Andrzej Duda, and east European members of the Nato military alliance. In another development, China's foreign minister has said Beijing is deeply worried by the escalation of the war in Ukraine and the danger it could spiral out of control. "We will continue to urge peace and promote talks and provide Chinese wisdom for a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine," Qin Gang told a forum in Beijing. "Together with the international community, we will jointly promote dialogue, negotiate and address the concerns of all parties and seek common security. In the meantime, we urge certain countries to immediately stop fuelling the fire, stop shifting the blame to China and stop hyping up Ukraine today, Taiwan tomorrow." link: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-64702548

The North African country is set to pay Spain the same rate as other countries for gas, including France and Portugal. Rabat - The Spanish government expects Morocco to pay an annual fee of €2 million for access to Spanish regasification facilities. Spanish media said that the Spanish government announced the news in a parliamentary response to the Po[CENSORED]r Party. Spanish news outlet The Objective recalled Morocco’s request to allow the possibility of transporting regasified gas from Spanish facilities to the North African country through the Maghreb Europe gas pipeline. The rate Morocco is paying Spain is similar to what other countries pay for the European country’s regasification facilities, including France and Portugal. The request came after Algeria’s decision to terminate the pipeline contract that supplied Spain with gas through Morocco in 2021, amid the ongoing diplomatic rift between Rabat and Algiers. To this end, Morocco made a deal with Spain to use the country as a transition destination for natural liquified gas. Reports said that since the deal came into effect, around 1,882 gigawatts per hour of gas have been transferred through the pipeline until mid-January, news outlet La Razon reported. According to Spanish news outlet ABC, LNG imports have increased at an exponential rate since June 2022. The report, however, said that the gas output has reached 536 gigawatts per hour as of January 2023. Gas imports continue to pose a challenge to Morocco’s economy. Morocco’s gas subsidies reached MAD 22 billion or $2.1 billion at the end of last year. The number goes against previously projected figures that were estimated at $965.9 million. The North African country’s energy price shock has been extended to fuel prices, which are estimated at MAD 13 and MAD 14 per liter compared to their previous prices (MAD 9 and MAD 10). The skyrocketing prices sparked outrage among citizens, weighing down their purchasing power. Amid their frustration, many complained about lack of action from the government to tackle the situation. link: https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2023/02/354142/access-to-spains-regasification-facilities-to-cost-morocco-euro-2-million-annually

A minister has said he hopes there will be no more big projects like the current Heads of the Valleys roadworks. Improvements to the A465 between Neath and Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, have been ongoing for years and still continue. They include the dualling of sections and a new bridge near Merthyr Tydfil. Deputy Climate Change Minister Lee Waters said it was "causing huge disruption and environmental damage" and "not the answer to our problems". On Tuesday, Mr Waters announced the scrapping of all major road building projects due to environmental concerns. It followed a year-long review and formed part of the Welsh government's National Transport Plan. Roads review ignored citizens, ex-minister says Plans to axe new bridge an 'insult' to locals All future roads must not raise carbon emissions, increase the number of cars on the road, lead to higher speeds or negatively affect the environment. Mr Waters told the BBC Walescast podcast that the Heads of the Valleys road scheme would not have passed those tests. Asked if the road was the last project of such scale that would be built in Wales, he said: "Of that design? Yes. I do hope so. Because it's not the answer to our problems. "And it's costing a billion pounds. And it's causing huge disruption and environmental damage right across the Heads of the Valleys. "So, I'm not sure that should be the poster child for road building." 'Economic development opportunities' Mr Waters instead highlighted the Burns Commission, set up to find alternatives to scrapped plans for an M4 relief road around Newport. "One of their proposals is turning an existing main road and having a bus corridor, an active travel corridor and a road corridor side-by-side," he said. "So you're still building roads but you're building a road which is designed to do something different. "It's designed to make it as easy - if not easier - to jump on a bus. "So when you're making that decision, 'how do I get to work?', you don't automatically think I have to jump in the car, because I couldn't get there otherwise. That's the reality we have to shift." Economy Minister Vaughan Gething has made more positive noises about the impact of the work on the A465 this week. He told BBC Wales the road "opened up significant economic development opportunities for valleys communities". "And we've recognised in the government's response to the review, that we want to make sure that economic development can still take place in different parts of Wales," he added. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-politics-64675461
