  1. NEW DELHI : India’s auto parts makers recorded a 34.6% decline in revenue in the fiscal first half from a year earlier as production came to a halt due to the nationwide lockdown, showed data issued on Wednesday by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (Acma). The sector, however, reported a swift turnaround in the second and third quarters as automobile production improved to record levels before the festive season. Also Read: How schooling in rural India is plunging into darkness Revenue in the six months ended 30 September fell to ₹1.19 trillion from ₹1.82 trillion a year earlier, according to Acma. Component imports declined too—probably as a result of the union government’s push for automakers to use locally-made parts. In the fiscal first half, component exports fell by 23.6% to ₹39,003 crore, while imports also dropped by 32.7% to ₹37,710 crore. The recently-announced production linked incentive (PLI) scheme might help the sector maintain the export surplus status in the coming years, analysts said. According to Deepak Jain, president of Acma, the component industry’s performance has improved manifold after the lockdown measures were lifted and the industry expects significant recovery in demand in the next fiscal year. Despite the swift recovery, the auto component industry will take around four years to match the revenues of FY19 when it touched a record. “Inventory levels after the festive season is low and production forecast in December is also lower because of the planned factory shutdowns. Demand going forward will soften but it will be sustainable. Now, it will be dependent on whether there will be covid-related disruptions but overall, there will be good momentum in demand in rural and urban markets," said Jain. He said the PLI scheme will help the auto component sector become export surplus on a sustainable basis in the coming years. To be sure, senior executives in leading automakers such as Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and Bajaj Auto Ltd have aired concerns about the softening of demand after December. Increased commodity prices and scarcity of components such as semi-conductors may also derail recovery in the financials of most component manufacturers. Higher commodity prices are also likely to impact their operating profits and margins. Vehicle manufacturers and their parts suppliers have been witnessing continuous decline in sales from the second half of FY19 due to the economic slowdown and increase in vehicle prices following the transition to new safety and Bharat Stage VI emission norms. In FY20, vehicle sales fell 15-25% across categories, worsening from a low single-digit growth in FY19. “The component industry is hopeful that the PLI scheme will help the sector grow in the future. During the covid crisis, not a single member of Acma went bankrupt or lost their business. Measures announced by the government like moratorium on repayment of interest on loans also helped companies a lot. In the coming quarters, we expect demand in the commercial vehicle industry to come back. As of now, overall demand has come back and none of the manufacturers are complaining," said Vinnie Mehta, director general, Acma.

  3. (CNN)On the same day that he -- finally -- acknowledged President-elect Joe Biden's victory, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell began to grapple with the first leadership test of the coming Congress: Convincing his Republican colleagues not to formally object to the Electoral College results on January 6. According to Politico, McConnell told his conference that such a move would force every single one of them into a "terrible vote" in which they would have to go on the record in affirming that President Donald Trump did indeed lose the November election. And, McConnell argued, such a vote would enrage Trump. Which is true! After all, Trump lashed out at McConnell early Wednesday morning simply because the Kentucky Republican admitted, after the official Electoral College vote on Monday, that Biden had won (again) and Trump had lost. "Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot)," tweeted Trump. "Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!" Imagine what Trump would do if the Republican-controlled Senate was forced to vote on Biden winning! That, at least at the moment, remains a real possibility. Here's why.In order for there to be a vote in both chambers on the election results, at least one House member and one senator would have to raise an objection to the Electoral College count. That is a certainty in the House, where Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, among other Trump loyalists, has already signaled his plan to do so. On Tuesday night, in the wake of the news about McConnell's warning to his colleagues, Brooks lashed out via Twitter. He wrote: "A republic is nothing without honest & accurate elections. Heroic patriots fought & died to give America a republic. Media reports Senate ducks election fraud theft ...because it requires a 'terrible vote'??!! I can only hope that is 'Fake News'." McConnell's challenge, then, is to keep any Republican senator from joining Brooks' effort. And while he has proven to be a master Senate strategist over the years -- there's a reason no one challenges him for the top spot in the GOP conference -- this is won't be an easy task. Several Trump-aligned senators have made clear that they are still considering objecting to the Electoral College results come January 6. Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville, who will be sworn in on January 6 and could bring a challenge, is weighing making just such a move, according to his campaign chairman. "I don't know yet if or when he'll do it," his Tuberville campaign chairman Stan McDonald told a Huntsville radio station. "I do know that he's very seriously considering it." Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who Trump beat in the 2016 primary but has emerged as one of the President's most loyal defenders, has also been vocal in his desire to take a wait and see approach to the possibility of an election challenge in January. "There are multiple lawsuits raising allegations of fraud and irregularities in this election," Cruz told The Washington Post on December 10. "We need to allow the judicial process to work its way through and resolve those claims." While the Supreme Court rejected the Texas lawsuit designed for invalidating the election results in several swing states the following day, Cruz has yet to acknowledge Biden won or reject the possibility of a formal challenge to the results. Sens. Rand Paul (Kentucky) and Josh Hawley (Missouri) are seen as potential supporters of an election challenge as well. The issue for McConnell is that he is asking some of these Republican senators to go directly against their own political interests here. For Hawley and Cruz, the party base remains, quite clearly, behind Trump despite his loss. Which means that if you want to run for president in 2024 -- as both men do -- there's zero political gain in sitting on the sidelines and, potentially, a major upside for being the one willing to stand up and fight for Trump. Ditto Tuberville who was elected in no small part due to Trump's advocacy for him (and against former Trump administration Attorney General Jeff Sessions). Given Trump's continued po[CENSORED]rity in Alabama, there's unlikely to be a price paid by Tuberville for formally objecting to the results. What McConnell is asking, then, is for Republican senators, at least in some cases, to go against their own political interests in order to protect the class of senators up in 2022 who really don't want their first vote of the next Congress to be one against Trump. (McConnell apparently isn't even trying to appeal to senators' sense of doing what's right -- since Biden quite clearly won the election fair and square.) That's a big ask. And one that even someone as gifted a persuader as McConnell may be hard-pressed to successfully make.
  4. Get ready for another good year for software stocks in 2021. But you might need to be pickier. That’s the view of Mizuho Securities analyst Gregg Moskowitz, who on Wednesday provided his outlook on 2021 across the 44 enterprise software stocks he and his team follow. Moskowitz notes that in calendar 2020, the enterprise software group produced revenue growth of about 20% on average, down from 27% in 2019, as the pandemic had a negative impact on the industry overall. He sees 2021 growth rates of about 19% on average, roughly flat with this year, but adds that given easier comparisons and expectations of an economic recovery, growth is likely to reaccelerate. This year’s stock performance by the group will be hard to match. Moskowitz writes that in 2020, the software sector has provided strong returns, with the companies underpinning the transition to working from home for hundreds of millions of employees and students. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector exchange-traded fund (ticker: IGV), which tracks an index of software stocks, is up 47% year to date, topping the 40% return on the Nasdaq Composite and crushing the 14% gain by the S&P 500. He notes that 2019 and 2020 together represent the only period in which the IGV index gained at 30% in consecutive years. (The next-best period was 2009-10, as the world emerged from the global recession.) Moskowitz notes that as a result, valuations are nearing 10-year peak levels. Nonetheless, he argues that the group merits a premium to historical norms given an assortments of megatrends and an industrywide transition to recurring-revenue business models. “The software sector as a whole remains, perhaps uniquely, well-positioned to weather any lingering economic symptoms of the virus, due to its increasingly low-touch, cloud-delivered, recurring business model, and a range of products that have never been more valuable,” he writes. ”Still, given the unusually strong levels of outperformance for the software sector over the past couple of years, we believe the 2021 returns will likely be more moderate.” The report includes the firm’s top eight picks for 2021, all Buy-rated: Salesforce.com (CRM): “With a best-in-class cloud platform, we believe Salesforce is ideally situated to help its vast customer base manage revenue and process optimization via digital transformation.” CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD): “The shares have more runway, fueled by [the company’s] highly differentiated cloud platform, robust net new [customer] growth, rapidly growing multi-module adoption, and an emerging cloud workload protection opportunity.” Palo Alto Networks (PANW): “We’re impressed with the substantial progress of [the company’s] cloud-based subscription business, including an expectation for the Cloud and AI segment to grow ~90% this year.” RingCentral (RNG): “RingCentral signed several significant partnerships over the last 12+ months, and we believe those should begin to materially impact growth in 2021.” Intuit (INTU): “While investors were concerned about Intuit’s exposure to SMBs [small and medium-size businesses] after the pandemic hit, our discussions and analysis suggest the SMB economy is recovering well.” LivePerson (LPSN): “LivePerson’s conversation volume is up ~50% since February, driven in part by pandemic tailwinds, and these volumes have continued to accelerate to their highest levels to date in October and November. We view these volumes as durable, as they are backed by an ongoing shift towards automation.” Autodesk (ADSK): “Continues to benefit from a ramping subscription model, with increasing contribution from new and renewing subscriber cohorts, which should provide the company with a strong multi-year tailwind.” PTC (PTC): “We view PTC’s best-in-class IIoT [industrial internet of things] and AR [augmented reality] platforms as highly strategic for manufacturers. Furthermore, we expect a meaningful increase in demand for these technologies by manufacturers in 2021 following an incredibly disruptive period which has brought the long-term benefits of digital transformation into sharp focus.” The firm also advised staying away from these Neutral-rated stocks: Check Point Software Technologies (CHKP): “Check Point’s large and generally stable installed base should yield roughly low-single digit growth over the next couple of years, in our view. However, ongoing competitive pressures and the potential for continued margin compression give us pause.” Ping Identity Holding (PING): “Modest COVID-related headwinds to Ping’s business may persist for some time, which in turn could limit fundamental upside.” Splunk (SPLK): “We are concerned that Splunk’s weak fiscal third quarter results could point to deeper execution issues, and potentially some competitive pressures, that could take time to resolve.” Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD): “Given the lack of clarity around the progress of integrating [recently acquired] Saba, combined with new management, we recommend staying on the sidelines until the company makes progress with the integration.” Mizuho analysts adjusted price targets Wednesday for 15 stocks: 8x8 (EGHT) to $25, from $17 Atlassian (TEAM) to $250, from $240 Ceridian HCM Holding (CDAY) to $110, from $100 CrowdStrike to $205, from $190 HubSpot (HUBS) to 360, from $330 Fortinet (FTNT) to $140, from $130 Palo Alto Networks to $360, from $310 Paycom Software (PAYC) to $400, from, $330 Paylocity Holding (PCTY) to $175, from $160 PTC to $130, from $105 RingCentral to $400, from $350 ServiceNow (NOW) to $600, from $570 Snowflake (SNOW) to $350, from $310 ZoomInfo Technologies (ZI) to $53, from $63 Write to Eric J. 5. Those who have been living under a rock for the past few years might not be as familiar with Glorious PC Gaming Race, so here's a quick refresher. As we'll refer to them from now on, they are a bit of the smaller guys who have made a huge impact in the PC peripheral space since stepping onto the scene in 2014. They've gone on to make what is one of the most recognizable gaming mice with the Model O, an amazing ambidextrous gaming mouse that caters to the ultralight enthusiast. Their goal was to bring affordable enthusiast-grade gear to the market, and so far, they've nailed it. Today we'll be looking at the new Glorious Model D-, an ergonomic take on their iconic design with RGB flare and more to go along with it. Did they nail it? Glorious Model D-: Bright and Light The Glorious Model D- markets itself as a slightly smaller version of the Model D, so if you've got a bit larger hands, you might want to go that route, but both will share the same characteristics otherwise. Favoring somewhere between a palm grip and claw grip, the ergonomic shape is limited entirely to right-handed users. Featuring Glorious' Ascended Cord, you'll find this one so amazing lightweight you'll forget you're tethered. The packaging of the Glories Model D- is pretty solid, thick cardboard and a presentation that is reminiscent of the NVIDIA Founders Edition boxes where the top slides off to review a good look at the mouse itself. All the extra goodies are hidden under the bottom plastic mold and include a quick start guide, a trove of stickers, and an extra set of skates, which is a welcome addition for any enthusiast mouse. The left and right buttons on the Model D- are by Omron and rated for 20 million clicks. While optical-mechanical switches are becoming more common by the big guys in the market, these Omron switches are no slouches. They have a good solid tactile click, aren't too heavy to where you'll wear your fingers out in an MMO but not so light you'll misfire in that heated shooter match. The scroll wheel is excellent on this mouse, very smooth yet clearly felt when hitting a new step. Comfortable to grip while in-game thanks to the rubber coating's need notches and are flanked by nice soft RGB lighting. The side navigation buttons are often left to just whatever switches are found lying about, but not here as they're just as satisfying to click as the main left and right mouse buttons, nice work on those. For the sensor, Glorious went for the PixArt PMW-3360 with a rated DPI up to 12,000 but comes pre-programmed with 4 steps through the DPI button found in between the mouse buttons; 400, 800, 1600, and 3200. You can remap it but need to install the software to do so; the software isn't required for the plug and plays operation. Throughout about 10 hours of playing Cyberpunk 2077, I never felt any hiccups with the mouse, the game itself is a bit of a different story. The Glorious Model D- is quite the package I didn't expect it to be. Usually, I expect the smaller outfits like Glorious to let their packaging quality slide to help on margins, and they did not. I expect to find some areas that lack polish, and I did not. There isn't much that I can complain about here because the Model D- delivers on every possible angle they sell it on, except one. The only thing I can complain about is that my pinky has a bit of trouble gripping the mouse when I need to lift it. Normal navigation is ultra-comfortable, but when I have to lift, I lose grip on it. Thankfully Glorious has grip tape for the Model D and D- incoming, and I'll be first in line to get me some of that grippy goodness because it's the only thing keeping this from being my daily driver at this point. *Note on purchasing, buy direct as resell site seem to be marking up this mouse unnecessarily.
  6. 34BigThings has announced that its space-based prequel to futuristic racer Redout is coming to Switch (and PC and other consoles) in January. Redout: Space Assault has been available on Apple Arcade since October 2019 and was first rumoured for Switch when it was outed by the Taiwanese ratings board back in July, but it's now got a solid release date: 22nd January 2021. This prequel to the Nicalis-published racing game which came to Switch in May 2019 is a single-player sci-fi shooter that combines the speed and skill of racing with the guns and gameplay of a cosmic dogfighter. It includes the ability to customise your vehicle and also features something that no space-based shooter (or any other game, for that matter) should be without these days: a smattering of roguelike elements. The story will apparently delve into the reasoning behind the races from the first game. Those of you who haven't sampled its space combat delights via Apple Arcade can get a good idea of what's in store from the announcement trailer above. Here's a look at some of the features highlighted in the official PR blurb, as well as some high-res screenshots to enjoy: Career Mode: Learn every skill you need to survive and triumph in the Redout universe. Drop and swap Cards to improve specific aspects of your ship and better fit your style. Music for Your Ears: An entirely dynamic soundtrack that drops ever-sicker beats as the action heats up! No word on price yet, but we love a nice slice of space combat around these parts, so we'll be keeping a close eye on this. Did you enjoy the original race-based Redout? Looking forward to this space shooter spin on the formula? Feel free to let us know below and congratulate us heartily for not mentioning barrel rolls until the very end.

  9. Earlier this year, Google finally opened up Android Auto to third-party navigation apps. Now, the first of those apps is finally available. Sygic has just added support for Android Auto, at least in beta. Available now through the Play Store, Sygic has added support for Android Auto in a beta version of the app. With that update, Sygic becomes the first third-party app to support Google’s platform, as for the longest time, only Google Maps and Waze have been available to users. Sygic is a hugely po[CENSORED]r mapping service with over 50 million downloads on the Google Play Store alone. The service offers GPS-based navigation globally, of course, but also supports user reports for traffic cameras and even some AR features in parts of Europe. Sygic also supports additional offline features that Google Maps does not. The Sygic beta program is open to anyone through the Play Store, meaning getting the navigation service up and running on Android Auto is only a couple of taps and an update away! Hopefully, this functionality will move to the stable track sooner rather than later. 10. Between self-isolation, working from home and many businesses and facilities being closed, the coronavirus has resulted in more sedentary lifestyles for many. That’s led to both emotional and physical impacts on people. However, there’s a solution: small changes can help offset those impacts. “Obviously [COVID-19] has changed our behavior in many ways,” said James Graves, professor of Exercise, Health and Sport Sciences at University of Southern Maine. “Physical activity is just one aspect of our daily lives that’s been impacted.” Graves noted that even under the best circumstances, relatively few people meet the recommended levels of daily physical activity. The pandemic has only made this worse as gathering restrictions have further limited opportunities to exercise in yoga classes, group fitness classes or even at the gym or community center. A study published in August 2020 by researchers at The Chinese University of Hong Kong showed low physical activity levels, high amount of time spent on sedentary behaviors and long sleep duration in young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic, with less than half of the participants meeting any of the recommended guidelines for physical activity, sedentary behavior or sleep. The impacts of a sedentary lifestyle Sustained physical inactivity and sedentary behavior have been linked with poor physical and mental health and increased disease-specific morbidity and mortality risk. As a group, Graves said that these conditions are called “hypokinetic diseases.” “We’re talking about things like heart disease, obesity, hypertension, hypercholesterol [and] osteoporosis,” Graves said. Many of these conditions develop over a long period of time, but even a short period of exposure to a sedentary lifestyle can impact your health. A 2019 study from the University of Texas at Austin showed that reduction in daily steps from about 10,000 to 1,500 steps for a two week period impaired insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism, increased visceral fat and decreased fat-free mass and cardiovascular fitness in healthy adults. Perhaps more troublingly, incorporating exercising back into your routine after a period of even four days of inactivity could not counteract all the negative effects. The results are even more troubling for older people. A 2018 study from McMaster University showed that reducing daily steps to fewer than 1,500 — similar to the activity level of people who are housebound during this pandemic — for just two weeks can reduce an older person’s insulin sensitivity by as much as one-third. The same period of inactivity also led to individuals over age 65 losing as much as four percent of their leg muscle. Even when the research subjects returned to their normal daily routines, they did not regain their lost muscle. At a more extreme level, Jay Polsgrove, associate professor and coordinator of the Exercise Science Program at Husson University, said that scientists have seen similar impacts when looking at the impacts of extended periods of bed rest. “You’re advancing the aging process,” Polsgrove said. “Everything that happens with aging — increased blood pressure, increased body weight, decreased bone density [and] muscle volume — all of those things are happening at a much faster rate. It’s really hard to recover from that. The same thing is happening at home. You’re not in bed rest per se but you’re pretty much just sitting there in a small room, not being as active.” Younger people also experience negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle. A 2020 study from the University of Southern California found that short-term changes in physical activity and sedentary behavior in reaction to COVID-19 may become permanently entrenched, leading to increased risk of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease in children. Some scientists even worry that the sedentary lifestyle of the pandemic could impact fertility. Sedentary behaviour has been associated with increased leptin, which can decrease fertility and pregnancy rates. A 2016 study from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health showed that 90 minutes or more of aerobic physical activity per week resulted in a higher likelihood of live birth in women undergoing fertility treatment compared to inactive women. What you can do about it Incorporating physical activity back into your life is essential to combatting the impacts of the sedentary COVID-19 lifestyle. Graves recommended 30 minutes of moderately vigorous physical activity every day of the week. “If you are out for a walk for the purposes of improving your health you’re going to want to walk at a vigorous pace. The rule of thumb is if you’re out walking and you’re breathing heavy but you can still carry on a conversation, that’s probably the right level of intensity,” Graves said. At the bare minimum, Polsgrove said that even 10 to 15 minutes two times per week is enough to maintain your body’s fitness if you are “just trying not to go into decline.” “You won’t feel like you’re getting lots of exercise in but at that point you’re just trying to maintain things a bit,” Polsgrove said. Finding a way to get exercise outdoors — even in the winter — is also good for your mental health. “The recommendation I would make is don’t hesitate to go out and exercise just because it’s getting a little chilly,” Graves said. “Just prepare for it. Dress for the weather. If you’re someone with a busy schedule make sure you plan for it because the days are getting shorter. The opportunity to get outdoors in the daylight and exercise is reduced, but there are still things you can do and a lot of nice facilities in Maine to participate in outdoor recreation in the wintertime.” Polsgrove noted that working out with a mask, which is now required in all indoor and outdoor settings, can present a challenge for some people. “There’s a whole other issue with wearing something on your face doing cardiovascular activity,” Polsgrove said. “I personally can’t do it [because] it feels like I’m suffocating. Not only are you restricting the ability to pull the air in and out, you’re breathing in your own air a lot more and you’re not going to get the same training effect.” There are plenty of things you can do from the comfort of your home as well. Polsgrove recommended setting up a designated exercise space in your house, or making a ritual of setting up the space before you start your daily regimen. Small goals can also help, he said, as can working out with a partner. Polsgrove and Graves both also recommended seeking out new kinds of workouts on YouTube and other online platforms to keep things interesting. “Now might be a good time to start a yoga routine or tai chi or pilates something like that, especially if it gets a little too chilly and you’re a little adverse to going out in the cold,” Graves said. “There are a lot of things you can do in the comfort of your own home that are very healthy.”
  11. OTTAWA - The latest news on COVID-19 developments in Canada (all times eastern): 2 p.m. Nunavut is reporting another two cases of COVID-19. The territory says the new cases are in Arviat. All of Nunavut’s 45 active cases are in the community, which is located on the western shore of Hudson Bay. The territory had not had any cases at all until early November. Manitoba health officials are reporting 271 new COVID-19 cases and nine new deaths. The percentage of people testing positive remains high, but officials say transmission rates are down because of restrictions imposed last month on public gatherings. --- 1 p.m. The first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador Tuesday morning. In a tweeted video, Premier Andrew Furey and Health Minister John Haggie are shown walking arm in arm toward a plane in St. John’s as the precious cargo is unloaded. In the video, Furey says vaccinations will begin on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the province reported one new case of COVID-19 Tuesday and officials say the infection is related to travel. --- 12:45 p.m. Public health officials in New Brunswick are reporting one new case of COVID-19 today. The case is person in their 40s in the Edmundston region who is self-isolating and the case is under investigation. There have been eight deaths and the number of active cases is 47. Three patients are hospitalized, of whom two are in intensive care. --- 11:50 a.m. Canada’s vaccine advisory panel says more testing is needed before COVID-19 vaccines should routinely be offered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, kids under 16, or patients with compromised immune systems. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization is encouraging vaccine-makers to expand clinical trials to include more study of their products in those groups. But the committee’s experts also say if there is evidence the benefits of getting the vaccine outweigh the potential risks of COVID-19, it could be offered to pregnant women, children as young as 12, or people who are immunosuppressed, with informed consent.
  12. Microsoft has confirmed that its dual-screened Surface Duo smartphone is coming to the UK in early 2021. In a blog post, the company announced that along with the UK, the Surface Duo will also be available in Canada, France and Germany from early next year, following its US launch in August. A Microsoft Surface Duo Business Edition, which ships with pre-installed Microsoft 365 apps, will also be launching in the aforementioned countries. Check out our full Microsoft Surface Duo review These are the best Android phones of 2020 so far Foldable phones: all the confirmed and rumored foldable handsets Exact release dates and pricing have not yet been confirmed, although Windows Latest reports that UK carriers BT and EE are planning to sell the Surface Duo once it officially launches. As well as announcing expansion plans, Microsoft revealed that TikTok has released an “Enhanced” app for the dual-screen devices that will allow users to “optimise their experience es across two screens” For the uninitiated, the Microsoft Surface Duo is an Android-powered "communication device" that boasts two 5.6-inch displays split by a visible hinge. Unfolded, the Duo stretches to 8.3 inches – which is just larger than the iPad Mini 5 with its 7.9-inch display. Unlike other foldable devices, the Duo can be bent beyond a flat 180 degrees to a full 360 degrees, which allows a front-to-back glass experience. The device boasts mediocre specs elsewhere; you'll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6GB RAM and support for 4G networks only. For those of you in the US, the Surface Duo is on sale right now for $200 below its usual price. It can be picked up starting at $1,200 through the Microsoft Store and Best Buy. 13. Igor over at Igor's Lab has just leaked the date for NVIDIA's upcoming RTX 3080 Ti graphics card. This is the most anxiously anticipated card of NVIDIA's RTX 3000 lineup considering it has the full 20 GB vRAM buffer (unlike the 10GB buffer on the 3080) and is expected to be the "true" flagship considering the 3090 is basically a replacement for the Titan. While Igor has been rock solid in the past, please keep in mind that NVIDIA's launch schedules are vulnerable to Jensen changing his mind and other supply and demand factors - so take launch dates with a grain of salt. Igor: RTX 3060 will come in 6GB and 12GB flavors. According to Igor, the RTX 3080 Ti will be landing in February of 2021 while the RTX 3060 is going to be landing early in January 2021. This makes sense because the RTX 3060 is slated to be the budget king for NVIDIA's lineup and should be the one that users will want to buy in large volumes. That said, we are unsure of the state of NVIDIA's supply lines because as of a few weeks ago, there was no visibility as to when the company will be able to catch up to demand. Even more, interestingly, Igor mentions that the RTX 3060 will come in a 6GB and 12GB flavor. If this is true then it would seriously depreciate the value of a 10GB RTX 3080. I complained about the 10GB buffer at the very start - as it is definitely not enough for a 2020 lineup of games that are based on asset streaming. Who knows, NVIDIA might decide to give the RTX 3080 the 20GB treatment as well once they have enough spare GDDR6 memory in stock. Recap: The RTX 3080 Ti 20GB The NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti was originally supposed to be based on the PG132 SKU20 (although NVIDIA decided to rename it) and has been in the pipeline for quite some time. While the exact CUDA core count is not yet confirmed, it will have twice the amount of memory when compared to the vanilla RTX 3080. To be clear, even the nomenclature is not confirmed as the SUPER suffix could appear anywhere in the name should Jensen deem it so. We highly recommend users (that want to buy an NVIDIA card) to go for the RTX 3090 (if they can afford it) or wait for the RTX 3080 Ti/SUPER 20 GB. With this amount of shading power, you will want to have a complimentary memory buffer. According to Videocardz, the card will be landing in January 2021. Considering the fact that killer apps like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 already chomp away all the vRAM the 2080 Ti had to offer, 10 GB is going to feel tiny after a year or two. Next-gen consoles are already driving games with asset-streaming of large worlds, so vRAM is going to start becoming a lot more crucial than before. With AMD rocking a flagship card with 16GB of vRAM, NVIDIA had to reply with their own high vRAM card. According to Kopite, the RTX 3080 Ti will be based on the GA102 and will have specifications between an RTX 3080 and 3090. The exact chip nomenclature is GA102-250-A1 and will feature a 384 bits bus with GDDR6X memory. The bus-size means NVIDIA will either be using a 12 GB buffer or a 24 GB one. Considering Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is already bottlenecked by the 11 GB ram on the RTX 2080 Ti, it would be disappointing to see NVIDIA ship another powerful GPU with a small memory buffer. With RTX IO and asset streaming (Unreal Engine demo for next-generation consoles) becoming a thing in the next year or so, every bit of buffer will help in this paradigm shift. It is also unclear at this point how the revelation of this new GPU fits into the rumors about NVIDIA planning a move back to TSMC. It does however lend credence to the belief that the RTX 3000 series, at least for now, is staying on the Samsung 8nm process. The company initially faced less than ideal yields and supply constraints at launch but those are expected to significantly improve as we enter into the new year. This is going to be an insanely powerful card with 34 TFLOPs of power. That said, the current API, driver, and application infrastructure cannot fully take advantage of all this raw power. This is the actual reason why NVIDIA's insanely powerful cards don't scale linearly with TLFOPs. The company essentially made cards that are ahead of their time when compared to the surrounding software ecosystem. The hard evidence for this lies in the fact that the RTX 3000 series has been experiencing non-linear positive scaling when going down the stack. An RTX 3070 which has slightly more cores than the RTX 2080 Ti beats the former flagship - putting to rest any rumors or allegations about the CUDA cores in the Ampere series not being as strong as the Turing series or misleading blames at architecture design with lacking INT performance. AMD's big Navi series drops later today and it remains to be seen how the GPU market shapes up as we enter into the holiday season. NVIDIA's pricing is great but it needs to work with developers to fix the API and driver stacks to properly take advantage of the raw performance offered by the Ampere series (fine wine of the highest order) and in the meantime, AMD is going to churn out budget-friendly performance cards with what appears to be ample supply. They have also taken a lot of steps to make sure that the bot-scalping that happened with NVIDIA does not happen at their Radeon RX 6000 series launch.
